The crowd formed outside the stadium, many Harryan fans were there, it can be seen that they will be the vast majority, a country highly passionate about football, a wave of fans known as "Os Doidos" arrive and make an incredible celebration of the outside, which later would go inside the stadium, an incredible band, singing and demonstrating their passion, with flags, and the colors of their nation, they sing non-stop, and they took all kinds of items possible to intimidate the opponent , horns, masks, flares, they were planning to make "hell" inside the stadium, there were so many flares! They would go crazy in there!

Harry Islands open 0-1!
The Harry Islands Team scores the first goal!! A beautiful goal, Artur starts the move, he dribbles the winger and advances... And look at the cross! Goal!!! Nice header by Eduardo Ramos! He climbs as high as the others...

The 0-2

Marco Júnior passes to Hugo Núñez, Hugo starts a sprint down the right wing, he passes the ball to Matt, and... Matt Takes A Risk!! GOOAAAL! Matt kicks a cannonball towards the goal! He hits the left corner, from outside the area! Nice goal!

(OOC: I will wait for Adaikes to respond with 4 goals)

BBC OFFICIAL REPORT: Shepherd's Alliance Leader Killed in Drone Strike

By Political Correspondent Darshan Obamaj

Jakartington WB, West Barack - Great waves of applause were heard at the Pentagram and throughout the United States today as Minister of Defence Barack Armstrong announced the killing of Shepherd's Alliance head honcho Drissel Vankja.

Over the last few months, the Obaman Armed Forces have been engaged in a war against Drissel Vankja's terrorist organisation, which was mostly based in his backwater nation Dusspong. Dusspong had been almost completely annihilated by a nuclear blast a month into the war, but vestiges of the Shepherd's Alliance were still at large. Drissel Vankja and many of the remaining high-ranking members of his band of bombers had been hiding out in yurts on remote highlands near Dusspong, and had not launched any new offences in months. The Dusspong government, now all detained in West Barack and East Obama for their involvement in the Shepherd's Alliance, have agreed to cede what's left of their land to us, and the nation will now cease to exist officially.

The remaining yurts had gone unnoticed for a while, as those highlands can get very steep and hard to explore, even on missions to catch terrorists. Luckily, one day an Obaman intern discovered a couple of goats running around whilst looking at satellite footage. Knowing that a couple of shepherds must be nearby, drones were sent nearby to bomb the place to smithereens. It indeed worked, and the Shepherd's Alliance is now defunct (de facto). With that, Armstrong declared the war against Dusspong and the Shepherd's Alliance concluded.

The Shepherd's Alliance was formed by groups of radicalised shepherds in response to the Obaman Administration's sheep tariffs, which would had affected income for many of these shepherds. The Dusspong government felt insolent and aggressively campaigned against the decision, whilst enlisting the services of the Shepherd's Alliance behind closed doors. The Shepherd's Alliance gained particular notoriety for their "nice and cuddly" public image, such as their insistence on charitable fundraisers for shepherd's rights and their consistent denial of the atrocities they took part in, going so far as to declare that they "never heard of Rachel Bar-Rack and Natasha Obasha", radicalised Obaman members of their organisation who launched a sarin attack on the Pentagram itself.
Sonnel is the place.

Murphtannia 6-2 Galician Counties

Postby Murphtannia » Sat Dec 17, 2022 9:29 am

There was a soothing breeze in the office where Clayton Scott was sitting. There was only an hour now until the team made their way to their opening IAC fixture; and yet Scott was still thinking of what he could do to improve the team. This was going to be his first competitive game at the helm of Murphtannia, he managed an entirely new team and still felt the crushing weight of expectation. The collective pressure from a nation filled with football fanatics, wanting the team to continually improve and build off of previous performances. They weren’t going to be ready, he thought, for the fact that Murphtannia had needed to practically build a new team entirely.

Scott quickly stood up from his desk, nothing too fancy, a small desk with a picture of his family, himself winning an MPL in his playing days and a few other trinkets he liked to keep around. He then walked at a brisk pace away from the padded office chair he had been sitting in, one so comfortable he had been pondering the idea of taking it home with him, and arrived at the whiteboard. It was full of scribblings, tokens to represent the players and full of arrows and tactical instructions, to the point where it looked like the workings of a mad scientist. “We’re going to be ok” came the voice of Megan Burke, who he hadn’t realised was standing right behind him. “You’ve prepared them as best you can, so just relax”; Easy for you to say Scott thought to himself, Burke was always the relaxed one, seemingly never phased by anything, but she had a point. No last minute tactical changes would help now, all there was to do was to head down to the stadium and hope the team could implement the tactical style he wanted. So he took a deep breath, the large intake of O2 calming his nerves. He then turned around and walked with Burke to the coach waiting outside for them.

Later that day, 20 minutes into the game.

Well f*ck is the only thing Scott was thinking to himself as the second goal went in from Galician Counties. Scott considered themselves a team on par with Murphtannia, and he knew that if Murphtannia was going to make an unlikely run to the round of 24, it was a team they had to beat. He had to change something quickly otherwise Murphtannia’s tournament might already be over. It was time to make a call, and just hope that it was the right one.

He looked behind him to the bench, the players were nervous, their first competitive game together and they were already losing 2-0. He looked to Stevens, a player full of potential, young energetic, and a player with a full attacking mindset. Just the kind of player you need when 2-0 down, but it was still a risk. He is young and the pressure of thousands of Murphtannians would be on him, but it was a necessary risk. “Stevens you’re coming on, go get ready” he said, despite the protests of several members of his coaching staff, before doing a quick 180 and yelling to Woods ``You're coming off, get back here”. 5 minutes later the change had been made. Galicia were in on goal again, and as Scott saw the ball travel towards the top right of the net, he felt his heart sink. ‘It’s all over’ he thought, until he saw Lennox Fox diving in that same direction, just about reaching the ball and parrying it back into the box before Ellis cleared.

Scott then watched as the ball sailed in the air before Stevens coolly collected it with a world class first touch. He ran at the Galicia defenders, dodging and weaving with the ball at his feet, making it past 3 defenders before taking the shot. The shot itself sailed over the crossbar harmlessly but Scott was given that little bit of reassurance he needed that he’d made the right call. Another 10 minutes passed, 35th minute, if Murphtannia were going to make a comeback they needed to kick into gear, and kick into gear they did. Scott watched as Stevens would pick up the ball before making one touch passes, as the team worked their way around the Galician defenders. The ball eventually made its way to Belle Howard, who played a long ball into the box, however there was nobody there. Scott thought this was just a mistake and readied himself for the Galacian counter-attack, until heard the crowd surge, the decibels from the crowd cheering their team forward; seemingly energising him, as Steven Murphy got to the ball. Howard’s long ball hadn’t been a mistake, she just knew that Murphy was the only player on the field quick enough to get to it, including the Galician defenders, and get to it he did. He collected the ball just before it went out for a corner, crossing it into the box for a rapidly approaching Stevens who leaped into the air like a Salmon, and with a powerful header, rifling the ball straight into the back of the net. The crowd erupted, Stevens sprinted to collect the ball and restart the game, and there wasn’t a person more relieved in that stadium than Scott, his gamble had paid off, at least a little bit, and it was time to get back into this game.

Scott sat on the sidelines for the rest of the first half, as Murphtannia battered the ball against the Galaician keeper, time and time again but to no avail. Scott was happy as the referee signalled for the end of the first half. Sure they were 2-1 down but Galicia had barely had the ball for the latter stages of that first half, and he made sure the players knew they had been the better team. All he had to do was emphasise the need for better finishing. Of course though he had a plan beyond just a speech, if he needed better finishing and positional awareness, he had to look no further than the bench.

As a manager, you get used to the smell of a locker room. However Scott was focusing on the smell right now, more the attitude of the players in front of him. There was a buzz, a sense shared between all the players that the game wasn’t over, they still had more than a chance. Scott didn’t really even have to give a big team talk, Steven’s goal seemed to have done most of the work for him. “Right” Scott announced, quickly silencing the conversations filling the room, “You can all be proud of yourselves, most teams in the position we were in would’ve given up but not you, no this team showed the resilience I expect from one of my teams; but there is still work to be done. I want you to keep building off of the end of that first half, you keep that up and the goals will come. That said I will be making one change, Rio you’re coming off and River you’re coming on. Steve you’re going left wing, you all got that?”, he looked around the room as the players nodded in unison, except Teddy Wood. He was obviously demoralised after being substituted so early on in the game, and so Scott spent the rest of the half time team talk reassuring him that he didn’t play poorly, it’s just that the situation required a more attacking player. Meanwhile Burke got to work updating the Murphy twins on their new tactical roles.

10 minutes into the second half

Scott was quite relaxed, Murphtannia had continued to dominate possession and pepper the Galaician goal, he was getting more confident as time went on that Murphtannia would get back into this game. Then he watched as Stevens made another run through the midfield. Collecting the ball from Matthews, Aaron Stevens ran forward, using a feint to get past two midfielders before a through ball to Steven Murphy on the left side. He collected the ball with a brilliant first touch and just kept running, and then face to face with a defender, he played a ball through the legs of a defender before once again crossing the ball into the box. He hit the cross slightly too heavy however and it sailed over Stevens who was running into the box. However River was undeterred, sprinting towards where the ball would drop, she flicked it over the defender behind her, before turning and running past him, smashing the ball mid air, and volleying it into the back of the net. The collective sigh from the Galicia fans who had lost the lead met with the roar of the Murphtannians fans and players, as River sprinted and hugged her brother, before being swarmed by the other players. It was a solid 3 minutes before the game kicked off again. Galicia didn’t keep the ball long however, with Stevens instantly nicking it off one of their players and bursting forward before the goalkeeper saved his shot.

The game continued, until in the 60th minute, Howard got the ball off of Stevens, before lobbing the defender in front of her and side passing to River. Who, one on one with the keeper, calmly side footed the ball into the bottom left hand corner. Scott found himself deafened by the orchestra of the combined jubilation of thousands of Murphtannians, as River knee slid and smacked the corner flag, the entire team ran to celebrate with River, as Scott fund himself fist pumping the air in celebration before hugging Burke. Had you asked him after that first 20 minutes if Murphtannia would be 3-2 up he would’ve given a cold no, but here they were, clawing their way back from defeat. The game just kept getting better however.

It took only 2 minutes for another goal. River collected the ball from Murray after an outstanding run up the field. River then turned her defender and moved into the box, before side passing to her left and into the path of her brother, who side footed the ball into the back of the net to make it 4. He too ran to hug his sister, he knew who to thank for his goal. Then in the 70th minute, Scott simply sat down and enjoyed the show, as Murray once again made a brilliant run up the field, with a defender blocking her brilliant cross into the box for a Murphtannia corner. Once again Murray whipped a brilliant ball into the box, before River was able to escape her marker and, with a thunderous header, almost broke the net as she got her hat trick. Jumping into the crowd of cheering Murphtannians. Scott knew what this meant for her, many all season had been saying she had been overshadowed by her brother, and yet here she was, a hat trick and an assist off the bench on her first competitive start. This game had announced her to the footballing community, not just as the less talented sibling, but a rival for that position of Murphtannia’s best player. The game began to slow down after Eve Windsor was brought on, Scott knew the game was won at this point and thought it prudent to give another upcoming star more game time. Scott didn’t expect anymore goals, his team had already done brilliantly, and his tactical changes had worked better than he ever could’ve hoped, but as he watched Howard and Stevens make 5 first touch passes to each other, passing around the Galaician defenders with ease, before Stevens gave Murray an inch perfect pass for her to calmly rap around the keeper to make it 6-2, he just felt happy. There were no criticisms he could make of his team today, and as the final whistle went, he knew Murphtannia had a chance of making the round of 24, the performance today had showed him all he needed to see, but for now his team had played like no Murphtannia team has played before, they had outdone themselves and made the nation proud already, and he intended to tell them this as he strolled back to the locker room, whistling a tune to himself as he went.

Roster comments: First team fielded since the qualifiers of World Cup 81 all those years ago, so none of the familiar names are still playing anymore. But regardless of that it is a quality team with many players that are talented or experienced enough to carry this team to success. Under the guidance of Juven Roberto De Casio, brother of the "disappeared" Mauro De Casio, the team will be fielding itself with the expectations to carry a good name for the country in the sport of football, that millions love in Oscioru. Aside from that, effectiveness and getting some valuable game-time is the main goal of the team here.

Boot It!: A Start We Can Build From

Postby TJUN-ia » Sat Dec 17, 2022 3:37 pm

By Peter Davis

After another year off, it's finally time to get back to the sport that we love. TJUN-ia has had a few good months, hasn't it? What with the Jagaur Knights reclaiming the ECC and Michael Stefan grabbing a historic NSSCRA Cup Series crown, it has actually felt like TJUN-ian sport is in a good place right now...just in time for the Jaguars to come back and see what they can make of it. Last time we saw them, it was in the fucking WC knockouts...where just making it that far was deemed so much a success that everyone received a hero's welcome back in the International Community. Now we fly out across the multiverse for the 17th IAC, where many will be hoping to see their team build off the success of the recent past. David Seems is on his own again, his wife at home taking care of Amethyst, and more roster turnover sees Peter Ørberg with the Captain's Armband but right now, the goal for this IAC is simple - go as far as possible and keep up the momentum.

West Barack and East Obama will host our first 2 games with The Pentagram Underworld hosting our opening night against debutants Toluiwa, The Three Brothers managed by William Guntur and captained by Aras Candra. This team was clearly in a defensive set up, so we expected them to try and beat us on the counterattack and while Reihan Maulana Putra had the best of the chances, new starting GK Sputnik Brykilawa managed to hold firm to earn himself a clean sheet on debut. Our attacking options were certainly up for it as well, with our 3 goals being split among our new front 3 lineup - Malhrani al-Kalhrani (33'), Yomakaji Shimigatsu (51') and Jackson Smith-Scott (88'), the youngest in the starting 11 by far at 26. The Three Brothers certainly put up a good showing but in the end, we were simply too good in the end and we got our IAC off to the best possible start.

1-0 but we want more...but that may not be easy. Sure, our next opponent is only ranked #32, but they also turn out to be West Barack and East Obama - the co-hosts of this group. That means that we will be facing a hostile crowd on their home turf and having that home-field advantage cannot be underestimated at all. We need to escape this Lion's Den alive...but can we? GO JAGS!

The Start of Disappointment

After withdrawing from IAC 14, Toluiwa seems to be missing from international sporting event. The country absent from the possibility to enter in the next two editions until the country's football association, TVB decided to enter the 17th edition. And they are entering for real. The football fans are overjoyed with the news and hoping that their team can have a good result. However, they are questioning the reason behind the long decision of the football association to enter an international event.

Interviewed after accompanying the departure of the national team, Panji Wijayakusuma, TVB President stated that they want to build up the national team first. He said that the first decision was a hasty one. The interval time was use to make the preparation with intense training and team build up. They believe that the team is ready this time. That's why they enter the competition.

In the event, Toluiwa is drawn into Group 2. Together with Abhanfleft, West Barack and East Obama, New Portland Republic and lastly, TJUN-ia. But in their opening match against TJUN-ia, the team was slaughtered by 3-0. Facingthe highest ranked team in the group, Toluiwa seems to be had no chance. Despite having several chances in counterattacks but the team was lacking a finishing touch. "They are still nervous to play in a bigger stage, apparently," said William Guntur, Toluiwa national team manager. The team is currently seating 4th. And their next opponent is Abhanfleft. Another hard opponent for them. Guntur say that they will sti using the defensive tactics and hope that they can hold Abhanfleft as long as possible. But Guntur also realize that their opponent will be playing all out. This is their first match after all. They got bye in the first match day. While the fans back home always back up their team no matter how the result will be.

HUElavia 2-0 Eshialand
(Aveiro 64', Amezcua 87')
The Arena of Dreams, Quintessence of Dust

Golden Night!

HUElavia opens IAC 17 with a convincing victory over Eshialand with two spectacular goals!

Once again, HUElavia entered the opening matchday as the defending champion, looking to pick up where they left off. Their first opponent was their toughest in the group: Eshialand. The team that defeated HUElavia in the Round-of-16 in IAC 14 has become a familiar opponent in recent times, especially with Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos defeating them in IAC 16. This was a matchup with a brewing rivalry between the two, and Coach Aveiro did not pull any strings, putting up his best XI with the Home Uniform being worn. In a sold out crowd at The Arena of Dreams in QoD, the teams came out to a great cheer, with the anthems being sung with great enthusiasm and pride. The coin was tossed and the ball rolled to start the Title Defense campaign.

The opening half did not see many plays get converted for good shots. The back lines of HUElavia and Eshialand would make clinical blocks and tackles to prevent either team from taking good shots. On the rare occasion that someone would get through, there were easy blocks and saves coming from Casillas and Kolek respectively. The clearest shot for HUElavia was in the 23rd minute, when a pass my Amezcua went into the box and Nascimento took a shot before it hit the post and went out for a goal kick. For Eshialand, in the 29th minute, a cross by Carey went into the box where Carroll headed the ball leading to Casillas to stretch to get a hand to the ball, narrowly tipping it for a corner kick. At the half, the score was 0-0, and a game like this gave the feeling someone was bound to get the opening goal.

In the second half, HUElavia began to pressure more and more, looking to get that opening goal, despite some counter attacks from the Owls. In the 64th minute, where Aveiro was on the right wing, sending a pass to Navarro-Hamada, where he passed it to Amezcua on the left, before back to Bellerose-Freau, where she passed it to Aveiro, which he gave a blistering, low shot from distance to slip past the reach of Kolek to go into the goal, making it 1-0. The HUElavian crowd erupted, jumping and cheering to make the stadium rumble, while Aveiro was mobbed by his teammates for the goal. Coach Aveiro had a grin, applauding the fantastic goal from distance to open up the scoring. Eshialand began going more on the attack, now with Krupp in for Harran, where a pass from Carey reached Krupp who went one-on-one with Casillas to give a low shot but it narrowly went past the post for a goal kick. In the 87th minute, Duarte (in for Navarro-Hamada) was on the ball where she was looking for an opening, when she passed to her left with Amezcua on the ball, and the Eskadi-HUElavian moved a bit forward to give a blistering, curving shot past the diving reach of Kolek into the goal, making it 2-0. Once more, the crowd erupted in the surprise shot and jumped in joy to make the stadium rumble once more with Amezcua being mobbed for her fantastic goal. From there, HUElavia snuffed out any other chances from Eshialand, as they ended up holding out to win the match and take their first 3 points in the IAC.

After matchday 1, the other group game saw United Adaikes defeat newcomers and co-hosts Harry Islands 4-3 in a very entertaining matchup. As of Matchday 1, HUElavia leads Group 7 with 3 Points (1-0-0, +2 GD), followed by United Adaikes with 3 Points (1-0-0, +1 GD), Harry Islands in 3rd with 0 Points (0-0-1, -1 GD), and Eshialand in 4th with 0 Points (0-0-1, -2 GD). The next match will be against Alezian Union at Red Arena in Harry Islands, where a mix of the starters and backups will start the game, along with the Away Uniform being worn for the match. HUElavia hopes to maintain their foot on the pedal and give another memorable and convincing performance for the millions of HUElavians throughout the multiverse.

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

The Move that Creates Critics
Cakra Nusa News Agency

Ampenan - Cakranegara officially become part of Mengwi Agreement signatory after the President, Hambali, signed the agreement yesterday. The move was praise by the neighborhood countries especially Pemecutan. The agreement is believe to increase the economy of the country and opened up the country to more opportunities. However, things are not going well in Cakranegara soil.

Critics coming from the president own party and coalition. They cited that Hambali's move have break his own promise. Pemecutan is seen as the public enemy by Cakranegaran. The embargo, the taken Gili Anakan and the fact that Cakranegara can't have a military are all because of Pemecutan. And despite it is all have been resolved (except Gili Anakan status) but the public opinion is not getting better. And the move to sign Mengwi Agreement is seen as a betrayal. Because it looks like Cakranegara become friendly with Pemecutan.

Ministry of Economy and Finance, Rahma Arzani defend the move made by Hambali. She stated that Cakranegara economy is crumbled under the embargo. And being part of the agreement surely help the country to stay a float. Cakranegara would not be burden by huge and heavy tax if they become part of the agreement. With the fact that most of the signatories are Cakranegara trading partners, this surely increase their export capacity. The minimal to zero tax also help Cakranegaran to be involved in export-import trading. Thus will increase the players in the fields.

Selaparang MP, Ahmad Badawi asked why Hambali didn't push Gili Anakan issue while he was meeting with Pemecutanian Prime Minister. Gili Anakan status is still hanging without any clear solution. Ttoluiwan government who voiced about giving a neutral ground for both countries further meeting is also out of the view. Badawi said that Hambali missed a really important chance. The same critic is also address by political expert, Tomi Fadillah. He said that Hambali possibly have a low bargaining power that Pemecutan PM just dismissed him when the issue was being brought. However, forgetting the issue is also a bad idea, he added. Gili Anakan is like the pride of the country. Because it is the last piece of Cakranegara that is under other country's control.

Spokesperson to Ministry of Defense, Deny Indrayana said that lobbies are continue to be made to persuade Pemecutan to held a referendum of self determination in Gili Anakan. He believe that the people of Gili Anakan is remain loyal towards Cakranegara. He ask all sides to be patient because this issue is also a big issue in Pemecutan itself.

After Adaikes' disappointing comeback with 4 goals, and Harry Islands with 3 goals, 2 of which were scored by Matt through a kick outside the area, the team would take advantage of the greater time available to focus on Eshialand, and HUElavia, the fans they are already starting to buy their tickets for the away game, the fans of Harry Islands are always incredible, because even though they lost, the fans still tried to support the team, several messages were sent to the social networks of each of the players , well, the players would not have an easy life ahead, considering that they would have to beat Eshialand to at least be in a comfortable position. Players would travel to Quintessence of Dust to start training, they would focus mainly on improving defense, and for the next match, John intends to change the tactical formation of the team, some speculate that the team will play on the counterattack in a 4-4-2 compact, and defensive, the atmosphere in the changing rooms was still "calm", but a little more serious thanks to the defeat against Adaikes.

Independents Cup 17 [MD1 16 Dec]

Postby Eshialand » Sun Dec 18, 2022 1:39 pm

A Stumble Out the Gate
HUElavia 2 - 0 Eshialand

Whoops.

Another year, another 0-2 loss to HUElavia in the group stage. Starting with a loss wasn't ideal for anyone. Of course it wasn't. But, if there was anyone in the world to lose to, it was two-time defending champions and top-ranked HUElavia. This was a minor setback for an Owls squad that could definitely make another go at the playoffs.

The previous year's loss to los Amarillos was a hit to Eshian morale, one that led to a collapse at the end of the tournament. Something like that couldn't be allowed to happen this time around. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it, and this team took their best notes from history in order to stop themselves from tripping up.

So, what was going to be done to stop the demons of the past from catching up to them? Well, a bit of a reality check would be the start of it. This team saw the loss to HUElavia in IAC XVI as a failure to repeat IAC XIV, a sign that they were slipping. This was far from the case, and now they were able to see that they did the best they could, and despite the loss, they were still at peak performance. HUElavia was on another planet skill-wise, especially when compared to the rest of their competition, including their next opponents, the United Adaikes.

There was a bit of a mystery surrounding this match, as the Owls had no experience playing the Hawks national team, but hopes among the Eshian populace were high. It was almost certainly going to go better than the match against Saterun after the previous time Eshialand faced HUElavia, where the demoralizing loss to los Amarillos combined with ghosts of IAC XIII combined to leave the Owls with quite the lackluster finish to IAC XVI's group stage. This time, there was no sting from losing to HUElavia and no bad history against the following team. Hopefully, that would mean no galactic-scale choking.

However, only time would tell if the Owls would do well enough to carry their story into the knockouts and maybe even continue their streak of Round of 16 exits. Fans certainly wanted to see their team get back to the quarterfinals for the first time in three years, but as for Coach Morgan, he was gonna take this one match at a time.

"Even thinking about the knockout picture is a mistake right now. After one game, the only thing you should think about is the second game, and that's where my attention is focused. We have a bye on Matchday 4, and only then will I start thinking about how we can qualify for the playoffs. Until then, it's all about tomorrow, each and every day."

HUElavia - 2 (Aveiro 64', Amezcua 87')
Eshialand - 0

DISCLAIMER: Gaelic Gamers is an independents sports blogging website created by four cousins with a common liking and passion for sports of all kinds and is in no way or form affiliated with or organized by any official news organization in the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft. All statements and opinions posted here are our own and not anyone else's.

Gaelic Gamers
Presents...

The Football Fallacies
with The Man from Markovsky

LET'S BE REAL NOW, GUYS; WE'RE F****D

Hello and welcome to The Football Fallacies. Right, so unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past two years or so, you should probably know by now that Abanhfleft actually has a bit of luck when it comes to football. Oh, we’ve always had a reputation for always crying foul whenever something goes wrong for any of our national teams or even if something doesn’t go right by just the slightest and tiniest amount. But there have been times when Abanhfleft was actually successful in sports. Sure, it’s not all happened at the same time, but at least we’ve won some championships here and there. Most notable among those probably are the six trophies we’ve won in lacrosse (covered in some detail by Aisling Keane, also of Gaelic Gamers), championships in all three codes of rugby (as covered in much detail by Graham O’Doherty, the literal founder of Gaelic Gamers), and more recently, the International Baseball Slam (covered by a good friend of the website Ibrahim Ahmadinejad). But throughout all of that, Abanhfleft has had little to no luck at all when it comes to football. Yes, I am talking about the football which actually involves feet and balls (and not hands and eggs, that’s more the purview of Dara Keane of Gaelic Gamers). Most of the time, Abanhfleft goes out in just the group stage, and in the rare times that Abanhfleft does get out of the groups, the round of 16 (or the first round equivalent of other tournaments with larger knockout stages) is usually the furthest that we can get. Of course there have been times when Abanhfleft actually managed to go all the way to the final, but every time we always ended up falling just short of the final hurdle. It doesn’t matter if it’s the under-18 team, the under-21 team, the senior men’s and women’s team, or even the under-15 team (yes, there once was an Under-15 World Cup, and Abanhfleft made it all the way to the final of that tournament only to lose to Schottia on penalties); Abanhfleft has never won a football tournament before. Until last year, that is.

It is perhaps a sad fact of life that the Women's World Cup (now also known as the Jenna Raven Cup for reasons similar to why the Under-21 World Cup is now known as the Di Bradini Cup) is not as well regarded as its counterpart, known simply as the World Cup. Now, the fact that one tournament is known as just the World Cup while the other is explicitly the Women's World Cup would seem to imply that the other more well known World Cup is exclusively for men. I can tell you all right now that that assumption is complete and utter wank. I can personally tell you all that I've seen women competing in the main World Cup, most of the time alongside their male counterparts, but some teams opt to send teams comprised solely of females. Abanhfleft are one such country that sends all-female teams to the main World Cup, a duty which they've been rotating with the men's team on a biennial basis since World Cup 72. Abanhfleft has been sending women to the main World Cup for literally decades already, and from what I've heard about other countries, they've been doing it for centuries now! All this means is that a World Cup specifically and explicitly for females is practically moot. Why bother creating a tournament intended only for women when they can take part and even hold their own in the main World Cup, which has no restrictions on the gender or even the species of the competitors? Apparently there were actually some good reasons because as of time of writing, the multiverse has had sixteen Women's World Cups in its history! Sixteen! Something tells me that most of the reasons why we've had sixteen Women's World Cups look like rectangular pieces of cloth-like paper or even plastic with the faces of popular or prominent historical figures painted on them that can be used to represent an exchange of goods or services between people. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case.

The point that I'm trying to make here is that, after decades of trial and error, hardship and failure, constant and repeated failures, Abanhfleft has finally managed to win a football tournament. The road to the final of the 16th Women's World Cup (aka the 3rd Jenna Raven Cup) was a long and bumpy one for our Lady Revolutionaries, fraught with constant dangers to the successful execution of their one primary objective. Abanhfleft survived the group stage relatively easily, though not without taking a few knocks of their own. The Empresses of the Jovannic proved to be our toughest opponent in this tournament, and the fact that our lasses had to face those girls three times in the same tournament is just sheer bloody craziness. We drew against the Empresses in our first meeting with them in the JRC, and then they beat us on the final matchday of the group stage to cement their hold on first place. Our Lady Revolutionaries then had to navigate a gauntlet of decent and respectable sides in the knockout stage before they could even allow themselves to entertain thoughts of making it to the final. They won narrowly against Lisander and moved past hosts Baker Park only after one of the ugliest penalty shootouts I've ever seen my entire life, and their reward for advancing to the semifinals is yet another game against the Jovannic. Seriously, the gals must have been so sick of seeing those orange kits yet again that I was surprised that none of them had tried tearing off the orange parts of their own uniforms (not that there was much of it to begin with). And the Jovannic came very close to putting an end to our hopes of finally lifting some silverware in the world of football, but our lasses powered through on the basis of pure sheer will.

But it wasn't enough that we had to beat the Jovannic at the third time of asking in this Women's World Cup. In the final, we had to beat a team that has been haunting my nightmares and living rent free in my head thanks to it having taken up a place of prominence on my shit list. That team is of course HUElavia. If you're a newcomer to my section of the website then you may not know that HUElavia has had a history of playing spoilsport to Abanhfleft in, well, sport. Many times have HUElavia and Abanhfleft met in the round of 16 of competitions, and all of those times HUElavia have emerged triumphant. Not once have the Revolutionaries, male or female, in football or whichever other sport you could think of, managed to beat Los Amarillos or Las Amarillas. It's gotten to the point where my hatred of all things HUElavian is only equaled by my hatred for all things Nepharan, Brenecian, Vanorian, or Pasargan. All those teams have beaten Abanhfleft so many times that hatred for them has become a nationally engraved thing. Every single Fleftic is now taught to hate Nephara, Brenecia, Valanora, Pasarga, and HUElavia since birth; that's how much those countries have pissed us off as an entire nation. But you want to know what the really funny thing is? Four out of these five nations don't even know that we have declared them our rivals. Nephara and Pasarga have bigger fish to fry, and to them, we are just minnows unworthy even of contempt. But HUElavia are different. They're on the same level as us on the footballing food chain, and therefore they know and understand how much we don't like them. Or at least I would like to think that that is the case. Well, if they didn't know it before, let's just say that they do now.

The final game of the 16th Women's World Cup (aka the 3rd Jenna Raven Cup) was an intense all-out affair between Abanhfleft and HUElavia. Many fouls were had, along with many goals. Five, to be exact, with three going to the Lady Revolutionaries and two to the team in yellow. Kate Bernanos, manager of the women's team at the time, earned herself a massive heal of help and goodwill when she led the Lady Revolutionaries to victory over one of the national enemies and winning a trophy in the process. However, all of that goodwill got used up during the qualifiers for the 92nd World Cup, which is the one that the women were scheduled to take part in. After a poor qualifying, Kate Bernanos and the SFA (Samahang Futbol ng Abanhfleft mutually agreed to part ways with each other. There was only so much failure and bottling that the fanbase could accept before they turned on the coach who literally brought them their first trophy and forced her out. So who's in charge now of this team? Well, it's none other than Old Reliable himself, Heinrich Wurzmann. There was a time when having Wurzmann in your dugout was actually a good thing. However, this was before he was exposed by the Independent Associations Championship. Nowadays, Wurzmann is more of a contingency plan, a backup plan, a caretaker. Wurzmann is no longer expected to make Abanhfleft a football powerhouse. Instead, he is merely to take charge of things until another manager becomes available. Yeah, that really fills you with confidence about our chances, don't it?

Narratio Belnegensis Angustiae
Prima Pars

It was even-tide, and the sun hung low in the western sky, its last feeble rays painting the apartments of Landgraf Hartwig von Belnegau in shades of red and orange.

The day's footballing had finished, and Hartwig and his retainers had retreated from the constant noise of the modern world he had stepped into. Even now, he could hear the muted roar of the impossible vehicles these people rode in at speeds no horse could match. They reverberated through the marvelously thin glazing of the windows, disturbing his thoughts and troubling his sleep. It was never truly dark in these places either, as lights set within globes of glass burned at all hours of the night, banishing the stars from the sky and glaring through the windows unless the drapes were tightly drawn. He wondered that anyone could live thus, and could perhaps forgive somewhat the sluggishness of his knights on the field earlier in the afternoon.

The team had long since taken to the great hall of this guest house, which their hosts called by the strange name of "Conference Room 3." There they would be feasted and the sorrows of the day drowned in ale. But for the Landgraf, there was no rest and no relaxation yet. Messengers from home had awaited him upon his arrival from the match, and he had put them off as long as he could, but must now face what promised to be dour news. Taking his seat, he waved to his chamberlain, Gustaf, to admit the first messenger. The man bowed perfunctorily before speaking quickly.

"My lord, my name is Harding, and I am sent by Ritter Peter Grunfeld, Castellan of Spitzstein and servant of Freiherr Heinz von Heidingen. Ritter Peter holds Spitzstein on behalf of the young Freiherr until his return from the Cup of Independents, and sends urgent words. I am bidden to tell your lordship that bands of peasants in Heidingen have returned to the sin of their forefathers and have most wretchedly betrayed their duty both to your lordship and to Almighty God. They have taken or slain the servants of your lordship and those of the his majesty the Emperor, and even dared to spill the blood of consecrated priests. Their leader is one that they call Algirdas, and he preaches a most vile paganism, urging the people to turn from the Holy Church to worship the trees and beasts of the forest. He is said to be a sorcerer of great power, and in league with multitude demons and imbued with the spirit of the Evil One himself. Ritter Peter begs you return at once from these foreign lands to Belnegau, where your wisdom and strength are sorely needed, or if you might not come yourself, to dispatch this messenger to your own castellan at Ziegelstein with your command to raise the soldiery and march south to aid him against this deadly poison that has infected the people of Heidingen."

"I thank you for bringing this message faithfully, goodman Harding, though it does not gladden my heart. I must think on your words for a time, and I bid you retire to Conference Room 3 to refresh yourself with food and drink while I consider my response."

As Harding bowed again and retreated, the second emissary stepped forward.

"My Lord Hartwig, I thank you greatly for admitting me to your hall in this strange land. I am Berthold Lanza, and I have the honor to be the chosen emissary of the mercantile House of Lanza in Mühlenfurt. My Uncle, Burgermeister Herbord Lanza sends his heartfelt greetings and wishes of good fortune for you and your knights on this expedition. Master Herbord also bids me accompany your lordship, if that is your will also, in these lands, and, if some little time may be found for such things, to speak a little with your lordship or some chosen representative about the charter between Mühlenfurt and Ziegelstein, which your lordship is well aware must soon be renewed. The House of Lanza and the other families of the Mühlenfurt council are proud to shoulder the burden of filling the coffers of Belnegau, and shall continue in that duty; let none doubt it. Yet in such matters it is good and fitting to be thorough, and to ensure continued friendship between Mühlenfurt and Ziegelstein by working closely together with one another. Toward this end I am sent, and will enter into your lordship's service for a time so that our houses might be drawn ever closer in affection and understanding."

Hartwig suppressed a deep sigh. The merchants of the Great Guild of Mühlenfurt had been restive for some time, using the occasion of the Independents Cup and the townspeople's unrest and disquiet over the restriction of football to knights to make efforts to reduce the tax they paid and increase their privileges. While Hartwig's land holdings made him without doubt the wealthiest man in Belnegau, none could match the Great Guild, membership in which was restricted to the leaders of the various merchant families of the town, for sheer quantity of coin. Hartwig had often been constrained to borrow money from the Great Guild at need, and they were ever keen to remind him of the fact. This young man was a reminder from Herbord Lanza that the Great Guild would not easily ratify the same charter, and should Hartwig tire or waver in his negotiations, they would take from him hand over fist. Such was ever they way with merchants.

"I welcome you, young burger Berthold. It may indeed prove that we shall find some small time to discuss matters between Mühlenfurt and Ziegelstein, but at the least you shall have the opportunity which few of your years enjoy to see the worlds far beyond Belnegau and the Empire, beyond even England, Bergen, and Novgorod where your Hanseatic ships sail, and to learn of the ways of people you have never known, and thus grow in wisdom and experience. You shall join me in my loge for the matches, so that we may speak and become well acquainted. But for now leave us, Gustaf will summon you in the morning."

After Britonisea's progress in international football was put on hold at the most recent World Cup, the team are back with a stronger team - with a lot of new additions that will see them represent their country for the first time ever. The goal at the Independents Cup 17 is to hopefully make it out of the Group Stage which is something Britonisea hasn't done often at this event, but it would give the Britonish boys just the kick they need to have belief once again that they could one day make the World Cup.

The competition will be broadcast on C4 as part of the agreement with the Britonish Television Board.

While Britonisea doesn't have the largest football fandom (though can still fill a large stadium for big events), there are small groups of supportive fans - especially from the main football clubs in Britonisea (Alshakn, Norwaege, Aysean, Luton) who will make the effort to travel around the multiverse to support their nation. Usually, the Britons are quite calm when watching football, but can become loud and rowdy especially when they're leading/unfair judgement against their players.

Day 1 of the Forrester Trial

Postby Hopal » Sun Dec 18, 2022 4:35 pm

Day 1

Proceedings against former Minister of Agriculture Henry Forrester have finally gotten underway after months of delays. Forrester was arrested in February 2021, a month after being unselected from cabinet by then-Prime Minister John Stophoe.

Allegations of corruption from both during his time as Minister of Agriculture and before that as the Chief Executive Officer of Sunset Wood had emerged just after the 4th Hopalian Parliamentary Election, where Forrester won re-election to his seat. Forrester had been an unpopular figure during his time as Agriculture Minister, he had gained vast wealth and influence during as CEO of Sunset Wood, as it became one of the richest companies in Hopal. Even after Hopal implemented a socialized economy, Forrester and Sunset Wood remained in place, as they became a government-subsidized company and effectively gained a monopoly over the logging industry in Hopal. Forrester became a vilified figure to many, as he amassed great wealth in a capitalist sort of way, and his company destroyed much of the Hopalian environment. Forrester ran for Parliament in the 3rd Hopalian Parliamentary Election in September 2020, winning his seat and being appointed Minister of Agriculture under the First Cabinet of then-Prime Minister John Stophoe. This appointment was widely criticized, as Forrester was already a controversial character and didn't have any experience in agriculture. It was an appointment that baffled many. But it is alleged that his rise to wealth and power was fueled by corruption and that he held on to that wealth and power by the same means, these are allegations that the prosecution will attempt to prove, and the defence will attempt to disprove.

Proceedings began today at the Hopalian Supreme Court Building in Hopton, as this case was deemed a 'case of national importance' and it was decided would be presided over by the Justices of the Supreme Court, Alexander Ponsicowski, Laura Ginoski, and Chief Justice Harrison Reid. The activities of the court today would be mostly procedural though, dividing the charges into different trials finding out what in Hopalian legal terms is called the "Order of Trials". But this had all been agreed to beforehand, as the leading lawyers for both sides: for the prosecution Deputy Attorney General Alexander Erhale and for the defence Marta Shelly, had developed this in the months between Forrester's arrest and today's proceedings. This is an unprecedented trial, which is why it took so long to go trial, no one knew how to handle the case of a former Cabinet Minister, and it took months to get everything in place.

It was also agreed today that the first trial, on the charges of racketeering should take place at the location where it was alleged to happen, near the town of Marshall, in the Hopalian forest region to the east of Hopton.

Tomorrow, the Court will reconvene in the District of the Forests Area Courthouse in the township of Wayne near Marshall. On the agenda for the Court tomorrow is the selection of a jury.

Harry Islands team comes out for training!

The Harryan National Football Team left just now to start training, the crowd crowded in front of the hotel where the team was staying, and always, singing and supporting the team, what most attracted the attention of the foreign press was undoubtedly a banner written "Football is our religion". Training has already started, but unfortunately the training was not open to the press or fans.

The lineup for the next game has been confirmed, the fans in particular, did not agree with just one change, in the goal, Lauro Hernández was taken out of the goal, the coach must have done this because of the 4 goals in the last game, and also to give chances for more promising goalkeepers like Frederich Mendez.
