APPLICATION FOR RP
Nation Name: Vanguard Detachment Kx-5462, Cult of the Stellar Vanguard; Designation "Vonyi"
Form: Lacks a general codified pretitle. In principle, an esoteric socialist republic; in practice, a quasi-feudal mess of countless systems all paying lip-service to the core worlds. Will functionally operate in this RP under the aforementioned Vanguard Detachment Kx-5462 (VD-Kx-5462), comprising the united armed forces of the five hundred and sixty-third star-province's ninety-eighth, ninety-ninth, one hundredth, one hundred and first, one hundred and second, and one hundred and third star-sectors.
Leader: In the case of the present detachment, it's Admiral Henrietta Kordovskaya.
Leader Factbook: N/A
Tech Level: FT.
Fantasy Level (None, Low, High, etc.): None.
Population Size: The entire Vanguard Cult has a population of countless trillions, beyond any reasonable quantification. The "Astan United Autonomous Zone" (a semi-independent contingent of Vanguard space which operates in the name of its interests but functionally acts as an independent govt.), the unified polity overseeing VD-Kx-5462, has a combined population of ~112 billion.
Military Size: Will be deploying ~950,000 naval personnel, and ~1.2 million ground personnel. ~2,000,000 in reserve in total.
The logistics behind maintaining such a deployment will be difficult for the AUAZ. The Admiral will need to be very careful with her resources. A ship lost is not a ship that's being replaced any time soon.
Main Factbook URL: There is none, minus: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=gre ... ok/id=main but it doesn't have much; I'll elaborate for exposition's sake.
Aeons ago, further back than mortal man may count...
Its world domination finished a revolution which had been building since 1964 A.A., by which the "People's Federation" itself was established. We know that the new "Cult of the Vanguard" proclaimed in the year 92 N.W.E. ("New World Era", the term still used by contemporary Vanguardist society that marks the total cycles of the Cradle-World experienced since the nuclear cataclysm which heralded our new age) obtained total control over the resources and energy of their star-system, and, over many thousands of years, obtained faster-than-light travel and established a grand, ever-proliferating domain which began to grow of its own accord. In the wake of such sheer distances, even the speeds of faster-than-light travel were incapable of crossing the vast distances involved - journeying from one end of today's Vanguard territory to the opposite would take around a century with the most developed prototype F.T.L. drives we have yet even conceived - and thus considerable authority had to be yielded to local governors. While the core worlds, a few hundred star-systems included, experience frankly immense bounty and prosperity, the vast amount of Vanguard space is managed by those who operate under the relative security of the vast yet similarly-decentralised Vanguard fleets, and yet govern nigh-independently. The price of this independence is taxation in the form of drafted manpower - usually cryogenically frozen for the long journey to the core worlds as to preserve their youth and thus fighting-capabilities - and raw resource yields as a percentage of that harvested. The rest is invested back into the local system or lines the pockets of local leaders who are little more than warlords. Disobedience to the central government's lines will still see you removed from your governorship -- forcefully, if necessary.
In the wake of such immense localisation, we see multiple proto-states take form in Vanguard space. We concern ourselves at present with the Astan United Autonomous Zone, a declared alliance of six local Star-Governors (each ruling a star-sector, which can range between 20 and 100 systems) consecrated in the Astan System on its capital planet of Unity. While not recognised by the central government (in fact, their size compared to the Cult at large is nigh-negligible), their sheer economic and military might means they wield considerable authority and thus independence, while nevertheless paying their (slightly-reduced) dues sent back to the Core Worlds. They signify a trend of proto-states joining together in the wake of increased technological development and thereby political centralisation as relative distances become smaller and smaller. Many fear the collapse of the Cult may be looming, or an otherwise intense quantity of violence shall erupt as either these statelets declare independence, or the Cult aims to assert its central control over more and more regions in the wake of continued technological development.
But in the AUAZ, things are calm. Life is, almost, tolerable. A stellar democracy has been forged in its development, the autocracy of the central systems having little bearing on the freedoms of the local population. Despite this, a widening class divide is leading to tumult at home. Planetary elites grow fat off of their new autonomy, and their less-assailable position in the wake of the new alliance means they have relative protection from the central government intervening in their abuses. Despite this, however, progress is developing slowly, as this small beacon of interstellar liberty fosters the candle of republicanism in a galaxy so tainted by war and suffering. Already, in the year 11,421 N.W.E., thirty years after the AUAZ's founding, the quality of life has gradually risen -- though alongside this, corruption and profiteering grows rampant in the deep recesses of the state's internal workings. The newly-formed VD-Kx-5462, representing in military terms the interests of the peripheral systems, form the lone shield by which the flame is guarded.
In the wake of Dracha's expansionism, the wider Cult is complacent. But now the people of Astan and beyond have a way of life worth defending, they have begun arming themselves and preparing for war. The Cult will not be sundered by outside forces -- and even if the central parasites will not understand that, it must know that the people of the periphery have a home. And that's a home they'll fight to keep.

NAME: Henrietta Kordovskaya
ROLE: First Admiral of VD-Kx-5462; Effective Commander-in-Chief of the Astan United Armed Forces
DESCRIPTION: Short, skinny, not conventionally attractive. Long black hair, thin face, and brown eyes. Plain-looking. Face weathered by age. Usually wears admiral's uniform.
IMAGE (Optional): N/A
FACTBOOK (If Present): N/A
BIO (If no factbook, 1+ paragraphs): Henrietta Yausar Kordovskaya is the third person to bear the title of "First Admiral" of the entire VD-Kx-5462 detachment, at age 52. Born in the AUAZ's beating heart of Astan, she watched as the union emerged and became a vocal proponent of it. Her family was a military one, and thereby she immediately enrolled in the Fleet Academy and graduated with flying colours. An adept commander, she proved herself in the Battle of Danakai, when her fleet fought off the much larger Kayev Detachment under Governor Viktor Kayev of the neighbouring Yunoshichi system, attempting to invade the AUAZ, claiming that its formation was a violation of Vanguard Law. Kayev died in the conflict, and the nominal regional authority for the entire star-province would proceed to vindicate Kordovskaya's actions and award her with the Order of Vanguardist Merit and Bravery, stating that nothing about the AUAZ's formation violated any Law laid out by the Central Systems. Despite this, however, she is still relatively unproven for her tastes, and was a vocal proponent of intervening against Dracha. Ambitious, bloody-minded, and fiercely independent, she nevertheless is cunning and has very nuanced warmaking strategy. Despite this, many wonder if, with Dracha, the admiral is biting off more than she can chew.
NAME: Wilhelm Mayer
ROLE: Presiding Minister of the AUAZ; Governor of Astan.
DESCRIPTION: Tall, "bulky", 67 years old. Balding with grey hair. Stern face, has aged rather well and is considered relatively handsome for his age.
IMAGE (Optional): N/A
FACTBOOK (If Present): N/A
BIO (If no factbook, 1+ paragraphs): Wilhelm Mayer is not a particularly remarkable person. This is, for the AUAZ, a good thing. As its leader, he brings stability, moderately-minded governance, and generally has the wide support of the population, having been elected as President three years ago. He was born in the Danakai system, and served as the system governor during the Battle of Danakai, during which he developed an admiration for Henrietta's management of the battle, hailing her as the "Saviour of the Zone". They became friends shortly afterwards, and his election to the Astani governorship (thus occupying the position of "Presiding Minister") has seen more funding go towards her military, considering a "military-first" policy to be the most apt application of resources considering the tumultuous atmosphere in the Star-Province following the Battle of Danakai. Personally authorising the intervention against Dracha, he has been considered "the Periphery's Foremost Guardian" by many of his fellow governors within and without the AUAZ.
