The scenario is set for the April 2nd General Elections in Huayramarca, this has happened after a quite hectic day of Primaries that we had across the nation and even some other points in the Multiverse due to the support provided by mail voting and the Postal Service of Huayramarca, who performed efficiently in order to send the ballots to the Supreme Elections Council for its counting.
High turnout was reported since early hours of the morning, mostly by elder people who wanted to perform their civic duties in a not-so-hostile environment in terms of weather, this to prevent fainting due to dehydration as Huayramarca is, currently, experiencing one of the strongest heatwaves of the last decade. With some temperatures rising to 40 degrees Celsius in the Jungle and 45°C in Guayaquil. In order to prevent any kind of sufferings to the people in queues, the Huayramarcan Red Cross was set in every voting centre in order to provide first aid for those who were in need of it.
The voting process started with some accidents in certain places, such as a stampede in Tayabamba as people tried to enter by brute force while the Election Officials weren’t finished preparing the ballot stations. At least three people were injured with broken ribs due to that situation. Aside from those incidents, people remained civil during a great part of the day across the Plurinational Republic, aside from some sparse incidents that only appeared as unconfirmed through Social Media.
An environment that was heated since the first minutes was the political one, as presidential nominees were exchanging arguments through Twii.tur during the first two hours of the election, especially Ricardo Flores (Conservative) and Cristina Perlaza (Communist). This exchange occurred after Flores called people to “stop savage acts” and Perlaza asked for “respect to those people, who only need education that the Conservatives doesn’t consider.” This also caused arguments among netizens as they tried to defend the positions of their preferred candidates, in some cases, included some death threats such as the one made by @JusticieroSelva who did a photo montage of Perlaza being pointed by a gun on her head.
In regards of this happening the Communist Party released a communiqué through their social media, the core of the message included some expressions such as “We deeply condemn hostile attitudes that doesn’t contribute in anything towards a real and constructive social dialogue for the betterment of Huayramarca.” They finished their post by saying that they “reserve the right to exert any legal action towards said user, as hate messages should be punished with the rigour of law.”
The eight nominees did public appearances throughout the day in order to address the people and motivate them to take part of the electoral process. The first candidate to do so was William Mamani-Hastings (Conservative) and then Martha Mamani (Ñucanchi Ñan), all of the candidates addressed their main points of view in order to give some refreshment to their considerations to the voters, so their decision could be informed enough. Most of the nominees voted before noon, including a joint activity and press conference made by the Communist Party candidates on Puerto San Carlos principal school, they both featured the importance of planning and continuous improvement for Huayramarca in organisational and economical terms.
As the voting was drawing to a close, an unfortunate accident happened between a journalist and Armando Jamarara (Popular Party), as Jamarara apparently considered himself “offended” after being asked about “his populist agenda”, the candidate threw an apple at the journalists face and ran away towards his car, in a rage attack, the journalist ran behind the candidate and injured his nose by throwing at him a stiletto. Adriana Ramos, the offended journalist, was accompanied by colleagues to the nearest National Police delegation in order to report the happenings, she declared in a press conference that “offense was taken, as required, to take this process into the 1st Circuit of the Penal Court of Huayramarca.
After the incidents, Jamarara took some time to provide an official response, as he dodged media who was seeking for an answer in regards of his reaction. Jamarara released a statement in Twii.tur where he mentioned that “Being called a populist by a journalist was an all time low for the profession” he also urged the Journalists Association of Huayramarca to “take further action in order to improve the standards of a devaluated profession such as journalism.” Netizens and some candidates had strong reactions towards the declarations made by Jamarara.
Ricardo Flores, the Conservative nominee, declared that “injustified attacks shouldn’t be tolerated towards anybody, as people has to enshrine the responsibilities that freedom of expression imply for any individual.” Also Martha Mamani expressed her “utmost shock and dismay” towards the attitude of Jamarara, also added that she “declares in solidarity and sorority with Adriana Ramos” as she asked the authorities to open up a judicial investigation towards the aggression of the journalist.
Aside from that, the event was held with a deep sense of responsibility and maturity by the people, considering that our society is still healing the wounds of a long period without democracy and respect to the right of decision that we, as citizens of the Plurinational Republic, have enshrined in the Constitution. People was asked about their opinions in the process, and we share wit you five of those:
Christian del Cura Sacristán, 28 y/o; Tahuamanu, Madre de Dios: “The process has been done in quite an improvised fashion, there’s a lot of improvement opportunities for this. The officials need more preparation, as they were lacking certain organisational knowledge in the officials’ table, even they didn’t know how to use the indelible ink. For sure, this is a great sparring for them for the upcoming Generals.”
Digna Marciana Huamán, 75 y/o; Satipo, Junín: “To be fair, I’m quite disappointed on how unorganised have been the liaisons with us, old people. They haven’t given us preferential choice despite the SEC has informed that we had that privilege due to the heat wave, see, I’m drinking lots of water and I’m not sure if I’ll need to go to the bathroom, this would imply I’d lose my position in the queue.”
Bryan Marco Gol, 19 y/o; Sopocachi, Metropolitan District: “No issues for me during the voting process, has been efficient as I only needed five minutes to go in, sign-up and then going to the ballot station to deposit my vote. What I would suggest is that SEC must ensure that old people are given priority in the queues, they need it.”
Rufina Oscátegui, 45 y/o; Tulcán, Carchi: “The candidates aren’t the best, that’s in my opinion, Huayramarca deserves meritocracy through the election of candidates with enough academic background, proven capacity to manage a large institution such as a government or an important corporative entity. We don’t need anymore those people from the lumpenproletariat.”
Shamir Saritama, 32 y/o; Puerto San Carlos, San Carlos Archipelago: “There’s only one option for us in order to have a bright and collective future, that’s the Communist Party. They have sent some liaisons here in order to indicate us where we have to vote and even gave us some water or cookies in order to make the stay a bit pleasant, as the heat is really strong. The SEC should be ashamed of their performance as an institution, which has been mediocre to say the least.”
With mixed impressions, the day went, according to Juliana Márquez, head of the SEC as “flawless”, she also added: “People gave us a lesson on how to conduct, with maturity, a process that they are only getting used by after years of tyranny and oppression.” According to Márquez, the security program established solely for the even was “successful” as it “avoided further incidents or even troubles” that may have “caused dismay or even fear of the people to vote”. Having those facts contrasted with the reports of aggressions, there’s still need to perform some corrections in order to ensure something close to the ideal scenario made by Márquez.
David Carranza, tenant of the National Police has said that he already has a report on the happenings of the elections, this in order to emphasise improvement points in terms of security for Day-D in April 2nd: “About the incidents occurred in Cundinamarca and Parcoy, we already took notes in those regards, we will make sure to prepare our officers to prevent or dissuade that kind of risky activities. We need peace to achieve democracy.”
The final results of the electoral process were given at around 21:35, this after a fast count and then an upload to the system that the SEC had already prepared for data storage and publication:
Overall party count: Ñucanchi Ñan 23%, Conservative Party 22%, Communist Party of Huayramarca 22%, Christian Values Party 20% and the Popular Party with 13%.
For candidates we have: Martha Mamani with 96% of Ñucanchi Ñan marks; in Conservative Party we have Ricardo Flores with 48% and William Mamani-Hastings with 45%; for the Communist Party of Huayramarca there’s Diego Villacís with 33% and Cristina Perlaza with 22%; the Christian Values Party with Salma Machado obtaining 54% of votes and David Santos a 45%. Finally, for the Popular Party, Armando Jamarara has obtained 87% of the marks of his party. The remainder percentages in party lists belongs to the category of null votes (blank, invalidated).
After the results, we listened to some speeches made by the elected candidates:
Martha Mamani (Ñucanchi Ñan): “People has spoken, they are supporting the Citizens Revolution of Huayramarca by endorsing me and my staff. We are ready to make enough proposals to provide a better future to Huayramarca such as the incorporation of the nation into AORTA and more Anaian institutions, including our suggestion to create OAGHHE (Organisation of Anaian Groups of Hotels and Hostel Entities), in order to create an institution to provide memberships between approved hotels that match with certain standards. We want to make Huayramarca a top tourist destination and the premises should stand for said commitment.”
Ricardo Flores: “Huayramarca is getting rapidly tired about the incompetence of this government, people is frustrated and immigrating to Québec in flocks, we need to act as soon as possible in order to avoid a brain drain of dramatic dimensions. Bolstering the economy through the exploitation of our resources, solid financial management and wealth multiplication for every one of us. Conservative pride, Huayramarca wide!”
Cristina Perlaza: “Collectives are the way out of poverty and unemployment, if we are disciplined enough to organise ourselves and join efforts in order to plan and build better foundations for our future, we might stand a chance. These efforts involve cooperation with our Anaian neighbours, as we will learn from their experiences in order to make Huayramarca an example of communal organisation and resistance.”
Salma Machado: “With our faith put in God we want to announce our brothers that we, as the Christian Values Alliance, want to respect the motherland, the gift that God gave us and we must take care of it. Tourism, agriculture and Anaian integration will be, for sure, an important matter that we will try to get solved as fast as possible in order to keep Huayramarca in a path that’s supported by Him.”
Armando Jamarara: “We consider that we need to purge out the politics of this nation, crocked press, candidates and people who are heavily disconnected with John Doe, the common citizen. We need to listen and empower them in order to fulfill their needs and dreams, remember that we have only one Huayramarca and we have to build it together, no matter our views and actions.”
The next General Election, scheduled for April 2nd, will feature a more structured system of voting, aiming to be local and accessible for everybody without risking those who aren’t able enough to depend on themselves. The Huayramarcan National Police has promised to ensure a safe environment in order to guarantee that voting will be a family-friendly process for those who want to fulfill their civic duty.
Now with the ground set, the SEC has established a date for the first televised debate in Radio Televisión Huayramarca 1 in two weeks. The topics to be debated will feature: Economy, employment, technological advancement and Anaian integration under a 1 minute protected for the argumentation period and thirty seconds for rebuttals or questions towards opposing candidates.
