Bandarito blast kills 4, FISCAR suspends racing activity indefinitely

BANDARITO - A powerful blast at one of the stands of the Petrofilindo Superspeedway during one of the Filindostan Stock Car Racing (FISCAR) series races kills four and left five people wounded, police reports say.

Among the killed are some crew members of Team Agamata, including WGP3.Filindostan driver Nestor Punto. The ongoing race at the Petrofilindo Superspeedway was halted immediately due to the security lapse. FISCAR officials called off the event and will suspend the series until further notice. They say that it might take at least one week to decide whether the race at Petrofilindo Superspeedwat would be replaced by a new event at the same track, go to a different track, or curtail the season prematurely.

Marinel Agamata, team owner of Team Agamata, has yet to release an official statement on the losses. Hours after the blast, Sangtian separatists have taken responsibility of the attacks, saying that it is just the start of their takeover of the nation. Despite the outbreak of the civil unrest in the nation's southern island in Kabunuklan, the organizers at Yogyakulta are still committed with holding the NSSCRA round at the Yoggy Oval with heightened security to avoid further occurrences of mishaps like these.

A phone call was received by Kissan Motorsport's Tsutomu Sugiyama from the Rusty Motorsport.

"Hi Sugiyama-san. Rusty Ibuna here, owner of Rusty Motorsport. It seems that the recent events in Bandarito have caused the FISCAR races to be delayed. It means that we will not be able to field one of the open charters for the race in Yoggy Oval to the FISCAR champion to be crowned supposedly before the NSSCRA round here in Yoggy. As Raihaanun wanted to focus on the playoffs, we will have to find a way for the charter to be filled."

"Hello, Rusty, so what do you mean?"

"I heard you were planning to run an open charter for my fiancee, Kyoko Fujisaki, at Kardashia, but it seems that you did not push through due to unforseen circumstances. Since there is an slot for the open charter available, I wanted her to race here going for your plans."

"I'd love to have her race there, but seems that she might not come there in time for the qualifying. You know she cannot skip the AOCAR race as she is one of the five drivers in contention for the championship..."

"...that would be an easy solution. I will have Barney qualify the car on her behalf and let her start from the rear of the field due to driver change. I'd reckon NSSCRA officials would allow that move. So you can finally launch that project you are brewing next season. And yes, we're in to that deal that we will have a technical alliance next season."

"Good to hear that. I will personally go to Yoggy next week to see your team. Hope your WGPC schedule allow you that."

"Sure, I don't have any races during that weekend. Let's iron out some details and have the launch of your car next season there."

Bottle of beer in his left hand, bag of chips in his right, Jeremiah Brooke sat on the couch in front of the TV in his hotel room in Kardashia. He had been discharged from the hospital just a few days ago, but he would not be cleared to travel and race in Valentine Z. What a pity, he thought, as he loved that place. Everything truly is bigger there, from the people and the food to the hugs and the smiles. Not saying that staying in his own country is a bad alternative, though. It's just he really missed being out there on the track with forty-five others. His fellow drivers. His friends.

Thousands of miles away, Stacie Houston sat behind the wheel of the #18 Chadwick that Jeremiah, her husband, normally drove. If not for the mandatory racing helmet and window net, one would easily notice how big of a smile she was sporting as she drove around the Valentian road course slowly for the pace lap. And for good reason, too. The news of Jeremiah's release was the greatest news that Stacie has heard all week, and she hoped that the big boost to her morale that it brought would also translate to a boost in her performance during the race itself.

"Okay Stacie, pace car's in. We're green in just a few moments," #18 spotter Raymond Goldfarb said on the radio.

"Ten-four," was Stacie's reply.

A few seconds later, Raymond spoke again. "Green flag! Green, green, green!"

"Alright then, let's kick some ass!"

Stacie started in the fourteenth position, but it didn't take long for her to move to the front. By the ninth lap, she was already challenging for the lead, and by the twelfth, she had made a pass on River Suzgar to take it for herself. "Yes! Woohoo! That's my wife!" Jeremiah screamed at his TV screen.

Stacie remained in the lead for several more laps, and while she encountered some strong resistance in the form of the likes of Drake Stevenson, Yraaga Gilli'i, and even Jeremiah's teammate (and hers, for the meantime) Thea Alvarez, she still managed to stay in the front pack, running no worse than sixth by the halfway point. Pit stops the rest of the way dropped Stacie to as low as eighteenth, but it wouldn't take long for her to regain the spots she lost. All in all, it was shaping up to be a very good day for her. She'd finished eleventh, sixth, and fifth in her first three races filling in for Jeremiah - could she surpass herself once more, perhaps pull off the improbable and snatch a win away from all the regulars? Or will fate intervene and cause something to go horribly wrong? (Wait, maybe not - her name isn't Sage Caldwell, after all. And speaking of Sage, we'll get to him.)

After being stuck behind Kai Qiang for a handful of laps, Stacie finally decided she's had enough and made good use of her front bumper. Not enough to wreck Qiang, but certainly sufficient to loosen him up and allow her to make the pass for fourth with four laps to go. No, that isn't too little time for a comeback - the track, like everything else in Valentine Z, was oversized, almost six miles long to be exact. Just ahead of her, Stacie saw Thea having a hard time trying to get past the two leaders, teammates Centur Tiones and Yraaga Gilli'i. It didn't take long for the two girls in the Chadwicks to start working together and take the challenge to the two guys in the Darts. Back at the hotel, Jeremiah braced himself for what's likely going to be a good battle for the finish, made even better when Qiang inserted himself into the mix, not to mention the Shark.

Centur, probably fueled by rage what with all the rumors swirling around that the VilTurs would get rid of him for failing to make the Chase, battled Qiang as fiercely as he can up front, allowing YG, whose title hopes are still alive, to slip past. Stacie followed YG through the gap, making a move on the inside. Thea, meanwhile, took the outside, but it turned out to be a bad decision, Qiang moving over to throw a block and separating the two Chadwicks. This time, it's her seeing Stacie battle the two Darts, but Thea just couldn't reach them. Qiang was probably also fueled by rage after losing the lead, and probably cussing up a storm inside his car while continuing to block Thea well.

The Darts were still leading the rest of the field at the white flag, with Stacie in pursuit, not far behind. They passed the Central Curves no problem, then the Puzundaung Turn. Stacie briefly took the lead at General Aung San's Meanders, causing Jeremiah to jump and cheer back at the hotel. But she slowed a bit at the Upper-downer, and at the Parking Dagon (not Dragon, not Dagan), YG and Centur have passed her again. "Damn it!" she exclaimed in frustration. The two Darts took the Shwedagon Turn, and then it's back to the city. Thea and Qiang were now gaining on the three, with the former now also being more aggressive than usual against the latter as he was preventing her from catching and linking up once again with her (temporary) teammate.

As the field approached Boyoke Aung San's Challenge, Stacie found herself stuck behind the Darts yet again. but she wondered if Centur would let his pride get the better of him and try to prevent a winless season, rather than let YG have the dub and send him straight to the Championship Four. And then she realized that she was in a similar situation. with her trying for the shock win versus her helping Thea advance. Or she would be, if Thea wasn't trapped in a shoving match against Qiang. "Guess I'll try for the win, then," Stacie thought, but ended up saying aloud on the radio. The lead cars passed the Downtown Run, and now it's only a straight distance remaining until the checkered flag. "Come on Stace, you can do it," Jeremiah frantically chanted as he watched the last few seconds of the race tick down.

YG and Centur were now side by side, the latter probably wanting the former to fight him for the win rather than help him. However, the two weren't touching, and a gap formed in the middle of them. "This is it," Stacie thought. "It's now or never." She powered her car through that gap, making it three wide with just a few hundred yards remaining. Jeremiah was momentarily taken by surprise at his wife's daring move, but then realized that, given that situation, he likely would have done the same.

"You're in the middle, three wide," Raymond said on the radio, repeating it a few times. "Three wide, three wide..." Jeremiah's eyes stayed glued to his screen for a few seconds, as the broadcast switched to a split screen view of the race and Stacie's in-car camera.

"Clear."

Six weeks ago, Jeremiah was caught in a terrible crash in Sword Island, knocking him out of the race and the Chase, and sending him to a hospital. The team scrambled to find someone to fill his seat, until he himself recommended Stacie, who had just given birth a few months prior, not raced in almost a year, and not won in almost two. Some people were iffy on the decision at first, until she silenced those critics with three straight top fifteen performances. Expectations for her to deliver a dub were still low, though, given her status as a replacement. But that day, at the longest track of the schedule in the biggest participant country of the series, she delivered. She dominated at the start, fought hard at the finish, and prevailed. Stacie cheered loudly in her car as she passed the start/finish line in first place, as Carl Tanner, one of the commentators for Kanyean channel SKYNET Sports said, "Jeremiah Brooke is probably watching at home with the same reaction as his wife to that win."

"You bet your ass I am!" Jeremiah himself screamed at his screen.

Centur took second, YG third, Qiang fourth and Thea fifth. Despite being beaten by two other Chasers, Thea took a very slim points lead of just one point, the three points from her second win proving to be the advantage. "I still wouldn't be too sure about my chances," she told reporters. "The round has just started, and Stacie's win opened up possibilities as now only at most two will automatically make the Championship Four. This 46 team will still need to work harder in the coming rounds, especially next week at home, where we won last season."

So now let's talk about Sage Caldwell. Yet another seesaw of a race for him, starting nineteenth, ending seventeenth, leading a few laps but also being as far back as fortieth. "Just because I'm out of the Chase doesn't mean finishes like these are fine," he said. "This is still disappointing for me. I thought for sure this was gonna be my year, but though my quest for the title had to end earlier than I wanted, it still is a big improvement, in a way, from last season. I made the Chase for the first time. Still not happy about not having a dub, though. I won't stop until I get mine. I know I've been so close a lot of times, and that still stings when i think about it, but I'm just gonna let those serve as lessons for me. Till next week, see you all then. Yeah, Jeremiah, brother, you too. Me, Thea, Stacie of course, we all miss you."

The Gardeners – Race 23 – Main Series: Valentian's Yangon Tour 400, New Aoutpine (Lower) Yangon, Valentine Z (Road Course) // Everlong: ရန်ကုန်မြို့တော်ကြိုဆိုရေး (A Warm Yangon Welcome), New Aoutpine (Lower) Yangon, Valentine Z (Road Course)

For a good while, Holly was definitely more than happy to see Valentine Z again. Not just because she was closer to her home at that moment, but also because Valentijn approved of her gifting a handful of items, deeming that "They are probably not that very harmful to the people around, unlike something that can spontaneously combust," referring to the dangers and unpredictable nature of things that come from Holly's world. She always know how to control it, but in her dimension, the Valentians have seen how dangerous she really can be, though not out of malice.

The first group of people she met were the ones from Sherpa, what with Kai Qiang getting a smaller copy and clone of herself. Holly's clone, for all purpose and intentions, are smaller and lesser beings, for the lack of a better word. They can share memories with her at will, though lacking quite a handful of abilities that the main Holly can do. This is a limitation by design to reduce risks, because goodness knows she does not want everyone else around to know about her, or what she truly is. This is especially so with her giving Rinzi the self-generating ice-cream cup. "I hope God will forgive me for using magic that does not come from Him," was the remark, to which Holly didn't take offense. She knew all about the religions outside of her world and to be quite honest, she would be labelled as such an anomaly by most of the religions - for better or for worse. So glad she personally gifted these to them, she thought, because other people might have interfered and threw them away.

In particular, she noticed that one of the little clones that she gave is now going to be in the hands of a few children, after being presented carefully and someone touching. "Please be careful," the little clone said sheepishly to those that are around her. As far as Holly could see and sense, it was all normal and wholesome. She has little to no problems with regifting, because that is the part of sharing things with others; her only concern is on what if someone binned it. So far, that wasn't happening, not as far as she was concerned. Holly (the actual one) also learned that one of the clones, the very same one she gave to Kai Qiang, got a nickname Xiaozhong (小柊). "Cute name, I can live with that!" she remarked, "I do have a bit of concern on whether this might work. They like to grab me a little too hard, hm hm! Not that it makes me uncomfortable, but it would freeze their hands if not careful."

That would most very likely had to be taught along the way, she thought. She already gave reminders and warnings to Kai Qiang that she is a very, very cold being, although not as cold as her. Holly remembered the numerous times whereby the Valentians have to interject because too many people lost their fingers from touching her. Then again, Xiaozhong is only -10 C, Holly herself is -200 C.

For her, it was not so much of expecting a gift or monetary compensation of her own. After all, it's all a gift to the people around her for being so gentle. It's not everyday that she would illicit such a feeling of normalcy in those around her, what with world leaders wanting a bit of her for their own gains. Most people in NSSCRA are so much more workable and amicable.

"Thank you!" one of the little kids told Holly, with Xiaozhong in tow and being held gently after a few more "Ouch, cold!" exclaimations.

Welcome to Filindostan!
Maligayang pagdating sa Pilindostan! | Selamat datang di Pilindostan!

Welcome to Filindostan, a four-island archipelago located around Central Esportiva. Its capital and largest city is San Marco, located in the Kabishawan Island. For more information about the country and its geography, culture, and sports, please refer to this link.

Pelita Raya (pe-li-ta ra-ya) is the westernmost island in Filindostan and is comprised of three component cities, and three fifth class municipalities. The so-called Tri-Cities are located in this island - Bandarito, Bandariyan, and Bandaroon (ban-da-ro-on). The other towns in the island are West Rava, Gurunsing, and Yogyakulta. Like Kabunuklan, the island is full of trees and lush forests along Bandaroon and most of its towns. Despite lagging behind Kabishawan and Tanjung Pagi in terms of economy and tourism, the Island prides itself with the fishing industry, particularly in the outskirts of Bandaroon, West Rava and Yogyakulta.

Many seafood restaurants are located here, testament of the fishing industry the island has. In Bandarito alone, there are tens of known 'dampa' (OOC: place where you can pick live fish and cook them with your desired meals), which may be covered in an upcoming article. Cost of living is much lower compared to the other two islands, but the quality of accommodations is inferior to the two islands but superior to Kabunuklan, which is considered to be the most remote of the four.

Yogyakulta (pronounced as JOH-jah-kul-tah), officially known as Kota Otonomo Yogyakulta (or Koytog for short) is the first autonomous city of Filindostan. With a national decree signed on 90005 to make the then-town of Yogyakulta an autonomous city to address the increasing industrialization of the area known for its fishing. It has slowly become a motorsports mecca, with the Yogyakulta International Circuit and the Yoggy Oval being built in three years to cater for the motorsport industry where people used to held illegal street races.

The goverment recently built an international airport in the city, reducing travel time to the city compared to landing on either San Marco or Bandaroon from 45 minutes to three hours, to just ten minutes.

More information such as national laws and guidelines can be downloaded at the official Yogyakulta site: www-dot-kotyogyakulta-dot-gov-dot-fid.

The Yoggy Oval

Built in 90006, the Yoggy Oval, officially the 'Yogyakulta Oval', was built by the government, sponsored by Petrofilindo in order to be able to test the engines and sports cars produced by Badai Angin. The track became an integral part of the automobile company's preparation to enter both World Grand Prix Championship and NSSCRA, which was pre-empted by the demise of Kissan's motorsport division (KISMO). Today, the track caters to both NSSCRA and FISCAR competitions, as well as some test runs for the BAP003, the chassis of Badai Angin for the WGPC19 season.

The Badai Angin Night Race at the Yoggy

This is the fourth time that the NSSCRA's main series have paid a visit to Filindostan's premier short track. In its first race as the "Yoggy 500" during the NSSCRA 8 regular season, Brigadegeneral Eva Kerman won for Jebslunder Motorenwerken from Stacie Houston of Team Cassadaigua, and Jeremiah Brooke of Glorious Free Republic Motorsports, with the Jebslunder starting from the outside of the 5th row. Chet Byrd, the pole winner of the race, fell to 26th in the official race standings. It was a harsh race for the home team, as their only entry who made the race, Hana Bhe, was involved in an accident and failed to finish the race.

NSSCRA returned to Yoggy the next season, getting the Badai Angin sponsorship and was called "Badai Angin 500 at the Yoggy". This time, it was Kai Qiang of the Yulpa Sherpa College team who won the race from Team Blue's Frank Bronson and Badai Angin Tim's Hana Bhe, who got her best finish so far in her career. Qiang started the race 37th, placing 39th in qualifying behind two non-qualified cars. Vilita & Turori Motorsports' River "Shark" Suzgar II won the Vilaye Pole Award for that race, and finished just outside the top 10. The race was also known for an outburst from Hapiloppian Chris Holmes, then driving for Team Blue where he shoved a track official and had a heated discussion with his compatriots.

The first two races NSSCRA here were held on clear sunlight on a Sunday, but on its third race during NSSCRA 10, the race was run under the lights on a Saturday night, with the name and official logo of the race updated to the "Badai Angin Night Race at the Yoggy". Additionally, NSSCRA has realigned the schedule of the race from the early to middle part of the regular season to the third race of the playoffs, where it serves as an elimination race for the Round of 16. Yraaga Gilli'i of Vilita and Turori Motorsports got the pole that race, but Rinzi Aogar Zakhilwal, who was on the outside looking in before the race started, won his way to the next round from 4th position at the start, bumping home hopeful Fiona Sunarya out of the playoffs in the closing laps of the race.

This season will be the last of the Badai Angin sponsorship as they have confirmed their withdrawal from NSSCRA at the onset of the playoffs, with the race remained to be held at night. NSSCRA kept the race in the playoffs, but instead it will determine the fates of the drivers in the Round of 8 on who will race for the championship at Tundra Falls, being the penultimate race and the Round of Eight elimination race.

Also, this will be the first time the second-tier series, the Everlong Contenders' Series, will visit the track. The race will be sponsored by Descension and their Girls Will Code program, titled Descension Girls Will Code 350. Descension has confirmed they will take over naming rights for the Multiversal Series race next season after the aforementioned withdrawal by Badai Angin. The winner of the race which will be held on Friday night, will take the 46th starting spot in the next day's Multiversal Series race as one of the open charter entries.

The FISCAR season ending race would have been part of this week's racing activities in the Yoggy Oval, but unexpected events at the Petrofilindo Superspeedway earlier this month has suspended the FISCAR activities indefinitely, thus the second open charter will be used by Rusty Motorsport to run a joint entry with Kissan Motorsport.

The race winner this season will receive a Badai Angin Kecepatan K0 sports car, as well as 1 million NSD courtesy of various race sponsors. The top rookie as well as the top unchartered drivers will receive 250 thousand NSD as well.

The Playoff Picture

With the race being part of the NSSCRA playoffs for the second time, eight drivers are hoping to punch their ticket to the Championship Race at Newmanistan's Tundra Falls Proving Grounds. As Stacie Houston won the Valentians' Yangon Tour, and Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha winning at the Kardashia Chadwick Dealers' 400, no one has secured their spot yet. The two Hapiloppian drivers of Good Team Blue, Drake Stevenson, and Taylor Henderson, are the bookies' favorite for the championship four slots but there are just nineteen points between the next six contenders from NSSCRA 9 race's polesitter Yraaga Gilli'i of Vilita and Turori Motorsports, to Guillermo Archer of UrGa Motorsports Division. There are even ten points between Gilli'l and GFR's sole contender Thea Alvarez in seventh, who looks to be most Filindo fans' bet for the race.

In Everlong's side of the playoffs, only Daryl Calhoun of GFR has punched his ticket to the Championship Four, with seven other drivers in contention to join him in the Championship 4 race at the Proving Grounds.

Miscellaneous Events
There will be several events supporting the NSSCRA activities this week, which include the following:

Media Day for playoff and home drivers: Filindostani media have prepared a list of questions for the playoff drivers:
  • Are you feeling any pressure right now for the Elimination Race on Saturday Night?
  • How confident are you on making the Championship Four?
  • Who do you think will win on raceday?
  • Are there already plans set for you next season?
Media outlets outside Filindostan can ask other questions aside from the above mentioned questions.

Badai Angin Sponsor event and Exhibit: Outside the Yoggy Oval, there will be an exhibit by the Badai Angin Tim Motorsport where various cars will be displayed, such as the WGPC cars driven by Mattijanan driver Alex Dimitrianov during WGPC 17 and 18, as well as the #00 car by Fiona Sunarya which she drove last season to a win in the TJUN 600. Other cars that will be displayed are the cars raced in the Formula Hodori as well as the Hodoran GT championship, and race winning cars from Everlong Series for the three Rusty Motorsport drivers this season.

The Team will be in the sponsor event at 10 AM local time to make several announcements regarding their motorsport fans as well as draw a Badai Angin Kecepatan K8 hatchback and coupe for lucky attendees.

Descension Girls Will Code Hackathon: Descension Girls Will Code Hackathon is a 48-hour event where groups of coders will design and develop an application to meet various needs depending on the organizers' theme. This event requires an all-girl group to participate. Non-binaries who identify themselves as female can also participate in the event. The hackathon event will be held in Descension's newly opened Yogyakulta Delivery Office near the Yoggy Oval starting at Wednesday night at the same hour the Everlong race will start on Friday, and will end once the chequered flag drops at the DGWC 350. The winners of the event will be announced in the sponsor event on Saturday morning, and the winners will get free tickets to watch the Multiversal Series' night race later that evening, among other prizes such as mobile phones and tablets from Telebuenas MotoMo'To!. Participants of the hackathon will get to have the Everlong race played live on the TV sets in pantries to be able to track whether the time is up or not.

International participants can visit Descension's website to register and to get more information.

The Qiang family were at a hotel in Kardashia. Sima and Xiaozhong were chasing each other around the chairs in the lobby, Tsering was trying to persuade Kami that the frosty light-creature was not going to freeze her to death, and Kai Qiang was on the phone with his other wife Mendok who had returned home to Guilin.

Back home, things were going all haywire. Qiang had seen the reports on the news even before he talked to Mendok. Hospitals in Wuchang were getting overwhelmed and asking for help from other parts of the Empire. The Sherpa Ministry of Health had imposed quarantine measures on the entire city with checkpoints on all the roads in or out, as if it was an independent country with international border security. The border crossings that connected Wuchang to the Chinese cities of Hankou and Hanyang were essentially closed. A bunch of people were under quarantine in Kathmandu after a passenger on an international flight tested positive for coronavirus. Several international flights had been grounded on Ministry of Health orders, and the North Chinese were not taking it well. Assorted Chinese politicians had expressed anger at the border restrictions and cancelled flights. A restauranteur in Hankou had gone on TV to complain that he could no longer get meat from his usual supplier in Wuchang. "Nanjing is the historical capital of China, and now we are not even allowed to visit!" complained someone whose flight to Nanjing had been grounded.

The Sherpa Empire had 1279 confirmed cases of Hankou coronavirus and China had 243, but Sherpa leaders claimed that the difference in case numbers was due to more thorough testing and contact tracing on their side of the border. There were a bunch of suspected cases, people in isolation due to possible exposure, and so on -- so the number of confirmed cases was not definitive. The Chinese were still touting the case numbers as proof that the virus had originated south of the Yangtze.

Mendok said she was thinking about going to Wuchang to help out.

"Mendok, you've spent the last month saying you think you're pregnant. Shouldn't you be looking after your own health?" Qiang said. "Someone else can go to Wuchang and help them with this virus."

"Yeah, but they don't have enough people!" said Mendok.

"And what if you catch this thing?" said Qiang.

"Of course I'll be careful if I go!"

"I don't think you should go," said Qiang.

"But I want to help people!" said Mendok.

Qiang was out of sorts throughout the race weekend. Rinzi had the best results of any of the Sherpa drivers, and he wasn't the only non-Chase driver having a good weekend. The top 6 places all went to drivers who were already eliminated. Meanwhile Chase drivers Gil Archer and Thea Alvarez were not impressing anyone with their 29th and 30th place finishes.

Kai Qiang looked more disheveled than usual as he did his post-race interviews. "I really didn't have good race," he said, rubbing his head as he talked and messing up his hair more than it already was. "I feel like I dodged a bullet because some of the other drivers that I need to beat had a bad day too. I definitely need to do better next week."

Tsering had a bit of helmet hair, but she didn't look as messy as Qiang. "You don't win championships by finishing 18th," she signed for the camera. She smiled shyly, still a little dazzled by all the attention she attracted. "I will need a good result next week to make the championship 4 -- but it's still really cool that I'm close enough to be thinking about the championship 4. No matter what happens, this has been a great year for me, and I'm really proud of my crew."

Interviews from Media Day at Yogyakulta:

Tsering:

Are you feeling any pressure right now for the Elimination Race on Saturday Night?
I always have a lot of anxiety before an important race like this. I think anyone that says they don't feel the pressure is lying.
How confident are you on making the Championship Four?
I don't know. I am going to do the best I can, but I am below the cut line right now, so it could either way. We'll see.
Who do you think will win on raceday?
Carpet Khan. He always wins at the most annoying possible time.
Are there already plans set for you next season?
Yeah, I'm planning to keep my team going with YSCD.

Qiang:

Are you feeling any pressure right now for the Elimination Race on Saturday Night?
It doesn't get to me as much as it used to, but yeah, the pressure is still there.
How confident are you on making the Championship Four?
I know I'm good enough to make it. I'll be mad at myself if I don't get in.
Who do you think will win on raceday?
I'm going to win. Did you really think I was going to pick someone else?
Are there already plans set for you next season?
I'll be back as long as the Ministry of Health doesn't quarantine Guilin.

The Gao family home didn't have much of a yard, but they had a patio with a few scraggly potted plants. The Everything Tree's bright colors really stood out from the rest. Most of the plants were dusty and gray from all the sandstorms and air pollution.

Gongming Gao's mother clasped her hands and her face glowed with delight. "It's beautiful!" she said. "I've never seen anything like it!" She patted Gao affectionately on the back. "It's so nice of you to help me brighten up my patio."

Gao smiled. He didn't know when he was going to see his mom again, so he wanted to really enjoy the moment now while he was here. It was good to see her happy.

Gao was not worried about the Wuchang coronavirus. He didn't think it would get out of control in China the way it was getting out of control south of the Yangtze. In China, most people had access to quality private healthcare. In Pharak, that was a rare luxury, only available to the richest of the rich. Even the Pharaki NSSCRA drivers still relied on the IHS because they'd been conditioned not to demand better. The difference in the quality of the two countries' healthcare infrastructure was obvious in the infection numbers.

But even if it would be perfectly safe to spend the winter in Lanzhou, it sounded kind of boring. He wanted to spend more time with Alice. He wanted to meet her family, to see where she came from, to learn about her culture and immerse himself in it. There were a fair number of Muslims in Lanzhou, but not black Swahili-speaking ones like Alice. NSSCRA had helped him broaden his horizons, and he liked that. Now he wanted to go out and see what else the world had to offer besides race tracks, magical trees, and a bajillion products mass-produced by Tropicorp.

Well then...I'm back! After 2 weeks away due to obvious circumstances, I'm back just in time for the Top 8 to duke it out for a spot in the Championship 4. This part of the season is always fun and chaotic no matter what and considering what #07 said last week, we certainly have a bit to talk about in this one. But first, the racing!

The Axis Hyper Clean 300 was the Everlong Race here at the Kardashia Autoring here in Saint Kanye and to say we might be in big trouble here might be an understatement. Alice Jepkosgei (@AJ96) qualified in 2nd for this race and ended up in 12th and that is alright, but that wasn't the main problem here. Poor Robin Dragonovic (@RD97SNL) was, as he both started and finished in 19th and but his title hopes on the ropes. He's 9 points back now heading into the finale and with Daryl Calhoun winning this race, 3 spots are yet to be accounted for. This is gonna be tight, I can feel it.

The Kardashia Chadwick Dealers 400 itself was in the midst of the chaos and everyone had interesting races today. Maddison Riley-Jones (@MaddyRJ03) qualified in 12th and finished down in 22nd, but at least she finished 3rd in the iRos race! The boys meanwhile were pretty tight in this one, with Michael Stefan (@Stefan07) going from 33rd to 13th while Alfonso Mercado (@AM64) started directly behind and finished directly ahead. Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha won this one meaning that heading into the final race in Filindostan, no one at all has claimed a spot in the Final 4. This finale at the Yoggy will be hell for us all as everyone, even those far back, still has a chance at the crown.

Now then...what about what Stefan said last week. Yes, my boss wanted revenge but...not that much. Sure, she wanted him to fall but...not me. I just want us and TB to be considered "rivals" like we and Gil Archer were long ago. That's all. That's all I'll say. See you soon...

KISMO to officially return to NSSCRA next season, open charter to be run at the Yoggy

KARDASHIA, SAINT KANYE - A model of the next-generation Kissan Arakaze has graced one of the booths in the infield of the Kardashia Autoring the day before the race here, signifying Kissan's return to NSSCRA. The paint scheme displayed was for the #09 car of Kyoko Fujisaki who is one of the leading contenders for this season's AOCAR competition, and chances are that she will make the jump to the NSSCRA next season if she can win it all in the final race in Turori. The next day, the car was put under wraps again to make some changes in the car number, from #09 to #36, and the number colors inverted.

We asked personnel from Kissan Motorsport on why the changes were made during race day. However, they told us to wait for the official press release to be announced three hours before the green flag waves to find out why. Katana Racing has used #09 in their part time ride, when Chiemi Hino officially announced her engagement to current driver Eiji Ibi in Sankyoku, and Kyoko Fujisaki was given a chance to drive the car at Hapilopper City Raceway but did not finish the race. In both of those races, both drivers drove a Badai Angin Kecepatan, which were rebadged to Kissan Kamikazes in Sankyoku, as literally, the Kecepatan and the Kamikaze are just the same car line. Initially our thoughts was Kissan wanted to distance themselves from Katana Racing, however, these were proven to be false during their press release.

Kissan Motorsport launched their new Kissan Arakaze in front of a hundred fans in Saint Kanye. The Arakaze is a state-of-the-art car made through numerous racing data from the predecessors, the Kamikaze, and the BA Kecepatan. Built by a joint team of Ajian and Kanyean engineers led by Latrell Degurechaff, who also worked on Chadwick's MegaChad and GigaChad heavy duty trucks, the Arakaze will be Kissan's primary car for the incoming 12th season of NSSCRA's Multiversal Series. Degurechaff and some of the engineers including Kazuhiro Kyubei, who masterminded the design of the initial Kamikaze who won three NSSCRA races in Season 6 were in attendance as well.

In the same press release, it has been announced that Kyoko Fujisaki will be driving the recently renumbered #36 car as the second open charter entry in Filindostan's Yoggy Oval night race. There might be a concern that she might miss qualifying depending on how the final race in Turori will play out. In any case, Barnabas Mate, which Everlong Series team is also racing in the same track, is on standby to drive the car during qualifying in case Fujisaki does not arrive in time for the session at the Yoggy Oval. In this case, Fujisaki would have to start the race from the back of the grid.

Questions were asked on why the number was changed from #09 to #36, and it was to pay tribute to Nestor Punto, a local Filindo open wheel racer who lost his life in a terrible attack in Petrofilindo Superspeedway. Also the number colors were inverted to display more black to the number. The press release made no mention of how many cars will KISMO run next season or whether Eiji Ibi will keep his ride as the team would take over Katana Racing's NSSCRA operation for next season.

Fujisaki's #36 is primarily sponsored by Kissan Motors, with associate sponsorship from Drymark, and Konbini 24/7, Eiji Ibi's car sponsors for this season. Additional announcements will be made in Filindostan in time for the night race at Yogyakulta's Yoggy Oval.

Yoggy Oval
Media Day before the first practice session

In the wake of Nestor Punto's death, several plans for Filindo NSSCRA teams were curtailed when the teams traveled to Yogyakulta for this weekend's race in the Yoggy Oval. All the Filindo-registered entrants participated with at least changing the color scheme of their number to black, with the number style used by Punto in the WGP3 Filindostan series being an inlet to the upper right side of the number, and have their name on the roof changed to derivatives of the Nestor Punto name. Five of the teams completely changed their scheme to a primarily black scheme to pay their tributes to the budding young driver who is part of the Team Agamata, owned by FISCAR veteran Marinel Agamata.

Agamata was requested to run a #36 BA Kecepatan that would be co-prepared by Rusty Motorsport, Badai Angin Tim, and Monghit Motorsport in lieu to this season's FISCAR champion who would have been crowned before the NSSCRA race, but she refused the offer, not being ready to race after being emotionally affected by the events. The application for the open charter that was allotted for the FISCAR champion was given instead to Kissan Motorsport and their debuting Kissan Arakaze, with them carrying a black #36 number instead of their planned #09 for Kyoko Fujisaki.

The #0 Multiversal and the #70 Everlong teams of Hana Bhe and Shania Soraya respectively would have sported a pink and black scheme similar to what Fiona Sunarya ran two seasons ago in the #83, but instead the #0 would invert the colors to have the black as the primary and the pink as the highlight/trim color instead. Soraya had her usual Badai Angin scheme changed to have the teal replaced by black, and red replaced by yellow which is being used by Punto's Monghit Junior Team Agamata in the open wheel competition.

Masayabee had their 'smiling bee' logo removed for this week, primarily in the #99 car and the other cars which they have associate sponsorship, and Sunarya's #99 car had a darker color of orange, with Punto's #36 on the hood of the car replacing the said Masayabee logo. There were no changes in Rockii Ezis' #60, with Filindo graphics coordinators failing to notify their CoCoCo counterparts in time for the scheme change to be approved, but nevertheless, they still participated with the number color and roof name changes. The #71 and #72 teams did similar black scheme changes as well.

There will be a minute's silence in the pre-race ceremony to commemorate Punto, as well as a planned backdrop from the crowd on laps 36 and 360 of the race to honor him.

Rusty Motorsport cancelled a press release that would officially announce their car manufacturer next season in light of Badai Angin's withdrawal at the end of the season, and instead will do an online announcement via their twii.tur instead.

Bhe Residence
Bandariyan, Filindostan
A day before the practice sessions

Hana returned in Bandariyan to see her family as well as her boyfriend, Rod Gozum. Rod has been racing locally in FISCAR since quitting WGP2 at the end of last season, and was aware that he will race her girlfriend in prospect next season, as Bhe has a preliminary contract to driver for the Sparta Euskadi Armendaritze organization next season. She was resting in her room, when her phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hi Hana, Rusty here. How are you doing?" Rusty asked over the phone.

"Yeah, I'm fine. You know I already have a FISCAR contract so I would have to decline any offers for that competition."

"I know, I know. But I know also one thing, since I am also aware of Badai Angin contracts."

"What about it?"

"Well, our negotiations with Rockii seems to be at a dead-end, and we would want to settle our lineup at Rusty Motorsport next season. We plan to have two full-time cars regardless of whether we will get one or two charters based from this season, and we would want an experienced driver to pair up with Barney next season and will be willing to drive charterless next season. I know you did this already this season, and we are looking for you to be the driver for our 2nd car."

"You know Rusty, I don't really want to drive charterless like I did this season, but if you offer me a long-term contract, like at least two guaranteed seasons, I might reconsider it and accept your offer."

"You know it too well Hana, that we have two young drivers in our pipeline, we have Mercy and Shania in our Everlong roster, and if either of them win the title next season, then they will ask to be promoted to the Multiversal series. We cannot commit to three full-time drivers in Multiversal that time."

"I didn't say that those two guaranteed seasons are all Multiversal. I just want a stable contract, that's all. I still wanted to compete internationally, so even that Everlong drive I can still accept. By the way, have you offered this also to Fiona?"

"I did, but she said she's signed to another organization for next season. You know, my fiancee was supposed to be driving in the Multiversal series full time next season whatever happens in AOCAR, but she decided last minute she wanted to return to WGPC open wheels next season so she didn't take that opportunity, and that spot would probably where Fiona would be next season."

"Okay. let's meet in Yoggy to iron out further details and let's see whether I will accept your offer or not."

Hana was well aware Fiona's destination, having the first person who was informed by her personally. She just wanted to make sure that her friend's future would be sorted out first than she does. She's well aware that at this time, Fiona would be the better driver than her.

Star Shines Bright in Kardashia, Chase Wide Open

Kardashia Chadwick Dealers 400, Kardashia Autoring, Kardashia, Saint Kanye :: A difficult season for one of the most well known Valkyrie drivers got just a little bit brighter in Saint Kanye as Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha took her first victory of the season beating Jenna Logan, River 'Shark' Suzgar II and Stacie Houston across the stripe in the Kardashia Auto Dealers 400.

While the driver from Valentine Z stole the spotlight it was also a massive day for drivers from Cassadaigua with the Rushmori nation putting three drivers inside the top 5 with Logan in runner up with Houston rounding out the Top 5 along with rookie driver Maddie Alexander, still in search of her first NSSCRA Multiversal Series victory, rounding out the top 5. With fellow rookie Maddison Riley-Jones finishing in 22nd position, Alexander opened up her gap in the rookie of the season standings to 32 points with just two races left in the season. If Alexander can post Top 10 finishes in each of the last two races she will secure the rookie of the season honors regardless of how Riley-Jones does in the final races.

For Vilita and Turori Motorsports, Suzgar's 3rd place finish marked the third consecutive race that the team put at least one car on the podium though from the standpoint of the Chase for the Championship there was still some left to be desired on the day. Yraaga Gilli'i and the #41 Tropicorp Racing Supply Dart team, Vilita & Turori Motorsports only remaining Chase Eligible driver, struggled late on at the Kardashia Autoring and could only finish 19th on the day. Luckily for Gilli'i, other Chase competitors also struggled including Kai Qiang, Guillermo Archer and Thea Alvarez allowing the Tropicorp backed driver to maintain their placement inside the Top 4 of the overall standings with just one race to go in the round. With each of the first two events of the Round of 8 being won by non-Chase eligible drivers there were at least 3 guaranteed spots in the Championship 4 available to driver based on points accrued in the Round of 8 and the third place finish Gilli'i had earned at the grueling Valentian Road Course had kept Gilli'i just hanging on inside the top 3 positions for the time being with a five point gap over Kai Qiang.

Of course, Gilli'i and the #41 Tropicorp Racing Supply Dart team will head into the penultimate race of the season with loads of confidence as the NSSCRA Multiversal Series makes it traditional pre-championship 4 Short-Track showdown event. After many seasons where the second to last race of the season was held in Vangaziland and one season at the Concord Heights Speedway in Cassadaigua, the NSSCRA's set-up race to decide the Championship Eligible drivers will come at the Yoggy Oval in Yogyakulta, Filindostan.

Vilita and Turori Motorsports have excelled on the short tracks thus far in NSSCRA Season 11 and have also had a history of strong performances at the Yoggy Oval where the team have won the pole position in the last two NSSCRA events held at the track. River 'Shark' Suzgar II was the pole winner during NSSCRA Season 9 when the race was run in the daytime while Gilli'i won the pole during NSSCRA Season 10 when the race was moved to night time and rebranded as the "Badai Angin Night Race at the Yoggy". The signature short track night race will also serve as the fifth and final round of the Five Star Combo for NSSCRA Season 11.

While River 'Shark' Suzgar II impressively climbed through the field during NSSCRA Season 8 after posting just the 59th fastest time in qualifying and eventually improving to finish 6th at the Yoggy Oval, the focus for the team this season will be getting Yraaga Gilli'i back to the Championship 4 for the first time since NSSCRA Season 8. Gilli'i has been a championship contender ever since NSSCRA Season 7 where they came within a nose of winning the NSSCRA Title after finishing runner-up to the Champion Stacie Houston in the Proving Grounds 500. Things did not go as smoothly for Gilli'i returning to the Championship 4 one season later failing to finish the race and being credited with 39th position, last among the Championship 4 drivers.

After having been rumored in a possible switch to Team Tropicorp during the offseason between NSSCRA 10 and 11, Gilli'i is now proving why both Vilita and Turori Motorsports and Tropicorp Racing Supply wanted to keep Gilli'i behind the wheel of the #41 Dart as they carry the flag for both entities late in the season. Gilli'i currently trails a pair of Team Blue drivers in the standings with Taylor Henderson atop the standings as the driver with the most race victories on the season along with TJUN-ia's Michael Stefan. Just behind Henderson is the regular season champion Drake Stevenson who many feel is finally molding into the driver many expected them to be when they first made the switch back from the World Grand Prix Championships to the NSSCRA with Team Blue two seasons earlier. Gilli'i will be looking to re-pay the loyalty that both Vilitaa and Turori Motorsports and Tropicorp Racing Supply have shown to the driver of the #41 Dart over the previous five seasons by putting them back into the Championship 4 with a Top 5 run at the Yoggy Oval.

VTM Driver Yraaga Gilli'i also participated in a media session in the build up to the Badai Angin Night Race weekend held specifically for the 8 remaining Chase Eligible drivers:

Q: Are you feeling any pressure right now for the Elimination Race on Saturday Night?

YG: There is always pressure. The competition in the NSSCRA Multiversal Series is always very difficult and it gets stronger every season. The only way to not have pressure coming into the penultimate race is to win one of the two that precede it. Since none of us won either of the race I think you will have 8 drivers all feeling the pressure on Saturday Night!

Q: How confident are you on making the Championship Four?

YG: We just try to go out and do the best we can every race. Our sponsor Tropicorp Racing Supply just wants to see their product in victory lane, whether thats our car with their logos on the side or maybe one of the others that is just running the Sifaka Tires. We want to put the #41 in Victory Lane and think we have a good shot under the lights at a Short Track. If we can do that, the Championship Four will come with it then anything can happen in Tundra Falls.

Q: Who do you think will win on Raceday?

YG: I think we would love to have a little more luck at the Yoggy we have always been fast there and got the pole a few seasons back. The Shark has been great on Short Tracks this season and it wouldn't surprise me to see him make it three short track wins on the season. Maybe Rockii Ezis can use some of that home track advantage for his team and send Badai Angin out of the sport on a positive note. If none of them can do it then hopefully we will be in the fight at the end.

Q: Are there already plans set for you next season?

YG: I let others worry about the details and just focus on driving. I think the Five Star Team Tropicorp partnership has been pretty great for the guys in Tropicoast and obviously we have put a pretty consistent season together even though we didn't get as many wins as we hoped thus far. I'll be back next season for sure and hopefully we can finish this season out strong because thats really the only focus right now.

Things in the Vilita & Turori Racer NSSCRA Chase Playoff Pick 'em Challenge saw a major shakeup with the results from the Kardashia Autoring and TJUN-ia's @DCarJR was the most unfortunate of the participants with each of their drivers finishing the race outside the Top 15. After a strong performance in the first race of the Round, @DCarJR has plummeted to second bottom in the standings and is now 25 points out of a spot in the Final Four pairings. Celebrity participant Nikkii Kater (@garbage_time) of Recycle Time fame was able to post the top score for the Kardashia round and lock her place into the Final Four pairings along with Saint Kanye's @FreeKohan420LOL. Each of the final two spots will be decided following the Yoggy OVal round with the top performance locking in regardless of where they fall in the standings and the remaining spot(s) being filled by the participant(s) with the highest three-race point total in the Round of 8.

The Night Race at the Yoggy will also offer a glimpse into NSSCRA Season 12 as the Kissan Motorsports team will return to the series and will get a head start at the Yoggy along with driver Kyoko Fujisaki. The Ajian is in a heated battle with Turori's Juracai Klianiota for the AOCAR Stock Car Series Title and is also one of Five drivers competing for the twii.tur Shootout Championship at the same time. Her Championship weekend will be complicated by her participation at the Yoggy but with the bigger picture in play it will be an important week of information gathering for the KISMO team to prepare for NSSCRA Season 12.

iROS Round #2: Kardashia Autoring, Kardashia, Saint Kanye :: Stacie Houston took advantage of a favorable starting position at the Kardashia Auto Ring to take a popular victory in the second round of iRoS action leading her pink #27 machine across the line just ahead of local driver #46 Thea Alvarez.

Stacie and Thea dominated the action in Kardashia combining to lead all but 3 of the 75 laps of competition featuring some of the most accomplished drivers in all of motorsports. Houston had looked strong in the iRoS opener in Togonistan leading laps after fortunately drawing the pole position before dropping out midway through the race. By virtuie of her last place finish in Togonistan, however, Houston was right back at the front of the field in Saint Kanye and this time she made the most of the advantage keeping the Pink #27 car at the front of the field for the majority of the race. The event was slowed twice for incidents involving the defending champions of both the World Grand Prix Championship and the NSSCRA Multiversal Series with Terho Talvela and Anastasia Freya Yadana Aye both failing to finish the event. Houston and Alvarez were the class of the field for long stretches exchaning the lead on a handful of occasions but Houston held the top spot when it mattered to take the checkered flag.

While Houston won the race, Alvarez hung on for second place and took over the overall series points lead from Rudy Edwards after two events. iRoS will resume action with Round 3 at the Tundra Falls Proving Grounds in Newmanistan with a local featured driver for the race expected to be announced in the coming days in Newmanistan.

With the NSSCRA Season also coming to an end at the Proving Grounds, the 7 NSSCRA drivers represented on the iRoS Circuit this season will still have two more races to contest in Aboveland and Vilita to keep their racing skills sharp throughout the offseason.

Logan, Alexander with Five Star Performance in Kardashia

Kardashia Chadwick Dealers 400, Kardashia Autoring, Kardashia, Saint Kanye:: Five Star Team Tropicorp rookie driver Maddie Alexander continued knocking on the door of her first career NSSCRA Multiversal Series victory with her third Top Five finish in Five Races at the Kardashia Autoring. It was also the second time in the prvious three events that Alexander was locked in a tight battle with the driver for whom she replaced in the #27 Five Star Mobile entry, Stacie Houston. Just two races prior it was Alexander who bested Houston in Squidroidia with the #27 Five Star Mobile entry finishing in fourth position just ahead of Houston who was driving the #18 in place of her husband Jeremiah Brooke. If it wasn't strange enough for Houston to be staring out the front window of her NSSCRA Stock Car and seeing the #27 Five Star Mobile ride ahead of her, it would be a similar story in Kardashia. This time, however, Houston wasn't driving the #18 but instead a specially prepared inverse pink #11 car with the Five Star Mobile sponsorship for Glorious Free Republic Motorsports. The two Five Star Mobile backed cars would finish nose to tail with Houston narrowly beating out Alexander on this occasion - but both were bested by fellow Dagan driver Jenna Logan - former driver of the Pink #11 Blaze on the NSSCRA Circuit but now piloting the #26 Tropicorp Dart to its second runner-up finish of the season as Logan looks to finish out the season strong in hopes of retaining her place in a playoff contending ride for NSSCRA Season 12.

While Logan's experienced presence has put the Tropicorp name on podium multiple times throughout the season including a famous victory in the Tropicorp 500, the rookie Maddie Alexander has been doing more than her part to keep the team competitive particularly in recent weeks. Alexander had been locked in a tight rookie of the season battle with Maddison Riley-Jones whom she had fought for the Everlong Contendors Series title one season prior. With her Top 5 finish in Kardashia coupled with Riley-Jones 25th place run, however, Alexander has opened up a 32 point lead in the Coleman and Thorne Rookie of the Season standings. Her early seasons struggles however keep the #27 team outside the Top 20 in the overall standings and pushing hard to keep their place in the hopes of retaining the guaraneed Charter for NSSCRA Season 12. To date there has been no comfirmation whether Alexander will retain the #27 for Season 12 or if Stacie Houston might be considering a full-time come back. With Houston already an NSSCRA Champion and seeming to enjoy her part-time success on the circuit, however, some have speculated that Alexander's strong finish to NSSCRA Season 11 has all but assured she will be offered a return to the team in her current role for next season.

While Alexander fights for her Rookie of the Season honors in the Multiversal Series, Five Star Team Tropicorp still have two drivers competing for a championship in the second Tier Everlong Contenders series, though both will have their work cut out for them in the Girls Will Code 300 at the Yoggy Oval. #27 Bryan Harrison is looking to pick up where Maddie Alexander left off one season ago and advance all the way to the Championship 4 but currently seats in 5th place with a 3 point gap to Pyotr Lavrientiev on the Everlong Standings. Harrison is the only remaining Championship Eligible driver that has not yet won a race yet this season and if they can accumulate enough points at the Yoggy Oval to sneak through inside the Top 4 they could be in position to become the first ever Winless NSSCRA Champion at any level. Harrison's teammate Jixaka Motorai is currently last in the Round 3 standings after her struggles in Valentine Z and would have to overcome a 20 point gap to advance, a difficult task with the shorter 32 car fields in the Everlong Contenders Series. In all likelihood, Motorai will need to take home her second victory of the season if she is to keep her own title hopes alive in Tundra Falls.

Taylor Henderson will look to become the biggest winner ever in the Five Star Mobile Combo series as she looks to take her third straight Five Star Combo Event. Henderson won the Regular Season Finale at the Jalton Superspeedway then followed it up with a back-to-back triumph in the Vilaye Energy Drink 314 at the Vilitan Mountain Challenge Course. With two Five Star Combo victories already on the season Henderson is the only driver that could turn it up into the big bucks with a third Combo victory of the season at the Badai Angin Night Race at the Yoggy. The two prior Five Star Combo race winners would also be in line for a smaller bonus if they could win; Tundra Falls 500 champion Michael Stefan of TJUN-ia and Tropicorp 500 race winner Jenna Logan of Five Star Team Tropicorp.

The other four Five Star Five participants will also be in line for a monetary bonus with a victory in Yogyakulta including Jeremiah Brooke, back in action after missing a series of races through injury, Brooke's Glorious Free Republic Motorsports Teammate Skip Stiller, Tsering Chu of The Sherpa Empire and Valentian driver Anastasia Freya Yadana Aye.

Chase 3-3(1): AYO, WHAT THE F-!

This blog was written by Derrick Carlisle, Jaguar Racing's Social Media Manager

Hello there. It is I, Derrick Carlisle, at your service once again and while yes, I would wait until tomorrow to get a post up for this weekend, today was one of those days where that is simply not possible. It's another cutoff weekend in the NSSCRA 11 Chase, the final one of the season in fact, and in both series, 8 had to become 4 by any means necessary. The Yoggy Oval in Filindostan is where this field has to be halved and everyone knew that, no matter what happened now, this weekend was going to be so brutal for us all.

Let's begin with Qualifying for the Badai Angin Night Race at the Yoggy, the Cup Series race where none of the Top 8 is safe and anyone can make it to Tundra Falls alive. Our drivers have no interest in the big battle anymore so we're just doing this for fun, but we still have to race and everyone will be up there for tomorrow's action. Alfonso Mercado (@AM64) was the best of the 3 in 11th with Michael Stefan (@Stefan07) in 15th and Maddison Riley-Jones (@MaddyRJ03) down in 24th with your top 3 for this one being Sage Caldwell, Drake Stevenson and Clarissa Alanis Star Samantha. Out of the Top 8, Anastasia Freya Yadana Aye will start farthest back in 29th while one of the two open-charters for this race, Eiji Ibi of Aji No Moto, starts in 36th in Stefan's old #00.

The other open-charter spot would be the winner of the Descension Girls Will Code 350, the Everlong Contenders Cutoff where only Daryl Calhoun was locked into the Top 4 and everyone else was in a battle to survive. Robin Dragonovic (@RD97SNL) needed a big performance in order to survive the cutoff and while qualifying in 21st certainly wasn't the best of starts, he certainly made up for it in the race. It was tight towards the end and he just about finished in 3rd, but that wasn't enough to survive by 5 points. Pyotr Lavrentiev finished 2nd and will contest the title alongside Calhoun, Al Shelton and Edmund Flanders in a straightforward Saint Kanye vs Hapilopper battle for the 2nd Everlong crown. Bryan Harrison, Rustam Ilyich Yudin and Jixaka Motorai were also eliminated. But even though this podium was not enough, he was still happy up there...maybe because of who won in the end.

You see, over the last week races and across the season in general, Alice Jepkosgei (@AJ96) has been a driver that does well in qualifying and then falls off a bit in the race, or maybe the other way round in special cases. Well, that would certainly change this weekend as qualifying put her in 5th and she was very consistent in this race. I don't know what changed here but today was certainly her day as she battled for potential history heading into the final few laps of the race. Robin was giving her support towards her back (while also trying to get as many points as possible himself) and Pyotr turned into the main rival heading into the final lap. She and he were neck and neck and crossing the line, it wasn't immediately obvious who won this race. Then the results came down from NSSCRA Race Control. AJ had beaten the Ceroatian by .005 seconds. Thus began the celebrations at #96.
JR: Chequered Flag, Chequered Flag! Well done, AJ! Brilliant driving and...nini? NINI?!
AJ: Huh? What's happening? Did I...win?
JR: Yes. You won...YOU BLOODY WON! ALICE JEPKOSGEI, WEWE NI MSHINDI WA MBIO!
AJ: AAAAAAAAAAAAAA! AAAAAAAAAAA! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO! FINALLY! THE DEED IS DONE!
JR: Yes it is, AJ! Nice to get it done before the season's end! Well done, you can do the spin now!
AJ: Asanteni nyote...you know, I was...losing hope for a while and...it's nice to finally get one...Thank you.

That message was a bit laid back, not what I was expecting, but once she did her burn out and got out of the car on Victory Lane, everything made sense: she was crying. Alice Jepkosgei, someone whose emotions are kept well behind her powerful attitude, was crying. It was as if the weights of expectation and discrimination had finally been lifted from her shoulders. She wasn't an "other" anymore. She was a race winner, just like Dragonovic, MRJ and Stefan before her. She, finally, felt like a true TJUN-ian sports star. She let the champagne fly and I am certainly proud of her, as are many within this team. She's good y'all. You better believe it now. See you tomorrow.

Three months after the hugely successful race weekend at the Jalton Superspeedway, It's a Yeezie tripleheader once more, this time in the capital city's own Kardashia Autoring.

Saturday saw the NSSCRA Everlong Contenders' Series take to the track for the Axis Hyper Clean 300, and it had been a strong qualifying run for the Skip Stiller Speedworks cars with Daryl Calhoun starting fourth and Pyotr Lavrentiev just 0.011 second slower in fifth. Both are still in the Chase; a win here for either of them would not only mean a place in the Championship Four but also one of the open charters for the Multiversal Cup Series' Kardashia Chadwick Dealers 400 the next day.

The two SSS drivers worked together to maintain their place in the front pack for the first half of the race; however, as the field got shuffled, Lav would lose Daryl and find himself falling back to as low as 25th, eventually ending up in 15th at the end and just three points clear of the cut line. Daryl, on the other hand, would run no further back than eighth the rest of the way and find himself in a tight battle for the win with Hapiloppian Edmund Flanders and Fleftic Agata Kosaryova. Edmund, like both SSS members, wanted for himself an automatic berth in the title race, but "Gasha" is not part of the Chase and is likely just wanting to play spoiler or prove to her team that she deserves to be back with them next season. Either way, Daryl is able to fend off both of them in the end and take the dub, guaranteeing that tomorrow's race will also be his Cup Series debut.

"Man, I'm so pumped for tomorrow. I know a win for me would be a tall order, but you know, I'll still be trying to finish as good as I can and show that I can hold my own in a higher level of competition," he said. "Regarding today, it's a special win too, coming at home, and in spectacular fashion too [Daryl's margin of victory over Gasha was just 0.005 second]. I bet most of the crowd is happy, and if so, that also makes me happy." He will be joining the four members of SSS's technical ally Glorious Free Republic Motorsports as the five Chadwick drivers in the 400. Thea Alvarez wants to stay alive in the Chase and make her fifth appearance in the Cup Series finale in six seasons. Sage Caldwell, though already eliminated, wants to keep building on what has been a vast improvement from his full-time debut last season. Stacie Houston wants to end her impressive run as a substitute driver to husband Jeremiah Brooke on a high note as she moves from his car to the open charter, and Jeremiah himself is eager to show that he's back at full strength after missing the last four races to injury.

Sunday's race turned out to be a mixed bag for the Chads. Daryl was one of those who struggled, finishing 32nd, but then again, it's his first outing against the big boys and girls of the main tier. The other one, surprisingly, was Thea, the defending winner of the race. Running in the top ten with just about twenty laps having gone by, Thea's left front tire burst, followed by the right front. This caused her to drift across the track in an attempt to make a save; she would succeed, but not before almost getting nailed by the other drivers. Also, the incident would cause her to spend more time than she would have wanted to in the pits. In the end, she would settle for 30th, seventh in points among the eight remaining Chasers, but it's still a tight battle as she and the two above her in the standings are both within five points of the cut line.

Image

"That was scary," Thea said, referring to the incident. "I was legit speechless when my tires went and I lost control of my vehicle. Yeah, it's disappointing for me to finish poorly after winning the whole thing last season, but at least I survived, that could have gone much, much worse. Anyway, this battle is not yet over. There's still a chance, and I gotta take it."

A few spots ahead of Thea and Daryl are the two Yeezies running throwback schemes, Sage in 16th and Jeremiah in 17th. The former spoke, "Some of you may look at this performance, this result, and file it under 'not bad'. Sure, okay, but let me be the one to ask this time. Do you think the reason I work my ass off every week is to try and finish 'not bad'? I don't think so." As for the latter, one of the more beloved personalities in the sport, he was bombarded by screaming fans on the way to the media center, but couldn't help and crack a smile. "I really would have wanted a better finish, but other than that, it's good to be home."

"Home as in St. Kanye, or home as in behind the wheel of a race car, on the track?"

"Yes."

After winning in Yangon the previous week, Stacie would continue to shock the racing world, finishing fourth, the highest ever by an open charter user. Interestingly, she was side by side at the line with fellow Cassadagan Maddie Alexander, who was using her old scheme and number and sharing her usual sponsor. Stacie's five-race stint was a very impressive one indeed, with four top tens including one victory, and her only other finish being eleventh, for an average finish of 5.4. She also racked up 212 points to find herself 37th in the standings, better than a bunch of others who have attempted the full season. "I'm really grateful to GFR for this chance. It was fun while it lasted, and I'm okay with it being cut short because that means Jeremiah is fine now. See you next season then, I hope."

The third event of the tripleheader is the second round of iBen's Race of Stars, or iROS. Originally scheduled on Friday, it was rained out and moved to Monday. Jeremiah also returns to his purple #18 ride after having his good friend Abdoulaye Goita fill in during the opener in Togonistan, while Daryl, last season's Everlong runner-up, gets the nod to drive the white #20 as St. Kanye's "local" entry. The two finished eighth and twelfth in the sixteen-car field, respectively; Stacie, after being classified dead last in Togonistan, led the most laps on the way to the dub, while Thea jumped to the points lead after finishing second with the second most laps led as well as the fastest lap.

After that, it's on to Filindostan for the second from last races of both the Multiversal and Everlong series. The Filindos once again prepared several questions for the remaining playoff participants like they did a season ago, leading Jeremiah to remark: "Aww. shame, I kinda liked this part, now if only I was still in the running."

"Yeah, you and Thea made it seem like it was a blast, the way you were talking about it last season," said Sage. "Maybe next season? Well, I certainly hope so."

Here's what Thea had to tell the Filindos during the presser.

Q: Are you feeling any pressure right now for the Elimination Race on Saturday Night?
A: Certainly. The points are very close. Anything can happen. No one is safe, even those at the top, especially since the last two winners have been non-Chasers.

Q: How confident are you on making the Championship Four?
A: With the right amount of hard work and effort, I'd say that this team can make it in.

Q: Who do you think will win on raceday?
A: I'm not saying that I think it would be me, only that I want it to be me. And when you really want something, you gotta work hard to get it, right? And with the right amount..... you know, what I said in response to your other question. Haha.

Q: Are there already plans set for you next season?
A: I'll be back with GFR, of course. Other than that, I hope to run the Berman Bros. Classic again, if they'll have me. And iROS, of course! And AOMC. My agents are also talking with the Girls Will Code people regarding an extension to our sponsorship deal. And they also plan to talk to reps from Masayabee as well, to have them appear as associate for us.

Gongming Gao hurried over to Victory Lane to congratulate Alice on her win. He was happy for her, of course, but it was only after several minutes of revelry that a reporter's question reminded him what the win meant: Alice would have the open charter for the Night Race. They would be racing against each other. Suddenly this race felt a little extra special.

Gao's crew teased him about it, telling him he had to finish higher than Alice so she wouldn't think she could push him around. Even Rinzi Zakhilwal came over to join in the teasing. "You have to beat her. If she finishes ahead of you, she will tell your kids and you will never hear the end of it," Rinzi said.

"Kids? What?" said Gao. "Don't you think you are getting ahead of yourself?"

"Everyone can see what is going on between you two," Rinzi said. "God wills it!"

"Huh???"

"A Muslim woman would not look at you the way she looks at you unless God made her to be your wife," said Rinzi. He gave Gao a playful wink and went off to check on what was happening with his own team.

Before the race, Gao tried to offer Alice some advice. It was mostly obvious things like, "Give Bart Wheeler plenty of room; that guy drives like an idiot," but he thought talking before the race might help them both prepare for it mentally.

Guillermo Archer, the last UrGa driver still in the Chase, answers some questions from the Filindo media.

Are you feeling any pressure right now for the Elimination Race on Saturday Night?

"I mean, pressure is all part of the game we play. There's always pressure to win the next race, to move on to the next stage of the Chase. I would be lying if I said I didn't feel any pressure. I still want to win the Championship, but after the whole team's slump, it's kind of hard to look at us and think we can get through to the Elimination Race. But this is a situation I've found myself in quite a few times. I know how to get there. It's just a matter of the car agreeing with me on how to get there."

How confident are you on making the Championship Four?

"Honestly? I'm not very confident. It's probably not the answer you were hoping for but sometimes, you just gotta say these things. One thing I found that's hard to break in NSSCRA is momentum, and also lack of it. Once your team loses momentum, it's awfully difficult to get it back. And it's doubly true in NSSCRA."

Who do you think will win on raceday?

"I'm gonna go out on a limb here and pick a surprise one. Sage Caldwell. Because why not? God knows the dude deserves it, one of these days."

Are there already plans set for you next season?

"Please refer all personnel-related questions to human resources. Thank you. But in all seriousness, nothing has been decided yet. Nothing has been signed. Nothing has been set in stone. I know that there are a lot of rumors circulating around about UrGa's charters, especially with Duisburg set to enter next season, but until the team says something, I can't say anything. It's in the contract."

(OOC: Apologies for the very short RP but I just want to get something out before I went to sleep. Context for this stuff will come in the next RP.)

The Yoggy Oval, Yogyakulta, Filindostan
Media Day, leading up to the Night Race at the Yoggy
Drake Stevenson and Taylor Henderson sat at a table in the media room, somewhat nervous, facing down the NSSCRA’s traveling media and members of the Filindo media that had congregated for a press conference. The two decided they’d do their media availability together. They had been doing a lot of things together lately, and it seemed as if the two were inseparable since officially getting together weeks before. And now, here they were, next to each other, taking in questions from the media.

The relationship was going quite well, and Taylor was seriously considering moving in with Drake, even though the two hadn’t been together all that long. It was just going that well. The two had each other’s back at all times, and would support each other, no matter what.

“Are you feeling any pressure right now for the Elimination Race on Saturday Night?” a reporter asked.

“A bit,” Drake responded. “But that’s normal. Racing is a high-pressure business, and the best of the best out there know how to handle that pressure. It’s no different from the first time I raced dirt, no different from when I ran HASCAR, no different from WGPC. But we have to respond to that pressure.”

“Pretty much,” Taylor replied. “I’d be lying if I said there was no pressure. We face it from all sides. Our sponsors, our team, our teammates, our rivals, but we have to make the most of it. We’re a top team, and we’re expected to perform at the front of the field every week. That’s pressure too. And if we don’t make it? Honestly, that’s something of a failure.”

“How confident are you on making the championship four?” another reporter asked.

“It’d be nice, I can tell you that much,” Drake said. “Ideally, I’d like to see both Hendo and I in there, but, you see, racing is a highly competitive business. We can just as easily not make it as we can. But it’d be cool. All I can say is that I hope so.”

“I hope so too,” Taylor said. “We can do it, and we can do it well. The two of us have to work together, and we’ll make it. Ideally, I’d like the championship to come down to me and Drake. Wouldn’t that be cool?”

Drake looked at Taylor and shook his head.

“Actually, that scares the hell out of me,” Drake quipped. “Yikes.”

“Who do you think will win on race day?” another reporter asked.

“One of us,” Drake said. “Actually, there’s a lot of guys out there that could win it. If it’s not me or Hendo, I’d hope Chris wins it, because he needs a win, or hell, I’ll just say it, Sage Caldwell. If Sage wins, there’s going to be a lot of guys out there that’ll run out and congratulate him. He’s one of the good ones and he deserves a win.”

“Me,” Taylor replied. “I think I’ve got another win in me this year. Or two. Who knows? But in all seriousness, Drake’s not wrong. Sage deserves one, and he’ll get one sooner rather than later.”

“Are there already plans set for you next season?” a fourth reporter asked.

“Been set in stone since mid-season,” Drake said. “Good Motor Oil, Team Blue, Preston Autos, Super Skychief Mk. II, me, Taylor and Chris. I think the only thing that’s changing is they’re adjusting our paint schemes a bit.”

“My plans? We’re introducing a new blend of coffee next year to coincide with the season opener in Tundra Falls,” Taylor quipped. “We don’t have a name yet, just that we’re introducing a new coffee blend, and I think you all will like it. Since I hear reporters really like coffee, we’ll provide you with free samples when it’s introduced.”

The Team Blue Shuttle, leaving Filindostan
After the Badai Angin Night Race at the Yoggy
On paper, Drake Stevenson and Taylor Henderson weren’t all that impressive on this Saturday night in Filindostan. Both battled ill-handling cars all day. Drake was getting more and more frustrated as the car kept getting loose, and it seemed like nothing that the crew was doing could help him out. The top ten was out of the question, much less the top five or even a race win. Meanwhile, late in the race, a brake duct got knocked loose on Taylor’s car, overheating her brakes and messing up her shot at victory.

But none of it would matter. At the end of the day, Drake and Taylor were two of the Championship Four. The two would battle with each other, Thea Alvarez and Tsering Chu for the biggest prize in international motorsport – the NSSCRA Multiversal Cup Series. So much stood in front of Drake and Taylor, if they could make it. A year’s work culminating in the most glorious title in sports. The culmination of a life’s work. Not just the best in Hapilopper, but the best in the multiverse.

That was not lost on either of them as they flew back to Hapilopper after the race. Neither of the two talked to each other, but they weren’t mad at each other. They were just reflecting on what was coming ahead of them. The media would be all over them until they got to Newmanistan. And the chance of the biggest prize they had ever seen awaited them.

Taylor looked out the window of the plane and thought about the wild turns her career had gone, and all she could think of was those times racing on the short tracks around the Hampton Cities, perhaps the roughest place to grow up in racing anywhere, where drivers slammed into each other on the track, and fought each other off the track, where a well-timed bump might just lead to you having to duck a wrench thrown at your head. A handful of drivers came from the Hampton Cities to the big leagues in Hapilopper, but none had made it to the level that Taylor had, even in spite of all the crap she dealt with. All the sexism. All the dirty driving. All the bullshit.

Taylor looked straight ahead as she thought about the crap she had to deal with in the Hampton Cities. How it seemed like her car would get inspected a little bit more thoroughly than anyone else’s. How nobody would plausibly believe that a woman – and a teenage woman at that – could beat the men at their own game. How it seemed like her rear bumper was more of a target than anyone else’s. Not to mention the crap she dealt with in HASCAR. How when she got her first wins, everyone believed she had to have cheated. And even in the NSSCRA, how Chet Byrd tried to get her fired. The “dumpling” incident in TJUN-ia.

But you know? In the NSSCRA, that was it. She had such a great support system in Team Blue and in the NSSCRA. She felt like she could tell Drake Stevenson anything, and he wouldn’t tell anyone else. She felt like she had allies in Chris Holmes, Amanda McAlister, Frank Bronson, and the rest of the team. She felt she had allies on the track, too – in people like Thea Alvarez, the Valentians, and others. In the NSSCRA, she felt like she was home, at a place where she could go out there, kick ass, and not worry about any consequences. She could let her hair down, settle down and drop her old “kill or be killed” mindset.

She couldn’t help, though, but think about the Hampton Cities. How all the drivers there were sure to talk oh, so glowingly about how she raced on the short tracks there. How all the drivers would gush about how lucky they were to run against her. The same ones that threw a wrench at her. The same ones that tried to wreck her. The same ones that would wad up her equipment on lap one after she had spent the last two evenings trying to rebuild it on two hours of sleep combined.

Fuck ‘em, Taylor thought. I’m here and they’re not.

On the other side of the plane, Drake was looking out another window, thinking about his life and the roller-coaster ride it had gone on. The HASCAR titles. Flying out of the ballpark on two separate occasions in dirt late models. Getting a ride with Eelandii VTGP. Nearly winning the Vilitan Grand Prix. The debacle with Nexus Racing. The Chase Cutter. Struggling to fit in in the Nexus Wardship.

Maybe that was the low moment, because things started to change. He returned to Team Blue, and eventually he got the ride he should have had the whole time. His confidence came back. The results were showing. And then, on a cold Sunday in September in Hapilopper City, Drake found himself behind Kai Qiang with five laps to go in the Super Skychief 500. All he had to do was make one pass, and he did exactly that, sliding past the best in the world on the outside.

The wild scene that followed – the crowd mobbing the track, the jubilant parties all through the night – was something that nobody could ever forget. And it got better from there. The regular-season championship. Drake made the Chase the next season. Front-running finishes soon followed. A huge victory in Xanneria. And now, the Champ 4.

All he had to do was win in Newmanistan – or hell, finish ahead of Hendo, Thea and Chu. If he could do THAT, and that alone, the trophy would be his. He’d be a NSSCRA Champion. Any idea of him being a WGPC reject, some bum who couldn’t get the job done in a Chase Cutter, that would be out the window. Now all they’d say about him was that he was a champion. But before he could get too excited, he looked over towards Taylor.

Hendo.

What would happen if it came to me and her? Jesus Fuck, what would happen?

Just the idea of the NSSCRA title coming down to him and Taylor made Drake incredibly nervous. If he took it from her on the last lap, would she ever speak to him again? Would this relationship with this lady, this lady that was just so wonderful in every way, would it be ruined in Newmanistan? Would she storm off, tell him to get out of her life and never speak to her again? Or would she understand, knowing that she had more shots left than he did?

Drake put his head down and worried about it. Taylor looked over at Drake and moved over his way.

“You good, D?” Taylor asked.

“No,” Drake replied through a heavy breath. “When we get home… we need to talk.”

Taylor sadly nodded her head. She hated the phrase “we need to talk” with an absolute passion. It meant something terrible was about to happen. But Drake turned things around almost as quickly as those words came out of his mouth.

“We need to talk about the championship,” Drake said. “Not about us, don’t worry.”

“Please don’t say those words, Drake,” Taylor said softly and shaking with a genuine fear in her voice. “Every time I hear ‘we need to talk,’ it makes me think I’m splitting up with someone again.”

“No,” Drake said. “I don’t want to split up. I think you’re the best person I’ve ever met in my life. But I need reassurance that what happens won’t get between us.”

Drake sat up and looked at Taylor right in the eye.

“I want you to be in my life forever,” Drake started. “And quite frankly, you know how we are. We’re two highly competitive people. You came from the wild fucking west. I came from dirt. And we’re going for a championship, both of us, very soon. What scares me is this idea that it’ll come down to the two of us, one of us beats the other and it hurts us. I want you in my life forever, all this be damned. What worries me, Tay, is one of us beats the other and it sours us. And eventually… you know?”

Taylor looked down and nodded her head. She was at least relieved that Drake wasn’t giving that kind of talk. He was speaking out of serious concern for their relationship. Because he loved her so much. And because she loved him so much, she completely understood.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we got to it, but we’ve got to be bigger than this,” Taylor said after thinking about it. “I want you in my life forever too, and I’d like to think there’s a life beyond racing. Beyond a championship. Beyond a trophy. You and me.”

“Yeah,” Drake said. “I like that.”

“Me too,” Taylor replied.

Chase 3-3(2): And Then There Was 4

The Badai Angin Night Race at the Yoggy was always going to be interesting, what with 4 JR cars in action and the battle for the Championship 4 going down to the wire, but what we ended up with was certainly an interesting night. Here's what went down and I'll even add a little JR Sweepstakes on who we think could win it all next week.

Let's start with Alice Jepkosgei (@AJ96), who was starting this race from 46th in the #74 after her victory in the Everlong on Friday. Gongming Gao was quick to try and give her some advice before this momentous day (how nice of him) and for a first race, she wasn't too bad at all. She was always getting out of trouble and while it was quiet overall, finishing in 35th in her first Cup race wasn't too bad at all. Her finish meat that 6 TJUN-ians have taken part in a cup series race (Stefan, Mercado, Maddy, Robin, Batu and AJ), a record-shattering number that certainly shows our racing development is certainly bearing fruit, but her race was also notable for another reason: the radio. Every few laps, she would ask her engineer about the progress of Gao over the course of the race. The way she did it was something like this:
AJ: How's GaoGao doing?
AJ: Where's GaoGao?
AJ: Is GaoGao ahead?
JR: Yes AJ, "GaoGao" is ahead in P18
AJ: OK, thank you!

Ok. First of all, this is cute as fuck and I will protect it with my own life. No doubt, I will. Second of all, I don't know if "GaoGao" knew he was being called that over the course of this race...which makes this even funnier! He finished in 20th by the way, with Kyoko Fujisaki finishing in 36th in the #36. Alfonso Mercado (@AM64) started the best of the Big 3 in 11th but car trouble forced him to finish in 33rd while Maddison Riley-Jones (@MaddyRJ03) started 24th and finished in 11th. It was a good race from MRJ but with Maddie Alexander finishing in 4th, it looks like ROTY will indeed go to the Tropicorp driver.

This race was bonkers, with only 3 retirements and a lot of overtakes as the battles waged on, but in the end, it was Thea Alvarez who claimed her spot with victory over Gwen Tracer Allison Oxton and Michael Stefan (@Stefan07). Yes, Stefan got 3rd in this race and made it back to the podium once again, the first time since the breakdown a few weeks ago. He certainly seemed happier out there and even managed to thank Thea in person for the support she gave him back in the bad times. Gil Archer finished 5th but that wasn't enough as he, Anastasia Freya Yadana Aye, Yraaga Gilli'i and Kai Qiang were eliminated tonight. If it's Hapilopper vs Saint Kanye in the Everlong, then here it is Hapilopper vs Saint Kanye vs The Sherpa Empire. Hendo vs Drake vs Thea vs Chu. All 4 deserve it but who will claim it all? We shall head back to Newmanistan to decide this once and for all.

Can Drake get the title Hap Media claimed was his all along? Can Hendo swipe it from her BF and stamp out the sexists in style? Can Thea do what Brooke did and use Yeezie magic to claim the crown? Will Chu do the unthinkable and not only become the first deaf champion but form the first true power couple with Qinag since the days of old? Three must come short so that one can rise. We shall watch this with great interest of course. I shall leave you with the song AJ chose and the predictions we all made. Good luck to you all and may the odds be ever in your favour...

Kai Qiang knew he needed a good result tonight. As the cars lined up in their starting positions and puttered along behind the pace car, he thought of the Taoist teachings that talked about non-ado, not overthinking things. He didn't need to put pressure on himself to do well. He just needed to do well. Just let it happen.

The pace car cleared the way, the flag man brought out the green flag, and everyone took off. Qiang worked his way up from 20th into the top 15 without too much difficulty, but then he was battling Jenna Logan when they accidentally bumped harder than either of them intended. The cars were not heavily damaged, but they went awkwardly sliding across the track. Other drivers swerved to avoid them, and several cars rushed past. Qiang cussed up a blue streak in Vietnamese as he turned his car back in the right direction and got back up to speed. So much for the Taoist ideals of non-ado and effortless success.

Now, instead of trying to climb from his midpack starting position, he had to do it from near the back of the field. Qiang didn't think Logan had spun him out on purpose -- it was a genuine accident -- but he was still pissed off.

He had to swerve to avoid a collision with Bart Wheeler, which cost him more time and triggered another round of cussing.

"Qiang, calm down, you can still do this," Chang said over the radio.

Qiang stopped cussing, but he was still in a foul mood. He used his bumper more aggressively than usual, having no patience for anyone who got in his way as he tried to fight his way back to the front. He regained some of the positions he'd lost when he spun, but it was nowhere near enough. He finished 25th and he fell to 8th place in points. His car was beat to hell by the time he crossed the finish line, and Qiang was in no mood to answer questions about how it felt to get eliminated or why he had shoved Liangmei Li with 3 laps to go. The reporters kept pestering him with their questions until he finally answered the one about Li: "She was in my way, and that's it. Why do you have to turn everything into some big drama?"

Rinzi Zakhilwal was having a good day. He was 6th at the white flag, but then his spotter told him Tsering Chu was coming up behind him. He knew Tsering was fighting for a place in the championship, and he wasn't sure about the positions of her Chase rivals. He pulled over and let her pass without a fight.

Tsering herself had lost track of some of the other Chasers because she was focused on her own driving. The jerry-rigged system she used to communicate with her crew (since she couldn't use a traditional radio system) was too difficult to ask for frequent updates on the positions of rival drivers. She squealed with delight and hugged the nearest person from her crew when she found out she had made the final 4. She hugged Rinzi too when he came over to congratulate her.

It was only after a few minutes of celebrating that she realized Qiang had been eliminated. She wasn't sure what to say to him or how to feel about it. If he hadn't flopped tonight, he probably would have taken her place in the final 4, and she would be the one missing out.

Qiang came over looking tired and beaten down. He forced a smile, put his arms around Tsering, and buried his face in her thick black hair. She hugged him back and they just stood there holding each other... Maybe it was better not to say anything, not to risk saying the wrong thing and hurting each other's feelings.

The next morning when the sting of defeat wasn't so raw, Qiang told Tsering it was her patriotic duty to kick some ass in the season finale. Tsering giggled shyly and they talked a little about the season.

"I bet Chet Byrd feels pretty dumb," Tsering signed. Qiang looked confused. "Remember how he wanted to fire Hendo?"

Qiang smiled and nodded as he got what Tsering was talking about. "He was definitely wrong about that one." He stood up and went over to the counter to get the steamer where their breakfast was cooking, and he carried the steamer out to the table. He lifted the lid, releasing a big cloud of steam and revealing the freshly steamed xiaolongbao. "Now, these are the sweet little dumplings that I love!"

Tsering snorted and reached for her chopsticks. She loved xiaolongbao too.

Mendok Sherpa was eating lunch by herself, slurping tsampa and beef stew while a Punjabi folk-metal song blasted from the speakers on the other side of the room. INN news played on the TV with the volume turned down and closed captioning on. Since Tsering always had captions on anyway, Mendok had gotten in the habit of using them. By reading the captions, she didn't need the sound, and she could listen to music and watch TV at the same time without missing anything important.

It felt weird that she'd been spending so much time alone recently. Qiang, Tsering, and the kids were away in Filindostan; Qiang's sister had moved away; Arjun Bhandari (Qiang's business partner at Flying Fish Taxi) had gone to Nepal to look after an older relative whose health was failing; and Temba, her friend that she often met for lunch, had gone to Wuchang to help out in the hospitals there. Even the defiant chorus of the song she was listening to could not dispel her loneliness and the feeling that she was missing all the action. The images and captions on the TV painted a grim picture of the situation in Wuchang, and across the border. Although the Sherpa Empire was still reporting far more coronavirus infections than China, the cases in far-flung Northern cities like Changchun and Taiyuan filled Mendok with a sense of creeping dread. Those cities were beyond the reach of the Sherpa Ministry of Health, and if the virus spread out of control in the North, it would be almost impossible to prevent it from spilling back across the Yangtze into border cities like Nanjing or Chongqing.

Mendok might not be able to fix everything, but she could at least do something! She didn't want to just passively sit on the sidelines while other people did everything important. She needed to go to Wuchang...

Gongming Gao's mom was having a bit of a meltdown.

She was convinced that the Wuchang coronavirus was a bioweapon created by the Sherpa military and leaked intentionally or accidentally. Although there were more infections in the Sherpa Empire than any other country, it had not spread to ethnically Sherpa parts of the Empire, and she thought they were entirely capable of committing genocide against the Chinese populace in Wuchang. As to why they would specifically target Wuchang, and not let the virus loose in larger cities like Nanjing or Guangzhou... she hadn't really thought about that. (Of course, it was all conspiracy-mongering nonsense, and the virus was not an actual Sherpa bioweapon.)

She had also stumbled across Alice Jepkosgei's radio chatter from the Night Race at the Yoggy, which racing fans had been sharing around because they thought it was cute. Gao's mom did not think it was cute. She called Gao and had an angry conversation where she demanded to know, "Are you still dating that black yangniu?"

"Who are you calling 'yangniu'?" Gao spat back. "She's a foreigner, not a piece of livestock!" (Yangniu is a racist and sexist slur that literally means cow.)

Gao told his parents he was planning to go to TJUN-ia and spend some time with Alice at the end of the NSSCRA season, and it went over like a lead balloon. His mother told him he absolutely had to come home, and he wasn't allowed to spend the offseason anywhere else.

"Mom, you just spent, like, 20 minutes ranting about how the Wuchang virus is a bioweapon and it's going to kill us all," said Gao. "The virus is already in Lanzhou, but there aren't any cases in TJUN-ia."

"That's not why you're going!" Gao's mom protested.

"I know that's not why I'm going," said Gao. "I'm going because I want to spend time with Alice. But you're not making sense. First you tell me the virus is going to kill us all, and then you tell me I need to come home where I'll be closer to the virus. So which is it? You're not making any sense."

Gao's mother started to complain more, but his father intervened. "Son, if you are going to have a relationship with this woman, you have to do it the right way," Gao's father said. "I don't want you to be like those people that live together and have sex, but they won't get married, and they pretend they can have love without making a commitment. If you love her, you have to be serious and do it the right way."

"WHAT??? You're encouraging him!" Gao's mom yelled in the background, and they started arguing back and forth.

"Argh! Why can't you just let me live my life?" Gao blurted into his phone.

Guillermo Archer had tried to inject some humor into the situation while the Filindo media was interviewing him (along with the other drivers still in the Chase) but lately, his mood had just seemed to be on the down. And it wasn’t just Gil as well. Everyone else in the UrGa camp was feeling down. Everyone had been feeling down ever since Dinggu Wang had been knocked out of the Chase back in the second race in Sword Island. Wang had the most reason to be saddened by his own elimination, but for some reason that sadness had spread to the rest of the team. Perhaps it was because everyone understood that this was most probably Wang’s last shot at winning the NSSCRA Championship, and through no fault of his own at all, he had been knocked out of the running. Nobody could help it; it was just the nature of the beast that was motorsports. But that didn’t stop everyone feeling sorry for the old man.

It didn’t help that there were rumors that Wang’s contract would not be renewed for next season. Rumors about underperforming drivers getting axed were nothing new, but what stung about these particular rumors were that they were coming from within the organization itself. The boss lady, Olga Gatutina, had been doing everything in her power to deny those rumors and keep Wang with the team. And then came that moment after the Guangxi Telecom 400 when Gatutina confronted that tall and shifty politician type who always seemed to be in the background of both the stock car and open-wheeler operations of UrGa, Yurievsky or whatever his name was, and demanded to know why he had agreed to sell what was supposed to be Wang’s charter for next season to Duisburg. Obviously, Gil wasn’t there when the argument happened, but word spread quickly throughout the team about the details of the conversation, and this was what Gil had gathered from it: Gatutina wanted to know why Yurievsky had decided to sell one of UrGa’s charters to their rivals Duisburg. Yurievsky had said that the board had decided that Gatutina had had more than enough time to make Dinggu Wang a NSSCRA champion, and now that time had run out so it was time to move on from him. Gatutina then insinuated that Yurievsky had pulled more than a few favors to get the board to agree with him about Wang so that he could finally force the charter sale through, and Yurievsky retorted with something along the lines of, “If you can’t make him a champion with both Cärinthen and Archer then you won’t ever make him a champion at all!”

The sad part of it was, while it may have been harsh, it was also true. Being a consistent top 10 driver (like Wang was before the playoffs came around) was one thing, but to truly be considered among the title favorites then Wang had to be consistent not just in the top 10 but for race wins as well. And as Wang had shown this season, things really had to fall in just the right place for him to even be in contention. His win in Sankyoku looked more and more like a one-off thing, and no matter what he or the team did, they just couldn’t recapture that one magical moment where everything that they had been doing to make this old man from Pharak a champion had been worth it.

Once everyone found out that it was Wang who was being forced out of the team, morale just simply plummeted. The team had genuinely grown fond of the man, even if he still spoke Chinese more often than not and generally spent more time to himself than hanging out and chatting with the rest of the team. Everyone understood that once Wang’s contract ran out this season, the chances of him getting another one were slim to none. It was just the way things were. Wang may have both experience in two teams and two wins under his belt going for him, but he also had a lot of things against him, mainly his age and poor playoff form. There was every chance in the world that this season was the last that NSSCRA and maybe even motorsports had seen of Dinggu Wang. It was a shame, and yet it also seemed inevitable, which was what saddened many in the team. They were witnessing what was possibly the end of a racing career, and there was just nothing that they could do about it.

Even Gil was feeling the general malaise of the team with regards to the Wang situation. He wouldn’t claim to have known Wang personally, but Gil couldn’t help but admit that he had been taken in completely by Gatutina’s mission to make Wang one of the oldest, if not the oldest NSSCRA champion there was. Gil had told everybody that he might just take advantage of the situation if Wang slipped up, but more often than not Gil found himself helping Wang by giving him a push to help the Chinese Sherpalander get past other drivers. But then Wang crashed out of the Chase, and there was just no point in the whole thing anymore. Sure, Gil was still in the Chase, but surprisingly for him, he just couldn’t get his heart into it. Maybe it was because he recognized that this was most probably Wang’s last ride, or at least Wang’s last ride in a decently competitive car. Gil just couldn’t get himself into the swing of things for the Terrific Twelve and the Elite Eight, and that definitely cost him in his attempt to finagle his way into the Final Four. The one-lap pace was there, but as far as racecraft was concerned, he was just getting swallowed up.

It also didn’t help that Gil’s protege in the Everlong Contenders Series, Rustam Yudin, was also beginning to decline, and that Gil knew exactly why Rustam was declining. The young Ceroatian had made his way to Gil after that devastating weekend in Fredericksburg, Sword Island, and confided in him that he had feelings for his teammate Agata Kosaryova. Rustam also revealed that he had made a deal (or maybe it was a promise) that he would help Gasha move up through the field at Everlong and maybe even get a race win. Gil had tried to caution Rustam about doing this, and while he was happy that Rustam had finally come out of his shell and was talking to people other than his fellow Ceroatians, Gil also reminded Rustam that the latter was still in the running for the Everlong Championship, and that Rustam shouldn’t take unnecessary risks to help Gasha along in the competition. But of course Rustam didn’t listen. The Ceroatian had become so caught up in his personal mission to give his teammate a race win that he forgot about the big picture. Rustam fell further down the places until it was finally confirmed at the end of the Descension Girls Will Code 350 that he had been knocked out of the Championship Four along with Jixaka Motorai, Bryan Harrison, and Robin Dragonovic.

And as soon as these thoughts had formed in his mind, Gil shook his head at them. He had always been a proponent of finding that delicate but healthy balance between life and racing, but now here he was mentally berating a subordinate for thinking with his heart instead of his brain. He couldn’t even blame Rustam for doing it. Rustam still had a lengthy racing career ahead of him and definitely would find his way back into championship contention, while Gasha was most definitely on the older side of things and might not have many more chances of getting that first NSSCRA win. All Gil could really find fault for was the fact that Rustam chose to do it right in the middle of the playoffs where poor results could mean the difference between making it and getting knocked out instead of in the regular season where, after he had won the second race of the season, Rustam was basically locked in to the Chase.

And then there was that bombing in Filindostan that killed a number of Filindo crewmen and even a WGP3 driver. Hearing about that news immediately reminded Gil of just how fleeting life was, and how most of the time nobody gets to choose to go on their own terms. He had always believed that the normal human mind didn’t wake up every day thinking that that specific day was going to be its last, even when he was going almost two hundred miles per hour around and around an oval track. But that had all changed once the doctor had found that tumor in Gil’s head.

He had just gone for his annual preseason check-up, and the tumor had simply popped up in the CT scan. After further tests, it was determined that the tumor in Gil’s head was the one that was asymptomatic, meaning that no one looking at Gil from the outside could tell that he was sick. But just because it was asymptomatic now didn’t mean that symptoms couldn’t pop up later. One of those potential symptoms was a seizure, and with Gil’s career involving driving a car round and round at almost two hundred miles per hour, the doctor had strongly recommended that Gil consider retirement because driving around in a race track was perhaps one of the worst times to have a seizure. Gil said that he would consider retirement, but in the end he decided to continue racing anyway, mostly because he had done some research on the type of tumor that he had (a meningioma) and saw that most cases of it didn’t produce any symptoms at all, but also because he had already signed the contract with UrGa when he received the diagnosis, and as he always liked to say, he was a man of his word.

That was why Gil had been fine with UrGa potentially having to sell one of their charters to Duisburg for next season. He had thought that UrGa would hang on to both Wang and Wilma von Cärinthen for Season 12, and thus he was fine with his charter being sold because he knew that this season could very well be his last in NSSCRA. But then the UrGa board decided that they wouldn’t extend Wang’s contract for yet another season, and now Olga Gatutina was offering him the one-season extension. Gil had managed to delay the contract talks for a few races, but now that the end of the season was looming, Gatutina had become more insistent on tying him down to a new contract. So Gil had no choice but to drop the bombshell on her once they finally got together to talk.

“So that’s why you’ve been avoiding our contract talks this past month,” Gatutina said once Gil had explained everything to her. “I don’t know what surprises me more, the fact that you’re only telling me this now or that you’ve managed to keep this a secret for this long.”

“Trust me, ma’am, I’m just as surprised as you are that I’m still here,” Gil said with a wry smile.

“Mr. Archer, I know that you have a slightly annoying habit of making light of a lot of serious things, but I really think that you should take this matter seriously!” Gatutina said. “We are talking about not just your health but the health of everyone else who is on the same track as you!”

“Don’t you think I know that too?” Gil asked back, his voice now carrying a hint of anger. “Do you know how many times a day I keep praying that nothing happens to me out there so nothing bad happens to everyone else? Ma’am, you tell me to take this tumor of mine seriously and I am telling you that I have never been more serious in my life! I’m more serious now than I’ve ever been, even while chasing my titles! Don’t you think I wish that I didn't have a tumor at all in the first place? Don’t you know how hard it is to drive and fight for the title, or even just a win, knowing that I’ve got a ticking time bomb inside my skull?”

To her credit, Gatutina just sat there listening while Gil went on his short tirade. Once he had finally stopped to catch his breath, the two of them sat in silence for a few moments before Gatutina finally broke it. “I guess this finally explains your outburst against Gao in Hapilopper,” she muttered.

“No, I still accept full responsibility for what happened there,” Gil said softly. “Gao had no way of knowing what could have happened. I also could have chosen to call him other things.”

“So this is why you’ve been delaying your contract talks? Because you were not sure that you wanted to continue for one more season?” Gatutina asked.

“That’s about it,” Gil nodded. “After everything that’s happened this season, and especially after that bombing in Filindostan, I’m finally convinced that I’ve run my luck as far as I could take it, and that it’s now time for me to bow out while I’m still on top.”

“At least now I finally understand your decision to bow out for a second time,” Gatutina muttered. “But now who am I going to get into that second car?”

“Well, ma’am, you’re just in luck,” Gil said, his smile now back on his face. “I happen to know just the perfect guy.”

Guillermo Archer finished the Badai Angin Night Race at the Yoggy in fifth place, a decent improvement from starting in 16th, but sadly it wasn’t enough to carry him through to the Championship Four. In a sense, it was too little too late. If only he had finished fifth in all of the other races before this then maybe the playoff picture would be a bit different. But in a weird sense, getting eliminated also brought with a sense of relief, as if Gil could finally kick back and relax and not worry about another thing anymore. While the media surrounded the Championship Four of Thea Alvarez, Drake Stevenson, Taylor Henderson, and Tsering Chu, Gil simply contented himself with looking around the Yoggy Oval, taking in the sights and the sounds, keenly aware that this could be the second to the last race of his NSSCRA career. ‘It was nice knowing you, Yoggy,” he muttered under his breath, and he pushed himself away from his car to make the short walk back to his garage.

But Guillermo Archer had barely taken a single step before he suddenly felt light-headed, and the last thing he saw before blacking out was the tarmac of the pit area rushing towards his face.
