Geektopia WC Uru Information ǂ Each WC cycle now seniors a Geektopian person by 306.36 years, instead of a ludicrous, uncalculated 300. Minimum and maximum ages for footy players from the country are 1,656 through 4,140. These minimums and maximums lie roughly between 4,232 and 6,440 regarding managers (this meaning that Dingledine in WCQ88 was as old as Australia iirc).

• #6 Germaine Sophie (Midfielder, 2123 years) [NP — An ex-gridiron player who is mostly known for how mindbogglingly stupid his post-game interviews in the World Bowl competitions of old came off as. His aggressiveness and playing style are a perfect showcase of how Sophie doesn't run it through before he acts. Although there is a difference when seeing someone having a natural talent for the creative and the unpredictable as opposed to making unconventional and idiotic blunders on the pitch, Germaine Sophie possesses both of these characteristics.] [1T]
• #7 Abdill (Midfielder/Forward, 2723 years) [1T]
• #8 Matkowski (Midfielder, 2723 years) [NP — Went to a training camp because of self-confidence issues and is now the primary choice for throw-ins. From Matkowski's impressive progress, he unknowingly coerced Dingledine that the more powerful a throw-in was, the more important to know who threw it in the first place. Looking into Matkowski's personal record, it's thirty five yards, at least ten more than the second longest distance by another countryman, Julio.] [1T]

Almost never gets injured.] [1T]

• #28 Ogrodowski (Defender, 2198 years) [3T]
• #29 Diminno (Midfielder/Defender, 2498 years) [NP — Isn't as mouthy as before, but Diminno's teammates and colleagues miss the whimsical, childish motivational advice he gave to others as if a talking jokebook. An element of happiness was taken from the team when newly appointed manager and workout expert Hojnacki told "Dimi", as his compatriots call him, to "straighten up".] [1T]
• #30 Ponti (Midfielder, 2423 years) [NP — A masterful appraiser in a time period that old, knowledgeable Geektopians call "The Summing-up Span" which was an era of great economical scandal that endured from the late fifty two hundreds to sometime in the late five thousands, the Geektopia Thin Green Line (GTGL) scouted and recruited a handful of great and applauded appraisers who were then honing their craft on the street from all corners of the country, thus creating a one hundred and ten man security system that would efficiently suss out tarnished replicas of import items, thereafter each appraiser would be assigned a mission to sell these items in smaller countries for one and a half times the import price. Ponti was one of these famed one hundred and ten. These days, instead of doing the appraising, he's being appraised by the lowly fitness coach Hojnacki as to see whether he can make it into a pool of eleven positions!] [1T]

• #32 Knake (Goalkeeper, 3323 years) [3T]
• #33 Pitter (Midfielder, 2873 years) [NP — Up one file from a ball-sweeping defender to a ball-sweeping midfielder, Pitter made and adjusted to the change as soon as he was asked to by his manager who also holds one secondary job as a fitness coach.] [1T]
• #34 Jakius Krutiqayir Tarun (Forward, 3378 years) [2T]
• #35 Ratter (Defender, 2048 years) [3T] [NP — Down one file from a midfielder to a well positioned defender. The gaffer, as well as adjusting positions spryly, adjusted the hell out of Ratter's attitude when he first opposed the move, only after understanding that his shift of posture was essential to keeping the faith regarding one familiar 3-4-3 formation played throughout the last three years of World Cup Qualifying was Ratter able to be punctual in training sessions.

The Coaching Search- who will replace the Hall of Famer as the manager for Banija's national team?

BUSUKUMA, NATIONAL CAPITOL REGION- It is a strange time to be a fan of the Kadongo Kamu. For the first time in 10 World Cup cycles, the Royal Banijan Soccer Association is embarking on a search to find its next manager, our next head coach. At this point, a whole generation of fans simply equate this Equestrian with the national team. Players come and go. Gitonga Kahara's entire career has come and gone. Kuma Bultum. All sorts of superstars, have played their careers with the national team, and then retired. Nearly 3 decades with the same man on the touchline. How many other managers from World Cup 80 were still managing their team in World Cup 80 Qualifying? Very few, if any at all.

The one constant in sports, of course, is change. We are human- nothing lasts forever, and that is true in this sport. We've seen it at the domestic league. We simply had state leagues for the longest team, until the BSL was created. The BSL was the only game in town, a fixed, 20 team league, until promotion and relegation was added. Busoga was Banijan, until it wasn't. The BSL was a top-flight league, until the S-FPL was created. Kitara Athletic Association was the club who could never win a trophy- until they stunned the world and won the S-FPL, and then became the first Basin club to ever win the IFCF Champions League, in back to back seasons. And if Eura can miss a World Cup after making 27 in a row, then Waters term would eventually come to an end.

Don't be sad about how it ended- even though it ended with 28 points in the final 10 games, which were not enough to even make the Playoff. Be glad that it happened. 3 major trophies this decade- World Cup 86 being the highest among those, but also AOCAF 64 was a great feat. Eagle's Cup VIII- fantastic. Three more World Cup semifinal appearances as well, with two bronze medals. He made us a fixture at the World Cup, participating in 9 World Cups in a row. Hell, this is the sixth consecutive Qualifying cycle where we were in the top 6 of the KPB rankings- making us a fixture in Pot 1 at the World Cup- although, of course, this time around we didn't even make the World Cup to take advantage of a place in Pot 1. There is some sort of a nod of respect when you are the highest ranked team ever to miss the World Cup Finals- especially when Waters basically did all the work to get us there in the first place.

Don't worry, this magazine will surely dig into the discussions that the RBSA are having, and why we missed the World Cup- and whether this was a fluke or this was a troubling pattern for the future. The lack of development of our youth national teams, the lack of Banijan players getting opportunities for our domestic teams, our struggle to get dual-nationals to commit to Banija, etc... But that is not what we are doing today. Today, we are going to go through the probable candidates for this job. Who will replace Marcus Waters as the head of the RBSA?

#1 The odds-on favorite- Pamela Scott(CBP)

Pam Scott has been living the good life in the Ankole Region, as a former coach. She is a former manager of both the Baker Park and Farfadillis national teams, two teams with about as opposite cultures as it gets. But both her experience as a manager, and what she does now, have to make her the favorite to get the job.

What she does now, you ask? She stopped with the Farfadillis national team after World Cup 88. Since then, the 51 year old has spent the last season serving as a studio analyst for the Shango-Fogoa Premier League, on the overseas broadcast package. Clips and highlights of her have gone viral in Banija, as she is renowned for her in-depth analysis of the national team. "She's, frankly, the best TV analyst this country has ever seen." Said one anonymous TV executive from a rival network. "She not only has the in-depth knowledge of the game to see what is happening, and analyze things quickly- but her ability to break down tactics, and to do so in layman's terms, is a great plus for the league. It's already an elite league, but overseas TV broadcasting is about more than just what's on the field- it is about presentation, it is about your ability to understand the game. What an asset she is on that front."

She, of course, will not stay for long. She's got club offers from both Kingsgrove in Brenecia and Farrenton Athletic in Eura. Despite all of her experience, she's only 51- she's too young to leave the game. Sources around her say the Mayuto resident has an itch to return to the game, and look at this opportunity. RBSA Execs can drive to her house and interview her there. She's got a connection to the local domestic game, and to NT fans, which is always a plus. And plus, look at her accomplishments on the senior level. When she led Baker Park, she was their first manager. She led them to a Baptism of Fire Final(right here in Banija!), and third place at AOCAF 58. For Farfadillis, she led them to the World Cup 86 Semifinals, in the midst of bringing an overhaul to a national team with an emphatic attacking identity. And, of course, her biggest accomplishment- qualifying Baker Park to the World Cup on their first ever(and second and third ever) try.

But her strengths go beyond that. She's a former college coach. Some may say, so? But Banija is a nation that has great respect for the college game, especially on the women's side. As the conversations expand on the game in Banija and this Qualification failure, many would assume she'd be a defender of the college game in Banija. She's known to give the youth a chance- with youth development in the country under particular scrutiny, she'd be expected to find and give many more opportunities to young players, and coaches, looking to break through. And of course, she understands high expectations, having managed Farfadillis after they won the World Cup. The expectations will be high in Banija, as well. And her relative youth- if the RBSA want a coach they can grab for 10 more cycles, Pam being 51 can certainly be that woman.

All that makes her the favorite. But she's far from the only candidate- a lot of people are putting their name forward. This is, of course, not a job that opens up often. Who else could become manager?

#2 The Prodigal Son returns home- Quebecois NT manager George Wangolo

He's the highest ranking Banijan on this list. The odds are, it has to be either him or Pam Scott to take this NT, right? Let's talk about George Wangolo a little bit. He, of course, is from Banija. Famously, there has not been a Banijan manager that has ever won a game for this national team. And despite us being around for 16 cycles, we've had just four managers- and the only Banijan manager had 14 losses and a draw, throughout Qualifying and the Baptism of Fire.

So hiring him would mean that we'd finally have a Banijan in charge of the NT. But it would mean much more than that. It'd be hiring a familiar face, somebody who is steeped in the culture of this national team, somebody who knows what it means to wear the shirt. The longtime national team starter, at centerback, played in World Cup 76, 77, 79, and 80 Qualilfying- being a starter for parts of 4 Qualifying cycles. We, of course, did not enter World Cup 78 Qualifying, or else it would have been five. He was the first Banijan to ever been longlisted on the Galacticos index, being an anchor for Blue Coast 1981's defense when the Port Christopher Super League still existed. He also played for East Han FC in the Abaja Premier League as well, and, of course, served as the national team's captain in World Cup 79 Qualifying.

Is there a more tried and true path to becoming national team manager, than being a former captain of the national team? While he did not go to World Cup 80 itself, the man was a longtime influential member of that back line. And he's served as a coach in the national team program. He was the assistant for a few years under Marcus Waters, including being the lead assistant when Banija won World Cup 86. He also served as the senior manager for Banija's U21 national team, and led the squad to a U21 World Cup title, winning the 47th Di Bradini Cup. And then, took over the Quebec national team. He has made them consistent fixtures at the World Cup.

And did we mention? He's Banijan. We haven't had a homegrown manager for the NT since World Cup 73 Qualifying. He, of course, has a job. But that's not expected to be an issue. "We have an excellent relationship with Quebecois sporting authorities." A RBSA source said, who wasn't authorized to speak on the matter. "If we hire him and Quebec go to the World Cup, he'll coach the World Cup with Quebec, and then Kausu Gassama(the current assistant manager) would coach the Cup of Harmony on an interim basis. If we hire him and Quebec go to the Cup of Harmony, he'd probably come right away. It's functionally a non-issue."

Those are the two lead favorites. But there are other candidates. Let's go through the list?

#3 Nathan Hanifer(Sarzonia)- Former NT manager for Sarzonia

Now, he is a bit less proven than the two managers above, but that isn't expected to be a problem for the RBSA. Why would it be? The RBSA is not afraid of taking a risk. The Marcus Waters hire was certainly a risk, although at the time we were not ranked in the top 6, so we had less of a choice of managers. But still- we had a solid choice. A lot of good things have been said about Hanifer.

One benefit for him, of course, is that he has direct experience in the youth game. Managing two U21 World Cups for Sarzonia, he went to the knockout stages of that tournament both times. The U21 World Cup is notorious for being one of the toughest tournaments in the world to manage. Under 21s can be tough to deal with, many of them facing that kind of pressure for the first time in their lives. And the sheer randomness of a Di Bradini Cup- scouting and such is much harder on the youth level than on the senior level. So any sort of consistent success at that level is great to be praised.

And then, he has senior NT experience as well. He spent one cycle managing Sarzonia, this World Cup 89 Qualifying cycle. His squad notched a win over Græntfjall on the final day of World Cup Qualifying. But taking a team ranked 88th all the way to the World Cup, in just one cycle, is too tall of a task for almost anyone to accomplish. He's an attacking minded manager. He's an ambitious manager. And, if Banija are looking for a long-term manager, he's known somewhat as a program-builder. "We want somebody who is going to come in and establish consistent success for a long time." Another unnamed RBSA source said. "Hanifer certainly seems like that kind of guy- his style of football, imposed onto this NT, could lead to many great things for the Kadongo Kamu."

Those, of course ,are the top 3 candidates. But who else could be hired?

#4 The Domestic Trio- Alexander Bumba(Jinja City FC), Omar Sanyang(Herzegovina City FC)

Known as the top two managers in the Banijan half of the S-FPL, both of these men have to be considered candidates. Omar Sanyang has achieved success at Herzegovina City. But his team is throwing all sorts of money around, to try and be a title contender this year. Would it really make sense when they are backing him to this extent, now? Even if the NT job is open? And then, Alexander Bumba. He's had an eye on that job for a long time. But he wants to finish and complete this job he has here at Jinja City Football Club. He wants to desperately win a major trophy for Jinja City before he goes.

It may be difficult to hire a manager straight from the S-FPL. Team owners are the largest voice at the RBSA. Do any of them want to give up their managers? Country before club, maybe, but that's not how many owners see it. They don't mind it for players- all clubs give up players to national teams. But to give up a manager is another story? The players come back, of course. Managers don't. Banija's S-FPL managers would seem resistant to give up a manager to the national team, and would the RBSA want to start that fight?

#5 The man behind the curtain- Randolf Clery(DRK)

This would be interesting. He's an Executive Board member for the RBSA. What a career arc he has had. He spent a cycle and a half coaching the national team, being an immediate predecessor to Marcus Waters. He then got hired as the Commissioner of the BSL after he was fired from the NT, and spent years helping build the league, both on the commercial side and on the field, before the league joined with the Shango-Fogoa Premier League.

Of course, he was an influential proponent of making that happen. Is he likely to coach the NT again? He's firmly on the business side of things now, and has been for years. Wouldn't be the first time a search committee for a position ended up selecting one of its own members, now would it?
Former champion of quite a few things. Former President of even more things.

The Temple of the Living God - Episode IV (the last episode)

Postby Saint Eleanor » Sun Oct 03, 2021 12:38 pm

OOC: Inspired by the recent surge of Critical Race Theory being taught in American schools and some companies - thanks, Chris Rufo.

Yes, that's an actual Bible quote that I didn't make up for the purposes of this roleplay. The first episode of my next roleplay arc, Gift of the Gab, will be published later today, or perhaps tomorrow (all times BST).
The Temple of the Living God
Episode IV: The Power of Love

9:02am - Sunday 16th June 1996

General George Mitcham always organised his meetings for Thursday and Sunday mornings - don't ask why. Especially not on a Sunday. Especially not on this Sunday.

"And I'm here. That's all of the cabinet. My Vice-Presidents... have you read the newspapers in the last few days, weeks, or months? Don't bother responding; I'm certain you have. They are big."

"They aren't. I could lay one of them on this table and they won't even dangle off the other edge."

"Shut up, Daniel. I was talking about the stories. As you may know, there are people in schools who are engaging in racist bullying. Incredibly, they aren't even students."

"Who are the kids bullying?"

"Bob, you're literally the minister for this and I'm astonished at your... the kids have been brilliant at fighting back against this. It's the staff that are doing the real bullying. A few weeks ago, the Eleanorian got a slideshow from some kid who asked his supply teacher for the files. Why she complied, I don't know, but a few other kids in a couple of other schools came forward with their stories. That's almost ten percent of all the schools here. We have to stop this before it gets the other ninety percent."

"I believe the slideshow pretty much blamed "white people" for just about everything bad to have happened to Saint Eleanor."

"Now you're getting there, Robert. I'm told they contributed most of the good things, as well. Like our freedom. Actually, no, I can remember fighting alongside a couple of the Newion chaps who wanted to fight for independence somewhere; the bastards got their country a couple of years later, but quite a few of them decided that staying here would be more worthwhile. At least we don't have sham elections."

"What bastards?"

"The marvellous ones. I'd love to weed out the dodgy ones but they, too, seem to be white people. Remember the Tinhamptonian nutter who tried to destroy one of our train stations? I can flip the script on those people like that."

"What?"

"Or I could flip it on them like... this," said Mitcham, while reaching for his pocket Bible. "It says here - Corinthians the second, chapter six, parts sixteen and seventeen: ...what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, blah blah blah, come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the lord, and touch not the unclean thing, more blah blah blah. That isn't the full quote but it seems to be an awfully big part of their philosophy."

"They think they're Christian?"

"Most of us are. That's not the point of this, however. They think they are, but they're entirely convinced that they should have nothing to do with people who disagree with them on this one issue, even in the unlikely event they agree on most other things. This is hatred. They're convinced it's love but it isn't, really. I've been very clear that hatred is bad - especially when it extends to hating everybody in this room - and that we are responsible for delivering love in response."

"What are you going to do to stop them, then?"

"You've improved too, Dan. Once this meeting is over, I'll ask a few questions of my staff about what decrees that Robert and I can ensure that this kind of nonsense isn't spread in schools. And at workshops for proper adults, too. It's in nobody's interest for a bunch of part-time irritating extremists to be churned out by a handful of full-time irritating extremists, as I've made very clear in April and May."

The following Tuesday, Mitcham issued the Educational Equality Decree. It served no purpose other than to forbid companies and schools from telling people that their race - or their sex - decided their moral status, their actions, their beliefs, what a bunch of people that looked like them did a quarter of a century ago, and so on. When pressed on why this didn't apply to the government, Charlotte Morgan said that "we've never promoted division and never will."

International Consultancy went back to talking in platitudes about how to make corporate management more efficient and better at selling stuff and all that other nonsense. As for the teachers, most of them were quickly forgiven, but politely asked not to deliver those lessons to our young and impressionable children again, thank you very much.

All in all, it was a very big storm in a very small cup of coffee. And for what? Fuck knows. When Morgan said that the government stood against division, she really meant keeping it and the Great Northern Company together. You can interpret that sentence however you want.

BoF76 quarterfinalists --- WC91 participants

Why? George Mitcham, General then and now, cofounded the National Liberation Front in 1971 to demand a free Saint Eleanor. He got his wish in '75 after a 15-month war: becoming President, appointing notable NLF friends and some charity's executive director as VPs and calling them legislators. He has retained power through oil money; zero income tax; free healthcare, schooling, public transport - and markets; tolerating dissent on apolitical matters; allowing private gun ownership (with plenty of training) to protect against future invasions; high-quality PR; and football.

Gift of the Gab - Episode I (plus episode index, soon)

Postby Saint Eleanor » Sun Oct 03, 2021 2:37 pm

OOC: Very heavily inspired by a dream I had around this time last year. This is how I explained it to Kandorith (with some edits made for clarity):
...I was still at school and met an old schoolfriend at a trivia contest who was actually representing some other school. This was in the modern day and the friend in question had this thing where she could ask a question on the mobile phone and the answer would be transmitted to that other school's big rivals (not my school)...

Index... will arrive as soon as I've published my last episode, which will be after my last game in this Cup of Harmony - I intend to start a new roleplay arc for the 90th World Cup qualifiers.
Gift of the Gab
Episode I: Movin' On Up

4pm - Friday 23rd August 1996

Most love triangles involve people, not institutions. This love triangle didn't.

The people of Grand Beach, the New Lizard and Williamstown - three bordering districts of Saint Eleanor, the city - usually respected each other... especially the younger ones. That their teams were seated together during the Schools Trivia Challenge, the one held on the last Friday of that relatively long summer holiday, always helped.

That did not change even if you were Ron Bishop, one of Williamstown's fairly studious but nondescript prefects on school days and a regular team member on this day. Even though it was the break after the first round (maybe the second; he'd lost track), and even though collusion was supposed to be banned, he'd figured he'd come up to Sarah French. At least he thought it was Sarah.

A few seconds and a bit of a chat later, he found out that it was Sarah after all. New Lizard team captain, possibly flush with cash, okay at this whole "what's the answer to this obscure question" thing. Actually, no, she was of a much higher calibre than just being okay.

"You see this?" she whispered - and he subsequently nodded. "It's the DigiPac Micro - infamous handheld console from '93-ish, Eleanorian company. I have a cartridge loaded here and basically..."

"What, Sarah?"

"Each question has a number from 1 to 2,500 on the board. I type in that number, press A to get the question, press it again to get the answer and press B to send it off to the Grand Beach teacher - yeah, I have connections. It'll work like a charm. I hope so, anyway: they're 34th while we're approximately... what, fifteenth?"

"What the fuck are you doing that for?"

"No swearing, Ronny. They go up the charts artificially, we go up naturally, huge outcry, local parents choose our two schools instead and we'll be in - and in big. I've gotta press E to save the screen capture into my memory, by the way."

"That's pre-loaded?"

"Yep. Get back in your seat, you don't look so different to Xavier but you'll be found out if you stay." And with that, Bishop dutifully obliged.

Round four, actually. World history and politics. The first round after, for all three schools, a mediocre series of questions about maths and science and all that at best, and the first of two that they largely enjoyed - or even prospered in. A bit broad, some might say, but not if you really knew your stuff.

The stage was not so much set as it was set back up again - the same old guy speaking in front of the same people in the same place using the same tools for the same reason, just on different topics. Now it was time to think. Or not.

"Round four - world history and politics. Please remain quiet and continue to follow the rules. Thank you...... the first question of this round: On what day was Hazanta meKonta, the president of Gladom Newion, born? A: 20th November 1933. B: 20th November 1934. C: 20th November 1935. D: 20th November 1936."

1-6-7-6. A. E. A. 20th November 1933. E. B. Right on the money. The other schools answered... later.

"The second question of this round: How many goals did Kandorith concede during the 77th football Cup of Harmony in 1992, which they won? A: Eighteen. B: Ten. C: Twenty-two. D: Twenty-seven."

1-8-2-5. A. E. A. Twenty-two. E. B. Splendid work. The competition was too slow.

"The third question of this round: Which of the following nations is not a signatory of the Amistad Convention? A: Lamoni. B: Kahanistan. C: Hulldom. D: New Hayesalia."

1-5-8-2. A. E. A. Hulldom. E. B. Ouch. Actually, Grand Beach pressed the wrong button - not by accident, either. Nor too quickly. A few other people got there before them. French would probably make sure to delete those particular snaps when she got home.

And there it was... twenty-two, plus twenty-five to go. Surely if current rates persisted, Grand Beach would be running away with the Margaretforsaken gold-and-something trophy before anybody else could even catch up. "The fourth question of this round... silence, please. When did..."

I mean, I did say they usually respected each other. And that the seating plan always helped. And that collusion was supposed to be banned.

****** The Grand Republic of Saint Eleanor - area 2,863mi2, population 489,816, 1.6 cups of coffee/Eleanorian/day - it's 2000 (OOC: obvious Tinhampton puppet)

Nyowani Kitara National Team

Nyowani Kitara is a nation that is a multi-ethnic and largely bi-racial communist nation, ruled as a one party state. The communist party is called the Kitara Progressive Workers Coalitions, abbreviated as the KPWC, which is the country's only legal political party. While for many years the party has always been the most important institution, over the past 30 years the military has taken a dominant role in the affairs of the party, and by extension, the state.

There are three major ethnic groups in Nyowani Kitara. The first is the Kitara, who account for approximately 57% of the population. These are black skinned people who originate as part of the Kitara tribe, in Banija, mass migrated to modern-day Nyowani Kitara in the 1840s after they were largely exiled by Banijan authorities. Because of that, they have no diplomatic relations with Banija and are largely to be considered 'radically' anti-Banijan. Radical anti-Mormon teachings from the country, alongside Communism and a dispute over who should use the name(Banija consider their own Kitara Region to be the 'true Kitara', while Nyowani Kitara believe Banija lost the rights to the name when the exilied the Kitara people), lead to heavily strained relations.

When they came to north Rushmore, They conquered the land that was dominated by a variety of white native tribes. Osterlanders(approximately 30% of the population) are the biggest native white ethnic group, with Nordlanders(6%) and Zealanders(1%) behind them. The remaining 6% are largely white immigrants and their descendants from neighboring countries (particularly Graentfjall, Tikariot, Yuezhou, and San Ortelio).

Nyowani Kitara is known for its short, yet harsh, winters. This is a small and poorer country, and therefore outdoor sports are rather popular in this corner of Rushmore. Ethnic group for each player is listed. While sports in Nyowani Kitara are integrated on gender, this team is all males.

Nyowani Kitara is in the midst of an ongoing and particularly brutal civil war. While it is a three-way fight, the KWFA is firmly in the hands of the government, and therefore it is official policy for the team to sing praises of the Government. While players are divided, they are under a heavy eye from the Nyowani Kitara Government via the KWFA, and therefore you won't hear any players or staff criticizing the NYK government publicly.

Information
Country code: NYK
Denonym: New Kitaran
Association: Kitara's Workers Footballing Association(KWFA)
Manager: Liang Wei(Yuezhou). 51 years old. A former assistant manager for Yuezhou during their communist era, he is a good selection for the country to lead the national team. He understands the pressures of international football, and yet, as someone loyal to the Communists in Yuezhou, is palatbly acceptable to Nyowani Kitara(who remain the last nation in Rushmore to still recognize Ren Qiang as the rightful head of state of their western neighbors). While Nyowani Kitara used a player-manager at the last three Copa Rushmoris, the KWFA, in recognition of the challenges of World Cup competition, ensured that they'd hire a full-time manager to properly divide out responsibilities.
Senior Assistant Manager: Raira Ouma. 39 years old.
Captain: Tage Hermansson
Alternate Captain: Amittai Owino

Official Roster for the 81st Cup of Harmony

About Huayramarca: The Plurinational State of Huayramarca, also known as ”Huayramarca Mamallaqta” in Quechua and ”Huayramarca Suyu” in Aymara (literally: Windy Country), is an extraordinarily diverse nation in terms of geography that’s located in Anaia. Crossing three time zones, from the islands, reaching the coast, hiking the mountains and then sliding into the jungle, passing massive cordilleras such as the Andes, a nation with 36 million inhabitants that is composed by 9 different ethnical groups.

Huayramarca as such is a relatively new nation for the traditional standards of it, since it was constituted on 1822 (currently, we sit on 1984 according to the Inca Calendar), the main focus of building this nation was to help different ethnic groups to gather force into the region, in order to be recognized multiversally as a nation, hence, may gather some international protection in case their rights would be abused all of a sudden by an external force.

Being completely ignorant on what was happening on the neighborhood, the Aymara, Quechua, Shuar, Guarani, Montubio, Tsáchila, Huaorani, Andoa and Candoshi ethnics decided to form the Republic with the support of neighboring nations such as the Royal Kingdom of Québec. Migration from Québec happened in the late XIX century, mostly peoples known as ”Guayabalenses” decided to move in order to seek a stable place for their families, considering that their home soil was apparently brushed off the map by a dictator called “Gregory”. That last point forced the Huayramarcans into a stronger union in order to survive.

Until the middle XX century, Huayramarca managed to survive economically from llama, alpaca and vicuña herding, since its skins are highly valuable in neighboring Québec due to their strong winters; also, coffee production helped Huayramarca to build some solid institutions that promoted national expansion near the neighboring Cocoabo Forest, that place is “La Selva”, a lush but quite dangerous forest with hundreds of rivers that come from the Andes. After some years of exploration, the authorities met the first indigenous peoples of the zone, which were exploited in order to produce rubber for tires and some mysterious chickens that were produced to do even more mysterious sacrifices to a deity, which the local people and even the rest of Huayramarca wasn’t able to understand how she works, granted, it’s not even a part of the Incan Mythology which includes Inti(the Sun god) and others.

Said abuses committed against the jungle inhabitants caused a heavy political turmoil around 1950, which formed a divide in the nation that still remains until today: Serranos (highlanders), Costeños (coastals) against selváticos (jungle inhabitants); Those divides weren’t noticeable in economic terms but politically, with constant attempts of coup ‘d etat against the government. That situation caused some issues with the neighboring Québec, who neglected to support financially any of those groups if they don’t manage to cooperate between themselves in order to provide prosperity to a heavily hunger-suffering nation back in the time.

Aymara and Quechua peoples took the power during the remaining part of the 50’s until 1969. On that period, Huayramarca suffered the effects of a severe number of “huaycos” (mudslides) caused by heavy rain storms across the entire Huayramarcan Sierra, those events killed at least 300,000 people and urged for an attempt to reincorporate Huayramarca back into normality, but, how? The main bet of the government was to aim for the tourism industry, spamming the developed nations of Anaia in order to make some tourists visit sacred places such as Illimani (a mountain that’s devoted as god for the Aymara folk), Huayna Picchu (the royal Incan palace for Quechua) and the sun-drenched coast ranging from Guayaquil to Lima (specially Montañita, the best beach par excellence in northern Anaia).

The formula was working decently, since the economy was reporting high growth numbers, but seemed to cause some lack of satisfaction on certain zones of the country, especially on the Jungle. Their inhabitants decided to support the Costeño elite in order to beat the Serrano government. 1969 election would be marked for the Huayramarcan history by the magnitude of the sabotage made against the current government, to the point of bribery or killings for their supporters, those incidents made the Costeño elite take control of government and focus even more on the Coast and Jungle, leaving aside the Sierra.

Currently, Huayramarca has a huge wealth gap between zones, the coast boasts the fact of being the economic engine of the nation despite the fact that the capital city is in the Sierra, while the Jungle is slowly developing with some cities such as Sechura, Florencia, Virú and several others boosted by oil findings and rubber production. Sierra may be in disadvantage, but recent developments in neighboring nations may make them turn relevant once again in the nation, since lithium batteries demand is growing up and Huayramarca’s Sierra possesses one of the biggest reserves of said mineral of the entire multiverse.

Basically, Huayramarca is a nation of contrasts and never—ending conflicts that’s well into the deep borehole named “the natural resource course” a hard situation to overcome due to the lack of proper education, critical thinking and result-focused mindset on the population, that constantly seeks for shelter in entertainment industries such as soap operas, music, and now football. Right now, power struggles between the Costeño government led by Hugo Mina and leftist pro-Serrano social movement “Ñucanchi Ñan”made people more fond into football, since they really needed an oxygen supply in-between a lot of crisis and turmoil that could lead to the radicalization of this conflict, to the point of seeing Ñucanchi Ñan turning into a guerrilla and killing Hugo Mina in 1981 after he wanted to exploit minerals in the Aymara holy land of Mount Illimani, located at the outskirts of Huayramarca Metropolitan District.

Since that, Huayramarca has breathed some fresh air, since Ñucanchi Ñan took power with Marta Mamani as the first woman president of the Plurinational Republic, and Augusto Buendía as VP, Huayramarca is enjoying some social transformations that may cause some shakings on what Huayramarcans were knowing as their daily life laws. Focus in sustainable economic growth, taking care of the environment and visibilization of minorities are the main topics on the political agenda, something that is being well received by many people in the nation. This environment has led to an increase in nationalism, since the national unity is being fostered as a State Policy; sports, especially football is being the main vehicle to promote that sense. As for now, the Huayramarcan Football Federation budget has been increased tenfold in order to aim for success in short-term, also aiming to send players overseas and developing techniques to enhance the player's physical and technical shape.

The latter said efforts aren't stopping despite the meager results obtained by the Condors during the last year, to the contrary, some of those fundings have diverted in attepts to build a football pyramid across the nation and creating a strong network of academies and scouting that might help, in the near future, to recruit some fresh talent that could provide Huayramarca some weapons that might help the nation to achieve their first ever World Cup Finals appearance.

Huayramarcan Football History: As a society, Huayramarcans enjoy sports a lot, especially when politics may turn the nation into a chaos every second, they just want to run away from that horrible and desperate situation and may try luck on football.

Considering the levels of poverty on Huayramarca, many young people may give a shot for football in the chaotic Liga 1 or lower tiers, with the hopes of achieving a decent salary that may help their families to get away from poverty and huayco-prone neighborhoods. Liga 1 has fourteen teams from different parts of the country, mostly focused on the Sierra and Costa regions since those are the most heavily populated ones. The recent decisions taken in the Government and the Huayramarcan Football Federation, where they ended a ban on transferring players to foreign teams, has filled with optimism and illusion a lot of youngsters, that now aim to be another Huayramarcan playing abroad.

Immediately after the HFF creation, the president of the Plurinational State, Hugo Mina (Costeño), thought it would be a great idea to form a fringe squad for the AOCAF and then try to make it into Baptism of Fire or World Cup Qualifiers, hence he asked for Eliezer González (head of the Huayramarcan Football Federation) to try and apply for said tournaments. He sent notes in order to sign-up for those events, but he sent them incorrectly, at AOCAF, he sent it to a grandmother living up near the Andean Organization for Coffee, Agriculture and Forests (located at Cumbayá) instead of sending it to the proper AOCAF tournament organizing committee, which turned González into laughing stock for several weeks in Huayramarca. Despite that, González managed to sign-up properly for the WC, despite he was rejected for BoF because he applied to the “Burger of Fire” and not the Baptism of Fire.

After all, the HFF managed to convince 25 players from the amateur-ish Liga 1 sides to build the National Team, whose nickname is resumed to “Kuntur” (The Condors), all those players ranged from being high school students, to chemists, bus drivers, and even people from the local tavern, whose preference is revealed on how they named their team “Real Ebriedad”, which was later supported by Cristalina, the main brewery firm from Huayramarca. Those 25 players decided to investigate some football techniques and decided to apply them at the different games they played on the inaugural Liga 1 season that was won by Real Ebriedad (in a season where corruption was noticeable as how the referees were given beer instead of an energetic beverage by Real Ebriedad liaisons).

Nothing that would be possible without the support of Omar Caicedo, a Costeño who migrated to Québec and decided to learn some football techniques while managing Beyreuth University, where he won three national titles out of eight seasons on his span with them. Caicedo is a fan of high-pressure football, known as “gegenpressing” or “El Huayco” as Huayramarcans may call if (specially Serranos, since they might be quite shy or sometimes plain dumb that doesn’t like to attack) Anyways, Caicedo’s strategy proved right on some matches played by Huayramarca against their northern neighbor, the Royal Kingdom of Québec, beating them 5-1 at Huayramarca’s Estadio Nacional (located at 4,012 masl only?!…) and tying 2-2 at Iqaluit’s Ice Hockey Rink (that’s what the players thought at playing in a frozen city… ¡Achachay!) If you wonder what’s ¡Achachay! Well, figure out you’re on top of the mountain receiving wind and gelid weather right into you, if you did it, welcome to Huayramarcan’s sense of cold shivering!

Well, coming back to football, Caicedo’s devotion for 4-2-3-1 has been unquestionable, he always loves to boast of having a neat defense, two defending mid fielders that may aim to recover possession when needed, or even having one of them switching to creative duties in support of the team’s brain, Ian Mamani, then, two wingers feeding the sole striker up in the middle of the box. That striker may often go back and try to recover balls and make a power play from himself with support of a winger and then seek for a goal. He did demonstrated a lot during the first part of the World Cup Qualifiers, earning some mixed results during it, but it failed for a part of the second half, where the team accumulated an 11 winless game streak added that they weren't capable to snatch a win during their first eight local games, in fact, their first home win came at the 9th home game, after that, they won three out of their four last home games, earning a 8 games unbeaten streak to finish off the Qualifiers, which was a quite impressive recovery after having their morale smashed on the floor and some players even considered suicide, since they were considered to be a mediocre living fail walking through their home cities streets.

Said streak wasn’t a mere happening, it was somehow a confirmation on how the Huayramarcan National Team had turned into a squad that tried to consolidate themselves as a hardworking team, with limited chances to put some squads in troubles but capable enough to defend well and to avoid harm being done against them. The Cup of Harmony 77 was an interesting test for the team, to see if they are capable to handle out the nerves of what it implies to be struggling for a knockout spot until the last second of the last match, which is what happened to the Condors, since they tied their first three games, they had a chance to get into the last rounds but they had to face Port Ember, the top seed of their group. Huayramarca succumbed to the nerves and wasted a 2-0 lead to see how Port Ember scored five goals in quick succession, nothing more to do for a Huayramarcan squad that seemed capable to pull off a decent feat.

The AOCAF 60 saw how a somewhat forged squad perform against the top dogs into their region, a path that won’t show immediate results and may fuel some anger amongst the Huayramarcan populace and media, but, the patience of Omar Caicedo and his pupils is being determinant in order to see if this generation profiles themselves to be somehow relevant. A 1-7 against Equestrian States, followed by draws and a win, helped the team to gather some confidence, despite the terrible beginning on said championship.

A spectacular beginning on World Cup 86 Qualifiers helped the Condors to finish 4th in the first half of qualifiers, being two points below the second placed squad, but defeats against top dogs such as Ko-oren and Tequilo killed the desires of this national team to qualify, also, instigated by poor performances against low and other mid-ranked nations boosted that debacle. The Cup of Harmony wasn't different to the end of the World Cup Qualifiers, it was in the same shape, defeats, defeats and pressure on the squad due to the fact that they were worried on what was happening on Huayramarca, due to the death of Hugo Mina, uncertainty arosed and caused the players to have a subpar performance in the tournament, despite a late win that turned to be the first ever one for Huayramarca in the Cup of Harmony.

With the latest investments made by the Huayramarcan Government to the Huayramarcan Football Federation, by multiplying tenfold their budget, the HFF has now sent the managerial staff of the Condors to other nations, in order to gather new ideas and apply those in order to build a competent side in tactical terms, with the main purpose to achieve World Cup qualification for the first time as soon as possible and provide that joy to the Huayramarcan folk. That heavy investment provided some benefits during the 87th World Cup Qualifiers, where Huayramarca left behind the label of being an "uncomfortable rival" to take a protagonic role in their group, finishing second, behind Audioslavia, with a solid 40 points in 18 matches. Things in playoffs might be forgetable since the beginning, since Huayramarca didn't took advantage in the first leg despite playing home, tying with Tikariot and then being defeated heavily at the second leg (1-4), made the Condor's illusions of WC Qualifying end horribly.

Despite the downturn in the team's mindset, the team faced some struggles at the Cup of Harmony group stage. Being defeated by Mriin at the first game, defeating Garifunya 1-0 and then tying against Ibixa for the second time in the cycle sent the Condors to the Knockout phase of CoH for their first time ever, Xanneria was a hard rival for the Round of 32, Huayramarca's miracle run was about to start with a narrow 2-1 win over them; then two rock-solid performances against Saint Domingue and a well-known foe from the WCQ Group (Sargossa) with a 3-1 and 2-0 respectively, put Huayramarca among the best four sides in the Cup of Harmony. Being defeated by Mriin with a hard-fought 2-3 and then once again a 1-4 against Newmanistan were enough to confirm Huayramarca as the 4th placed side, with desire to improve their performance in this World Cup Qualifier, hoping to achieve heights that they haven't reached ever before, this, as a way to lift their mood after a quite discrete participation in the last AOCAF, where they won only one time, tied two and were defeated two times.

World Cup 88th would prove to be an interesting situation for the team and fans overall, Huayramarca would have a rather forgettable first half of the qualifiers, with a 6-game winless streak that became a ballast enough to keep the team away from the Top-3 during the entire Qualifier. Despite that, with an affected morale, the team tried to struggle back in hopes of a miracle, something that didn't happened but made the team finish the cycle with a rather strong 7-game unbeaten streak that prolonged to the Cup of Harmony and through the beginning of CAFA, being then a 13-game unbeaten streak, hence, the longest period that Huayramarca has ever enjoyed without a single defeat. Despite being eliminated from CoH at Round of 32 in AET and then in CAFA Group Stage, the team has managed to recover their path with a decent ending for a cycle that seemed to be catastrophic to say the least.

Life may repeat some of their lessons if people doesn’t manage to learn from them, the Huayramarcan National Team enjoyed their best start ever in a World Cup Qualifier, nine goals for and one against in the four first matches, the team was displaying a defensive strength unknown for many fans, they continued the path by defeating Squornshelan Remnant States and Nephara in important matches. “It was too good for being real” said many fans, and Tumbra proved them right, as they grounded the Huayramarcans at the Estadio Nacional with a painful 0-3, so painful that marked a steady decline of the team for the second half, as the team got a succession of draws and defeats that sent them from the top of the table to the fifth place in a span of four matchdays.

As the team tried to recover with some wins, Squornshelan Remnant States slapped seven time the Huayramarcans and the crisis turned visible. Desperate attempts of the team to pull off a comeback seemed to work as they got a solid victory against Delaclava, and despite being defeated by Nephara, results worked for the team; but the time came and the team wasn’t able to held favorable scores against Martune and Tumbra in a direct duel that ended in a sore 1-1, as the Huayramarcans were eliminated with said score line. Someone had to pay the broken dishes, Northwestern Kalactin was that someone, Omar Caicedo used an alternative XI and shifted to a more offensive version of “El huayco”, enough to achieve the largest win of the Huayramarcan National Team, a 5-0 victory that did nothing to comfort fans and Omar Caicedo itself.

The sequels of this elimination shook hard Omar Caicedo tactical foundations, as he noticed that something was failing and that led to multiple reformations such as the Huayramarcan Football Federation lifting a ban for Huayramarcans to be transferred abroad, resulting in six players going to different leagues in order to gather more experience among the big leagues, new tactical movements and athletic development for themselves; also, there’s a possibility that “El huayco” might be reformed into a more offensive version of it, as the team failed to convert severe number of goal occasions into goals, hence, there’s a belief that the team needs a deeper attacking mindset.

Chances are that this Cup of Harmony would be his laboratory to test said idea, which resumes in pushing forward the defensive lines for 10 meters, connecting the midfielders and wingers more with a lone striker in order to accompany him in goal creating opportunities, or perhaps converting the wingers into strikers when needed. Caicedo has pressure behind and he must deliver before the Huayramarcan Football Federation considers it’s too late.

Anyways, Huayramarcan football stills being distinguishable on how prone are they to do long range shots, due that they are used to play at significant heights, the lack of oxygen may make the ball travel further without applying a lot of strength during the mechanics of kicking the football, that is known as the “Andean Effect” and may cause serious troubles for visiting sides on Huayramarca, adding the main fact that breathing might be harder for those used to low altitudes.

Without further ado, the starting XI and substitutes are presented in the following tables:

Team mentality: Huayramarcans, per se, are bold and quite diverse between the team due to the regional contrasts among them: You might note some surnames such as: Condori, Mamani, Quispe, Sayritupac, etc. Those are Serrano surnames. Serranos as such are quite shy people with non-serranos, between them, great footballing societies may be made due to their complete understanding of each other, they are quite homogenous on how they act and may be predictable for each other. But, for the non-expert eye, Serranos are one on their kind and could result unpredictable for them, since they love to do things at fast pace between them, without doubt one could send a 60 meters cross with complete confidence that they might find their teammate, with this, you can notice that Serranos are overconfident on themselves and somewhat dubious with Costeños and Selváticos. Other characteristic of Serranos is that they are quite easy to intimidate, being shy and short-sized doesn’t helps, but in that situation, they might opt to act even better than they do for the sake of shutting your mouth.

Costeños and Selváticos (jungle) in the other hand are confident with everybody, even if they might not receive the same treatment by their Serrano fellows. Those two groups conform the rest of the team and might do good societies on field, declining the quality of their chemistry when trying to connect with Serranos, due to the latter shy mood. Physically speaking, Costeño and Selváticos are people who boast being the tallest overall in the team, also, their mania for body preparation at gyms make them suitable to defensive duties and running on the wings since they love running crazily (they usually do that, since they are used to run away from police or a mob of angry Serranos after robbing).

Chemistry building has been somewhat complicated for this team during the five cycles they have competed together, but has been a rather successful process that consolidated with the 79th Cup of Harmony, the 88 th and 89 th World Qup Qualifiers, as they have been together as glue through high and lows. The regional divides topic is now a thing of the past as the players have grown up significantly, they have learned that teamwork is essential to achieve success as Huayramarca desires in the multiverse of football, but there are some things that need to be polished in order to see the Condors reaching new heights.

Although they work nicely as a team, there’s a moment when they can’t do that and that moment is when they have the goal in their sights, when they have a chance to score, they try to do their best to do it by themselves, even if that means avoid passing the ball to a better placed teammate, individualities have been surging from nowhere and this issue has costed valuable results for the team. Omar Caicedo and his managerial staff has been trying to combat this, but as of now, his attempts haven’t worked at all; despite the results, he has a last hope in the shape of the ban lifting for Huayramarcans to access foreign leagues, perhaps the pressure and requirements out there, and the fact of being submerged into a new mindset might help the players to be more pragmatic.

To finish with this part, Huayramarca is that kind of team that may be overconfident sometimes, but if you press them to their limits, they might react in unsuspected ways, be those positive or negative for their interests, you don’t know what would happen in the Serrano, Costeño or Selvático mindset. As they do on the local league, they might try to do some antics to their rivals, be it: providing beer instead of water to their rivals, or the classiest one, giving distillated “ayahuasca” (vodka-like alcohol) and pass it like water and make their rivals be drunk, taking advantage of their influence to beat the rival team. Of course, they might not abuse of this resource, Serranos might ask Inti for it.

Game Scheme: Caicedo aims to use always a 4-2-3-1 scheme that he dubs it as “El huayco” (the mudslide) due to an analogy he made of his team with such a devastating natural phenomena: “We aim to build a fast team, aiming to be unpredictable for the others while using our regional paradigms in our favor. The less known we are, the more lethal we could be and that’s why I love not having a specific plan.” That’s what Caicedo wants to use, but in reality, there are some hints to analyze what he loves to do with his teams, especially on Beyreuth University of Québec.

El Huayco is a style of play in which you look to win back the ball as soon as you lose it, and you try to win it back as high up the pitch as possible; that means you’re closing down a lot to put pressure on the player that's just won the ball back.

The idea is that the player who just won the ball will be vulnerable and won't have time to think about his first pass. You just close him down to win the ball back quickly as high up the pitch as possible, and then you initiate a counter attack. You're likely already half way there and ready to go past into space and score a goal.

You can also use this tactic to target specific weak players, if you have noticed a weakness in a certain team. Maybe central defenders or full backs aren't comfortable on the ball, and you can look to press and close down certain individuals to try and make the most out of this game pressing style.

Caicedo has done some arrangements to this style considering the fate suffered during the World Cup 88 and 89 Qualifiers, as he now has pushed off the defensive lines closer the half of the pitch, being almost close with the midfielders’ line in order to exchange passes, reinforcing creation duties in the midfield and gaining extra protection in case the team losses the ball. The wingers now have a protagonist role as they might venture more often in attacking duties, transforming their roles to be strikers when needed, so, Huayramarca could have a 4-3-3 scheme at certain moments of the match. The midfielder would have three options to supply balls, and the striker wouldn’t be alone for that moment, so if he struggles, he might collaborate with the “false strikers” and assure more precision for goal chances.

For the last purpose mentioned, Serranos are heavily important, they might be the analogue of a dog felling your fear and then attacking, they as collective love to use their different point of views and implement them as one while attacking, then fast passes and maybe a long-range shot may happen, especially if the team is playing on the highlands. If the team is playing on the coast or jungle, they might seek to control the ball and make the rival team run behind the ball for some time, in order to cause climatic exhaust on them, since coast and jungle are hot and terribly humid in this part of Anaia, so it may pose a real challenge for teams not used to play in such conditions.

To achieve Caicedo’s main goal, there are several prerequisites for successful counter pressing. The decisive factor is the overall positioning of the team and their playing style right before attempting to counter press. The players must play as close to one another as possible so that they can press together as a unit right after the ball is lost – which is a given in short passing football. At the same time, they should not stick so close to one another that they neglect to cover enough space. Usually, a good layout in possession and a good shape behind the lost ball go hand in hand.

Some trainers use the basic rule of thumb to “occupy the fewest possible zones with individual players, but the greatest possible distance between the players within those zones so that they don’t occupy the same space” to make the positioning simple to understand; although, with a rule of thumb like this, some aspects are lost in terms of complexity.

Many teams also have problems deciding when to stop pressing, for example, when we stop pressing if we can’t win the ball back? When should we retreat? How long should you press and with how many players? This is particularly problematic because the position of the ball is always changing. Therefore, there is a theory created by Caicedo – the five second rule. Immediately after losing the ball the team should press at top speed and with maximum intensity for five seconds.

If the team hasn’t recovered the ball within five seconds and there is no chance of immediately winning it, they should fall back into their defensive formation. Depending on the team, the number of seconds may vary. It is recommended that the strategic basics of “El Huayco” be coached in order to develop a flexible, situation-specific length of time for counterpressing.

For scorination purposes, set the style modifer of Huayramarca on +4.30.

Image

The Kits: Huayramarca’s social mindset is to aim for local consumption in the long term, hence the HFF decided to hire “eva Sportswear” to manufacture the kits for the national team. “eva” decided to take the ball out of the park with some unique designs for Huayramarca, reflecting the national identity and adding up some motivational phrases on them for mere sake of marketing. Those kits are based on the geography of this nation, from the coast, to the highlands and jungle in order to promote a sense of national unity, especially on a stage that the national team might try to do something decent in their first World Cup Qualifiers venture.

As backgrounds, you might notice some decent spots that Huayramarca has to offer, such as Uyuni's salt lake with some astrophotography in it, Huayna Picchu's monument to Inti (Sun), Lake Quilotoa (an old volcano near the city of Tulcán), Puerto Odriozola at the San Carlos Islands, the Ojos del Salado Volcano with a lavender field and then, the second flag of the Plurinational Republic, the Wiphala, a representation of the old Incaic glory of Huayramarca and banner of the Aymara and Quechua nationalities.

“eva” decided to depict elements that provide some sense of pride and national identification for Huayramarcans, no matter where are they from, those are universal icons of what Huayramarca is and its roots. Strong roots, strong legacy, and strong people forging their future with pride and hope.

Players description - Starting XI.

Nota bene: Caps considered after World Cup 89 Qualifiers - For national purposes, friendlies are never taken into consideration for official registries.

N°1 - Juan Mamani - GK - 26 yrs - Team: Rülândéá Kôstä Image - Height: 1.88 mts - Caps: 142 - Goals: 1

Mamani is an individual that believes he always is right, he tends to be creative when saving balls of creating some innovative ideas to take the ball forward, based so much in the fact that he is protective, spontaneous and loves to be independent in his actions. Currently, his mood is over the clouds as he was recently signed up by the Farf side of Rülândéá Kôstä, now Juan expects to have experience at the highest level possible and learn techniques that might help the Condors sometime. A curious fact is that he’s brother with the creative mid of this team, Ian Mamani. He also has scored a free kick goal against Greater Lausitz, that goal helped Huayramarca to get their first ever victory at home soil on World Cup 85th, matchday 18th.

N°2 - Kevin Quispe - RCB - 23 yrs - Team: Farrenton Athletic Image - Height: 1.75 mts - Caps: 141 - Goals: 5

A pretty average guy in terms of intelligence that has no life plan, hence he left studies in order to make a living with football. He is very secretive, doesn't likes even to tell his teammates what will be his next movement because he knows we will be wrong, Quispe has serious issues with anger management and may be rebellious, he is cold and ignores what the others might feel or think about him, he doesn't give a fu*k of anything. Anyways, he's flabbergasted by the fact of moving to a better football league, this time he adventures into Eura to defend Farrenton Athletic. Quispe is now an historical player by the fact of being the first Huayramarcan player to move to another country twice to play football, that experience earned in Taeshan could prove useful for his new experience.

N°4 - Carlos Vilca - LFB - 27 yrs - Team: Valnohar Rovers FC Image - Height: 1.78 mts - Caps: 138 - Goals: 9

Vilca exemplifies the stereotype of a Serrano, he is overly analytical and optimistic, with some patience when a player might approach to him, he might take some minutes to make a mental profile of who he will face and how to block him in its right side. Despite being coordinated and loving to be the center of attention, he loves to be quiet and solitary with his own personal code of conduct, he might be extremely fair while robbing balls and could try to be the surprise factor, since he tends to be a box-to-box player that loves to defend and also create offensive plays when possible. Right now, he’s not in his best personal moment, as his performance declined during the last part of the World Cup Qualifier, as many fingers are pointing him as the main cause of severe goals that caused Huayramarca to falter during the World Cup Qualifier.

N°6 - Felipe Fernández - RFB - 22 yrs - Team: Vogsphere United Image - Height: 1.85 mts - Caps: 142 - Goals: 8

Pipe, as known by his teammates is an extremely intelligent right fool back that adapts quite quickly to any situation he might face, he loves being orderly and hates mess. When playing, he is straight-forward and might argument with rivals, referee and even his teammates, he rarely praises others and values learning from experience. Said experiences have helped him to evolve into a solid stalwart for Omar Caicedo in the Huayramarcan defense, even helping to score few but decisive goals for the Condors against top rivals; now, he has been called up Vogsphere United from the Squornshelan Remnant States to defend the team, in what surely will be a great experience where Fernández will learn incredible lessons.

N°14 - Santiago Chumacero - LCB - 26 yrs - Team: FC Atahualpa Image - Height: 1.81 mts - Caps: 142 - Goals: 10

Chumacero's perception of things might be out of this world, his mind might be some steps forward the others and might help to anticipate to some movements that may be done by the rival. For that purpose, he's always flexible, active and plays like he would be killed if he does a mistake, he's loyal with his team, faithful and gentle, hence he might be the motivator of the squad. Chumacero is an extremely reliable player and it would be matter of time to see him departing from the Huayramarcan Liga 1 for a better place, as his athletic capabilities are too big to stagnate in an amateur-ish league.

N°17 - Orlando Mina - CM - 23 yrs - Team: Montréal Koreana Image - Height: 1.95 mts - Caps: 139 - Goals: 8

One of the two defensive mid of the team, being the classical Costeño out there, Mina is the tallest and strongest player of the squad. Mina's attitude is being original and stubborn, giving you some classical Costeño vibes, consistent in his performance and devoted to God, he cares a lot about what he does, since he tries always to correct his mistakes and not suffering on them, instead, he uses them as feedback to improve his game and abilities. Mina's a great example on how one can benefit from football, as he helped his mother who was fired from his job when he joined to the Condors and turned her into a real estate tycoon by providing her some savings, adding the fact that he now will be playing for a decent side such as Montréal Koreana has boosted up his mood after having some depression due to the last WCQ outcome.

N°11 - Ian Mamani - CF - 23 yrs - Team: Workers Union Image - Height: 1.65 mts - Caps: 142 - Goals: 22

The youngest of the Mamani brothers in this team, along with Juan, Ian has what Juan might lack sometimes, creativity and brightness, although they play in totally different positions and roles in the team. This creative mid and captain of the team is one of the big things among this team, a fast-paced and fussy person with lots of potential, euphoria that drives him to perform as what he can do, being the best of the entire nation in his role. Large crosses are his specialty, including long-range shots when playing on the highlands. Right now, his euphoria level has increased a lot, considering he got called to play at the Workers Union of Eura, the fact of being called captain and being on the international TV screen for WCQ and weekend matches that any random Huayramarcan broadcast fills him with motivation.

N°8 - Nicolás Allauca - CF - 28 yrs - Team: Anomalies Image - Height: 1.80 mts - Caps: 142 - Goals: 15

Nico was a bus driver until the last three weeks prior to WC 85 Qualifiers, when he decided to enter to the amateur football world of Huayramarca, he was in luck that Caicedo watched him plat and fell in love on how he performed. Allauca is spontaneous and may not like to do training, he is a fast-moving and extremely practical (hates theories) defensive mid, that may mutate to a second creative mid with Ian Mamani and has also a decent capability to score goals while going to attack. Allauca is blunt, might hurt you with his eyes and ignores rules, he might be dramatical when somebody tackles or fouls him, in order to make that player get sent off of at least yellow carded. Nico is pleased by his performance as of late with Anomalies, but unsatisfied as he hasn’t been as determinant as he used to be with the Condors.

N°7 - Abraham Mendoza - LF - 24 yrs - Team: Huayramarca FC Image - Height: 1.63 mts - Caps: 142 - Goals: 14

Nicknamed “El Ingeniero” The smallest of the entire team, Mendoza is a mentally strong individual who loves to work hard, play hard and also be a strong leader inside the team in terms of order. A competent but realistic player who may not be spectacular while playing on the wings, but pragmatical and effective when achieving his purposes. Perhaps, on his personal life he is the best positioned of all the group, since he just graduated in Industrial Engineering at the Huayramarcan Technical University with a deserved "summa cum laude", so no matter what happens, he could get a decent job position in any Huayramarcan enterprise to optimize their processes. You might notice how Abraham's personal discipline is, and this is translated even to football, where he tries to compliment some weaknesses that he may have as his height, but he tries to compensate with some decent body-building routines. He might not be a prolific scorer for the standards of a winger, but he has at least a 35% of assists for the total of Huayramarcan goals scored during the Qualifiers, hence, somebody to take care of.

N°21 - Gabriel Sayritupac - RF - 24 yrs - Team: Valnohar Rovers FC Image - Height: 1.75 mts - Caps: 142 - Goals: 43

Sayri as he's known by many people in his native Tulcán (near the Québécois-Huayramarcan border) is an artistic person in all senses of his life. Usually, he makes a living by painting portraits of people visiting the Chimborazo National Forest Reserve, sometimes working on a local brewery or doing some football for fun. He doesn't stands being alone and might be that easy-going Serrano (which is weird, if we come to think it). He has some genetic problems that makes him quite prone to injuries, and when those occur, Sayri decides to get inebriated to let frustration go away. A dirty antic he has is that he's well known for giving alcoholic beverages to the rivals instead of water, he has developed modified ayahuasca in order to make it feel and look like water, which has fooled some teams. Keep an eye on him!

Despite that, Sayritupac is a well skilled winger, an antithesis of Mendoza, since he loves to be artistical while dribbling and doing a cross, he might try to do rabonas while shooting or passing and will keep attacking, even more than the usual for a winger like him, he always loves to risk it all. Right now, his mood is high and confident, his departure to the Tikariot Premier League has made him achieve his dream to play abroad and help his family.

N°21 - Bryan Tello - ST - 29 yrs - Team: Metropolis Alligators Image - Height: 1.86 mts - Caps: 140 - Goals: 83

A decently heighted Costeño as forward is always a neat solution for your goal needs, with good pace, stride and also physic abilities Tello is what every team may need for up front. He's factual since he studied Philosophy at the University of Cumbayá, a committed and self-confident man who might be extremely traditional to his striker role, he might seek for some space in order to go front, use his strength and move towards the goal. Tello is a somewhat strong leader among the shadows of the Huayramarcan national team, an outgoing and straight-forward person that could sometimes aggressive since he's prone to be insensitive. He's right now interested in evolving as a legend for Huayramarcan football, something that he is slowly building up with the strength of goals and assists to his teammates and, perhaps, his movement to Metropolis Alligators in Valladares might help him to achieve it, as he might be into one of the best teams as of late in the multiverse.

Substitutes:

Nota bene: In order to have a deeper understanding of Huayramarcan players, take in consideration the following list of personalities for the substitutes. For a better understanding of said list, take time to watch the substitute players list posted again down here and follow the order of said list. The first player on this list, has his mindset reflected in the left of the first row, the second in the right of the first row and then, so on until the last one:

Licentian National Football Team

What a return to international football it has been for the Licentian Isles. While they failed to qualify for this World Cup in Tikariot and South Newlandia, climbing to third in a difficult group shows the progress that the Cyan-and-Gold have already made since their return to the biggest stage of them all. That means that hopes will be high going into the Cup of Harmony, held in Zwangzug and Sylestone. Whether that will shake out to any great success for the Cyan-and-Gold is yet to be determined, of course, but Licentians have plenty to be excited about going forward.

Head Coach - Fabrizio Kaal
At first, people questioned the decision of the FALI to hire the title winning manager of Montfort Wanderers only one year into his term at the club. Nobody is questioning Fabrizio Kaal anymore. His change of style seems to have only benefitted a Licentian squad that relied on strong defence throughout their first cycle back on the big stage. Many people are wondering if Kaal will leave the Cyan-and-Gold as quickly as he left the Wanderers: currently, they’re just grateful to have him.

Formation - 4-5-1 (Skill Modifier: -2):
Kaal has dropped his style from when he managed Montfort Wanderers for a more traditional Licentian style; a 5 man midfield with a playmaking holding midfielder, pacey wingers and a lone striker with the ability to hold up the ball and prowess in the air. The wingers will often drop back alongside the central midfielders, especially in defence, occasionally encouraging overlaps from the full backs, and set pieces will be an important part of the game plan. It is hoped that this slightly defensive style will lead the Licentians further than an all-out attack against more experienced teams, as it has up to now under Kaal’s leadership.

Squad:

Goalkeepers:

Caitlin Fraser - 34 years – SC Montfort – CAPTAIN
Sam Heijnis - 30 years - St Thomas
Leland Wood - 26 years - Montfort Wanderers

Caitlin Fraser retains the captaincy going into the Cup of Harmony, as she continues to lead from the back for the Licentian Isles. Behind her, there are rumours that Sam Heijnis may make this his last international tournament, given the fact that he has now reached 30 and still not surpassed the legendary Fraser on the depth chart, which would give hope to Leland Wood behind him.

Full Backs:

Cam Spijker - 32 years – Mipojoseon Image
Rowan Findlay - 27 years - Montfort Wanderers

Sarah Maartens – 26 years – St Thomas
Seren Thomson – 23 years – Couno Rangers Image

With the team including four full-backs for this tournament, they retain the same players that travelled throughout World Cup qualifying. Cam Spijker must be beginning to wind down his international career at the age of 32, but for now he maintains his place in the expected starting XI alongside Rowan Findlay. Sarah Maartens, part of the St Thomas side that has now won two LPL titles, is joined in reserve by Seren Thomson, who has impressed since moving to Tumbra.

Centre Backs:

Lucia Allen - 29 years - Abingdon Celtic
Flora Watson - 31 years - St Thomas – VICE-CAPTAIN

Harris Shaw - 24 years – Waterfleet
Arwen van As – 21 years – Couno Rangers Image

The defence largely remains as it was in qualifying, with only one player cut at centre half. Lucia Allen retains her place alongside vice-captain Flora Watson, as this experienced pair look to go through yet another international tournament together. The youth on the bench includes Harris Shaw, from the other big club on St Thomas, and Arwen van As, last of Garton Bay Pirates but now joining Seren Thomson with Couno Rangers.

Holding Midfielders:

Saul van Duuren - 24 years – Waterfleet
Fiadh Buchan – 21 years – Coret Hawks Image

Saul van Duuren remains as the only man that Licentians would expect to start in holding midfield, with his playmaking abilities making him a strong choice for Fabrizio Kaal. He’s backed up though by a growing talent in Fiadh Buchan: while Saltburn went straight back down to the Parish Senior Leagues, her performances at home as well as internationally have earned her a move to Nephara to become the first Licentian to play in the Zenith.

Centre Midfielders:

Arlo McGregor - 25 years - Montfort Wanderers
Arthur Mazereeuw – 22 years – St Thomas

Thomas Hughes – 22 years – Montfort Wanderers
Regan McMillan – 23 years – AFC Farnworth

Once again, it’s a young corps of central midfielders for the Licentians. Though it’s strange to think that Arlo McGregor has now reached 25 years of age, he retains all the pace and creativity of his youth while breaking through at Montfort Wanderers, and he’ll be joined in midfield by Arthur Mazereeuw, who continues to become a star on the back of his performances for St Thomas. In reserve, Thomas Hughes and Regan McMillan, also youngsters who have perhaps been overshadowed by other players at their clubs, will be hoping for opportunities to shine.

Wingers:

Miles Henderson - 28 years - Abingdon Celtic
Wisse Tuininga - 26 years – SW Stahlberg Image

Scarlet McKenzie - 24 years – Mountainside Image
Casey McMillan – 23 years – St Thomas

Miles Henderson, much like Cam Spijker, is another player who may make this Cup of Harmony his last run at an international tournament. Despite only being 28, he isn’t quite as pacey as he was in his youth, and rumours suggest that he may want to spend more time with his family in Abingdon. Alongside him, Wisse Tuininga has continued to flourish after leaving St Bart’s for Siovanija and Teusland. Behind them in the depth chart, Scarlet McKenzie will be hoping for opportunities, but they’re more likely to come for Casey McMillan, who has impressed for Farnworth and for whom the spot on the right wing seems to be opening up.

Centre Forwards:

Tiago Weiling - 31 years - St Thomas
Anne-Linde van Oers - 23 years – 1896 Ebor Image
Ruaridh Grant - 27 years - Gaelic Club

Once again, Fabrizio Kaal has a rough choice of who to play up front for the Isles. With a group of strikers as strong as this one, the decision of who gets the number 9 shirt will never be easy. Tiago Weiling has perhaps begun to be overshadowed at St Thomas but still has a lot to offer, while Ruaridh Grant is included despite his team having a rough time in the LPL. Anne-Linde van Oers, having impressed enough since her move to Thessia to earn a move up in the Mytanar league, will be hoping that her opportunities will grow as the two ahead of her age.

Visitors to the Licentian Isles for international matches should note that there are a growing number of football hooligans, known on the Isles as “casuals”, who are always liable to cause disruption and possibly attack fans travelling to the Licentian Isles. Travelling supporters are advised to wear team colours wherever possible (as casuals will not attack fans wearing colours without provocation), and avoid areas of the Isles populated by violent casual groups, along with trying to avoid these groups at matches. Most casual groups will be easily identifiable by banners they carry or songs they sing. Groups to avoid (with associated club and parish) include:

Jolly Roger (Garton Bay Pirates, Montfort Parish)
Capital City Squad (Montfort North End, Montfort Parish)
Real Celts (Gaelic Club, Abingdon Parish)
Colliery Casual Crew (Colesham Rovers, Colesham Parish)
Island Riot Squad (St Bart’s United, St Bart’s Parish)
Licentian Border Squad (St Thomas, St Bart’s Parish)

Nations should also note that some casual or ultra groups may travel in force with the Licentian national team for international matches outside the Isles. Not all are violent, but most will carry flares and large banners, and make use of them to build up the atmosphere during a match. If your nation bans this kind of behaviour, please make the FALI aware so that we can warn fans travelling to your nation in advance.

For any more information on Licentian casuals, please contact the FALI (OOC - discuss by TG or Discord).

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Preferred starting lineup: check my most recent RP, otherwise the bolded players are most likely to start
Preferred Goalscorers: no preference
Godmod scoring events: No
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but I decide severity and how long they will be out for
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: Discuss by TG/Discord
Godmod other events: Discuss by TG/Discord

Fair play and respect are important to Licentian players, and they should not be depicted as going outside the bounds of normal behaviour during a match without prior permission. I will also not tolerate the introduction of any virus or other world-changing thing to the Isles without prior permission. If you have another idea that you would like to RP I am happy to collaborate: hopefully it’s clear where to go by now.

Player ages are correct as of the first matchday.

Pluvia and the Saxean Isles Cup of Harmony 81 Roster

Schima Bas | The Golden Crescent

National Team Record: (6-4-8)
National Team Ranking (Post-WCQ89): 152
Manager: Eugenio Tio (6-4-8)
Captain: Casildo Hana
Region: Atlantian Oceania
Formation: 4-3-3
Style Modifier: +4

Last Tournament Performance
WCQ89 6-4-8, 7th in group, did not advance to knockout stage

The Golden Crescent had a number of quality matches in group 18 of WCQ89. Beating (16) Chromatika on MD6 was the highlight of the effort. Other successes include a draw with (23) Eura on MD10, a win against (48) Darmen on MD16, and a 7-3 goal-fest versus (228) Melbergia.

Predicted Lineup

GK: Cairo Hatem, 28
D: Orgasni Azizi, 23
D: Rabi Bagheri, 24
D: Shunnar Huq, 23
D: Mudahir Avendano, 24
M: Makin Moghaddam, 26
M: Bisma Shehadeh, 29
M: Araft Sergeant, 30
F: Hideki Nazar, 26
F: Casildo Hana, 20
F: Antwaun Kamara, 20

Schima Bas, relative newcomers to the international footballing scene, performed well despite coming in as unranked participants in World Cup 89 qualifying. The general consensus among average Basians remains fairly positive. Several matches have stayed memorable in the minds of fans from the qualifiers, and many saw improvement in the team’s demeanor.

The team is again managed by Eugenio Tio, who’s impressive win over Chromatika and draw versus Eura raised his odds of staying in the job post-WCQ. The manager is known to be a little scatterbrained and peculiar. It’s unknown if the previous successes will carry over into this next test of his managerial expertise. With plenty of lineup changes, it’s sure to be a bit of a challenge to shore up the squad’s defensive cohesion, with only Madahir Avendano returning in the starting four across the back.

Roster

Goalkeepers

Cairo Hatem, 28
Benincasa Akhtar, 20
Lucas Lefebvre, 25

Cairo Hatem retains the starting spot despite suffering from a leg injury in early WC89 qualifying. Akhtar returns, who took over the posts when Hatem was out. Newcomer Lefebvre, who missed out on qualifying due to registration problems, will likely play some as Hatem continues to recover. The 25 year old immigrant has been favored lately by Tio, and will likely fill in if Hatem’s injury worsens.

Defense

LB: Orgasni Azizi, 23
CB: Rabi Bagheri, 24
CB: Shunnar Huq, 23
RB, CB: Mudahir Avendano, 24

D: Butrus Pasha, 32
CB: Yann Alam, 31
CB: Asadel Fahmy, 27
D: Alexandre Galland, 22

The defense’s lineup has experienced a lot of change from it’s WCQ form. Several starters have been dropped from the squad entirely, in an attempt to see what other players have to offer. It’s clear the manager wants to shake things up big-time in this section of the pitch. Newcomer Fullback Azizi has shown a lot of promise in physical defending, and has made a rapid rise up the roster since his arrival shortly after the end of qualifying. The Golden Crescent will hope to see him perform well on offense and defense, as Tio looks to utilize defensive build-up play more often.

Midfield

LM: Makin Moghaddam, 26
CM: Bisma Shehadeh, 29
RM: Araft Sergeant, 30

RM: Mahdi Vaziri, 25
CM: Isam Ramada, 25
MF: Faisal Samra, 27

The midfield remains a strong section of the pitch for the Basians. Shehadeh brings a strong leadership presence to the center of the formation, and has the incredible ability to make plays out of thin air exactly when needed. The players in midfield are older on average than the rest of the team, and the young squad will value playing alongside more experienced footballers. On the younger side of the lineup is Ramada, who saw some play in qualifying, will be keen to score meaningful first-team appearances in games that Shehadeh needs a breather in.

Offense

LW: Hideki Nazar, 26
CF: Casildo Hana, 20
FW: Antwaun Kamara, 20

RW: Akili Granada, 23
FW: Jan Moustafa, 24
FW: Numair Mahmoud, 22

The offense has been abuzz in weeks past about the sidelining of Akili Granada, and the absence of his brother, 27 year old Ubayy Granada. The two have been furious about the situation, and say little word has been given to them by the manager. The newcomer in the starting three is Antwaun Kamara, only 20, who had minor playing time in WCQ. The Basian media is finding new profit heights off of their coverage of the events. The offense, a priority for most Basian footballers, will have the majority of the fan’s attention throughout the early stages as players and managers make adjustments.

Demonym: Sendhangite
Nickname: The Rice Farmers

Overview

Sendhang or Federation of Sendhang is a a landlocked nation located in the Melayu Archipelago on the Melayu Mainland. It has a land border with Acastanha, Kayangan, Springmont, Havynwilde, Bachok, and Samudera Darussalam. Sendhang consists of a federal territory and 4 states namely Lemah Banyu, Alamsunda, Putrasia, and Nainhá.

Football in Sendhang is governed by the newly-formed Persatuan Sepakbola Seluruh Sendhang (PS3). PS3 was officially formed over a year ago. Before the formation of PS3, football in Sendhang was governed separately by each of the state FAs. There was no Sendhang national team prior to the formation of PS3.

The formation of PS3 also paved the way for a new national league, the Liga Super Sendhang (LSS) which kicked off its inaugural season 2 years ago. There was no national league before the introduction of LSS. Each of the state FAs organized their league separately before that.

The 89th World Cup qualifier was Sendhang's second-ever participation in the most prestigious national football team tournament in the world in which they finished 4th out of 10th nations in the group table of the qualifier, a much more commendable performance than in their first try at qualification where they finished 9th out of 10th nations in the qualifiers. Sendhang is currently ranked 96th in the world.

PS3 Complex & Facilities

Image

PS3 is headquartered at PS3 Complex in Kambang, the capital city of Sendhang. The complex is located in an area of 55 hectares in the southern part of the Capital Region of Kambang.

It is equipped with the 40,000 seaters national stadium, the Federal Stadium or locally known as Stadium Persekutuan, an older 20,000 seaters stadium, the Unity Stadium or locally known as Stadium Perpaduan, an office block, an accommodation block, a gymnasium, and 3 training pitches.

When PS3 was formed, the facilities were immediately transferred to the new football governing body. The facilities were managed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports before PS3 was formed.

The Federal Stadium is an all-seater multi-purpose stadium and the home ground of the Sendhang national football team. The Federal Stadium has a capacity of 40,000 making it the largest football stadium in Sendhang. All Sendhang home matches will be held at the Federal Stadium.

Staffs & Tactics

Head Coach: Teuku Syarkawi

Teuku Syarkawi is the former head coach of KS Tapaklaboh, the most successful club in Putrasia in the States League era before the introduction of Liga Super Sendhang. His appointment as the first head coach of the Sendhang national team was made a week after PS3 was officially announced. It was an easy decision for the decision-makers in PS3 as Syarkawi is a very highly-rated head coach among football enthusiasts in Sendhang especially Putrasia.

He led Sendhang into its debut competition in the 7th Melayu Archipelago Cup in Pemecutan in which Sendhang won once, drew three times, and lost once. Sendhangite, especially the people in the corridors of power at PS3 Complex were generally happy with the performance of the national team in Pemecutan and put their faith in Syarkawi to continue leading the national team by extending his contract for 3 years which still has a little over a year to go.

The current mood in the corridor of power at PS3 complex is that he will get a contract extension after the good performances in the World Cup 89 qualifiers but all of that could change with a bad performance in the next 2 main competitive tournaments Sendhang will participate in, the 81st Cup of Harmony and the 9th Melayu Archipelago Cup.

Style Modifier : -2
Formation : 4-1-2-3 DM

Teuku Syarkawi is a defensive-minded counter-attacking coach. He prefers to play with a defensive midfielder to protect the back four and to start counter-attacks. This is accompanied by two quick wingers that will sit deep to help the defense when they don't have the ball and get in position to launch a counter-attack while in transition when they have just won the ball.

Syarkawi prefers his team to be very disciplined in defending. His team will sit deep and frustrate the opponent for 90 minutes if needed. He doesn't believe in possession football. He wants his team to be very direct and quick when attacking. As he said, "possession doesn't win games. Goal does. Keep it tight at the back and hit team on the break."

Players
Starting Line Up in bold

Goalkeeper

Image

GK: Albertus Wageo (CAPTAIN)
Age: 30
Club: KS Larantuka
30 Caps, 9 Clean Sheets

Albertus Wageo is the Liga Super Sendhang’s goalkeeper of the year for 2 years in a row. He signed for KS Larantuka from PS Oelmasi at the start of the inaugural Liga Super Sendhang on a free transfer. The Oelmasi-born goalkeeper helped his new club to a second-place finish in the inaugural season before leading the club to the league title this season, conceding the least goal in both seasons. His selection as the captain of the national team 2 years ago has been an honor for him. His leadership, integrity, influence, and high social skills are what the coach sees in him. Syarkawi believed that Wageo as a captain could unite the new squad which comprises of players from different backgrounds.

Bench:

Image

GK: Monyet Pasuryan
Age: 27
Club: Persejo Kratonredjo
0 Cap

Monyet Pasuryan's ability in guarding the Persejo Kratonredjo goal in the inaugural season of Liga Super Sendhang deserved a thumbs up and earned him a call-up to the national team. The 27 years old Kratonredjo-born sweeper goalkeeper was ever-present for the club from the state capital of Lemah Banyu for the past 2 seasons. He only conceded 21 times in the 22 matches in the first season and 22 times in 22 matches in the latest season. This record led Persejo Kratonredjo to be the 4th least conceded team in the inaugural Liga Super Sendhang season and the 2nd least conceded team in the latest season.

GK: Atep Ramadani, 24 - KS Danokota

Defender

Image

DR: Teuku Hamzah
Age: 24
Club: KS Tapaklaboh
27 Caps, 0 Goal

Small and cunning, that is how the media described Teuku Hamzah. He is one of the four KS Tapakbaloh players called up by Syarkawi to the national team, their former head coach. His performance in the last 2 seasons convinced Syarkawi to call him up for national duty. Sendhangite will be looking for him to use his speed and agility to make overlap to open the space for Sendhang down the wing.

Image

DC: Teuku Muhammad Bari
Age: 29
Club: KS Tapaklaboh
26 Caps, 0 Goal

Teuku Muhammad Bari is a strong and commanding center-back. He is very highly rated by Syarkawi who coached him at KS Tapaklaboh but Bari is not a player that football fans in Putrasia are interested in because of his temperament. While he is a regular player for his club, he is also a regular on the referee's notebook for the yellow and red cards. He is often seen kicking the opponent's leg, sometimes he is in trouble for it but sometimes he gets away with it. His disciplinary record is bad. Nevertheless, he won the Liga Super Sendhang best defender of the year award in the inaugural Liga Super Sendhang season. His ability to mark, tackle and close down opponents is enough for Syarkawi to call him up. He is also an asset when defending or attacking a set-piece due to his heading ability and jumping reach.

Image

DC: Putra Lumipada
Age: 29
Club: Persejo Kratonredjo
26 Caps, 1 Goal

Putra Lumipada consistently led the back four of Persejo Kratonredjo for the past 3 seasons. His role for his club is irreplaceable. The ball-playing defender was third on the Liga Super Sendhang’s best defender of the year award last season behind Teuku Muhammad Bari and Niko Kefalo and second in the latest season behind Niko Kefalo. The 29 years old Kratonredjo-born who is also the captain of Persejo Kratonredjo was very commanding throughout the last 2 seasons and kept his backline very disciplined.

Image

DL: Niko Kefalo
Age: 27
Club: KS Larantuka
23 Caps, 0 Goal

The 27 years old defender of KS Larantuka is the star player of his club helping his club to 3 Liga Mese Nainhá and a Liga Super Sendhang title. His consistent performance earned him the defender of the year award this season. He is entering his eight-year with KS Larantuka after his contract was extended for another 3 years last season.

Bench:
DR: Edo Rungao, 25 - FS Waingapu - 3 Caps, 0 Goal
DC: Kensiu Lanoh, 29 - Perseguput Gunung Putri - Uncapped
DC: Dadan Winata, 24 - KS Danokota - Uncapped
DL: Jahut Seletar, 25 - Perseguput Gunung Putri - 3 Caps, 0 Goal

Midfielder

Image

DM: Josua Beripeda
Age: 28
Club: KS Larantuka
25 Caps, 1 Goal

The call-up of Beripeda 2 years ago was quite surprising. The regista was playing for PS Ruteng which is a middle-level club in Nainhá. The club never even reached the top 4 of Liga Mese Nainhá but Beripeda's performance caught the eye of Teuku Syarkawi. His flexibility is amazing. Although originally a defensive midfielder, he could move forward to help the attack. He is also comfortable playing as a sweeper. This versatility makes Beripeda a unique addition to the national team. He signed for the champion of Nainhá, KS Larantuka before the inaugural Liga Super Sendhang season to challenge himself at the highest level in Sendhang football and it was arguably the best transfer of the season as Beripeda went on to become the Liga Super Sendhang’s best play of the year for 2 years in a row and helped KS Larantuka to clinch the title this season.

Image

MC: Teuku Hassan Al Qari
Age: 31
Club: KS Tapaklaboh
23 Caps, 0 Goal

Teuku Hassan Al-Qari is the captain of KS Tapaklaboh. He is very highly respected by his teammates. He spent his entire career with KS Tapaklaboh. The emergence of Teuku Herman 2 seasons ago, a KS Tapaklaboh academy graduate challenged Hassan's place in the starting eleven but Syarkawi is confident that Hassan can maintain his form and skills for the foreseeable future and deserved his place in the starting eleven of the national team. His main quality is his creativity, vision, and passing ability. Hassan is another player that the national team can rely on to take the free kicks and corner kicks.

Image

MC: Nanang Wirajuda
Age: 29
Club: KS Danokota
23 Caps, 4 Goals

Nanang Wirajuda was a key player for KS Danokota for the past few seasons in which they clinched the Liga Perdana Alamsunda title in the last 3 seasons before Liga Super Sendhang was introduced. He is usually deployed as an advanced playmaker or a box-to-box midfielder at his club. Sendhangite will be looking to see Nanang replicate his club form for the national team especially with his composure, long-range passing, and high stamina. He is the deal-ball specialist for his club and the national team.

Bench:
DM: Jorok Mendriq, 22 - Perseguput Gunung Putri - 4 Caps, 0 Goal
MC: Wedhus Geni, 25 - KS Gunung Kayasu - 4 Caps, 0 Goal
MC: Teuku Herman, 20 - KS Tapaklaboh - Uncapped

Forward

Image

AMR: Ramon Kalbasi
Age: 25
Club: KS Larantuka
4 Caps, 1 Goal

Ramon Kalbasi is one of the standout performers for KS Larantuka in the past 2 seasons, in which they finished as runner-up before clinching the title this season. His trickery and dribbling skills caught the eye of many and earned him a spot in the Liga Super Sendhang’s best XI of the year award in both Liga Super Sendhang seasons so far. The right inside forward is also a huge threat in terms of goalscoring as he went on to be the second top goalscorer in the league behind Teuku Salahuddin in both seasons.

Image

AML: Cezar Nowela
Age: 24
Club: KS Larantuka
2 Caps, 1 Goal

Unlike most of the players in the national team squad, Cezar Nowela was not part of the original squad that participated in the 7th Melayu Archipelago Cup, Sendhang's first-ever competitive international tournament. The left inside forward was only called up last year after his performance with KS Larantuka in the first few Liga Super Sendhang matches last season caught the eye of Teuku Syarkawi. Sendhangite will be looking for Nowela’s pace when hitting the opponent on the break as well as getting into the opponent’s penalty box for a goalscoring chance.

Image

ST: Teuku Salahuddin
Age: 21
Club: KS Tapaklaboh
3 Caps, 0 Goal

Teuku Salahuddin confirmed his status as the best striker in the country last season after winning 3 end-of-season Liga Super Sendhang awards, the most award won by a single player. Salahudin led the line of attack for Sendhang for the first time in the World Cup 89 qualifiers after winning the striker of the year, young player of the year as well as the golden boot award. The Cup of Harmony 81 will be Salahudin's second tournament as the main striker. Standing at only 170cm, Salahuddin is miniature in size but very quick and clinical in finishing.

Bench:
Image

AMR - Temiar Kintak
Age: 28
Club: Perseguput Gunung Putri
23 Caps, 1 Goal

Temiar Kintak is not known for his goalscoring ability but he ticked all the boxes preferred by Syarkawi to fill this position. He is a very hardworking player who will help the defense, probably run on 3 lungs because he never gets tired and most importantly has the pace and trickery to launch a counter-attack when they won the ball.

Image

AML: Keylar Samoi
Age: 28
Club: KS Gunung Kayasu
24 Caps, 4 Goals

Keylar Samoi is the main attacking threat for his club, KS Gunung Kayasu in Liga Lemah Banyu. He mainly plays on the left-wing but is also comfortable playing as a striker. His main strength is his pace, dribbling, and long shot.

Image

ST - Gusti Sing Nggawe
Age: 29
Club: Perserejo Kratonredjo
24 Caps, 16 Goals

Gusti Sing Nggawe was the star of the national team before Teuku Salahudin took over that role. He was the top goal scorer of Liga Lemah Banyu 2 seasons ago and helped Pesisir United to a third-place finish, enough for them to earn a spot in the new Liga Super Sendhang last season. He gained national prominence last year after scoring 5 of the 7 goals for Sendhang in the 7th Melayu Archipelago Cup especially after scoring the winning goal against Trolleborg. He then went on to score 16 goals in his first 13 international appearances. He is a very good header of the ball, has good first touch, and is very sharp in the penalty box but lost his place to Salahudin after a bad year in front of goal last year. He moved to Perserejo Kratonredjo at the start of this season to rejuvenate his touch in front of goal and helped his new club to a second-place finish as the third-highest scoring player in the league behind Teuku Salahudin and Ramon Kalbasi.

See You Tomorrow, or Someday
Part I: Absence Makes the Heart Grow Weary
Mertagne 2-4 Eshialand

Dannin, Mertagne and Denison, Super-Llamaland

"Hello, Rebecca?"
"Hey George!"
"So, how has life been in Denison?"
"Well, honestly... it's been tough. Not having you around these past five months... it's been a real challenge."
"Wait, five months?"
"Time, remember?"
"Ah, right, time makes no sense in the multiverse... so how are the Dynamo--"
"I don't wanna talk about it..."
"Oh, okay then... do you know when the season will be done?"
"A month or so, and then I'm gonna be out of here, hopefully... do you know where you'll be playing the Cup of Harmony?"
"Depending on how the draw goes, either Zwangzug or Sylestone for the group stage, and who knows from there."
"That's somewhat good news, if you go to Sylestone, I should be able to make it in time for your last group stage match..."
"Really?"
"Yeah, but if you go to Zwangzug... I don't think there's any way I could get a flight in time..."
"Well, let's just hope we get Sylestone then."
"Tell me as soon as the draw happens so I can make my travel arrangements, alright?"
"Yeah of course... hey, I have to go, we're about to play a friendly against Mertagne..."
"Oh, don't worry, I get it, ha ha... talk to you later then."
"I love you Rebecca..."
"I love you too George..."

George shut his laptop, hoping that soon, he'd get to have more than an awkward video call with Rebecca. It had been three months since he last saw her, and he didn't want to wait three more...

"Hey George, is everything okay?" Jake Harran asked his best friend and teammate before the kickoff in Dannin City Stadium.
"Can I be completely honest with you?"
"Always."
"...I've just been thinking about Rebecca again."
"Is everything okay with her?"
"Yeah, but her not being there has really hit me hard lately. Harder than usual..."
"Look, I can't begin to know what it's like to have your girlfriend on the other side of the multiverse, but I've spent a lot of time away from Alice before, so I think I could help a bit."
"How?"
"Just relax. Focus on taking everything one day at a time. Everything will work out in the end, trust me."

...

"Everything will work out, George."

Mertagne - 2 (Thundhart 29'; Vantula 83')
Eshialand - 4 (Harran 14', 58'; Meilling 36'; Longfield 75')
Anything I say is IC unless proven otherwise by a court of law.

FORMATION / FORMACION

STYLE OF PLAY / ESTILO DE JUEGO
Style Modifier: +2
Description: Alfonzo Medrano likes to play attacking football with three players up front, with tall striker Amunategui in the middle and abundance of wingers capable of playing multiple positions at their disposal. The three players upfront is mandatory in his lineups, and he prefers the 4-3-3 over the 3-4-3 formation due to lack of central defenders in his squad. He may also play 2-5-3 depending on the situation. They also employ a physical brand of football where players commit to tackles and prefer to roughen up the opposition.

The team prefer the usage of wingers to deliver the ball to the box via low to high crosses, and does not prefer to keep the ball at the middle of the park. Corners are usually delivered via crosses with the ball kicked from the corner spot.

Medrano is a calm man and is less likely to react violently to partial calls. His coaching staff however, have a quirk to start touchline brawls.

Most likely to:
Score penalties: Quevedo, Amunategui, Vertiz
Score a direct free kick: Quevedo, Berriz, Palmero
Concede a penalty: Puma, Aranaz, Coro
Booked for short temper: Puma, Duran, Maquibar

CHARTISTANI NATIONAL TEAM
Squad for the 81st Cup of Harmony

About Chartistan

The Musicalistic Union of the Cities of Chartistan (Often just Chartistan) is a nation in the region of Sonnel. The capital city, Billboard, is where most of the residents live and work, and is also home to the main governing jurisdiction of the country. Other major cities include Official City, Gaon and Aria.

About the National Team

The Chartistani national team picture varies from week to week as do the Chartistani... Charts. The Chartistani NT was decided by this week's Chartistani Hot Chart, a 100 player index of the top players in Chartistan, the Bubbling Under Hot Chart, a 25 player index of up and comers, and whatever other chart we could find.

The main Chartistani home kit is purple with blue accents, while the away kit is mostly black.

Manager: Doctor Lucas Combbrush
A Musicville district citizen of Chartistan's largest city Billboard, Doctor Combbrush has been inside and outside the game of football for the last few years as a player and a manager. Having the honor of being player-manager for the World Cup 89 qualifiers, his team finished 3rd in a qualifying group with Starblaydia, Quebec, Sharktail and Murderbum, and he hopes, again as a player-manager now in the Hot 11, his team improves on the 3 draws he had in the last Cup of Harmony's group.

Q&A about the Sentient Objects of Kirkham

Q: How do the ovens cook their food?
A: Easy. All they need to do is get someone or something to put the food inside them (many have mechanical arms, etc.), and then they themselves can choose how to cook that food.

Q: Do the refrigerators own refrigerators themselves?
A: No. Duh.

Q: How do they reproduce?
A: Hmm, good question. In order for reproduction to occur, you need two Toilets, or two Fridges, or two whatever. Those two Objects then do stuff (which varies depending on the type), and the result is another Sentient Object!

Q: Do toilets need the toilet like humans do?
A: No. They’re toilets for a reason.

Q: Can a human own a Sentient Object or vice versa?
A: Do NOT even think about it. Sentient Objects and humans live on equal footing in Sylestone, and it is a huge crime to own one of the opposite… culture.

Q: How do Sentient Objects feel about non-sentient objects?
A: They laugh at them because they’re lesser beings. Well, not even beings at all, really.

Q: What happens if there is a power outage?
A: All Sentient Objects run on their own electricity (if they need it), so nothing.

Q: If you unplug an appliance and then plug it back in, is it a persistent conscious state?
A: See above answer.

Q: Is it torture to keep a broken Sentient Object operational?
A: When a Sentient Object breaks, it sometimes dies. Fortunately, this happens very rarely and when it does, the treatment is usually very quick.

Q: Is there intra-sentient racism?
A: No. All Sentient Objects live on equal footing.

Q: How do they see?
A: They have big googly eyes that help them see.

Q: What happens if you slowly exchange parts between Sentient Objects until they’re completely switched?
A: This cannot happen, it is physically impossible.

Q: Are there organs?
A: Yes. Sentient Objects have a brain-like organ somewhere in their body, which makes them sentient.

Q: Do Sentient Objects have brains?
A: Yes, see above.

Q: If a Sentient Object dies, do organ transplants occur?
A: Only if a Sentient Object of the same type requires a new brain-like organ.

Q: Do Sentient Objects feel pain?
A: Yes, although only in extreme circumstances.

Q: Does Sentient Object crime occur often?
A: Exceeding rarely, but it is not unheard of.

Q: What classic literature do Sentient Objects prefer? Do they admire the Mona Lisa or the Apple Lisa?
A: Er, depends on the Sentient Object, I guess.

Q: How do Sentient Objects walk around?
A: Depends. Many bounce around, but those that are lucky enough to have legs use them.

Q: How were the Sentient Objects created?
A: Ah, good question. So basically, no one knows. At one point in history following the colonisation of Sylestone, a big band of Sentient Objects decided to combine together for whatever reason and cast a “forgetfulness” spell on everyone in the nation, including themselves. It means that Sylestonean history is rich and thick going back 500 years, but no longer, as no one remembers what happened before then. This event is known as the Big Forget.

Q: How do strip clubs work in Kirkham?
A: Not even going to bother answering this.

The Squad List

The Grim Reapers' usual formation is 4-2-1-3, which can turn into either a conventional 4-3-3 for normal circumstances, a 4-1-2-3 for defensive purposes, or a 4-2-4 (with the attacking midfielder going forward) when the offence is needed. The Grim Reapers are always looking to attack and maul their opponents, with continuous off-ball movements expected from them. Because of this, transition play becomes the team's strength and weakness at the same time. The streakiness of the squad's forms, even on minute-by-minute basis, is notorious, and that's a problem that needs to be solved in due time.

For the squad info right below, those marked in bold are the starters, while the key substitutes are marked underlined.

Last cycle, finally, at long last, a Groothuis-led team qualified for the World Cup. The Black-and-Reds very nearly advanced to the second round out of a difficult group as well. It has been a long road for the Confederacy to make it to this point, but there is no time for resting on laurels, as the ever-businesslike Groothuis is sure to remind her team. Now her attention must turn to the task of repeating last cycle's achievements, and improving on them. The failure to make the playoffs from qualification is a definite disappointment, and the SCFA will be expecting Groothuis and her team to make up for that shortcoming at the Cup of Harmony. Fortunately, the second half of qualifying was marked by a resurgence in form and a 7-0-2 record that in the end only fell just short of making up for the team's early stumbles. While the home loss to Nephara on the final matchday that allowed Tumbra to overtake the Black-and-Reds was disheartening, the team can hopefully ride the momentum of the four-match winning streak heading into that loss to deliver a good showing here.
Long Form Name: The Confederacy of Squornshelan Remnant States
Short Form Names: Squornshelan Confederacy, The Confederacy, United Squornshelous
Demonyms: Confederate (political); Squornshelan (cultural, not always PC)
Ethnicites in the Confederacy include Squornshelan, Molvanian, Brantid, Algolian, Sivolvian, and Han. If you are curious about a particular player's ethnicity you can send me a TG or message me on discord
Team Nickname: Black-and-Reds (never Red-and-Blacks)
Team Colors: Confederate Red (#EE0000) and Black (#000000)
Formation: 4-2-3-1

The Story of Late . . .

To say it has been a turbulent few years in Squornshelous would be a massive understatement.

Nearly a century ago, the nation was torn in two by a civil war. Squornshelous proper, located on an eponymous island, remained under the iron hand of the Imperium. The seven provinces had been known as West Squornshelous, some distance across the Far Sea from the seat of Imperial power, gained their independence. Uniting as the Confederacy of Squornshelan Remnant States, they settled into an uneasy standoff with the Imperium looming across the straights. It's uncertain whether the dimensional barrier that later surrounded the island of Squornshelous was the result of some hideous weapon unleashed during the war, or merely some coincidental natural phenomenon. Whatever the root cause, the Confederacy and Imperium sat for the better part of 100 years, glowering mistrustfully through shifting dimensional gateways and across a scant couple hundred miles of water.

Following a series of increasingly visible international incidents surrounding the former Imperial national team, a long smoldering insurgency burst forth into full blown civil war. Thankfully, the tide of opinion both in the generally public and among the Imperial military had turned so overwhelmingly against Emperor Sweyn Petrov and his government that the fighting itself was mercifully brief. The Emperor and his ministers were captured by revolutionary forces, and the loyalist forces capitulated soon thereafter. In the aftermath of the revolution, the dimensional barriers dissolved away, suggesting some link to the country's division. As the proverbial dust cleared, the two sundered nations found themselves once again inhabiting the same plane, coming to rest in the unsubstantiated regions left behind by the disruption of the Foxchester nations abrupt removal from Atlantian Oceania. Now, the various provinces and urban districts of the Imperium have one by one applied for membership in the Confederacy, and while the cogs of government turn at a glacial pace, it now seems inevitable that Squornshelous will once again be a single nation.

This cycle, the entirety of Squornshelous will compete as a united nation for the first time since World Cup 41. While the political processes of admitting the various former Imperial provinces and districts into the Confederacy is a lengthy one, the SCFA has extended a blanket invitation to all players whose province has at least taken the initial step of applying for membership. Accordingly, several players from the former Imperial national team, who also competed at AOCAF LXIV will likely be called up over the course of qualifying. This influx of new players competing for playing time could certainly prove a disruption to team chemistry and cohesion, but hopefully Groothuis can incorporate them well.

Paiva Shimski - Played her youth football and the early seasons of her senior career at Sporting Jaglan. In their hyper-attacking system, she developed a reputation as a reliable backstop who could make the acrobatic saves often required of her as the opposition countered, something she's continued to show off in Nephara.
Guro Anthonsson - A very active sweeper-keeper who challenges shooters, and is comfortable playing well off his line and even outside the box.
Hekima Drenel - Drenel is an aggressive shot stopper, playing almost as a sweeper keeper at times, and distributes the ball well to launch counterattacks. Doesn't play quite so far out as Anthonsson though.
Valda Harkhan - Pugnacious and aggressive both in attack and defense. Can run all day long if she doesn't get herself sent off early.
Iosif Chaika - More of a stay at home fullback than a wingback these days. Soft-spoken, content to be a role player and let others take the spotlight.
Taisiya Achhoven - Well-rounded player, also primarily a defensive mindset, but very comfortable with the ball at her feet despite that.
Jirar Malgos - Likes to get forward when he can, but good enough at reading the play not to get caught out too often. Has a knack for last-second sliding challenges.
Walda Harkhan - Quite simply the greatest defender in SRS history. Her club-level accolades are unimpeachable, but
Ljuba Buczvarov - Featured prominently on one of the best back lines of the S-FPL season, Buczvarov is adept at marking and very difficult to dribble past.
Ayli Galdra - A tough leader with a good instinct for positioning how to use her strength and physicality.
Aryel Ciernik - A physical force on set pieces and challenges. Occasionally a little slow to get her long legs moving in the right direction though.
Mithya Hashemi - Perhaps the most well-rounded and adaptable midfielder on the roster, Hashemi has the size, skill set, and endurance of a true box-to-box midfielder.
Selvala Tabur - Holding midfielder adept at winning the ball back with finesse rather than brute force. Far from one dimensional though, and contributes to the attack as well.
Damnagoras - An inspired, creative force in the attack, frequently working as a Raumdeuter to pop up where the defense least inspect them for a quick shot or incisive pass.
Purna Zazagan - Has had some breakout performances in the Zenith recently as a do-it-all midfielder with a real knack for slashing runs through the middle of the defense.
Iuri Takala - Adept at both distribution and shooting, but struggled to find his stride in qualifying. The captain will ride the bench for now, but is ready to step in when needed.
Tyra Volam - A generalist by trade, but an attacker by nature. Volam is a playmaker, whether deep-lying or advanced, and excels at finding the right space to put her passes into.
Lavanya Naqvi - A technical wizard who has given opposing fullbacks fits for years now for both club and country.
Jzeovak Vladcik - Does a little less cutting inside and scoring of his own than he did in his athletic prime, but still a dangerously creative player, even if assists are more common these days.
Ikra Yonte - Yonte has honed her natural pace with an excellent technical turn of skill since first arriving in Kelssek, and added sufficient nuance to her direct attacking approach to be a very dangerous winger.
Havard Popov - Primarily a scoring winger. Excellent acceleration when dribbling against defenders and a deadly accurate shot. Does pick up a decent number of assists, but more often after cutting inside, rather than by launching large numbers of crosses.
Kaalia Gerstlauer - Excellent technician and shooter, her only real deficiency is in pure brute strength. Coming into the tournament on an excellent run of form with 10 goals scored during the second half of qualifying.
Lyzolda Petrov - The complete package at striker: one-time Karlingsport Galacticos First 11 honoree, Zenith golden boot winner,
Lyyti Vang - Tall and lanky with a preternatural nose for goal. Excels at creating scoring chances seemingly out of nothing. As likely to talk about political issue of the day in interviews as on-field performance.

Reengineering - Part 1

HFF Headquarters, Huayramarca D.M. - 05/09/1984 – 10:45 P.M.

The Huayramarcan National Football team has hit an inflection point, that’s known by pretty much everybody after not getting enough in the last World Cup Qualifier window while tying Martune at home, Tumbra away and obliterating Northwestern Kalactin in vain at Sechura. Eliezer González, the head of the Huayramarcan Football Federation was asked by the press “What does the HFF has in mind for the team’s future?” His answer was a straightforward: “Omar Caicedo will continue as a manager”, indicating that the relationship with the manager continues to be stronger as it always has been.

Although, winds of change are noticed at Jirón Independencia 227 (Where the HFF headquarters are located), some friendlies in order to analyze the performance of the team in overall, that started badly with a 0-2 defeat against Atheara in Guayaquil have sunken the boat a bit more for the fans and pundits, changes are needed and they consider that a shaking off of the National Team, similar to a purge, will be needed in order to see improvements in a process that shows signs of stagnation.

The Huayramarcan Football Federation called for press conference two days after the friendly with the Athearan National Team, it seemed to be a quite weird situation out there according to some of us in the press, the environment was feeling like it was about to happen, and yes, I talk about the firing of Omar Caicedo, instead of that, the following happened:

Omar Caicedo took the mic and said: “I’d like to apologize the fans about what has happened, there are structural mistakes that we need to analyze and work on them in order to take this ship to the place it was navigating two cycles ago.” A colleague from Diario El Comercio asked: “Have you analyzed any structural situation that might need to be fixed?” Caicedo said: “That’s what we are about to do.”

González, the president of the Huayramarcan Football Federation asked the press to stay in the hall, as a meeting was about to be held with Caicedo and some other members of the institution to analyze movements for the team, keeping an eye for the upcoming Cup of Harmony. Despite press was invited to stay, for obvious reasons they weren’t allowed to stay on the room and listen to what was about to happen there or the consensus reached with managers and the directors board of the HFF.

As the doors closed up, rumors started to appear among the media, some of those were incredibly elaborated and others seemed to be outright lies or fiction: Two were the most dominant ones, being those: “There’s a random guy that will help Omar Caicedo as a second assistant manager” and the second one being “There’s a possibility that disciplinary action will be taken against some NT players because they gave ayahuasca to some Kalactinian players during the 5-0 routing at Sechura”.

The first one wasn’t clear enough, as names lacked around and people wondered “Is there somebody capable in Huayramarca to do this task?” So, suppositions were pointing out abroad, as that would be the most probable place where an assistant manager would to support the Huayramarcan NT in this particular moment. Doubts arise and people weren’t capable to provide a name, so they tried to focus more in figuring out that an Anaian manager would be hired to help the team with some experience, mindset building skills and, of course, helping to ease the decision-making process from Omar Caicedo in critical moments.

The second one was a more intense one, as there were videos flooding social media like Quipu, Twii.tur, WeTube, Facebooke, etc. where Kalactinian players were running erratically in the field, some others vomited while playing; that would be quite comprehensible if the match would be played at the altiplano, specially at the Huayramarcan Metropolitan District, but the match was hosted by Sechura, a city in the jungle and close to the Krytenian border. There weren’t any logical connections to said behavior, hence, people considered that it had to be an alcohol antic made by some unknown agent.

It was mere suppositions until that moment, nothing clear, nothing official. Meanwhile, inside the meeting:

Omar Caicedo was playing one of his final cards: “We need somebody that could inspire the players and help me to take decisions while on a critical moment, preferably somebody experienced in the big leagues!” The decision was met with some stares and chuckles from González and other members of the HFF board “You must be kidding. Government supports us a lot, but to fulfill your request we need lots of money that we don’t have.” An outright lie, as the HFF closed the latest fiscal year with green numbers, but they wanted to economize money, or worst, to rob it in corruption schemes.

“But, if we want to improve this, extra efforts should be ma…” Said Caicedo while being interrupted by a janitor cleaning “I know I’m a janitor, but please let me suggest somebody, he’s able to come right now to this meeting” … Everybody accepted in surprise, so the janitor took his phone and said “Sir, there are some people at the Huayramarcan Football Federation, including Mr. Caicedo, that wants to talk with you for potential job issues.” The janitor activated the speaker, the random person said “I’ll arrive as soon as possible with my curriculum and evidence they might need.” He ended the phone call, González said “I hope you called somebody competent enough for us, as we need it”. The janitor looked him straight, waved hands and said “I promise you that you won’t regret.” The janitor remained there as he opened the door, the press was distracted by him when the random person entered to the room, nobody noticed him and they closed the door once again.

Murmurs in the press hall were heard, some of those said “Has a janitor interrupted their meeting?” Deceptively, somebody said: “He will clean the National Team”. A sarcastic comment that, surprisingly, would be accurate to describe what was about to happen.

The person removed his hoodie, gave a CV to everybody in the room, photo albums and severe medals were put in the table. González despectively took three medals, laughing, and said “Let’s see what’s this.” He took his glasses and read “Cup of Harmony 63 – Champion; World Cup 74 – Runner-up; World Cup Hall of Fame” his jaw dropped and everybody noticed it, David Castro, a member of the board asked “Who are you?” The random player turned his back, showing a shirt who read “Rodolfo Zelaya – 22”, then turned back and said “My name is Rodolfo Zelaya, legend of the old Guayabalense NT, had to flee my country due to war and famine, I arrived in Huayramarca and learned about modern football enough to help the Condors in their struggle.”

The janitor said: “I can prove that he’s Rodolfo Zelaya, in fact, I’m a Guayabalense migrant and I saw him one day on Sechura when we beat Nephara 2-1, my eyes couldn’t believe it until I saw his tattoos.” He continued “If there’s someone capable to take this team to a better place, he’s the right one that Omar Caicedo wants to have.” Caicedo asked Zelaya “What have you won as a player?” Zelaya gave his medals and honors to Caicedo, then said “A Cup of Harmony, three UICA Champions’ Cup, some AOCAF Club Tournaments, runner-up in two World Cups and a hall of fame inductee.”

Caicedo was amazed that such a person would appear in front of him, godsent, ready to help him in the crisis the team was facing. González said “Just saw who you are in the internet, I’m still surprised on how you survived and arrived here. Mr. Caicedo, is he enough for you?” Caicedo said “More than enough”. Paperwork was signed, the door was opened and the committee arrived with Caicedo and Zelaya together, González said: “I’m content to announce that we have hired, as an assistant manager, Rodolfo Zelaya, 36 years old who played for teams such as Northbrook Diamonds, 1830 Cathair, the old Guayabalense National Team for the next five cycles.”

Surprise reigned on the floor, the press didn’t know who he was, to the point one of them asked: “Have you ever had experience in World Cups? Zelaya said “Yes, I’ve had experience before in that.” Then, the press chuckled as he answered, they were in disbelief on what was happening, to the point that no more questions were asked and the rotative printers put “An amateur ex-footballer will be the new assistant manager of the Huayramarcan NT.”

Zelaya read the newspapers the following day, he laughed hard and said “They can say whatever they want, hard job will speak for itself.” Zelaya threw a copy of Trome to the trash can and went to speak with the players of the Huayramarcan NT. Omar Caicedo introduced him and said: “He’s Rodolfo Zelaya, a person with a lot of experience that will help us, form now on, as an assistant manager of the team, he will build a strong mindset for all of us, and I’m sure of that, he has a lot to teach us.”

Abraham Mendoza, Bryan Tello and Ian Mamani immediately knew who was in front of them, they read about him and they felt comfortable, they will be in safe hands. Zelaya introduced himself and said “My name is Rodolfo Zelaya and we will reengineer this National Team.”

Cup of Harmony 81

Sargossa - 'The Corsairs'

Head Coach

Brian McAllister (Tikariot)
It’s a little while now since Brian McAllister swapped the relative comfort of being a number two for the crucible of international head coachery. A key part of the backroom team that masterminded Tikariot’s highly impressive arrival onto the world stage, McAllister led Sargossa to the Copa Rushmori title and a fourth place finish at the Cup of Harmony. But World Cup performances have been increasingly underwhelming.

Backroom Staff

Assistant Head Coach: Gregory Wallen (Tikariot)
Assistant Head Coach: Miguel Marí
Defensive Coach: Iker Conde
Attacking Coach: Jordi Suárez
Goalkeeping Coach: Dario Almirón
Fitness Coach: Luis Miguel Sacristán
Team Doctor: Dr Carla Segura

Talent

GK: 1. Alejandro Martínez (29) – Sportivo Soluca
GK: 13. Sergio Arrabal (29) – Alianza Jucaro
GK: 25. Zacarías Cotilla (20) – Rubio Bayamo

As a teenager Martínez was touted as a future star by no less a luminary as former Corsairs’ keeper and coach Martín Tejera. He’s know showing exactly why he earned that praise. Sergio Arrabal spent his formative years as a hugely talented understudy at Ciudad Soluca. He had to move to Alianza to finally prove he had what it takes to be a number one. Cotilla provides a very highly regarded back-up option.

DR: 2. Tobías Figueroa (24) – El Nacional
DC: 5. Juan Esnáider (34) – Oriannor Mountaineers (Tikariot)
DC: 6. Sebastián Cáceres (20) – Sporting San Marquez
DL: 3. Alfonso Barrueco (25) – Ciudad Soluca
DLC: 12. Víctor Miralles (31) – El Nacional
DRC: 14. Máximo Moya (27) – Sporting San Marquez
DL: 19. Juan Manuel Martí (30) – Sportivo Soluca
DC: 21: Joaquín Sanz (20) – El Nacional

A reversion to a back three seems to have solved some noticeable defensive issues suffered by the side in previous campaigns. The side has looked much harder to break down, as shown at the Copa Rushmori in Mytanija. The experienced Juan Esnáider remains the leader at the back but the coaching staff have been searching around for real quality at centreback. Sebastián Cáceres could be the answer. The barrios of San Marquez look to have produced another gem. Miralles and Moya look likely to battle it out for the third spot. Figueroa and Barrueco are both comfortable ranging forward, and represent potent weapons in attack. Often at the expensive of their defensive work.

DMC: 4. Esteban Pomar (32) – El Nacional
AMR: 7. Édgar Elvira (27) – Dínamo Maturín
MC: 8. Enrique González (27) – Ciudad Soluca
AML: 11. Esteban Leguizamo (32) – Blacklake Blues (Taeshan)
AMRC: 15. Agustín Soria (25) – Sportivo Soluca
MC: 16. Facundo Franco (19) – Estrella Torreón
DMC: 18. Marcos Águila (26) – El Nacional
MC: 22. Juan Sebastián Varela (27) – Alianza Jucaro
AMLC: 24. Martín de la Cavallería (20) – Dínamo Maturín

If the wingbacks don’t push forward in support, there’s a danger in the midfield duo becoming overwhelmed. So a pairing with plenty of lung capacity is a must. Enrique González has become one of the first names on the teamsheet and is likely to continue partnering Juan Sebastián Varela, with Marcos Águila pushing both hard for a starting berth. Midfield destroyer Esteban Pomar and some exciting prospects will likely see plenty of action from the bench. The initial delight shown by the wingers at the appointment of a coach who might actually use them in the preferred roles has worn off since the recent tactical tweak, having found themselves as plan Bs once again.

FLC: 9. Mauricio Sainz (30) – Ciudad Soluca
FRLC: 10. Diego Alejandro Costa (32) – Ciudad Soluca
FC: 17. Mateo Manzanares (24) – Dínamo Maturín
FRC: 20. Juan Pablo Montenegro (20) – Alianza Jucaro
FL: 23. Alonzo Bienvenida (32) – Sportivo Cordova

Scoring goals has never been too much of a problem for Sargossa so personnel in the offensive third are likely to remain largely unchanged. Mateo Manzanares has made the central striking role his own but Diego Alejandro Costa’s dip in form in the second half of qualifiers is unlikely to count against him. Alonzo Bienvenida proved a revelation at the Copa, cutting in from the right onto his favoured left foot and will likely keep his place. Juan Pablo Montenegro led the line at the Olympics and is an interesting prospect.

Style

Brian McAllister, alongside Stuart Ekstrom, implemented an attractive, fluid, attacking style on their Tikariot side. With a formation that was 4-3-3 in possession, 4-5-1 without it and plenty of movement, both on and off the ball. Swift, short passing and forwards switching positions to confuddle the opposition were also hallmarks of that Tikariot approach. The coach hasn’t quite been able to bring that tactical blueprint to bear in Sargossa. Unfortunately, while effective going forward, the Corsairs have been slightly woeful at the back. Which has led to something of a tactical rethink. In response McAllister has moved to meld a defensive form his charges are comfortable with, namely a back three, but still keeping the attacking flourish his own favoured system has displayed. Creating something akin to a hybrid 5-2-3.

The SuperLiga is quite a physical league so challenges can often be described as 'uncompromising' and cards are pretty common. Gamesmanship, while never encouraged, is also not entirely uncommon. But diving is considered particularly stigmatic so Sargossan players are unlikely to be found doing it.

Four Friendlies, Four Stories
So, to prepare for the upcoming 81st Cup of Harmony to be hosted by Sylestone and Zwangzug, the Blue Guard decided to have a mini tour for the upcoming tournament! And oh boy, there is some weird things going on behind the scenes, and it's not just the matches. Weirdness is also happening off the fields, whether it be about the players or about the fans, the people, or the entire area. But let's be honest, in this world, anything can be weird, not even joking or kidding. And now, here is the place where i try to explain what happened in these matches, and also, on a small note. We did two outrageous things that happened, not the off field things, but on it.

1. Atheara 5 - 1 The 14 Stars
Now, why did we play a friendly with a national team that isn't even participating in this cycle's shenanigans? Well, because it wasn't a national team. The 14 Stars had disbanded their NT after their uh, bad performance after WC88. So, to prepare for next cycle, they had the Athearan nt match up against a trial team to decide who will be part of next cycle's national team for The 14 Stars. The match was, an unsurprising result. What was surprising was that result however. They did use those, uh, what were they called again? Hissatsus? Yeah, but based on the result, it seems they were just for show. A good performance of trial, however so.

But, what's the story? Well, the story here was that there was this buffed up guy without his shirt, waving the Athearan flag and proceeded to slip and create this funny face whilst the camera was zooming on him. He is currently a meme in Atheara, but we kind of feel bad for him. Anyway, we proceeded to interview him and he said 'I am just enjoying it." His start to the rise to fame may see him good fortune and opportunity for being more than just a meme on a screen, and we are certain of him.

2. Atheara 3 - 2 Eshialand
This match is in itself is already a story. In football, before this game, Atheara was 0 - 0 - 3 against their rivals, Eshialand (who are also participating in this Cup of Harmony). The two El Recentico rivals had always fought in odd matches, with so far before this, every match ending in a 1 - 0 defeat for Atheara. One Baptism of Fire semifinals, and two friendlies. This time, the field gave the world a whole different story. And as usual of Atheara being masters of comebacks, Atheara scored the winning goal on the 2nd minute of added extra time. The first win for Atheara against Eshialand in football, but not just football. Remember the 17th WJHC? Yeah, if you add that one loss, Atheara was 0 - 0 - 4 against Eshialand until now. Seems we really are the underdogs in this newly growing and aspiring rivalry.

3. Adab 1 - 2 Atheara
So, we need to know a bit of context. Adab and Atheara were placed in group 4 of the WC88 Qualifiers. So, this matchup was a rematch on how far both sides have developed, as it seems. Atheara lost to Adab 1 - 0 and drew 0 - 0 during that qualifying stage, so a bit of sour taste was there when both sides entered this friendly, and Atheara was playing as the away team, so this was going to be interesting. Surprisingly, Atheara was able to scrape a 1 - 2 win after somehow an odd reboung from one of the Adabian players into their own net. A lucky goal they say, but in Atheara, all goals count. Whether they be lucky, calculated, or a bit of both in most case scenarios. This match puts Atheara at a 1 - 1 - 1 record against Adab, now what was the story for this match?

Apparently, during an interview, some fans decided to crash the backboard that was being used for the background of the interview. It was actually soon found out that these two guys were actually food delivery serviceman. Apparently they slipped on some water nearby and proceeded to crash onto the wall. Though, mistakes like this tend to happen, some were left quite unsatisfied because of that incident. But, we need to remember and ask, who didn't wipe the floor properly again? This has actually happened several times, and not a stand alone incident.

4. Huayraymarca 0 - 2 Atheara
And as always, the mastery of the defensive dark arts* helps Atheara once again. This is a surprising upset, considering that Atheara was playing away at Huayraymarca. A spot on defensive team on a good day, and an offense good enough to penetrate a good team. Though this is still a major upset, the biggest one is still Atheara beating up Drawkland 6 - 3. This match in itself was an odd story, and with that, the mini tour has Atheara winning all 4 games against several different teams with varying styles. This is all there is for Atheara's preperation for this years Cup of Harmony, let's hope the Blue Guard does their best in this tournament.

* = The name "defensive dark arts" came from me saying that i drew Ethane in our mid WCQ friendly with the help of the defensive dark arts and that i say he has taught me the defensive dark arts.

Savojar Roster for the Cycle 88 Cup of Harmony

TEAM

STAFF
Coach: Daniella Strauss (NPH)
Age: 57 // Coach since: WCQ 88 (MD 8)
After the Copa 37 had revealed stagnation on the regional level, and Rangren had been approached by her old friend and co-coach Lise Asbeck to take the helm at the Savojar top club Libertas Bergheim, she had resigned as Northlights head coach. Being left without a national coach, the SFFB has hired former Nephara manager Daniella Strauss in a competitive bidding process, making her the first foreign Savojarna manager in history. Unusually for Nepharim, she likes to keep ahold of the ball, but likes to play quick, aggressive football, with a high line choking the opposition. However, after disappointing results in World Cup Qualification as well as the Copa Rushmori, Daniella Strauss now holds the second worst point per game average of any Savojar manager, and it’s considered an open secret that her contract - which ends after the cycle - is unlikely to be prolonged.

Coaching Team: Alexey Jotanov, Mikael Södergren, Lasse Tjoer
Ages: 54, 41, 44 // Special functions: Video coach, Technical coach, Physical trainer
Jotanov is a rather creative tactical mind and one half of the U-21 co-coaching team. He has been brought on board as part of the WC90 project to create a more unified approach across the three Savojar national teams (adult, U21, U18). He will be here mainly to support with video trainings and tactics briefings.
Mikael Södergren has a history of a technical assistant coach at various SFS A teams, including the surprising Rotor Värstjö side of SFS Season 8 and being on the staff of the double-winning Partisan side of SFS Season 10. His job is to run day to day practice and give technical advice to players; besides his work with the national team, he currently is a trainer at the National Football Academy at Högvald, where he coaches and develops Savojarna’s biggest youth talents.
Lasse Tjoer is the physical coach and condition trainer, and has previously worked for multiple SFS A teams. He places a lot of emphasis on discipline, but gives the players a large amount of freedom to tune their practice regime to their own tastes as long as they stick to the targets. He is quite popular in the team, and a good motivator.

Goalkeeper Coach: Valtteri Andersson
Age: 53
Andersson was a long-term goalkeeper for Energie Thorsborg and got directly transferred into the club's youth department when he retired at age 33. Following some good work with the club's youth department, he got trained as a GK coach and worked with the first team and the U21 of Energie for a while before being brought onto the squad of the NT early on. He still works with Energie on the side and is reputed to be very good at developing a goalkeeper's weaknesses.

Doctor: Dr. Christer Ljungberg
Age: 59
Christer is the head of the medical team of the Savojar NT and generally has a reputation of being the team’s good soul. Many players have come to him over the years to discuss their insecurities or physical problems, to the point that many consider Ljungberg to essentially be a second mental coach.

In goal the big name remains Iiro Pakanen, a rock between the posts with a calm demeanor and a stable, consistent style, as well as quick reflexes. He is complimented by the shorter, yet more aware and controlling Aleksandra Virulainen, the SFS’s top goalkeeper; Sergey Sharin is a third keeper who will be unlikely to see play. In defence, Polina Zirkova is the undisputed organiser of the central backs, with good skills with the ball on her feet and good eyes to spot buildup opportunities. With the squad being remodelled and new things tried for the Cup of Harmony, she will likely be complimented by either the tall, strong header Dmitriev or the more defensive and calm Vidkun Nymark. On the sides, Milla Viipuri is given a (probably temporary) nod over Matts Pedersen. Her ability to play a more conservative, solid role on either side might make her a powerful utility choice; complimented by the restless and offensive Flemming Skov.

Ahead of this line, another line of four forms Savojarna’s midfield. The wings are traditionally the crown jewel of a Savojar side, featuring two-times Champions League winner with Directus and former member of the Galacticos 23 Mikhail Jashkin. He has been a rock for Savojarna with his combination of sly through balls from the side and quick runs towards the goal. On the left side, Savojarna opt for new blood in this tournament with 25 year old Finn Östberg, who previously played in Taeshan and now at Lok Jarnstad. A two-way winger with a precise cross and a good defensive workrate, he shores up a side and can be replaced by the active and goal-oriented inverted left forward Juhamatti Rajala if required. On the right side, Kaisa Gyldenström serves as backup to Jashkin, a quick and technical player that is working hard in both directions, and has honed her physical condition in the gruelling second division of Nephara, and now reaps the fruits as one of four Zenith players in this side.

Between the two, captain Victoria Maersk will take the field for Savojarna for the last time at the age of 36, and plans to retire after this season. She is pulling strings with her clever and calm passing and directing her allies around the pitch. Her role has grown more defensive with age, complimenting one of the duo of Poulsen and Lundell, two modern playmakers with capabilities to advance and score themselves (particularly in the case of Poulsen). In backup, there is youth and a more defensive option with Adrian Klaebo, a clever player who likes to use his splendid positional play to win balls and his game sense to spray them wide for wingers and strikers alike.

Up front, Sven Ehlers has grown into a star player of this side, who will try to create danger from between the lines as a hanging striker. Ehlers is rather short but quick, mobile, and a good linker as well as a good finisher. Next to him, Lars Alvesen has the best cards, a 19 year old prodigy who delivered in his first SFS A season at Partisan. Sergey Nweke is the other option, a focal striker with his physical presence and good finishing capacity, who can adapt to the game situation quickly and has an eye for openings. He is striving to find gaps between the opposing defence, and scoring from the box. The third option this time is Victor Hedenberg, a sly striker with SFS A experience. He is tall but not as physically present as Nweke, less of a goal scorer and more of a player that tends to bring in his partner, winger, or offensive midfielder by playing balls backwards or sideways when there is an option. He also has a good sense of pressing and is likely to play defensive roles as well.

Head Coach: Adnan Suliaha, 59
Assistant Head Coach: Katiri Hedge, 65
General Playing Style: Being a nation which emphasises on fast paced attacking football, Poafmersia would prefer to attack rather then defend. The players can be quite aggressive in getting back the ball, yet they do not keep high amounts of possession and they are very good at making use of mistakes by the opposition team to punish the opponents. Although this team has a weakness in defending set pieces, they are more fond of scoring through set pieces. Another way of scoring is often pressuring opponents through high defensive lines. This team, however, is likely to push forward even more attack, going even further to try to score more goals. The more goals, the better.

Fans
Poafmersian fans are crazy about football, and their loud cheers ring about in the stadiums they visit. They are very willing to disturb the peace in the area to celebrate their win after matches, so matches are best held in the afternoon or early evenings. You can spot Poafmers booking large meeting rooms in hotels, going to bars in groups. Apart from that, they do pick up after themselves, and prevent causing much trouble apart from celebrating. You can be assured, however, that they would be travelling around to support their team, so do reserve half the spots in stadiums for them because they would pack it to the brim.

Brief National Team History
The Kadongo Kamu have played in exactly 524 games, as of the end of World Cup 89 Qualifying. This is our 16th World Cup cycle overall. We have entered in 13 previous World Cup Qualification campaigns(WCQ73, WCQ74, WCQ75, WCQ76, WCQ77, WCQ79, WCQ80, WCQ82, WCQ84, WCQ85, WCQ86, WCQ87, and WCQ88), and made 9 consecutive World Cup Finals appearances(WC80-88) before failing to qualify in our most recent campaign. We have also participated in Baptism of Fire 60, and been a participant in three different Cup of Harmonies(CoH 66, CoH 67, and CoH 71). In three Cup of Harmonies, Banija has never once moved past the group stage in the competition, and in their lone Baptism of Fire, they earned a lone point.

After not competing at all during the World Cup 78 Cycle due to the RBSA's bankruptcy, they re-entered the world of international football in World Cup 79 cycle. A shocking World Cup 79 Qualification campaign saw them on the brink of qualifying, but the team simply ran out of gas and lost 4 of their final 5 matches to not make it to Ceni/Drawkland. Since then, the U21 team got 3rd place at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup, and the national team advanced to the quarterfinals of AOCAF LV, AOCAF LVI, and AOCAF LVII, establishing themselves as a strong regional side, falling to the eventual champs in the latter two tournaments. They stunningly qualified for World Cup 80, after starting poorly by losing 5 of their first 9, to going unbeaten in the second half of qualifying, where they won 7 of those games. In the World Cup 80 Qualification playoffs, a 3-0 first leg victory in Montreal, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, powered the team through to their first ever appearance in the World Cup Finals, advancing to sport's pre-eminent competition 5-3 on aggregate over Mercedini. While a pair of one goal losses saw them eliminated after two games, they earned their first ever victory at the World Cup Finals in a 2-0 win over New Gazi in their final group stage game. As they hosted World Cup 81, they went directly to the tournament, and went to their first ever knockout stages, winning Group A before falling, 1-1(2-1 AET) to Turori in the Round of 16. They cruised to qualification in World Cup 82, maintaining a top two spot in their World Cup Qualification group behind Brenecia for the entirety of the World Cup 82 Qualification campaign, getting to the tournament with relative ease before bowing out in the group stages.

The World Cup 83 cycle was their strongest yet. Starting with AOCAF LVIII on home soil, co-hosted with the Commonwealth of Baker Park, the Kadongo Kamu won 6 consecutive matches to open the tournament, taking their winning streak all the way to the final. Unfortunately, they were felled, 4-2, at home to their archrivals, the Equestrian States. Co-hosting World Cup 83 as well, the Banijans made a miraclous run at the World Cup, upending 5th ranked South Covelllo on penalties, and defeating the then two-time defending world champions Vilita in the quarterfinals, before falling, 3-2, at the national stadium to Starblaydia. They added to the trophy case, however, earning a bronze medal after defeating Cassadaigua in the 3rd place playoff game.

The World Cup 84 cycle, the first with real title expectations for the Banijans, was a disappointment in the regionals, as we fell 1-0 to Ko-oren in the AOCAF Round of 16, although we advanced to the quarterfinals of World Cup 84 before dropping to Eura in extra time. The World Cup 85 cycle seems to be a promise of hope for the Banijans. Although AOCAF LX was a rough tournament for the Banijans, it was surrounded by two excellent tournament performances for the Banijans. We won the U21 World Cup(DBC 47), and are just coming off earning our first ever senior-level trophy, by winning the 8th Eagle's Cup to be admitted as a full, permanent member of the Eagle's Club right before the beginning of World Cup Qualifying. Following that, the Banijans dominated World Cup 85 Qualifying, going wire-to-wire as the first place team in their World Cup Qualifying group, as well as earning more points in World Cup Qualifying(67) than any other team did throughout the entire campaign. Those strong performances both in the Eagle's Cup and World Cup Qualifying have caused fans to put an up and down AOCAF behind them, and heighten the standard for World Cup 85. While they escaped the group stages with four points, strong wins over Vilita and Zwangzug in the knockouts put them on course for a medal, as they eventually beat allies Baker Park in the bronze medal match, after falling 3-2 to the eventual champions Free Republics in the semifinal.

After a return to the AOCAF LXI Quarterfinals, their first quarterfinal appearance in the last 3 editions of the regional championships, they fell to Chromatika on penalties. The World Cup 86 Qualification campaign went rather swimmingly- the national team went a perfect 18-0-0 in World Cup Qualifying, the first time that had happened in well over 10 cycles. The multiverse's #1 ranked squad was brimming with confidence, the two-time bronze medalists entering World Cup 86 trying to win the biggest trophy in all of sports for the first time.

Marcus Waters has always preached the following- "you've got to win at home before you can win the World Cup." It's always meant you've got to win in Atlantian Oceania before you can expect to win the World Cup. And while we've never won the AOCAFs, our group was all Atlantian Oceania sides- Ko-oren, Chromatika, and Mriin. We finished in first place with a 1-0 win over Ko-oren, a 2-2 draw against Chromatika, and a 0-0 draw against Mriin being enough to earn 5 points. Then, we faced a gauntlet of former World champions. A 1-0 win over them put us in our fourth consecutive World Cup Quarterfinal, against 5 time World champions Valanora. A thrilling 4-3 win put us in the semifinal, again facing a GSW rival- World Cup 84 winners Farfadillis. In one of the wildest World Cup semifinals ever played, Banija came out on top 7-6, with a stoppage time winner to put them in the Final against the World Cup 85 winners Nephara. It was a true game of the century- neither team had lost a competitive match since the start of World Cup Qualifying, neither losing during Qualifying or the Finals. And in that thriller, it would be the Banijans who would win, taking a lead and holding onto it, winning by 3 goals to 2 against Nephara to lift the trophy and declare themselves World Cup Champions.

The ensuing AOCAF was strong, but not as strong as they wanted it to be. After starting slowly and losing their opening two games, they finished well done the stretch of group play, and even won a pair of knockout stage games before eventually falling to the champions, Baker Park, in the Semifinals. The Banijans redeemed themselves by earning a bronze medal against Sarzonia. The team took a B squad to Eagle's Cup IX, but a strong performance there landed them a silver medal, losing in the final to Valanora. World Cup 87 did not go the way they expected, getting eliminated in the group stages for the first time since World Cup 82. But we recovered in the World Cup 88 cycle. While a quarterfinal elimination at both Eagle's Cup X and AOCAF LXIII were not great, we were unbeaten in World Cup 88 Qualifying, and reached the World Cup 88 Semifinals, eliminating the defending champions Nephara and falling to the eventual champions Turori along the way. We used that momentum of the semfiinal run to finally earn a regional title, as on our 10th try, we finally won the AOCAFs, defeating Hapilopper in the semifinals and Valanora in the Final, winning both matches via penalty kick shootouts.
That regional title meant little in World Cup Qualifying, however, as Pemecutan and Zwangzug both pipped past Banija to automatically qualify for the World Cup, and leave Banija in the dust. Which meant, for the first time since World Cup 79, Banija will not be at the main event- we will be at the Cup of Harmony. With that, the coaching staff has been cleaned out, as Pam Scott takes over the national team role.

List of National Team managers
1. Kizza Kabila(Banija). Manager for Baptism of Fire 60 and the World Cup 73 Qualification Campaign. Overall record of 0-14-1(W-L-D).

Kizza Kabila is the only Banijan to have ever managed the national team. Hired for Banija's first foray onto the international scene in this sport, his reign was universally derided as a disaster. Managing 15 games, he drew his first game in the Baptism of Fire, and not only lost the next two, he then lost ever single match in the 12 game World Cup Qualification campaign for World Cup 73, with the side only scoring 5 goals across the entire campaign. Unceremoniously fired after becoming one of few managers to go through an entire World Cup Qualification campaign without earning a single point, he, alongside the entire board of the RBSA, resigned after the last game. He was disgraced in the sport after the campaign, and, to this point, has never returned to top-level soccer.

2.Jan Cassallerus(San Llera): Hired before the start of the World Cup 74 Qualification Campaign, managed through the World Cup 77 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 27-32-16(W-L-D).

Banija put its eyes abroad, searching for a foreign manager before the World Cup 74 Qualification campaign, and found Jan Cassallerus. He is Banija's longest ever serving manager, being at the helm for four entire World Cup cycles, and being at the helm for 75 total games, a kind of longevity unheard of in the modern game, especially managing the national team. He started winning a game at the Coupe D'Esquarium, in what was known as the group of death. He was largely celebrated for bringing the team into relevancy. The expectations were through the floor, following Kizza Kabila, but he brought the team to Cup of Harmony 66 and Cup of Harmony 67, as well as advancing in Olympic Qualifying and getting third place at the United Valhaven Regional Football Championships. He was forced into retirement after the World Cup 77 Qualification campaign, when the RBSA declared bankruptcy, and could not participate in the World Cup 78 Qualification Campaign due to their inability to compensate players and staff.

3. Randolf Cherry(Drawkland): Hired before the start of the World Cup 79 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 20-24-2(W-L-D)

Randolf Cherry, after the RBSA got its act together, was hired- controversially- as the manager of the national team. Not that his own hire was controversial, it was applauded across the sports spectrum here at home. He was given a 3 cycle contract, and everyone knew what the goal was- to make the World Cup Finals at least once over the course of the contract. They understood that it would take time to climb the rankings, and they were willing to give him the leash. However, he came in a very awkward situation. Adama Sowe, the Chairman of the RBSA, allegedly first offered the job to Sarah Owens, out of the Equestrian States. Of course, it is illegal in Banija for women to coach men's professional teams, and that caused controversy. And yet, here he was- the manager of the national team.

His own home country of Drawkland is, of course, very progressive in that area, where the sport is dominated by the ladies. Regardless, he had an excellent start to his reign as a manger, and was initially extremely popular. He won his first game, in a special Eagles Club match, against Aggrey-Fynn Land. He lost his first few qualifiers, but he went on a dear through the middle of qualifying, which included a 7 game winning streak on home soil. Big wins against then 4th ranked Chromatika at home and then 32nd ranked Eshan, put them in the conversation of World Cup Qualification, though they were simply not strong enough.

The Cup of Harmony was considered a disaster, finishing in dead last in their group. The competition maybe simply isn't for the Banijans, eh? But they were strong throughout the offseason, making a surprising quarterfinal run in AOCAF LV and bringing high hopes to the squad going into World Cup 80 Qualification. Hopes were through the roof for the national team, maybe even bordering unrealistic. They struggled, and the campaign got worse as the pressure built, as the squad lost their final four qualifiers of the first half of qualifying. With the campaign seemingly in free-fall, he was fired, as the RBSA said they wanted time to conduct "an open, thorough, search."

4. Marcus Waters(Equestrian States): Hired after the 1st half of World Cup 80 Qualifying, fired at the end of World Cup 89 Qualifying. Overall record of 257-81-50(W-L-D). All-time winning percentage of 66.24%. All-time points percentage of 70.53%.

Marcus Waters was the national team's assistant manager with Randolf Cherry above him, and the manager of the youth national teams. He first gained notoriety in Banija after successfully leading the U21 team to a 3rd place finish at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup. With his abilities clear, it made sense to move onto him as the interim manager as they searched for a permanent manager ahead of the second half of World Cup Qualifying. However, he was able to complete a stunning turnaround of this team. His first game in charge, he changed nearly the entire backline, and had a massive upset, away to Qasden, by a score of 3-2. A 3-0 victory over Razenthuria in the other mid-qualifying friendly got high hopes for him.

Marcus Waters went out with an intent to keep his team focused, despite everything going on at home. He has proven adept at navigating the political minefield that is this job, especially with his own country of origin essentially at war with Banija. He didn't lose a single game in the second half of qualifying, winning 7 games to get to the playoffs, including when the team was forced to play home games in Montreal due to ongoing violence within Banija. He was widely applauded for getting the team ready to play in Montreal, and winning 1-0 against Turori, the group's top seeded squad, and a 3-0 win in Montreal in the Qualification playoffs. While the RBSA interviewed four other candidates, his successful push through the World Cup Qualification playoffs and into Banija's first-ever World Cup Finals essentially clinched the job for him, as he put pen to paper to take the interim tag off of his title ahead of the 80th World Cup Finals.

Since then, of course, he has done a lot to garner the confidence of the higher-ups, and of the fans. Falling to the eventual champions in the quarterfinals of both AOCAF LVI and AOCAF LVII was widely seen as a positive. As well as, of course, a surprising Fourth Place finish in the Cup of Champions Six, highlighted by a surprising point earned in their matchup against Nephara, while also pushing through to the Round of 16 of World Cup 81, pleasing the home fans. A different sort of pressure faces him this campaign, however.

For the first time in his reign, you could say that Banija had a disappointing tournament, failing to advance in World Cup 82 beyond the group stages. It might be harsh to say that- on paper, advancing from a group with both Pasarga and Farfadillis is a tall order if your team is not Pasarga or Farfadillis. They responded well, however, winning six consecutive games at AOCAF LVIII, and knocking off major nations including Cosumar and Mriin at the tournament, before being felled in the final, in their own capitol of Busukuma, to Equestria. Following up with a World Cup on home soil, they continued that momentum forward from AOCAF LVIII, as the Banijans took on the role of giantslayers on home soil. They beat the 5th ranked South Covello side, and the then two-time defending world champions Vilita, before eventually falling to Starblaydia in the semifinals, though they still earned a bronze medal. Although momentum was blunted after a tough 1-0 defeat to Ko-oren that secured an early exit from AOCAF LIX, they followed that up with their second straight appearance in the World Cup Quarterfinals, where they fell to Eura in extra time.

The last two cycles he really got the team to rise above themselves. The last two World Cup Qualification cycles, Banija has finished as the best team in World Cup Qualifying by points earned. And he has the silverware to match- a bronze medal earned in World Cup 85, followed by a gold medal in World Cup 86. Having risen from basically nowhere in Equestria to household name status in Banija, he has truly made a name for himself as one of the world's premier international managers. While World Cup 87 was disappointing, he quickly ensured that was a one-off, rather than a sign of things to come. He brought Banija to their fourth World Cup semifinal in their past six tournaments at World Cup 88, and followed that up with winning the country's first ever regional title.

But he is now a victim of his own success. An Eagle's Cup champion, the AO champion, and a World Cup champion, he drastically raised the bar for the Kadongo Kamu. But Banija winning 9 of their last 10 Qualifiers could not overcome their disastrous, and therefore, we did not qualify for the World Cup Finals. The RBSA had no other choice but to let the legend and Hall of Famer walk, as the time has come around for the national team to change their head man for the first time since World Cup 80.

5. Pamela Scott(Commonwealth of Baker Park): Hired after World Cup 89 Qualifying, right before the Cup of Harmony. Present manager of the National team.

Scott is widely regarded as one of the brightest tactical minds in the sport, and her record speaks for itself. Replaced Trevor Richmond as BP National Team Manager after the side qualified for the WC in their first three attemps, then followed Ichi Tuzzio as boss of the WC 85 Champions, overhauling the roster and bringing a bit of defensive awareness to the legendary Farf attacking style. Has an eye for young talent and not afraid to give them a chance. The above is why she was hired- leverage her experience ot bring stabilization to a national team that is currently reeling.

1. The Equestrian States. All time Banijan record against opponent- 0-7-2(W-L-T).

The Equestrian States are easily Banija's biggest rival, and by a country mile. It has all the makings of a good international sporting rivalry- plenty of matches played, history of competitive matches, geopolitical rivalry, player familiarity, and, of course, geographical proximity- all those boxes are checked. They've played each other 5 times, and Banija has come out on the losing end each and every time, most recently a 4-0 clobbering at the hands of the Equestrian States during Banija's final friendly before this qualification tournament began.

Three times have they played in competitive competition, and three times Banija has fallen. The Equestrian States eliminated Banija from Cup of Harmony 71 in group play, while also defeating the Banijans in both the opening match of World Cup 80, and the final group stage match of AOCAF LVI, though the Banijans still advanced to the quarterfinals of that tournament. The familiarity of players between each other is strong. Banija's present and most successfull all-time manager, Marcus Waters, is Equestrian. A number of players in each country play in leagues in the other. Famous Equestrian NT players like Aaron Aiza, Rosie Tyler, and Josef Lawrenz, ply their trade in the Banijan Soccer League, with Aiza particularly growing to superstar status while winning league titles at Herzegovina City FC.

Banija's first ever major final in this sport, at the senior level, was against none other than Equestria at the national stadium, with the winner to be crowned champions of AOCAF LVIII Final. In front of a decidedly pro-Banijan crowd, it was the Equestrians who dashed Banijan dreams of glory on their home turf as they picked up their first ever major international silverware, with a 4-2 victory. That victory has made the Banijans just that much hungrier to defeat their bitter rivals, and though the history is lopsided in favor of Equestria, that has just fueled the fire on this side of the matchup. The two sides co-hosted World Cup 83 together, and almost had a rematch of their AOCAF LVIII Final in the World Cup Final, though Banija could not fulfill its end of the bargain as they fell to a stronger Starblaydia side in the semifinals. Equestria, of course went on to win the World Cup, and the next AOCAF to boot, establish a fully fledged dynasty. The Banijans, in pre WOrld Cup 84 Qualification friendlies, got their first ever result against the Equestrians, a 0-0 draw in Everfree.

Equestria and Banija were in the same group at AOCAF LXII, with the opening match of the tournament being a repeat of the AOCAF LVIII Final. Banija, we thought, rising high and champions. But Equestria came to rain on the parade. They won on Matchday 1, by a score of 2-1 in Busukuma, and we could only manage a return draw. Our fiercest rivals, and yet, we've still never managed to have beaten them, in a competitive or a friendly match. That search for the elusive win against Equestria continues.

2. Farfadillis. All time Banijan record against opponent- 2-5-0(W-L-T)

What makes a good international rivalry? You need a mixture of history and luck. Luck, to have played in plenty of high stakes matches against each other on the biggest stages- World Cups, AOCAFs, and the like. But you also need nearness. What makes these two know each other so well? We've played in twice as many competitive matches against Chromatika as we have against Farfadillis.

Well, let's go with the political intrigue. Of course, there's geography- Farfadillis is the closest nation to Banija that does not share a land border with Banija. Their former capitol, is on the northern tip of their island, which is just south of Busukuma, the Banijan capitol city. So of course, there's that familiarity. And when the Farfadillis national government fell apart and they fell into some sort of a controlled chaos, many refugees fled Farfadillis for the stability of Banija. Busukuma became the natural landing place. There are no official numbers, but there an estimated 100,000 or so Farf refugees across the country, but with over half of them, around 60,000, residing in Busukuma.

So there's that familiarity on an intimate level, especially in Banija, and especially in Banija's capitol. Especially in the capitol, it's always a huge deal when these two meet. And besides that? Well, of course, we dropped a few nuclear warheads on Farfadillis, where Banija's nuclear weapons got both hacked and stolen by operatives. While, surprisingly, it didn't cause as much damage as one would expect, 5 nuclear weapons are still quite a bit to get hit by. Farf citizens weren't exactly appreciative, and that is fresh in everybody's mind.

Lastly, look at the integration of our footballing systems. We have a combined league. With the combination of our top flights in the Shango-Fogoa Premier League, Banijan footballing fans and Farf footballing fans interact every single week. Sometimes peacefully, sometimes violently, always loud and passionately. For two seperate nations(plus Busoga), they have a very integrated league system. And that, of course, will mean that the rivalry is played out every week. Banijan teams v. Farf teams. Farf teams got the better of their Banijan opponents, by and large, throughout the inaugural season, but there is still plenty left to say on the subject.

This is Banija's clear #2 rival, ahead of anybody else, besides Equestria. And as the S-FPL continues, this rivalry will continue to be competitive for years to come. Not to mention, the two have played a pair of thrilling World Cup Finals matches against each other- Farfadillis being victorious in World Cup 81, and then being victorious again in World Cup 84, where they went on to win that World Cup. What'd be more fun than another Finals matchup between these two juggernauts, right?

3. Chromatika. All time Banijan record against opponent- 7-3-2(W-L-T)

This is, admittedly, not the first nation you think of when you think of Banija's rivals. But There is a long-time history between these two nations. These two have more shared history than Banija and any other opponent, at least in competitive matches. Banija and Chromatika have faced off a grand total of 9 times competitively- all in the modern era of Banijan soccer, which is WCQ79-present. It was that first campaign back, after the RBSA bankruptcy, where it was established.

Banija had one of their biggest ever all-time wins in that Qualifying campaign, our first ever win over a top 5 opponent, when we beat then #4 Chromatika 2-1 in Jinja City. It's a night that has gone down in Banijan history. Looking back, many see it as Banija's first true launch towards where we are now- from a consistent middle of the pack nation in Qualifying, who couldn't do anything in the Cup of Harmony, to demanding a seat at the table by being an elite squad.

And we've played plenty of times since, as well. AOCAF LXI- we beat them in the group stages, only to fall to them in the Quarterfinals, on penalty kicks. We each got clean sheet victories over the other team at Eagle's Cup VIII, a tournament that we ended up winning. And we played them twice in World Cup Qualifying for 86, beating them twice en route to a perfect 18-0-0 Qualifying record. We played them again at the Finals, and we battled out a 2-2 draw.

They're a tough opponent, and considering the frequency of our matches in recent years, meeting up in the Finals would not be that unexpected. We know each other well, have played with plenty of stakes on the line. And, of course, there's those cultural and political connections that make the greatest international rivalries- a Banijan delegation, led by present Banijan Ambassador to Chromatika and former Banijan Minister of Justice, Xolile Lubabalo, helped shepherd Chromatika's transition to democracy. It's friendly, but there's plenty of history to make it interesting.

Honorable Mentions
Nations mentioned here are considered key rivals, but there is not enough competitive match history to really define it as a rivalry. Nations are not listed in order.

- Siovanija & Teusland(Geographic proximity, cultural + political ties)
- Valanora(geographic proximity)
- Royal Kingdom of Quebec(general history and close political/cultural ties- Banija is a former colony of Quebec and they have been close ever since)

1. CM Mzukisi Nzo

Nzo is one of those Banijans who has essentially spent their entire careers abroad. Playing and starring in Taeshan for a number of years, he has essentially been a permanent fixture in the center of the Banijan midfield for a while. Marcus Waters tries all sorts of combinations next to him, to try and get that perfect central midfield pairing. But Nzo is one of the most talented Banijans on this team, and his spot is written in ink.

Nzo was young, of course, but now looks around and finds himself as a veteran. As the leaders of the World Cup winning generation take a step back, he is one of the last starters from that generation on this team. And now that gives the man who will give Kahara a real chase for Banija's international caps records the thing he has always wanted- the captain's armband for the first time. He had a lot of questions asked of him, but he answered them profoundly at the AOCAFs- playing well in route to captain the national team to their first ever regional title. However, Nzo was controversially benched at the halfway point of World Cup Qualifying, giving way to Idi Mboge. He showed a lot of character in not quitting the national team entirely, being effective for the team off the bench in their futile effort to climb back up the table and make the World Cup Finals.

Now, after the indignity of being benched, with a new manager, Nzo has both the armband back and his starting job back. Can the regional and World Champion prove himself worthy of both here at the Cup of Harmony?

2. ST Idai Uster

One of the national team's two star strikers who play up top. Idai Uster is unique among her teammates for this- instead of playing for a club and going professional at such a young age, she is the only Banijan(And remains so) in the post bankruptcy era(World Cup 79 forward) to play college soccer. Having played at Loyola-Istria for a single season, she was dominant as a freshman, meaning many thought that she made a foolish decision to play for them and not go play for a paycheck immediately. However, she got noticed by Marcus Waters, and got her first national team callup at AOCAF LIX.

Ever since then, she has been a fixture for the national team coming off the bench. No matter- the young female striker was quickly lapped up to go and play in the Schottic Premier League, and she had strong performances there. After playing in Schottia, she eventually hit the transfer market to go play for a massive club in the world's best league- and she was signed to wear the #9 jersey for AFC Treason in Nephara. To say that the signing paid off is an understatement.

Increasingly, of course, there is all sorts of competitiveness for spots on the national team. But as Ilman Jawara had a stranglehold on the starting striker role, Uster chose this past season to really explode onto the scene. 24 league goals in the last season of the Nepharim Premiership- good for third in the league, and more importantly, helped lead her team to a double, as they won both the Premiership and the Copa de Campeones. She played a starring role their as well, scoring a hat trick in the CdC Final to put them over the top.

Coming to the national team in top form, Marcus Waters faced a question- how could he not play her? But he didn't' dare mess with the lineup that he had. She was the first person off the bench, playing in all 7 games in World Cup 86 without recording a start. But no matter- even in limited time, she made her presence felt. She scored three goals, including the game-winning goal on Matchday 1 against Ko-oren, and scoring in the World Cup final against Nephara. But it begged the question more- for someone who was clearly hitting their prime, how could he afford to leave her on the bench?

Her performances caused Banija to full-time switch to a Back 3 for the first time ever, a switch that they have never looked back from. She's been a fixture in the starting XI since the World Cup 86 Final. In possession of the #9 jersey, she has a personal record in her sights- 29 goals behind Ilman Jawara's all-time goalscoring record for this national team. Can she reach that goal before its time for her to hang up the boots?

3. ST Kausu Dione

And now, for the other starting striker. Ilman Jawara has been the main man up top for so long, the days of Assefa Yitebarke leading the front lines feel like an eternity ago. But all good things must come to an end, and at 35 years old, Jawara simply cannot be expected to be the #1 man up front for club and country. So he is relegated to the bench, with fierce competition upcoming to eventually replace him. But Kausu Dione has leapfrogged the pecking order, going from not making the roster for World Cup 87 Qualifying or the most recent AOCAFs, to take Cyper Baldeh's roster spot and land himself a starting role.

He's a world champion at two levels- a starter on Banija's U18 World championship team, and a starter on Banija's U21 world championship team. While Kadongo Kamu teammate Wanda Kouyate is the multiverse's only three-level world champion(U18, U21, Senior) Kausu Dione is going to go for a more impressive feat- become the first person to be a three-level world champion as a starter on every level, since Kouyate was only a starter on the U21 squad. He's got the regional title, making him one of the most decorated players in Banijan history. He won't become a world champion at this tournament- but can one of Banija's most decorated players earn himself another trophy, here at the Cup of Harmony?

4. Idi Mboge

Mboge has the distinction of being the only Banijan to ever win the Cup of Harmony. How, one may ask? He probably has the most interesting career arc of any of Banija's players to play for the Kadongo Kamu. He was born to Banijan migrants in Maal, the capitol city of Mriin. So he grew up in Mriin, and played soccer in their youth system. But with a firm ceiling for human players in Mriin, he went to his country of origin when his parents realized that he was indeed good enough to go pro.

When he hit the scene in Banija's youth leagues, he was immediately a star, winning the player of the year award, and getting selected for Banija's U21 World Cup team at DBC 47. But his success there got the attention of higher-ups in Mriin. Why not get rid of that artificial ceiling? They sent him a late invitation to join the squad, to accept their call-up. The day before Banija's first game of DBC 47, he decided to leave Banija's U21 squad to play for his country of birth, Mriin. To say he faced criticism was an understatement. An unprecedented amount of vitriol for a dual-national, but when you consider the nature of him leaving(aka when the tournament was basically underway), it struck a lot of fans and players the wrong way.

From that point, he would go ahead and choose to play for Mriin's senior side. He was a key contributor to Mriin's Cup of Harmony winning side, giving him a major international trophy before they quit international sport. But with Mriin no longer sending out their national teams, that left only one option- for Idi Mboge to return. And he didn't, at least for a while. Last cycle, he was blackballed by Marcus Waters, who knew that his former teammates from Banija's U21 side still held a grudge. The entire World Cup 88 cycle, he wasn't invited. AOCAF LXIV? Please.

Then, the Olympics came around. U23- he's too old, right? But wait- three overage players allowed. So Marcus said, why not? Select Idi Mboge. The team got eliminated in the group stages. And then, Mboge went to the Eagle's Cup. Banija got a bronze medal at the Cup of champions. But Mboge showed enough to get called up to the A squad for World Cup Qualifying. How will his teammates react? Will fans accept him? The burning questions that must be asked. And there was no discord- he integrated well onto the national team.

And now, he's a starter here at the Cup of Harmony, for a second time. Can he be one of the very small number of players to win a Cup of Harmony for two different nations?

Postby Sarzonia » Wed Oct 06, 2021 9:45 am

The office was empty except for a member of the support staff arranging a small buffet for four people.

Nathan Hanifer was waiting patiently for the all clear to walk into the room to then provide it to Sarzonian national team assistant manager Eric Dent and to Brady Reynolds, the former Stars midfielder who was just named an assistant manager in his own right. The meeting would take place in the conference room down the hall from Hanifer's office at the Dave Wilson Athletic Complex and would feature Hanifer with the two assistant managers, plus a member of the sports information staff who was recording matters in the event a press release would need to be sent out to the footballing multiverse.

Hanifer looked serene on the outside, but it was just an act. He was still a bundle of nerves after his video interview with the Royal Banijan Soccer Association for the full-time managerial role with the Kadongo Kamu. He thought he'd done OK in the interview, but there were a few questions he would have loved to have had a do-over to answer more thoroughly.

Can't dwell on that now, he thought. Right now, the task ahead of him was gathering the two assistant managers together. He'd kept his cards close to the vest so neither Dent nor Reynolds knew what was on Hanifer's mind for this meeting. Hanifer hadn't held a similar meeting prior to the 80th edition of the Cup of Harmony, so both assistants knew the circumstances behind this meeting were unusual. They just didn't know what specifically the circumstances could be.

That didn't mean they didn't suspect. Reynolds was convinced it had something to do with the fact that Hanifer had just interviewed for the job managing the Kadongo Kamu. He was convinced it was to inform both Dent and him that he'd accepted the position and was going to manage fifth ranked Banija, recent world champions Banija. In fact, the last time the Stars fielded a team before sitting out World Cup 87 qualifying, Banija held the trophy aloft as champions after a bronze medal finish in World Cup 85. So, this was a team with significant pedigree. It was also a team with a burgeoning rivalry with Sarzonia. The Kadongo Kamu and the Stars have played each other a few times, and certainly as fellow members of Atlantian Oceania, there's a rivalry there, but it serves as a subset for a much larger sporting rivalry centred on lacrosse and basketball, among other sports.

"All right. It's ready," the staffer said as he greeted Hanifer. Hanifer walked in, saw the chairs assembled the way he wanted, then sat down at the desk.

"You can bring them in," Hanifer said. The staffer got both Dent and Reynolds, along with a member of the sports information staff. The three men walked in. Hanifer stood up to shake hands with all three men, then he motioned toward the buffet set up.

"If you'd like to get a bite to eat and maybe something to drink, feel free," Hanifer said. Everyone in the room grabbed some food and a drink, then sat down in their respective seats.

"I suppose you're wondering why I called you in, Eric and Brady," Hanifer began.

"You could say that," Reynolds said, drawing a smirk from Hanifer. He looked and saw a stony expression on Dent's face.

"Well, as both of you probably heard, I just interviewed with the Kadongo Kamu for the vacant managerial position previously held by Marcus Waters," Hanifer said. "I expect I'll hear something from the RBSA before too long."

"Do you think you'll take the job?" Dent asked.

"I've been doing some thinking," Hanifer said. "The chance to manage a team already in the top five in the multiverse is certainly worth going for. It's a team I think were rather unfortunate to not be making the trip to either South Newlandia or Tikariot. There's a lot of talent and a sound infrastructure already in place for Banijan football.

"That said," Hanifer continued, "the idea of building a programme into a consistent World Cup contender after an absence is also appealing to me. I feel like we've got unfinished business here."

"So does that mean you'll take the Banija job if they offer it to you?" Reynolds asked. "And if so, what are the IFF's plans for a successor?"

Hanifer thought for a moment. The Incorporated Football Federation had been in contact with the RBSA and recommended Hanifer for the job. He'd received personal assurances from IFF chairman Zack Wilson that he would remain as Stars manager if the Kadongo Kamu decided to go in a different direction. He wasn't advised if he would be given input as to the identity of his successor. As far as he knew, the IFF was deliberating among hiring Dent on an interim basis, trying to lure Brenda Allison from the women's national team, or trying to coax Kevin Connelly out of retirement. In the latter case, though, convincing Connelly to unretire to manage the Stars again would not be an easy task. He's seemed to enjoy his retirement and has given no indication that he missed the job, or the rigours of football.''

More to the point, though, a Connelly rehire would imply that the more attack-oriented football favoured by Hanifer and his predecessor would be an admission of failure, one Wilson was loath to make. It would signal that Sarzonia would aim either for the "total football on steroids" approach some observers dismissed as old fashioned or for a more defensive version championed by Connelly. If the main national team were to lure Allison from the women's team, she would be an x-factor. Not because the men wouldn't be willing to listen to a woman; after all, she'd managed her Stars team to an unlikely title in Qasden in the Wonder Cup. It was because she hadn't given an indication if she would favour the more attack-oriented offence, the balanced approach, or a more defence-minded operation. There was a reason for that, Hanifer knew. Allison adapted her approach to the players in her employ. Give her a talented attack-oriented side? She'll put a team out there that favours attack. Give her a defence-oriented club? She would employ that style. Give her strong balance? Be ready for more total football on steroids.

"If Banija offers me the job, I'll take it," Hanifer said finally. "I'd be foolish not to. As for the IFF's succession plan, I don't know. Either way, we should know something before we're ready to break camp and start preparing for the Cup of Harmony."

Hanifer looked and saw Dent and Reynolds didn't like the latter answer. Hell, he didn't like it. But he knew the answer was out of his pay grade and he didn't want to provide speculation that was straight out of his arse. That would be a disservice to both Dent and Reynolds. Hanifer heard a knock on the door.

"Come," he said. He saw an aide walk in with a press release. The RBSA went with Pamela Scott as manager, not Hanifer.

"Looks like the question is moot," Hanifer said. "Banija's going with Pamela Scott as manager. I'm staying."

Squad

Manager

(Interim) Manager - Nick Cole Age: 50
He was the first Flavovespia National Team manager, and has now returned from WCQ89 MD8 onwards, as an interim measure. No choice yet has been made for the next full time manager, and Nick Cole has done enough to stay in the role for the COH81. His domestic record includes a domestic treble at Waldster and success at Langmere Green Rovers as well. A manager who’s considered stern and serious, but fair and full of praise when they do well. His sides are often seen as quite “streaky”, on a bad run they seem unable to find a win, on a good run they’re unstoppable.

Goalkeepers

1 Aarif Muhammad Age: 26 Position: GK Club: Rockridge Phoenix [BRE] Caps: 89 Goals: 0
Aarif Muhammad broke into the first team a few cycles back, and hasn’t looked back. A move to the Brenecia A-League helped solidify his status as not only one of Flavovespia's best goalkeepers, but one of the stars of the future from Flavovespia. His international career has seen his form be mixed, but even on his average days, he seems comfortably the best goalkeeper for Flavovespia.

12 Lucky Diamond Age: 28 Position: GK Club: Loxthorpe Rovers FC Caps: 4 Goals: 0
An unconventional and eccentric goalkeeper both on and off the field, Lucky Diamond is quite the character. His punk rock style attitude to life means a fair few on and off field dramas over the years, and his playing style is very much at the aggressive end of being a sweeper keeper. However it’s easy to forget he’s a very competent shot stopper with good distribution as well.

24 Nathan Crewe Age: 22 Position: GK Club: Waldster FC Caps: 0 Goals: 0
One of the few debutants in this squad, and one of the youngest as well. Crewe comes from what has been described as a golden generation of Flavovespian goalkeepers, and he’s one that has impressed in the Super League. Despite Waldster’s recent struggles, few can be blamed on his goalkeeping skills. In terms of shot stopping, he’s nearing the top in the Super League, but distribution is a let down.

Defenders

2 David Lyons Age: 25 Position: LB Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 66 Goals: 3
One of the key parts of the success of Langmere Green Rovers FC, David Lyons is what a lot of managers want in a full-back. Defensively strong, and a good reader of the game, knowing when to progress the ball, and when to be careful of the counter attack and press. At only 25, him reaching the 100 cap club seems likely.

3 David Blythe Age: 28 Position: RWB Club: Kytheas Rivermen [TKT] Caps: 115 Goals: 0
A relatively quiet defender in terms of off the pitch personality, Blythe is one of the Flavovespians who plays abroad. A wing back normally, he’s adapted reasonably well to the full back role of international football, if not perfectly. Like many wing backs, he’s fairly pacey and likes long passes and crosses, but a few defensive attributes like marking and tackling are still a slight weakness.

4 Stuart Cookson Age: 24 Position: CB Club: Marthorpe City FC Caps: 14 Goals: 0
Cookson’s never quite hit consistency at international level yet, but at the same time deceives people into forgetting he’s only 24, with how long he’s seemingly been in the Super League. A tall centre back at 1.92m (6’4), he’s a commanding presence in the box, at both ends. Awareness, especially with play on the ground is something he does need to work on at this level.

5 Tony Gardner Age: 31 Position: CB Club: Newrook City FC [NPH] Caps: 183 Goals: 5
The most experienced defender for Flavovespia, and on his best form, still considered one of the best. Gardner however didn’t do a particularly good job in WCQ89 answering his critics who say he’s less concerned about playing for Flavovespia. He’s a centre back with a great all-around skillset, including with the ball at his feet, although is prone to bouts of frustration and losing his cool.

13 Kishan Rees Age: 25 Position: LWB Club: Binclestead Wood FC Caps: 14 Goals: 0
A versatile player down the left-flank, whilst listed as a wing back he plays club football as a left midfielder at the moment. He performed okay as a full back, although looked more at home as a midfielder in Flavovespian colours. His strengths lie in moving and playing the ball, whereas his tackling and marking aren’t quite the best yet.

14 Alexander May Age: 33 Position: CB Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 125 Goals: 2
An important part of Langmere Green Rovers’ dominant defence, and tough as nails, Alexander May is the perfect centre back to some managers. To others, he’s too aggressive, too old-school, and a bit of a liability at this level. But despite this, he’s a fully committed player, and at his age, will want to likely play his last international tournament to the best he can, and leave nothing behind.

16 Andrew Dance Age: 22 Position: RB Club: Loxthorpe Rovers FC Caps: 15 Goals: 0
A tall, strong full back, Andrew Dance certainly began to show signs of real promise at this level in the WCQ89. Whilst his mental and tactical skills at this level need refining, the raw talent is definitely there, and if he keeps his composure, could be a real hassle for opposition attackers.

17 Neil Wright Age: 31 Position: CB Club: Kings Lunsel FC Caps: 49 Goals: 0
His return to the squad raised a few eyebrows when selected, but Neil Wright was competent, if not a star in Flavovespian colours in WCQ89. Not a defender who could be described as elegant on the ball, he does a decent job of winning it back, and often when coming on as a sub, that’s what’s needed.

Midfielders

6 David Clark Age: 29 Position: CDM Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 80 Goals: 13
A typical “box-to-box midfielder”, Clark may be listed as a CDM, but he’s no stranger to moving up the field with the ball. He’s got a good shot from range on him, even if sometimes his passing can be a tad wayward. Another one of the players who’ll be eyeing up the 100 cap mark in the future.

7 Alexander Clarkson Age: 30 Position: CDM Club: Binclestead Wood FC Caps: 25 Goals: 2
Clarkson is a player who’s worked hard to get here, battling his way at yo-yo clubs before becoming a valuable asset for Binclestead Wood. His best strength is being a ball-winner, not afraid to hustle the opposition, even if it draws the odd foul. 2 goals in the WCQ89 also went down well with fans, who were pleased to see his efforts rewarded.

8 Robert Totten Age: 28 Position: CAM Club: Loxthorpe Rovers FC Caps: 40 Goals: 4
A centre attacking midfielder who knows how to link up attack and midfield, he was unfortunately one of the players out of luck with the change to a 4-4-2. His red card in the qualifiers certainly didn’t help either. He’s a solid player, especially at club level, and red card aside, reliable. However he’s not really a player of particularly much flair.

11 Steven Hall Age: 33 Position: RAM Club: Loxthorpe Rovers FC Caps: 197 Goals: 75
Almost 200 caps now, Steven Hall’s influence on the Flavovespia national team can’t be overstated. And if anyone thought finally winning a Super League title would see his commitment and skills drop off, they couldn’t be more wrong. He may no longer be supremely quick or agile, but he still has tremendous accuracy with the ball. The captain of the side, he’s also well liked in the dressing room and by most fans.

18 Jonathan Feld Age: 32 Position: LM Club: Kings Lunsel FC Caps: 147 Goals: 15
An experienced and versatile left midfielder, with the ability to play in the centre as well. Feld’s key attributes were a high work rate and intelligence combined with a good agility and possession of the ball. However his performances in the national team aren’t what they were once, and he’s close to the point of maybe drifting out of the squad.

19 Kieron Player Age: 24 Position: CDM Club: Lanar [CMT] Caps: 56 Goals: 1
He’s spent the last few years abroad, but is certainly no stranger to the national team. Kieron Player was always hyped on of the next big things in midfield, comparisons to James King in particular. For now, he still needs to work a little on consistency, and his ability to work with other midfielders. On his day though, a great example of a deep lying playmaker, with vision and the ability to pick out the pass.

20 Robert Cooper Age: 26 Position: RAM Club: Hadford Hill FC Caps: 5 Goals: 0
One of the few players who seems almost equally talented with both feet, he’s a bit of a dual-threat down the wing. His game time in the national side is limited with Steven Hall ahead of him in his position, but the fact he remains in the squad shows Nick Cole has confidence in him if need be.

21 Murad Ahmed Age: 30 Position: CM Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 77 Goals: 4
Listed as a central midfielder, Ahmed’s probably played in any midfield role there is at some point in his career. His 77 caps can quite often be off the bench, but nevertheless he’s been a useful player for Flavovespia. He’s an all-round sort of player, few major weaknesses, but not really a world-class skill in his arsenal.

Forwards

9 Michael Cole Age: 24 Position: CF Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 46 Goals: 16

The son of manager Nick Cole, Michael Cole has been considered one of the brightest young talents in Flavovespia, and the highest ever transfer fee by a Flavovespian club was paid for him. Whilst by those standards he’s not yet hit the lofty heights, he’s still very talented. If he can play off the shoulder of the defence, his acceleration and shooting ability is almost unrivalled.

10 Scott Coleman Age: 30 Position: CF Club: Aries Chariots [NPH] Caps: 174 Goals: 115
One of the stars of Flavovespian football, Scott Coleman plays in the Nepharan Zenith, further increasing his reputation. It’s a well-deserved one, his ability to find space in the box and use it is practically without equal amongst Flavovespians. In the qualifiers, he received some flak for poor form early on, but towards the end, was scoring goals left, right and centre.

22 Anthony Hannigan Age: 26 Position: CF Club: Kings Lunsel FC Caps: 12 Goals: 0
Anthony Hannigan is yet to score internationally, although the 12 caps doesn’t truly reflect how many of those were substitute appearances, some with minutes to go. He’s pacey and accurate in the box, with feet and head. He does lack when outside the box, both in terms of long range scoring and being a creative link-up player.

25 Adrian Jones Age: 25 Position: CF Club: Langmere Green Rovers FC Caps: 0 Goals: 0
From the youth ranks of Langmere Green Rovers, Adrian Jones has been a big part of their dominant streak. He’s learned well from former club teammate and Flavovespian international Ramon Martin, in how to be a “number 10” type role. For a striker, quite tough and strong, harder to muscle off the ball, and a prominent aerial threat. Whilst plenty would say he’s not got the flair of Cole or Coleman, his call-up isn’t undeserved, and he could bring something different to the national team.

Tactics

On the surface, it’s pretty simple, a 4-4-2. Nick Cole’s game plan relies on fairly basic positioning, the back 4 are expected more to hold the line than to have the full backs advance downfield much. The 2 central midfielders typically sit a little deeper than the wide midfielders, although one central midfielder will have more freedom to push forward. In terms of getting the ball to the forwards, the passing is more long ball focused and direct, trying to get in behind the space as opposed to shorter, possession based football.

Risky Roulette!

HUElavia enters the Cup of Harmony as one of the favorites to win with a very stacked tournament.

HUElavia finished the World Cup 89 Qualifiers in 3rd Place in Group 2 after finishing with 36 Points (10-6-2), just a point shy for the World Cup Playoffs behind Squidroidia, who had 37 Points (11-4-3). Thus, HUElavia missed the World Cup for the 13th time in team history, thus ending the World Cups in the 80s with a 3 for 10 in appearances. This left a disappointing taste in HUElavian supporters for the team missing out on making the multiverse's biggest sports tournament, even more so that Squidroidia ended up defeating heavy favorites Vilita via penalty shootout to make their 1st ever World Cup. Due to the elimination, HUElavia fell to 31st place in the Multiversal Rankings.

After the 0-0 draw with Le Choix on Matchday 18, the team was seen as disappointed at the result and were now waiting to see what their fate for the upcoming Summer was going to be. A few days after the elimination, the HUElavian Football Association received the formal invitation to the 81st Cup of Harmony, which was accepted by HFA President Rebecca Fonseca Nazário, and it was announced that the team was going to be participating in the tournament.

A few weeks after that, President Fonseca Nazário sat down with Leonardo Conavacio, and it was reported that she expressed her support of the manager and was allowing him to continue managing the team. For the time being, it was reported that the expectations for Conavacio and the team is to make it to the Round-of-16, at the very least. Conavacio was seen in the press conference afterwards, stating "I'm grateful for President Fonseca Nazário to be giving her faith and full support to me for the team and the rebuild going on with the national team. I'm determined to train these great players and give the millions of HUElavians in the country and around the multiverse a performance to remember."

For the tournament, Coach Conavacio named most of the main players that appeared in the World Cup Qualifiers. There were a few surprises in the roster for this tournament. Most notably, the inclusions of Casillas, Otto, Pujals, and Kedar, and the surprising omission of Ji, Wentz and Di Donato. Despite these changes, it was widely viewed positively by the press and fans, with the general consensus being that young players are needed in the team and there needs to be a change in hands (or rather, feet) in the team.

HUElavia is one of the many strong teams that will be appearing in the tournament. Some of the major teams that are officially appearing includes as follows: Banija (5), Independent Athletes from Quebec (20), Jeruselem (22), Squornshelan Remnant States (29), Geektopia (44), TJUN-ia (47), and Huayramarca (48) to name a few. HUElavia is expected to be in Pot 1 for the Group Stage draw, where the last time they were in this tournament was in Cup of Harmony 79, where HUElavia swept a Group Stage for the first time in team history, before being obliterated 4-1 by Darmen in the Round-of-32.

For now, the team will be awaiting the Group Stage draw, looking to know who their opponents will be. The hope is not to get a strong possible opponent for the knockouts, but anything can happen in Football. Here's to a favorable Group Stage draw.

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!
