I was going to make the case that prostitutes should be protected from assaults and theft of services by the police like any other business but then I realized, given how officers treat their wives, they would be the worst offenders.

As long as these places provide for health and their rights, sure. Fuck pimps, however.

You really should drive through the seedy part of a city. It will give you good perspective.

These women often work out of a motel that doubles as a haven for drug addicts and dealers. They get raped, beaten, robbed, drugged, and the drug addictions kill them. I won't pretend all police are paragons of virtue but to consider them worse then the typical pimp is just ridiculous.

Brothels do not get rid of incels.

How would it be involuntary with legal access to prostitutes? Sounds more like they cease to exist and become cels...

No. Prostitution should be illegal.

I'm curious, how was your experience? How did the brothel work? What do you think would be the average cost? Is there security staff? To be honest I'm lazy to research this myself but it'd be cool having a first person perspective. Of course, no need to answer if you don't want to.

It isn't involuntary at all, prostitutes or not.

Counterpoint: can they not exist? Restricting one of the oldest jobs in economic history merely results in them respawning illegally, now fully out of societal control.

I'd answer your questions, but seeing that 1) prostitution's technically illegal where I am, and it doesn't matter how bullshit the laws surrounding it are if I can still get arrested for being a client, and 2) bringing this up in decent company has earned me flak before, I'll pass up on actually doing so.

Yeah, something similar is happening in my country. A progressive bill clamping down sexual assault was recently trimmed by the parliament, which sounds outrageous until I remembered that the most viral sexual abuse cases are often committed by the legislators themselves.

They're going to exist whether or not we want them to, so the best thing we can do is regulate them to ensure that working conditions are good and employees aren't being abused and/or trafficked.

The issue is too complicated. When Amsterdam legalized red light districts/brothels, human trafficking allegedly went up and not down.

AIDS and other STDs spread way quicker by unregulated (illegal) prostitution than by regulated (legal) prostitution.

So you arguments against legal prostitution are actually arguments in its favour.

Not necessary when you have pictures of 2D women, but I guess.

I don't quite have an opinion about that because it's not like prostitutes are happy being prostitutes. I think we should address another issue here: why do some people decide to take that path in life. Most of the times it's just because they don't have enough money to support themselves or their family. I don't think there is anyone who wholeheartedly dreamt about being a prostitute and wants the job to be legalized. I think instead of thinking whether it should be legal or not it's better to help people find proper jobs to support themselves or/and their family.

It did go up.

But here is why: the police did not go from a situation of complete illegality to a situation of complete legality. It went from tolerance (illegal but allowed) to heavily regulated places of legal business. Under the old situation, they had extensive knowledge of everything going on, and were trusted by the prostitutes, who dared to report human traficking, and they had authority to investigate further. Under the new situation, they had no more cause to talk to the prostitutes, there was a high burden of proof threshold before they could investigate further - and worse, they were now inspecting places of business to an extent that made everybody working there distrust them.

Combine this with the European Schengen agreement (open internal borders), and you may see how especially male prostitution went completely off-radar.

Define "brothel".

Because a vague words and unclear definitions leads to discussions all over the place.

Do you think that people dream about doing data entry in an office, or working a customer support phoneline, or sweeping floors, or shovelling shit? Lots of jobs aren't dream jobs, they're just things people do because they need the money. That's probably the vast majority of jobs. So what is so improper about prostitution? Why is that a job that we need to help people leave but working in an Amazon warehouse isn't?

Good point, however other jobs you mentioned don't give you STDs or unwanted pregnancies. And you're not raped at those places either.
