Out of nowhere, the Stafford City Stadium CEO gets a phone call from Hannah Sanders.

Hannah Sanders: Hi, it’s Hannah. I know you don’t want to talk to me, and that feeling is very mutual, but I just want to tell you that I will be sending Brianna Carter to your office this weekend, and you will need to write her a check for 20 million dollars, to be put in my name. That is a conversative estimate of profits from World Cup 88 thus far.

CEO: Where the hell are you? And there is no way I am writing you out a check for 20 million. Why the hell would I do that?

Hannah Sanders: Do you feel my estimate was too low? I see the team actually beat Nephara. That certainly was unexpected, wasn’t it?

CEO: I feel your estimate is 20 million dollars too high. You abandoned this team, you are owed absolutely nothing.

Hannah Sanders: I didn’t abandon anything. I just put people in the right positions to work for me. I’ll give you a little cut eventually.

CEO: Once again, Hannah. You abandoned this team. Once you did that, there was no national team, and I had to resurrect it from the dead. I am the rightful person in charge of the national team now, and by association, the profits that are associated with it.

Hannah Sanders: I never relinquished control of the team. The Carters were the managers, and teams were sent to the World Cup. They failed to sign up the nation in a timely manner, and I talked to them about that, but by the time that I was going to respond, I saw another person I have in place went ahead and signed up the nation.

CEO: I was the one who filled out the paperwork, Hannah, not anyone you had in place.

Hannah Sanders: Oh but I knew you would. You have always been so predictable ever since I met you. You think you are a genius with everything, but really once again, you show that as long as you smell a dollar bill somewhere, you are predictable. The sign up period was not over yet, so even if you didn’t sign us up, I still could have.

CEO: I signed us up for myself, and for this team.

Hannah Sanders: You had no legal right to do that. I am in control of the national soccer team. Anything I want to do with the team, I can do. I do thank you for signing us up, putting the team together, and the bears have been a good revenue maker, I must admit.

CEO: You have not done a damn thing with this team. I put it together, as did my team here in Stafford City. You were unavailable to be reached.

Hannah Sanders: Oh, but I am always available, via the Carters. They have sent you messages on my behalf.

CEO: Incoherent messages.

Hannah Sanders: Messages nonetheless.

CEO: Where are you right now? You aren’t even on Hampton Island right now, are you?

Hannah Sanders: Am I on Hampton Island right now? No. No, I am not. But I don’t need to be. That is why Brianna will need to pick up the first check for 20 million, and we can work on things from there.

CEO: You aren’t getting a penny.

Hannah Sanders: Well, I trust you will make the right decision when she shows up. Byebye!

CEO: Wait! (Hannah hangs up)

CEO: Stupid bitch!

Postby St Trinians » Sun May 23, 2021 9:52 am

The St Trinians girls came off the pitch at Lakiska City Field absolutely exhausted. The match against the Busoga Islands had been one of their fiercest so far. Not only were the Islanders the unexpected leaders of the group, but there was bad blood between them and St Trinians. Their last match had been a literal bloodbath, with a brawl, a pitch invasion, and a full military intervention. Nine players had been injured to varying degrees, including Busogan forward Sarika Berla, who was shot from the stands. In the aftermath, Busogan President Kasekende Sr. had threatened to ban St Trinians fans from the return leg. That threat hadn’t been carried out, as a small number of St Trinians had made it to South Island, but they had been carefully searched for weapons and there was an increased security presence at the stadium.

As to the actual match, things were certainly a lot quitter this time around, at least by St Trinians standards. It took 40 minutes for the first card, when Carmichael held on to Artem Kohut. She got away with a yellow, and St Trinians escaped further trouble when Becket stopped the resulting free kick. The St Trinians keeper had returned from her military deployment, with the conflict in western Searle simmered down to the level of animosity common in the nation. In St Trinians, living under the shadow of conflict and school warfare was part of everyday life, and the people were used to it.

What they weren’t used to seeing was their national football team go 45 minutes without a red card. There had been no goals either, but that didn’t mean the game wasn’t exciting. There had been plenty of attempts from the St Trinians’ forwards, who playing with high fervour. Unfortunately for them, so were the Islander’s defence. There were a lot of tired legs in the half-time break.

Amy Pepperpot was a negotiator, not a coach. But she understood the desire to win this match more than any other, even more so than the Pasarga game. This was a rivalry. That was something that every St Trinian understood. Conflicts like the one that had engulfed Searle recently had occurred because someone wearing her school tie had walked into a rival school’s territory. Rivalry was part of the St Trinians DNA. They thrived on it. Amy’s message to the team reflected that.
“Be smart. Be sneaky. Be sensible. But above all else, win the bloody game.”

With renewed vigour, the St Trinians came out firing. Granger fired off a rocket from the edge of the box that rattled the cross bar. Speight pounced, and slotted the ball past a helpless Mustafa Taal. Wild celebrations on the pitch were marred when Gardner and Kasekende Jr got into a war of words, which resulted in pushing and shoving. Thankfully Amy was able to intervene before the entire team piled in. After the previous match against Grandistania where the team picked up 6 red cards and won simply by running circles around the remaining players, Amy had coached to be more sensible with the cards. On this occasion, her intervention worked, and the only cards handed out were to Gardner and Kasekende Jr., who were both sent off.

Both teams played the rest of the game with a great deal more animosity towards each other. Speight picked up the second goal of the game with a brilliant individual effort, chipping the ball over Taal’s head. As the St Trinians began to tire and the Busogans hustled for a comeback there were a few more fouls, and Carmichael got sent off with a second yellow. Porter also picked up a red after dropping Mohammed Gassama on his backside. However the numerical advantage came too late for the Busogans, and they emerged with the victory they wanted more than any other.

Following up with a dissapointing draw to West Zirconia at home, the St Trinians now sit in 3rd place, just 1 point behind both Busoga Islands and the Blouman Empire. St Trinians will be watching those teams closely, waiting for any slip that could potentially put St trinians into top spot and a shock entry into the World Cup.

Walking with Shadows
--- Chapter VII ---

Chapter I
Chapter II
Chapter III
Chapter IV
Chapter V
Chapter VI

Sophia is not sure what she is more exasperated about. These unknown men stealing the decree right from under their nose and then blowing up the only exit, the fact that she has no cell phone connection to call for help or James walking off into the dark. As the exit is already blocked and she can’t do anything about her cell phone either, she decides that by process of elimination James is the only one option left. Holding out her flashlight in front of her to avoid tripping over tombstones or running into crosses, she swiftly crosses the cavernous space to the back where the cone of James’ light is bouncing around along the far wall. As she reaches him, he moves his hand alongside the wall without touching it.

“What on earth are you doing?”

Without turning around, he replies, “I felt a breeze. If this place was fully sealed, there’s not airflow, not that far down, even with the storm upstairs. Which means that there is an opening somewhere else, somewhere back here.”

“Alright, lemme help.”

She moves to the other end of the wall and does the same. “So, once we figure out where the air is coming from, what then?”

“Then we try to go through the wall and see what is behind it.”

“Are you sure that’s a good idea?”

“Well, since the only other option would be sitting here without anybody knowing where we are – how much worse can it get?”

“Good point.”

They continue their search in silence until James exclaims, “I got it!”

Sophia rushes over and indeed there is a light breeze coming through a crack of a plaque at about hip height. She starts to look around at something they could use to break the plaque. “Any idea what we can use?”

“Yep, and I hope that they will forgive us our sacrilege.”

“Sacrilege? Don’t like the sound of that…”

She follows James to a wrought iron cross that is leaning at a precarious angle. He grabs it and lightly moves it and she can hear something crack in the ground.

“May I introduce you to our battering ram?”

She takes a deep breath and almost imperceptibly shakes her head while James begins to move the cross back and forth in an attempt to dislodge it, but without any success. Finally, he grabs it with both hands and lets his whole weight hang off it when it suddenly gives way, sending James hard to the ground and the cross falling right on top of him, knocking the wind out of him. She lets out a scream, because it happened so suddenly and immediately drops to one knee, putting her hand behind his head to check for blood.

“Are you ok?”

Groaning, James opens his eyes. “I—think so? Am I bleeding?”

She shakes her head. “Can you get up?”

He smiles weakly. “It’s not really comfortable, so let’s try.”

She takes his hands and helps pull him into a sitting position from which he gets back to his feet, Sophia steadying him just in case. As he straightens up, a wave of dizziness washes over him, making him stumble to the side. Sophia just barely manages to wrap her arms around him to keep him from falling over.

“I’m good, was just from getting up too fast.”

She looks at him slightly suspiciously without letting go. “Are you sure?”

“Yes, trust me, I wouldn’t want to crash on that a second time.”

“Alright, if you say so.”

She lets go and makes sure he is stable before taking a step back. James rubs the back of his head, wincing slightly.

“OK, let’s break out of this place!”

They pick up the cross and carry it over to where they had felt the breeze. They swing the cross back and then bring it forward with as much momentum as they can muster, the impact jarring, almost knocking the cross out of their hands. It takes them several tries to find the right grip and right rhythm, but then they hear a loud crack. They put the cross down and pick up their flashlights, revealing a piece of stone broken off between two plaques. The breeze has grown stronger. James takes a step back and then brings the sole of his boot forward, hitting the crack and suddenly half the wall collapses, showing that at least in this section the wall plaques were not hiding spaces for urns, but a façade for a corridor leading away from the chamber. As they look at the opening, they see hinges.

“It’s a door!”

James raises his hands. “Don’t look at me, I couldn’t know!”

“I know, silly, fancy a walk?”

He brushes past her and ventures into the dark corridor, which is significantly colder than the cavern, the breeze now much stronger and cooler. Both walls and floor are made from rough stone bricks, weathered and cracking in some places, but otherwise intact. As they follow the corridor, several other passages are branching away, but none of them feel like they have a breeze, plus going straight means that they can’t get lost either. Eventually a faint gleam of daylight begins to appear in the distance, accompanied by the rushing sound of water. Spurned on by the promise of freedom they begin running towards the sound, just to stop short as they reach the end of the corridor as all they see is a solid wall of water rushing by.

“A waterfall?” Sophia looks at James quizzically.

“Looks like it. Only waterfall I know is the Samreach Falls, which are on the other side of the stadium, I think.”

Carefully Sophia edges towards the end of the corridor, trying to peak down. Then she visibly relaxes.

“There are hand and footholds in the rock here! Up or down?”

James thinks for a moment. “Up. We went down when we followed the staircase. I’ll go first to make sure it’s safe, ok?”

She nods and steps aside as James carefully tests the holes in the wall before putting his full weight on them. Instead of waiting for the all-clear, Sophia follows right after, eager to get away from the creepy place. After about 10 metres of climbing, they reach a narrow ledge leading towards the edge of the waterfall. They very carefully advance on the wet rock, nervously aware of what consequences a misstep or slip could have. Squeezing around the corner they see the ledge widening past the edge of the waterfall, leading into trees and bushes like the area they had found the staircase to go down in. As they push through the branches and leaves, they realize that they indeed are on the other side of the stadium, but finally out in the open. Sophia wraps her arms around James in relief to have escaped their predicament only to let go with a blush, looking down at her feet, her black hair falling forward like a veil.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—”

James smiles. “We’re out, you’re relieved, don’t worry about that. Come on, let’s see if Nurisema has eaten the car yet!”

“Oh, please don’t make jokes about that…”

*****

As they get to the car, water is seeping through their rain gear, it is shaking violently, a clear sign that its inhabitant has woken up. They slip into the car and immediately Nurisema pushes his big body between he seats into the front, occupying every free inch, meaning that there is almost no space for the two humans.

“OK, ok, calm down, Nurisema, I’m ok! Wet, but ok.”

A grunt from James makes her push the dog’s head aside. “Are you ok?”

The response comes muffled by the dog’s body squishing him into the seat and with great strain. “Dog – paw – sensitive – bodypart…”

She can’t help but laugh out loud for a moment. “I’m so sorry! Nurisema – into the back! INTO – THE – BACK!”

With a loud grumble the malamute squeezes himself back again, tail wagging and alternatingly hitting Sophia and James in the face with it.

“I am so sorry, are you going to be ok?”

He takes a deep breath. “I’ll be fine, eventually. He is heavy!”

She’s trying her best to stifle a smile. “Yes, he is. But what do we do now? The decree is gone, we have no idea who took it or where they went!”

“We need to get to a library.”

She furrows her brow. “A library?”

“Yes, internet access. Two of the men had tattoos on both their hands and necks. Too much of a coincidence. Maybe we can find out what they mean and get some hints through that.”

*****

The receptionist at the Samreach Municipal Library eyes the two with suspicion as they walk in, dripping all over her carpet. “You want to access our computers like – that?”

It is obvious that James is trying to choose his words carefully. “I don’t know if you’ve been out there of late, but it’s a little humid. If you have a place where we can put our coats, I promise we will do our best not to drip onto your equipment.”

Still visibly unhappy about their state she reluctantly hands them a keycard to activate the terminal in the otherwise deserted library. They choose a desk that is facing the entrance, just to avoid any potential surprises.

“So how are you going to search for it?”

“Well, it’s not your everyday tattoos. On their necks I saw the top half of a lily and on their hands they had a long line with short dissecting diagonal lines, not sure if those could be a rank or something, because one had one dissecting line, the other one two.”

“Nice attention to detail!”

After trying different searches, a picture appears on the screen that depicts almost exactly the tattoos James had described.

“East Dhaencunor Nationalist Party?”

James shrugs. “Never heard of them either. Let’s see. ‘The East Dhaencunor Nationalist Party seeks independence of East Dhaencunor and establish the supremacy of pure Dhaencunorian blood in the lands once owned by their ancestors, the revered Ordo Draconi Dhaencunori, protected by the Gods.’”

“Oh great, nutcases.”

“Dangerous nutcases with something that could give them what they want…”

“But it’s us two against a party of – however many they are!”

“That’s why we’ll have to call in the cavalry.”

“You have a cavalry?”

“Well, I know a few people. And no, they’re not coming in on horseback.”

Sophia chuckles. “Alright, then what are you waiting for?”

There was snow in the air. Actual honest to goodness snow. With a Quebecois chill to match. It was perhaps unsurprising that none bar a hardcore dozen or so fans had made the trip from Sargossa all the way to the far north of what had been, until relatively recently, Atlantian Oceania. Now it was Anaia. Tomorrow it could be something else entirely. Politics is a funny old thing. Either way, the weather was fucking awful. Through the wisps of flakes the substitutes and backroom teams, huddled together for warmth, could see the orange ball pinging about as The Grim Reapers launched forward again. A suitably cold moniker for so inhospitable an environment. Probably a suitable moniker for an unquestionably grim 164 year old prison too. Not since the notoriously unrepentant CNCR bloc voting had seen ‘A Song for Rushmore’ head to Lower Timonium of all places (not that Oh Turnip, My Turnip was entirely without a hook, but still) has a Sargossan delegation popped up in a more seemingly unsuitable arena.

Actually that’s not entirely accurate. Between you and I a World Cup 48 qualifier against Dariusville was moved to the Black Beach Correctional Facility. But the reasons for that, along with most everything else associated with that match were kept away from the public gaze. Those records are sealed and will remain so for a very long time.
Baring one record of course. It was a 1 – 0 victory for Sargossa. Marijuana Island wasn’t being nearly so accommodating. Enrico Hanson-Conavacio was most of the reason why.
he striker was proving to be a class apart. A goal (in the gaol) and an assist in the first half had been followed by a second goal (in the gaol) after the interval. Diego Alejandro Costa and Esteban Leguizamo had managed to fight off frostbite long enough to bag consolations, but the side had wilted in the growing blizzard.

The wider implications of defeat were Sargossa dropping from second place and its prospect of World Cup qualification to fourth place and its prospect of sod all. The second seeded Quebecois were always going to be the nation the Corsairs would have to overhaul, with The Holy Empire existing on (quite literally) another plane entirely, but home and now away defeats had put Brian McAllister and his charges right up against it. Made worse by the improbable form of Silvedania, whose win over hopeless Siapa ya moved them up into third in the group.

Up next would be a trip to the Bonilla Arena in Jucaro. Jucaro, where the wind and rain blowing in across the Bay of Carrasco can often make for an unpleasant experience. But what will be positively balmy in comparison to Marijuana Island and its grotty gaol. The Islands of Ventro will be the visitors, and will be looking to arrest their own fading fortunes. Defeats to Treekidistan and The Licentian Isles has seen the Islanders drop down to sixth and they will be looking for something to spark an unlikely push for that second slot. But after going down to a shock defeat to the unfancied Islanders on matchday three The Corsairs will be itching for revenge and for three points that will hopefully put some pressure back on the Quebecois.

IVAN BOŽIĆ : Groups have been drawn for the IBA Football Champions League. after the preliminary matches, our country is represented by five clubs.
Three clubs are from the men’s soccer league and two are from the women’s soccer league.
There is great public interest in this competition as the national team has no chance of passing the group in the World Cup race.
NK Dinamo Katanija has high expectations, but we cannot ignore Mladost Melarit, Bistua Nuova or NK Čelik Raduč. Čelik Raduč has a newly opened stadium and the first game in history will be played on the IBA Champions League.
So let’s take a look at the groups our clubs have drawn.

The draw was held for the IBA Football Champions League and our clubs are in groups G, H and L.
Not an easy opponents expect our clubs.

GROUP G

This group has the largest concentration of our clubs. As many as three of our clubs will fight for the passage of Group G. They will have a difficult task. Their biggest competitors will be Athletique Nationale from Britonisea. But other clubs will not be without their chances either. Apart from Srednjaci, the clubs come from seven other countries Britonisea, Teesdexxia, Polkopia, Kyritakia, Darkmania, Vartugia, Axuva.

Athletique Nationale (BRI)
FC Orkenderm 97 (DMN)
NK DINAMO KATANIJA
NK MLADOST MELARIT
Valinkova F (PLK)
SFK Zandester (KYR)
NK BISTUA NUOVA
Darlington 1883 (TDX)
Naid Saluto (STR)
Darzlon Club Team (AXU)
Vartugian Team Taht Sucks (VAR)

GROUP H

In Group H is the champion of the women's football league NK Domratisi Blue Stars. FC Rostov from Admincohns Namerryaz has the best chance to go further, but there are other clubs that come from Estogium, Achaean Republic, Ethane, Estogium, Sklobovia, Brulisca, Placely Placington, Not Auphelia.
We believe that our girls will play better matches than in preliminary performances. Many girls played World Cup qualifiers.
Judging by the situation in the group, Srednjaci lost all chances to pass, so many players returned to the club.

FC Rostov (ACN)
South Saints (ETN)
Club Pallasovka (SKL)
The Other Placely Placington Team (PLA)
Najdovo FC (BRU)
West Quay Palisade (RWH)
Golden Wattle Bay (BPE)
Candelaria (ACH)
Baszara FC (BRU)
NK DORMATISI BLUE STARS
The Shady Cedars Retirement Home All-Stars (NAU)

GROUP L

A very unpleasant and strong club, NK Čelik Raduč, settled in group L.
In that group there are even two clubs from Nekoni and Gazovik from Waisnor. A very awkward group, with several equally strong clubs.
We believe that Čelik will come up with a solution for the favored teams.
Other clubs come from Achaean Republic, Beepee, North Yege, Hebitaka, Nathanya, Elejamie

STORY FROM HISTORY - VALASA, WOMAN, MOTHER, FIGHTER

In ancient times the city of Melarit underwent great changes of progress, changes in construction, mining, agriculture and the army. Women could attend school but only from the highest classes and with the signature of a male guardian (father, brother or husband). Valasa was the daughter of the great military leader, lord and general Edmund Rubarić Velmoški. In addition to Valasa, he had two older sons, Edmund II and Hrvoje. Both sons attended military high schools. Edmund II grammar school in Ostovica and Hrvoje naval grammar school in Melarit. Valasa begged her father to enroll her in a military school as well. The father did not have this right because women were not allowed to attend military sciences. Despite this, her brothers and father taught her military tactics, martial arts, and everything they learned. At the age of seven, Valasa went to general school on the Jesenice hill. The school is of general education and was attended by children of high classes. Out of 200 children, Valasa was one of ten girls who attended school. This made her very angry because she was better than almost all her male counterparts. At just 12, she won archery in all school competitions. She also won first place in astronomy and tried her luck in drama. However, happiness in education is coming to an end soon. At 16, her parents searched for her fiancé and found him in the son of a large fabric merchant. Valasa was angry and disappointed however she could not change her destiny. The marriage has been arranged and the wedding will be when he turns 18 years old. daughters and sons of the upper classes had the right to marry at the age of 18, while the lower classes married at the age of 15 or 16.
In the conflict of the two cities, Taru and Melarit, all the male members of the family had to go to war. The father set off with the first legion to the south and the brother Edmund II with the third legion went to the southeast. Hrvoje, the youngest brother sailed with the armada. Valasa was left alone with her mother. Before going to war, her father, Edmund certified the pax Valasea document in court. The document guarantees that Valasa disposes of his property in the event of the death of him and the male heirs until she marries. Then her husband takes over the estate. Valasa is the regent. Within all these wars, the empire became increasingly unstable and some senators fell into debt due to wrong decisions. They start owing each other money. Valasa had money, she had it at her disposal but she could not lend to a third party without a male signatory. Wallace saw the opportunity. She turned 18 and persuaded her future husband to get married. He agreed, he was inconspicuous, stupid and Wallace knew how to use him. Soon the reckless senators thought they could outwit her. They started borrowing amounts of money and borrowing. Valasa used her puppet husband for approvals but he could not sign orders and loan only Valasa as regent, her father is still alive. The husband's role was to give approval to the wife. News of the death of brother Hrvoje soon arrives. Valasa was very shaken by this. And not long after, hers father loses all trace after one great battle that Melarit lost. The news that the first legion had been decimated threw Valasa into despair. She knew she had to end the war somehow, and she could only do that in the Senate. Women in the Senate are barred from entering. Valasa soon found a solution. She wrote letters to every senator who owed her money. She told her husband to sign each letter. In the letter, she asked for a meeting with each of them individually. She organized a throne where Dadun, her husband, greeted the senators and she whispered behind the throne what she would ask of them. She blackmailed all senators into having to support Dadun’s entry into the Senate. At first, the senators protested. What would a 22-year-old do in the Senate ?! What kind of advice could he give ?! But Wallace insisted on either immediately giving up their possessions in favor of principal and interest, surrendering their slaves, and giving up 40% of their free trade rights. The senators agreed to nominate and support Dadun for senator. Wallace is now slowly forging a second plan. Given that the debt to the senators has not been written off and that there is no written trace of the write-off of Wallace anywhere, a suitable moment is waiting for the second attack. Dadun entered the Senate in September with the majority support of a Rotary senator. Rotary is the party to which her father also belonged. Hardliners who sought to expand the borders. Already in October, Valasa demanded that her husband Dadun give up his seat in the senate in court in favor of Valasa. For the first time, the court refused to accept the motion because Valasa is a woman. Valasa was furious, she bought twenty-eight soldiers, paid them with gold coins, asked them to be her army. Soon Valasa controlled part of the port from which the ships of the two most powerful judges sailed. Judges under pressure had to comply with the request and send the law for amendment to the senate. Valasa reunited the senators and told them that their debts had not been erased because there was no written trace or certification that any agreement had been made between them and her husband.
Fraud!! they shouted.
A poisonous snake !! Others shouted.
But the law had to be passed. Valasa then agreed with them to sign the document pax senatoroum. The document guaranteed the write-off of 15% of the debt principal and all interest. However, 75% of the debt remained. Some senators repaid the debt with an additional 25% of assets and 10% of slaves. Wallace entered the Senate as the first woman ever to step into the Senate and later the first woman to pass a law on discrimination. 16 years later, Wallace also signed a great peace between the two cities of Tara and Melarit after 200 years of fighting.

MATCH REPORT: SAVIGLIANE 2 - 0 JUVENCUS, WCQ88 MD11
AMELIE BOUCHER, sports

ACQUI BOLLENTE -- In a match with major World Cup qualification ramifications, Tlanx-Nulzk Hal's Swans outlasted gli attaccanti of Juvencus in a nervy 2-0 victory. While Juvencus showed that they were not to be underestimated after a controlling first half, second-half goals from Squarciafichi and Roux ultimately proved the difference. The win keeps Savigliane in second ahead of a key clash against fellow Anaians Legalese, who are just one point behind; maintaining this position would see them make at least a qualification playoff in their bid to qualify for a second straight World Cup.

While the final scoreline favored the Swans, it was the visitors who had the brighter start. While Tlanx-Nulzk, expecting trouble on the right flank, opted for the more defensive Margherita Romano over the attacking Giovanna Vitale, Juve left-winger Michelangelo Santini proved too fast for the Sporting Jaglan fullback to handle. Santini's blazing speed and deft touch gave Romano nightmares in the early stages of the game, and while Tlanx-Nulzk shaded Pietro Giraudo over to help, Santini's playmaking abilities - combined with the runs into space from the likes of Campana and Exteberrie - meant that overcommitting would leave massive gaps behind the defense. As such, Romano was largely on her own against the much quicker Baraldhur winger, who sent three gilt-edged crosses into the box in the opening phases that the forwards simply couldn't get past D'Ambrosio in goal.

Savigliane had chances of their own in the first half, although Juvencus's disciplined high defensive line limited their ability to progress up the pitch. Thea Squarciafichi was disappointed to see her first-half goal ruled out for offside, although as classy as her chipped finish was, it was entirely against the run of play up until that point. Late in stoppage time, Isabella Coste also managed to slide a beautiful cross to the far post, but Calliope Montevecchi and Adrian Toscani were both a step too slow, the latter's clumsy shot rolling out for a goal-kick. However, Dudu Madeiros' front three largely pinned back the Swans' defense in the first half, with all three registering early shots on target for D'Ambrosio to handle, largely keeping Savigliane at bay.

The second half saw Romano replaced by the marauding Vitale at right-back, as well as an interesting tactical shift from Tlanx-Nulzk, who swapped Toscani and Montevecchi's positions, leaving the former as an inside-forward of sorts and the latter as more of a #10 alongside Amara Vatrican. The move proved to be inspired, as Toscani was able to create a number of half-chances for Coste and Squarciafichi, and better link up with Vitale than the more methodical Montevecchi. However, neither had any role in the first goal, which came early in the second half and entirely from the left. After Kouyaté's errant pass was reeled in by Pietro Giraudo, the Swans burst forward up the left flank, with Giraudo feeding Bertrand Marchetti. Marchetti cut through Juvencus' defense before finding the underlapping run of Isabella Coste, whose cross was neatly tucked home by Squarciafichi.

Juvencus continued to threaten, especially on defensive transitions, but were largely stifled by the dominant performances of center-backs Blanco and Garcia, as well as substitute Gianmarco Dutto, whose deeper position in the midfield allowed the Swans to better match up with Juvencus' front three. The visitors nearly equalized when Campana was brought down by Garcia on the edge of the area, but Martell's free-kick was palmed off the post by a diving D'Ambrosio. As Juvencus pushed forwards in search of an equalizer, they left even more space for the likes of Squarciafichi, Toscani, and the substitute Anne-Marie Roux to exploit. It was ultimately the latter who killed the game off in the eighty-sixth minute, making a sublime solo run into the box before finishing from close range.

Savigliane will next take on Legalese at Stade National. A loss would see the Legalites leapfrog Savigliane for second place in the group and take the H2H tiebreaker, and the likes of Tim Ermintano, who netted a brace in the away fixture, will be trying their best to manifest that result. The first WCC-sanctioned match between Anaian nations since the region's departure from Atlantian Oceania promises to be a thrilling encounter.

Royal Marienburg University, Marienburg, Pluvia and the Saxean Isles

Prof. Charles Cunningham of the history department at the Royal Marienburg University held William II's diary in his hands as the graduate students filed out of the classroom. He'd just had a brilliant class with them, filled with discussion, debate, and excellent questions from the students. He'd used the diary surreptitiously to shape the discussion, without revealing his sources. It was enough to make him wonder if he should take things more slowly, really deeply study it and focus on his teaching before moving to publish anything about it. The thought briefly filled him with a sort of peace before another flashed into his head. No!, this one snarled. You've waited long enough! Think about the glory and the prestige, the conferences, the money that will come from this. You have to publish as soon as you can! Prof. Cunningham shook his head. Maybe there was a third way; maybe he could bring in a trusted graduate student or two to help him with both research and teaching. Maybe wosshername, that blonde one; yes, that would be rather advantageous. He turned back to the diary.

The last diary entry saw William II on the cusp of making his big speech before the National Assembly. But before he was set to make his speech, both the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition requested meetings with him. The two meetings went in quite different directions, with Alexander Scholz, the National Party Prime Minister, urging caution and restraint and Peter Baumann, the Liberal Party Opposition Leader, pledging himself wholeheartedly to the idea of political reform. Although both men were sincere, this was a trap. The National Party controlled the National Assembly, and William II could not openly identify himself with the Liberal Party, as this would undermine his claim to be ruling for his entire kingdom. William II did not doubt that the Lord Chamberlain had probably tipped Scholz off to his plan and knew how he would respond. He now had to make the decision as to how to present himself and how to win over members of both parties, to keep the nation together even as he pressed for change.

March 9, 1885

My speech is finished. I was shaking when I approached the rostrum, and shaking when I left it, but while I was speaking, I knew that my purpose was clear and my virtue unassailable. I can only hope that my words moved the National Assembly to act. I enclose an important excerpt below for my own purposes.

My lords, I do not seek to question your privilege nor overthrow the established order of things; my father, God rest and bless his soul, instilled in me a respect for the traditional ways of our society. But I have been charged with the safekeeping and with the welfare of my realm, and I do not find all to be well. When I look out over this noble assembly, I see well-fed faces and the comfort of lives lived without the fear of want. But when I move about among the common folk, whether in the north among the miners and factory workers, among the artisans of our fair capital, or the people of our southern isles, I see faces pinched with want. I see faces that grimace with anger, that have seen far too many nights gone hungry, forsaking bread so that their children may eat. I see faces that bear the lines of many long hours spent in toil, or those that wince as they walk or work due to loss of limb. But I do not see a hunger for revolution or a hopelessness borne of these cares and worries. I see a burning desire to participate in their own government, to cast a ballot and to cultivate civic virtue by doing so.

Therefore, I propose that this august assembly consider the following items: the repeal of the poll tax for all adult men, so that they may freely vote for a government they can respect and honor. I ask also for women of education, property, or widowhood to be given the ballot; in the case of the first two, their attachment to our society is evident, and in the latter case, they have no man to speak for them in a civic forum. To guarantee that our citizens have not only the opportunity to choose, but a fair choice, I ask that such special constituencies that still exist, such as universities and medieval manors, be added to ordinary constituencies and have their superfluous representatives be abolished. These constituencies do not reflect the free choices of individuals, but rather the choices of the few who there maintain influence. I further ask that a proper census be taken and new constituencies be drawn up, with each constituency having in it as close to the same number of inhabitants as may be possible. My lords, our nation is changing. More and more flock to the cities each day, but our political map still resembles that of many years ago. This reform will ensure that a proper balance between the fields and the streets, the north and south, the east and west, is maintained in our legislature. And finally, I ask that the people be considered in momentous decisions. When this body wishes to take a decision that will have far-reaching consequences, I ask that it be put to a vote by the citizens, not just the legislators. When a sufficient proportion of the people petition this body for a remedy to a particular ill, they should have the chance to vote in a plebiscite on this ill. I believe that these reforms will empower the people, and in doing so, strengthen our nation.

For those who say these changes will lead to socialist and social-democratic representation in our legislature, I admit that this is a possibility. But men must be free to govern themselves with an ordered framework of society, and if socialism, without coercion and without the possibility of revolution, holds some appeal to them, then so be it. I am not a socialist nor do I ever expect myself to become one. But we must respect the choices of our people, and address their concerns. If men feel themselves to be heard by those who govern, then they will be less susceptible to the blandishments of socialism.

Westlands

Overview

The largest of the regions by geography, if not by population, the Westlands have something of an unfortunate reputation as a forgotten rural part of Flavovespia. The relatively low population density and physical geography of this region hasn’t always helped its growth, but nevertheless but for the most part there’s more going for it than it’s reputation. It has one mid-sized city, Carston Green. The old city-region of Carston has split up, so as well as the municipality of Carston Green, there’s the municipalities of Caffchin, Combury, Kimpford and Needleden now. North Carston and South Carston comprise some of the rural areas formerly of Carston. In the south of the Westlands lie Havermilly and Guildwell. Known as “Haverwell” when referred to collectively, the towns have a sporting rivalry but are generally amicable with each other. Presmoor to the south is a generally quiet, unremarkable town. In the North, the largest municipality of all Flavovespia by area is Hopford. Nestled in the valley, the town is often considered one of the most insular in the nation. Melcave and Floombury are two rival seaside towns, formerly in the Hopford city-region. Finally Langpool Capton, bordering St Astons, is an unusual town. It was founded as a seaport to connect Waldster and St Astons economically via sea. Thus despite being in the west, the town still has quite an east Flavovespian feel to it.

Geography

The Occidenton mountain range is the dominant feature of the Westlands landscape. The border of the Westlands pasts through Mount Septenton, the highest point of Flavovespia. The elevation and thick woodland that covers much of the Occidenton in the west creates some spectacular rural hiking spots, although is partially why development in the region was so expensive and hard to come by. 2 notable rivers flow through the Westlands. The River Carston, which starts in North Carston and flows to the coast via Carston Green and Needleden. The River Hop lies solely in Hopford, and the Hop Valley is the location of the town of Hopford. The Westlands is coastal on 3 sides, although it doesn’t have the beaches like other parts of the nation. The cove in the north of the Westlands, known as the Langpool, was where Langpool Capton founded the seaport, as a natural place to set one up. Similar natural coves, although not as large, exist in Guildwell and Floombury.

Transport

Both road and rail transport connections have historically been at a premium in the Westlands. Whilst Carston Green was the terminus of the M1 road and the South Coast rail, connections beyond that were poor. At least for road transport, that all changed in the last decade, when a combination of existing dual carriageways and a new tunnel in Hopford allowed the opening of the M9, from Carston Green to terminating just outside the Westlands in St Astons City. The M9 also created a theoretical lap of Flavovespia via the motorway network. Public transport however is still relatively poor. The rail lines outside of the South Coast line are slow, with Hopford one of the most inaccessible towns of its size in the nation. The geography of the Westlands, with the Occidenton mountain range makes this task particularly poor. Plans for a road and/or rail tunnel from Carston Green to Hopford are often proposed, but haven’t yet got off the planning paper.

Economy

The Westlands has quite a mixed economy in terms of output, but other the years varying parts have struggled with job losses and poor economic conditions. Carston Green used to have not much going for it, but has recently become a cheaper hub for businesses based in the west, and as an alternative to St Astons. Havermilly was once famous for its steel mills, but they were controversially shut down to local anger, that still continues to an extent this day. Langpool Capton always had some benefits of being a seaport town, and for as long as sea freight is necessary will do well. Hopford has struggled historically, both because of its isolated location, and its political disputes with just about everyone else at some point. Whilst the Westlands may not be an economic powerhouse, recent improved connections and devolution may give this region a lift.

Politics

The Westlands is part of the country where anti-republicanism runs high, the populist right Freedom and Democracy Party have done well here. Hopford in particular, was the last part of Flavovespia to finally agree to join the Republic back in the day, even after Hadford Hill. The liberal parties have also historically done well here, their more regional focused politics popular for those far from Waldster. Havermilly meanwhile was one of the few parts of the country that has consistently back the Alliance Party. The anger over the shutting of the steel mills at the time lead to riots, and despite efforts by the then right-wing government to disperse the disorder, it created a big swelling of support for the Alliance Party. The Westlands is probably the weakest area for the Socialists, and the Democratic Conservatives have sometimes struggled as well here.
Formerly the Republic of Greater Waldster, internationally known as Greater Watford. IC It's a long story (OOC I didn't like using real place names)

Boot It!: Only In TJUN-ia, I Guess

Postby TJUN-ia » Sun May 23, 2021 11:40 am

After a great first half was put behind them, the mood around TJUN-ian football at the moment was one of general optimism. The Co-Managers of David Seems and Li Xiu Ying have certainly instilled a great mood around the camp, only 2 points back on Banija entering an away double-header, and many were starting to wonder if things can only get better from here.

But the football gods as a whole are beings you aren't supposed to mess with and TJUN-ia learned that the hard way on MD10. The rematch with unranked Malandrin, a team we beat 6-4 at the National Stadium, was a game many expected to be tighter than before as the opposition now had more experience in this sport and how the game worked. This game wouldn't turn out to be another goalfest, as expected, as Roberto Torres' side would battle us as equals in front of the home faithful in a game of defensive power and determination all round. The main offensive weapons in the first half would be Joe Green and Cayetano García (a.k.a El Sovietico), both of them creating chances that almost broke this deadlock but to no avail. The real drama would come in right from the off in the 2nd as El Sovietico would head in a cross by David Fontbellá in the 46th to give the host an unexpected lead. The rest of the game would turn into a siege as Malandrin tried to defend this lead with everything they had, TJUN-ia relentless in their efforts to get something from this whole ordeal. Dopingo Fernández was a brick wall after all and that was enough to set this result into stone, Malandrin claiming their 2nd and biggest ever win with a brilliant performance overall. TJUN-ia were the more creative team, but the hosts were just better on the night.

That set back was certainly an unexpected one, but TJUN-ia were still quietly confident heading into the final road game of the stretch at the infamous Flynn Arena against the 4th-placed Euran Oceania Territories. THis game would turn into the 9-goal thriller everyone was hoping for after the Malandrin game and a definite showing of TJUN-ia's resilience in the face of great danger. The Expats would take a 3-0 lead after the first half an hour as Pierre-Louis Le Tonnelier waged havok on us all with a subline hattrick in front of his home fans. Kepo Ulawaya would get one back just before the break, but things were certainly looking bleak once again. We needed a change to help us try and overcome this pain and so, the Galarian known as Prince Carter was inserted into the game for Peliniho - a brilliant playmaker who would certainly be the change we needed in this game. He got to work almost immediately and would certainly change the pace of the game, scoring himself in the 56th and assisting for Ulawaya in the 61st to level up the game at 3-3. He would then take matters into his own hands in a spectacular way, striking from range past Charlie Ross in the 69th to complete the comeback for the Jags. Nolberto Dravon would level the game up again in the 78th but the Jags would find the final blow soon enough, a corner by David Johnson headed in by NIck James of all people in the 87th to give TJUN-ia the vital 3 points after a game which included everything under the sun.

TJUN-ia now are 5 points back on Banija and 3 ahead of the main chaser in Oberour Ar Moro, the Jaguars finding themselves in No Man's Land once again in a WCQ Group. Our next two games are against bottom side Shreekaristan in Tiankong before we look for revenge against Srednjaci in Katanija as the long rod toward the World Cup continues for our team. GO JAGS!

Postby Oberour Ar Moro » Sun May 23, 2021 11:42 am

The man standing and staring out the porthole window spoke first. “When I was told that a strange man had been surveilling me, I knew that I had to meet them personally.”

“It’s good to finally meet you, Monsieur le Huërou,” Jean Calvaire responded as coolly as he could. “Though I find this whole meeting rather uncomfortable. What with your...guards.” Calvaire was sitting on an ornate, uncomfortable chair flanked by large men in dark suits holding guns. Holding guns in Jean’s direction.

“That is Doctor le Huërou.” The man turned to face Calvaire, clearly trying to keep his anger at the slight in check. He brushed the bangs of his brown hair away from his eyes, then ran his hand through his long hair, clearly considering the man before him. “Unfortunately, I am a man with many enemies. These are perfectly reasonable precautions.”

Jean was uninterested in this show of nonchalance. “Is all this danger is why you’re living on a yacht in Côte d'Saphir? How much does a berth in Repulse Harbor cost you? Or is the cost paid by Oath of Philosophy?”

Doctor le Huërou walked towards Jean, his bare feet making no sound on the thick carpet. “The yacht Restauration is owned by Oath of Philosophy, and the organization kindly lets me stay here as needed.”

“Oath of Philosophy is your own group. You founded it, and you clearly enjoy the fruits of your labor.”

Clearly aggrieved by Jean’s comments, the thug on Calvaire’s left swiftly jabbed out his elbow, hitting Jean on the head.

“Manners, young man,” said le Huërou, ignoring the assault, slowly turning and walking away. “You are my guest, as well as the guest of Oath of Philosophy. Please show some respect.” He stopped and turned again. “This reminds me that we have not had the pleasure to be introduced.”

Jean tried to shake out the ringing in his head. “My name is Jean Calvaire.”

“Jean Calvaire. Is that truly your name?” le Huërou replied with aggression masked by nonchalance.

“Is Gilles le Huërou truly yours?”

“Tut tut.” Gilles le Huërou did not like being doubted, clearly. He looked up with a contemplative gaze toward the ceiling of the cabin. “Jean Calvaire...Do you think heaven sent you Jean?”

“I know who sent me.” Jean did not like the games le Huërou was playing.

“I believe that I do as well.” Unfortunately le Huërou enjoyed the games very much. “You’re an agent of Oberour Ar Moro’s Ministry of Intelligence. Now what would they want with me?”

Jean Calvaire wanted to spill out the multitude of reasons why Oberour Ar Moro would want the so-called Doctor Gilles le Huërou. How Gilles le Huërou was born Maheu Violet in Martres. How he’d gone from a confidence trickster with a violent streak to some kind of fraud guru. How Oath of Philosophy was a cult parading as a metaphysical self-help group. How internal critics of Gilles le Huërou kept disappearing or committing suicide. But this would only get him further away from what he was really seeking. But something about where he was made his head feel fuzzy. Was it that blow from the thug? Or something else? He shook his head vigorously, trying to clear out the cobwebs.

“Specifically, I’m searching for a monsieur Phelipes la Galeranne. I understand that you have some kind of connection with him.”

“Oh? Do I?” le Huërou was a picture of innocence, putting his hands behind his back. “I’m not sure I am familiar with that name.”

“I have a picture of him. I believe your men stole it from me when they rifled through my pockets.”

Jean looked at le Huërou’s desk in the middle of the room, where a small pile of files, along with his pistol, sat. le Huërou sauntered over and looked at the photograph, examining it theatrically. “I am afraid I cannot be of help, I do not recognize this gentleman,” he declared

“Then perhaps that second picture might refresh your memory.” There was a still from a televised report on le Huërou, and he was speaking with a man who looked very much like la Galeranne.

“I meet with so many people, Monsieur Calvaire, this could be anyone, and I could not be expected to remember every single face.”

Calvaire pushed on. “And I have those financial records. Phelipes la Galeranne is connected to a company called VVE. There are records of VVE making payments to a company called Groupe Gobelin. And according to research, Groupe Gobelin has very close ties to Oath of Philosophy. To the point that one could call Groupe Gobelin a shell company for Oath of Philosophy. So that means that la Galeranne paid you, and paid you a significant amount of money. Perhaps you remember his face now?”

Gilles le Huërou crossed his arms over his black turtleneck and considered his options. He then appeared to have a sudden brainwave. “Hmmm...ah yes! Monsieur la Galeranne: He is a truth seeker. He is not afflicted with the mind rot of the modern era. He was willing to rip off his illusory mask.”

Calvaire felt masked. How could a boat feel so suffocating? “And how did he do this?”

“First, he sought me out. He was a lost man in crisis. And I think he saw, as I did, that there was more to the world. So we worked together, to break him from his metaphysical sleep. And then,” le Huërou suddenly slammed his fist onto the desk, making Calvaire flinch. “Phelipes was startled awake, and immediately got to work.”

Calvaire found himself fighting off the fog. “So he woke up...to do what work? More oil exploration? What good would that do him?”

Gilles le Huërou slowly advanced on Calvaire. “Phelipes had spent his life pulling power from under the soil. But what if one could seize power from somewhere beyond?”

“Beyond?” Calvaire could feel a strange buzzing sensation under his skin. He suddenly realized that le Huërou was almost on him, leaning towards him, staring deeply into his eyes.

“The Quiet Lands, Monsieur Calvaire.”

“The Quiet Lands? That…” this conversation was wearing down Calvaire’s patience. He wanted to be as far from here as possible. “That...rustic superstition?” He emphasized with a wild flinging of his arms, almost hitting le Huërou, who smoothly cleared out of the way. The guards grabbed Calvaire’s arms, forcing them down onto the chair. Calvaire suddenly wondered where this anger was coming from. He needed to calm down.

“There are more universes, more planes than this, Jean. More power than we understand yet. Yet.”

Jean could hear a low buzzing in his ear.

“The Quiet Lands are real. A certainty. But nothing to fear, if they can be harnessed.”

Jean’s left hand started to tremble.

“And yes, they can be harnessed. A plane, a universe, of zero point energy. Ready to be taken. Utilized. By those with ambition.”

Jean’s eyes started to unfocus, staring at the far end of the cabin, then blurring.

“This is what I promised Phelipes la Galeranne. A world beyond this one. A world anew. A world to claim. And this is what I can promise you.

A trickle of blood started to run down from Jean’s nose onto his lip. He felt frozen and cold.

“Beg me for life, Jean,” le Huërou’s voice was a whisper into Calvaire’s ear. He was so close. “I can make the pain...stop.”

It felt like a tectonic fault in Jean’s head suddenly slipped, and he was out of the chair. He kicked le Huërou as hard as he could, and then turned, grabbing the head of one of the thugs in his arms, then using the first thug to push the chair into the second. As a thug fell over with a heavy chair falling onto him, Jean punched the first once, twice, three times on the face. He then heaved him aside, watching as the gun clattered into a corner. Jean then turned to push down on the chair. The thug groaned under the pressure, before Jean pulled the chair off, and kicked the thug’s head, knocking him cold.

Jean pulled the gun off the thug and turned, looking for le Huërou. He was crawling behind the desk, and Jean could hear a drawer being opened. Jean dashed across the room and slid across the desk, knocking papers everywhere. As he slid across he reached down and grabbed le Huërou, knocking him to the floor. The gun le Huërou had been looking for dropped from his grasp.

Tightly holding le Huërou around the neck, Jean guided him up the deck, fighting off further guards. One guard attempted to grab le Huërou away, which Jean blunted by shoving le Huërou into him, knocking them both down a flight of stairs into the bowels of the ship. Not a smart thing to do if you wanted to get a man off a boat, but Calvaire was enjoying knocking le Huërou around.

“I can forgive this Jean!” le Huërou pleaded through gritted teeth as Calvaire pulled him onto the deck of the yacht. “You are so close to greatness. I can lead you there…”

Jean roughly threw le Huërou against the hull. “Shut the hell up!” Calvaire punched le Huërou, and then heaved him off the boat and into the harbor.

The police had been called, and a group of Côte d'Saphir tactical intervention officers were swarming the Restauration, arresting armed guards. On dry land, Côte d'Saphir police were arguing with representatives from the Oberour Ar Moro Embassy, covering up their confusion with ever greater forms of bluster. However, they had orders from Regium that Gilles le Huërou was to be arrested and transferred to Oberour Ar Moro posthaste, and Jean Calvaire was not be arrested and let go.

As le Huërou was forcibly pushed into a police car, he shouted in the direction of Jean Calvaire, currently being looked over on an ambulance. “You will see Calvaire! The time will come and in the quiet you will crawl to me!” The door slammed on him, while locals and Oberours continued to argue.

The examination concluded and Jean stepped down from the ambulance. He wanted to get back to his hotel, and take a shower. A long one. A cold one. He took several deep breaths, tried to center himself, and slowly started to walk away when he felt his phone buzz in his pocket. He pulled the phone out and answered it.

“Jean? It’s Guenegan, and I have the most interesting news. I’ve had some research done and you’ll never believe it: It appears that Phelipes la Galeranne is in Atlantian Oceania.”

Anaia their Legacy (and Qualification)
First Anaian Derby for Legalese kicks off a key pair of matches on the final stretch

Coming into qualifying for World Cup 88, the Federation of Association Football came out strong on their new program, calling it Project Legacy. On paper, it seemed more structural -- efforts to build and renovate stadia across the country, with the hopes to host a World Cup in the coming cycles -- rather than major changes to the 96th-ranked national team, which had been hovering around that level for a few cycles.

On the field, however, Legalese has been a new team. Myles Woodworth has found his stride as manager, finally getting a team in sync with his high-pressure, high scoring attack style. The final piece slid into place recently, with Ramon Clinch filling in the eleven for keeper Karter Lindamood. The end result was holding their last two opponents to one goal apiece, resulting in back-to-back 2-1 victories over Igratia and Eraman, respectively. These results reveal a side that continues to punch above their weight, sitting a point back of Savigliane for second, and level with third-placed Taeshan, who hold the advantage on tiebreakers.

This is where it gets real, however. With seven matches remaining, four higher-ranked sides are on the menu.

“We can’t afford to drop points to anyone, but let’s face it, it was always going to be the big four that mattered -- BP, Taeshan, Savigliane, and Juvencus” Woodworth said at a press conference earlier. “Those matches will decide our fate.”

True words, if somewhat obvious. Fortunately for him, three of the four are at home, including the next two, starting with Savigliane, followed by Juvencus. Both opponents will be coming to Spetz-Tessah, with Shoreline Park playing host to the qualifiers. One of Legalese’s newer cities, Spetz-Tessah and Shoreline Park are fitting sites for the off-field elements of Project Legacy -- a successful string of matches could spell well for the stadium’s future, should the rumors of Legalese bidding to host Anaia’s first regional competition, the CAFA Cup.

Speaking of Anaia, the Savigliane match has a special ring to it -- it’s Legalese’s first all-Anaian matchup -- on top of being crucial for both sides and their hopes of qualification.

Woodworth's concern remains firmly on the qualifying implications.

"Geopolitics is a fun pursuit for those interested -- heck, I did my service time as well. But for us, it doesn't matter where we are, who we play. We just need to press for goals and fight for the win. That's what we're judged on."[ Ed. note: Woodworth spent his service time on parks and and recreation programs in Okerson]
Host/Co-Host of many World Cup-associated things, mostly long ago. A couple of small wins as well, which is nice.

Chapter 21: Where We Stand

May 23, 2033
Adab City
Following the match against Atheara

Four draws in a row. Adab’s daring campaign in Group 4 of the World Cup 88 qualifiers had initially been greeted with much jubilation by the people, who watched in amazement as this unranked side – composed of a mix of young stars and veteran figures – held off superior and more experienced teams in the first World Cup campaign in fourteen years. But as the qualifiers dragged on, the initial euphoria began to fizzle into worry and concern that the team was not doing more to solidify their position in the group and ensure qualification to the World Cup. Their initial triumph had placed on them expectations that seemed excessive. Manager Saad Kaykali even had to ask the public not to expect too much from the team. “When you start with a bang, there’s always a chance that the spark will fade a little bit along the way,” he said at the press conference after the fourth draw against Atheara. “That’s normal, that’s life. We’re doing the best that we can right now but there will always be ups and downs.”

As for the young man who, in the eyes of many, had become one of the keys to Adab’s success on the pitch, he tried to put all the negative chatter on the back of his mind. No need to think too much about them.

People called him a wonderkid, a prodigy, a future star, but at the end of the day man himself wanted to simply be a football player. And at the end of the day, after the match against Atheara at the Adab City Stadium, he simply wanted to go home and do his homework. Normal schooling had become impossible for him, but the Football Association, working with the Ministry of Education, had set up a long-distance learning system for its players, and he had quite benefited from it.

As the rays of the sun faded away into the dark blue sky, soon to turn black, Alulim Sinmuballit’s chauffeur drove him from the stadium to his home at the outskirts of the city, the first home that he owned himself. Being labeled the future of Adabian football had brought with it not just fame but also money. He even now had an accountant to help manage his finances.

But he just wanted to be home, to be alone, to take a breather, to relax. Arriving at home, he went straight to the shower, thanking Allah for every drop of water that streamed down his tired, sweaty body. He resolved to cook dinner (he lived alone) and do his homework, but first there was something else after all: a video call.

And now he sat before his laptop, waiting for the person on the other end of the call to appear. It didn’t take long before her figure emerged on the screen, her blonde hair undone and running down her hair, her grin pure and innocent. God, she really is pretty.

“Hi Ems,” he began, his words coming out rather slowly, checking to see if the camera was on. “Can you see me?”

“Of course I can, mister, I have eyes,” Emma Arthur replied dryly, smirking, leaning closer to the screen. “Remind me again why we’re doing this?”

“Oh, you said you want some help with your homework.”

“Nice to see that you still remember,” she giggled. “Ah, can you believe what the girls are saying? Rebekah, Tansu, fuck them, they just kept teasing me about that.”

“Teasing you about what?” he asked, somewhat innocently.

“Oh come on, you know what I’m talking about,” said Emma, leaning even closer. Alulim found himself pushing his chair forward to get closer to the laptop. He just felt like doing it.

“Oh yeah,” he said, nodding. “Well, uh, where do we stand on that issue?”

“It’s just nonsense,” she giggled again. “Silly girls’ talk. Alright, now tell me, what did Emperor Tizqar I do to protect Adab against Ottoman re-invasion?”

“Hey, Kara, can you hear me?” Rashid Abbas, assistant manager of the national team, sat in his room, looking beyond the window into the darkening sky, putting the phone over his ear.

“Hey bro,” Kara Abbas replied. Her voice was clear as day, but at the same time she also sounded tired. “How are you? I caught some of the Atheara match on the telly. I think y’all did great.”

“Thanks, sis.” Rashid smiled to himself, turning his chair to face the wall, as his thoughts took him to his sister and father back in Faraby. “Did Dad watch the match too?”

“He did.” Kara appeared enthusiastic on the first sentence, but soon her voice lowered. “I don’t know if he understood what he was watching, though, or if he still remembers anything about football.” She paused momentarily. “He slept little last night, just went back and forth across the room. Sabiha finally got him to bed at 4 a.m. I really feel sorry for her.”

Rashid sighed. His father’s nurses had been of great help to the family, and he and Kara very much appreciated their presence. “You know, there’s something I’ve got to tell you,” Kara continued. “So there’s this guy at the office and, uh, he’s kinda cute and kind, and-“

“Oh, of course.” Rashid broke into a hearty laughter, leaning back on his chair and tapping on the table near him. “Hey, what? You’re scared of dating a coworker?”

“Well, he works at a different department, akshually, so-“

“That’s even better! No need to worry about workplace conflict or bias or all that, I guess.”

“Well, yeah,” Kara agreed, if rather hesitantly. “He asked me out earlier today, actually, and, uh, I said give me time to think. I mean, he’s cute and we do have this kind of connection but he’s, like, ten years younger than me-“

“Hey, if that’s your concern, it doesn’t have to be a concern at all. I mean, you’re 36. You’re still young and beautiful, you deserve love, even with someone who is beautiful,” Rashid said. Then his tone turned more wistful. “You know, Dad would love to see you get married and have kids and be happy. And you deserve it.”

“You too, big bro,” she replied. “Have you not found anyone in Adab City?” she added, this time with a slight giggle.

Rashid smiled, but also went silent. His distant gaze turned to the atmosphere, turning increasingly black though faintly dotted with stars. When he did speak, his voice was more regretful and resigned.

“I’m too old, sis. I’ve lost too many years of my life.”

When you are already acquire a taste of big sports, and then you find yourself out of business, sometimes restless souls yearn for what they saw and did in past, with all that fuss and emotions. So some inhabitants of the countries that have refused to participate in major sports any more feel some slight nostalgia for the whole atmosphere of big football.

This also applies to bears.

Because of this, one fine day Marra Norr-Vurra was aboard a Trolleborg Wings aircraft en route to Trolleborg with a ticket to the WCQ football match between the local national team and Al Qurija. On the top of all Trolleborg is deservedly considered the prime of tourist destinations in the world - 354th in the ratings of the whole multiverse. And if we also add that the country is among the leaders in environmental beauty, generating feel of safe and prosperous nation, then this high place is not surprising at all. So that Marra decided to combine watching football and getting to know with what this place have to offer.

As if specially for such occassion, “Trolleborg Wings” announced 25% off every ticket due to the first anniversary of this airline.

Although the trip from International Democratic Union to the South Pacific turned out very long and expected be rather demanding, it should be noted that everything is greatly simplified by the excellent conditions on board in the aircraft, the absence of red tape with luggage and customs, and the convenient quick trip from the airport to the city, and, last but not least, the quality of rest in the chosen place of residence. Marra not without some doubts about how does the local hotels and apartments feel about a real bear on the premises, booked room in the posh (accordingly to the reviews) hotel just in the centre of the city. Despite uncertainity, here she was greeted without any emotions, and settle in a specially adapted room, where even something like a small forest was made.

But, although she had a great rest, the next morning there was no time to lie down, since Marra had to hurry to the stadium, where she booked a tour around - because, as she likes to make clear at home, before you do anything, you need to sniff everything thoroughly.

A walk in a charming park, more even like a forest, on the way to the stadium located at the cape, protruding into the sea and densely wooded, delighted the soul of Marra, who always meticulously evaluated cities not by the height of skyscrapers or the wealth of shop windows, but by the presence\abundance of such corners. People on the way are not scare from a view of big bear wandering around, and some of them waving hands politely. Ten minutes before the appointed time Marra was already next to the stadium, which looks like a solid-sized mountain with stairs and portals cut into it. Only on the mountains there are no huge lighting masts.

Image
The group gathered for this tour was quite large, and, so to say, pleasantly smelling – obviously there was a peoples who are not indifferent to football and hasn’t any prejudices against talking bears.

So many computer assistants of every sort she met on the way from airport to the stadium via hotel that when two minutes before the appointed time instead of the already expected phantom, a real guide came, Marra was very surprised.

“Well then,” – the guide began. – “Hello, dear football fans, my name is Thorstein, I am your guide today. As you already know, today we are going on a tour of the stadium, the largest sports facility in our country, that was named after December 1, most memorable day of the long history of our nation. We will walk through the dressing rooms, go out onto the field through the tunnel that the players pass before the games, go up to sit in the stands, walk around the field and to the point where our version of VIP box is. You know, not so long ago we discovered such a strange feature of many world stadiums as the presence of several zones with special entrances, different levels of convenience, choice of food and drinks and so on, and we do not consider it necessary to adopt this practice. And I must add, that the sports museum is not included in the tour, but you can visit it yourself, he is right next to the stadium. Now let's go”.

Crowd followed guide into the courtyard, and then to the right, where the changing rooms were:

Image
“It is from here that the teams' players will go to the field tomorrow. Everything is equipped with the best available things, even the chairs are not so simple, but special massage ones with several modes of work, but, as you can see, you will not find any special luxury here. Both locker rooms, by the way, are identical. We have heard about stadiums, where guests have a barn, and the owners have a palace, but we are not adopted this idea. Our team's dressing room is on the right, the head coach usually sits in second place from the entrance, the goalkeeper and Stuart Kerr directly opposite him. Now I will turn on a hologram and you will be able to film everything, as if you yourself were attending a briefing of our players before the match”.

And in fact, when the sightseers moved into the locker room, they immediately stopped at the door, not wanting to interfere with the head coach of the Trolleborg national team Morten Troghil, who, with intense gestures, outlined a plan of action for corners. Kasper Windass asked a question, and the coach answered him, drawing diagrams on a electronic device displaying the images in the air above the center of the room. On this tourists overcome their shyness and began to sat around in picturesque poses. Someone adviced the head coach, someone, on the contrary, asked him a question, in a word, the photos came out wonderfully well.

“Well, are you amused enough?” - Torstein good-naturedly. – “Now it's time to go to the game. Here they go, clattering their boots. And go straight to the edge of the field”.

Shinonome Kyoai - International

Moving up the table.
A draw and important win sees Kandorith moving up.

TENKYO, KANYORI — While the start of the qualification campaign was rather disappointing, the Kandorese seem to be taking control of their destiny at the moment. Everyone remembers that they were sitting halfway the table, but right now the team is firmly in third place, just behind Drawkland who were overtaken by Kelssek.

For the Kandorese team it is crucial to take control of the upcoming games and keep winning as the first and second place seem to be slipping away. There is no rest for the wicked and in this case the wicked are the Nishikori. Drawkland and Kelssek are ahead of the team, but not by a whole lot and this is exactly what Watanabe needs to make up for.

Once again the qualification is within the grasp of the Kandorese, the question is if they can overcome the downfall and look forward towards rectifying their mistakes. Both Drawkland and Kelssek are in front of Kandorith with just a few points between them and this is causing Group one to become a very interesting and nail biting group indeed. There's a lot of tension in the air, while the expectation is high.

In the end the scenarios are there once again; it seems like the faith of the Kandorese qualification is not in their own hands once again but depends on what the number one, two and four are doing in the upcoming games. Everything could still go towards Watanabe's squad in the most extreme case. Yet in the most awful case; Kandorith could find themselves eliminated once again.

The facts are: the Kandorese momentum seems to be slowing down with a draw against Gyatso-Kai at home and only a one goal win against Saltstead. Of course the win was an important one, but the fans were hoping for more. After a few excellent matches the Kandorese team seems to be slowing down once again. From here Watanabe needs to build and start building wins again if not; it would mean elimination.

The second part of the qualifiers is full of excitement and Kelssek taking the number one spot was not expected at all and so the wait is on, the wait for the Bushi Nishikoro to take on the role of the underdog again in this group and beat either Drawkland or Kelssek to the number two spot and who knows: even the number one spot.

Lifted Lamp, Chapter 7
Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6
OOC: I was struggling to express the sentiment behind Koirala's statement until viewing (by happy coincidence) Philosophy Tube's excellent recent video essay on ignorance. I am indebted to Abigail Thorn and company for the concepts and terminology I needed to write this post. Any poor representation of said concepts here is, of course, purely my own.

The SCFA's statement to address the deplorable conduct of the Imperial Ministry of Sport over the past several years had been drafted and re-drafted over the past month. Vang's patience with Koirala had begun to run thin by the end of that stretch, but she'd been nothing but positive when Ailen finally contacted her to schedule the press conference. It was scheduled mid-week, avoiding conflict with matches and training sessions for Vang and Volam, in the evening for maximum visibility. No hint about what Ailen would be addressing was given explicitly to the invited press, but the inclusion of the two expat footballers gave them all the information they needed to know this evening could be very momentous indeed.

Ailen took a breath to calm her nerves, and smiled at Vang and Volam.

"Ready?"

Vang grinned back, "We had a fifteen match winless streak last season, I can handle some hostile journalists."

Volam was a little more subdued, "Nervous but excited. I think you're the one who'll get most of the tough questions anyway."

"You're probably right. Let's go."

Ailen led them out into the press room, seating Vang to her left and Volam to her right before settling into the empty center chair.

"Thank you for coming out on a Wednesday night everyone. I'll be making a brief statement, after which myself, Ms. Vang, and Ms. Volam will be available for questions."

She took up her printed copy and began to read.

"For too long now, the international footballing community, and indeed the multiverse as a whole has willingly overlooked the actions of the Imperium of Squornshelous. Even here in this nation, which should know better than any, we are guilty of this ignorance. I will not criticize anyone for their inaction in the past. I personally did not allow myself to truly know what it was to be under the thumb of the Imperium, whether in its football program or simply trying to live a normal life. But I cannot, we cannot continue to allow our anxiety about the implications of this knowledge to keep us from facing it."

"With me here today are just two of the victims of that government's exploitation of its national football team. Tyra Volam's story became well known at the most resent Independent Associations Championship, when, on foreign soil, Imperial secret police detained her without trial. We cannot know what might have happened to her had she not been rescued, but I for one do not need to know the full depth of what they had planned to know that it is wrong. Lyyti Vang, who also joins me today, had a less publicized escape. As a star on the Imperium's roster, she attracted the attention of a government bureaucrat whose authority over the team was near absolute. I should not need to point out the potential for corruption, nor delve into the sordid details here. Suffice it to say, this bureaucrat sought, under threat of retaliation against Ms. Vang, her friends, and her family, to extract personal favors from her. That both of these women had the resourcefulness and courage to escape their respective situations is an inspiration, but should also be a dire warning to us. We cannot comfort ourselves with their happy outcomes, while refusing to acknowledge that many others, less courageous perhaps, or simply less fortunate, have been unable to reach the same resolution."

"People of the press, of the World Cup Committee, of the multiverse at large, I ask you now to look where you have previously been unwilling. Turn your eyes on the atrocities committed by the Imperium, and do not blink. It is not an easy thing to do, I'll grant, but it is something that we must all do. Every match that the Imperial team plays, every point that is added to their tally, serves to whitewash their government's actions. Knowing this, we can no longer neglect to take action ourselves. Some may suggest that it is not my place, as simply the leader of a football association, to thusly condemn another nation's style of government or way of life. To that I respond that it is the place of all of us to do so, as citizens of the world."

"Accordingly, the SCFA calls upon the World Cup Committee and the IAC Organizing Committee to immediately ban the Imperium of Squornshelous from all sanctioned competitions until such time as the following criteria are met. First, the formation of a truly independent football association, free of all ties to and interference from the Imperial government. Second, the investigation by neutral parties of the incidents leading up to Ms. Vang's and Ms. Volam's defections to ascertain and appropriately punish guilty parties, as well as to determine if any other players or staff have been the victims of similar misconduct. Third, the implementation of reforms to prevent any future players or staff from being victimized by similar corrupt acts in the future.

"I would like to include wholesale regime change in the Imperium as a criterion, but acknowledge that this likely falls far beyond the purview of sporting bodies such as the WCC and IACOC. Instead I will call upon the leaders of the world to likewise look upon the Imperium with truly open eyes, and to acknowledge that they can no longer sit by and assure themselves that it is someone else's problem."

88th World Cup Qualification MD10 LIVE
Jeruselem vs. Mercedini
@ Jerusalem City Stadium - Jerusalem, Jeruselem

Good evening one and all and welcome back home to the World Cup Qualification Group, today we're in Jeruselem for the second match featuring these two teams, which is anticipated to be a closely fought match against between two of the teams who are fighting it out for a spot at the World Cup. Jeruselem are seasoned veterans in situations like this, but so are Mercedini, so we could be seeing the game of the round not just in the group, but in the qualification round so far. If you missed it, Mercedini sit in fifth following the first round robin of games, while Jersuelem sit at the top of the tree. Billic has stated he has prepared as much as he could for this match, to secure a win which could be curial to the qualfiication hopes of the Golden Eagles, however we have seen that all prep could go down to the toilet against an experienced team like the one they are facing today. The setting is certainly a grand one, and it's one they hope to leave with at least a point, or it's back to the drawing board for Billic's men.

0' - Out come the teams into a cauldron of noise and fanfare, both sets of fans are ready for this match in their distinctive colours, but there are plenty of flags flying for both nations for this Group 10 match. Mercedini have a large contingency this time with many travelling over to Jeruselem for this match, they will hope that Dini will be able to stay in contention at the conclusion in this match, so win or a draw is beneficial in this case. No kit clash sp Mercedini are in their familiar blue and black once again, repping the national colours, while Jeruselem are in their fabulous pink get-up. Billic has named another full strength side, seeming like he has taken his final chance with both hands. The team had picked up some momentum in their first match, so let's see whether they can continue their good form into this reverse fixture!

6' - (JER 0-0 MRC) - Nothing really of mention early on, but Mercedini are registering early domination in terms of possession, hitting the right side of 70% in the opening five minutes, but that hasn't translated into any chances or territory just yet. The crowd is relatively quiet in the stadium thus far, but that's down to the complete shut down that Dini have performed when it comes to the midfield . Mercedini haven't asserted themselves on the match just yet, although it's still early days in this match, 0-0.

11' - (JER 0-0 MRC) - First chance of the game and it's gone to Jeruselem as a matter of fact. Their goal scorer in the reverse leg, Kate Dallas, picked up the ball on the edge of the box and attempted to curl into the top corner, but Hosset in the Mercedinian net was equal to the shot, and parried the ball over for the corner which was dealt with. The home crowd were up on their feet, but were denied a chance to celebrate with the fantastic save. It shows the quality of the Jeruselem front line & the visiting goalkeeper and acts as a warning signal to their opposition to be wary of their shooting power. At the other end, Chillotov and Dostalok have been fairly mute in this game, and have yet to record a shot in this match so far. Jeruselem have stated their case for the top spot early on, could they still extend their lead?

17' - (JER 1-0 MRC) - Image Early goal and one that Mercedini had been warned about, and they have paid the price for that with Jeruselem going a goal up in under twenty minutes. It's Ina Ninomae with the goal after Dini didn't clear a corner. Guwa Gaw whipped it in with pace and was tamely punched out by Vorsini. Ninomae was in the right place at the right time to poke the ball into the open net with the goalie retreating back to cover the angle. I could say that it has come against the run of play due to the possession, but it's only the team in pink which has truly threatened. The good run looks like it will continue, it's 1-0 to Jeruselem, but with well over 80 minutes of the match still to play here in Jerusalem

24' - (JER 1-0 MRC) - Following that goal, the team seems to have taken a bit of a knock as Chillotov and Dostalok are forced back into the midfield to get more action on the ball, some glum faces in the blue and black portion of the stadium, although it seems inevitable that Dini will facet a chance from all of this possession. In a team which has struggled in the final third thus far, it seems like Giorgio Gucci is the bright spark, and is beginning to make in roads versus his Jeruselemic (?) counterpart. Time is beginning to tick down in this first half, and a goal is needed to keep the game interesting, but if the Golden Eagles can limit the number of chances going to other way, then they have a chance to equalise and go for a winner. Twenty-five minutes gone, and Jeruselem still have the lead thanks to that Ninomae strike.

30' - (JER 1-0 MRC) - We're just past the half hour mark and Dini have a chance to equalise via the penalty spot, Chillotov weaved his way into the box and attempted to lob the ball over to Gucci who was arriving at the time for a potential finish. However, the ball was blocked by the outstretched arm of Matt Gates which was met with a quick whistle and a point to the spot. A yellow card added insult to injury, but it may have stopped an almost certain goal in the 2-on-2 counter attack. It looks as if Dostalok will pick up this one to bring the Golden Eagles back on terms. It's a lucky escape for the Pot 2 side, but you have to take them when you're given them.

31' - (JER 1-1 MRC) - Image Up he steps and up he scores! GOAL! Dostalok sends the keeper the wrong way as he coolly slots to his left hand side of the net for the equaliser. The Starling striker has finally proved his worth in this game after being relatively unseen throughout most of this first half. He does a knee-slide in front of the travelling fans, with their spirits now lifted because their team are on the board. Billic is up from the dugout and adjusting some of the players positions before the restart, this match now takes on a new perspective. Both teams have scored, both teams ideally need to win to further their progression, but with 15 mins to go it's 1-1!

39' - (JER 1-1 MRC) - Time is running out for both side to make any further moves in this first half as Dini try to add to their tally while Jeruselem, are trying to hold out for the half time whistle. The midfield has been where most of the battles have been fought, and it is where the ball is now has Nymark fights with his counterpart for the ball, but he lays it off to Karlovic who can look up to spot a pass. Neither team have utilised their wingers that much since Mercedini found their equaliser from the spot. Not much added time probably, Dini look relatively comfortable with their performance at the first half comes to an end, it's just that the goals department has been lacking.

45' - (JER 1-1 MRC) - No time to be added on for the end of the first half as Mercedini and Jeruselem fight to a draw after 45. Jeruselem raised the roof at the start of the game when they went ahead through a scrappy corner. Ninomae stuck their leg out to send the ball into the net for a great opener for the home side. Throughout the first half, Dini had the lion's share of possession, and that begun to show towards the end of the first forty-five. Dini were finally level after the half our mark thanks to converted penalty which came from a clumsy handball from Gates, the Jeruselem defender. In the end, still plenty to play for. Half-time in Jerusalem, it's Jeruselem (with an E) 1, Mercedini 1.

HALF TIME
Jeruselem 1 - 1 Mercedini

Ninomae 17' • Dostalok 30' (P)

Well, well, well, who would have thought that. Jerselem have been flying high but once again it's a tight affair between themselves and the Golden Eagles, who are putting together a good performance away from home. Mercedini only mustered three shots on target throughout that whole first half, including that penalty which was converted. There seems to be no tactical changes from Billic to begin this second period, it seems he has faith that these players can see out the game. It is a precarious position, if I we're a betting I would like to think that the Golden Eagles are going to overcome their original deficit and see out the game in their favour, but we thought that before and Jeruselem managed to pull out a 2-1 smash and grab at the Sports City Stadium. Dini will kick us off, kicking from right to left in Jerusalem as the sun begins to fade.

48' - (JER 1-1 MRC) - The wind is picking up in the stadium, which could cause some problems for both teams if they choose to opt for the aerial route. For now, Dini are controlling the passing play on the floor, as Billic only just emerges from the stadium's tunnel, with some of his coaching staff and some of the substitutes. That first half performance should be enough for Billic to keep an eye on this match, although previous Mercedinian sides have overcome previous scares in the past. The neutrals are trying to get behind the teams with some local songs, although a fair portion of the crowd seems less than enthused to say the least. Only a couple of minutes gone, it remains 1-1 for now.

54' - (JER 1-2 MRC) - Image GOAL! and Dini have completed the comeback in less than ten minutes of this second half, and it's Gucci who has capped off his terrific performance thus far with a goal, coming from another counter attack from a corner at the other end of the pitch. Hosset hoofed the ball up the pitch which gave Karlovic, who was the most advanced player up the field, a chance to control the ball. He held up the ball versus the final man and gave a through ball through to Gucci who was sprinting up the pitch. There was a hint of offside in the play, but Gucci was before the half way line so was played on. The Cazadores player had the freedom of Jeruselem and only had the goalkeeper to beat, but he lobbed the ball over the approaching goalkeeper and into the net for a 2-1 lead. Gucci's star is rising in the Mercedinian world, after seemingly dropping off the map following his move to Audioslavia. He has now been rediscovered by Billic, and it is a discovery that is paying dividends. 2-1!

58' - (JER 1-3 MRC) - Image GOAL! where was this team in the first half? It seems like the Golden Eagles have found their clinical edge at the right time as they put clear daylight between themselves and Jeruselem in this match. It's Dostalok with his second of the game, with Gucci continuing to pull strings in this game, providing the assist for their third after scoring the second. It was a piece of sustained pressure from the Golden Eagles, which resulted in a cross being whipped in with place by Gucci close to the by-line. The ball made it's way through a sea of bodies before meeting the slide of Dostalok who only needed to made of contact with the ball to bundle it into the net. Presic was there as an insurance policy, but he wasn't required and it was the Starling striker who netted his second and Dini's third of the game. Game won? Quite possibly. 3-1.

62' - (JER 1-4 MRC) - Image Goodness me, if the game wasn't won at 3-1, it could certainly be over at 4-1. It has been a devastating ten minute period for Mercedini as they run riot away from home, three goals in eight minutes has put them in a commanding position to take all three points and make Group 10 all the more interesting. It seems like it's too much for some fans as they begin to file out of the stadium with half an hour left. This time it's Karlovic who slotted home from a rebound, although in retrospect it could have been anyone who took it in the end. Pushing for a way back into the game, Jeruselem committed too many men forward, and so a break down in the midfield was pounced upon with four Mercedinian breathing down the necks of three opposition defenders. Chillotov had the ball and decided to take a pop himself, and was parried away by Biden. Their joy was short lived as the ball was collected by Karlovic who took a touch before firing low into the corner of the net. Dostalok and Presic were calling for it, but they were surplus to requirements as the Spartangrad midfielder added his name on a quickly expanding score sheet. It's 4-1 now, will we have any more before the end?

69' - (JER 1-4 MRC) - Dini have the ball in the net again and did have a fifth on the board, but it's been ruled out by VAR for a foul in the build up. It was fairly similar as to how the last chance of the game was created about seven minutes ago. Nymark bundled over Amelia Watson
and brilliantly floated a ball over the top for Chillotov to chase, the Lajuno striker hit it first time into the top corner for a supposed fifth. However, upon review, it seems like you can't bulldoze through a midfielder like you could in the past, and so the play was bought back for the infringement. There's no fifth goal, but it's the Mercedinians who are pushing for a cricket score in this one!

73' - (JER 1-4 MRC) - Following that flurry of goals and fouls, the game seems to have cooled somewhat from the red hot action which kicked off this half, with the clock ticking down on an inevitable Mercedinian victory, which is weird to stay given the start to this match. Jeruslem have the ball in the Mercedinian half and are looking to find a goal back and give them at least a little bit of life in this match. However, ever second that ticks away is slowly sucking the life out of the challenge from the home side. Billic looks to be ordering his team back, and not to get too greedy.

82' - (JER 1-4 MRC) - Jeruselem hit the bar late in the day with Dallas pushing for a goal for their tally. Hosset was beaten in the goal, he was thankful to see the ball catapult off the bar and out for a goal kick. Billic's tactics to hold back and see out the game has invited pressure and the odd chance, Jeruselem are taking that opportunity with both hands but are yet to find the net thus far. Less than ten minutes to go, this could be the route to close the gap for Jeruselem. They are tasting their first defeat, with other teams use the same code which Dini did to crack the current leaders. It remains 4-1, Dini with a great start to the second half!

88' - (JER 2-4 MRC) - Image Well, well, well, it seems like Jeruselem will have the last laugh in this game after all. They find themselves what seems like a consolation goal with minutes to go in this game to bring the score back to 4-2 and it's Dallas with the goal. It was simply a lofted ball from Ninomae which found the unseen run of Dallas. It put the striker through on goal who took a touch round the goalkeeper before they slotted it home. Defensive frailties has come to the forefront again, but the attackers have bailed out the team once again. 4-2 as we head into added time.

90+1' - (JER 3-4 MRC) - Image Is there time for an equaliser? Dallas has netted a third for Jeruselem to bring them within one of a famous comeback for the home side. It came from a long ball forward which was originally cleared by a punch from Hosset. Ninomae gathered the ball on the edge of the box and looked to have taken a shot, but the ball was intercepted by Dallas who deflected the ball in off her shin. Those which were on the way out have now re-taken their seats. One minute to go in added time for Jeruselem to find a goal which would rock this place. 4-3!

90+6' - (JER 3-4 MRC) - The referee blows his whistle for the end of what was a rather comfortable game in the end. Mercedini have been known to run up the scores against opponents in the past, but it was Jeruselem who made this match interesting at the very end. A Dostalok penalty levelled the score before half-time, before a devastating eight minute spell which saw Dostalok score his second, plus Karlovic and Gucci got their names on the score sheet. 4-1 up at that point, Dini cruised down to third gear for the remainder of the match, keeping their opponents at bay. A fifth was disallowed, but it would ultimately be Jeruselem who bookend the match with their two goals at the end to help their goal difference and make the result a lot more respectable. It was a spirited performance from the visitors, but they fall to Pot 2 Mercedini by four goals to three. Making the group looker ever tighter with games running out!

FULL TIME
Jeruselem 3 - 4 Mercedini

Ninomae 17', Dallas 88', 90+1' • Dostalok 30' (P), 58', Gucci 54', Karlovic 62'

Both teams are now firmly in contention for the top pot in the group, but Jeruselem still holds firm at the top with a three point gap to second placed San Ortelio! Next up is San Ortelio at home for Mercedini, as they hope to take second place in the group with a win in the Sports City Stadium. Will the win here tonight give the Golden Eagles new found confidence? We will see you in Zoloroni to find out, see ya!

A STATEMENT FROM THE HOLY EMPIRE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION

The Holy Empire Football Association wishes to express its concern over some of the reaction from Ordinary Reality fans towards the Empire's World Cup 88 squad.

While officials and opposition teams have been overwhelmingly welcoming and positive, fans have - we regret to say - often been hostile in their reactions to the point of being outright abusive. This was particularly an issue in the match away to Siapa ya the other day.

HEFA entirely appreciates that a certain level of banter is only to be expected in international football. Robust fan responses form part of the rich tapestry of the World Cup's culture and traditions. Neither HEFA nor the World Cup squad object to Dagon being referred to as 'fish face' for example, as this is a simple statement of fact. Nyarlathotep has also asked us to clarify that he does not believe that calling him 'you black bastard' is a matter of racism - something which all civilised mundy nations rightfully condemn - as he is quite literally jet black, and is often indeed popularly characterised by the depth of his blackness.

No, instead we wish to complain about the growing number of insulting football chants that have been directed towards our team. Some examples follow:

He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old,
And where They shall break through again.
He knows where They have trod earth's fields,
And where They still tread them
And why no one can behold Them as They tread
So Yog-Sototh is a bit of a shit, yeah

Of the fecundity of the earth there is no end
Her womb breeds monsters unglimpsed by those who dwell under the sun
And her twisting entrails crawl with things white and blind.
These are the children of Shub-Niggurath,
Who is called the Goat With One Thousand Young
So she's a really shit mother, isn't she?

Tsathoggua dwells deep beneath the earth in N'kai.
Tsathoggua once dwelt inside Mount Voormithadreth
But he but left after the continent iced over.
What a cowardly little shit he is.

Outside the ordered universe
Is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion
Which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity
The boundless daemon sultan Azathoth
Whose name no lips dare speak aloud
Azathoth is an idiot god
Azathoth is an idiot god
Azathoth is a shitty idiot god

Our captain has come in for particular abuse, as shown by these two sampled chants from the recent Siapa ya game:

I have looked upon all the universe has to hold of horror
And even the skies of spring and flowers of summer must ever afterward be poison to me
Because Cthulhu took a massive stinky shit in my garden

Cthulhu cannot be described
There is no language for such abysms of shrieking and immemorial lunacy
Such eldritch contradictions of all matter, force, and cosmic order.
A mountain walked or stumbled.
Which is why the big shit can't shoot straight.

These chants are causing great distress to our team. They may be ancient eldritch horrors, but they are also sensitive souls who enjoy poetry and making new friends among the World Cup community. It is a source of significant pain to them they some nations are choosing to ignore their silky smooth footballing skills and kindly disposition to target them via cheap and badly written football chants that are obsessively focused on faeces. Also, bigotry is just as unacceptable when directed towards ancient beings of unimaginable power as it would be towards other sentient beings.

Why our opponents are so faecally obsessed is not for us to speculate. Notwithstanding this, we understand that a prominent mundy philosopher once argued that the anal stage is the period of human development occurring at about one to three years of age. Around this age, a human child begins to toilet train, which brings about the child's fascination in the erogenous zone of the anus. The erogenous zone is focused on the bowel and bladder control. Therefore, some believe that the human libido becomes briefly focused on controlling the bladder and bowel movements. The anal stage coincides with the start of the child's ability to control their anal sphincter, and therefore their ability to pass or withhold faeces at will. If the children during this stage can overcome the conflict it will result in a sense of accomplishment and independence. Negative parent-child interactions in the anal stage, including early or harsh toilet training, can lead to the development of an anal-retentive personality. If the parents are too forceful or harsh in training the human child to control their own bowel movements, the child may react by deliberately retaining their bowel movements in rebellion. They will form into an adult who hates mess, is obsessively tidy and punctual. These adults can sometimes be stubborn and are prone to scatological chanting during World Cup Qualifiers.

We believe that the World Cup Committee faces two courses of action here:

1) Politely ask opposition fans to tone down some of their chants, and issue fines to those host federations whose fans persist in this type of behaviour.

or

2) Commission a multiverse-wide study into the intersection between anal erogenous zones, the developing sexual awareness of children, and faeces-obsessed insulting football chants. Our boffins at the Institute of Oneirology at the Imperial University have developed a new anal probe specially designed to help with this study, and propose to support this study by using it on all opposition fans, officials, and team members who travel to the Holy Empire for the remainder of the World Cup - though only if option 1 does not prove viable.

Much as we would delight in proceeding with the second course of action, we believe that the World Cup Committee may find the first course of action causes considerably less distress across the multiverse.

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn.

In the first few hours of the region of Anaia, a few uncertainties have been cleared up. While our Foreign Ministry announced no changes to our visa policy, the Foreign Ministries of several Atlantian Oceanian nations did announce changes - and not for the benefit of Ko-orenites abroad. Not long after, the first worrying reports came in from the Ministry of Trade and Industry: Yv Guillaume burst into the office of Laurderinthen to bring some bad news. "Sir, tariffs are imposed on goods imported from Atlantian Oceania."

"That was only to be expected."

"They're being imposed a lot quicker than we expected, though. I'll keep monitoring the situation and will report back if we know more."

"That's all we can do now. Thank you."

"Really? 'They're being imposed a lot quicker than we expected?' What in the world did they expect? Mrs. Speaker, what in the world did they expect, I wonder to think!"

"The comments made by Mrs. Claringbold of the Parti Démocratique are clear and have been recorded. Thank you for your contribution. I would then like to give the leader of the Parti des Régions a moment to speak, as planned. Mrs. yGawllpewg, have you prepared your statement?"

"Now, Mrs. Speaker, I'm not done yet. It is obvious that the people of Ko-oren have once again not been given the chance to be the authors of their own fates! Bring more democracy to Ko-oren!"

"Please, Mrs. Claringbold, your time is over. The leader of the Parti des Régions, if you please."

"Thank you, Mrs. Speaker. I, too, would like to explicitly question the decision making process before signing the Declaration. What was factored into the decision? The predicted financial consequences do not look good. The cultural consequences are non-existant. Besides the Declaration, which other promises have been made to the Ko-orenite government to make this signing worthwhile? I know my colleagues of the Yoshima Independence Party will speak later today, surely about the consequences of Anaia for their part of the country, but on behalf of all communities on the periphery, I would like to see a report by the Ministry of Regional and Local Affairs on how exactly Mawryshire, West Strand Riding, Aerellen, Noordrug, Yoshima, and Finisterre will benefit from this."

"Excuse me, Mrs. yGawllpewg, but the Chairman of Parliament has just received news that must be shared before further addresses can be made."

"As long as it doesn't cut into my total time on the podium..."

"Mr. yFaeffrewn, if you please."

"Thank you, Mrs. Speaker. As part of the Declaration of Foxchester negotiations, it has turned out that the Ko-orenite signature was secured only by offers in return. Ko-oren will host a significant part of Anaian offices, and will chair talks between Anaia and Atlantian Oceania regarding the Calanian situation. Where these talks will be held, is as of yet unknown, but our Secretary of International Representation, Josiah Thompson, will likely be the person facilitating the civility in the talks - at least from the Anaian side."

"Well, this is what we wanted, isn't it? Ko-oren in a central place on the world's stage?"

"Hereby a formal request to the Meritocratic Party's leader to cease their comments. Thank you for your address, Mr. yFaeffrewn. With that, let's return to the address of the Parti des Régions, Mrs. yGawllpewg."

"Thank you, Mrs. Speaker. Despite what the region of Anaia offered in return, I still rather would have wanted that the government had informed the Parliament of their intentions, had ran a Parliamentary vote, and answered our questions up front. I do not want to claim that the meritocracy failed us here, but the lack of information has been staggering. I have praised PM Laurderinthen's efforts in promoting our role in recent years, but this move has set him back to square one in my mind."

Ko-oren 0–2 Frestovenia @ Armskirk Municipal Ground, Maynard & HUElavia 1–1 Ko-oren
One window, two games. First the onlookers in Maynard were confronted with a Dragonflies team that was maybe marginally better than their regular old Maynard AFC that share the Armskirk Municipal. I'm not sure who that's a bigger insult to: Maynard or the national team, but they would both deserve it. Now Frestovenia have been a much better team than given credit for in the first half of qualification, and they pushed the Green and Blue to its limits as well. Lots of fouls, first from Ko-oren (to unsettle the visitors who were clearly much better than what they prepared for) but later from both sides (to attack/protect a lead). This was also the first red card of the campaign for us: after 90+1 minutes, Van Schelven brought down Lustorp, who, at a 0-2 lead, hoped to add a third to complete the humiliation. The ensuing free kick sailed wide right - that was never the problem. Van Schelven's challenge, if successful, might have given the ball back to Olink to launch a last ditch attempt but even then, it was 1) not the time and 2) not the place and 3) definitely not the situation to attempt a sliding tackle like he did. Luckily for Van Schelven he still appears as 990 out of 990 minutes - the boon of getting sent off in extra time - but it surely was a cynical, emotional play that Juliasterinthen rightfully made an example out of. Your centreback needs to know better, and despite the Dragonflies' focus having been on discipline in challenges for a while, these things still happen. Then again, Ko-oren doesn't often lose anymore, and we've been unlucky in the 'goals conceded' department, so you have to forgive some emotions in there.

Looking at the amount of goals conceded: have the Dragonflies forgot how to play their successful combinations of the previous edition? What's wrong?

Maybe it's just a string of weird results, and we're regressing back to the norm. That norm obviously being: concede few goals, lose few games. In the next game, against qualification hopefuls HUElavia, both teams scored a goal. It's also an away game, so you'll again have to excuse a draw - that happens. The product on the field was visibly better than in the previous game and it's commendable that Juliasterinthen started the same XI: a testament to how quickly Van Schelven and co. can turn it around. HUElavia had the last laugh (or "HUE", around these parts, surely) when they equalised well into the second half, and for a moment it looked like several of our best eleven were losing their head again. Then Odgers got pulled for Yokota, who told everyone off, and the final 15 minutes were a lot more like we're used to.

Ko-oren 2–1 Vdara @ Stade sur la Baie, Aminey & Communist Republic of North Yorkshire 0–6 Ko-oren
Keep believing, and the results will come. Vdara, also on the cusp of repeating their World Cup qualification, came to Aminey in the biggest home game of this qualification cycle. Vdara didn't have to travel far, as our newfound Anaian brothers (excuse us the wordplay), but did get handed a 2-1 defeat with the visitors' goal well into the dying minutes of injury time. Our victims vanquished, our ever vigilant eleven victorious as the verdict (a 2-1 victory) veered in our favour. The 5-4-1 was now in full swing and showed it can defeat some of the better opponents you can get at this stage of the cycle, the team traveled to CRONY for the final test of the first half of the qualification campaign. And well, were we confronted with an even better result! One of our largest ever wins, showing that the possession-based formation (rather than a purely counterattacking one) can work in our favour not just by preventing goals but also scoring them. Janoreirinthen opened the score after a minute or so - ranking in the top 2 quickest goals for the Dragonflies - and North Yorkshire was starting at a 3-0 deficit just 15 minutes into the contest. Erisia and Vaugrenard added the other two. From then on, the goal was just to recycle the ball, not making stupid mistakes, and work on the fundamentals. You don't often get the opportunity to do that - treat a competitive game into a glorified exhibition event. Sure, it's not fair towards the hosts, but what else would you do? There's no mercy rule - and so, Vaugrenard and Erisia quickly notched their second goals of the day, and Hilberdink scored his first of the cycle for a 0-6 win. Fantasy owners, you're in luck.

Delaclava 0–2 Ko-oren & Ko-oren 3–0 Txakhaxi @ Rikalathen Arena, Maethoru
Looping back around to the same opponents as we started out with, the Dragonflies added 6 points in convincing wins. Delaclava played at home and still couldn't really pose a threat to Theshendan, while Txakhaxi were simply outclassed in Maethoru. 11 goals in three games - that's gotta be some kind of record for us - and we're cruising towards another World Cup.

Though it's early, our chances look good: four points separate Frestovenia from us in the table. Vdara and HUElavia have lost the plot a little but assuming there will be points lost between the three of them, that cushion will grow a bit as long as we keep griding out the results we need. The signature (low) amount of goals conceded is stabilising as well (three clean sheets in a row now) so after a turbulent start things even out - up till now. Beyond HUElavia there really isn't a big threat, so it's all coming down to our results to these three. And as luck would have it, we face all three in the final four matchdays. So: don't make stupid mistakes, grind out 1-0 wins, and see where we stand by the time the Frestovenia revenge match happens. Make a good impression there and take that confidence into the HUElavia - Vdara doubleheader.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find the time to RP the game against Trolleborg. Deepest apologies to them.

Talkasa - Sylestone

Talkasa (3-4-3): Williamson; Arnolds - Bronte - Moreno; Hart - Blythe - Smith - Franc; Lorenzo - Horthy - Khan (▮ 78’)

Sylestone (5-3-2), (4-4-2): Brick Wall; Ironing Board (▮ 33’) (Drawer 82’) - Toilet - Washing Machine (Nokia 61’) - Sofa (Stove 70’) - Dishwasher; Spiderwebs - Bar Stool - Fridge; Tumble Dryer - Mixer (▮ 15’)

SOMEWHERE, TALKASA - To kick off the second leg of proceedings, the Sentients travelled to Talkasa in what was shaping up to be a do-or-die clash for the Sylestoneans. In fifth place after the first half of qualifying, they needed some wins, and quickly. Over the course of qualifying so far, though, the Sentients had a formidable away record, with three wins and a singular draw to Tequilo. It was their home record that brought them down.

Now, in an unidentified place in Talkasa, Sylestone had to win. As no one knew how to find it, the entire stadium was filled with Talkasans. Exactly what the Sentients needed. More jeering at them, more being told they shouldn’t be allowed to play football.

But they didn’t care. All they were focused on was the game at hand. The big one, against minnows Talkasa. Yet, a 0-0 draw in the first leg, at home, sets up an entertaining away game for Sylestone and with millions of supporters back at home watching on television, it would be horrific if they were to fuck it up.

And seven minutes into the game, they did. A superb tackle from Victor Arnolds turned the possession over as Arnolds passed all the way up the right-wing to where Paul Khan was waiting. He took the ball all the way up to the corner post as the Ironing Board chased after, performing a masterclass of jockeying. Yet, Khan still came out as the victor with a cross into the box, where Horthy was unmarked, running onto the ball. Getting in front of the Sofa, the Talkasan centre-forward timed the header to precision, deflecting it towards the left corner of the goal. The Brick Wall had no chance as the ball hit the inside edge of the post and bounced into the back of the net. Somehow, Talkasa were in the lead and walking all over the Sentients.

In the eleventh minute, Sylestone nearly got one back, though. A pass from the Bar Stool to the Fridge saw the Talkasan midfield in disarray, leaving only Jan Bronte, Alfredo Moreno and Arnolds to dissect before Feodor Williamson in goals. A good pass by the Fridge up to the Mixer nearly achieved this, but Williamson continued his great form in goals, stopping the Mixer’s shot and deflecting it away where Bronte could run onto it.

The Sentients were further disadvantaged when in the fifteenth minute, Arnolds completed a vicious tackle against the Mixer, which could have certainly been a foul. However, the referee disagreed and continued to play on. The Mixer did not like a piece of it and lost control of itself, moving into tackle Arnolds. It was poorly executed and instead scraped against the Talkasan defender’s leg, which formed minor grazes. It probably should have only been a yellow card, but once again, the referee disagreed, pulling a slip of red from his pocket. Sylestone were down to ten… players and the crowd loved it.

Sylestone didn’t get another opportunity until the 30th minute when the Bar Stool, who was playing like an absolute legend in the centre-midfield, completely controlling the game, cleared the ball from the halfway line all the way up to the Tumble Dryer, who was pushing at the defence of the Talkasans. In a moment of brilliance, the Sylestonean forward managed to somehow outclass both Bronte and midfielder Nick Blythe before it had a chance at goal. As usual, the ball was shot as though it was out of a cannon, but Williamson was ready, deflecting the ball off the top of an outstretched right hand and over the crossbar, safely out of play.

After their early blitz, Talkasa had been completely under the pump for nearly half an hour before they finally got another chance at goal. Victor Arnolds had the ball in the defence with heaps of time. He passed to Bronte, who tapped it back when the Tumble Dryer, now the lone forward, began to close in on the centre-back. Noticing Terry Hart up in the left midfield, Arnolds passed to him, who managed to tap it back into Dewey Smith. Smith then crossed the ball out to the right-wing where Franc and Blythe worked together to bypass the Ironing Board and Toilet before the ball found Hamish Lorenzo at the edge of the box. With no one in sight, Lorenzo took the opportunity to shoot, but in an effort to go right for the bottom corner, missed the goal by a hair’s breadth. The Sentients breathed a sigh of relief; they had just escaped from being two goals in the deficit. Sometimes luck does go your way.

Despite this missed opportunity by the opposition and having only ten players, Sylestone continued to dominate the game. However, just as they were beginning to start a slow build-up of play, the half-time whistle blew, stopping what could have been an equaliser before it even started. Wishful thinking, I know, especially with the likes of Feodor Williamson in goals, but hey. Sometimes, wishful thinking can’t hurt.

After experiencing one of the Toaster’s typical outbursts whenever its side is losing, the Sentients wandered back onto the field determined to pick up where they left off - on the attack. They did. Having the advantage of kickoff, the Sentients immediately began pressing into the Talkasan defence, overwhelming them. But alas, the goal, still, could not occur. Not even with the Tumble Dryer in a one-on-one with Williamson. Yes, that’s right. The Tumble Dryer, famous for converting chances into goals, flung the ball straight at the Talkasan goalkeeper. Williamson could not react in time as the ball thumped into his stomach, winding him. Fortunately for the Talkasan, though, the ball bounced away into a free space, allowing him to get up and catch the miscued cross back into the box from the Fridge out on the right wing.

The Sentients continued to remain well on top of the game, but it took until the 65th minute of the match for them to have another chance at goal. It actually occurred from a poor shot at goal from Khan as the ball looped well away from the left post of the goal. The Brick Wall took the resulting goalkick, somehow managing to boot it up to the halfway line where the Bar Stool could perform a series of manoeuvres to break through the Talkasan midfield. The crowd watched with anticipation as the Tumble Dryer was delivered the ball and wound up to shoot again, this time from well outside the box. It was a desperate shot, but it nearly paid off, flying over Williamson’s outstretched hand and into the crossbar. The ball then ricocheted at a 90 degree angle, directly up into the air. It then bounced off the crossbar, back into the field of play. This was Sylestone’s chance. They had to equalise. But they couldn’t, as Arnolds blocked the Bar Stool’s point-blank shot at goal with a wondrous slide tackle. As so it was; Talkasa, somehow, remained in the lead.

In the 70th minute, the Sentients adopted the tactic that paid dividends against the likes of Tequilo - to change the formation. From an extremely defensive 5-3-2, to a 4-4-2 diamond, with the Bar Stool moving into an attacking midfielder position, while the Stove moved into the left midfield and Spiderwebs back into the defensive midfield. Meanwhile, the Sofa became the Sentients’ final substitution for the match. Last time this occurred, Sylestone racked up two goals within fifteen minutes, taking a 2-1 lead from 1-0 down. Could it happen again.

The short answer? No. The long answer? No. Much to the delight of the home crowd, the Talkasans still, somehow managed to keep the Sentients at bay. The 77th, 79th and 84th minutes all produced possible scoring opportunities for Sylestone, but alas, none could be converted.

Talkasa had their final opportunity to score in the 88th minute of the match, with Paul Khan making the most of a corner, heading the ball from Hamish Lorenzo to perfection. With any sort of human goalkeeper, Talkasa would have gone 2-0 up. However, when the goalkeeper is a Brick Wall? No thank you. The ball, like always, rebounded away as Sylestone hung on.

But it just couldn’t happen. Following this, the entire Talkasan midfield moved back to effectively become defenders. The Sentients, with only one forward, had no chance. When the referee blew the whistle three times to signify the end of the game, the home crowd leapt out of their seats. They had won. Against Sylestone.

This result meant that the Sentients dropped down into seventh position in the Group 6 table with Talkasa hot on their heels. However, a draw against Trolleborg ensured that Sylestone remained there heading into the two games against North Japan and Bollonich. Surely one win here is on the cards. Then again, when Bollonich, despite being Pot 10, are in third place, another home loss is looking increasingly likely.

Revenge Followed by Mayhem for Jungle Cats

Canopii, Two Others leave the 14 Stars on Injured Reserve

It was yet another case of dropping points on the opening matchday of World Cup Qualifying for the Vilita National Team as World Cup 88 Qualifying opened in the Squornshelan Remnant States, a 2-2 draw that set the tone for a chaotic first half of the World Cup Cycle that would see the Jungle Cats behind the eight ball for the majority of the campaign. It was only at the very last matchday of the first half that the Jungle Cats could finally manage to move atop Group 2 though in a tightly contested affair the Vilitan National Team only held an advantage of a single point over the competition.

It made the result against the Remnants of Squornshelous all the more important as the Jungle Cats looked not only to make amends for their opening matchday mishap but also to maintain their positive position in the Group 2 World Cup Qualification battle. It was a bit of a struggle on the day for Yeaddin Owls and Vilita National Team goalkeeper Mako Canopii who conceded three goals but thankfully the Vilitan attack finally decided to show up netting a competition best 5 goals on the day including a pair from Fishtii Blikala who netted both the opening goal of the match and then, later on, the match winner.

Blikala's opener came in the 29th minute and was followed up by goals from Tyoasi Klipark and Limu Katarakhna as Vilita took a 3-1 lead into the half. The Remnants would pull a goal back shortly after play resumed in the second half before Blikala converted a through ball from Clarana Refiami to score the Jungle Cats fourth goal and the ultimate Game Winner. Each side would add more more goal before the Full Time whistle for a 5-3 final score.

With the Jungle Cats having pounded five goals past the 60th ranked team in the multiverse, it seemed the stage was set for a rout against the bottom placed side in the group, the unranked nation of the 14 Stars. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the actual result. Starsian fans backed the stadium with the Jungle Cats on the road to face the unranked nation and unaware the chaos that would soon be thrown their way. It was wholesale changes for the 14 Stars who had clearly circled the match against the Top Seed Vilitan National Team as an opportunity for a statement result that would define their cycle, even if they ultimately maintained their place at the very bottom of Group 2.

The Stars Coach Blade put together a squad consisting of a mix including enforcers, goddesses and wizards and throughout the match they would call on the special services of each and every one on the pitch.

The early stages of the match started out fairly normal except for the fact that it was the home side that scored the opening goal against the bettors odds much to the delight of the local Starsian fans. The Vilitans were unaware however that the phenomenon that led up to the Stars opener was anything but natural - instead it was being summoned by the unique collection of players on the pitch for the 14 Stars. It wasn't long before Nii'arala Milaaso equalized things for the Jungle Cats and at that point many expected the Vilitans would click and march toward another victory.

If there was any confusion or ambiguity about the source of the on-pitch phenomenon hindering the Vilitans pace of play in the first half, all those doubts were erased in the second half as The 14 Stars dug deep into their bag of mystical tricks literally possessing the ball which was protected by a half dozen penguins possessing both demonic and angelic qualities.

The Jungle Cats attempted to fight back from a 2-1 deficit but as they began to apply new pressure to their opponents, the Stars rounded up into a formation they dubbed the "Grid Omega" and combined each of their forces together to form a "Blue Torndao". The Torndao was a swirling wind effect resembling the flushing of a newly cleaned toilet bowl which had enough force to knock the Vilitan players off their feet. Unfortunately, the effect was much worse for three of the Jungle Cats including Goalkeeper Mako Canopii who was knocked by the Torndao Flush into the goalpost and unable to continue the match. Amidst the confusion of the Torndao Effect, the 14 Stars had managed to put the ball in the net and take a 3-1 lead. The match was paused as a number of Vilitan players required attention from the medical staff, and there was not enough Vilitan medical staff present to address each of the players concerns.

A number of the players were treated on the pitch in order of their self-diagnosed pain levels while Linkjat Cjinder, Kudii Davasarii and Mako Canopii were determined to be in the worst shape of those injured. The rest of the match would be played out without a ball being kicked, the Referee mercifully blowing the final whislte right at the 90 minute mark with the Vilitans unlikely to have enough players remaining on the pitch to field a competitive team if the match had gotten re-started. While questions about whether a match protest could be on the cards were left for another day, one thing was for certain: if the result was to stand, it was one of the biggest upset defeats in Vilitan National Team history and perhaps most surprisingly, a rare defeat not occurring at the very start of the Qualification campaign. More importantly, however, the Jungle Cats defense was in emergency mode with starting goalkeeper Mako Canopii and veteran defender Linkjat Cjinder out indefinitely. While the Jungle Cats would maintain a narrow 1 point lead over the Squornshelan Remnant States in the Group 2 table, They would now return home to face a plucky Senhang side that already proved the ability to defeat Savojarna on Matchday 10, and would need to do so with a new look lineup at the Arcticala Electrical Stadium.

Looking at the Leading Candidates for the Goldhorns Job

For the first time in over a decade, there’s a ‘Help Wanted’ sign hanging on the front door of the Nationalstadion in Stelburg.

The national team experienced a disastrous start to their World Cup 88 Qualifying campaign, and barring a remarkable performance in the second half will likely miss out on qualification for the first time since World Cup 83. It was enough to mean that long-time manager Gavin Hughes was sacked by the STFA, and TSV Marzig manager Ole Sauer given the reigns for the remainder of qualifying.

Sauer’s spell as manager got off to a strong start last week as the Goldhorns earned 2 massive wins, 3-0 over Talamia and 6-1 over Istoreya. It’s the sort of results that the Goldhorns needed far, far earlier in this campaign, and make you wonder if the axe should have been dropped sooner. The win over Istoreya will be particularly notable as it was led mainly by the contributions of some of the younger players in the team, including Florian Krukenberg and Denis Dezelac who appear to have become full-time starters under Sauer.

The STFA will face a difficult decision as to who its next manager will be. Gavin Hughes commanded the team through 7 World Cup Qualifying campaigns, and brought stability to the national team program. Now, however, the question is how to move forward. It is understood that the STFA are firmly split into two camps. On one side, there is the desire to bring in a manager to shore things up and go for wins immediately. Thorsten Kramer is 33 years old - the greatest player our nation has ever produced - and the generation of players around him are in the middle of their prime right now, such as Karl-Heinz Jager, Lukas Tauscher, Darijen Vesele and others. There won’t be too many chances, and the team cannot afford another poor campaign in Cycle 89. A new manager would also be expected to compete immediately in the Cup of Harmony and the AOCAF tournament.

On the other hand, however, a significant faction views this tournament as the ‘end point’ of that first generation of players - Ivo Romanov and Raphael Klopfer have retired from international duty, leaving Kramer as the only player who appeared in the first-ever match against The Cereal Isles all those years ago. The next generation afterwards built on the success and reached the World Cup, but could never get further - now, it is time to hand the squad over to this younger generation, the Krukenbergs and Dezelacs of the world, and build forward. Competition would still be expected, of course, but there would also be more leeway to build a program.

So, let’s have a look at some of the possible choices the STFA might just be considering to take over the national team program.

Ole Sauer (currently of TSV Marzig)

You knew his name would come up. It would be a great story, certainly - the goalkeeper who played in the Goldhorns’ first international match, retired soon after and has built his reputation up as a manager taking over the national team. And hey, he currently has the highest win percentage in Goldhorns history at 100%. If that lasts throughout the remainder of Qualifiers, the STFA simply have to consider it.

The problem is, however, Sauer is very committed to his club, TSV Marzig, who he helped guide to a President’s Cup trophy last season. Sauer took over at Marzig three seasons ago when the club was in relegation danger, and has taken them up to being a team competing in the top half of the table. The Cup win, especially in a final victory over eternal rivals FK Pomorie, will make him a legend at Marzig forever. There have been rumours of Sauer joining the club he spent most of his career with as manager, FC St. Jakob, but the keeper who played in 6 international fixtures has stayed silent.

Sauer has used a 4-4-2 for most of his tenure at Marzig, building on a formidable striking duo of Horst Hackl and Takashi Matsumoto. Seeing a 4-4-2 consistently at the national team level would be intriguing given the forward options available in the national pool. But wing play has been very important in the team as well - Quebecois international Frank Lundrigan one of the team’s most valuable players. Sauer has integrated several youth players into the squad, and has built a formidable attacking-based system appreciated by the fans.

It sounds perfect, right? But when linked to this national job in the past, Sauer has downplayed his credentials, saying “I would love to, one day, but I don’t feel I’m ready yet.” That quote was from before the President’s Cup Final - perhaps the win has changed his mind. He did, after all, accept the interim job. But being an interim manager is much different than full-time, and with Sauer having just extended his contract with Marzig for another 3 seasons, would he be willing to balance club and national duties?

You get the impression that Ole Sauer is destined to manager the national team full-time one day - and his performance over the next few weeks may just answer the question as to when.

Robert Feicke (currently of SV Preisfeld

Before the ‘Wunder von TJUN-ia,’ the 8-7 playoff win that sent the Goldhorns to World Cup 87 after all seemed lost, it seemed as if Gavin Hughes’ reign would end there. The word was that Robert Feicke had been contacted by the STFA to take over as full-time manager from that point. Then, Thorsten Kramer was Thorsten Kramer and not a word was said.

But now that the job is open again, Feicke will be expecting a call. After all, he was clearly the preferred choice last time, right? Feicke will feel perhaps a bit slighted he was not offered the interim role, however may also see it as a sign he is on the shortlist to become permanent manager. He may, then, be the only man in the country cheering for the Goldhorns to fail to turn it around in the second half, if only to boost his own chances of getting the job.

At Preisfeld, Feicke has taken the Bees from the second tier all the way up to being a solidly midtable club in the Republikaliga. Similarly to Sauer, he’s done it with a positive-thinking approach and a 4-2-3-1 formation that relies on the strength of its midfield - a role that might be perfectly suited for a team with Thorsten Kramer wearing its shirt. Feicke’s Preisfeld have managed some big, upsetting results in the past, too, with wins over Olympia Borograd and FC Teussen Stelburg - massive scalp for the Bees to claim, and something that fits in with the history of the Goldhorns as well. We’ve always seemed to do our best when no-one expects it.

Feicke will have a difficult choice to make, however. Kasper Knauer, the FC Teussen Stelburg manager, isn’t getting any younger. And with the Black and Gold entering a bit of a rebuild themselves, Knauer may feel it is time to ride off into the sunset as the most successful domestic manager in Siovanija & Teusland’s history. Feicke would certainly be the heir apparent at the Franz-Gorz-Stadion, and the near-certainty of success with Teussen would be hard to pass over, even for a national team job. Both are once in a lifetime opportunities, and both seem to be available for Feicke.

Robert Feicke will certainly be following the second half of World Cup 88 Qualification very closely as he determines his future.

Apostol Manevski (currently of Energija Chernovets)

“I hope to be back someday.” With those words, Apostol Manevski departed the Nationalstadion at the end of World Cup 80 Qualifiers and left his post as manager of the national team. The Chernovets manager had been tipped by the STFA as an experienced hand to guide the national team through its first tournament, before handing the reigns off to assistant Alan Dzekov. Manevski has always spoke fondly of his time with the national team set-up, and an experienced manager with trophy-winning pedigree could be exactly what the Goldhorns need.

Manevski has led his Chernovets squad to 2 Republikaliga titles, as well as an AOCL title - and his side are going to be playing in a second straight AOCL final in a few weeks’ time. He has had great success, and would bring an incredible level of experience back to the national team. His Chernovets have morphed into a 4-2-3-1 over the last few years, with strength coming from the back and his wingers - and look how forward Jezdemir Ocokoljic has thrived in the system so far, being a massive part of that AOCL run.

Manevski would clearly be the #1 choice of the faction that believes a win-now moment is needed with this current generation of players, a serial winner throughout his career. But there would be, of course, some issues. Manevski is 61 and not getting any younger - he spoke of the stress of managing both Chernovets and the national team in the past, and that was over a decade ago. Perhaps he would not want that stress again, which leaves him abandoning a project he has built over the years at Chernovets and is just now seeing the fruits of, with the club boasting arguably the best squad in the country at the moment. So while his desire to return to the national team may be strong, the timing might just not be right.

Apostol Manevski would be a clear option for the role, but it may be a long shot to convince him to take it.

Looking Abroad

When the STFA appointed Gavin Hughes many years ago, it was specifically cited that they wanted an ‘outside perspective’ on the team. Domestic managers, particularly those from a particular club or in our case national background, could over or under rate players based on those biases. A foreign manager would look objectively at the squad. That is exactly what the Goldhorns got in Hughes, who quickly found his best grouping and turned them into a force - with a 29-match unbeaten run in the middle of his reign.

Now, however, the STFA are supposedly looking internally for a new manager - but that doesn’t mean foreigners have been ruled out completely. There have been rumours of interest in a manager from Eura, and Mytanija national team manager Lev Repin has been one linked with the job. Repin has raised eyebrows around the world with his performances so far at the helm of his country, and is known for an exceptional tactical mind. He could be a gem of a signing for the national team, with truly world-class potential.

With the STFA not expected to announce a new manager until at earliest the end of Qualifiers, it is possible they scout the market during the upcoming international transfer window as well, when several managers will be expected to become available. For now, however, the focus is on getting through World Cup 88 - and perhaps pulling off a miracle.

We’ll continue to have the latest updates on the managerial search, as well as World Cup 88 Qualifiers.

Regardless of the political situation, there was still matches to be contested by the Marauders as they looked to keep up appearances and form in a hotly contested Group 4 of the Qualifiers. The first half had been good but it had had its moments of pause, notably Mytanija coming to the Empire and escaping with a share of the points against the Marauders, an event that not many would have predicted before the group stage had began. While those from the Mytanar region of Rushmore have historically been quite good at the sport, the current iteration of a nation from that region and its respective footballers did not look to be on the same standard yet that previous teams from that area had provided, although the potential had been seen with very good showings in the Di Bradini Cup over the last decade. It may be a case of the talent being there but the lack of consistency that is holding the players from that region back from going to the next level in the international arena, yet the point gained at the Hatire Memorial had definitely been a big occasion, perhaps their best from the first half of the campaign.

Before the match with new competitors Atheara, Raynor City United announced the signings of Thor Møller and Karoline Wellenbrink, the two national team players who had been displaced because of the ongoing political tension within Atlantian Oceania and the breakaway nations of the newly dubbed Anaia region. It is a case of the rich getting richer in the Premiership, though with the removal of Anaia born players from Premiership rosters, it did mean that the Rockers had needs in those respective positions and were able to strengthen with Vanorian talent. More Vanorian talent on Vanorian shores will definitely make the Premiership a stronger league from top to bottom, even if it United who only benefit at this exact moment. There are rumors that other top clubs are pursuing other displaced players due to the ongoing political strife, though any signings or concrete evidence of these pursuits has failed to come up, though that it is usually the nature of transfers until the signature is on that new contract.

Speaking of Atheara, despite being new to international waters, both the game at the Hatire Memorial as well as the game at their place were very close affairs, even if the Marauders were the dominant team in the tie. They only have a single win to their name in the qualifiers despite having put in very good accounts of themselves in most of their matches despite being new to the international game. Their negative ten goal difference also shows that they are not being completely rolled over despite only the four points from the eleven games that they have played in. It really is a weird to see someone who is performing so well on the field but has very little success when it comes to actually collecting some points. It will be interesting to see if their fortunes are able to be turned around and more accurately reflect the performances that they have been putting on the field with points in the table, though the Marauders will be quite pleased to have gathered the full six points from the two encounters and on the right side of their opponents' poor luck.

Traveling to Rushmore from Atheara, the Marauders got ready for their second meeting with Mytanija, looking to at least pull a draw from the result, though a win would be preferred to maintain a three point gap between themselves and Abanhfleft, who were also in Rushmore to take on Eastfield Lodge. The Marauders are looking to make good on their rank as second in the world and win the group with the automatic qualification that comes with it. The Mytanar home advantage looked to bring them the better of the game, with Jezdimir Ocokoljic finishing off a well worked move by the home side in the seventeenth minute, before the advantage was doubled just shy of the half hour mark by a long range effort from Tahir Fejzuli that deflected awkwardly off Winter causing Miljeteig to be caught out of position, giving the hosts the two goal advantage, which they would keep to the halftime whistle. A glimmer of hope came almost immediately after the start of the second half, with Hawk deftly curling in a freekick from outside the box, before Ludwig brought the tie level in the sixty-third minute, heading in a cross from Pánfilo Veliz. As it seemed certain that the two sides were going to have a repeat of the scoreline from the Empire, Elias Hammer snuck behind the backline and latched onto a through ball from Hawk and then chipped Pedja Kasun and the Marauders had their first lead in the eighty-seventh minute of the match. A goal that would become the winner and the full three point to keep their distance from the Fleftic opponents.

The Marauders now return back to the Eternal Empire to host Geektopia in the next international weekend, before they will travel to Rushmore once more to vie with Electrum. The side was able to take four points from these two fixtures in the first half of the campaign, the second and third seeds in this very difficult and hotly contested group. Both teams will need victories from the fixture in order to prevent the Marauders from getting too far ahead of them to realistically be able to catch them, though the Marauders need to keep winning into order not to surrender the group lead to Abanhfleft, who continue to maintain just a three point gap behind the side. The Marauders surprisingly stingy defense continues to surprise, with nearly half of their goals conceded coming against Mytanija, a side noted for having quite capable attackers. It may be the sudden rise in the defensive cohesiveness that could be the key not only to keeping ahold of the group lead but the highly coveted and elusive sixth World Cup title, a title that has more than just bragging rights to it now in the race between themselves, Vilita, and Starblaydia to be the first to lay claim to a sixth title.

Busogans drop two in a row as manager encourages 'focus' on their next match

Alexander Bumba in his post-game press conference after the team's 3-1 away loss to Pasarga

LAKISKA, SOUTH ISLAND- It would have been truly crazy for the Islanders to really expect to keep just plowing through this group like we did in the first half of Qualifying. Unless you are ranked in the top 10, that simply doesn't happen. The high stakes of World Cup Qualifying, and the marathon nature of it, means that you have to go through the ups and downs like everybody else. It's all about taking full advantage of your highs, and more importantly, how you respond to moments of adversity. This isn't a short group stage. With 18 games, it's functionally a season, and mental toughness of dealing with those ups and downs determines who can qualify, and who cannot.

And now, with back to back losses against Qualifying contenders St. Trinians and Pasarga, that moment of adversity has arrived. Alexander Bumba spoke about it following their away loss in Rushmore. "Look. Busoga was never going to do anything insane like go undefeated throughout the entirety of a World Cup Qualifying campaign. We are not resting on our laurels on what we've accomplished throughout the first half of Qualifying, but this group is too tight for that. Look at the table- 5th place Pasarga is only three points behind us, who remain in pole position. This group is going to be a photo finish between 4 or 5 teams for these two qualifying spots, and I expect intense battles the rest of the way."

"There are things we did not like from our last two games. Our midfield, in particular, struggled in our rematches against Pasarga and St. Trinians. We have to keep mixing it up, and coming out of the gate with energy if we want to beat these teams. This is an opportunity for us to respond to that adversity. Already, the pundits are going to begin to write us off. But these next two games, against the Blouman Empire and the Gatchingerrak Union, I feel are key to our campaign. How does this team respond? Do we fold at the first sign of trouble, falling apart after a pair of losses? Or can we maintain our confidence, re-direct our focus, and take the game to a pair of group rivals? I know this team well, and firmly believe that we can do the latter. But that's going to have to be proven on the pitch, and I can tell you, our players are hungry to prove it."

Among the smattering of players who were interviewed, they talked about the importance of the Blouman Empire match, who was their next opponent. "Look- it's the two teams in the top 2 places in our qualifying group at Lakiska City Field." Artem Kohut, the team's key striker who has struggled over the past two games. "It's a huge matchup. We've beaten them once before, so they will be seeking out revenge. But in front of our home fans, in our own capitol city, we're going to come out aggressive. We want to get back to our winning ways, and if we do against them, we show the world that we were not a first half of Qualifying flash in the pan. It shows we're gonna be a legitimate contender to make the top two all the way until the end."

Lakiska City Field, of course, is already sold out in anticipation of the huge matchup. And below, of course, we'll run the betting guide for Matchdays 12 & 13 of World Cup Qualifying.

OOC: The below post does not reflect my OOC views about the establishment of the Anaia Region, and only reflects Banija's IC views regarding these developments.

OOC2: Cross-Posted from the Stelburg Conference

Katikkiro= Prime Minister

Kabaka Mwanga at the Stelburg Conference

The Kabaka had spent the past week gathering his thoughts and formulating his position before arriving in Stelburg. It was a truly momentous conference- a gathering of basically the most important politicians in each AO state, including the Rushmori politicians from Eura. After having listened to a few dignitaries speak, the Kabaka raised his hand. It was clear that he was going to speak.

As he rose, he looked gathered a few of his notes and then started speaking himself.

"My friends, the fact that we are all here today, even if we are meeting in less than ideal circumstances if I say so myself, is momentous in and of itself. It is rare that meetings of this high a level take place, and there is no better place to do it than Stelburg. I give my thanks to Chancellor Meier, whom I consider a dear friend, for organizing this meeting and bringing us all here to this pristine castle.

First, to address the proposals from Chancellor Meier. Specifically, the idea of a AO Assembly of Nations, or I'll call it an AO Assembly as a working title for short. As described, this Kingdom would be enthusiastic members, and for this to consist of all of our remaining members would be highly beneficial for everybody involved. Some many see this as closing ranks- but rather, I see it as increasing cooperation between willing states and partners. Say what you want about the Foxchester participants, but they did not fear being bold to make change. Atlantian Oceania has to be willing to respond in kind. An AO Assembly can ensure that we continue to garner trust between the remaining nations of AO, and strengthen our bonds as we brave towards a new world."

The Kabaka took a pause. He glanced over at the Eura/EOT delegation, knowing that he had to pick his words carefully. Banija was going to lobby heavily for the EOT to stay in AO, and he did not want to alienate them. At the same time, defense was absolutely a topic that needed to be addressed. "Regional defense cooperation is something that is considered normal. We see it in other regions- the brand new Esportivan Union coming, the Common Rushmori Community, and now, NEATO. This doesn't mean that NEATO isn't unprecedented or not a cause for concern- many of their nations left common defensive organizations with many of our nations, like AORDO, to form their own."

"Considering how many of their nations were integral members of AORDO, we feel that it would be best to form a new regional defense organization, that would replace AORDO. A Stelburg Pact, or whatever we would like to call it. A common defense organization in response to this Anaia secession would be imminently reasonable. It would not cause tensions to rise more than they already have. It helps us provide for the common defense. Remember, NEATO, while immediately on our minds, is not the only threat out there. What if in the future, another one of our nations gets threatened by a nation we've never heard of? Nations and empires rise and fall every single day. AORDO, at this point, with so many of its nations gone, is as good as dead letter. Many of our nations have not bothered with bilateral defense agreements with AO nations because we have the multilateral ones through AORDO. But what happens with AORDO essentially being gone?"

"We have border nations that we should come together and defend. What we know today is true- the Anaia nations cannot be called upon to defend AO from outside threats. That is why, when we are gathered here with so many dignitaries, I see it important that we leave this place with a new regional defense organization."

"We also must talk about changes to trade, commerce, and immigration. Many of our nations, including Banija, have trade, travel, and migration policies that rely heavy on the status as AO nations, that are now automatically expired. Somebody who, 10 days ago, was considered an AO citizen with their Krytenian citizenship, is now no longer considered an AO citizen under our law. And, like I presume many of you, our law was not built to deal with a mass secession like this on such short notice- or aka, no notice at all. It has thrown many parts of law on those three issues in Banija into chaos."

"And I mean literal chaos- a steel shipment that set sail from Krytenia the day before the Foxchester Declaration, was in the open water when the Declaration was signed and made effective immediately, suddenly had incorrect customs paperwork. Suddenly had to pay double in tariff rates, and had two days to come up with the money whenever they reached port in Banija. That was part of the irresponsibility of the secrecy of the move- all these businesses thrown into chaos, the trade authorities of each nation scrambling to keep up."

"But the position that we announced publicly will stand. Only Chromatika will be allowed to trade with Banija under AO favored nation status, while Quebecois trade is accounted for under other treaties. All other Anaia nations shall essentially lose AO favored nation status. It is not a sanction per say- but a reflection of reality. They left willing partnership with Banija by leaving the region, therefore, they have chosen to walk away from the privileges that come with being a member of Atlantian Oceania. But we do not intend to launch any economic sanctions on Anaia nations at this time. We think it is unwise, and will launch a trade war tit for tat that hurts everybody. Banija has worked hard for the growth we have achieved in my father's reign and my own. When I was born, Banija was a low income country. We have gotten through middle income, and we have essentially just reached true first world economic status. That economic success we have had cannot be threatened. Our suggestion, instead of sanctions, are tighter economic bonds between the remainder of AO. Maybe a full-fledged free trade agreement is a step too far, but trade preferences. Trust in trade agreements. Allowing AO students the ability to cross borders to study. That will bring benefits to us all."

"In terms of immigration. Let us be clear- Banija will not deport any Anaia citizens already living within our borders. We do not want to add to the chaos by blaming citizens abroad for the actions of their governments back home. That will only cause mistrust for our governments, which is not the goal here. We also will not, at this time, encourage Banijan citizens living abroad in Anaia to return home unless the situation comes clear that Banijans are in danger abroad. With that said, if we are going to discuss some sort of joint refugee program for Anaia citizens who wish to remain Atlantian Oceanian, Banija will participate in a program hosting those sorts of political refugees."

"And lastly, in terms of the border, we agree with the position set out by Prime Minister Schoenlein. But we should not leave our border nations, or enclave nations, by themselves. Nations like Baker Park, who defend our borders, and like Sarzonia, who are suddenly alone in hostile territory, will have our support, and hopefully the support of everybody else here."

Confident that he had addressed everything he had needed to discuss, the Kabaka sat down.
Former champion of quite a few things. Former President of even more things.

The Condors sank yet lower after a brace of dispiriting performances that further confirmed the gulf between experienced international teams and their own. Their visit to Mancomunidad de la Parque Panadero ended in a stale defeat. Alan Wiseman scored his second goal in as many games against the Condors as once more foreign central defenders’ towering height advantage overcame the hard work of Edelberto and Jairo, and although Primitivo pulled the Condors level, Desmond Garvey fire home a second. The Condors were unable to fight their way back in the second half, although there was time for a brief cameo from bright talent Julia Varela.

The first home game since the end of the curfew left little for Santa Margaritans to spend the night celebrating. Listadeéxitosmusicalesstáni midfielder Adult Royce declared himself numb, so numb, numb to all the pain you bring to Cristo Díaz, who clattered him in the box five minutes in, and duly converted the penalty. Osito, with a characteristic show of strength, bulldozed his way to an equalizer, but before the half Olisa Rodgers, proving less than sour, took 1 step forward, 3 steps back to feint around the defense and whack in a goal just before the half. Deja vu set in. The defeat was duly confirmed by Air Latte who ran 7 rings around the Verdean defense to leave the home crowd with no tears left to cry.

Squad update: Justin is back out for a game having reaggravated his knee injury while Verónica Ximena has been called up for the first time as a starter after continued failures from the second strikers to prove themselves behind Osito.
