The years is 2022. The world faces multiple crises; challenges to the liberal world order, rise of populism, migration, climate change, automation. Will your nation navigate through those crises and find its way to prosperity or shall it become a cautionary tale of failure and collapse?
IC: Link
2022, as the name suggests, is set in the year 2022. Players join as a nation-state and guide it towards prosperity (or decline). Point of Divergence (PoD) is 1991. For those new to RPs, PoD is the date from which things can change in the history of your nation. Everything before that point remains unchanged. But from 1991 onwards, you can change the history of your country (if you want to).
There are, however, a few exceptions. Some events that did happen and will not change:
- Breakup of the USSR
- 9/11 and the War on Terror
- European Union and the Eurozone
- Covid did not take place in this TL
As is the case with most geopolitical RPs in these forums, rules are relatively simple.
- Each RL month will be four months in-game.
- Be realistic in your sign-ups. No, France will not reconquer Algeria and no Germany will not be a monarchy with a Kaiser. While there is leeway to change governmental institutions, parties in power and aspects of the economy, you will not be able to fundamentally transform your nation. Examples: A France with a neoliberal economy or with President Le Pen can be accepted, if adequately explained. A France with a Bonaparte as Emperor will not be accepted. A United States in which the Electoral College has been reformed or abolished can be accepted, but a United States that is not a republic or a federation will not be accepted. Use common-sense and you should be OK.
- This RP gives a lot of leeway to players to pursue domestic and foreign agendas of their liking. However, they must be within reason. Examples: An intervention by UK in Syria against Assad will be accepted, an intervention by Ireland in Syria will not be accepted. Germany militarizing to bolster European defense against Russia can be accepted, Germany being aggressive or threatening war against fellow EU states will not be accepted. Having Bernie Sanders as President of the United States and implementing soft left economic agenda will be accepted, having Comrade X become President of the United States and nationalizing everything will not be accepted. Again, use common-sense. You have the freedom to change the domestic and foreign policy of your country, but within reason and realism.
- This is not an RP in which you can just invade nations left and right because you simply want more land. You need proper justification (casus belli), and even then expect some (negative) reactions. Examples: Turkey invading Syria to attack Kurds or support anti-Assad rebels will be accepted, Turkey invading Bulgaria because 'Ottoman Empire' will not be accepted. United States intervening in Myanmar to bring democracy will be accepted, United States invading Mexico to annex it will not be accepted. France intervening in a former colony to topple an Islamist or dictatorial government will be accepted, France invading Algeria to annex it will not be accepted. As OP I reserve the right to block wars if they are ridiculous.
- No powergaming. This means that your nation will not be perfect. It will have problems and flaws. This will actually make your roleplaying experience more fun since you will have those problems to tackle.
- I expect posts to be at least two paragraphs long (with the exception of diplomatic statements - such as condemnations of an action, replying to a diplomatic offer, etch). But generally speaking, with those exceptions aside, I expect you to put at least some effort. Last but not least, I prefer quality over quantity. I much prefer if you make one big, good post once a week than if you post a paragraph long post of bad quality every day.
- Be polite, do not be rude and keep disputes outside the IC. Even in the OOC thread, you will have to be polite when discussing disputes. As OP, I reserve the right to tell you to stop an argument if it gets heated; if you want to continue, you can do so through telegrams. I expect the threads to be friendly to players.
Fill up the application to join. You can post in the IC only if you have been accepted. Reservation last a week. You can renew them only once (except if it is a great power like Russia or the United States or China, in which case you cannot unless you can have the app ready in like a day). If you do not renew your reservation or fail again to app, then your nation will be free once again to be taken by another player.
For military numbers consult Global Firepower. That does not mean your numbers in the application need to match 100% with the numbers on Global Firepower. Maybe your nation invested more on the military (which you should explain in your history); however it should be close to those numbers.
