Style: -4

Background:

The Picksall Islands are a frigid archipelago to the north of the Zwangzugian mainland, known (if at all) for their vowel-heavy language and religious diversity. Residents are considered full citizens and politically the equal of their mainland counterparts; they should not be considered an independent country so much as an opportunistic "sub-national entity" that found a loophole allowing them to participate.

Football in Zwangzug is a franchise-system rather than a promotion or relegation pyramid, so the islands only have amateur systems. Two of these players, Vūnēm Ibwō and Wōkēnd Kufind, play in the university system on the mainland, for Shanbock University and College of Twake respectively, and are the most skilled footballers by some distance.

Manager: Kim Higden is to date the only Picksall Islander to represent Zwangzug at full national level, as a goalkeeper in Eagles Cup 7 and the World Cup 80 cycle. She played for barnstormers Rovers United, who would occasionally provide the islands with top-level football, at club level. Despite being the obvious choice as manager, she is much better at the off-field logistics of developing infrastructure than anything involving charisma or loud encouragment.

The Picksall Islands team is very defensive-minded, even by the standards of their mainland counterparts; it's not exactly clear whether the fact that the roster is female-skewing is cause or effect here, but popular wisdom believes these to be correlated. Considering their inexperience, however, the positions may be more "guidelines" anyway.

They are also very much unlike their mainland counterparts in embracing Cabañas effect wholeheartedly. Higden has attempted to impose some semblance of tradition by asking the starting XI to wear numbers 1-11 in some order, but beyond that, they are somewhat more open-minded than the current national team about uniform numbers as well.

Starting XI:
GK: 1. Ēwiko Hūmgin (f)
LB: 7. Dūhūgā Yaēmā (f)
LB: 5. Pōfbag Nokhōē (m)

Trigramme: GAB

Garbelian National Football/Soccer Team:

Manager:
Sigtryggur Brynjólfursson was formerly the manager of the Graintfjall national team. Under his calm management, they achieved a Baptism of Fire title, World Cup qualifying playoffs, Cup of Harmony Ro32, and two Copa Rushmori Ro16s, however he has fallen out with Garbelia's star striker Arthur Goodotter, as he prefers strength and fitness over pace and skill. He sets the team up as 4-4-2, with two fullbacks and attacking wingers.

The Team:

Ottery Otterface - 27 - GK - 6ft 7in - Disliked by the manager - Close to being dropped
Having won the Garbelian title 4 times, with Norvis FC, Otterface is an excellent keeper. He is best at saving long shots and one-on-ones, but he is not good at defending crosses and scrambles. He is awful at goal kicks, so he always goes short to a defender, who can then hit a long pass up the pitch.

Marge Findus - 22 - DL - 6ft 2in - Favoured by the manager
Marge Findus is considered by many to be the roughest player on the Garbelia team. Despite playing on the wing, she relies on physicality, however she is often beaten by pace. On the other hand, even when outpaced, she is an expert at stopping the ball reaching a striker's head, no matter what the cost.

James Lutrison - 21 - DC - 6ft 1in - Favoured by the manager
James Lutrison, despite having never won a title, is regarded as the best defender in Garbelia, and plays well with Ottery Otterface, specialising in headers, both attacking and defending set pieces, and from open play. He is still young, however, and has a tendency to foul the striker if he is beaten.

Otto Johnson - 25 - DC - 5ft 4in - Manager is neutral
Otto Johnson is one of the original players who played all throughout Garvida Rangers' rise. He is terrible at heading the ball, but incredible at last-ditch tackles, and famous for his 50 yard passes, right to where the striker wants it.

Otter McCat - 26 - DR - 6ft 4in - Manager is neutral
The last member of Garbelia's defence, Otter McCat is a good all-round defender, who can effectively tackle and head the ball and also has pace. He is good at laying the ball off to the winger in front, but can't cross well.

Lefiné Avianuin - 30 - ML/MC - 5ft 4in - Disliked by the manager - Close to being dropped
Lefiné Avianuin (an immigrant from the nearby Avian Empire) is a midfielder who usually plays on the wing. He is not very quick, but he is strong, and can outskill other players, before delivering an excellent cross.

Otto Otter - 17 - MC - 5ft 1in - Manager likes player, but not player's style - Manager wants to drop, but fears consequences
Otto Otter is widely thought to be the best player in Garbelia. At only 17, he is famous for his free-kicks, which seem to be drawn towards top corner, and having scored a corner against the Garbelian champions of the time, Norvis FC. He is very quick, has an excellent tackle and can score goals for fun. His only weakness is that he is quite selfish and will often choose to make a dribble himself rather than passing to an open teammate.

Lonivan Blisset - 19 - MC - 5ft 8in - Favoured by the manager
Lutrini is almost the opposite of Otto Otter. A slow, young player, he rarely scores or provides an assist, but is excellent at protecting the back line, and can send short passes out to any nearby player.

Bob McOtterson - 27 - MR - 6ft 2in - Manager is neutral
Bob McOtterson is a pacey winger with an excellent long shot, but he is rubbish at set-pieces and crossing. He once scored 32 goals in a season, but has never made more than 10 assists.

Steve Ottoman - 29 - CF - 6ft 7in - Manager's favourite player
Steve Ottoman is a talisman for Garvenord Rovers and has provided over half their goals since he joined them. He is not very good at long shots, but has an incredible header and almost never misses a cross, if it reaches him.

Arthur Goodotter - 19 - CF - 5ft 3in - Manager likes player, but not player's style - Manager wants to drop, but fears consequences
Arthur Goodotter is a young striker who has a knack for being in the right place, and smashing penalties or mid-range shots home. He is still learning, so hardly even attempts headers. For a finisher, he is very good at regaining the ball off the back line of defenders.

Players who regularly start:
Ottery Ottoerson - 23 - MC (forward thinking) - 6ft 3in - Liked by the manager
Ottery Ottoerson is a slight attacker, who can round any defender and has an excellent finish. He is very quick, but has never scored a header. He won the league twice, finishing as the league's top scorer on both occasions.

Penalties: Goodotter, if not available, Scratchington, Ottoman then Ottoerson.
Free Kicks: Otter, Avianuin, Scratchington
Corners: Otter, Findus, Avianuin, J. Watanabe

Stadium:

The People's Stadium is where Garbelia plays all its games. Used by amateur and professional teams alike, it is open to all on a 'first come, first served' basis. While this technically means it would never be available, smaller amateur teams usually give way to professionals and the national team. It has stands in every corner, giving a capacity of over 20000 spectators, and it has world-class facilities that the government pays for with small portion of taxes. Despite its imposing appearance, the pitch itself is little more than a marsh. With teams constantly playing on it, the groundstaff rarely have time to properly maintain it and can just do enough to keep the markings visible. As a result, the ball does not really bounce, but skids and occasionally comes up off a bump, giving Garbeli used to playing on its surface a distinct advantage. It is located at the heart of Garvida.

Lorrana Gets Ready for IAC12

Postby Lorrana » Wed Mar 24, 2021 10:26 am

LRN-UPS

Tomorrow, Lorrana opens Group H of the 12th Independent Associations Championship with a match against the United Pink States at Dynamo Stadium Makarov in northeast Muralos.

The United Pink States plays a pretty balanced 4-4-2 while Lorrana plays a more attacking-oriented 4-1-2-1-2. Lorrana likes to play a fast build-up with attacking mid Kiyon central in leading the attack, who will likely have some trouble getting past veteran UPS midfielder Donnie Price. This will make Lorrana's wingers much more crucial and push much of the gameplay to the flanks.

We'll be broadcasting the match live here on Newsbit Sports
NS Stats are sometimes right, but sometimes wrong. TG me if you have questions, but the most important thing to know is that Lorrana is capitalist, even though the stats show otherwise
News Headlines: Year of civil unrest in Lorrana is officially over; Worldvision Song Contest takes place in Valletta

RTM-1 Studio, Urbego, Muralos
March 20, 2021
The Muralosian national soccer team has gathered to record a commercial for the upcoming Independent Associations Championship, hosted in Muralos and Almuzahara. It is a long one, as commercials go, about 2 minutes in length. Members of the Hawks– as the Muralosian national soccer team is known– played an outsized role in drafting the script. The commercial was aired on RTM-1, Muralos' leading sports television channel.

The commercial begins with a final whistle. Commotion is in the crowd at Zemlinsky National Stadium. The Muralosian national soccer team has just lost to Cassadaigua 5-0 in a World Cup qualifying match. Young midfielder Georgo Zhong can be seen looking toward the referee, exhausted, hands on his knees.

"Defeat," Valora Lin begins to read. "It is something that we Hawks know the taste of better than ever." (Another broadcast is shown from Muralos' World Cup qualifying run. "With this result, the Hawks are now eliminated from playoff contention," RTM-1 commentator Gao Hui intones after the Hawks draw 2-2 to Havynwilde.)

"We thought that we would lay low for a bit– take our mind off the game, even," Georgo Zhong continues. (Some highlights are played from Georgo Zhong and fellow midfielder Lerta Donaldson's run in the International Playground Wallball Championship, just recently held in Muralos. "Zhong hits an impressive backcourt shot. Hebitaka's Axerman shuffles back to return, and Zhong with the backcourt again...")

"No." Silence; cut to black as Galina Shchedrina starts to speak, with a quiet force.

"In the end, we couldn't stay that way. Because that's not what we're about."

Cue the crowd murmur from the Baptism of Fire round of 32 match between Muralos and Ranoria. The game itself is shown. Shchedrina winds up to take her free kick in 78th minute. It glides from the right flank of the pitch to the top left corner of the net. The Muralosian crowd explodes in cheers.

"At the end of the day, we are about good soccer," Lerta Donaldson chimes in. Cue footage of his clean assists to Adamo Brava in the Baptism of Fire and his cross to Galina Shchedrina in the first World Cup qualifier against Acronia, which paved the way for a goal by Valora Lin.

"We are about putting our best out there," says Vilhelmo Lumin, as one of his spectacular goals against TJUN-ia is shown.

"And to ignite hearts and have fun while doing it," Valora Lin adds, with gratitude in her voice. Lin is shown celebrating after her goal against Quemorr Isles – her first goal scored as part of the new co-ed Muralosian national team, and the new team's first ever goal.

The Hawks can be seen celebrating now in various games. Rui celebrating in Muralos' World Cup qualifying win against Acronia; Ryo Takeda high-fiving people in the stands after the International Football Cup semifinal in Squidroidia; Lerta Donaldson, Jiyong Park, Yonghua Liang, and Valora Lin rejoicing after Muralos' World Cup qualifying win against Havynwilde.)

"We've just had to keep doing the things that put us here in the first place," Coach Pavel Li states.

There is now a montage of the the Muralosian national team's trainings, presented in a grid as one might see in a television station's control room. All of this footage was candid, taken by RTM-1 staff as the Hawks trained uninterrupted.

"Keep training; keep getting out there," Koralo Petrov affirms. "It's what we've done..."

"...and it's what we'll keep doing." Fellow defender Aleksandro Kim finishes the sentence, mirroring his chemistry with Petrov on the field.

"So, here in Muralos," Adamo Brava begins, as a highlight of his is shown.
"from Komcatt Arena," says Nikolaj Granda.
"Zemlinsky National Stadium," says Ryo Takeda.
"and Dynamo Stadium Nord-Urbo..." says Rodion Markov.
"...I'll give my all," says Tanya Lubimova.

"I'll give my all," says Valora Lin in front of the camera.

"We'll give our all!" the whole squad shouts, standing on the pitch of Komcatt Arena.

The commercial cuts to this screen:

The Manager

George Murphy is the Manager of Murphtannia, he is also the manager of Domestic Giants Villa.

Murphy's History

Murphy has been manager of Villa for 2 seasons. In that time he has won the Murphtannian Premier League x2, 1 Murphtannian FA cup, 2 Murphtannian League Cups and 1 super cup.

tactics

Murphy prides himself on his fast paced attacking style of football, he uses a 4-4-2 diamond narrow with a very attacking sense (+3).

2 wings backs are employed to bomb up and down the field to provide width in the attack and will seek to cross the ball into the box.

A Defensive Midfielder sits in front of 2 centre backs, with 1 centre back covering for the other.

In-front of the DM is a box to box midfielder and a deep-lying play maker. While the BTB gets the ball and carries it up field the DLPM will get the ball and seek to pass it to a wing back bombing on or the BTB.

Finally there is a front 3 of 1 Attacking Midfielder and 2 strikers. The CAM will get the ball and seek to pass a through ball to the Advanced forward making runs behind the defence or to the Target Man who will hold up the ball, trying to make space for a pass or shot. If the CAM can't find a pass he will use his advanced footwork to move into space and pick out a pass.

The defence will normally try and pass out of the back and employ tiki taka, keeping possession and exploting passes to make space and move forward.

The Team

The Starting 11

Goalkeeper - Adam Ball- 26- 6ft5- Plays for The Wolves Club although is looking for a move abroad and is by far their key man. Recently won the Golden Glove award in the Murphtannian Premier League for keeping 20 clean sheets. Prefers to catch the ball rather than punch and tends to come off his line. Good shot stopping and reflexes, struggles when assembling his wall. World Class keeper.

Left-Wing back- James Cartlidge -24 -5ft7 - Urbizania Wanderers wing back, renowned for his pace and stamina he can easily pick up the ball and run to the other end of the field, better at attacking than defending. In his first season he got 15 assists as Villa won the title, he helped Villa win a second title and League cup befopre earning a move to ASG club Urbizania Wanderers . Excellent crosser of the ball, has work to do on slide tackles.

Ball playing Centre back - cover - Shaun Banks - 27 - 6ft - This Liverpool Town CB singed from Villa and he kept 13 clean sheets and was able to get across the back line to make that vital tackle. Good heading and Jumping ability make him ideal for covering his CB partner, excellent tackling and speed. Can also play LB or RB.

Ball Playing Centre back - Callum Pallet- 6ft 5- 21 - Widely regarded as a brick wall, his strength and tackling ability make him hard to play against. He will use his speed and ability to be in the right place at the right time to make blocks or inch perfect tackles, the villa centre back kept a clean sheet on 15 occasions and is widely regarded as the best CB in Murphtannia. He is good friends with Shaun Banks and George Murphy, both the Manager and Striker. He has a very good passing ability and ability to hoof the ball up the pitch. Can also play at Left Back and is a decent Goalkeeper when needed.

Right Wing Back - Jack Bridge - 5ft4 - 24 - This Villa right back, like his friend and partner Cartlidge, is renowned for his pace, crossing and slide tackles. On many occasions this season Jack has run up the pitch to whip in a ball, and managed to sprint back and get an inch perfect slide tackle to win back the ball. While he is also a more attacking player he is more balanced than his partner, getting less assist but better defensive stats. Moved to Tikariot, however after a poor season was relegated, and it remains to be seen if they can retain their NT team place this WC, or with Hayes performing badly as well, if a new player can rise to the occasion A poor header of the ball, Jack prefers to deliver crosses rather than be on the receiving end of them.

Defensive Midfielder - Jacob Marley - 28 - 5ft8 - Vice Captain - The experienced and cool head in front of the defence, Jacob has been a AFC Walsall United player for 2 seasons. He is excellent at organising the defence and is the 1st line of defence. Jacob's short and long passing ability means he can easily get the ball and distribute it to the midfield.

Bob to Box Midfielder - Conner Owen - 22 - 5ft5 - Conner is one of Villa's star players, having scored 6 goals and gotten 15 assist's. Short, Pacy and never tiring, Conner could cover every blade of grass without getting tired. With Great ball control, pace, stamina and passing ability Conner can easily get the ball and carry it up field to the CAM or Target Man. He is quite strong making it harder to wrestle the ball of him and has excellent heading ability and jumping despite his small stature. Although only 21, Conner has already won the Murphtannian Ballon Dor and the Murphtannian Premier League twice.

Deep lying Play maker - George Jenkins - 21 - 6ft7- A very tall and strong midfielder Jenkins is an intimidating presence on the field, strong tackling and pace makes him ideal for a deep lying play maker roll, he will frequently try and pick a pass to the Box-to-Box or RWB. He can also do a job as extra defensive cover. Being tall his is very good in the air, having scored 10 headed goals in the Murphtannian Premier League, the most of any player. Heading isn't his only asset with him being the set piece specialist. He scored 10 goals from free kicks and 5/5 pens as he went on to be the joint top scorer in the league. He also got 15 assists from free kicks and corners.

Central attacking Midfielder - Jake Styler - 25 - 5ft4 - Jake isn't built physically and is quite short, however his technical ability is second only to Murph. With the most assist's for Liverpool Town, 23, it highlights Jakes excellent ability to pick a perfect pass, find space, beat the defender with excellent dribbling. While he isn't the strongest defender's struggle to keep up with Jake at the best of times, sitting just behind the 2 strikers Jake is a key part of Murphtannia's famous front 3. Styler earned a move to GRF team Molding last season

Target Man - Jake Pole - 26 - 5ft9. Jake Pole Isn't the strongest player ever but his hold up play is second to none. When receiving the ball he will use this hold up play and decent pace to keep the ball, bringing other teammates into play, scoring 14 goals this season shows Jake still has an eye for goal however his 18 assists speak louder as to the type of player he is, he is also Murphtannia's and Villas greatest header of the ball in terms of ability, having scored 5 of his goals via headers.

Advanced Forward - George Murphy (Murph to avoid confusion with the manager) - 6ft - 17 - Captain - Murphy regarded as the Greatest Murphtannian player of his generation. Despite being only being 18 Murphy is already Villa and Murphtannia captain. His age doesn't show with the leadership qualities his posses and his ability to deal with pressure well. Murph is rapid and has excellent stamina, combined with his ball control, superb finishing, decent ability to hold up the ball and ability to pick a perfect pass, it is no wonder Murphy is the top scorer in the Murphtannian Premier League, the boyhood villa fan scored 30 goals and got 10 assists, Murph is unselfish and will happily pass the ball to a teammate with a better scoring position. A decent penalty taker, Murphy prefers to be on the receiving end of set pieces rather than taking them. Many a time this season has he used his skill and ball control to beat a defence and his finishing ensures he has never missed a 1 on 1. He is by far Murphtannia's key player. Can also play LW, RW, CAM, LWB and LB.

Reserve Team

2nd choice keeper - Steven Philling - 23 - AFC Walsall United number 1, excellent at penalties, having saved 9/10 penalties he's faced this season.

3rd choice keeper - Tom Hardy - 32- Liverpool Town number 1- Experienced player.

LWB/LW- Tom Doyle - 27 - Plays for Birmingham United FC

RWB/RW - Lucas Hayes- 29 - Plays for AFC Walsall United FC

RWB/RW - Jude Elliott - 17 - Plays for Villa, has been called up to see if they can displace Bridges and Hayes.

The Murphtannia stadium

The Murphtannia stadium was first constructed in 1920, since then it has been the home of the Murphtannian national team and the stadium in which all cups finals are played.

[size=200]Facilities [/size]

The Murphtannia stadium has state of the art training centres, youth facilities, lighting, flood lights, pitch quality, and anything else you can think of. It has a capacity of 100,000 people and has seen many memorable moments such as the national team lifting the British Murphtannian Championships..

Other stadiums

The main stadiums used by the Murphtannian national team other than the Murphtannia stadium are Villa Park , where the Murphtannian FA vase, Murphtannian FA cup and League semi finals are held, and Anfield. These stadiums are stacked with History and some of the finest in Murphtannia. Finally Wembley stadium can also be used however it is mostly used by the English national team. (OOC: Most Murphtannian teams played in England until our independence and annexation of the UK. However each country still has their own FA like before.)

The Fans

The Murphtannian fans are passionate and loyal. Football is a very large part of Murphtannian culture and most games sell capacity, even in the lower depths of the football pyramid or amateur football. Murphtannian fans aren't known for hooliganism and are mostly kind and respectful, until the game begins, where the banter begins. When Murphtannia wins anything parties can go on for days and everyone is given time off work.

History of the national team

For an in depth history please refer to the fact book on footballing history in Murphtannia.

For those too lazy for that here is a basic history of our achievements

Our first international game was a 3-2 friendly win over Megistos.

Finally Murphtannia invented and hosted the First British Murphtannian Championships (Between members of the Commonwealth) in 1950, winning it in the years of 1954, 1956 and finally in 2004.

Of course no football team is complete without a kit to play in. The Murphtannian Culture Minister has been hard at work creating a kit that not only makes Murphtannian players look stylish, but also have a practical use. The Minister of Defense decided to get involved, and was quoted as saying "What do you mean we can't give them invisibility suits" After many weeks of hard work the following kits have been comissioned.

While the whole thing doesn't follow the national colours of red and black, it has seen record sales across Murphtannia.

The Gk Kit for Murphtannia is where the Minister for Defense got involved, designed for the goalkeeper to be camouflaged against the pitch, of course he didn't realize goalkeepers stand up not lie down, and all this do was made him stand out.

Of course the away kit looks equally stylish, the minister of culture decided to go with a mix of gold and black, in an attempt to stand out.

Finally the GK away kit, original designs were scrapped until one day one of the assistants working for the Minister of Culture dropped a melon on the design, before cleaners could clear it up the Minister looked at it for 15 minutes and went "no no, it's perfect." which was how the Melon kit was created.

A Dance with Football
A look into the lives of the people involved in Adabian football and those associated with them

Chapter 13: A Call

Thirteen years later
Adab City

He turned around on his way out, gazing at the sign posted right above the door. “Saad Kaykali Property and Real Estate”, it read in big, black and golden letters. He had gone quite the long way from that small office that he set up in the corner of his house years ago. The current office was much more spacious and comfy, nestled on the fourth floor of a downtown building in Adab City’s central business district. It was better-equipped to handle the firm's increasing number of employees and independent contractors, and it was closer to the financial heart of the city. He smiled and nodded at the sign, a quiet acknowledgement of how far he had come. His life had been a series of ups and downs, but now – now, at last – it all seemed to be good.

His employees gradually streamed past the opened door. He stepped aside to make way for them, the boss and his men cheerfully acknowledging each other with a grin, accompanied by the nod and wave, and “Good night!” on repeat. He remained there for some time after his last employee had locked the door and gone away, leaning against the wall, his sight shifting between the sign, the door, and the dimmed lights beyond that door.

It took the voice of a security guard to rouse him from his solitude. “Mr. Kaykali, is that you?” said the guard in a wondering voice, making his last round around the hallways before the change in shifts. “You haven’t gone home yet, sir?”

“Not yet, I guess.” He turned towards the guard, managing a faint but sincere smile, strands of his greying hair clashing against the wall. “What, you’re going to banish me from this place?”

“Of course not, sir,” replied the guard, smiling back. The clash of his boots against the floor produced a faint boom-boom echo across the hallway. But he was obviously acutely aware of the other man’s significance; the thump of his boots slowed, and he bowed his head somewhat as he made his way past him. The nearer he was, the smaller their chances at eye contact became. This was not done out of fear, but merely a sign of overwhelming respect.

“This is a good night,” the older man suddenly rattled out. “Good night.”

“It is, sir,” said the guard, glancing back at the man. “Good night, sir.” The sound of his boots was receding into the air, and then he turned left and disappeared, once again leaving the older man alone.

That security guard was only one of millions holding Saad Kaykali in high esteem. More often than not, it was not because of his career in real estate investing or his establishment of a fast-growing real estate firm. As for Saad himself, he had long put that chapter of his life behind him, and he preferred it that way.

After deciding that the solitude had satisfied him enough, he made his way towards the elevator. Dressed smartly in a business suit and dark-blue tie, wearing jet-black loafers, carrying a laptop bag, he looked every bit the leader of a real estate firm. He brought with him an air of serene self-confidence, a kind disposition and willingness to listen to others combined with the ability to assert his authority and make the big decisions when needed. These qualities had served him well in his current career, and indeed in his previous one.

He encountered no one on his journey to the elevator, nor in the elevator itself. Everyone, it seemed, had gone home or to the nearby bars or cafes. Though the elevator itself still worked well, the lights had begun to fade, and lately there had been several complaints about elevators across the building being much slower and, in one case, just coming to a halt between floors. Whistling the melody of an Adabian folk tune, Saad made a mental note to himself to fund the purchase of new elevators when the time came.

The next person he encountered was one of the receptionists, a kind young lady who often seemed overworked. Saad and the receptionists had been greeting each other every morning and night for a few years now. Saad would sometimes make small talk, and some sort of affinity had developed between them.

The other receptionists had left their post, and by the looks of it she would be following them soon. She was already putting some papers and the phone charger into her bag. “Mr. Kaykali,” she rose to her feet as the building’s esteemed tenant went past her.

“Hello there,” Saad greeted her back, nodding. “You haven’t gone home yet?”

“I’m about to, sir,” she responded, smiling a somewhat panicked smile, her eyes shifting quickly between the older man and her bag, her hair rather undone and strands of it blown by the wind. “I- I’m sorry, sir, I was… putting my things into my bag.” A moment of silence followed. “Well, actually, uh, my boyfriend is picking me up, uh…”

“Well that sounds nice!” Saad smiled, though that was quickly replaced by a look of concern. “You alright? You don’t seem too happy about it.”

“Well, actually, sir, uh,” she smiled again, clearly struggling to get the right words out, “well actually we broke up two months ago, and we got back together a week ago. I mean I’m excited, but I just hope that everything goes well this time. I would hate for things to go wrong yet again.”

“I understand that feeling.” Saad nodded. As he was about to resume speaking, the sound of his words was suddenly drowned by the familiar roar of an engine, stopping right outside the main doors of the building. He turned around to behold a yellow Pontiac Firebird and a tall, lanky man stepping out of it. Dang, she got herself a rich guy. The receptionist plodded past Saad as if the next step would be her last, beaming at her man, nervous but excited nonetheless. The guy, too, couldn’t take his eyes off her as he ascended the steps towards the doors. Well, until he saw the man standing beside and a bit to the back of his girl.

He stopped in his tracks, and his eyes shifted away from her to that man. She stopped, too, at first not understanding why he was no longer looking at her, but then turning at the same direction. The young couple was now both staring at the older man. The guy stood there still, mouth agape. “Oh my God, Mr. Kaykali, is that you?!”

Saad’s eyes narrowed. “Do I recognize you, young man?”

The guy started walking again, but now at Saad’s direction. Every word he said was increasingly tinged with excitement. “Sir, oh my God, I don’t know what to say… sir, my God, I’ve always wanted to meet you. You are one of our country’s greatest legends. My girlfriend told me you work here, but I’ve never seen you. Until now.”

Saad tried to smile, though it came out a bit forced. “Well, thank you. Uh, I’m not really that great, to be honest with you. My players are greater than me. I just tried to guide them.”

“No, sir, no, you’re the greatest too,” said the younger guy, now only a foot away from Saad. He extended his hand, which Saad took. “It’s an honor to meet you, sir. And on this night of all nights!”

“Why this night? What’s special about this night?”

“Well, I mean they just announced that we’re returning to international football. I just heard it on my radio on the way here! And of course everyone wants you to come back, sir.”

“Wait, what?”

“You haven’t heard, sir? Well they just announced it, actually, like a few minutes ago when I was on my way here. Oh my God, it’s exciting, sir, and I don’t know if you want to return or not, but speaking as a fan of the national team, please do come back. I think everyone wants you to come back!”

“Well, uh, that’s interesting,” Saad’s voice began to slow, “but I think there are… many younger managers and… coaches, who are more than willing and able and suitable to take the team forward. And, uh, I’m kinda old anyway, and-“

At this point his phone began to ring. Saad reached down to his pocket, wondering if this call was also related to this news that he had just heard. There was no name on the phone, only numbers; whoever was calling was not on his contact list. Before he could get a single word out, he was greeted by a familiar voice. “Saad, is that you?”

He recognized that voice straight away. They had not spoken for quite a long time, but that voice he still remembered. Meanwhile the young couple watched him as he took the call. “Naram-Sin?”

“Oh alhamdulillah it’s you! Look, I’m sorry for annoying you at this kinda late hour, I know you’re probably confused, so my old phone is dying and I just bought a new phone and I haven’t entered your name yet into my contacts. Now I just want to call you and I couldn’t be bothered to enter your name hahahaha.” He broke into a little laughter, which Saad responded to with a solemn silence.

“Well, uh, it’s nice to talk to you again, Naram-Sin,” said Saad after Naram-Sin’s laughter had subsided. “Is there anything that I can do for you?”

“Well, are you busy right now?”

“Not really. I’m done for the night. I’m just gonna go home after this.”

“Do you mind if I pay you a visit tonight? You still live at that old house, right?”

Saad’s heart stopped, and his face darkened. He instantly knew what Naram-Sin wanted to talk about. He wanted to turn him down at this very moment, but this was an old friend that he hadn’t seen and spoken to for some time, and he did want to see him again. With some reluctance, he came to his decision. “Well, yeah, sure, just come on over. I’ll have my housekeeper make some tea for you, if you want it. I’ll be there in about thirty minutes, I guess, or an hour max.”

“Thank you, man. You’re too good to me.” The laughter had gone away from Naram-Sin’s voice, and Saad thought he could pick up a bit of sadness in that voice. But then that voice brightened once again. “Well, see you there, Saad!” Then the line went dark.

The young couple was still there, watching what they knew at that moment to be a fateful phone call. “Well, people,” Saad turned to them, sighing, “don’t get your hopes too high yet.”

CAM MEISTER HANDED TOUGH CHALLENGE FOR FIRST GAME IN CHARGE
Picture the scene, its your first time in charge of an international football side and you have no idea what to expect as you face the top seeded team in the group in a country that you don't know, sounds daunting right? well this is what new Central Shaneville manager Cam Meister was thinking as he stepped foot into Muralos for the first time ahead of Central Shaneville's opening match against Omerica at Alexandrovsk-Sakhalinsky Arena in Muralos.

"Omerica are a great team" Mr. Meister began "All I'm saying is if I beat them I may become some kind of Pop culture icon back home or something" he jokes as his team can be seen training the background, he was then asked if he can get Central Shaneville out the group like Jay Bucks before him back all the way back at Independents Cup 5 to which he said "Oh come on now, I just got here...manage your expectations but we're gonna try." he says with a humble tone which makes a change from his predecessor.

Striker Josh Smith was pumped up for the game saying "There's a unity in the Central Shaneville camp for the first since in a VERY long time and it's good to see, I feel like we can do bits in this group and I feel like we are going to go places from this day forward should our match against Omerica go to plan, of course our attacking style of football can lead us into trouble but its what we're known for."

The team has already been announced by Central Shaneville and is ready to play so stay tuned to the Shaneville Sports Network as Central Shaneville returns to the Independents Cup for a third crack at the crown.
CENTRAL SHANEVILLE ACHIEVEMENTS:

13th Winter Olympics - Men's Giant Slalom - Gold Medalists
Melayu Archipelago Games I - Women's Sepaktakraw - Gold Medalists

What can we expect from the squad

With the Cup of Harmony having ended recently it's suddenly time for the 12th Independent Associations Championship and the third that Kohnhead will be participating in. The first saw us fresh off of a Round of 16 birth at the 77th Cup of Harmony win our Group in surprising fashion that included a 3-2 win over then IAC power Port Ember. This was under Christopher Kohnhead and that game against Port Ember in particular just showed how much promise we had as without an injured Linus Rallyton, Al Torgan filled in beautifully and scored the winner in Omerica. In the Round of 16 eventual champs (and the champs of IAC 11) Poafmersia beat us 3-2 in a highly competitive match that gave us hope for the future.

Last time we traveled to Havynwilde with the second tournament that Michael White would be coaching and the team looked quite different after a disastorous World Cup Qualifying. While we retained much of the same time from qualifiers (minus Christopher Kohnhead of course) we made it to the Round of 32 at the Cup of Harmony losing on penalties to HUElavia. Expectations were high with a very different squad in place due to changes made by Michael White and there was a lot of optimism especially when our Group became quite easy given that we drew no true pot 1 team as Havynwilde the hosts were given a spot in the first spot and we got in their group. We barely made it to the next round and then lost in the Round of 24 to Quemmor Isles by one goal in a big upset.

For the 12th IAC Kohnhead are here following a disappointing Round of 32 exit at the 79th Cup of Harmony losing to Mercedini 5-1 in a major blowout following a two wins in three matches Group Stage with the one loss being to Eura of all teams. Now as we ready ourselves for a trip to Muralos for our Group Stage, let's take a look at where the team is at as we once again are drawn into a group as the top ranked team considering we have a host with Muralos being in the same group as us. However much like last time it's definitely possible home field advantage is a thing as we lost to Havynwilde despite being favored in their nation.

The team that comes to the IAC is the exact same as the one that came in 4th place in Group 19 of the World Cup Qualifiers and the exact same one that had the run in the Cup of Harmony. Expectations are for a quarterfinals finish and I truly think that we can reach these expectations and maybe do better with the momentum we have and the team that we have.

Offensively it's still Korkson and Maltos up top and both had bounce back campaigns during Qualifiers after miserable performances during the ones for 86. In the Cup of Harmony Maltos looked like our best player and the 25 year olds should both be building off of good domestic seasons in the KFA Premier League helping Kohnhead City FC out once again.

The midfield is quite active in the offense as well and Al Torgan is a master at scoring from the left midfield position while Rallyton and Laker are often giving out assists. In addition with Sophie Johnson operating in the middle as well we are built on speed at all three levels even defensively and the Kohnheadian counter attack should be devastating.

In addition Rodar and Radison both have pace and Radison in particular is heavily used on attacks up the wing operating as a wingback from his left back position and has quite a good chemsitry with the midfielders around him. Rodar will need to play better as she is currently viewed as the weak spot in probably the whole team but she has played well for the New Capetown Falcons in Taehsan and is still growing. In the center of the defense remains the ever consistent Claire Corton and Miranda Atkinson who hasn't played as well as she did three years ago but she's still young and it's hard to play better than an MVP season for the championship winning side in the KFA Premier League.

On the bench expect Thomas Stratford to continue to receive minutes as the coaching staff has shown a willingness to take out a midfielder and play more of a 4-3-3, Harry Richman might see action in one or two games and John Smith won't see any playing time barring lots of injuries unless we are up big late. Midfield wise Audrey Henderson will probably be the top one off the bench for us after a bounceback season for FC Kohnface City however expect Suzanna Barter to start seeing more time, Ida Cogginter will see limited time and Sporet probably won't be playing at all as his International career is set to end after this IAC. Callie Porsha should be the top defender off the bench while Arnold Donaldson has probably supplanted CPL for the next spot.

In the keeper position Bertha Sanders will obviously still be starting as our #1 Keeper for the long time future continues to grow and develop and is still quite young. Madison Richards shouldn't see any time barring injury although watch out for a push from Amber Washington to take over as the #2 soon with Richardson coming up in age.

Our first match will be with Adab a nation that last participated in the World Cup Qualifiers for the first and only time 14 years ago in their time back in World Cup 81 and participated in the 5th edition of the IAC. Adab played quite well in both of those making the quarterfinals in the IAC and despite their 14 year hiatus from International football they have kept up with a domestic league and so we should not and we cannot take them lightly especially considering what happened last time with us barely beating regionmates The Fortem in our first match at the 11th IAC.

The Spenson Star

In what will probably not go down as one of the most rousing calls to patriotic spirit, Kim Higden has defended the Picksall Islands' participation in the twelfth Independent Associations Championship on the indisputable grounds that "we're independent, and we're an association."

"I mean, it certainly isn't as if we'd be eligible to participate in the Atlantian Oceania, Rushmore, or Esportiva championships," she continued, "and the fact is that many of these sides don't contest the WCC tournaments. I mean, Space is all kind of..." she gestured vaguely towards the heavens, "nē-nēbog, I've never heard of Honumang Dūmaf* or Nodōmō Pekē**. So yes, we're very independent from the rest of the regions."

This, of course, does not resolve the question of whether the Picksall Islands are a sufficiently "autonomous" region to be worthy of facing off against full-blown nations (relative skill levels aside). "I think they totally qualify," said insufferable blowhard Maxine Stone. "It's big of our country to recognize that they totally are their own cultural entity who are inherently oppressed by the ruthless imperial government and--come back, I have graphs."

Such revisionist protestations aside, it is far-fetched to describe the heterogeneous population of Zwangzug as being particularly imperial or colonialist, beyond "is this the edge of the map or just a bad graphics rendering" curiosity. The full national team would, of course, be eligible, but between players' busy domestic schedules and a rumored invitation to the Eagles' Cup it is likely that further "regional" play would lead to exhausting fixture congestion.

Enter Higden, who has all the confidence and sub-national pride of, well, a reserve goalkeeper (for the uninitiated, this means "not very"). Perhaps, as some of my colleagues suggest, this is merely a way to foster regional and linguistic identity within Zwangzug rather than stirring up secessionism; at any rate, a woman who briefly represented Zwangzug as a whole would be a bit of an odd choice for the latter.

Image

Ibwō, #4, will probably wear something like this on the back of her jersey assuming the referees can pronounce it.

Fortunately, Muralos seems to be the kind of society where multilingualism is cherished--check out all those Esperanto stadiums! Picksall Islands have been drawn in Group F, along with:
-Trolleborg, who made their international debut in mainland Zwangzug by winning Baptism of Fire 71, and have qualified for the last two World Cups
-Abanhfleft, who are fielding an all-women side
-Sannyamathland, who may or may not be a land of math, but are definitely Lions and probably Soviet
-Garbelia, who are definitely otters and probably Soviet
-Tequilo, who endured a linguistically-troublesome outbreak at the last IAC. Relations between their neighborhood of the multiverse and Zwangzug's are not traditionally warm, but this experience may have earned them some sympathy; perhaps Higden's most memorable moment with the national team was being the one who sounded most like Lucas Kukiseso when a concussion left him with a temporary case of Foreign Accent Syndrome. While his case healed on its own, she may have more patience with the Pitxileros' struggles.

Led by university players Vūnēm Ibwō and Wōkēnd Kufind, whose colleges both, um, crashed out of the first round of March Mania, the kedgōbum players are a defensive lot--even if they're not quite as committed to all-out defense (or, more mercifully, being left-wing snobs) as Namiri Forest. If anything, their tactics are a bit reminiscent of Excelsior Slogda, who have been both dominant and terrible over the years. Will the defense cohere as a unit, or will it be left to Ēwiko Hūmgin to follow in her coach's lead as the stoic loner? The fact that we have to ask suggests that, deep down, the islanders are just as Zwangzugian as the rest of us--for better and for worse.

*We think she means "Montaña Verde," who play in Group D, but apparently this could translate to several other countries within the Græntfjall sphere of influence, so next time we're making her sound it out.

**probably Grey County?

What does it mean to be independent?

Does it mean to not mess around in front of everybody else? Does it mean to stand out from the crowd in your own unique way?

In terms of the latter option it was taken in a way nobody expected. Squidroidia, one of the best nations in the Independents, flushed out of the Cup of Harmony with not even a win to their credit. Heartbreaking, abnormal, and to the SFA, the realization of their worst nightmare.

With Manager Mito gone into the sunset, there needed to be someone new to guide Squidroidia out of this low point, pulling them back into the spotlight.

Introducing the Barunian. Adam Johnson.

A veteran of the IAC, a veteran of World Cups, the man with just the right experience to put this team over the hump. To push them out from the anger and frustration and rise like a phoenix from the ashes of the Dagan rubble Mito left behind.

But with the SFA considering pulling Squidroidia out of the Independents scene entirely, Johnson had one chance, just one small chance, to prove to the association that Indpendents football was good enough for them to stay long turn.

A journey to Almuzahara awaited...

RED RADIO A-GO-GO
ITS JUST THE SAME OLD SHOW

Part 1/6: Cockharrow Road, Bonesea

There are migrant workers from Tequilo all over the known multiverse, and in many of the sixteen corners of the as-yet unknown multiverse, each with their little state-issued red radio. Xob Brea, a road worker from Yaya city in Guastenango, picked his up at the departure lounge of Tapa International airport, as he prepared for his new job fixing potholes on the infamous mountain road in Bonesea.

A pot of tea was warming on the camping stove inside the small shipping container on the side of the road where the crew of the Cockharrow Road Maintenance Dept. happened to be that day, filling holes and keeping an eye out for rampaging honey mastodons. The crew ganger or supervisor, Backbone McCarthy, called his men in for a cuppa. It was chilly outside in the mountain spring air and the break would be welcome. Xob, still learning to speak the Boneylinga, took a little time out to listen to The Football Show on the Tequilo World Service broadcasting through his radio - the kick-off of the IAC was only a day away. His crew-mates regaled him with tales of the glory days of Bonesea in international football, and good-naturedly ribbed him about the inadequacies of the modern Agave-Blues team. They were supremely amused by his little red radio.

Even when you go through security at Tapa International, the customsfolk ask you if you remembered to pack your little red radio - if, of course, you are a citizen of Tequilo. It is a cultural icon, provided to you for free, so wherever you go in the multiverse, you have a link back to the old country. It is so dearly cherished by the Tequiloa that there need not be a law on the statute books insisting that you take your red radio with you wherever you go - they take it willingly. It is a great comfort, a prophylactic against homesickness and a promise that all is well as ends well.

"It's just the same old show," said Jim 'Plato' Carlidnack, the tar-pitch brewer who was stoking his cauldron ready for when their tea break finished. He didn't mean that the Tequilo World Service was boring or had too many repeat shows. He meant that in an infinite multiverse, whatever Xob listened to had been said before, an infinite number of times. Jim always said stuff like that. Ad infinitum. Literally, if you could believe Jim.

LETTERS OF THE WEEK
When it needs saying and you're not afraid to say it...

Good morning everyone. We have letters!

Regular provocateur ‘Orejas Grandes’ wants to start us off with some provocations: "So we are going to Muralos for the football, and apparently that is a place between India and Japan if my cartographic reading skills serve me well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they pretend countries in the fictional universe of cartoon footballer Rúi de Los Rovas? You know - Blackburn Rovers, Rúi Raza, jobs in Qatar, The Desert Cup and the FIFA Laundry - the deadly drugs, money and people-trafficking cartel? Surely this Muralos place is an invented nation in an internet forum - where is the IAC really being held, and is this all a diversion because of the Kipolalia pandem- [yes, thank you OG, erm, let's not go there - Ed]"

Young Juanita Lirraytegui, aged 6 and three quarters scrawls: "I hope the lobely [sic] Pitxileros will be alright in the IAC, and don't get any nasty dis- [don't worry young Juanita; nothing to worry about over there, by instruction of the hosts - Ed]"

Meanwhile Sylvia Bombarra of Lipa is first in line with some useful gossip: "I heard that three travellers got taken off a plane coming from Almuzahara because [redacted] and since then, all hell [redacted] with [redacted] and the army [redacted]; now because of that, [redacted] is in [redacted] and [redacted]. What a turn up for the [redacted]!"

Not sure what you are getting at there, Sylvia, but just to be clear, there is no [redacted] in this year's IAC hosting nations. Let's talk about something else, by order of the management.

Regular correspondent Rùben Curto of Chanco Cóndor wants to remind us that this is a football daily and it would be really helpful if we could stick to football reports for the sake of our readers: "...so please could you stick to football reports for the sake of your readers and any useful related information like stadium collapses or natural disasters directly under stadiums or nuclear explosions that cause megadeaths and, critically, disrupt the IAC timetable. Thank you in advance."

You'll be delighted to hear that none of those things are scheduled to happen, Rùben, by another order of the management, so we will definitely stick to football. And the occasional pernicious gossip. And pedantic corrections.

Speaking of which, ‘Gato de Selva’ of Tirinto writes from the Threewide Department of Corrections: "I for one am fed up with the miscommunications from the office of the International Flippin Correctional Forum. Only eight years ago they said I could have a fortnight's holiday. But now they are giving me two weeks off instead. Well, which is it?"

I'm sure future letter writers will be able to help with that, Gato, although Rùben won't be impressed if we have a whole long debate about whether it's two weeks or a fortnight when we could be talking about [redacted] instead. [¡¡¡Godammit!!! - Ed.]

If you have spotted a miniscule and barely noteworthy inconsistency, want to want to disagree with our correspondents or just like to share your opinion on the pitxi, please drop us a line at Letters To The Editor, spambucket@gola.teq or slowmail to PO Box 654353583.2, Grand Central Post Office, Tapalupé.1.

[1]Or TG Tequilo and we'll be sure to publish you in the next edition of the DAILY!

TROLLEBORG NATIONAL TEAM

Nickname: Trolls

Total official games in every tournament +76=26–37

Trolleborg national team, despite arriving at the world stage relatively recently, already take part in four World Qualifying Campaigns and as much IAC tournaments. Latter always was difficult for the Trolls, and it was seen, if new lineup can break with this unfortunate tradition.

NATIONAL TEAM

Image

COACH

The team is still coached by Morten TROGHIL – triumphator of the BoF and creator of every success (and responsible for every failure) of national team. Altought apart from the two victories in WCQ groups team never got near of winning anything, he recently passed another public confidence test, which was mandatory for a civil servants in Trolleborg, with a overwhelming margin.

PLAYERS

For a recent MC\Melayu Cup team was visibly revamped, since this is good opportunity to see new players in the battle. And some of the new players go to the IAC.

Goalkeepers
Tomas Kot Kotsson (31). Flexible and agile, quick-thinking, he, alas, don’t make miracles in the international games. But after recent FA tranining sessions for Trolleborg goalkeepers he is significantly improve his performance, in MC games team in average conceded much less goals than usual.
Klemens Gould (28). Solid number two of the internatonal team, Klemens always seen as safe bet, but, unfortunately, when having opportunity, he play not-so-good games, and it’s possible, that coach replace him as a second goalkeeper.
Jesper Krogh (23). Recent addition to the squad, player who already prove himself on a league level, fast and good at the second floor. At the MC he taste big game first time.

Defenders
Kasper Wolters (28). One of the team brightest stars, he is right back by default, but he is very strong, very fast, have a very good shot and even better crossing skill. Having all this, he very often make a lighting runs to the opposition box and sometime substitute right midfielder if need arise. He played extremely confidently last few tournaments.
Loonstrup, Jesper (23). Another man from unfortunate U21 team, he at last receive a ticket to the national team camp. He is flank defender in the preferred Trolleborg style for such a players – fast moving, adept in supporting attacking moves, willingly throw himself in the way of the ball, aggressive in tackling.
Aien Troger (28). He is fast, strongly build and extremely good in tackling. It’s very challenging to move into the box past him and he is made a serious progress for four seasons Trolleborg team played in the international football.
Torben Bagger (29). He was distinguished by composure and the right choice of position in the games of domestic championship, and he was called up to the national team due to the breakdown of the two key defence players, proved to be solid choice, and recently he managed shouldered some established players out of lineup.
Joran Du Riis(26). Altough only added to the squad year and a half ago, this cold-blooded fighter already prove himself on the highest level.
William Schendel(25). Recent addition to the squad, agile fast moving defender known for his skillful positioning and man-marking.
Jaan Berg (22). He is one of the Trolleborg players who play in the first ever football tournament for the country, U18 world cup. Man-marker, which have give a tough time to established forwards in the league with every opportunity, he have a chance in the first national team.
Torgeir Dushegub (31). Known as a Column, this tall and strong player usually dominates a box both in the air and at the grass. Being always calm and confidence, he projected aura of them around. Age advanced on him, but he was trying to live up to the fan expectations. He missed MC due to the injury, but right now looked ready for a fieldwork.

Midfielders
Morten Gronquist (22). He has intake of international football with now-disbanded U18 team, and move fast forward in his career – raised in the Finnsnes Hurps youth team, he prefer to be transferred to the lower division where he have a place in the line-up, and then have won second league, then helped his team establish in the highest league. Making himself a name because of his good passing and dribbling skills.
Rolf Valgren (31). Quick-thinking, with a perfect understanding of game, seeing everyone and everything in the field, and with brilliant passing skills, this man can bring ball everywhere he wants. He definitely add something from international experience, and his experience is what new players maybe needed most in the forthcoming battles.
Jasper Lucius (23). With a perfect sense of game, this central midfielder usually can move ball to where it want with only one touch, and he is good with a set-pieces.
Finn Finnsnes (31). Already making himself a name in world football due to his extremely good game and attractive style of play. He is swift, smart, good dribbler and excelled in set-pieces. But things looked looked like coach take him into IAC mainly as a backup and mentor for a midfielders, wanting to prove new players in battles.
Morten Troll (27). He is a brightest star amongst midfielders in the whole country. Genius of game, with a wonderful dribbling, beautiful technique, excellent pass and extremely good shot, he won many games for his local team single-handedly, but also a great team player. Highly probably, he will be a player of generation, and very probably, best player Trolleborg ever had. He brilliantly justified all the positive reviews of his game at almost every tournament.
Ruud Kolding (29). Left midfielder, covering lot of ground with his unbeliveable stamina, can press forwards or go back as team need.
Kenneth Pathmoor (25). Prove himself highly successfull adept to the condition of the international football, Kenneth is versatile and clever midfielder, who can cover a lot of space and conjure goal opportunity for his forwards from nothing, and he was more than happy to upset opponents in person, prove this in the recent WCQ.
Hendrick Groningen (30). The defensive midfielder, probably the best in his generation. His talent of intercepting ball in the middle and using every possibility to begin attacks was fully appreciated by everyone – apart, probably, of his opponents. With a coming age, however, he was a slightly slower than needed to be.
Windass, Kasper (23). Broad and strong, he looked a little bit sluggish when moving without ball, but everything changes when he have it. Then he moved extremely fast, sweeping away everything in its path due to his mighty build and usually ended move with a clever pass.

Forwards
Stuart Kerr (31). Quick, brave, skillful, moved fast despite age, love to puzzle defenders and having ability shot from everywhere in the box right despite defenders best efforts. Brilliantly confirmed his reputation as a prolific scorer at home, he was definitely keystone of team that winning BoF, winning a prize for the topgoalscorer of BoF and continue to add goals in almost every tournament.
Karsten Severin (26). This fast forward, who can find opportunity to put ball into the net even in the most troublesome situations, are quite impressive in the last six season. But it will be seen, if he succeed in defending his place in lineup against new players.
Tom Gulbranden (29). Build like a very tall stone wall, he easily can tramp defenders if he wish to do so. It is looked impossible, that a man of such a stature can bring himself in the air at all, but nevertheless he is – strongly jumping and struck the ball by the head with deadly precision, scoring many of the most beautiful goals of the team. His tandem with Kerr already well-known and recognizable in Multiverse.
Torgeir Berglund (24). Another recent addition to the squad, classical power forward in the mold of Tom Gulbranden.
Torfinn Jivoglot (22). Albeit very young, he is already played full season as a forward in the National League with a very decent play-to-goal rate. Very fast, reading game perfectly, with a strong goal flair, he will probably have a bright future.

TEAM GAME

Team practiced attractive attacking game on a fast pace, and already its style well-known and liked by public. Integral part of the team’s game will be mighty pressing, applied whatever on the field when ball is not on our side. Team looked highly motivated and eager to please fans (both local and foreign).

National psyche tell players to put everything even if odds are heavily against, so almost every match in the league played with high determination, and national team shirt oblige one who wore it for even more efforts. Unsportsmanlike behavior is highly discouraged even if in the interests of the cause, and national team players are required to meet the highest standards possible, so it is completely impossible to imagine a player of the Trolleborg national team faking injury or begging for a penalty. But players are not easily bullied, though, and more than able to stand up for themselves both as individuals and as a team, and have a strong inclination to go tit-for-tat in case of excessive brutality on the opponent’s part.

Style -5.

There was no contradiction between “attractive attacking game” and –5 style, as second figure has meaning only for a scorinator

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: No
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but I reserve right to estimate injury severeness
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes only for a last ditch fouls or two yellows, any other variants must be discussed with me
Godmod other events: No, but if you have something interesting in mind, let me know and we try to find a middle ground.

Greetings, compatriots!
This is Tiernes Riper and right now we will talk with FA CEO Torben Mortensen.

T.M.: Yes, it has become our good tradition to talk before tournaments.

T.R.: But this is not always pleasant, I must add. And now, for the third time in a row, the team did not reach at least the MC playoffs...

T.M.: I fully understand the irritation of the fans, I uttered my annual stock of dirty swearings while watching the development of events. But, in essence, what happened is just a reflection of the realities of international football. Anything can happen, all kinds of inexplicable failures, victories and oddities of fate. I'm not even talking about the fact that sometimes a couple of whistles made when needed - and the game sometimes radically changes its course. We saw this at the last World Championship.

T.R.: And what is the FA's position on participation in the MC?

T.M.: I think we will use MK, - if we are still invited there, - as a way to test young players in order to see how they will behave and what they will be capable of when faced with the realities of big sport. The past tournament allowed the coach to test many of the younger players in action, this is not so bad. We will see someone of them at the IAC, while others will need to work on themselves to have another chance.

T.R.: Asking who and what we will see on the IAC is, of course, useless?

T.M.: Of course. I never make public predictions.

T.R.: But maybe you will at last console us with promises of trophies and medals?

T.M.: No, this is not the case. I understand that the fans would like to expand the museum of sports, new halls, testifying to new victories, but we still have to work and work on this. Yes, I understand, before our eyes the example of Ziwana with her numerous victories in regional tournaments and Poafmersia with two IAC Cups and the quarterfinals of the World Cup. But we must remember that here we often cannot do without external factors: for example, if it were not for incompetent refereeing of the last match of the group stage, the team lost one goal less and we would have got into the playoffs.

T.R.: Is there any way to prevent things that happened in the second half of the last qualifying tournament and at the World Cup itself?

T.M.: I have always said that organizing international tournaments is not an easy task, and one cannot do without mistakes, even if the host is listed – altough often I don’t know why – as a competent in organizing such things. But I will not criticize indiscriminately. Now, if our plan comes true to apply for an international tournament next year ...

T.R.: Interesting news.

T.M.: Yes, and I will finish: and if our wish comes true, then we ourselves, perhaps, will understand something about why tournaments in the world are held in this way.

T.R.: So what kind of tournament?..

T.M.: Honestly, we were thinking about applying for the next IAC, and then we'll see. But everyone must understand clearly, that main thing is not submitting an application. And even not that you have to win, and this is not easy. And, perhaps, for a start, it would be nice to find a second participant who looks at things in a similar way as we see, and this may turn out to be more complicated than it seems from here and at the moment.

T.R.: And it is necessary?

T.M.: For some reason, the international community looks wart at the applications of those who have not carried out anything yet. As if the presence of someone who has played five boring and dull tournaments that look like bad training camps in the application immediately raises its overall quality.

T.R.: Well, well, this is a matter of the distant future. Let’s return to the things on hand. Last time, fate brought strangers to our rivals in IAC, but this time we are all acquaintances, right?

T.M.: Quite right. Separately, it should be noted that in the group our faithful companions-in-arms Abanhfleft, about the first match with which team the exciting film “Debuten” was shown recently – I must admit, one of the best in our cinema. Then there was one of the most interesting and distinctive teams in world football, Tequilo, plus Sannyamathland, with whom we played in the last tournament, newcomers Picksall Islands and Garbelia, debutant of the past WCQ. An interesting and unknown episode is associated with it, by the way.

T.R.: Will you tell us?..

T.M.: Without naming names: one of our venerable coaches, having learned that Garbelia was changing the head coach towards the end of the tournament, turned to the FA with a request to give him a recommendation to participate in the competition for this post, since he wants to work abroad and gain experience. We were in favor, but Garbelians resolved the issue so quickly that we are late already even before signing due papers.

T.R.: An interesting twist. Is this the only such episode?

T.M.: As far as I know, no one else has contacted the FA. Maybe someone did such things besides us, but I don't know anything about that either. If someone wanted to coach teams abroad, we’ll never put him any hurdles, and even more, if opportunity arises, we give interested coaches a notifications about opportunities. Well, in the match with Garbelia, we will not meet with anyone we know on the coach's bench.

T.R.: But at the tournament, some of the players, perhaps, will meet with friends on the field?

T.M.: Let me evade the answer. No one appreciate such a question, as if here there was not enough additional pressure from the players. Psychology is a delicate thing, let's not joke with it.

T.R.: A question from the audience: will there be players from abroad in the upcoming Trolleborg Championship?

T.M.: The issue is now in stage of being resolved. Definitely not from the first round. The intricacy and multidimensionality of the transfer system in the world is such that for now we are inclined to create a post of a transfer manager who will be able to receive and fulfill requests from our clubs and help those wishing to play abroad find a team to their liking. If we go this way, you will be the first to know from the newsflash on Trolleborg TV-sport.

T.R.: Well, thanks for the interview, good luck to our lads!

ALMUZAHARA - A few months ago, North Alezian Minister of Culture and Sports Sagan Merichenski stated that North Alezia needs to push itself further in sporting events in order to increase the country's national presence, and to increase the country's selection in source of national pride other than Figure Skating and singing competitions such as Worldvision Song Contest and the World Hit Festival. The North Alezian Football Team got assembled to be sent to Independent Associations Cup 12 held jointly by Muralos and Almuzahara.

In the first match day, North Alezia is scheduled to go against Poafmersia after a pot and draw session a few weeks earlier. For your information, North Alezia plays in Group B which means that North Alezia will play in Almuzahara, more exactly at one of three stadiums located on the city of Binsakula and Conceição. Before their departure, the team had a final in-state practice in Zafizamarrah National Stadium. With the coach, Muhammad Sa'adarim stating: "We are definitely ready to play against other countries in this cup. I'm pretty optimistic about them and I can't wait to learn from other countries on how did they do it and how can North Alezia learn from the experience".

The same optimism and excitement are shared as well within the players. Queto San Rouslavais who is the goalkeeper for the North Alezian team says in an interview: "This is definitely the best time for us to learn and play right. North Alezia definitely has potential in any sport it touches, and football is one of those sports that we need to expand further. North Alezia can do it."

Coach, check. Players, check. How about the people of North Alezia? Definitely a LARGE check. The decision by the National Football Team to play in this cup is met with applaud and positive support. For example, in ABA Channel 1's Public Opinion Show, a query was opened by Hiqa Marzukiawan, the host of the show. The query is: North Alezia Participating in Independent Associations Cup is a great idea. After one hour passes, it is found that if divided into percentages, 93% supports the opinion, and only 7% rejects the opinion. Supporters mainly base their support out of the fun of the sports, National Pride, et cetera.

The first North Alezian game will be broadcasted at 9/10 PM at ABA Channel 1, where supposedly, there are 1000 North Alezians who are members of The Galley Crew which is a fanclub for the North Alezian football team. And there are more North Alezians who are not part of the club but still would depart to Almuzahara to watch the games. And there are WAY more North Alezians watching at home soil at the comforts of their homes. All of them who has an ABA account can sign in to www.ABA.co.az/ontv/IA12 and watch the competition from there and participate in chat box prepared specifically for this match where they can discuss the match and other things, and there will be a poll which will be available to ABA interactive users as well.

Boot It!: Did Somebody Say Co-Managers?

Postby TJUN-ia » Thu Mar 25, 2021 10:09 am

Name: TJUN-ia
Trigram: TJU
Football Association: FA-TJUN-ia
Nickname: Jaguars (official)/Jags (short form)/Blue and Orange (commonly-used informal)/Draw Masters (satirical)/Team Nothing (the truth)

After a cycle many in TJUN-ia will never forget, both for the right and the wrong reasons, the Jaguars return to action for 12th IAC, shared between the nations of Almuzahara and Muralos this time around. It's The Holy Republic where we end up for our 5 group games, playing opponents both familiar and brand new at the 28,000 capacity Moonlight Coliseum in the remote city of Kuritibah. As a Pot 2 team based on IAC ranking, many will be expecting the Jags to content for the Top 2 spots in this group and reach another IAC playoffs, but a certain mystery was permeating the air: we had a bit of a change in the dugout.

After what many claimed to be the greatest WC Cycle in TJUN-ian history, the FA-TJUN-ia (led by Jackson Levi-Holt) decided to try and throw some new energy into this ageing squad by shoving TJUN-ia's gender-equal future into the present and now the backburner. Li Xiu Ying, the assistant who took a Jags team to the Quarters in their first-ever IAC, has been promoted to the top job alongside her boyfriend in Seems, meaning both TJUN-ian man and TJUN-ian woman now lead the national team for the foreseeable future. The change has been taken really well by the TJUN-ian public and with new stars entering the setup in Sub Tier 2 (CB Hwang Syong-ya and wildcard CDM Petor Szektkovsky), who knows if having 2 minds at the top of the tree will lead to greater success in the sport...

Nation: Montaña Verde

Trigram: MVE
Adjective/demonym: Verdean
Team nickname: Condors
National anthem: Me gustan los traseros grandes y no puedo mentir

Coach: Enriqueta Urrútia Cuellar (f 49)
Assistant coach: Pigmalion Perales (37)

Enriqueta was a legendary player in her day, a hard-grafting defensive midfielder who churned out tackles, marked players twice her size out of the game, and scored one goal in over 500 domestic appearances. She’s previously managed Deportivo Launia and Olimpia La Limana, and has been given the honor of becoming the first national team coach in the independent era. Somewhat volatile on the sidelines, off them she is a compulsive chain-smoker (who chews nicotine gum when in the stadium, in deference to the somewhat lax Verdean fire code). She’s well known for favoring veterans over youth prospects, which is why the teams she’s managed have tended to do well then stagnate. She’s also not one to favor meaningless skills, her own career as a merciless tackler having shown how far a player can go without having all the fancy tricks, so she has little patience for showboaters. The young Perales, her assistant, is a former striker whose career ended early through injury. More in touch with the players of today, but lacking the respect given to Enriqueta.

Squad: 23 players have been named in the squad for the tournament, and it should generally be assumed 1 – 11 will start.
  • Men and women play together in Montaña Verde. To avoid pronoun confusion, female players are marked f.
  • The league is fairly new as a result of restructuring following independence, but many of the clubs date back decades and have entrenched traditions and rivalries.
  • Fútbol is a tremendously popular sport in the country, rivalling Catholicism for the national religion, but limited overseas exposure means the standard is not especially high.
  • Speaking of not being especially high, Montaña Verde is one of the shortest [human] populations in the world. While there are one or two tall players, in general men and women are very short.
  • Players are not egregiously dirty in terms of violence or deliberate fouling, but enjoy a good tactical dive now and then.

Goalkeepers:

1. Anastasio Reyes Leiva (33) – Deportivo Launia
12. Mateo Zayas Chavarría (26) – (Scunthorpe de Puyevier)
23. Rudolf Lazzaro “Dolfo” Mojica Parra (19) – (América de Santa Margarita de Yacuija)

A dependable rather than spectacular goalkeeper, Leiva is a goal-manager who bosses about his defenders and doesn’t tend to make sloppy errors. Mateo is more aggressive, being willing to play out from his area, having a rather inflated assessment of his own footballing ability. Dolfo is lankier than either but very raw. As tall goalkeepers are few and far between in Montaña Verde his ascent has been rapid, but he has to cut down on sloppy errors before he gets a shot with the national team.

Right backs:

2. Roberta Márquez Saldana (f 24) – Francisco Teixidó
13. Leonilda Balderas Castiglione (f 23) – Calequén

Full backs in Montaña Verde tend to be judged on their attacking credentials first and foremost. Neither Roberta nor Castiglione are outstanding defenders, both being converted midfielders, but play in offensive roles for the two leading clubs in the country. Roberta is a relentless attacker, driving forward to whip in crosses, while Castiglione, who has a strong left foot as well, can cut in field and spread the ball around. Some people thing Castiglione is the better player of the two, but her party girl reputation off the field has done her no favors in comparison to the solemn Catholic Roberta who crosses herself after every goal or assist.

Left backs:

6. Justin Pedroza Sierra (24) – Requista Boys
16. Iñigo Olmo Mallén (19) – [TEQ] Juventoyan

Justin is one of the best players in the team. His strong left foot has him at left back, but he’s capable of playing anywhere on the field. A skilful dribbler with all the playground tricks, and standing quite a bit taller than his teammates, he seems to tower over everyone. What tends to let him down is his attitude. He gets into arguments with the opposition, his teammates, the referees, the fans. He’s the living embodiment of “If you get into an argument with someone, they’re an asshole; if you get into arguments with everyone, you’re the asshole”. Mallén is the first player in the history of Montaña Verde to sign for a foreign team. A pacy wing-back, he lacks a quality final touch on his passing so may find it difficult to break past Justin into the starting XI.

Center backs:

3. Edelberto Romero Gutiérrez (31) – Calequén – Captain
4. Jairo Villegas Balderas (28) – Calequén
14. Terence Agosto Soto Moreau (25) – Universidad de Montaña Verde
20. Arquímedes Hernández Velásquez (22) – Sonreté

In terms of footballing ability, the central defender corps is fairly strong relative to the rest of the team, but the main problem is physical. None of them are especially tall and although Edelberto is fairly strong, for a Verdean, they’re going to struggle against top class internationals. Jairo is a superb timer of tackles and can reliably clear the ball out – if it’s on the ground. Moreau, a true tough-tackling defender’s defender, and Arquímedes a superb passer who can play in a holding midfield role, are talents for the future behind the experienced Calequén duo.

Holding midfielders:

5. Ana-Ximena Pareja Carvallo (f 23) – [CDG] Concord Heights Suburban – Vice-captain
15. Edgar Nieves Liñares (27) – Requista Boys

Despite Enriqueta’s own background, she recognizes the game has moved on from the days of pure defensive midfielders hacking down attackers in front of the back four. Ana-Ximena and Edgar are more suited to playing a more advanced role, supporting a dynamic midfield set-up. Ana-Ximena isn’t as skilful on the ball as Edgar but has a higher work rate, impressing with her pressing, tackling, and physicality, and winning the start ‘5’ shirt once worn by Enriqueta herself. Tactical shifts could see Edgar getting playing time alongside her anyway, as he’s a better passer.

Central midfielders:

8. Kristjana Eiríksdóttir (f 24) – Deportivo Launia
11. Ángel Rafael Reyes Bregmann (32) – Francisco Teixidó
17. Cristobal Elizondo “Cristo” Díaz (20) – Francisco Teixidó
21. Emma Narváez (f 23) – Francisco Teixidó

Don’t worry, not getting any puppet strings tangled here: Kristjana is 100% Verdean except for her name, reflecting her background in the tiny minority Græntfjaller population. She plays alongside Bregmann in the center, but they have different roles: she’s more of a distributor and uses her flying pace to whip out to the wings, while he holds down a relentless box-to-box role pressing everywhere and quickly offloading to open up rapid attacks. Cristo Díaz doesn’t quite have Bregmann’s physical presence yet and Emma isn’t as methodical in her passing as Kristjana but both are enterprising prospects with great speed.

Attacking midfielders:

10. Thomás “Primitivo” Ceballos Cantú (20) – Scunthorpe de Puyevier
18. Sara Ariadna Nazario Alonzo (f 23) – Águilas Octarinas

There’s nothing “primitive” about the play of the young Scunthorpe midfield general. He’s being asked to play a little higher than he would for his club here, but the skilful Primitivo has earned it. Bigger than most of his teammates, his strong physicality can be deceptive as he has a silky touch off both feet. And watch out for his wicked curling strikes if there’s a free-kick in the vicinity of goal. Sara Ariadna is a bit of an enigma, not quite the pace of a striker but not quite the complete skills of a central midfielder, prone to some impulsive actions on and off the field.

Forwards:

7. Teodosio “Osito” Orellana Cerda (19) – Olimpia La Limana
9. Thiago Rivas Montilla (30) – [GRÆ] Fliserboding
19. Naomí Berrocal Encarnación (f 22) – [CDG] Concord Heights Suburban
23. Isabel Páez Gálvez (f 26) – [CDG] Brattleboro Westside

The young Osito is a huge target man. It’s still not entirely clear he’s not two regular sized Verdeans wearing a trenchcoat. He’s mainly a goal-scorer, not all that good at assisting and rarely tracking back, but an obvious target for crosses and through balls. Thiago Montilla is a more rounded player without a really sharp finishing touch. He floats just behind Osito and just ahead of Primitivo to set up the attacks; he’s very short but powerful and stocky. Isabel is a true “9”, a fiercely competitive goal-scorer with a brash side, and Naomí is a dynamic wing player who can run, pass, and shoot. Both have ambitions to start, and have moved to Cassadaigua to push those ambitions forward.

Trigram: SRS
Captain: Iuri Takala
Vice Captain: Walda Harkhan
Manager: Anne-Sophie Groothuis (OME)
In the conversation among Omericans as her homeland's most successful national team manager, Groothuis has gotten off to a respectable start with the Black-and-Reds. It's obviously far too early to talk about her place in the history of this national team's history of managers, with just six competitive matches on her resume so far. With three wins, a draw (won in the penalty shootout) and two losses on the record, together with one friendly victory, she helped this team reach their first quarterfinal since IAC 8. While she never managed to get Omerica to the World Cup finals, something the SCFA would dearly like to see her accomplish with the Black-and-Reds, even merely raising them to the level that she reached with Omerica would be a welcome change from the disorder and decline the team has gone through under Zaman and Tamela. To this point, her version of the Black-and-Reds has displayed a sturdy back line, and a fluid, creative attack, though the latter still has yet to show the consistency she would surely like to see. A flexible and disciplined tactician, Anne-Sophie is known to favor a moderately attack-minded approach, but is unafraid to mix things up from time to time in order to keep opponents guessing.

Independent Associations Championship 12 Roster
n.b. - all players are one year older here than they would be according to my current domestic season reckoning. Try not to worry about it.

Goalkeepers
Stovar Krieven - Image North Laithland - 35 y/o - He/Him
Of the many Confederates who have taken their talents abroad, Krieven is definitely one of the success stories. Leaping from floundering Interblag to the Nepharim Premiership, he spent two years with Bishop, being relegated the first, and earned himself an offer from North Laithland, who have established themselves as a consistently mid-table club of late. As a keeper, he is known for his athleticism and, increasingly, his *ahem* enthusiastic and outspoken communication with his defense. If nothing else, the back line will be very clear on what his expectations of them are.

Hekima Drenel - Image Lublova Reds - 28 y/o - She/Her
A big part of Lublova's surprisingly strong finish was Drenel's play in her debut season with the club. Stealing her away from Emerald Coast was an inspired decision, and her dependable shot-stopping was a crucial piece of support to give the Reds the freedom to employ more creative attacking tactics.

Paiva Shimski - Image Sporting Jaglan - 22 y/o - She/Her
Shimski has emerged over the past two seasons as a talented young shot-stopper on a team that has not, historically, put great emphasis on defense. Her distribution needs some work, but her instincts are good and her booming goal kicks allow plenty of time for attackers to get under them. The Rebels' abysmal showing this season was definitely not her fault.

Left Backs
Valda Harkhan - Image South Laithland - 26 y/o - She/Her
The less famous twin sister of center back Walda Harkhan, Valda made her mark on Brasta's back line before making a big move to the Zenith. Harkhan has developed into a well-rounded fullback, as capable defending against opposing wingers as she is carrying the ball forward and joining the attack. She shares her sister's surprising strength in a small frame, and adds to it a serious case of chip-on-the-shoulder and a playing style best described as "angry."

Bruenna Savo - Image AFC Corvistone - 33 y/o - She/Her
Savo has been a capable depth defender with Corvistone for several seasons now. Her capability of playing on either side of the back line makes her an excellent resource either on the bench or on the field.

Right Backs
Reuter Storsjo - Image Traal Athletics - 29 y/o - He/Him
Storsjo, unlike a series of center backs, has stuck around at Traal. He is a two-way player, but tends slightly conservative, careful to get back and defend when necessary. He's been a fixture on the back line since breaking out during WC85 qualifying.

Taisiya Achthoven - Image Yassaca - 26 y/o - She/Her
Achthoven is also a defensive-minded full back. She's used to playing in a pretty conservative back line at Yassaca, but has the skill set to move up the field when needed.

Center Backs
Walda Harkhan - Image Yassaca - 26 y/o - She/Her
Harkhan (not to be confused with her twin sister Valda) is a complete defender with a strength on and off the ball that belies her small stature. Her vertical leap leaves taller players astonished. If she can be faulted for anything, it's being a bit overeager on challenges and too hopeful on outlet passes trying to launch counterattacks. She's a perennial contender for Defender of the Season when Superleague awards are handed out.

Svenja Baste - Image Stahlburg City - 27 y/o - She/Her
After a few seasons anchoring the back line for Creed United, Baste has moved onward and a bit upward to assume the same role for Stahlburg for a more reliable chance to play in the Zenith each season. She was always an impressive athlete, and has now tempered that raw potential with experience in one of the toughest leagues in the multiverse.

Ljuba Buczvarov - Image René Skaé - 23 y/o - She/Her
Playing center back in the Shango-Fogoa Premier league is not an easy task, any more than doing so in the Farf league system prior to the new, multiassociational league's formation. Earning a starting role in one's early twenties on a team that consistently challenges to win the league is even more impressive. Lublova absolutely picked wrong in letting Buczvarov go.

Aryel Ciernik - Image Algolia - 26 y/o - She/Her
Not quite the same level of precocious that Harkhan has been, Ciernik is nonetheless a solid player on Algolia's back line, and a fearless tackler. Despite her penchant for collisions, she has thus far shown just enough restraint to avoid picking up as many cards as you might expect. The two of them playing as defense partners for years to come is a prospect that should give some hope to weary Confederate fans.

Defensive Midfielders
Shrike Hagaz - Image Leichhardt - 33 y/o - He/Him
Prior to IAC10, Hagaz had not appeared for the Black-and-Reds since World Cup 83 Qualifying. An unapologetic midfield enforcer, his style of play, though it served him well in Westpike's midfield setup, did not suit the more fluid 4-3-3 that manager at the time Bethany Donnell employed, nor those of her successors. With the shift to Groothuis's favored 4-2-3-1, however, Hagaz's skills were needed once again.

Selvala Tabur - Image Torpedo Pavlograd - 27 y/o - She/Her
Like Hagaz, Tabur is most at home in a holding role. Unlike his brute force approach to the position, Tabur plays with finesse, making containing and dispossessing opponents into something more like a ballet step than a tackle. Don't get things wrong though, she's no pushover, and can bring the physicality when needed.

Center Midfielders
Iuri Takala - Image Megabrantid SC - 30 y/o - He/Him
While Takala now has considerable competition for the title of best center mid in the SCFA, his main rivals for that title are not in the running to play for the Black-and-Reds. He is primarily an attacking-minded player, though he still has the stamina to play box-to-box.

Mithya Hashemi - Image Anomalies - 23 y/o - She/Her
Hashemi was regarded as a good prospect coming out of Jaglan, but not a world beater. She surprised a lot of people by putting in a very classy performance with Anomalies, winning the Red League, and being named a runner up for both Young Player of the Year, and outright Player of the Year. Anomalies haven't always found things quite as easy as they did in her first couple seasons with the club, but they remain a force in the Red League, and Hashemi's all around play is a big part of that.

Isperia Marrish - Image AFC Corvistone - 25 y/o - She/Her
With Season 5 Young Player of the Year and a spot on the corresponding Young Galacticos longlist to her name, Marrish established herself as a rising star in Confederate football years ago, and has delivered on that potential. A clever, crisp passer, she has yet to establish herself as a significant scoring threat, but will have more opportunity to work on that part of her game now that she's moved out from under Takala's shadow at MSC. Since her big move to Corvistone, the team has had a bit of a down season, but there's definitely hope she can help lead them to the IFCF once again.

Damnagoras - Image 1093 Club de Football Atlantea - 20 y/o - He/Him
Just how important Damnagoras was to Han Dold City's attack has been revealed by how miserably they've done this season without him. He is a skilled center forward, with solid technique and a natural sense for distribution.

Left Midfielders
Jzeovak Vladcik - Image Admiral Storevik - 30 y/o - He/Him
Also comfortable playing at left forward or striker, Vladcik is enjoying a career renaissance of sorts. Having won the SFS with Admiral, he's back in vogue with the national team, and still has many years of football ahead of him. He scores goals and crosses in the air or along the ground. The main thing he doesn't do as well is defend.

Lavanya Naqvi - Image Mâ Âlâmëómë - 30 y/o - She/Her
A natural left midfielder, Naqvi is a superb technician, but perhaps hangs on to the ball a little too long for Confederate tastes, something her new club don't mind in the slightest.

Right Midfielders
Naiva Storrev - Image Newrook City - 30 y/o - She/Her
Storrev spent three seasons confounding fullbacks with Orient in Brenecia, and earned herself a big move and a payday from Newrook in Nephara. She's an excellent dribbler and shooter, and excels at making runs from wide into the box, both with and without the ball.

Ikra Yonte - Image Burnaby SC - 24 y/o - She/Her
A speedy, direct winger. Didn't really break out and make a name for herself until moving to Burnaby from Ulyanof, but she has thrived there earning a spot on the most recent team of the season.

Strikers
Lyzolda Petrov - Image Sabrefell Moths - 29 y/o - She/Her
Petrov is a complete striker with no major weaknesses, unless one were to fault her on a possible lack of sheer physical bulk. Fast, accurate, with good instincts and a nice turn of skill on the ball. She might not be the best in any one area, but she's the complete package. If anyone is carrying this team, it's her. Leading scorer of the final season of the Nepharan Premiership, first XI Galactico, she's the real deal.

Kaalia Gerstlauer - Image Blacklake Blues - 28 y/o - She/Her
Falling out of national team consideration after being mired mid-table with Royals, Gerstlauer's star is back on the rise after establishing herself as a perennial Golden Boot contender with freewheeling Blacklake. In that striker's paradise, Gerstlauer has been able to refine her dribble-heavy style quite a bit, and is definitely a much more well-rounded player than when she first came on the scene at the tender age of 19.

Brion Stienno - Image Shearwater - 29 y/o - He/Him
Three seasons ago, Stienno was the big, splashy sale, heading from Emerald Coast to Burnaby for three and a half mil. He promptly blew out his knee, missed the entire season, and was sold to Shearwater for pennies on the dollar. Slowly, painfully, he has worked his way back, and his resurgence has been in parallel with a climb up the table by Shearwater. While his right knee isn't the same as it was before his injury, he is still a very active striker on and off the ball, and creates really problems for defenses attempting to man mark.

General Background
The Imperium of Squornshelous is a proud and ancient nation, extant for an indeterminate number of years, early records being largely lost to the mists of time. It made its debut in World Cup 5, and continued to participate in every edition from that time until World Cup 41. In the wake of that tournament, anti-government demonstrations spiraled out of control into a civil war which resulted in the country being split in half. The Eastern half remained under the Imperium, while the Western half reorganized itself as the Confederacy of Squornshelan Remnant States. At present, the Imperium exists at a cyberpunk tech level in a pocket dimension consisting solely of itself. It is not wholly unlike the Dreamed Realm, except for the part where it is wholly unlike the Dreamed Realm. More of a nightmare, really. A history of inexplicable temporal and spatial phenomena suggests that this may not be a permanent situation. At present, the Imperium has had great difficulty coaxing its technology into functionality when beyond the bounds of this pocket dimension. As a result, the national team was initially assembled from members of a fringe group within Imperial society. This Luddite religious sect consider cybernetic implants to be anathema, and as a result, suffer no ill effects from the abrupt cessation of function of such implants when leaving the country. While certainly not up to the standards of old, this hastily assembled team during World Cup 84 qualifying and at the ensuing Cup of Harmony were respectable enough that the team was brought back intact for the following cycle with one notable exception. Striker Lyyti Vang, who led the team in goals during qualifying, vanished following the team's final match at the Cup of Harmony. No information on her current whereabouts has been made public in the Imperium, though some media outlets introduced the notion that she was abducted by a terrorist organization. (ooc:those in the wider multiverse may be aware that she fled the country and was granted asylum in the Squornshelan Remnant States, where she is now playing club football for Sporting Jaglan)
Since the conclusion of Cycle 86, continuing work by Imperial neurosurgeons and cyberneticists has still yet to yield the secret which will allow Squornshelan tech to function outside the Imperium. They have, however, developed therapies to lessen the withdrawal affects on those who employ such implants, opening the door to the possibility that implanted players might realistically be able to participate. This would present an obvious advantage for the Imperium at home matches, and the legality of such under the WCC is uncertain at best. Still, an expanded player pool for qualifying has been named for the first time, and the Ministry of Sport has released more information on the players than ever before. Hopefully this will quiet the plaintive mewling of foreign journalists.

Recent Events
One year has passed since the event that has become known to some as Liberation Day. Regarded by many as a mere nuisance who did little more than organize occasional protests, the left wing, antiauthoritarian group known as the Alliance for a New Confederacy (NewCon for short) launched coordinated raids on covert detention centers across the nation. Thousands of political prisoners and captured NewCon operatives were freed. This action coincided with a message to the nation using the government's own emergency broadcast system. The message was brief, just a couple minutes, and nearly completed its second repetition before being cut off. In short, it called for Squornshelan citizens everywhere to lift their eyes up from their daily grind, to witness what they country truly was, and to join NewCon in doing something about it. Simultaneously, major changes within the government were taking place. High Minister Oleg Fedotenko was deposed, tried for crimes against the Imperium and executed. The Emperor, Girma Zeta, abdicated his position, and in a surprising move, named former Minister of Sport Sweyn Petrov as his successor. Petrov quickly appointed Bjarni Riihijarvi as High Minister. The government has attempted to downplay the suddenness of this transition of power, and vociferously denies any allegations of a coup. Petrov, a much more visible presence as Emperor than his predecessor, has emphasized that he wishes nothing more than for life to continue as normal. Since that time, NewCon strikes both physical and electronic on military and law enforcement installations, infrastructure, and government offices have become commonplace. Thousands and thousands of citizens have been detained, but nothing the government does seems to stop the onslaught. Desertion from the military is at its highest rate since the War, and people whisper that many of those who leave are not simply going home, but joining NewCon. Whatever the Emperor might insist, life in the Imperium is anything but normal.

About Omerica
National anthem: “Hymn of the Avonian Martyrs” (Anglian versionGallic version)
Association code: OME
IAC ranking: 17th (5.907)
All-time record: 170–88–136 (43.1% win rate; 1.52 points per game)
Independent Associations Championship record: 19–8–10 (51.4% win rate; 1.76 points per game)
Record under Alexis Stephanidis: 29–14–9 (55.8% win rate; 1.94 points per game)
[Results from amateur and youth selections are excluded.]
Staff
Manager: Alexis Stephanidis (age 54; b. Brétolles-de-l’Ouest, Westavon)
Former manager of Malavan Club de Romainbourg, Alexis Stephanidis is a tactician in the traditional vein of Omerican football, searching for redemption in light of her ignominious exit from the former Omerican champions. Stephanidis is a managerial idealist who believes in the time-honoured tradition of “the best defence is a good offence” and whose sides are known for their flair and (outside trips to Cobrio) for coming in “clutch”. Rebuilding Malavan from their failed campaign to qualify for the OPSL Premier Division—winning an OPSL Second Division title, a Federation Cup and a OPSL Challenge Cup in the process—and winning Andreaskruis promotion in the Second Division playoffs cements her place as the manager to rebuild confidence in the national team.

Assistant Manager: Christina Tedesco (age 48; b. Kingsmouth, Mespalia)
A close associate of previous Omerica manager George Kostas, Christina Tedesco survived the mass staff cull that ensued after Omerica’s home soil collapse at IAC X. Tedesco took over from Kostas during the second half of World Cup 85 qualifying, managing the Incorrigibles to a better-than-expected 4–4–4 record, giving Stephanidis and the Federation the confidence to keep her around. Rumours that she might be the second coming of Ryan Pritchard are considered more dubious.

Fitness coach: Jean-Pierre Marchetti
Goalkeeping coach: Stéphane Rousseau
Medical lead: Tahira Bousaid
Physical therapists: Alexandria Stavros and Christiane Michaud

Hot Skitty on Wailord Action Soccer presents
The Official Hot Skitty on Wailord Action Selection
If you are looking for a team that likes playing beautiful attacking soccer, Hot Skitty on Wailord Action (HSOWA) is not for you. Hot Skitty players prefer the tactic of doing whatever is within their power to keep you from scoring and claiming a set piece to lock away the win later. Possession is key to the Hot Skitty playbook, with stellar defending a close second. If you do get the ball, however, expect a swarm of players ready to pry that ball away from you by whatever means possible. And for the love of the Helix Fossil, do not cede penalties to HSOWA. That will not end well.

Reçueçn Roster & National Information

Image
Sporting History

Reçueçn had just barely been in the World Cup long enough for people not to ask 'who?' on hearing the name, when it began to slip once more toward irrelevancy. The nation has had fewer opportunities than most to make forays into the world of international football. It Reçueçn debuted in the 59th Baptism of fire, before the 72nd World Cup, but accomplished very little before disappearing from international football for 10 cycles. However on its return, it made the most out of the chances it got.

During Reçueçn's absence from national sport in the interim, domestic sport in Reçueçn fell into disarray as well. Only semi-recently did things change, when a young legislative staffer named Jean-Luc Lassalle began an initiative to resurrect organized sport in the country with the government's assistance. The result of this push was the creation of the brand new Reçuecian Ministry of Sport, which promptly reorganized domestic association football leagues throughout the country and got things moving once more. Lassalle himself became the new Minister of Sport, despite his young age.

For the national team, this meant involvement once more in international competition. Reçueçn's first chance to declare its return came at the 7th Independent Associations' Championship. To the surprise of everyone, including its own fans, the unranked Reçuecian national team managed to win 3rd place, taking home its first silverware of any kind. The team itself largely consisted of the same squad that had partaken in the Baptism of Fire and World Cup qualifiers all of 10 World Cup cycles ago.

The team had struggled back then, due to the rivalries within Reçuecian domestic football, and those old wounds came back with the reestablishment of the national team. During the Baptism of Fire and Reçueçn's first international competitions, the players hadn't really had enough experience playing with each other to develop the necessary camaraderie or team spirit. Hopes were high that the creation of the Ministry of Sport would herald in a new era. Since the team was largely the same, some of the rivalries came back at first, but the team's performance at IAC 7 smoothed over its troubles and the team gelled.

Riding high on their third place finish in the IAC, the Reçuecians launched into their first qualification attempt since World Cup 73. This time, things were different: still officially unranked, Reçueçn miraculously managed to qualify for the world cup in its first attempt, even making it as far as the Round of 16. Reçueçn's first-time qualification and its consistent qualification since then is most likely the sporting accomplishment for which the nation is most known. The nation returned to the IAC even stronger and more confident; this time it knew what it was capable of, and it was hosting to boot. In its second IAC, Reçueçn got everything it could want: victory at home.

After that, the Reçuecians held steady but failed to make any meaningful advances. The nation didn't advance past the round of sixteen in either the IAC or the World Cup in either of the next two cycles. However, at the last IAC, things fell apart. With only a single victory in the first round, Les Licornes finished second-last in their group, a result that was dubbed a 'national embarassment' by Reçuecian news outlets. It was only the beginning of a downhill tumble: after coming second in its WC 87 group and losing its playoff to Pasarga, Reçueçn failed to make it to the World Cup for the first time since its return to soccer. National Coach Jacques Tremblay announced his retirement at the end of the cycle, and this IAC will be the first time the team enters a tournament without him. Each of the last several tournaments, the goal has been to 'turn things around,' but this is more important now than ever, with world cup qualification no longer assured. The IAC has been a predictor of Reçueçn's World Cup performance ever since it first joined the Independents' Cup, both through the nation's early and meteoric rise, and it's equally rapid decline. The stakes, therefore, are as high as they've ever been for the Reçuecians in this tournament.

All time record: 104-45-47

National Team Information

L'Équipe Nationale de Reçueçn de Football is still in the process of making a name for itself, but if it's known for anything, it would be for its defensive style. This is partly due to the large influence of Reçueçn FC on the team—the most popular domestic club in Reçueçn plays about as defensive a game as you can imagine. This is balanced out to some extent by the players from other teams with more attacking philosophies, but the league as a whole tends towards defense, and it shows in the national team. Furthermore, Gerauld Firaut, the team's #1 goalie, is the best player on the team by a solid margin—without a doubt, Reçueçn's first world-class player. He and his defense form the foundation for the team as a whole.

The team plays in a 4-3-3 formation, but sometimes the wings drop back, almost making it a 4-5-1. In general, the team's strategy and tactics are solid. However, the team is in managerial upheaval at the moment after the shock resignation of its head coach, Jacques Tremblay. Tremblay had guided the team ever since its Baptism of Fire, but was also very old. He had prepared for stepping down by appointing Bonheur Relié as assistant coach, whose fiery personality contrasted Tremblay's gentler wisdom. Tremblay was always more popular with the players than Relié, and now that he is gone, the team may once again struggle to coalesce.

The Reçueçian National Team's mascot is the unicorn; thus another name for the team is "les licornes". The fantastical creature has been a symbol of Reçueçn for almost two millennia and is also the national animal, appearing as the supporters in the national coat of arms.

The team's kit represents the colors of the flag in a quite literal fashion. The jersey was redesigned a few cycles ago, replacing the first one les licornes ever wore, dating back to the 59th Baptism of Fire. Fans who thought the old outfit ugly are excited to see the team play wearing its new uniforms, and feel that they are now represented much more professionally.

Reçueçn has only one stadium in which its national team plays, located in the capital city (also named Reçueçn). Never having been given an official title, the national stadium is usually simply referred to just that: The National Stadium, or in French, the local language, the Stade Nationale. Capacity: 30,000.

Apologies for any inconsistencies concerning ages or current clubs for Reçuecians currently playing abroad; refer to information from their respective leagues if it differs.

Coaching Staff
=Bonheur Relié: Passionate and motivated, Relié had all the youthful energy you'd hope for in the assistant coach of a side whose manager was pushing three quarters of a century. Sometimes his energy was a bit much and he's had some friction with the players in the past. Now that he's head manager that will have to be resolved.

Ägidius Heissler: Used to play as a left wing for Itrino. After retiring as a player he signed for the National Team as Paraclete, taking a promotion to Assistant Manager in the wake of Tremblay's resignation. If Relié was the bad cop to Tremblay's good cop, with Tremblay gone, Heissler fills the good cop role.

Starters
Gerauld Firaut: The face of Reçuecian football. Mature, talented, humble. Firaut, team captain, provides the leadership on the pitch that les licornes need, and the fact that he's such a nice guy when he's not playing soccer helps cement him as the nation's favored son. As some of his Reçueçn FC have retired or not been called up for this tournament, his exceptional goal-tending skills combined with Tremblay's strategy has preserved the team's defensive nature.

Emanuele Cutrona: Cutrona was in the first batch of call-ups for the National Team after the original Baptism of Fire squad, and he's still one of the younger players on the team. Until Di Martino's call-up, he was the only Italian-speaking player on the team (although others are from Italian-speaking clubs). He's developed a strong friendship with Franky Adams, which often leads to the pair of them getting in trouble.

Paulin Bourguignon: Bourguignon is the kind of defensive player who is always trying to clear the ball with long shots and score goals at corner kicks. Big on counter-attacks, he sometimes outpaces the mid-fielders, usually to his coach's dismay.

Lukas Kayserling: Very tall. Calm and controlled. Sometimes has difficulty communicating as he doesn't speak English or French as well as most of the other team members.

Oliver Spencer: Annother star defensive player, now playing for Brinemouth, Spencer is often outshone by Firaut, and for a long time Spencer couldn't decide whether the rivalry he thought they had was more important than team spirit or not. By now he has found his groove as part of the all-important back line.

Raoul Lavigne: No relation of the slightly more well-known Hippolyte Lavigne, Raoul is the second sophomore of the team: not one of the original squad but not a brand-new call-up either. He caught the NT's scouts' eyes after helping Bonneville Sportif to a couple good seasons. (He now plays in Baker Park.) Playing outside the nation has given him new things to worry about, namely, if his teammates leave him out of things since he's not a 'local' anymore. He doesn't realize how ridiculous his fears are, but fortunately they push him to prove himself every time he steps onto the field.

Harold Saunders: Saunders is synonymous with an aggressive style of play, especially in the midfield. He seems to always be able to find a way to give the ball to Franky. On and off the field he is emotionally well-balanced, usually rather stoic and unmoved.

Maynard Hebron: The unsung hero of the Assalto Alpino, Hebron is a great proponent of football development across Recuecn, especially on behalf of the smaller amateur teams that have recently joined the FNRF. Hebron often gets lucky with long shots from the edge of the box when the strikers are unable to really get open right in front of goal.

Per Tegeler: Good at receiving the ball from the defense or mid-field, trapping it in general, and taking it into the 18-yard box and shooting. Possible weakness is passing: either he doesn't, or it's long air balls. Per is the big change to the line-up since the world cup—the aging Hippolyte Lavigne was not called up again, and so now Tegeler is starting.

Frank "Franky" Adams: Young, extremely talented, and rather cocky, Franky, who plays for Association Genève in the LNRF, really makes their team. When he has a bad shooting streak, his team has a losing streak, and vice versa, and he knows it. At Association Genève, the team and the fans love him. At the national team, they tolerate him—his rivalries with Reçueçn FC's players cause tension which Coach Tremblay must try to defuse. Tremblay, incidentally, thinks Franky is a bit conceited, although he is still one of the most aware of his talent. Franky is definitely the second most famous player on the team, at least to Reçueians. His role up front helps with that, obviously.

Freeman Lebo: Lebo can score goals, is highly motivated, and persevering. He's comfortable in the striker role. However, he is high-strung and not too difficult to offend, traits which, when combined with his overestimation of his own skill, can make him difficult to get along with. Has lots of potential when a manager can get him to swallow his pride, and Tremblay usually can. Lebo and Franky got off to a rocky start but since then they've really meshed well, and they give each other great service often leading to one of them scoring.

Reserves
Estienne de Chefderue: Both of les licornes' reserve goalies were recently replaced, and de Chefderue got the number one number two spot. A couple seasons ago at FC Harrim he did well, and he got some practice in the Eagles Cup when Tremblay subbed him into a lot of matches. It remains to be seen how he'll fare in a tournament that means a bit more as since then he still hasn't seen a lot of time on the pitch.

Hagen Groos: A Reçueçn FC representative, yet again: Groos is sweeper for the club, which is supposedly the best in the country. It's probably confusing for him then why the starting sweeper position is handed to the younger Cutrona rather than him.

Jayson Compton: Not a ton to say about Jayson Compton. He's a mysterious fellow and we don't quite know what he's up to ourselves.

Quirino Lucian: Lucian has the look of a rugby player, and he'll take all the intimidation he can get from that: he needs people to know he's not afraid to muscle them down as they approach his goal—because he's not. He'll mess you up.

Barnabus Mercer: Called up for the first time at twenty-seven years old after doing very well in le championnat, some people questioned this decision of Tremblay's. Certainly it was the strongest on paper, so we'll see how it pans out. If you can believe it, Mercer played for a San Lleran club team more than ten world cups ago.

Robert Chéreau: Chéreau's biggest issue is that he tends to drift toward the center when he shouldn't, yet he ironically seems to have a very good idea of space and where to be in it, which is good for a player in his position.

Grégoire Leclair: Leclair almost never plays at the same time as Saunders. Usually, one is subbed for the other depending on whether more defensive or offensive tactics are called for at the moment. Leclair's specialty is going back and clearing the ball in difficult situations. There were thoughts Leclair wouldn't be called up this year, which would've been major news, but I guess he's been doing well enough in Savojarna for Tremblay.

Quentin Gouin: The team's new youngest player, he has breath and speed and agility. The stamina is sometimes lacking.

Marc Schöner: Schöner is the latest call-up, replacing Tegeler on the bench now that Tegeler is starting. He's fresh from winning le championnat with his club (Stomford 1904), so he's got all the energy and drive you could ask for, along with all the pride and self-assuredness.

Ly Nasser: Loves to shoot from far out, and often shoots high. Despite this, he makes up for it with his sheer number of shots. Incredibly aggressive, and loved by Zimmerich fans. Thinks he is one of the best strikers in the world, and he certainly is a good player. Weirdly he gets put on the Reçuecian reserves, you'd expect him to be playing with Lebo and Franky.

Jean-Baptiste Brochard: Immensely fast, especially with the ball, Brochard is weaker in set pieces and organized attacks. His strength is the counter-attack and the breakaway.

Calanico Di Martino: Unfortunately Di Martino's given name doesn't quite just mean 'soccer,' although it is close. His parents must have known there was something special about him. He has a toe that moves with wings—useful for delivering powerful goal kicks but perhaps wasted on a player who never gets to shoot.

Reçuecian History and Culture

The nation of Reçueçn was created in the first half of the XIVth century, when Carl Blancpic, Duke of the Duchy of Reçueçn, launched a breakneck military campaign invading and annexing many of his neighbors to the east. Before this time, Reçueçn had been only a city, built on the heights overlooking the junction of the Rhône and Saône rivers. These heights had been settled by Carl Blancpic's distant ancestor, Ifheda Rcuecn, near the end of the IInd century a.d., and had born his name ever since. The area at that time belonged to the Roman Empire, who had established their regional administrative center, Lugdunum, on the other side of the river.

In 197 a.d., a decisive battle was fought near Lugdunum in one of the civil wars for the throne of the empire. The victor, Septimius Severus, razed the city of Lugdunum and destroyed it, stripping from it all imperial privileges in punishment for supporting his rival. This was the end for Lugdunum, but it was the beginning for Reçueçn. Refugees flocked across the river to join the settlement, and the city of Reçueçn grew to become a smallish regional center. Rcuecn's descendants (who changed the spelling to Reçueçn) maintained control over what became the Duchy of Reçueçn for 700 years, until it was inherited by their cousins the Blancpics who reigned for another 300 years.

At the beginning of the XIVth century, power passed into the hands of Carl Blancpic, who was partially insane and a megalomaniac. Thus he declared his duchy to be a kingdom and singled out weak neighbors who he invaded with audacity. Over an incredibly short period of time beginning in the spring of 1337, he had carved out for himself a sizable dominion.

Carl, who styled himself "Carl III of Reçueçn", was violent, unstable, and petty. He was also wildly unpopular with the populations of the various states he had conquered. Although the central power structure helped the economy of the new Kingdom of Reçueçn to some extent, it did not bring with it all the stability that might have been expected. This was mostly due to the decrees of Carl III, who, among other things, began a campaign to persecute and kill all "heretics" within his new realm. Most historians agree that this was in fact a thinly veiled purge of his political rivals. This and other policies he enacted on his whims finally drove the people into open revolt sometime around 1352.

Carl managed to hold on to power for a couple years by hiring mercenaries, but in 1254 lost two key battles and was captured by the rebels. By this time, the rebellion was led by feudal lords throughout the country who had sided with the people against their tyrant king. Carl III was executed, and the kingdom dissolved into a mess of tiny, independent feudal holdings.

No sooner had the various states that had been in the Kingdom of Reçueçn won their independence, than infighting broke out among them. The feudal lords squabbled over power and influence, trying vainly to imitate Carl's meteoric rise to power. This new violence, combined with the economic downturn associated with the rebellion and the breakup of the nation, clearly displayed how poorly things were turning out. More sensible minds came to the decision that the solution was to once more unify Reçueçn.

On November 19, 1356, therefore, The Allied States of Reçueçn came into being. The leaders of all the petty states, duchies, bishoprics, free cities, etc., came together and signed what are known as "The Treaties of the Alliance," a document just powerful enough to classify Reçueçn as a single nation by most people's definition, rather than a group of independent entities. The treaties also established a rough form of democracy, with each state represented (although typically by its aristocracy). Thus Reçueçn lays claim to being one of the oldest democracies in the world.

The treaties defined much of Reçuecian history to come. Provisions were made to establish freedom of religion, in order to avoid another scenario similar to Carl III's persecution of his opponents. The treaties also gave Reçueçn an isolationist bent. The nation had been burned before, and wouldn't soon try to meddle in external affairs, especially when its composite nature made creating a foreign policy so difficult.

Reçueçn, then, has managed to avoid many of the crises of European history. It's darkest moment came when Napoleon invaded, proclaiming himself emperor (although he allowed Reçueçn's government to continue to function under his reign). The allied states have drawn closer together, although cultural differences remain among them; they don't even all speak the same language.

Reçueçian culture has also been shaped by its location, nestled in the center of the Alps. The difficulty of travel among mountain valleys ensured the cultural diversity of the nation and preserved local customs. Although rural communities did center around agriculture—especially dairy production—many Reçuecian were forced by the lack of arable land to find other work. This led to a culture of innovation that continues today: Reçueçn is now known for its luxury products and technological exports. This has additionally led to a focus on science and education. The relatively diverse nature of Reçueçn's culture means that some areas are culturally more time-oriented while others are more task-oriented, but this fusion has given the country a uniqueness, especially in art. Reçueçn, perhaps thanks to its inland, mountainous location, or the fact that it was never a colonial power, has seen little immigration or emigration. Recently, however, the diversity of language spoken in the country has made it attractive to refugees from other areas where those languages are spoken.
