Exactly the reason the Italian government is the perfect place for it, of course

I don't know if they are covid denialist in Italy like in other european countries.
covid denialism is such a bizarre phenomenon that it warrants its own political science studies once the whole thing settles down. In the US, we have Trump and the religious right, in Brazil, it’s Bolsonaro’s far right band, in Mexico, it’s AMLO’s left wing populist faction, in India, it’s Modi’s opposition claiming he invented the coronavirus, in Nepal, its ruling communist party claims that masks are a "tool," and in Indonesia, all of the parties collectively withheld acknowledging the spread of the virus

Conserative Morality wrote:"It's not time yet" is a tactic used by reactionaries in every era. "It's not time for democracy, it's not time for capitalism, it's not time for emancipation." Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

My hypothesis is after the Roman Empire fell, the blow to Italian pride was so demoralizing that the people of the peninsula stopped giving a shit and they haven't given a shit since, which is why covid aid took forever to reach the south, why Mussolini couldn't fight the war against Greece alone and why every Italian government collapses inevitably into infighting.

How is he even still in office ?
I was wondering this too, it feels like only a few years ago he gambled wrong and lost the premiership? (Am I making that up?) Having not followed Italian politics especially closely since then, how the hell did he pull off this comeback?

Well, they had a pretty good run during the Renaissance. Still corrupt and chaotic, but cultured as fuck.
