Sylestone consolidate third with win over Krytenia

Postby Sylestone » Sun Nov 01, 2020 8:56 pm

It seems as though rivals Ethane and us, Sylestone, are fighting for one of the two spots in the quarterfinals from Group B. Darmen are four wins from four games and looking likely to come first in the group. Us and Ethane have one loss each and are on six points. Although Krytenia and Sajnur still have a chance, with two wins, they rely on us to drop our next games. Sajnur is playing us next Matchday in what seems to be a very important one for both sides. No.1 ranked West Phoenicia are also still mathematically in with a chance, but it is so slim that we shouldn't need to really worry about them. We still have to play them, though, and they will be a huge challenge. But Sylestone has given themselves good chance at progression and now all they need to do is back it up against Sajnur and West Phoenicia. We shall see what happens.

Krytenia won the toss and elected to bat first. They backed the choice up with a strong opening partnership between Shelton Schneller and Ryan Watling. They put on 76 in 9 overs before Broughton Hall was brought into the attack. Immediately he made a breakthrough. On his very first ball, Schneller stepped back to a slider which raced through, under the bat and onto the pad. It was so plumb the umpire nearly had his finger up before the appeal began. And this was just the start. Fenn failed to get going before he edged the ball into Tiati's gloves. 2/91 at the end of the twelfth over was a solid starting platform, especially with Watling not out on 46 off 35 balls. Unfortunately for Krytenia, though, the pressure remained on as the usually hard-hitting Diego Aquino only managed 2 runs off 9 balls as the runs completely dried up. Watling finally passed fifty and accelerated with Udall, pushing the score up to 3/154 after Krytenia's 20 overs. It was a superb bowling performance by Broughton Hall, backed up by the fielding, which gave them a good chance at a win.

Sylestone's innings got off to the worst possible start. After hitting two runs off the second ball of the innings, Tiati fell to the fifth. Cocrine came to the crease and smashed the last ball for four to start what would be a brilliant innings. Monteane fell on the fifth ball of the second over and on the last, Lovatovic produced a peach to bowl Fomleya for a golden duck. Sylestone were 3/12 after 2 overs and on the brink of a massive defeat. So people thought.
Cocrine had other ideas. Supported by Liam Afosha, he began to take down the bowling, hitting hard until Afosha fell in the eighth over with the score on 58. Charlton came and went and the score was 5/75 in the middle of the tenth over. The game was in Krytenia's favour, but they needed Cocrine. They didn't get him. Lenton supported the form number three batsman as every bowler went to all parts. Especially Mirandino and Maguire, although Hill wasn't punished as severely. In the seventeenth over, Cocrine it two sixes to reach his deserved century and the win for Sylestone. The result has given them a strong net-run-rate and puts them in contention for second place.

Unexpected Victory

In the previous game, Hebitaka faced Eljamie. With two more games left back then Hebitaka either had to win both or win one of the games with a good ,margin and also depend on the other games for qualification. The Hebitaki fans had already thought that they are going to lose against the Eljamie with an odds of 80% for Elajamie winning and 20% for Hebitaka. But the team had other plans. The Eljamie team won the toss and chose to field first, planning to stop Hebitaka to a low score and beat them by chasing it down easily. And as expected the Hebitaki team lost 2 quick wickets by the 8th over with a low score of 64. But then the Unexpected happened when the man Nasako Kim, then at 22 of 16 balls smashed the game. Making a partnership of 63 with David Aron, the team reached a score of 127 in 13.4 overs, when Aron got out. But that was not the end of Hebitaki game. The team scored 201/3 by the end of 20 overs with a score of 107 not out of 53 balls by Nasako Kim.
The Eljamie batting also proved to be quite good at the beginning with 55/1 in the powerplay(i.e. 6 overs) with Hamilton scoring a good 31. But the team run rate fell as the vice captain Loughlin got out in the eighth over with a score of 68. The team scored more low from then. By the 15th over the score was 124/3, with the team needing more 77 in 30 balls. It was then that the right handed man Entwistle scored 25 runs in an over with 3 sixes, a four and some singles. With the pressure falling down a bit, the team needed more 52 in 24 balls. But the next over Entwistle was bowled and in the 18th over two more wickets fell. The team reqired more 47 runs in the last two and giving 15 runs in the nineteenth over, 32 more were needed in the last one. The first two balls went for dots and needing more 32 in 4, victory was assured for the team. The final over only gave 8 runs to the Eljamie, giving a victory by 23 runs to the Hebitaki team.

"...Toljo Jorse prepares to deliver the first ball of Darmen's chase... she pulls up halfway through her run-up... there appears to be a nude goat streaking across the pitch!"

"Aren't all goats nude?"

"No."

"What‽"

"Security is quickly coming onto the pitch to show the goat off... wait... no... that's not security! That's an equally nude Danny Morrison!"

"What‽"

"The two of them are dancing together at silly point and Vinnie Acker is absolutely mesmerized. I've never seen anything like this!"

"I didn't want to see anything like this."

ODI World Trophy: One Day Ignominy

Yohan Barkots

Sajnur needed to win their last four matches to qualify for the knockout stages. Sajnur won... one. The team did get close to a second. At Racecourse Ground, The Sarian had to wait until the penultimate ball of their fifty overs to finally chase the 234 that Sajnur had set. Unfortunately, they still won, as Katelyn Daalmans slapped an Alan Tijer yorker for four. Sajnur didn't go winless in the second group stage, at least. The dishonour of losing to our cricketers fell to Elejamie, and they lost by 93 runs. Thanks solely to this match, it was the Greenblacks who finished bottom of Group J rather than our folks in red and purple. It made little difference in practical terms, though, as both teams were eliminated from the tournament anyway. At least there is a smidge of silver in the dark clouds.

Starting the second group stage was a loss to New Lunenburg. Orean is now a somewhat familiar city of the team, but Group J was held at the city's other cricket ground, Broadham Green. The capacity of Broadham Green is less than a quarter of that of Park Central Oval, such is the perceived stature of the lower groups of the second stage. One could say the smaller capacity is a good thing, in that it means that fewer people watch Sajnur lose. Regardless, morale was not on the agenda as Sajnur crawled to 234/5. James Atkinson choked the openers from the moment the teams stepped onto the pitch, and quickly dispatched Harry Kotte for 12. Gabby Fiume hung around longer, forming some semblance of a partnership with Solomon Tawas as they saw out the first spell of spin. Atkinson came back, though, and soon Fiume was also back in the pavilion. Captain Tomas Piqa followed a few overs later, his stumps removed by, yet again, Atkinson. The good news was that Atkinson would not get any more wickets. The bad news was that Adam Lyons got one to bounce and Tawas sent a thick edge to New Lunenburg captain Nathan Stainton. Emre Vurda hit two sixes, and then skied a Konstantin Schneider length ball to Sebastian Wells. No more wickets fell, and Kaori Jansa and Toljo Jorse dragged the team to a respectable score, and Jorse even got a fifty at above a run a ball.

New Lunenburg then proceeded to control the match. David Klein and Jordan Humphreys got off to reasonably quick starts, and while they were clean bowled by Nikolas Burovin and Alan Tijer respectively, Rufus Webber and Sebastian Wells had enough of a platform to consolidate on, and they formed a partnership which wasn't dislodged until Toljo Jorse trapped Webber lbw. Nathan Stainton skied one to Burovin two balls later, and suddenly the opponents seemed a bit skittish. Wells slowed down further, Andreas Hansen nicked a Tijer delivery to Emre Vurda for 18, and Wells, shortly after getting his half century, attempted to sweep Elsa Cazla, missed badly, and had his stumps cleaned. This, unfortunately, was the end of all good fortune for Sajnur as Adam Lyons proceeded to destroy the Sajnuran bowling attack. Five fours, four sixes, and somehow a run a ball even without the boundaries, he and Cian Connolly saw New Lunenburg to victory.

The city of Talbott was similarly lean of fortune. Mattijana had a 2-4 record in the first stage, like Sajnur, and they had a bye when we lost to New Lunenburg. There was hope that they would be an opportunity to get the campaign back on track. This did not happen. Katarina Sava and Dominik Vukjic immediately went at a run a ball, and while Vukjic and Marko Zackov fell victim to fast bowling, Sava and Jasmina Benzeni kept hacking away at ball after ball, and both scored fifties before falling victim to spin. Somehow, things got worse. How? Simple. Jos Illicic. Seven fours. Nine sixes. 127 runs off just 76 balls. Unbeaten. Mattijana's innings score? 353/6. Thanks to Illicic, four of Sajnur's bowlers went above seven an over, though Burovin bouncing two over Emre Vurda's head to the boundary didn't help his figures. The chase started badly when Gabby Fiume was bounced by Kasenka Riegler. Then it went well as Harry Kotte and Solomon Tawas scored fifties in a century partnership. Then it was bad again, as they both went, followed by Tomas Piqa, Kaori Jansa, and Vurda. After Alan Tijer launched a Johanna Murska delivery to Benzeni, Toljo Jorse was forced to shepherd Karim Haton and Stefan Lulle to the finish line, any hope for victory extinguished. Two unbeaten fifties for Jorse, two losses.

The wafer thin silver lining of Sajnur's second group stage was waiting upon Sajnur's return to Orean in the form of Elejamie, a team whose only win in the first group stage was against previous opponents Mattijana. If Elejamie beat Mattijana, they could beat us, right? Well, they didn't. Gabby Fiume got a century while chewing her trademark chocolate cigars (real blunts are, unfortunately, illegal in Liventia) and watching her teammates lose their wickets one by one. Eventually Toljo Jorse came to the pitch, and Fiume promptly edged a Robert Hamilton ball to keeper Mike Bentley. Fiume, at least, lasted long enough that Jorse didn't have to do much shepherding, helped further by Alan Tijer's 25 (9) and the return of Elsa Cazla, who hit the last ball of the match for six, dampening any happiness Hamilton may have had after bowling Karim Haton two balls earlier. Sajnur scored 283, two runs more than in their 72 run loss to Mattijana just a few days earlier. This was Orean, however, and this was Elejamie.

Alan Tijer ran up to the pitch, ball in hand, for the first delivery of the match. At the other end was Steve Loughlin. At 152km/h, the white ball bounced on a length, chopped the vice captain in half, and shattered his castle. Robert Hamilton walked from the pavilion, down the field and in front of the wickets to take Loughlin's place. Tijer charged down the field and released the ball. The speed gun shows just 130km/h. The change of pace proves deceptive. Hamilton edges the ball high, and Emre Vurda sets himself under the ball, letting it drop into his big gloves. Two balls, two wickets. The crowd cheers wildly. Mike Bentley takes the place of Hamilton and Loughlin before him. The crowd grows in volume, a crescendo awaiting the desired hattrick. Bentley smacks his bat down on the pitch, eyeing Tijer running towards him. Aware of the fate of the previous batsmen, he take the ostensibly safe option and shoulders up to the ball. This is the wrong decision. Tijer bowls at 154km/h. It's straight at Bentley's feet. Right in front of the stumps. The entire Sajnuran team erupts in appeal, and the crowd erupts with them. The umpire has no choice but to raise his finger. The crowd enters rapture. Three balls into the match, and Tijer has taken a hattrick.

Kelly Entwistle stands on what is now approaching a mass grave and finally resists a Tijer delivery. He and Dawoud Halabi, formerly helpless at the non-strikers end as Tijer ripped through his comrades, form a partnership. A slow partnership, but a partnership regardless. Can they form a platform from which to chase 283? No. Halabi falls to a Toljo Jorse doosra, and the tap of wickets is reopened. There is no flood as there was at the start of the match, but there is a flow. The next two bats, one of whom is Dawoud Halabi's brother Salman, fell to Elsa Cazla after painful spells at sub-fifty strike rates. Captain Danny Slezinger tried to rouse the chase with a couple of boundaries, but soon his bails went flying as he became Tijer's fourth scalp. Entwistle can only watch as the tail enters the fray. Cazla confuses Lucas Mahler with a googly, and Arian Rodriguez becomes Tijer's fifth scalp, andElejamie's fourth duck, lasting just three balls as his off bail is flicked off by a seaming white bolt. Entwistle protected Pablo Novak from facing more than two balls and scores a century in the process, but the personal achievement is little solace in the face of such a devastating defeat. For Sajnur, it is their major source of happiness in the second group stage.

Sajnur did not win again. Against Martune, Harry Kotte would score a century, but Eduard Gardener would score a quicker one. Returning to Talbott for the rest of the campaign, Sylestone would be the next bringer of defeat. Solomon Tawas would score his first century of the campaign, but Lachlan Edwards would steal the show. He and Broughton Hall would spin Sajnur dizzy with combined figures of 18.0-2-58-3, and Edwards would smash thirteen boundaries on his way to 154*. Against the Sarian, true devastation, at least as much as can be achieved when there is nothing to play for. Kaori Jansa heaves and blocks his way to a century, and Elsa Cazla hits a superb cameo of 23* (10), complete with three sixes, to take Sajnur to a respectable score. From there, tension abounds, and it snaps in The Sarian's favour. Despite the good economy of Kaori Jansa and the spinners, Lucie Snaijer scores 90 at a good strike rate, and Katelyn Daalmans, having earlier constricted Sajnur by bowling at less than 3.5 runs per over, breaks the target and slaps that Alan Tijer yorker over the boundary. It was a good yorker, too, but Daalmans got enough space for herself to get the good bit of bat on to it, and Tijer goes down to his knees and remains there, all sense of energy apparating out of him.

All around, this was a terrible campaign. Just three wins from twelve matches. Against teams from Groups C-F, zero wins from four. The major bright spots? Beating one of the best teams in the world in Liventia when they had home advantage, and annihilating Elejamie. Opening the campaign with victory against Eastfield Lodge was also nice. Otherwise, darkness. Perhaps this campaign wasn't quite as terrible as it looked, though. New Lunenburg and Martune would convincingly beat established teams in their elimination matches, and New Lunenburg would remarkably go on to win it all, becoming the very first ODI world champions. Then again, we lost to Sylestone. And they went on to lose to Elejamie.

Jill Martin on the frontline for the LDP
James Lawrie · Political columnist · Friday, 3rd November 2020
Atheburn, GU

The atmosphere in the Grearish political circuit has been on-the-rise ever since the Liberal Democratic Party (better known as the LDF or the LibDems0 announced their frontrunner for the Prime Ministerial seat in the 31-year old Jill Martin. Hailing from the city of Atheburn in the GU, Martin is seen as a champion of moderate national control over the market-based economy of the Grearish Union. With recent developments like the major investment of Banijan company RTC into the Grearish public transport infrastructure, and half of the revenue going to the said company based abroad, the ruling NatCon government under Sean Fullerton is in a spot of bother with taxpayers protesting the outflow of national revenue into banijan hands.
'This has been a long time coming,' says Jill Martin, 'and the ruling government has to acknowledge that their time of ignoring issues that plague taxpayers at large is coming to screeching halt sooner than later.' While the confidence that oozed from her voice will be comforting to the liberal democrat lobby, it still comes with its own set of cons. The right-leaning voters see her as a threat to the free-market economy that has worked wonders (mostly) for the GU, and will be apprehensive to the prospect of having economic freedom under her leadership in the long run. 'This is our time to unite', says Martin, when asked about the prospect of swinging the right-leaning lobby towards her. 'It isn't about Jill Martin anymore, here. This is about our great Grearish land and the glory that comes along with it - the only exception being that we have to make sure we work towards bettering it further, this time - for the poor, the needy, the homeless, the undernutritioned and the disregarded.' A lot of analysts have already been trying to get to her choice of words, and the general feeling floating around is that she is trying to push her ideas without antagonising her 'friends' from the right - a rather softline approach when compared to the previous election strategies that the Grearish LibDems have followed over the years that have passed by.
It is being suspected that the main LibDem talking points would be non-binary gender rights, controlled drug legalisation and a nationalised health policy yet again. What is almost surely not going to go down well with certain sections of the rather patriotic Grearish crowd is the LibDem's recent undermining of Armed Forces activity in the Barbosa Sea, and the general disregard for (what the LDP calls) 'unnecessary strengthening of a fighting force' and 'destablisation of the region' via the same. The expected lines of attack shall thus live on for LDP, even though the strategy did not work well last time around. There are two striking differences this time, however: One being the way in which the centre-left is not trying to isolate and alienate the right to try and swing a few voters to their side; while the other is the power-packed presence of a certain Jill Martin.

Dragonflies win twice more and face the Plough Islands for group win

Our friendly rivals keep it close to make sure the final match decides the fate of Group D. The Dragonflies and the Foxes qualify for the knockouts no matter what.

Ko-oren 137/2 (18 overs)
The Jovannic 136/4 (20 overs)

Greater Kamilistan 143/8 (20 overs)
Ko-oren 146/6 (17.4 overs)

A pair of slow chases sees the Green and Blue lead Group D with five wins to zero losses, while bringing their net run rate down ever so slightly. The bowling has done its job to keep runs down (and take key wickets here and there) but the batting seems to be a little on the slow side. Despite that, the team has chased down both the Jovannic and Greater Kamilistan successfully with overs to spare - but versus teams that have a combined 3 wins across 10 matches, we'd hoped to either see the target to be a little lower or the chase to get underway a little faster, or, of course, the chase not to see us lose so many wickets.

Scoring in the entire tournament seems not to be that high (but that might have to do with the fact that lower ranked teams seem to bat first unusually often) so targets in the 140s are pretty common. In the first match, the Jovannic simply couldn't find the outfield often enough while being very cautious not to drop far beyond its middle order. In the second, Greater Kamilistan went all out and in the end lost too many wickets to set up a decent final stand. You know it's a bad look when, after scoring about 135 runs in the first 18 overs, you fizzle out to 10 runs in the final two overs.

In fact, no team in this round managed a target of 200+. The closest anyone came was Darmen's 183 versus a very, very disappointing West Phoenicia team. Surely any title contender is looking at their implosion, thinking that the route to the final just got a little easier. The same can be said about Eastfield Lodge and Elejamie, who are already eliminated and hanging on by a thread respectively. The latter are in a three-way battle for second place with Hebitaka and Pratapgadh, who are so close that even the table numbering gave up. Hebitaka is ranked second despite being ranked third, Elejamie is 4th and third simultaneously, and Pratapgadh is second as well as fourth. Net run rate gives it to the newcomers of Hebitaka, for now. Unfortunately, neither will play one another, with the final matchday of Group A coming down to Pratapgadh versus Rundel (unranked, 1-4), Elejamie versus Liventia (dangerous! Liventia are 5-0), and Hebitaka versus Gruenberg (unranked, 1-4, but also the hosts).

Man of the match for the Jovannic match is a hard one to call. On the one hand, it's either Twaddle or Stevenson for holding the fort for so long (opening stand of 110), with Stevenson eventually settling for 71 runs, not out - but on the other hand, Thrall defused a few hairy situations, lowering the tempo of the Jovannic's innings, suppressing runs in a phase of the match where the opposing batsmen were scoring at will, and taking down two wickets (bowled & caught, lbw). Stevenson's impact is more measurable and immediately visible, so we're going with him.

The Greater Kamilistan was decided by the bowlers much more, despite allowing more runs (a consequence of the pitch) and the amount of extras given away doesn't help either. That said, man of the match for this one goes to Borllog yLellmedd for his 4-0-29-5. Not blaming him for the runs or the lack of maidens (why are maidens still required for this format of a bowler's performance in T20?), but that last number is telling. Five wickets overall is a crazy day, for a spinner, in this format. That's two LBWs, an edge to Wheelwright, and forcing two catches in the outfield (Penn right on the rope, and Harvey at deep square leg. Props to the batsman for making that incredible a shot, but well snuffed out by the pace bowler at the ready.

Youth policy draws mixed results as Gruenberg crash to fourth defeat

Zambuimmi Hengtridan Jr.’s forlorn celebrations of a maiden international fifty reflected a torturous 61-ball grind on a raging Moroschwegen surface. Worn down by a week of matches and baked under unusually hot weather for the north, the pitch was without a trace of the grass that usually gives comfort to seam bowlers; in its place: cracks. Robert Hamilton’s first ball exploded off the service with a spray of dust that suggested a mortar had landed; by the end of the innings, each delivery from even the spinners was ragging wildly. In between came an excruciating spell of batting from Hengtridan Jr., optimistically given his second chance at opening after impressing on debut. He was simply out of his depth and struggled to middle a single ball.

His struggles were compounded by those of Salajaff Qilairana who dragged himself to an equally limpid 32. They consumed 15 overs scoring just 82 runs between them as Ettexinor Broimbles chewed his nails off watching from the balcony. A dropped catch and a missed run-out arguably benefited the bowling side more than the batting. When Qilairana finally played around a Danny Slezinger Gurglestani*, Gruenberg had amassed just 91 runs – with four overs remaining. Bbqsauce Rirfin’s debut ended in a golden duck, Hrakkanord Qeftidjil’s return to the side yielded a promotion and 8 balls of mayhem, while Jett Tyrkkekkekklukkekklukekk couldn’t repeat his heroics as a pinch-hitter. Broimbles, the self-doubter, haddemoted himself to 7, then proved the folly of his own captaincy by smashing 24 runs in the mere 5 deliveries he’d given himself to bat.

148 ended up looking a competitive total on such a poor batting surface, and Broimbles’s gamble in leaving out experienced seamer Grovan on his home ground and giving a debut to Quouodan Skejjibox looked to have worked as Gruenberg’s spinners set to work running through Elejamie’s top order. Tumcoweiss and Yowoax had reduced Elejamie to 29-3 before Skejjibox’s bewitching entrance, trapping Bentley LBW with his first ball and yielding just a leg-bye in what would prove a double wicket maiden. With Qilairana getting in on the action, a return to Gruenberg’s 20 overs of spin tactics seemed to threaten. Broimbles did eventually give Qeftidjil one chance to land his yorkers – he failed.

76-7 looked an unassailable position for Gruenberg, but they had reckoned without Danny Slezinger. Elejamie’s captain played a true captain’s innings to muscle-and-guts his side to victory. Worryingly for Broimbles, what the Greenblacks had lacked in application, they made up for in resolve, while conversely Gruenberg’s classical strokemakers had failed to adapt to the surface while their ragged fielding allowed Slezinger to manipulate the strike with almost comical ease to boss the final overs. Their most experienced bowler slipped his lines at the last as Slezinger batted two boundaries to bring up his 50 – and his third to seal a truly humiliating defeat for the home side.

* The term “Chinaman” is unknown in Gruenberg, who’ve never heard of a place called China. Instead they refer to such bowling as “Gurglestani”, referencing neighbouring Gurglestan and their perceived lack of (religious) orthodoxy.

The Annasholm Sentinel

As the old adage says, every dog (or badger or turtle) has his (or her) day. Northwest Kalactin's victory over Rundel was a deserving team effort, with batsmen from the bottom to the top of the order contributing. This was particularly true in Rundel's unsuccessful second innings, in which bowlers Flark Balgula and Frencka Obsing had to bat for the first time and kept Rundel from being all out; granted, they faced less than an overs' worth of balls each, but it's the thought that counts. Rundel's bowling, while not as spread-out as the multitalented Kalactin side, featured left-handed twirlers Snita Massoin and Sahana Rosalni coming off the bench and...well, perhaps the nicest thing to say is doing no worse than the starters. Rosalni was unable to claim any wickets, preventing an extremely equitable (or communist) distribution of outs in the Rundel tally, but vice-captain Sippel Angacos picked up the slack by bowling out Sean Adams and watching Joseph Gonzalez fumble his way into a leg before wicket. Kevin Lopez would have a fine day on defense, making two catches in the field and one as bowler.

Editor's note: we understand that Northwest Kalactin doesn't actually have a national animal or any sort of political symbolism but we thought the flag was neat. We also found an error in our report of the first match, erroneously crediting the all-arounders Perra and Eutaw with bowling three overs each rather than the two they were scheduled for. The responsible journalist has been sacked and is reportedly fleeing to the Holy Mountains of Gruenberg to seek anonymity and do some religious sightseeing.

Sylestone have lost by an agonising four runs to a decent-looking Sajnur side in Matchday 6 of the GCF T20 World Championship. The result has put them into dire straits for their qualification chances. But they still have a shot at it. They need to beat West Phoenicia, the world number ones, to even give themselves a chance at second place. Moreover, Darmen must beat Ethane, or it's all over. And if that's not good enough, Sylestone needs to somehow overhaul Ethane's supreme net-run-rate. To do this? Smash West Phoenicia into smithereens, or hope Darmen slaughters Ethane. It's not looking good, is it?

Sajnur won the toss and elected to bat on a decent-looking pitch in Gruenberg. It seemed to backfire, as Zolje fell early to Pistecial and Flume went soon after to Jonjaakh. 2/31 after 4 overs was a half-decent start, but not one that looked promising. But opener Harry Kotte was looking good, and captain Piqa came to the crease. The two brought the innings back from the brink, but Piqa never got going. Kotte did, reaching 45 off 31, before falling in the eleventh over to Hall. Piqa fell for a poor 11 of 21 balls a couple of balls later. 4/79 with 9 overs to go did not look good for Sajnur, and they needed a partnership. Fortunately for them, Jansa and Vurda had the right mindset, scoring carefully but quickly to wrack up 90 runs in 9 overs. Jansa made 50 in the last over but was run out on the last ball going for a non-existent second run. Sajnur had clawed their way back into the game, reaching 5/169, a very winnable total. It proved to be, but only just.

Image

Tiati and Monteane began strongly for Sylestone, but the run-rate wasn't high enough as Tiati fell trying to up it towards the end of the powerplay. Form batter Cocrine went for just one and Sylestone looked in trouble early on. Fomleya came and went, for 16 off 10, and Sylestone were in trouble at 3/80. Afosha joined Monteane and the two put on 28 before Monteane, one ball after passing fifty, was bowled by Cazla. Lenton joined Afosha and couldn't get going. He took the majority of the strike before edging off on 15 from 16 balls. 139 was the score, with less than 3 overs to go. But Pistecial and Afosha did their best. The two of them brought it down to the last ball, with Sylestone needing 5 off the last ball to win. But Tijer was too good. He produced a perfect yorker that Afosha could only hit back to the bowler. Sajnur celebrated as Afosha fell to his knees. He had got close, but couldn't bring it home. Now they were on the brink of elimination.

The journey until yet

With a bye going on for the Hebitaki team, we are going to discuss the Journey of the team of Hebitaka till date and discuss the future possibilities as well.

MD 1- Vs Liventia:

Who can forget the first game for this team, as well as for this tournament. The mighty second placed Liventia played the newbies Hebitaka. It was expected from all that the team had no chances. And as expected, Hebitaka lost by a strong margin. With Hennessey's knock of 45 and Finch's match winning knock of 51 took the team to 176 with loss of 7 wickets, with Gopikrishan taking 4 wickets and gaining 27 runs in 3 overs. In response, Hebitaki team was only able to score 157 in the quota of 20 overs with the captain Musfiqur scoring 51 runs and Joshi with 37 runs. 5 wickets fell in total, where Kerr took 3 wickets.5 wickets
Game result:- Liventia wins by 19 runs
MOTM: PD Finch(51 runs off 37 balls)

MD 2- Vs Rundel:

The first victory for the Hebitaki. Winning the toss, the Rundel went on to field. The Hebitaki team proved their choice wrong by hitting the team with 176 runs, with a contribution of 72 from Joshi alone. Kentocks bowled well with 3 wickets of the total 5 that fell gaining only 21 runs in 4 overs. In response the Rundel batsman shattered as the Murick with 63 and Pauxten with 59 runs were the only ones with high scores, and the rest of the three could not even score over twenty runs limiting the team's score to 158 in loss of 3 wickets.
Game Result:- Hebitaka win by 18 runs
MOTM: D Joshi (72 runs off 45 balls)

MD 3- Vs Northwest Kalactin:

One of the Challenging games for Hebitaka as they went on to face the Champions of GCF World T20 Championship X. Musfiqur, the Hebitaki skipper won the toss and took the bat in hand. The opener Nasako Kim gave a good start with the third batsman Joshi, but the finishing of 92 not out off 67 deliveries from Tanujit Mondal, got the runs score to 184 with loss of 5 wickers. The bowling from Thompson and Lopez stopped the Hebitaka from crossing 190 run margin. In response, the Hebitaki bowling did a quite Economic bowling with Aron only gaining 18 runs in 3 overs and Kimano gaining 22 runs in 4 overs. This bowling stopped Kalactins from scoring the additional required 15 runs in a score of 169/4, despite a great batting from Adams, who scored 62 off just 33 balls.
Hebitaka win by 15 runs
MOTM: T Mondal(92* runs off 67 balls)

MD 4- Vs Pratapgadh:

After the victory against Northwest Kalactin by a moderate margin, it was Expected for the Hebitaki to win this game with a bit high odds. But fate said otherwise. Winning the toss Hebitaka elected to bat, but were limited to a score of just 153/7 in 20 overs. Pratapgadh easily chased the target down in 18.5 overs scoring 157 with loss of 4.
Pratapgadh wins by 6 wickets and 7 balls remaining

MD 5- Vs Eljamie:

This was the game everyone thought that Hebitaka had no chance with. The Elajamie elected to bowl first after winning the toss. But a quick wicket fell on the 7th over. Ajnd most of the Hebtiaki fans lost hope and stopped watching the game as the star man Debraj Joshi, lost his wicket. But then, Kim started his true game. Scoring 107 not off just 53 balls and with strike rate of 201.88, Kim took the score to 201/3 in 20 overs smashing the bowlers pretty bad. The batting of Eljamie was straight and loose for most of the match except the time when Entwistle struck some boundaries. That did ease the pressure for a moment, but was not a match winning knock and hence the team ended with a score of 178 for loss of 5, with Hebitaka winning by 23 runs.
Hebitaka wins by 23 runs
MOTM: Nasako Kim(107* off 53 balls)

MD 6- the bye:

The bye that Hebitaka got was an important one as the team got the necessary rest. Many players enjoyed themselves in multiple tourist places of Gruenberg while multiple players decided to practice more and more.

MD 7(Upcoming) - Vs Gruenberg

The host of the tournament, this game is gonna be a hard one as well. Even though Gruenberg is currently Unranked, they have already played many World T20s with being runner in the WT20 VII and the Champions of WT20 V. The team is looking to win the match. Apart from that, the team is hoping for Liventia to beat Eljamie, so that they could not reach 8 points and surpass Hebitaka and is also looking for Rundel to either defeat Pratapgadh or have a close match with them so that even if Pratapgadh has 8 points. they could not surpass Hebitaka due to NRR. But this all applies only if Hebitaka defeats Gruenberg, or else the chances would get rather more thinner.

WT20 XIII: Sajnur still in contention... kind of

Joanna Lau

Of their last three matches, the Sajnuran T20 team has taken two wins and one loss. Unfortunately, with only two teams out of seven progressing out each group, this leaves Sajnur with little chance to make the quarter finals. There is a chance, as theoretically Sajnur will rise to second in Group B if they beat Krytenia and Darmen beat Ethane. The problem? The net run rate gap is a whopping 2.168. To overhaul that in one match would require astronomically lopsided results in both relevant matches, and we'd also need West Phoenicia to at least keep it close against Sylestone. The odds? Very long.

First up - really third up - was Kriegiersien. A team with no experience, and ergo no ranking, but still not a team to be complacent about. The country's football team play in what can best be called underwear, but was good enough to beat Sajnur and Omerica to make the knockout stages of IAC9. The cricket team, however, arrived in Liventia with normal uniforms, and as such were not an eyesore to Gabriela Fiume as the Kriegs were to her girlfriend Jessica Siafik.

What was an eyesore were the swamps of Rajjenkali, Karim Haton wearing a gas mask when he visited and Elsa Cazla describing them as "putrid", although fellow spinner Toljo Jorse was more appreciative of them and their ecological importance. Regardless, the first match relevant visual assualt was Darjo Zulje's leg being hit plumb in front of the stumps. Sajnuran spectators would get a more welcome sight, however, in Gabby Fiume as her calm stroke play lent security and assurance to Harry Kotte's assault on the Kriegier bowlers. They would form a partnership of more than 130 runs, but Kotte's attempt to turn on the rocket engines saw him sky one to long off, and Emre Vurda, coming on in captain Tomas Piqa's usual number four slot, could only hit a solitary six as he and Fiume trundled to 179. The Krieg response was to throw their bats at anything and everything, which worked moderately well in the opening overs until they lost their openers, terribly when they haemorrhaged wickets for not all that many runs whilele the Sajnuran spinners were on, and then excellently when Burovin and Tijer came back to be smashed on the spin friendly pitch and the Kriegier finishers tied the score, triggering a Super Over. Toljo Jorse was called upon and restricted the opponents to ten runs. Tijer and Vurda came on to chase, and with a sequence of four, dot, single, dot, and then a six from Tijer, Sajnur took the two points.

While the loss to Ethane was bad in absolute terms, the loss to Darmen has proven to be a further setback. Remaining in the Rajjenkali swamps, Harry Kotte managed a decent innings of 35 before he became the first of Dorian Myers' five wickets. With Darjo Zulje having taken another ball to the leg earlier on, it was Gabby Fiume who would fall next, indeed in the same over as Kotte. Edging one to third man, Fiume left for a permanent tea break, and Tomas Piqa would edge one to the keeper the next over, unable to control a Menashe Wakefield bouncer. Kaori Jansa would hit a handful of balls to the boundary, but Emre Vurda and Alan Tijer would fall to Domenic Gardenar and Corwin McAlister respectively, the latter a clean bowling but for the flying pieces of wicket flying into Adalfuns Armbruster's face. Betwen them, Vurda's and Tijer's only runs would be a four Tijer hit when he walked on to end Gardenar's over. With Toljo Jorse intending on actually staying around for a bit, Jansa would check out with an lbw, and Myers would remove tailenders Elsa Cazla and Sirua, though not before they hit a boundary each. Stefan Lulle, however, stuck around until the end. Despite coming on at eleven, he hit two fours and otherwise fed Jorse the strike like a waiter. Jorse, for her part, hit six boundaries, including one over Myers' head into the stands and another off a 150+km/h McAlister bouncer that seemed more like a protective reflex than an actual shot, but regardless flew out of the ground. Her other job was hogging the strike, and she did that exquisitely, scoring just ten runs from her remaining 23 deliveries, allowing Cazla, Sirua, and Lulle to face just 14 between them.

For the start of Darmen's innings, Captain Piqa made the unusual decision to open the bowling with Jorse's off spin. This proved to be a smart decision, as the red clay soil combined with a first ball doosra to remove Vinnie Acker, the opener helplessly waving at the surprise and edging it to Zulje at slip. Unfortunately, this introduced Winston van der Zee to the pitch. While other opener Sigmund Winter ended a run a ball 17 by gifting Vurda with a limp attempt at fending off Cazla, van der Zee would hit eight boundaries and score at nearly two a ball before Jorse trapped him lbw. Theudofrid Milligan would do little better than his captain opener, bar staying in for 29 balls, before Lulle would provoke a slash to Fiume. Unfortunately, he was helped out by Gardenar, who hit 15 off just six deliveries before Tijer threw down the stumps to run him out. Armbruster and Bud Bachmann would secure victory for Darmen, scoring 42 off 27 between them, and Bachmann shepherding McAlister, Alf Dickenson, and Myers to 171, hitting a four of Cazla to bring up the winning runs.

Number One Plays Like Number Two
Darmen Qualifies to Quarterfinals

RAJJENKALI, GRUENBERG - Darmen's bowlers made sure Theudofrid Milligan's half-century was not for nothing, stifling their opponents and preventing the multiverse's #1 team, West Phoenicia, from chasing down a total of 183. Dorian Myers, coming off of a five-for in the preceding match, added three more wickets to his totals from this competition. But the aforementioned Milligan half-ton was considered greater than the three wickets as it was Milligan who was named Player of the Match.

With the victory over the Lightning Bolts, Darmen is assured a place in the knockouts, making the match against Ethane a dead rubber. Darmeni captain Sigmund Winter has announced two changes to the Darmeni lineup for the match, as Kenny O'Callaghan will replace Domenic Gardenar for the match against Ethane. Additionally, Justin Beckett will give Adalfuns Armbruster a rest as Darmen prepares for the knockouts.

A certain amount of transnational hopping is now required for some teams, which is unavoidable in order to preserve proper seeding. Details of the grounds can be found in the OPs.

Important note: as the host teams have been eliminated, from now on we will revert to scorinating matches in our own countries. This means games in Gruenberg will be scorinated by Gruenberg and games in Grearia scorinated by Grearia. Please therefore make note of the cut-off times!

Quarter-finals

Grearia:
Darmen (1) v Hebitaka (8) @ Southgate Park, Plibury
Mattijana (4) v The Plough Islands (5) @ Auburn Hill, Edgenorth

Gruenberg:
Liventia (2) v Damukuni (7) @ Merlefurt Cricket Ground
Ko-oren (3) v Ethane (6) @ Silver Crown Ground, Arradan

Semi-finals

Grearia:
Darmen/Hebitaka v Mattijana/The Plough Islands @ Adam Garden, Forsho

Gruenberg:
Liventia/Damukuni v Ko-oren/Ethane @ Moroschwegen Arena of Death

Finals

The final will be played at the Atheburn Oval, Atheburn, in Grearia.

The 3PPO will be played at The Oval, Flurthwel, in Gruenberg.

The Annasholm Sentinel:
"We have reached peak Twenty20" says subeditor who just wanted to make that pun

The group stage of the World Twenty20 Championship has come to an end, and Rundel, along with nineteen other teams, will be going home. (Editor's note--we think this should be "seventeen" because the hosts are already at home.) Despite wariness about venturing overseas and mingling with strange foreign nations, the squad claims that it was a worthwhile experience to test their mettle against the world's elite.

"One thing I've definitely noticed," claims captain Callo Kemdawn, "is that if we want to be at the level of some of these sides we really ought to have middle names. I mean, we didn't bring any, while some of these nations have one or two. How are we supposed to keep up with a Brendon Alexander Radley or an OKSPLUUSOTA?" Although Rundel's nomenclature can sound peculiar to outsiders, some individuals do take on a secondary name as a sign of religious maturity; unfortunately, many of those translate as something along the lines of Corlyan 'Think-On-Thy-Sins' Vardena or Wickbrun 'Sackcloth' Noghar, to name a couple parliamentarians. (Editor's note--maybe along the lines of the RL Puritans)

The team thanks the hosts for their hospitality and wishes the remaining participants good luck in the playoffs.

The Final Game

The final game was great one for the Hebitaki team. Winning the toss, the team went against the flow, electing to bowl first. A great game from EP Otterbiscuits as he struck 93 not out off just 57 balls. But the Hebitaki bowling maintained the pressure by gaining the fourth wicket for 42 runs in 10.2 overs only. But after these wickets a big partnership was played between Otterbiscuits and Qilairana of 114 runs in 55 deliveries, with Qilairana scoring 51 off 28, leading the score to 163-5.

Chasing 164 runs in 20 overs, 3 wickets fell by 15 runs in the third over. But then came the big game from Kim who played 96 runs off 53 balls. He formed two partnerships, one with the captain Asif who got out scoring 26 and then with Musako, who was only able to score 8. Kim was stumped by Chuffles in the over of Tyrkkekkekklukkekklukekk. The game was finished by Mondal and Tenzuo who stayed not out until the team reached score of 164-6 in just 18 overs, winning the game by 4 wickets and 12 balls left.

Quarter Final Quest

In the upcoming quarter finals, the Hebitaka plays the Darmen. It is going to be hard as in all the quarter finalists, Hebitaka is seeded last while Darmen is first. Apart from that, Darmen has not yet lost a single match. Many is believing that Hebitaka's journey in the GCF is going to end here. And even if it does, it was not a bad one. For an unranked newbie, the reaching the quarter final and ending up in the top eight is a big thing. We are the best!!
Leaving that aside, let's have a look at the Comparison between Hebitaka and Darmen yet.

Hebitaka Darmen
4(6) Wins(Games) 6(6)
1035 Runs Scored 1072
32 Wickets taken 40
0.356 Group Stage NRR 1.091
201-5(Vs Eljamie) Best Innings 191-2(Vs Sylestone)
0(0) H2H W(G) 0(0)

And here are results of Darmen's past 5 games:-

Win by 2 wickets Vs Ethane
Win by 30 runs Vs West Phoenicia
Win by 2 wickets Vs Sajnur
Win by 35 runs Vs Krytenia
Win by 8 wickets Vs Sylestone

A we can see, all the games are won by the Darmen. It is going to be a harsh match and according to the report we have got Hebitaka is likely to lose the game by a margin of over 20 runs(if bowl first) or by over 6 wickets and 12 deliveries remaining(if bat first). And then again this is just a reports and these reports were proven wrong by the Hebitaki when they beat Eljamie and Northwest Kalactin.

Quarterfinal preview

The quarterfinals are here, and unfortunately we've lost some contenders, some hopefuls, and some really enthusiastic teams in the process.

One of the hosts, the Grearish Union, ultimately fell short in group C behind the powerhouses of Mattijana and Damukuni. That group also held Eastfield Lodge and Indusse, who are definitely among the bigger cricket nations of the multiverse, but they finished last in the group with a combined two wins in 12 matches. Group D saw Lisander and the Busoga Islands drop out, but the cricketing giants of Ko-oren and the Plough Islands (the rivalry match eventually won by the Plough Islanders, but the group won by the Ko-orenites) survive. Group A has the other hosts, Gruenberg, who dropped to 1-5 and last place in the group. Northwest Kalactin, Pratapgadh, and Elejamie are among the other victims of that horribly close group, with Liventia and Hebitaka moving on in the end. Group B sees Darmen and Ethane advance, with Krytenia, Sylestone, Sajnur, Kriegiersien... and world's number one, West Phoenicia, dropping out. Group B easily gets the title of 'Group of Death', which you normally award ahead of the tournament... but the clash between 7 regularly cricket playing countries didn't disappoint and it's a miracle how Darmen survives it as the only 6-0 team in the entire competition. Group A had the two most enthusiastic newcomers in Rundel and Hebitaka, one of which was rewarded for their spirit. The other dropped to 2-4, but did take a final win over Pratapgadh, eliminating the latter.

Looking forward, which teams are most dangerous going into the final eight? Darmen is an easy choice given they haven't lost yet, but they've got a tough route to the final.

Darmen: #1 seed, #5 rank - versus - Hebitaka: #8 seed, UR rank
This one looks as good as decided, with Darmen coming into the tournament with the rank advantage and now advancing to the knockouts with the seeding advantage. Hebitaka is one of the more well-prepared teams of this edition however, with Asif and Tenzuo guiding the opposing team's innings via left-handed fast bowling into a more varied style after powerplay is over with Aron, Hibiki, Bhavesh, and Kimano changing up spin and pace. That also allows Darmen to prepare even better, knowing what they can expect in about the first half of their innings. We know the greens a bit too well, so I doubt the likes of Winter, Armbruster, McAlister, Dickenson and Myers need any introduction. We expect Darmen to win with about a 67% chance.

Mattijana: #4 seed, #3 rank - versus - The Plough Islands: #5 seed, #10 rank
This match features another team that we know a bit too well, so again, let's not re-introduce the Plough Islands' squad. Their names might be strange to you, and that's because they have sent a youth team. Limited overs are always a bit frowned upon on the small archipelago, but apparently they're a good source of experience for the youngsters. Mattijana haven't announced a final squad so it's difficult to gauge their exact configuration come matchday. We expect the Plough Islands to win with about a 51% chance.

Liventia: #2 seed, #2 rank - versus - Damukuni: #7 seed, #14 rank
For me, this is the best match of the round. Both teams are well known from other formats, have quite a bit of hype generated over the tournament, with Liventia finishing as the second-best team of the group stage, selecting a team with all of the stars we know and despise from when we play them in Tests. Hennessey, Finch, Edwards, the Kerrs, Reynolds, Goudreau, they're all there, and they're all on fire. Damukuni with their mix of youthful energy and experience might pose a threat, but we expect Liventia to win anyway, with about a 64% chance.

Ko-oren: #3 seed, #4 rank - versus - Ethane: #6 seed, #22 rank
Ethane is a familiar sight, but unfortunately they are a team in decline. They're already ranked twenty-second but self-admitted mismanagement among the ranks of the ENCB has failed to develop the talent necessary to facilitate an upswing. That said, they are in the final eight, so given their rank that's already an overperformance. The team, full of stars young and old, have taken the limited exposure on domestic tv and made the best of it. Here's to the future of Ethanian cricket! On the other side, the Ko-orenite team should be very well known. A carefully selected mix of age, handedness, tendencies, delivering by at least winning the group. Let's hope the adventure won't end after this match. We expect Ko-oren to win with about a 59% chance.

Darmen Chases Down Ethane
Hebitaka Who?

ARRADAN, GRUENBERG - Darmen has completed the group stage of the 13th edition of the GCF World T20 Championship with an undefeated record following a successful second innings chase. The Ethanian side can take at least some solace in joining Darmen as one of the two teams advancing out of Group B and into the knockouts.

Theudofrid Milligan was the key to Darmen's success and earned his third Player of the Match award of the tournament. In stark contrast to the rest of the Darmeni side, Milligan took his time to select his shots, spending 15 and a half overs in the middle racking up 54 runs, never losing his wicket. Milligan's batting has been top notch in every match, he's yet to score less than 24 runs in an innings so far and has three half-centuries to his name so far.

Darmen's quarterfinal opponent, Hebitaka may offer him a chance at a fourth. Or perhaps Milligan shouldn't count on that. The debutant nation advanced into the knockouts from a tough Group A, besting the likes of Elejamie, Pratapgadh and hosts Gruenberg, only Liventia finished ahead of the newcomers.

"We don't take anything for granted," commented Milligan after the playoff ties were announced. "Anyone who has made it to the quarterfinals deserves to be taken seriously. I don't know much about this Hebitaka team... and, honestly, that's why I'm concerned about the match. We don't know what to expect from them."
