Corrupt Dictatorship

Previously

Night-time in Rumiatzi. In the centre-east of the city, the great oval of Grand Duke’s Stadium shone brightly into the sky. Within its walls it concentrated the attention of millions and thundered with the noise of dozens of thousands: the unmistakeable ambience of a World Cup qualifying match.

Down in that pit was Aire Epherra, on the prowl. He’d already put Astograth 1-0 up, barging his way past Kenneth Workins to receive Duarte’s through ball and blast a shot across Gopnikea’s goal. That had made it 5 caps and 3 goals, baby. Easy. Kick ball go in net. And Vaudrail thought it was necessary that he and Duarte practice passing so much, ha.

Although his agent and everyone on TV and everyone on social media and his mum all said 4 caps and 2 goals were good numbers, and 5 caps and 3 goals were also good numbers, this was a great opportunity to make it 5 caps and 4 goals, a slightly better number. There wasn’t that much time left to do it, either – 20 minutes or so. Or maybe 15 or less than 10, he’d never been good at tracking time and he couldn’t find any clock in Grand Duke’s. What was he going to do, ask someone? That was for chumps.

These doubts did lead Epherra to look at the Astograthian bench, where Olentzaro Karazatorre was talking with assistant manager Ibai Kiriano, looking at a clipboard. Another striker? Arana had already come on for Malkorra on the right wing, to act as inside forward and give that flank more bite. Vaudrail had made it patently clear he wanted goals tonight. But Arana was a completely different kind of player to Epherra, the hulking target man, and Karazatorre was a whole lot more similar. Extremely similar, in fact, except a bit shorter and a bit faster but, more importantly, Karazatorre was bad, with bad numbers. This would be, what? His 6th cap? And no goals to show for those six matches. Was Vaudrail really going to take off Epherra for this kid? He’d done it once before already, late in the match against Siovanija and Teusland, losing 1-2. Epherra had collided with the goalpost trying to head in a tight ball and insisted he could continue, but was overruled by the medical team. There was no injury now, so what was the excuse? If they actually went through with this he’d be livid.

Anyway, focus. Epherra licked his lips and glanced around. Workins was his marker, and was wise to keep a cautious distance. The other centre-back, Willis, stayed further back as last man, and the full-backs stayed roughly level, moving up and dropping back as required. Down the pitch, Olibondeka were passing the ball around in their half, luring Gopnikea to the left before Ibargengoitia played a long ball to the right in an attempt to switch flanks. It overshot Arana and went out for a throw-in. The ball bounced directly into the path of Karazatorre, who flicked it away and stood beside the fourth referee as she lifted the electronic board. Epherra was already scowling and wondering how he could drag this out as much as possible when he noticed the red number was not 9, but 6. Had they held the board upside down? Apparently not, because nobody on the bench batted an eye as defensive midfielder Gaitzka Gurina shook the striker’s hand and stepped off the pitch. Karazatorre’s green number 20 would probably have been upside down too, on second thought.

So they’d be playing together for the second time, Epherra and Karazatorre. The first time had barely counted; it had been something of a desperation play to bring on Karazatorre for right-back Echeberz in the final few minutes of the draw against Omerica. Two nominal centre-forwards. As his younger partner approached, under the polite applause of the fans, Epherra spared him a professional greeting: grunt and an up-nod. The kid kept coming closer.

“We’re switching to 4-”

“3-1-2, I know,” snapped Epherra. Of course he knew, he wasn’t dumb. He’d trained and done Vaudrail’s weird study sessions, same as everyone else. He could tell what the plan was: leave Lekea as central ball-winner, pull the wingers back and toward the centre so they can build out from there; keep Sorrosua, who’d come on for Duarte, as the attacking playmaker, and then the two strikers. A somewhat more attacking 4-4-2 diamond. It was an unusual formation for Vaudrail, but a classic Wanderers lineup during Tzemeno Baxterrika’s tenure. Epherra had also played it extensively at Sporting Arkamo, under Iban Bachiondo and Machin Logegaray.

You see, Aire Epherra was a veteran of the Astograthian First Division. At home he had gold medals, replica trophies, dozens of individual awards, the shirts he’d traded with everyone who was anyone in the league. And then there was this kid Karazatorre, overhyped to Falconfar and back, with no trophies to speak of and precisely one season played at a decent club. Zakina… and the boy didn’t even react to getting cut off like that. No personality, no fight in him, always backing down. He’d never make it like that. Epherra gave him two years to be out of the national team and back at small-time Antiguoko FC.

The forwards separated, and Epherra noted how the defenders split to mark them. Karazatorre had gotten the faster marker, so the Sepulcrisians weren’t completely clueless. They might’ve even studied the opposition (them). The throw-in from which Astograth had introduced its substitution had led to an attack down the left and a cross, confidently cut off by the hands of Gentza Bedigax. On the counter-attack, Olibondeka sprung into action. Alarabi Labeaga received the ball from the goalkeeper and passed to left-back Marko Martel, who strode forward into the empty space ahead. When Jake Treyhon approached to cut him off, Martel played the pass to Ibargengoitia, slipped past Treyhon, and got the ball back to continue down the left flank. When it came right-back Harro Garfield’s turn to close down on Martel, he passed to Gero Sorrosua, who’d slipped between the lines of Gopnikea.

Epherra was the closest to Sorrosua. He’d spent the last moments moving around to threaten runs through the gaps of the defence and keep his marker Workins on his toes. Now Sorrosua had the opportunity to play the same ball Duarte had earlier in the match, right between the centre-backs and into the box for Epherra to bang in with his first touch. Epherra even pointed where to play it. So easy. Kick ball go in net.

Instead, Sorrosua hit the ball up and over, curling right and falling directly into the path of Olentzaro Karazatorre, nearly at the end line and chased closely by Arison Willis. He stopped it with his chest, and a sprinting Willis went straight past when the striker changed his own momentum and that of the ball, angling left to widen his angle on the goal. By then, Epherra had made his run into the box anyway, and now found himself on the penalty spot. If he could get the ball, it was a tap-in.

“YOU HAVE NO ANGLE WHATSOEVER, PASS ME THE BALL! I’M CLEAR!” is what he wanted to scream at Karazatorre, but it came out more like “HEY!”. His teammate didn’t even look at him.

With goalkeeper Mercary Garrison tightly covering the angle, and especially the near post, Karazatorre unleashed a shot with the outside of his right foot, the ball swerving right at the last moment to go into the net at the far post.

Astograth’s newest goalscorer ran to the corner flag to celebrate, and was mobbed by his midfield. Epherra jogged behind, keeping his distance. Karazatorre made sure not to let his arms down until he’d turned away from the fans and looked his rival straight in the eyes.

6 caps and 1 goal, thought Epherra. OK, the kid might make it.

Football talk live (on South Newlandia One, between MD6 and 7)

TL: Good evening viewers, and welcome to another edition of the football talk here live on South Newlandia One! I am your host, Tommy Lambert, and as always, we want to talk about the Elephants; the South Newlandian national team. I will not be doing that alone; I have some guests for you here! Say hello to the coach of Jecken Newport, Danny Edge! And here is Mary Ingolffson, current president of the SFA, the South Newlandian Fan Association! Welcome here. Danny Edge, let us start with you. We have two players from Jecken Newport in the national team currently, excluding Cohen; what do you think, can they make a difference?
DE: They sure can. Green is very talented, just struggling with his knee at the moment, while Bishop should get more time.
TL: Of course, Finnley Wallis is also a very talented player. Let us dive right into the first game!
(some highlights from the South Newlandian games are now shown, with commentary by Brandon van Simonson. Of course, this is the live commentary from the games; he isn’t actually present in the studio. Occasionally, someone talks over those highlights. Same as last time)
BvS: Here we are, the Elephants will look to pick up their first away points here in Se Vende Skooma, a newer nation that I did not receive a lot of information about. I literally do not know the names of the players. How did they expect this to work? Anyway, here is Mikahil Trischuk, the South Newlandian captain and goalkeeper, and the rest of the team; a team changed on quite a few positions for today. Lancaster and Green on the same pitch, we usually only see that when the Lions play Jecken. South Newlandia has the kick-off, and here we go!
TL: When David Watts was here, he advocated for Lancaster instead of Green. Danny Edge, what do you think?
DE: Watts has no idea what he is talking about. Green is much better; Lancaster doesn’t even stand a chance.
TL: It didn’t look like that against Tikariot?
DE: Okay, Lancaster doesn’t stand a chance when Green is feeling well, and doesn’t have problems with his knee.
BvS: So far, the game has seen very few chances, with the Elephants controlling the bulk of the possession so far, but they are getting way too few chances out of that. Maybe now, over the left side, Green in possession, but he gets tackled, fair tackle, ball rolls out of the field. Green isn’t getting up immediately; oh no, this isn’t looking great. Here come the medics, we will have to see if Green can play on. Wolverine sent both Mohamed and Li to warm up; of course, he will only substitute in one of them. It really is looking bad for Green, he is holding his knee, I don’t think he can play on. At least he doesn’t have to get carried off; he limps off with the help of Roy and McMora here. Wolverine has decided to send Li in again, he has already gotten a few minutes as substitute so far.
TL: And that makes it the third player missing for the team, and the second one for Jecken.
DE: Yeah, it’s looking bad. I don’t think he will be missing for that long, but he might be missing for the upcoming three or four games. Cohen is a different story; we have to be happy if he is back before the season starts again. Of course, none of that is comparable to what happened to Schroeder. It is sad to watch, but once again, it isn’t really anyone’s fault.
MI: I agree; I hate to see players get injured; I hope Green is back soon. What I don’t understand, I would’ve sent Mohamed in. But what do I know?
BvS: It’s almost halftime already, and the game is still lacking good opportunities. Here is McMora on the right side with a good dribbling, maybe that can create something. Easily gets past the defender, and here comes the flank to Simon McCabe, and he misses. By a lot, that was a few metres off at least. And the referee ends the half, punctual on the second. The game is tied, South Newlandia 0, Se Vende Skooma 0. Maybe the halftime will see Wolverine make some additional changes?
TL: A scoreless draw would really not be enough, really, if South Newlandia wants to stay in contention.
MI: Correction, it wouldn’t have been enough. We need to stop dropping points to the lower pot teams.
DE: That is partly was keeps costing Jecken every time. It’s just the way it goes.
BvS: No changes for the half, Wolverine still has two left at the moment, but the team has to get something together now at some point. We really need a goal here.
MI: He is right, sadly.
BvS: And the game continues on slowly. Se Vende Skooma is doing a very good job defending, and the Elephants just do not manage to break through. Irving has a bad day, and McCabe is under constant pressure. Wallis had some decent chanecs, but so far, he didn’t manage to do anything meaningful. Maybe now, he has the ball and is breaking through the middle, right in between two defenders, and there is a shot, and it just misses the goal. The game remains scoreless.
DE: South Newlandia seems to play a lot of slow games with few goals; I am not really used to that. It is like watching a Guards game every time.
MI: Well then, the second game will be for you.
BvS: Few minutes remain on the clock, and South Newlandia is making another desperate push for a goal. Michael Glossman and Abdurahman Bishop are now on the field for Dhruv Roy and Donald Lancaster, so it is very clear that South Newlandia is trying everything to get a goal here. Of course, throwing everything into the offense like that can leave you blank, and here comes a counter attack from Se Vende Skooma! Over the right side, the South Newlandian defense is not really getting there, Sloah is too slow, and here comes a ball into the centre, and goal! Se Vende Skooma is up by one, and Trischuk didn’t look to great on this one. This is not good.
MI: Not at all. The Elephants can’t afford yet another bad game against a weaker team.
DE: They cannot, but it was too late. South Newlandia didn’t get another goal, and the loss left them with a terrible start of just five points after five games, despite playing three games against teams from lower pots. Getting just a single point out of those three was simply not enough.
TL: We are on a tight schedule today, so we have to continue on. The next game saw the Elephants play in Walstreim, the home of the Lions, against the Natanians and Nosts. The teams are right next to each other in the pots, so this was going to be a close one, and South Newlandia would really have to win it.
MI: There was no other option.
BvS: Here comes the team, and the Walstreim City Stadium is applauding! The fans are still here, despite the bad start. Well, there were never any crazy supporters or anything, but the typical, modest support is still here, as it always was. The formation is almost the same as the most recent one, with Trischuk in the goal, Roy, Anderson, Sloah and Wright on defense, but Mohamed in defensive midfield and Lancaster left. McMora and Wallis are back, and Irving and McCabe will get another chance up front. The ball is about to roll!
TL: Schroeder, Green and Cohen are really missing at the moment, and the defensive line is still looking shaky.
BvS: Just a few minutes in, and South Newlandia has gotten a free kick from a good position. Finnley Wallis will take it, and it looks like he might try to get a flank in. He does, catching the defense off guard! Brandon Irving is there, and he gets a good header in, and João Foster has no chance! 1-0 South Newlandia, a very important goal very early on! That’s just what the arena wanted to see!
TL: If Irving would just get a bit more consistent, he would be even better. He needs to cut some of his bad days out.
DE: Maybe thatll come with age, eventually. I certainly can see the difference between my younger players and the older ones. Emir Aga from Timuria is one example.
BvS: Twenty minutes in, and the Elephants really want another goal. McMora over the right side, good possession, and he goes past Laço Tralto; pulls into the middle here, and brings it into the middle! Irving is already waiting there, and he scores! Catching the goalie on the wrong foot, and South Newlandia leads 2-0! Of course, a decent part of that goal belongs to McMora, who made this excellent dribbling there, with the 33 year old defender just too slow to stop him. A very nice goal.
DE: If Irving performs, you can basically not stop him, except with fouls, which is not really an option either. Great job by McMora there, also.
MI: McMora is always great to watch. There has been talk that he might go abroad after the season, away from the Lions, but I doubt that.
BvS: Just minutes after the goal, the Natanians and Nosts have gotten a penalty kick; and a very deserved one at that. Sloah was just very clumsy there against Rodion Gabriel da Silva, what a name, and the penalty was very much justified. Natan Nínnio Gonçalo will kick it, so it will be a showdown between the captains; here comes the shot, Trischuk in the right corner, but he just can’t reach it. They are back within one goal, the game is close again.
DE: I do think Sloah needs some more time. He is coming from Jagomir City, and he will definitely leave that after the season; but he just doesn’t have enough experience yet. With O’Neill as the other option, I cannot tell why he would be playing.
MI: He is good, but yes, he needs some time.
BvS: We are in the 39th minute now, and the Elephants have the initiative again. Here is Finnley Wallis in the centre, giving it to Dhruv Roy, who is positioned quite far upfield, and he passes it right back to Wallis! An excellent play, Wallis now alone in front of the keeper, a quick shot, and 3-1! South Newlandia is leading by two goals yet again, a really nice trick! They definitely studied that in training, a nice and unexpected idea.
DE: Indeed, very nice. It’s always harder to coordinate players from different clubs, but Wolverine is doing that well.
BvS: We are seconds away from half-time here, but the Natanians and Nosts are pushing for another goal. Here is João Márcus Munteanu, about 25 metres from the goal, and he busts out a shot! Trischuk is surprised, and the ball is placed perfectly into the corner, only 2-3 now. Trischuk didn’t actually look to great, but the shot was very good, too. The referee ends the half right then and there, and what a half it has been with five goals! Let’s hope the second half can keep up with that!
MI: Do you think Trischuk will leave the Rhinos if they miss the international business?
DE: Maybe, it’s hard to say at the moment. Jecken already has a good keeper, with Tausig, the man from Nephara, so we couldn’t get him.
TL: Well, it’s still a stretch until they actually miss, so there is time to think for everyone involved.
BvS: We are back here in Walstreim, where South Newlandia has already scored as many goals in the first half as they did in the five games before that one combined. The game is still close; the Elephants are only leading 3-2 over the Natanians and Nosts. Wolverine has decided to get O’Neill into the game for Sloah, to maybe support the defense a bit more. Just a few minutes in, and South Newlandia looks eager for more goals, here over the left side with Donald Lancaster, he plays a short pass to Brandon Irving, and he decides to dribble around the defender, and he falls! Penalty South Newlandia! It’s rare to see two penalty shots in the same day, let alone for different teams, but today is one of these days. There was minimal contact with the defender, Marcos Tarquínio Ivanov, here; I am not sure if it was enough for a penalty. I guess it’s one of those you can give and not give and be fine either way. So it’s a lucky call for the Elephants, in this case. McCabe steps up to shoot it, and looks João Foster dead in the eye. He shoots, sends the goalie into the wrong corner, and South Newlandia is up 4-2!
DE: Not a great kick actually, not too high, not really precise.
MI: Doesn’t matter, of course, if the goalie is in the wrong corner.
TL: McCabe of course planned it that way. Or maybe he just got lucky, I don’t know.
BvS: After this quick goal, the game has slowed down a little bit. For about half an hour, there were fewer shots, with both sides focusing on defense a bit more here. For South Newlandia, there were no additional changes just yet, but here is Ion Carolus dos Santos on the left side. He is going into a dribbling, and leaves Wright in the dust! A good pass into the middle, and Natan Nínnio Gonçalo only needs to lightly tap it in, a very nice goal, although it shows the weaknesses of the Elephants’ defense side again. Wright isnt looking well on this one, and neither is O’Neill; maybe their good days actually are in the past now.
TL: What do you think about that?
DE: They have a bit left, but of course, they aren’t getting younger. I do think they can do well if placed in the correct kind of system. The one Wolverine is running at the moment is often leaving the right side weak.
MI: O’Neill is only 32, he has at least three more years ahead. Now, maybe he won’t play for the Elephants anymore, but I don’t doubt he will be retiring very soon.
BvS: The game is almost over now, and South Newlandia is still holding on to that narrow lead. Gurero is in play now, and John Li is as well, replacing Dhruv Roy and Finnley Wallis. The Elephants are clearly trying to hold on to their narrow lead here. That is a long pass out of the danger zone by Philip Gurero, and suddenly, Brandon Irving has a lot of space to work with. The defenders are quite high up the field, and Irving is now running towards the goalkeeper all alone. João Foster is coming out of the goal, but Irving is able to curve him here, and goal! The Elephants lead 5-3, and with only two minutes remaining on the clock, that’s it! The Elephants take a very important win!
TL: Absolutely. With that win, the Elephants improve to eight points, and are back right in the middle of the standings.
DE: In fact, they couldn’t be more in the middle than on tied 5th place with an even 2-2-2 record and 8-8 goals.
MI: Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
TL: Actually no, we would like to be a bit better than average. That will not be easy though, South Newlandia has two difficult opponents ahead.
MI: Arent you saying that every time?
TL: First, we will have to travel to TJUN-ia, the pot four team that has been doing very well so far. Considering that the Elephants are yet to score a point abroad, this will be difficult, but anything other than a win and we can bury the last remaining hopes we might have had about qualifying for the World Cup. After that, we play the 10th seed Union Europae. They are the big surprise of the group at the moment, sitting in third place, and the game will see us return to the Sophie City Bowl. This will be the easier of the two games, but the players shouldn’t take it lightly. Speaking of, this is the first time we haven’t received the starting players in advance, with no real reason given.
DE: Maybe Wolverine has some tricks up his sleeve and doesn’t want the opponents to know just yet?
TL: That seems like the most logical option.
MI: Well, I am excited to see it, whatever it is.
TL: Sadly, we are already running out of time yet again, so this is it for this episode of the Football talk, here live on South Newlandia One. I sure hope to have you back next time!

Please just drop me a quick discord ping or a telegram if you need the lineup. Greetings, and Thanks!

The Devil Returns

Hapilopper and Acronius both gave me the green light to do things involving their players in this RP - I’m not just gonna use someone else’s player or RP about someone’s squad without their consent, am I?

Following a 3-0 victory over Megistos (which happened to be Vdara’s fourth game won by a three-goal margin in this tournament), Vdara were now going up against the highest ranked side they’d face so far. Acronius had managed to get some decent results thus far - with the Pot 5 team even managing to beat Pot 1 Eura. However, the Vdaran fanbase didn’t seem to be fazed in the slightest by this fact. If anything, their unwavering optimism only seemed to continue growing after each result - with their chants only getting louder around each stadium they travel to.

Lükækš Væñøœrëñbérghüïś was equally unfazed, and he showed it while he was giving his team talk to the players.

”Alright lads, this match is going to be a big one. We’re still unbeaten, and the fans’ll be expecting plenty of good play after the youngsters smashed Megistos, yeah? We can’t be slipping up now, especially after the draw we had earlier in the tournament. We want to put on a show for the fans at home and the fans in the stadium, and we need to prove to the top 3 seeds that we mean business, alright? We need to get this win, for Vdarans all around the world! No pressure, lads. Let’s get out there.”

And now, live coverage from Vai Sports 1!

Pre-Lineups Tune

”Well, we’re back at it again, aren’t we? The sun is shining, the waters are calm, and the skies are clear. The weather isn’t what we’re really here for though, is it? We’re here for the drama, the action and the excitement of football - and more specifically, international football! It’s one of the many sports where you can get countries from all over the world fighting over a ball, with some added flair. It’s great, isn’t it? Anyhow, we’re in Vdara, we’re at the VdarArena, and we’re going to be seeing Vdara take on Acronius! Now, a little bit more about Vdara. It’s a place where eating breakfast while standing up has become a national trend, and it’s a place where blue is the most preferred colour among citizens - with green being a close second. Putting our fun facts about breakfast and colours aside, let’s show the lineups!”

(I’m guessing you know the drill by now, or you’re just not playing the song at all. If not, that’s a shame, because the lineups tune is a banger, but if not... skip to 1:45!)

”Markos Moustakakos starts in goals for today, with Xeniadis, Giannakos and Galanatos taking up the spots in front of him. Tryfon Vlahiades will be looking to emulate his fantastic performance against Vangaziland - he’s starting at left wing-back. At the other end of the pitch, Manousos Athanas takes the right wing-back position, completing the list of defenders. Moving up into midfield, Kimon Karalas starts in central-midfield yet again, with Anargyros Stamatelis sitting slightly to his right. Sitting just behind them is Vangelis Mavroglou, who’ll be starting from the centre-defensive midfield position. Ahead of those three, we have our two strikers for today. Due to a light knock sustained in training, Nik Cosmidis is out of action, his replacement being none other than Alexis Fotellis. With the lineups over and done with, let’s just cut straight to the match, which is starting... right now!”

The match report is as follows:

1: Here we go! The match has begun, and it feels like it’ll be an exciting one, that’s for sure!
8: It’s an early corner for Vdara, as Manousos Athanas whips a cross into the box... which is caught easily by Rowland. Bit of a rubbish corner, that was.
22: Karalas has got the ball in a good position, but he can’t seem to find anybody to pass to. He makes a slight run forward and tries to score one from range... but he’s hit it straight over the bar, and into someone’s face. Ouch.
24: Pascale’s intercepted the ball in a good position, and he’s going to try and run with it. Pascale’s through on goal, he’s cut inside as he shoots... and scores! Acronius take an early lead, and very nicely, too!
34: Pascale looks like he’s trying to get his second goal here, as he’s managed to get past the midfielders... but not the defenders. David Xeniadis regains possession for Vdara with a lovely tackle.
36: It’s a free kick for Vdara, and it looks like Vlahiades will be the one to take it. He’s trying to line up his shot, he takes a few steps back, gets a good run-up towards the ball and hits it hard... but it’s over the wall, into the post, and into the feet of Fotellis to score on the rebound! It’s 1-1 to Vdara, and although it may not be their best goal, they’ll certainly treasure it right now!
45: It’s halftime here at the VdarArena, and both teams seem to be locked in a stalemate. It’s been a decent game so far, though.

The Vdaran dressing room had the players being given their usual half-time team talk by the manager, but that’s not where we’ll be focusing on today. Instead, there’s something amiss in the away changing rooms, with an infamous face seemingly going under the radar. The Acronius Manager, James Weaver, had planned to sub on Michael Fromme at halftime, but he hadn’t noticed that Michael Fromme looked a bit different from his usual self. It was almost as if it wasn’t Michael Fromme at all. In fact, ‘Michael’ bears a striking resemblance to one of the most hated men ever to grace a Vdaran football pitch - and his name is none other than Nate Ellis. Ellis gained his villain status in Vdaran football after he performed a rude gesture towards Alexis Fotellis following a bad tackle - in Vdara’s first ever football match, no less. Fotellis returned the favour with a swift boot to the face when the two teams met again, and ever since then, Ellis has been looking for revenge - and now was his perfect chance.

46: Well, the game’s finally restarted, and it looks like the opposition have made a few changes to their team, with Fromme coming on for Trésor in midfield.
60: Batalha is playing the ball nicely in the middle of the park for Acronius, and he’s lobbed it forward towards Tayeb, who tries to hit it on the volley... but it’s straight into the hands of Moustakakos.
64: Alexis Fotellis has received a pass from Mavroglou, and he’s going to try and get into a good position for a goal, as- MY WORD! Michael Fromme has just thrust his boot into Fotellis’ chest, and Fotellis collapses to the ground! It’s an immediate red card for Michael Fromme, who’s now spat on Fotellis for seemingly no reason at all! Even his teammates are trying to pull him away from Fotellis, what a spectacle this is! Acronius are down to ten men, but the good news is that Fotellis is back up on his feet, albeit clutching his chest. I can only imagine the pain he’s in right now, that would have been incredibly sore!
79: Mavroglou has got the ball now, and he’s slid it forwards towards Lazelis, who’s... been dispossessed by Papineau.
85: Tayeb has got the ball over on the right hand side, as he crosses it towards Pascale... who scores! However, the flag is up, and that goal won’t count! The away fans thought they had won it there, this will be crushing for their morale!
91: It’s a last gasp corner for Vdara, and it looks like Tryfon Vlahiades will be the one to take it. He whips it in with fantastic accuracy... and it’s volleyed in by Alexis Fotellis! The home crowd goes absolutely berserk, it’s two goals for the veteran striker! After the rollercoaster ride of a match he’s had today, it just had to be him that scored, didn’t it?
92: That’s it, the game’s over! Vdara has snatched victory in the dying seconds of the game, and in style!

Upon the squad’s return to the drsssing room, Væñøœrëñbérghüïś was simultaneously delighted and pissed off. On the one hand, his players had just managed to snatch a victory out from the jaws of a draw, but on the other, some bastard on the other team had tried to injure one of his players, and that was not on.

Væñøœrëñbérghüïś: ”Good game, lads. You really played well out there. I can’t take my mind off of that Mickey Fromage guy, though. What the fuck was he thinking, kicking one of MY players? F**king a**ehole.”

Fotellis: ”Y’know, I thought that Fromme guy looked suspicious when he came on the pitch. He reminds me a lot of someone who should not be named, if you know what I mean.”

Væñøœrëñbérghüïś: ”You’re telling me that... you know that guy?”

Fotellis: ”I think a lot of us do. Right, guys?”

There was an awkward silence for a while, before someone finally decided to break it.

Karalas: ”It was Ellis, guys. Nate Ellis, the one from Hapilopper. You remember him, right?“

The other players turned their heads toward Karalas in shock.

Giannakos: ”It couldn’t be, could it?”

Karalas: ”Well, who else would want to deliberately hurt Alexis, huh? I mean, he’s not even played any matches until today! Speaking of which, is your chest okay?”

Fotellis: ”Yeah, yeah. I think I just need to walk it off, because that kick still hurts like a bitch.”

Væñøœrëñbérghüïś: ”Enough of the gossiping, lads! We have some tough matches to prepare for, both mentally and physically. The next 3 matches will be extremely hard for us to compete in, as we’ll be coming up against the best teams in our group. The cream of the crop, you could say. I’ll tell you more at a later date, but I’m warning you now: Whatever you do, don’t underestimate the importance of these next three games. I mean it, we can’t be fucking these matches up, lads!”

Væñøœrëñbérghüïś was right. Vdara’s next two games are against none other than Timuria and Eura, who both hold the rank advantage over Vdara. However, it’s not like Vdara doesn’t have experience against high-ranked teams. In fact, Vdara has managed to topple some high-ranking opponents before. For example, during WC85, a lower-ranked Vdara managed to defeat high-flying HUElavia 3-2 - a victory made even more impressive by the fact that HUElavia had beaten Vdara 6-4 in the previous iteration of the fixture. It would take a miracle for Vdara to get more than three points in their next two games, but even miracles come true if you put your mind to it.
Come for the weather. Stay for the fitba. Leave for somewhere prettier.

Kelssek vs. Indusse post-match commentary
“...and quite frankly I’m still unsettled by what we witnessed in Bostopia and well done to Phillip Lozic to handle himself well in these circumstances. International football can be very different, shall we say.”

“What was all that. Is that what a tesseract looks like?”

“Is that when you play a high line and focus passing through the wings? That’s something which has been a good tactic against these two opponents and the quality of the link-up play has been very good when building out from wide.”

“My God, is Emperor Boston behind you, Hendy?”

“...no?” the presenter said, unconsciously clutching the promotional bottles of orange juice under the desk to make sure they were still there. They were a source of comfort and stability in troubled times.

“Anyway, I think this match Kelssek responded well to going behind, and they did very well to keep their focus, trust in the gameplan and execute it, it was a well-worked performance, no panic when Indusse levelled the match on 72 minutes, great run into the box to win the penalty by Colm Ó Tuathail, Lozic showed he could be a good defensive option.”

“Yes we are short on centre-backs, if anything, and...”

“You’re not having Emperor Boston delusions on live TV, are you?”

“Absolutely not,” he said, and was thankful that his face being caked in the orange makeup spray hid that his face had gone pale.

“Alright berks. What have you twits got for me?” Merks yelled as the crew walked into the safehouse.

Terry found the word choice startling. “What?”

“I’m trying to be more sensitive and PG rated.”

“Sometimes it’s more off-putting when it’s obvious you want to drop a C-bomb but you’re tiptoeing around it, Merks,” Talia said.

Merks made a snorting, laugh-like noise. “Ok, you total numpty. What was the special shipment you gigantic horse turds have brought to me?”

Talia held out the loot in a cardboard box. “Coffee, toilet paper, and a ball in a purple bag. I don’t know what intel you had but this’d better be good because we nearly started a war today.”

“Well, if you want occupational health and safety don’t get involved in honest business? What do you want me to say? Alright. Well then.” Merks pulled on a pair of black latex gloves and examined the bag of coffee. “Well. All this stuff seems a bit heavy for what it is, didn’t you think?” Merks tipped over the bag. Coffee beans scattered on the table and then a lump of gold fell out of it. “Well, that’s about $30,000 right there.”

He picked up one of the toilet rolls. The paper unravelled a little and then abruptly stopped. “The rest, if my sources are correct, cocaine baked into clay. They doing pottery classes out in the jungle these days. And even the dogs can’t sniff it.”

“Well, that’s not bad.” Terry said, “What about the purple bag then? Doesn’t seem very dense whatever that is.”

Carefully, she loosened the drawstring on the velvet bag and looked inside. What Talia saw invoked annoyance. “It’s a soccer ball. What the hell? Is this full of drugs too?” she handed it to Merks.

“It looks like... no. Well, it says official licensed product. But what’s so important about this that it would this be in a safe?” Merks examined the velvet bag as well, but it seemed to be just a velvet bag. “This might be a new one. Anyway, you’d better lie low for a while. I’ll work my contacts, see what’s going on here, find a buyer for this stuff. Here’s an advance on your cut. I’ll call you soon.”

Unbroken, Preview 1
Unbroken, Coming World Cup 87

Dark. Cold. Lonely. No one could see him. He was in the back of a 'food production warehouse'. There was a small room just behind one of the factory machines, hidden from view. It seemed like it used to be an old observation room through which to direct and maintain the factory space, but that had been moved twenty years ago. Major strikes which broke out into violence saw the factory supervisor on shift murdered. Thus, safety precautions for managerial staff were updated. The new manager's office and supervisory room was moved to the second floor, above the workers on the two floors below. The new office had extra safety measures, put in place following the Davis Day workers strikes. Some of them were not legalable from the place No one ever seemed to go there. So he would never be discovered there. The perfect hiding place.

"Did you do it?"

"Yes. I did as you asked. Can I go?"

"No. You think because you finished one task for me, that's it?"

"Yes?"

"Absolutely not. You're not free to go. You're mine. You no longer live your own life. You are a tool. Whatever I ask, you do it for me."

"But you said one task and you're fine."

"I never said that. You're indebted to me, because I saved you. I decide the terms of payment. I decide interest. Late fees. Everything. And trust me, you'll never pay it off."

"I never wanted to be saved. Especially by you. I never wanted to be here, but you forced me into this position."

"I don't care what I did. You are mine. You are not human anymore. You are just a thing. You don't get a say, you just do."

"No. You can't do this. Please." Two men grab him from behind, restraining him. They're strong; the grip on his arms is painful.

"Oh, but I can." He turns to leave, but hesitates a moment. "Don't bother going to the police, or running away. Wherever you go, we can find you. Trust me. There is no way out of this. Don't try, or you won't see it coming." He leaves the alley, immediately entering a black car without a numberplate.

One of the two burly men speak up. "Should we have a bit of fun?"

"Yes. Let's break him."

Message received.

Pemecutan: Adiguna | Kusuma, Wijaya, Laksana, Laksamana, Putra | Kusumawijaya, Karyadi (Setiahadi 81'), Hermawan (Wijaya 74') | Jaya (Nantha 74'), Dwipayana

Ethane 1–0 The Fortem | Zavala 26' (a. Smith)
Ethane: Araújo | Woods, Collins (Capradossi 48'), James, Turner | Zavala, Kjaer (Underwood 83'), Roberts, Headley (Montoya 58') | Cole, Smith
The Fortem: Mathews | Ortega, Gutierrez, Sawyer (Fleming 65'), Meyers | McKnight, Roy, Figueroa, Owen (Peters 71') | Black, Weiss (Estes 49')

Darkmania 0–1 Ethane | Montoya 53' (a. Wilburn-Mason)
Ethane: Araújo | Atanga, Wilburn-Mason, Capradossi (Stevens 59'), McArthur | Kjaer, Zavala (Riemann 72'), Montoya, Ford (Obrien 87' | Cole, Roberts
Darkmania: NO ROSTER PROVIDED
Darkmania came into the game courageous, and looking to upset one of their higher ranked opponents in the game. And they didn't let up. They resolutely defended, chased every ball down, and would not let The Red Kites break down their defensive line. But they did look stuck. They were unable to make much out of the very few offensive plays they had in the first half. And unlike the scoreline, the stats showed a very one-sided game - 76% possession for Ethane, 14 shots on goal, an overwhelming pass accuracy. That changed at the start of the second half. Darkmania knew they probably had one shot to take the game in their control. So they came out all guns blazing. They came close a couple of times, with a shot knocking off the top of the bar, and a shot well saved by Araújo, albeit perhaps too weak and too central in the goal to pose too much of a threat. The Red Kites were complacent. But this was a wake-up call. Darkmania could not find the breakthrough; instead it was Montoya on the counter. Darkmania overcommitted, leaving a large gap through which Montoya sent it. Wilburn-Mason, having just reclaimed the ball, saw the run and sent it all the way up the pitch, right in front of Montoya to run on to. He beat the last defender to leave it one-on-one, and was able to slot it easily under the keeper. That was all they needed. Content with their one-goal lead, The Red Kites controlled the game right to the end, resolutely defending while taking conservative chances. Props have to go to Darkmania for their defensive work, but the one mistake let them down and stole a point from them.

Ethane 1–2 Lisander | Smith 38' (a. Roberts) // Player 76' (a. Player), Player 85' (a. player)
Ethane: Araújo | Atanga, Wilburn-Mason (James 54'), Capradossi, Turner (Ryalls 54'), Underwood (Kjaer 75'), Roberts, Montoya | Smith, Burgess
Lisander: NO ROSTER PROVIDED
The Red Kites put up a good fight, but were just unable to hold on against the onslaught from Lisander in the last twenty minutes. Ethane were confidently in charge in the first half, controlling possession and the pace of the game. But they were unable to produce top quality chances. Smith missed a couple of good chances, and Burgess was not making too much of an impact. However, in the 38th minute, Burgess was able to find the back of the net off a beautiful cross by Roberts, allowing The Red Kites to take the lead. Again, they were content with the one-goal lead, which can be a mistake and it was against Lisander. Two defensive substitutions saw the dynamic of the game shift, and Lisander began to gain the upper hand. They then proceeded to chuck everything and the kitchen sink at The Red Kite defence, and were able to break it with a goal in the 76th minute. A loss of confidence led from there, and a mistake by James saw Lisander gain another chance which they took with ease, just minutes before the end of the game.

Previews
Lo Santano vs Ethane
Lineup: Araújo | Woods, Collins, Capradossi, McArthur | Zavala, Riemann, Obrien, Headley | Cole, Classie
The difficulty of this game does not lie in the opponent. While the opponent should be able to put up a good fight, this is a team that The Red Kites should be able to beat. With a full strength team. This isn't a full strength team - far from it. Some of the top players - Smith, Burgess, Montoya, Wilburn-Mason - are being rested for perhaps the most difficult and important fixture of the group. The Red Kites are away to Brenecia - the top pot team in this group, and the ones likely to win the group overall.

Brenecia vs Ethane
Lineup: Araújo | Woods, Wilburn-Mason, James, Turner | Underwood, Kjaer, Montoya, Headley | Smith, Burgess
The toughest game of the group for The Red Kites. World Cup champions. Perennial winners of the Campionato Esportiva. Brenecia's pace and pressing will make Ethane's defensive line uncomfortable, and build ups difficult. The greatest chance for Ethane most likely relies on the counter, but even that will be difficult with their back-line. This is a game that The Red Kites can win - but they're going to have to give everything.

Orion suffers another defeat, Rennell out as manager

The Orionite squad was once again a participant in a controversial match, as the Eagles lost to Twicetagria by a score of 2-1. In contrast to Orion's other games in this one the Orionites went on the attack early and often. The Orionites pushed down the field repeatedly, and adopting new tactics rather quickly, played a special formation in witch the midfielders combined with the forwards and star defender Lloyd Barnes formed a seven man wall of attack to give the Eagles an advantage over the enemy's five man defensive front. The un orthodox strategy seemed to be paying off, as Lloyd Barnes found himself with a wide open lane to Craig Ferguson. Ferguson managed to fake out three Twicetagria defenders before putting it in the net, not withstanding the leaping effort of Jamie Han. The goal was scored in the 11th minute. After that, Twicetagria found the weaknesses in the Orionite swarm and used what is known as The Hitback Tiki-taka. Their defenders managed to stop an Orionite attack, and passed to their midfielders. Their four midfielders and one striker soon overwhelmed the three defenders left in the Orionite half. Clinton Maxwell soon proved equal to the task of stopping this attack, as he made several leaping saves of his own. The Eagles soon switched back to playing a standard 4-4-2 formation. This greatly relieved the pressure on Maxwell, however, Jamie Han stopped the two shots the Eagles got, as both sides only got two more shots on the nets in the first half. At the 51 minute mark, The Hitback Tiki-taka proved to be too much for the Orionite defense and forcing Maxwell to make an incredibly dangerous save. He had to dive head first to stop a scoring opportunity, but paid dearly for it. He caught his arm between his torso and the hard turf. Although the x-rays showed only minor damage, Maxwell was in too much pain to keep playing. Acting Manager Caleb Rennell played Dewey Curtis in goal after that. Later on, as the Orionite defenders got more and more tired, Twicetagria deployed The Pressuremaker. After Craig Ferguson misplayed the ball, it was stolen and quickly passed around the midfield to tire out the defense, before finding Augustin Vladimirescu for the equalizer in the 82nd minute. A poorly played kickoff by the Eagles allowed another Pressuremaker attack, to finish off the worn out Orionites. Vladimirescu had an easily blocked shot, if it were not for the worst played ball by an Orionite goalkeeper in history. Curtis made a move that coaches tell players not to make starting in middle school, leading to the defeating goal with just 15 seconds left to full time. In an apparently knee jerk reaction to the last second defeat, the Orionite Soccer Football Association announced that Rennell had been demoted back to Chief Assistant Manager, and that Thad Chase would resume his role as manager. Rennell won games against Mercedini and the Busoga Islands. Thad Chase has announced his lineup against West Angola.
GK Jason Sparks
DF Bryan Thornton (Centerback)
DF Arturo Cohen (Centerback)
DF Marcus Silva (Fullback)
DF Jean Guzman (Fullback)
MF Luke Simpson (Center midfielder)
MF Craig Ferguson (Center midfielder)
MF Nicolas Reese (Side midfielder)
MF Rudy Bowman (Side midfielder)
FW Damon Henderson
FW Steven Keller
His decision to play a third string goalie and three second string defenders, along with Marcus Silva (who is facing a criminal investigation) has drawn widespread condemnation and ridicule from all, with many saying that Rennell should have been allowed to remain manager until the end of qualification. It has also been noted that Jason Sparks has never played professional soccer, with him still playing for Barrier Islands University. The lineup against Baker Park is
GK Dewey Curtis
DF Arnold Howard (Starting center back)
DF Randall Hunter (Starting center back)
DF Lloyd Barnes (Starting full back)
DF Manuel Oliver (Starting full back)
MF Luke Simpson (Starting center midfielder)
MF Craig Ferguson (Starting center midfielder)
MF Herman Boyd (Starting side midfielder)
MF Rudy Bowman (Starting side midfielder)
FW Damon Henderson
FW Steven Keller
The decision to bench Clinton Maxwell for both games has lead to accucastions that the SFA is covering up the extent of his injury, that Chase is resentful of the fact that a player for Coastal FC is become a star at the expense of players for his Mariners FC club, and that Chase hates Rennell's success. Chase has also publicly said he fully expects Orion to lose by a combined 14 goals to both squads. There are rumors that Mariners is looking for a way to distance itself from the manager. A YouTube video of his comments has quickly earned over 250,000 dislikes, with the comments section rife with often obscene calls to fire the manager.

The Beet

A The Beet Exclusive!: An actual interview actually with the actual John Nicholas Rosencrants
Why Saltstead’s head coaches all seem to be as dumb as rocks is known only to God, but we actually convinced another head coach to do this…

Image
A pictorial representation of Saltstead’s World Cup qualifying campaign

Ashwell — As the nation of Saltstead attempts to figure exactly what the hell has been happening in the last twelve months, we decided to take a look inside King William VII National Park once again to see what’s happening. It’s not good, folks. We shit you not, the Stallions are rock bottom of this group thanks to some absolute stinkers. Five defeats in six games is enough to make you want to trot out a guillotine and go all Omerican on a head coach’s arse and separate it from his head.

We have only just realised the joke we have inadvertently made. We have a feeling that all recent advances in Saltsteadish-Omerican relations are about to be thrown out the window after this interview is done, to be honest.

Oh yeah, because apparently the man we got in to replace Tlanx-Nulzk Hal has also agreed to an interview

The Beet: Well, we did not expect this, but thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to be here today.

John Nicholas Rosencrants: Well, of course. The pleasure is all mine, to be honest.

TB: So I think you know what the first question is: Why do you hate Saltstead?

JNR: (laughs in Omerican) It must’ve been something in the water growing up. You know what the taps are like in the Seafoam Islands.

TB: You mean the Qusma Islands, surely?

JNR: Oh, of course. I forgot. The old Premier’s Death to Humans cover band is actually really good. I’ve got some of their CDs if you’d like to borrow them.

TB: Who is supposed to be asking the questions in an interview?

JNR: Right. You are. My mistake.

TB: Great. So is this all part of your revenge plan?

JNR: Pardon?

TB: Omerica’s plan for revenge against Saltstead. Set off some kind of time-warp business, bring in a head coach to sabotage the Stallions and then prevent us from getting the fourth straight win we need to claim a republic from you in the name of His Majesty the King.

JNR: (stares in Omerican) I thought you had a Queen.

TB: (checks notes in Saltsteadish) No one really knows anymore, but is this part of your plot?

JNR: I didn’t realise there was a plot. I’ll ask the United Republican Soccer Federation when I do my weekly check-in later.

TB: We really wanted those Emerald Isles, you know. Much better than those dinky Seafoam Islands.

JNR: No offence to my Emeraldian friends, but I’ll kindly disagree. The Qusmi’y beat you to the best islands.

TB: Noted. So why have you come here to ruin our World Cup campaigns?

JNR: Everyone came together and agreed that the new football philosophy just wasn’t working for Saltstead, so they wanted a head coach who was more “in tune” with the Saltsteadish ethos. Who better to do that than someone of Saltsteadish blood?

TB: We could have built a massive supercomputer. I think that’s what the Electrumites have been doing and it hasn’t not worked badly for them so far.

JNR: I’m not sure that’s technologically feasible, factually accurate or grammatically sound.

TB: (under breath) Right, a grade A smartass, then.

(beat)

TB: Kryosis or Quebec?

JNR: Quebec. I could use some practice with my Gallic.

TB: But Kryosis are just over the border. There’s no guarantee you’ll survive being catapulted to Quebec.

JNR: I say you should built a trebuchet if you’re going to fling me out of the country. It’s much cooler and significantly more efficient, I hear.

TB: We will take that into consideration at the next design committee meeting. And now for our final question: Are you ready to be fired continuously?

JNR: Just find the monks who will accepted those totally inflated yen and I’m game.

TB: You, sir, are no fun.

JNR: Thank you.

TB: Thank you for your time, John, and may we unfire you swiftly!

JNR: I hope we may too!

Well, that was a complete waste of time. It appears that our new head coach is a certifiable dolt. It’s no wonder even a Coalison can beat us nowadays! We’ll keep you updated on the progress of The Official The Beet Head Coach Flinging Device™ and pray that some halfway decent results intervene to prevent its deployment. —TB

Now with Video!

Hello, all! Jordan here. Now, you're probably wondering where Kimi Jin is... She's taking the day off visiting family - I think she said it was her mom's birthday. Instead, you're stuck with me for a day!

Kimi has been going around all the different local taverns and pubs in the host cities, and she was going to take Josiah Waterman's advice and visit Jim's. Now that plans have come up, though, we've postponed that trip to Jim's. Don't you worry, Urrheddiaoans, she'll visit your lovely city during the mid-qualifying break.

After Olimpia Vidal's precise strike in injury time, the Chromatiks sit at 4-1-1, good for thirteen points and second in their group. Xanneria and Banija remain on the docket, and will be true tests - though it's obvious to tell that in the last three matches, it's the usual starting XI that will get to play.

Honestly, it's been good to see the Anomalies have the clutch factor again, having won three out of four games by one goal. The bad news is that they're conceding so many goals to these lower seeded teams in the group. It'd be nice to see a stomp for once, you know?

I do appreciate that Velens and Sanders are sticking to the fifty-person roster. Way more fun to see people who would normally not get to play get a shot. Great to see the likes of Wang Yuan, Ignace Thibodeaux, Nina Pomeroy, and Nadezhda Odling continue to get caps. Great to see that Vasiliy Kuznetsov and the like can still score goals.

The biggest question is, how in shape are the Starting XI?

Perhaps the biggest question mark is whether or not the "Golden Five" will actually take over. Kai Xiao, Henri de Aea, Valence Ilya, Enigma Armageddon, and Hermaeus Mora have been touted as the new faces of Chromatik football; they are the ones that are supposed to - along with Olimpia Vidal, Kai Dias, and Giles Ken - bring Chromatika to its next phase of existence. This is the first cycle where all of them are actually in the positions of power needed to accomplish their goals.

Give it a cycle or two, and even Ferret Tioux will be added to the mix.

That's not to discount the women - Retta Conrad, Mia Ria, Kaytlyn Victoriane (and behind her, Molly Thorben and Whitney Kelly), and the trio of Keira Andisori, Beaunia Andisori, and Rowena Sierra should not be discounted. Pay homage to history before you dare to step into the future, lest you forget where you came from, right?

This is for certain - when Xanneria comes to The Islander Dome, the cannons will be ready to fire, the Anomalies faithful will be at full throat, and the Golden Generation of Chromatik boys will be ready to show the world that this era of Chromatik football did in fact belong to them.

We have the same number of points as we had in Matchday 12 last cycle. Yes, that was how bad things were back then. Those days are in the rear-view mirror...

Analysis done last cycle showed that a team needs 60% to 70% of total available points to qualify. There are eighteen games this cycle, setting the total points at fifty-four. Sixty percent is thirty-three points, and seventy is thirty-eight. Wins over Tamgu and Xanneria would place Chromatika at pace for seventy. Any result on the road to Banija will be great.

Oh, and here's a newsflash: Keri Wyse Aart, members of her cabinet, and The Enlightened known as The Hope will be making their way to the Stadium of the Restoration in Busukuma, National Capitol (capacity of 91,835). It's going to be a massive spectacle, and the return leg where they'll be hosted in the Capitalizt Dome on the final matchday? Pure drama.

To be six matches in and still be excited about the team is a good place to return to for us Anomalies fans. Hopefully this will return to being the norm, and we'll continue to march forward.

Kimi Jin will return with her report from Myana. Until then, it's been Jordan Lawless. Goodnight, Chromatika.

Pasarga 0–1 Megistos

"One last chance for the Megistian squad, can they make it a win? Robertson with the cut, AND OH MY LORD THEY HAVE DONE IT! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! LAM! WHAT A STUNNING END TO THE GAME AS MEGISTOS HAVE GOT THIS ONE IN THE BAG AS LAM SCORES THE HEADER!

And then the celebrations came. It's not everyday that your newbie not-even-top-200 beats a world class team. And that team was Pasarga, the team that is currently sitting in 2nd place. Despite the 3-nil loss to Vdara, they were still celebrating like crazy. And you can't stop them. Megistos, despite being the 8th pot team, is currently sitting in 5th, 1 position behind the semi-ultimate goal of Megistos, the 4th place. Here at MIN Sports we have the coverage of the game.

Commentators: Alan Howwler, Mark Esneton

1':
"The game has started, with Megistos kicking off. Mark, predictions?"
"I'm thinking a 3-0 win for Pasarga. They are obviously one of the best in the world, and this is Megistos' first World Cup Qualifier Cycle. They didn't even make the quarterfinals of the Baptism of Fire, so they can't do the job against Pasarga."
"I'm also on the same viewpoint, but a 2-1 win for Pasarga is more likely. Megistos' defense has been very great, only allowing 9 goals in 6 games. However, if you look on the attack, very few goals."

4':
"Müller with the first real chance of the game, she dribbles past Fran and the BALL GOES PAST THE GOALKEEPER BUT FRI KEEPS IT OUT WITH A CLEARANCE! Gersten with the ball now, he whips in the cross, ANOTHER GREAT CHANCE FOR MULLER, BUT THE HEADER GOES TO BECK'S FACE!"
"That was a close one, Alan. Megistos has to be more careful."
"Agreed."

10':
"Lam with the ball, he spots Robertson's run AND A GOAL! MEGISTOS MAKE IT 1-0 WITH ROBERTSON SCORING! A CHIP TO THE GOALKEEPER AND TO THE BACK OF THE NET IT TRAVELED, 100% GOING IN! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!"

11':
"The Pasargan team has called for offside, and the referee is going to VAR. Now that we get the closer look, Mark?"
"That's offside, look at Robertson's toe just stretched past the offside line."
"Referee calls for offside, and you are correct."

15':
"Muller with another chance, he swings it in, BUT it just whirls past the post!"
"A good chance, but another wasted one. Pasarga need to get shots on target, and they need to have the clinical needs of the shot. Otherwise, we could be wrong on our bets."

25':
"Robertson running down the lane, he spots Jorgenson, Jorgenson with the ball, he passes to Cringan who shoots... but it goes directly at the keeper."
"That was a good chance, but he didn't convert. He should have passed to Lukovic instead of shooting, who had an open net in front of him."

32':
"Muller passes back to the midfield, the ball goes back to Muller, he fakes off Jorgenson and runs past Fran, and JUST MISSES!

45+2':
"It is half-time right now, we'll see you after the break. 0-0 for the score right now, with equal amounts of possession and shots.

46'':
"Second half starts, Pasarga kicking off at their home. 0-0."

48'
"Howard with the ball, he passes back to Fran, he lobs it over to Lam, AND GERTSON SLIDE-TACKLES HIM FROM BEHIND! THAT HAS TO BE A CARD, AS JORGENSON HAD A WAY CLEAR ON GOAL!"
"I agree, Alan. That has to be a yellow or red. Probably the former."
"Ref brings out the yellow, your thoughts?"
"I agree. That is a yellow."
"Anyway, Lam with the freekick, he shoots from range, AND ALMOST SCORES BUT IT TIPS OFF THE CROSSBAR!"

50'
"Voross starts the counter attack, he passes to Muller, he dribbles past Lam, past Fran, past Fri, past the GOALKEEPER BUT HE GETS SLIDE-TACKLED BY WILLIAMS! THAT HAS TO BE A RED CARD!
"The red card has been given, Megistos are down to two men, Muller walks up to take the penalty..."
"SAVE! BECKS WITH THE SAVE! AMAZING! AND MULLER CAN'T SCORE AS HE SHOOTS THE WRONG WAY!"

79'
"Fran with a chance, he passes to Jorgenson, he dummies it and Cringan receives it, he crosses it in... but the head of Lukovic goes wide."

90'
"One last chance for the Megistian squad, can they make it a win? Robertson with the cut, AND OH MY LORD THEY HAVE DONE IT! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! LAM! WHAT A STUNNING END TO THE GAME AS MEGISTOS HAVE GOT THIS ONE IN THE BAG AS LAM SCORES THE HEADER"

Dr. Cagnon will be challanged in SFA Leadership

by Sport Desks
Springmont Football Association (SFA) President Dr. Basil Cagnon has not decided to continue to lead the top leadership of the country's football governing body for the term 2021-2025.

He said it was still too early for him to make any decision, but would announce it after considering a few things, especially the responsibility that must be shouldered in upholding the national football arena. "Let me think first because to take the position is not just to get support but to definitely come with responsibilities, especially it involves football, the number one sport in Springmont. It is not easy, ”he said. Dr. Cagnon was the former Chair, Port Knoxdam FC before being appointed as the seventh president of the SFA for the remainder of the 2017-2021 term.

Meanwhile, several delegates and members of the SFA coalition expressed support for Dr. Cagnon to remain president at the end of the congress which took place in accordance with compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP). Rumors say Dr. Cagnon will be challenged by a team led by Springmont Super League CEO, Dr. Russel Konbert Deyfrose who is also the former manager of the Springmont National Team. The team is also joined by a number of former national players such as Amado Hochstein and Arnulfo Feraco.

World Cup 86 Qualifiers

EXPECTATIONS MET
Matchdays 5 & 6 Review:
Nephara 3-2 New Lusitania (Eagle's Club Stadium, Brinemouth - Att: 73 901)
New Lusitania 2-0 Havynwilde (Estádio da Pedreira, Braga - Att: 32 130)

The following game on the calendar wasn't the most encouraging to start a comeback as the Selecção travelled to the World's Number 2, Nephara. Supposedly hosted in Brinemouth's huge stadium, it would be an intimidating atmosphere for the Lusitanian. For New Lusitania, Patríce back in goal as Vinagrete, Leiteiro, Nogueira and Cancela stood by in defence. Horta, Fernando, Gama and Veiga in his attacking role were in the midfield as Trincal and Silveira started the match, after Jota became absent due to a recent injury. Fernando's worries had been over as it had been minor, being ready before the third round of games in the autumnal November. Nephara pitched a traditional 4-4-2 as Mercator would be stopping the shots, as Stride, captain Thorn, Brosch and Muscadin served as the defensive wall with Kuepper, Shone, Moxham and Deventer in the middle of the park leaving Bastable and Lovelace as the dynamic duo up front.
The tie started as a great lock between midfield forces where the ball seemed interchangeable between the two sides. The first goal nonetheless, didn't take too long to appear as Shone shined on the occasion with a great swerve of the ball into the net. A rare occasion but one that could've been avoided as it was a result of a loose ball in midfield. Regardless, New Lusitania attempted to get back into the swing of the game and seriously challenged the Nepharans in plays and quality we hadn't seen since the end of the previous Qualifying adventure. Paciência came off the bench just before the half-hour mark due to a problem with Trincal and was quick to contribute. A cross from Sevilha winger Gama saw him stick his foot out for a shot as the opposition expected the chance from Veiga. The home side wasn't giving up that easy however and the Selecção seemed to be taking a small breather since the equaliser in the hopes of taking it to halftime as Bastable exploited Cancela who gave a bit too much space and let him into the box, giving the Moths the lead once more with a goal which prodded nearly into the net. After Halftime, the tension rose. A free-kick conceded by Brosch gave New Lusitania a chance to equalise when Fernando shot it in from a considerable distance into the top left corner to the jubilation of the small away crowd. All tied up once more.
The decision for Nepharan coach Strauss to take off one forward in a situation like this seemed odd at most but soon gave fruits. Horta was caught out and gave Mrdja space enough to find the cross. With Deventer waiting in the box, a good tap-in made the Lusitanians look a tad silly and it gave the home side the three points. Plenty of questions to be answered following the defensive mistakes of the match, in which New Lusitania could've taken points and shown something real. Despite the defeat, the public opinion was that for the opponent the result was expected and yet respectable with some already hoping the 5-0s of the past.
Back home, the team travelled to the green fields of the Minho to play Havynwilde in Braga. With some confidence coming out of the game, some changes were made. Cancela and Horta were held for their defensive mistakes being replaced by Pedralva and Guerra. Marco Pereira was given his first international appearance, being called-up from the Extended Team in Trincal's place. At the quarry ground, the team seemed to attempt to continue what they were doing in Nephara to some extent. The first goal however would only come around the forty-second minute, laying the foundation for the following half. An assist by Vinagrete, a goal for Gama was easily set up to open the scores with a good header. In the second half, New Lusitania attempted to play tactically and get possession of the ball. The second goal defined the result as a victory and came in the late seventy-odd minutes resulting from Silveira's well-placed low shot giving him only his second goal of the cycle. Finally the second win came and the team seemed to be extremely happy with this result, which they hoped meant the sign of better things to come.
In the standings, New Lusitania move up to a disappointing eighth ahead of Havynwilde following the win, being however, five points way from second in an unpredictable group. Hwiccemark picked up their first points with a win against the Minarchist Free State (2-3) in the second game, pulling them down to seventh alongside Sharktail who received defeats from Baptism of Fire winners Mavinet (3-4) as well as Nephara (2-4) at home. Terre Septentrionale's two draws to Damukuni and Havynwilde (both 2-2) mean they're only one point off in fifth alongside Damukuni who also drew the Minarchists by the same margin. Unimon surprises as they move up to third after a victory to second placed Mavinet by 0-1 following a win again Hwiccemark (0-2) two points off the debutant's champion. Nephara obviously remain first after another two flawless outings meaning they're at the top without losing a single point, something Ko-oren, Banija, Farfadillis and The Holy Empire can also celebrate at this point, with all teams already gaining at least a point in the opposite side of the spectrum. Up next in the new year, in the cold month of January, it's the away fixture at a tough Damukuni as well as an important game against Hwiccemark which all pundits and fans consider a must-win. With the team finally showing glimpses of its previous outing, many are saying Grilo might just Survive the cycle with the team, but it's obvious that the main objective is to get back on track and these next two matches will be key in what has been a very complex and confusing road to the World Cup!

Goals> Silveira (2), Veiga (1), Jota (1), Paciência (1), Fernando (1), Gama (1)
Assists> Gama (2), Fernando (1), Horta (1), Vinagrete (1)

Sindvpore Football Club launched a new era of greatness with the launch of their all-new badge, which was projected across Sindunagar Town Hall on Friday night.

On 6th May 2021, Sports Society Group finalized their take over of Indusse First Division club, Sindvpore Football Club. During the takeover there were rumours of a rebarand. The rumours were substantiated on 7th May by Sports Society Group designated chairman, Olivier Phiri. In an interview with Zcomm sports, chairman Phiri said: "The rumours of a rebrand are true. Sindvpore FC will be getting a new badge which will stay as close as possible to past historical badges of the clubs. Sindvpore Football Club will not be changing its name anytime soon, the rebrand will mostly be fine tuning the image of the club, getting new kits, a badge, new website, merch and sponsors. All these changes to kick off a new era of excitement and greatness. I assure the fans that the changes will not go against the ethos, history and culture of the club. The board will be working closely with the fans so that the rebrand is successful." Now after months after plans of a rebrand were announced the new Sindvpore badge has been unveiled. The badge has come out following a 30-day consultation period with Desert Rangers supporters, which revealed resounding support for the new badge. The supporters were given a chance to have a say on the colours and elements featured on the badge. The feedback was used to make the badge look the way it does today.

The next coming days will be very busy in Sindvpore as the stadium, Sindvpore FC Store, Sindvpore FC bar and other places undergo a transformation as they get updated with the new badge and look. About 10000 items featuring the new badge are to be produced and seatbacks at Sports Society Park to be replaced. All this will be a happening in preparation for the new Indusse First Division season which will see former Ziwana national team manager, Harry Ngonamo take the helm as new Sindvpore FC manager. The news of Harry Ngonamo becoming Sindvpore manager has gurnered interest from Ziwani football lovers who are now asking who are Sindvpore FC.
WHO ARE SINDVPORE FOOTBALL CLUB.

Sindvpore Football Club is an Indussean football club located in Sindunagar, Sindvpore. The club was founded on February 15th 1911 by a group of camel and goat herders. The club was named Eagle Beaks FC to instill fear in the clubs opponents. Eagles in Sindunagar were very notorious for snatching goat kids, babies and small mice. The clubs first match was against Ziwani football club, Eshan FC who had been founded 6 years earlier. The match was played in Sindvpore on March 5th 1911 with a crowd of 12000 people present to witness the historic moment. In 1911 Sindvpore was a dangerous place well known for its common robberies, massacres and drunkeness. The introducing of a new club in the area changed things for better especially in 1912 when the Sindvpore Oil Company became the new owners of the club and begun drilling oil in the area. New jobs were created, roads built and schools built. This reduced crime in the area and took off a whole generation off the streets thus insuring the success of the city in the future. In 1926 Sindvpore Oil Company went bankrupt and the club was bought out by the Sindvpore City Council who renamed the club as Sindvpore Football Club. During this time the team was nicknamed the Desert Rangers by opposition teams and it stuck. The team was bought by a Indusse millionaire in 1980, however due to terrible management the club went into administration between 2020 and 2021 only being saved by the fans through a consortium. Currently the club plays in the Indusse First Division ( Second Division) and has Indussean international, Budjedtson as its captain. With the take over of the club on 6th May 2021 by Sports Society the club hopes that they can get promoted to the Liga Prime and become the best football club in Indusse.
MEANING AND HISTORY OF SINDVPORE FC BADGES.

Image

The very first logo of Sindvpore FC then Eagle Beaks in 1911 was the intials of the club EB. Due to insufficient funds the EB was drawn unto the shirt of the players using paint. The EB was written in the Indussean script, it was simple and got the job done.
Image

In 1912 after being bought by Sindvpore Oil Company once again the logo was changed. The new logo had the initials of Eagle Beaks EBF written in the Brittanian script in a creiptus font inside a shield with 3 stars at the top. One would think the 3 stars would be their to personify the number of championships the club had won, however the 3 stars were only there for decorative purpose purposes.
Image

In 1926 owner were changed and Eagle beaks became Sindvpore FC, with that the logo was changed again. For the first time in its history the Sindvpore golden desert eagle was included in the badge, the colours included a different green and old gold. the 4 green vertical lines on the logo stood for the 4 pillars of society which are unity, loyalty, obedience and discipline. The badge had both a monogram of Sindvpores initials in Brittanian script and the full name of Sindvpore FC in Indussean script. The 3 stars from the previous logo were retained.
Image

In 1981 due to copy right problems Sindvpore FC was forced to abandone the eagle. The stars with no meaning remained though, to make matters worse the club was still trophyless.

CONCEPT BEHIND THE NEW BADGE

Image

The new badge takes elements from the past Sindvpore badges to make the modern sleek look that it is. The eagle comes backs, a new lighter green is used, the old gold remains and sun raises are added to signify the dawn of a new era under Sports Society Group. The three stars with no meaning have finally been removed, this is great as the team can now work towards gaining stars through merit. Now as Sindvpore FC begin a new era, Zcomm Sports has partnered with the club to make a documentary titled "Rise or Fall ?". To view Sindvpore FC games visit http://www.zcommsports.com.

Now from pseudo-name "footballLover1093".
"Ion Públius Apilescu, good morning".Good morning."I will have the opportunity to be at Arenă N-City for the next game of the WCQ,against Southern Palm Island. It will be my first time watching our national squad play live. But seeing how bad the performance has not been as good,I am afraid it might take from the experience,so I ask you, what i your advice in a situation like this?"
Ah,seeing the national team for the first time,ehh...?Well,that seems nice, going to the stadium, having a good time with your fellow countrymen, maybe even get to know some foreigners.Yup,that per se seems good enough, and about our team losing,yeah...,it's something to be expected,so my advice for you,"footballLover1093",is to just enjoy the match, which will probably be of high quality, and if Natanians and Nosts wins great,if it loses,it's surely not great, but you still might have other chances to see them on field.
From pseudo-name "hardcover books".
"Ion Públius Apilescu, good morning!".Good morning."I saw the last match of mr. Vit on T.V. and now I am wondering,if he were still in the national team, would have made any difference,I think it would not,but what is your opinion, since we are getting close to the mid-qualifying break."
Well,I do think he might have made some difference, but seeing how he's been playing since our first WCQ match, and that the team has been playing more differently this cycle,I would say taht would have make things difficult to him, combined with the fact that he is usually the sole attacking midfielder,as popposed to the two we're currently playing with,he might not have been the best choice."
And that was it for the first round of mails received for today!Remebering the next matches,of this...different...WCQ are Southern Palm Islands at Arenă N-City in N-City and Tikariot at Oceanview Park, oooo what a beautiful and fancy name for a stadium,in Rhovannyr,Tikariot. Now you will stay with a beautiful piece of Natanians and Nost Romantic music. This is Ion Públius Apilescu and you are listening to Pseudo-public Pseudo-Radio!

“I can’t believe he did that!”

“Hm?”

Catherina Trahan stared at her best friend. She wasn’t shocked that Ronanenn des Ligneris didn’t share her indignance, she usually didn’t go in for that, but the extremely placid response was a surprise. Catherina pressed on. “The barker! He had his arm around you the entire time we were on the carousel.”

Ronanenn dreamily smiled. “Oh that. That was nice of him.”

Catherina was starting to get the picture. “So you didn’t mind?”

“I mean, he clearly was just making sure I didn’t fall off,” suggested Ronanenn, obviously making an excuse.

“Clearly.” Catherina nodded. “So what do-”

Her efforts to completely clarify the matter was cut off by shouting, from the direction of the carnival.

“You!” A middle-aged woman marched up to Ronanenn, pointing a finger in her face. “If I ever see you around my carnival again, young lady, I will throw you right out!”

Both girls were almost too shocked to speak, and took a second to get their bearings. Ronanenn seemed like she was about to try and defend herself, but Catherina took the lead. “What’s this about?”

The woman kept her eyes on Ronanenn. “You letting my barker fool around with you! My God,” she failed to respond to the question asker.

The original question asker then shared her thoughts. “I don’t see the problem,” Catherina said dismissively.

This got the attention of the woman. She whipped around, finger still pointing, now at the interloper. “You stay out of this!”

Both young ladies were back to being just baffled, before a male voice called out contemptuously. “Jacasser, jacasser, jacasser!” A man walked up from behind the woman, who turned to face him. She opened her mouth to speak, but the man cut her off. “Jacasser!

Catherina recognized him. He was the barker at the carnival, the one who had his arm around Ronanenn. She looked to her left at Ronanenn, who clearly recognized him as well. The barker leaned back and crossed his arms, observing the scene. “What’s going on here, Mrs. Mesgeiciere?”

The carnival was Mesgeiciere’s Carnival, so she must be the owner, surmised Catherina. The owner was using her prerogative to forbid customers. “See this girl right here?” She said, pointing at Ronanenn. “If she ever has the audacity to step foot in my carnival again, I want you to throw her right back out!”

The barker said nothing, looking the now banned customer slowly up-and-down. He was silent for a moment, before asking a question.

“What’s your name?” Catherina knew he wasn’t asking her, his gaze hadn’t even darted her way. The response came from her left.

“Ronanenn des Ligneris.”

The barker nodded. “I’m Breval Bruet. You can come to the carnival anytime you wish, and if you don’t have money for a ticket I’ll treat you to a ride.”

Mrs. Mesgeiciere was apoplectic. “Alright, that’s it Breval. You don’t get to use my carnival for your own purposes. Your services are no longer required! I certainly don’t need you as a barker around here. How do you like that?”

“If you say so Mrs. Mesgeiciere,” Bruet responded serenely, eyes still on Ronanenn. Mrs. Mesgeiciere looked rocked. She stepped forward, acted like she wanted to speak, looked as if she wanted to take her words back, but stopped herself. With a huff, she whirled around and stormed off.

“So.” The now ex-barker said, putting his hands into his pockets. “I guess I’m fired. Ah well, not the first time.”

Ronanenn looked dismayed, clearly not liking that someone had been fired on her behalf. “Will...will you be okay?”

“Sure.” He said calmly.

Catherina was just as gob-smacked as her friend “What are you going to do now?” She asked him.

Breut gestured back to the carnival. “First, I’m going back to get my things.” He then gestured to Ronanenn. “You stay here, and when I’m back we’re going for a drink. That’ll be second.”

Catherina understood implicitly that she was not invited. “Ronanenn,” she gently said, “We’ve got to get back to catch the boat to Saida. We have work tomorrow…”

“No, that’s fine.” Ronanenn cut her friend off with a definiteness Catherina wasn’t familiar with. “It’ll be fine if I join Breval for a drink.”

Catherina was feeling uncomfortable about the suddenness of everything. “Then...how about I come with you two. I’d love to-”

Breval cut her off. “I didn’t invite you.”

‘Hey!” Catherina was about to give the barker a piece of her mind when Ronanenn spoke up. “I’ll be fine.” She pulled out her phone. “I’ll give you a call later. You can tell the landlady I stayed out late on my own accord.”

Catherina was struck that Ronanenn was absolutely not leaving with her. Breval spoke up again. “Like I said Ronanenn. You stay here, and when I’m back we’re going for a drink.”

Despite Catherina’s best efforts, Ronanenn stayed there, and then went for a drink.

Life in the Seventh Star

Part Two

Mateo was almost asleep at the breakfast table as he chewed his toast half-heartedly. He didn’t have the energy to eat, and even on the best of days, bread in post-war Sameba more closely resembled sawdust than wheat. Sat across from him was Natalie, his seventeen year old sister. As always, it was time for her morning political vent. ‘You don’t understand mother. This is important to me! I’ve spent fucking months trying to organise this, and the school won’t let me? It’s fucking bullshit!’
‘Watch your words, Natalie. Speak like a pig and people will treat you like one.’ Sameban idioms often involved pigs, but there was no pork or bacon in this meal; Natalie threw down her plate and gave her mother a loathing stare. ‘Maybe if you just helped me organise, we could get people like us in charge, and we could provide for the people. So we don’t have to lick boots and eat this shit.’

Their mother sighed and shook her head as she calmly pushed the plate back towards her daughter. ‘When I was your age I was the same you know. I speak from experience. Just finish your food, get ready for school and stop obsessing over your little club.’
‘Committee, mother.’
‘Right. Club.’
‘Why do you have to be like this? At least Prisco cares.’
‘Prisco cares all right, about one thing and one thing only. I’ve told you how I feel about that boy.’ Rossana could see so much of her younger self in Natalie and had spent a lot of time and energy trying to keep her on course. Experience had taught her that womanhood is not easy in most places, and certainly not in Sameba, a country where misogyny bordered on a national sport. Hell, being an adult in this country was a challenge, no matter your sex or any other characteristic. Natalie was on the cusp of adulthood and would have to learn how to survive, one way or another. But young activists in Sameba, especially left wing ones? They have a habit of ending up dead.

Sat to Rossana’s left was the other adult in the house, Uncle Medoro. He was always awkward in these situations and sought to shift the subject onto less explicitly political ground, and put a point diplomatically where Rossana was in no mood to do so. ‘You know Natalie, I think it’s great you’re doing things you enjoy. What you could do is sort out the school first, and do what you want to do outside. It’s important you get your grades too.’
‘I know Uncle, but it shouldn’t have to be that way. Why can’t it be part of school? We spent years under fascist dickheads, and then the Eurans come along and promise we can talk about these things and take action. Only we can’t. Fucking southies.’ Medoro shifted uncomfortably in his chair. “Southie” had long been one of the various slurs of choice in Sameban culture for Eurans. ‘Please don’t be angry love. You’ll get your chance, just…maybe prioritise for now, that’s all I would say.’

Taking all this in was the youngest person at the table, eleven year old Penelope, sat next to Mateo as he ramped up to wind up Natalie with a right-leaning jibe. Being the middle child, Mateo was used to being overshadowed, so he chose to stop mid-sentence when he saw his younger sister begin hers. ‘I finished my design project at school yesterday. Can I show you it?’ Her intervention was a welcome change of tone – everyone smiled a bit as she pulled out a small wooden box from under the table. Natalie laughed. ‘Oh, Pennie, that’s just a box!’
‘Don’t call me that!’ Penelope said, scowling grumpily. ‘Watch. If you do this…’ They all craned their necks to observe as she pushed and pulled on two slides in the box, revealing cut out templates that formed an image of a bird flapping its wings when quickly switched. ‘…and you have a light behind it, it flaps! Mr Poll said its great.’ Mateo narrowed his eyes at Mr Poll’s name – not his favourite teacher, that was for sure. The others warmed to Penelope’s neat creation regardless.

Fire and metal.
Mateo flinched.
Burning up. No way out.
He shuddered again, shaking his head and focusing on what was left of the food. ‘Are you all right love?’ Rossana put her hand on his shoulder and gave him a comforting nudge. ‘Yes mama, I’m fine.’
‘Same thing again?’
‘Yeah.’
‘I know.’ There was a conspicuous absence at the table; a sixth member of this group formerly marked by an empty chair for a few years and then a portrait on the wall since. Mateo glanced at it briefly, felt sad again, and then looked away. The photograph showed a man in a military dress uniform. It was a distinctive khaki green with smart purple stripes down the side, and medals struck across the chest. The man himself had blonde hair and an unusually fair complexion compared to most Samebans, resembling Mateo and Medoro more than anyone else. A nameplate underscored his portrait – “Col. Gia Albert Piroz”. He cast a long shadow in more ways than one. Breakfast was finished, and so was this ordinary morning for the Piroz family.

Zeta Reka & Hügeltaldom Federativna Republika Zeta Reka i Hügeltaldom
World Cup 86 Coverage World Cup Qualifying Matches 5 & 6
It's been a rough two matches for the nation. Zeta Reka is almost three wins off pace of qualification after two losses. The matches were close, but Zeta Reka's on field condition will need to improve soon.

Firstly, the Rekan team traveled to The Jovannic. The game was tense, but two Jovannic goals in five minutes made Arnald Gal's late goal irrelevant. Coach Dusan took responsibility for the loss, saying that, "the players had great form, but I didn't adjust our play well enough to counter Simoli or Sua Chow." Individual performances were strong, and Zeta Reka's name was honored in by a foreign press that labelled the side as "Persistent." Rybki got a solid assist from a short range free kick, as mentioned before Gal scored. Gal has now scored an average of one goal per cap, a great stat after four games. One player who had a rotten day was Wlad Wlad. Wlad collcted his second yellow card in three matches after pulling the shirt of Sami Ning. Wlad Wlad thus sat out the next matchup of Zeta Reka's dramatic campaign.

Continuing to sit in the lower half of the table, Zeta Reka were looking for a win at home against the the fellow Esportivans of Mattijana. Keeper Zlatko Wukowić was looking for his first clean sheet of the tournament, but sadly he could not get his wish after Mattias Hoffman scored on a header that Wukowić grossly misjudged. Luckily for the team, there were not any other major errors in the first half. Becides, Zeta Reka seemed to score most often in the second half, and fresh legs from players like Rawić and reserve winger Josip Jorowić. Lucija Handanovic once again proved their worth for Mattijana, and made some amzaing saves on foreign soil. After stoppage time wound up with a throw in from Wladmir Zuzkoff, Zeta Reka had lost for a second time. "It's very disappointing obviously, but they were a good team." temporary captain Bartolomej Wladmirowić told media after the match. "That team is a big threat to anyone in the group," Coach Dusan said at his media scrum, adding that the team must snag "three points off of these guys when we return."

As it stands, the Federal Republic is sitting in seventh place in Group 16's standings. It will take many wins to climb up the ladder, and if things don't improve soon the Football Federation may intervine. Sportswriter Djoko Weljkowić described the situation in his column, "Cup of Harmony invitations are not stable footing compared to qualifying for the World Cup. Coach Dusan has made big promises, but has only a silver medal to show for it. Underperformance will lead to upheaval for players and staff." Should Zeta Reka improve itself, the nation will look to win by strong margins against two nations. First will be Saltstead, who beat Mattijana by a goal. After visiting Saltstead Krytenia will travel to Aleiusia. Krytenia have not drawn a game yet, and Zeta Reka has been responsible for both draws in the qualifying group, "I hope their trend continues," Coach Dusan said.

Valanora Times
Premiership Outlook

The next season of the Elven Premiership is just around the corner as sixteen teams will once again compete in the nation's top division to gain the honor of being able to call themselves the best team in the nation. Every season comes with renewed hope and dreams for the squads, as they convince both themselves and their supporters of the goals that they will be looking to achieve in the upcoming season. There is also the commercial side of things as well, with betting houses both in the Eternal Empire and outside of it are looking to make a bit of revenue based on the the odds they are going to be giving the teams. A few lucky individuals are able to be the system and get their fortunes from the betting houses, but more often than not it is the betting house who comes out on top, particularly in the Empire where predicting the winner of the Premiership is a bit straight forward, even if the rest of the positions are a bit hit and miss depending on the different clubs' fortunes throughout the year and how kind the summer transfer window was to them.

Needless to say, the favorite to win the title has to be Raynor City United, it is always the Rockers and the seasons that they do not win the title are the oddities compared to the seasons where they do indeed lift the trophy. The Rockers have everything going for them, from a great academy, to the history and fame to garner top players, and the sort of finances to buy just about any player that they really fancy regardless of whether the players' current club wants to sell or not. Naturally this means that on paper they usually have the best squad in the Premiership and should be considered the favorites. The other teams that look to be at the top are Soldarian FC, just a few years removed from their surprise title win and subsequent trip to the Champions' League Final, though they ultimately came up short there from adding another a top tier ICC title to their history. In addition you have Hondo FC, who continues to be a solid force that is always near the top of the table, as well as Mar Sara FC, with their traditional background and amazing stadium that keeps the finances on the up and up.

On the outside of the Champions' League chase but still looking good for the chase for the Challengers' Cup are Ibini FC, who have maintained their stay in the top half of the table despite being the only Vyinta based club that can seemingly maintain a topflight status. It has been said that Ibini has been sending more of the applicants to their academy towards the rest of the island to try and bolster the rest of the Vyinta clubs, but it has so far not seen much effect. Elsewhere you have Rolalas FC, who are the third best team in the capital who have very quietly over the years forged themselves into a consistent top half side that lately has been among the IFCF places, and their current teams looks just good enough to keep them there. Lastly there is also FC Capri, as the Typhoon are the dominant force on the island of the same name and have their ups and their lows but one thing that stays true with the Typhoon is the beauty in which they play the game with their relentless attacking mentality.

On the other side of the table, there is the relegation contention that has to be survived by the clubs with the hope that survival and the money that comes with it will allow themselves to bolster themselves in the upcoming transfer windows. In that battle is of course the two teams who came up from League One last season in Straightdale FC and Raynor City FC. Straightdale has more of a chance to survive the competitiveness of the Premiership, with the Knights having been a constant in the topflight for many decades before finally fall into the yo-yo status that they are currently in. For the Citizens, they have been up in the top flight for a few times, yet despite being in the capital, they never really have been able to attract the sort of player that would allow them to break through the barrier and establish themselves as a constant Premiership level team. Of the teams who survived last season, you are likely going to see Juavi and Asarnova in that relegation fight as well, with their lack of a major fanbase or good players being a real detriment to their desires to stay afloat. Only two are relegated however, meaning at least two of these teams will be safe, but who will it be, and who among the favorites will win the title? The kickoff to the new season starts in two weeks, after the next international weekend, grab you season tickets while you still can!

Busoga Islands World Cup Qualifying- where is the attack?

Image
Jay Khano puts his arms up in what has been a frustrating run of results for the Islander national team
in

DUKUMA, NORTH ISLAND- There seems to be a pattern establishing for the Busoga Islander national team. World Cup 82 Qualifying- nowhere close, although we stunned the world by beating Vilita on the road. World Cup 83 Qualifying, making it to the playoffs and controlling our own destiny going into the final matchday, although just barely missing out on the Finals. World Cup 84 Qualifying- taking a big step backwards to not even make Qualifying. World Cup 85 Qualifying- in a group where seemingly nobody wanted to qualify, where 5 teams were in contention for the last spot on the final day, those 5 included the Busoga Islands. Although we botched it at the end, we were in contention for the entirety of the campaign.

This time, there was a lot of excitement for the upcoming World Cup Qualification campaign. The Commonwealth of Baker Park made for an intriguing Pot 1 opponent. Mercedini also made for an intriguing Pot 2 opponent. We were firmly in Pot 3, ranked 45th in the multiverse, our first time making an appearance in the top 50 since our very first time making the knockout stages of an international tournament since the Baptism of Fire. We aren't in Pot 2, of course, but we are in a prime position to make a run, if things go our way, and actually make a strong chase for the playoffs.

Or so we thought.

The qualification campaign has been a disaster. It all went wrong on Matchday 1, and largely, it has been worse ever since. Starting the campaign at home, Ikshu Amitabh, the starting #9, went off on a stretcher, and ended up missing the next four matches. Hibbaan al-Shareef, the BSL Champion, golden glove winner, and the national team captain, broke up a fight but took the full punishment, earning a red card and a one game suspension from World Cup Qualifying. And, of course, an Islander fan throwing a brick at a player on the opposing team. Tensions will surely be in the air on Matchday 10, when the return leg happens.

The World Cup Committee, of course, does not take kindly towards fan violence aimed at opposing players. The Busoga Islander Soccer Association, in an effort to avoid further sanction from the WCC, decided to self-sanction and ban fans from their next two Qualifying home matches. And, of course, without the regular #9 in the mix for the Islander national team, things simply did not go well. Without their goalkeeper and #9, they didn't stand much of a chance in Savojarna on Matchday 2, and they recorded their first loss of the campaign, away from home against a rival for Qualification, as Savojarna defeated the Islanders by a score of 2-1.

The Busoga Islands then once again struggled at home. In what was another winnable game against West Angola, the offense failed to take it into gear and break down the visiting defense. It was a game the Islanders both could have, and should have, gotten all three points- but instead, they left points on the field and only earned one. It was the first of their two game self-imposed ban from fans. Very eery- playing in front of an empty stadium. A just punishment, as the WCC has not decided to add any punishment to BISA's self-imposed ban.

The second game in front of an empty stadium, of course, was the Islanders first win of the campaign. Beleaguered and laboring, we were finally able to get this campaign off the ground with a 1-0 home win over Twicetagria. It wasn't the most exciting of wins- a 35th minute header into the back of the net by Kamu Jacobs set the tone for the Islanders, whose defensive tendencies were enough to suffocate the Twicetagria attack. That was, shockingly, their first home goal of the campaign- it wasn't until our third home game, although two were in front of empty stadia, to score a goal. The attack has been weak, as Kamu Jacobs has lacked help without his usual partner up top, Amitabh.

But the lack of an effective attack continues to haunt this Islander side. Against a lower ranked Orion Islands side, after winning on Matchday 4, it was hoped we could pick up 3 more points and start our climb right back up the table. But it was not to be- The Orion Islands, deservedly, knocked us off. Victoria Park was in raptures as the Orion Islands celebrated the upset victory, and the Busoga Islander fans were once again disappointed. What was happening? Against Baker Park, of course, there was no questions about what would happen- we struggled to score against all these lower ranked sides, the Commonwealth would dispatch us easily. Even in the explosive atmosphere of playing at the Oval, we were no match for Baker Park, as we lost 3-1.

The campaign is a disaster so far. Just 5 points from six games have put us in 8th place(out of 10) after six games, something that we did not want. Tied for the fewest goals scored in group play so far, with just four. There are lot of questions that need to be asked of this team. But we need firepower up front. We've never been known for being the greatest attacking team. But only four goals in six games? In the words of the manager, it is 'simply unacceptable'. She will expect and demand more, and if they can't get more production, expect changes to the starting XI for the second half of Qualifying.

Our next two games will be away to TOTEL, who are 9th in the table and are 353rd in the KPB rankings, and then home against Cheergirls, who are well ahead of us in the table but have also struggled to score, only notching four goals during the campaign. Bethany Donnell says that these are key games to get the Islanders back on track. "There is still plenty of time left in the campaign, even though we have not started as strong as we should have." She told reporters. "It is about being more focused, about playing faster, starting faster. We're better than we've shown so far- there is plenty of talent in this country. We really need to let it shine. This game against TOTEL- it is a good chance to earn 3 points, and really turn this Qualifying train around."

We'll see, with Ikshu Amitabh returning to the lineup, whether or not the Islanders can actually turn things around, and put in a pair of good enough performances to get back into the Qualification conversation.

Gracelle opened the door only moments after Gerauld had knocked. She greeted him first with a warm smile and then, surprising Gerauld, with la bise. He hadn't thought they were that well acquainted; he'd only seen her a few times—once at that party Jacques had thrown, a couple other times when he'd chanced to visit their house, and a few times when she came to games, or more rarely, practices. Gracelle, however, treated him as if he was an old friend.

"Bonjour, ça va?" she asked. "Come in, come in, come in." She turned and made her way into the house, ushering for him to follow. She offered Gerauld a seat and an apéritif. "I'm surprised you were able to get out of practice today. Jacques is there now."

"Yeah, I know. I assumed you watched the last game?"

"Yes, and let me congratulate you! You really had a lot of time to shine!"

"Normally that's not a good thing for a goalie," said Gerauld with a wry smile.

Gracelle laughed. "Well it's not as if the offense was absent. Lobato was playing a good game too."

"He sure was. I got to swap jerseys with him after, I was happy about that."

"But we were saying you managed to get out of practice. And I hear you're not going to be playing against The Maccian. Normally a good performance doesn't get you benched for the next game—especially not against a key opponent like The Maccian. How did that happen?"

"Well, that's what I was going to say. After my performance last game, I was able to convince Tremblay—"

Gracelle smiled.

Gerauld corrected himself. "Um, Jacques, I should say. I talked him into giving me a game off. Normally I play almost every match. But Estienne will be glad to get to play once, and once I'd talked my way out of the next game, it was a lot easier to talk my way out of being at practice today. So that I could come talk to you."

Gracelle raised an eyebrow. "And it couldn't just be any other day? You had to skip practice to see me...?" Gracelle was smart. She finished her own sentence. "...because you didn't want Jacques to be here." She laughed. "I hope you're not trying to seduce me, young man."

Gerauld blushed and began to stammer. "Ah—Absolutely not, madame! I have a wife whom I adore, and—"

Gracelle laughed again. "I'm just teasing," she said. "I'm much too old for you."

"That's a little bit related to what I wanted to ask you about," said Gerauld. "The part about being old," he hastened to add. "Not the other... thing."

"Comment ça?"

"Well, I think someone out there thinks Termbla—euh, Jacques is getting too old to manage, and obviously I disagree. They've got some kind of ulterior motive, I think, but I don't know who's behind it."

Gracelle seemed shocked. "What gives you this idea?"

"Well, Ägidius got a new management position, as I'm sure you heard, and I think someone is trying to pave the way for phasing Jacques out. But that's why I wanted to come to you. Jacques doesn't seem to realize it, and he's going along with the whole thing. He even said it was all your idea." Gerauld seemed breathless, as if once he'd gotten the idea across, he ahd to defend it as soon as possible. "I wanted to let you know," he said. "I only thought it was fair that if someone's trying to get rid of Jacques and he's practically framing you for it, that someone should tell you. I think the team is pretty concerned, and I didn't want them to blame you while you knew nothing about it."

"But, Gerauld." Gracelle seemed perfectly mellow again. "It was my idea."

"What!?" It was Gerauld's turn to be surprised. Then he realized his overreaction and scratched the back of his head nonchalantly. "Oh. Well then if it was just you, then I guess I don't need to worry about someone trying to get Jacques to retire. That's a relief."

There was a pause, and they both reached for their drinks. Gerauld took a bigger gulp as if he was trying to clear his head. Gracelle took a smaller sip as she appeared to muse something over.

"But Gerauld," she said. "He's seventy-three years old. Manager of l'équipe nationale at seventy-three. Don't you think maybe he is getting a bit old?"

Gerauld frowned at her. "Absolutely not. I mean, he's been old for a while. But—"

Gracelle interrupted. "And don't forget that he already retired once."

"But he's still got it! He's the best there is! Look where he's gotten us!"

"He only came out of retirement because Reçueçn's équipe nationale's Baptism of Fire was going to be a lot more literal if they didn't have a coach. We only ever meant for him to take the job for one cycle. And that was the seventy-second World Cup. It's been fourteen cycles."

"Not for Reçueçn."

"No, not for Reçueçn. But however you count, it's been a long time. He brought us through the baptism of fire. He got us into the World Cup. He brought us to the point where we can be the top seed in any qualification group. He won't be around forever. Don't you think that we need to start at least thinking about the future?"

"Yes, thinking, planning. But not jumping ahead, trying to rush things!"

"We can't just keep waiting and doing nothing. If something were to happen, where would we be? Do you think Bonheur is ready to take the job?"

"Well, Bonheur works hard, he..."

"He works hard, he means well, he's a great guy. But he's not ready. You know that."

"Couldn't we wait 'til he is? Until somebody is? We could always hire a foreign manager if we needed someone in an emergency."

"You know the ministry wouldn't accept that. Gerauld." Gracelle looked him in the eyes, and hers were full of tenderness... and grace. She deserves her name, Gerauld thought. He thought for a moment her eyes almost seemed moist. But no, maybe he had imagined it.

"Gerauld," she said. "I know it's painful to admit that eventually this era must end. But it will... it already is. Your Baptism of Fire cohort is already beginning to retire. Someday all of you will be retired or managing somewhere yourselves. Someday—" her voice wavered for a moment— "Someday Jacques won't be around anymore. Someday Reçueçn will fail to qualify for the World Cup. Or maybe we won't, maybe we'll grow and grow and eventually win one. Maybe Reçueçn is forever, maybe sporting glory is eternal. But we."

Gracelle paused again and looked out the window behind her. Her garden was full of flowers, and the grass was sprinkled with daisies.

"We are not eternal. And pretending otherwise helps no one."

Gerauld lowered his eyes. "Why are you telling me this? Did a doctor tell you something?"

Gracelle looked at him, and she was smiling again. "No, Jacques is healthy, maybe more than he's ever been. But he is old. And he doesn't like to admit that any more than you do. It took a month or two of gentle cajoling to get him to allow Ägidius as another assistant—paraclete, I guess it's called. That was my idea too. Don't you think that's a nice name for it?"

Comforter, companion. "Yes," said Gerauld, "it's a beautiful name."

"Hey, Hansel," started Makana Tuft one day after training. "How do you think we are doing thus far?"
Hansel Tang was stunned at the question. Despite getting the wins after wins more smoothly, she has never thought about the team's overall performance. She never gave a single thought about whether it was time to take a quick check on the team performance and decide whether the team was on the right track. "Now that you ask me, maybe I should go and reflect on how we are doing," replied Hansel. "Surely, however, it is too early to say that we are on the smooth path towards qualification?"
For Hansel Tang, she could remember clearly how it was never clear about which team could qualify at such an early stage. She went back to take a quick glance and the table records at Matchday 6 last cycle. There was absolutely no trend between making the World Cup and number of points at this stage. Audioslavia, at Matchday 6 last cycle, was only on 12 points from 6 games. The Holy Empire was slightly better with 13 points from 6 games. There were teams like Cassadaigua and Kelssek who obtained 6 wins in 6. On the other extreme, Hampton Island had only 10 points from 5 games, while Sarzonia opened with 3 wins and 3 losses. All these teams eventually qualified for the World Cup. Trend or not - Hansel wasn't going to believe it.
With a whole lot of players given rests ahead of the Red Panjias' matches against Delaclava and Juvencus, Hansel and vice-captain Shakira Handris led the line against Silver Commonwealth and Euran Oceania Territories. These were matches widely considered as "easy wins", and for a Poafmersia aiming to attain an upset over the top 2 seeds, stability was important, as the race would ultimately become a race of "first to blink gets eliminated".
Makana, widely speculated to be the replacement that will lead the line in years to come, featured on the starting lines. Given that Adnan and Katiri wanted to trial the players out, it was a surprise that the same starting line was called against both opponents, however, the coaches made up for it by calling in many substitutes. Shakira's presence was just to ensure that the captain's armband remained with a captain or vice-captain - as seen against Euran Oceania Territories, it would be Joel Haodao that came on the pitch to replace Hansel Tang, before Shakira goes off to let Aleka Dufour come on. Hollis Stephenson performed very well against both Silver Commonwealth and Euran Oceania Territories, running the distance up and down the field to ensure that she can play both with a high defence line and man-mark individual players. Maybe it was her exposure to Xannerian football - a weird combination of aggressive football and attacking football that causes defenders to play at a higher line. Then there is Hansel Tang, whose presence allowed the players to nullify the threat of the opposition team parking the bus or going all defensive, because her experience in Ko-oren taught her how to deal with that. Shakira learnt a totally different tactic of making defence the best form of attack, being a total failure with longer balls but willing to wait for the build-up play from the back. The presence of players to deal with different tactical situations has made Poafmersia a more rounded squad.

Jabik's weekly column: Why rotation in sports is necessary
by Jabik Henderson
Guest Columnist for Sporting Daily
Typically we look at football because we want to see our top players battle it out on the field. We want to see that player that we stan playing, showing off his or her skills, scoring magnificent goals, or providing some really good plays that spice up the match. However, when we look at the team sheet, we will be surprised to see that our favourite player is on the bench. Maybe not even on the bench. Sometimes you wonder why they are not playing even if they are not injured. You wonder if they are being mistreated or something, don't you?
This is a common tactic known as rotation, where players rotate out to ensure that they are in the best condition for another match of higher importance. Maybe it is just because the upcoming opponents are not as difficult as the opponents for the following match. Maybe it is just because the team is choosing to focus on a competition over another. Whatever the reason, rotation is something that is really necessary in order to keep the player's fitness in best shape.
It is not just football. Substitutes exist in many team sports for a reason - to rotate players and ensure that not everyone is suffering from mass fatigue. Especially in tournament-styled matches where you play every alternate day. Maybe every three days. Nevertheless, expecting someone to start for so many matches is literally asking for trouble - either the player suffers from fatigue, or gets a serious injury due to the inability to have time to recover from the physical workout. In sports like basketball and hockey, where substitutes are free rolling and unlimited, you can expect players to play for short burst of time each game, so you don't feel that "rotation" is going on. In other sports like football, where there are limited substitutes per game, you would see it more obviously. Even in individual sports do you see rotation? Yes of course, by choosing to take part in certain events and not others, especially back to back events which may be mentally taxing.
When fans wonder why a majority of the "regular" players did not start the match against Silver Commonwealth or Euran Oceania Territories, they don't know that rotation is taking place. Rotation is key to ensure that our players remain strong against stronger opponents. Maybe resting 2 in a row is too much, but honestly, I think it is fine. The last 3 matches in the first half require undivided attention given to them, with tricky ties against Delaclava, Juvencus and Lovisa. That is it. If the key players will play these 3 matches in 6 days, then surely we need to rotate now. In fact, rotation is good for the squad - it allows players who have been getting less playing time to take a step up and say that "it is my turn to shine". Some players have done just that, like Hollis (Stephenson), Emma (Conner) and Woden (Sweet). Others have firmly shown that they are contesting for a regular starting position, like Makana (Tuft), Alex Hoboson and Nasri Sanchez. Both opponents provide good test to see how much Poafmersia has improved, and as we can see, the defence has gotten a bit more tighter than before. Hopefully, the team can keep this momentum going into the next three fixtures, and ensure that the players take home 3 wins. The bounty on Poafmersia right now is super high, and these 3 matches would very well decide who has the upper hand going into the second half ties against Audioslavia and The Holy Empire. As we say, the price of losing these matches is unbearable.

Part 7: Putting the Price Tag on every match (Section B)

Forget about the price tag. Just. Forget. About. It.
For the players, the ups and downs they had experienced from the matches against Xanneria and Quakmybush was just too much. To them, it was an overall loss. Winning Quakmybush just didn't seem to compensate for the home loss against Xanneria. It was as though both teams are of a different level, and that both matches are “worth” differently. The Xannerian match didn’t even deserve to be a loss - the players felt that they should have walked out of the match against the 3rd seeds with at least 1 point.
For the Isles, the match against Xanneria was an utter disaster. Really. Both sides played really aggressively in different ways - with Xanneria trying to score aggressively and our Yellow Lions trying to gain possession aggressively. It didn’t help that it was raining very heavily, and that the players were soaked. The stadium’s retractable roof didn’t seem to help - as the fans at the stadium complained that even on the stand they were hit by the water. It was the huge winds combined with the stormy weather that made the stadium really in an unplayable state, but nothing could be done because the match had to go on according to WCC rules. In fact, the weather was so bad that the Handorian Press Daily opened their headline article with a classic cliché statement, much to the amusement of many school-going kids and adults alike.
Taken from Handorian Press Daily
It was a dark and stormy night.
In a stadium located in the heart of North Handoria, Abdelkarter Kartal stood by the post, looking at the disappointed fans who were braving the rain and strom trying to cheer the Isles football team on as they took on the 3rd seeds in the group, Xanneria. Looking at the celebrating Xannerian keeper who was elated that he saved Kartal’s second penalty for the night, he felt that he should really be subbed out then. Nothing was going well for him, and everything was going really badly.

The match was widely considered a disaster for the Yellow Lions, failing to save Bunkirk’s 62nd minute penalty, failing to score 2 penalties, going down 3-1 by the 62nd minute and failing to get a goal in after that, everything pointed to the fact that the Isles was on a downward slide. Even during their away win against Quakmybush 3 days later, Sadık didn’t celebrate his goal. The players just promptly left the pitch at full time without much celebration like they typically do.
At this stage, fans were absolutely concerned. They fear that the players have been giving themselves too much pressure that they aren’t getting in the results that they are supposed to get. The sluggish performance that they had against Quakmybush was really cause for concern - it was as though the players had given up hope after losing against the top 3 seeds. Maybe the players were giving too much attention to Banija, Chromatika and Xanneria that they considered every other match “just a part of the qualification campaign”. Maybe it was that they had placed such a large price tag on trying to get good results against those 3 opponents. During the press conference after the Quakmybush match, Bolkvadze had a really serious look on his face, and gave really not-Thullie like statements. He suddenly acted really mysterious, giving really vague and neutral responses on how the team was taking the match. Every Gothanitan from Otksarin to South Jeolerina knew something was amiss, and they took to Flutt.er, the main Gothanitan social media, to give encouragement to them. Publicly, groups of fans were calling on Gothanitans to not give too much pressure to the football team, saying that poor performances on debut against some of the multiverse’s strongest teams were “normal”. One fan even wrote, “So long as the players are making improvements, learning from their mistakes, everything will be fine.”
Up next will be Blouman Empire and HAIKU. The team will make a trip to Melayu Archipelago, hosting Blouman Empire in Otksarin before travelling to HAIKU. If the players could relieve some stress, break their streak of only scoring 1 per match, find back the form that got them the results in the Baptism of Fire, then these 2 matches should be relatively okay and 4 points would be reasonable.

Two games, two draws... one goal?

Aqur Katoqari

Sajnur's first two matches at the 10th Independent Associations Championship were, well, unusually boring. Somehow, against Squidroidia, an entire match went by with each team scoring just one goal. Then against top seeds Poafmersia, an entire match went by with both teams failing to score at all! How! How does two matches involving Sajnur happen with only two goals total?! Well, after you readers recover from the shock, the frustration, for some maybe even boredom, I will explain below.

The first match against Squidroidia saw both teams line up in a 4-3-3, and the Squidriodian solidity proved impossible for Sajnur to break down. Indeed, with Ogasawara Arinori making four tackles, Sajnur's 60% possession in the first half gave no result. However, the Sajnuran defence proved similarly difficult to break down, with Kahala Murje marshalling her back four into a veritable brick wall, and Kaori Hajat playing sentry against the Squid midfield. The second half would prove more fruitful as defences became tired, though, and Jessica Siafik would take full advantage to scythe her way past several white shirts, dazzle Arinori onto their back, enter the penalty box, and curl to goal for the lead. Sadly, the Inklings would equalise as Squid captain Morihei Nariaki would whip in an early cross to Itoh Hoshi to head in past Alek Khadur. Despite the introductions of Parjazu and Zain Hasan, no more goals would be produced and the match ended in a draw.

The result against Poafmersia reads as 0-0, but can be described with two words. Kahala. Murje. The young defender made thirteen tackles and a further five interceptions as the Red Panjias attacked in wave after wave. The Panjias had 77% possession, yet they could not score against Murje and company. Stefan Jana was nominally the centre of the back three but he took a back seat to Murje as his main role was to cut out aerial balls, his height complimenting Murje's ground defence exquisitely, and Raglan and Hajat also performed admirably in holding the fort. Sadly, the Poafmersian fort could not be broken down either, as 23% possession was simply not enough, the Sajnuran counter attacks dealt with efficiently by the Panjias, and Sandi Jaliaha in particular making four saves, a figure that looks weird in contrast to Laghiev's two saves given that Sajnur had one third as much ball time to force those saves.

An X to IAC hopes

Aqur Katoqari

After two draws, Eliseo Marinon would have hoped that the Sajnuran national team would have accelerated into victory against Abanhfleft and Kayangan, but instead Sajnur has been eliminated in the group stages for the second consecutive IAC, with the 4-2 loss to Abanhfleft condemning Sajnur to a group stage exit and Kayangan grinding out a 1-0 victory against a demoralised team to send us bottom. The disappointment was palpable, and in particular the failure to score against Kayangan being a sore sight indeed. Bad luck and bad performance combined for a bad tournament, and Marinon's despair was all there to see after the whistle was blown at Syracuse's Stade Olympique.

While Kahala Murje was the hero against a strong Poafmersia side, she was cast out early as a horrific tackle against Rosalee Caulfield resulted in red on the attacking midfielder's leg and red out of the referee's pocket, leaving Sajnur down to ten, with Hiroko Kellerman slotting home from the spot to put Abanhfleft 2-1 up. Earlier, Kellerman benefited from a Josefine Vitagliano low cross meeting her outstretched leg to take an early lead, and Andre Naulo equalised with a header served to him by a Jessica Siafik chip ball. The second half would prove equally unfriendly in terms of the scoreline, and almost as unfriendly in terms of personnel as Siafik picked up a leg injury and had to be subbed off for Metiria Ocango late on. The scoreline action would all happen before this, however, as Vitagliano and Skye Ereve both benefited from crosses by Delilah Costilla and Rebecca Mowery respectively, the latter from a corner, to construct a Fleftic 4-1 lead. Siafik would whip a corner of her own to the head of Stefan Jana to restore the score to respectability before her injury blunted any chance of an actual recovery.

Against Kayangan, there was nothing on offer but pride, and with Murje suspended and Siafik injured, Sajnur wasn't much in the mood for pride. Kayangan's 4-4-2 proved very solid, and a usually potent Sajnuran front three wasn't able to find any cracks or crevices to seep through, nor were the midfield or Silja Jorse able to vault the ball over. It was a match of patience and attrition, and a lot of short passing. Eventually Kayangan drove their way into the penalty box, where their two strikers paired up, Tuan Pateh Manisan holding the ball for Tengkolok Samperan to send past Natasha Kirai for the game's only goal. Sajnur getting shut out twice? Not a recipe for a good tournament.

Ñucanchi Ñan - Part 18.

Llacuabamba, Parcoy Department. - 11/04/1980 - 5:15 A.M.
Mina was paranoid, he left the van and started to see to one place to the other, he feared that the Ronda truck would’ve followed him to Llacuabamba (which was a huge mistake from Mina in first place) but he found no traces of them for a period of 30 minutes. He sighed in relief and his guard did it as well, they decided to go to the nearest hostel there, a humble one since Llacuabamba is perhaps one of the most forgotten villages of Huayramarca, although, people noticed something weird when some of them were heading to their estates to take care of their crops… “Oh, look at that weird van, who’s that?” Said a peasant while taking a humble phone to point out the details of said sight, he decided to call police and report it until his son said “It’s a GC license plate, it’s from the Central Government (As the presidency is known in Huayramarca).” The peasant giggled and said “Haha, they are begging for our votes, that was quite weird you know.” In a sarcastic way that somehow molested Mina, but decided to keep hidden.

The peasants noticed the van and supposed something weird, hence, they would keep an eye and notify the local Ronda in case something happens later, still, they decided to go to the crops and take care of those, it was the avocado season, one of the greatest Huayramarcan export products and people was rushing to sell those to distributing companies or vendors in what it seemed as a bargain… Mina slept for some hours, he needed it in order to recompose his thoughts and plans into his mind, the twisted machinations of the mining idea on Illimani needed to continue, he just imagined himself into a pool of money, swimming while being worried on how many generations that money would last, meanwhile, he laughing at Serranos protests and attempts to kill him while abroad, he would achieving what he wanted, using the state apparatus in order to bully people due to a childhood trauma… Revenge is best served on cold.

Those delirious dreams, far away from reality, were putting Mina into the brink of craziness and mental disorder, a complete sociopathic person on charge of a nation, would you imagine something as crazy as this? Mina was laughing while asleep, his guard was thinking on how crazy was he at that moment, still, he wanted to stick to Mina in order to grab some chunks of money after such a big deal.

The peasants were increasingly suspicious and decided to talk with neighboring Rondas in a E-Quipu grouped chat with commanders from all across Huayramarca… It has to be pointed out that Ñucanchi Ñan visited that village just five days ago, the villagers support for the rebel cause was still hot and present into their minds, hence, having the enemy at their home would carry immediate action. One of those peasants asked in the chat “Do you have any records of the vehicle with license plates GCP-455” The answer delayed some minutes until someone said “It’s el cojudo” (dumb-fuck) then typed “He crashed one of our cars at Mil Cumbres, sent two of our Comrades into a cliff. A fucking assassin, enemy of the people.” The Llacuabamban just answered “He’s at Llacuabamba, if possible, come here to recognize the vehicle and proceed.” The Mil Cumbres Ronda leader, together with the Parcoy representative typed “Don’t let him go!”

Mina’s life was on extreme risk once again, still, he continued as a sleeping beauty, unconscious on what was happening in the small village where he was… It was noon and the Ronda reinforcements were arriving into Llacuabamba, they decided to close the only road crossing the village in order to let Mina chanceless and then “proceeding” against him, it was a swift operative made without scandals nor noise, Serrano’s discipline and community sense at its best while building barricades around and grabbing some sticks to smack while receiving the so feared “Indigenous Punishment” made with severe harshness in order to recompose the spiritual harmony into the soul of the individuals.

Mina woke up, it was 1:00 P.M. his guard was asleep, hence he decided to take a shower and then innocently walk for some food at the neighboring restaurant, he dressed up and grabbed a mustache to disguise, still, a bad idea since he’d be the only black-skinned person at the community, hence, completely recognizable by the Ronda. He’d be a bait for the sharks there, they didn’t took five minutes to recognize him, they let him eat and digest the food for half an hour, he was walking to the hotel and was suddenly interrupted by a truck that came to him, it was the Ronda with heavily armed people who decided to ask him “Who you are? Identify yourself.” He figured out he didn’t have any documentation with him, he left it at the hotel, hence he said “I’m Jorman Perlaza” one of the leaders said “I won’t trust you; do you think we are fools? We know who you are, show us documentations!” Mina refused to show those, the leader said “Ok, you’ll come with us to the nearby house.” He showed some resistance but it was in vain, he was dragged to the house while the people were on a circle while Mina was getting questioned.”

The bodyguard woke up and was afflicted because Mina wasn’t on his bed, he took a shower as fast as he could and dressed up, took his duty rifle in order to see what was happening. He noticed that the village was suspiciously empty until he saw a human circle there. The bodyguard turned on the van and he decided to approach closely, he knew that it was a Ronda group questioning Mina, hence he needed to act and decided in a fast way to phone Mina up and ask him to be aware of the road and run when he spots the van. Plan made; show must continue.

The bodyguard accelerated, the people was focused on the happenings, Mina saw the ban and decided to scape while the van drove over the people gathered for the punishment. The impact was strong enough to kill several people, specially the armed ones, hence Mina managed to get into the car and scape Llacuabamba and head towards the Illimani National Park as soon as possible to refuge up with the Québécois miners from the Nunavut Mining Cooperative. The road to the park was complicated, driving through the Abra Mil Cumbres and then heading north thorough several mountain passes over 5,500 meters above the sea level to a snail shaped section of the road with cliffs of 700 meters in the last part of the route to Illimani, in Huayrasuyo. Rush wouldn’t be their best ally, but the fact that they managed to recompose some sleep deprivation would help the driver to reach the destination safe and sound. A three hours trip commenced.

Mina phoned up the contractor from NMC in order to verify if he was, in fact, at the place and then protect himself from the Ronda or something worse, ÑÑ. The contractors were on place, but Mina received the worst news possible “A group with red flags are here and doesn’t let us start the drillings.” Mina asked “What’s their name?” In a mediocre pronunciation attempt, he let slip “Nucanchey nan” Mina answered “I’ll arrive soon” meanwhile searching for the police director and the army commander in order to get some presence on the place. Mina was tense once again, the bodyguard noted it and asked “What’s going on?” Mina said “Those communists are on Illimani. Let’s continue there anyway, I won’t hide anymore.” I’ll crush them.

From the off, Prime Minister Bardsley could feel that Margravine Lindt would be a different figure to her predecessor.
Carrick would probably have been happier if every state event had taken place at a bar. But Lindt wanted everything, as the anxious liaison put it and the new Brenecian ambassador to Nephara confirmed, 'just so'. She had her own people planning everything. Planning her own state visit, for her own reception.
It was hard to be too critical. Carrick had been shot. Lindt didn't intend to follow suit.

There were a couple of familiar faces in the delegation. Camilla Rinehart, war criminal, somehow more grizzled and taciturn than ever, eyes that scanned everything. Twitchy Fluorspar Walker, whose career had somehow survived the last incident. Otherwise, though, it was a more heavyweight retinue than last time; that had just been to show everyone that the two nations were very definitely not at war. This was trade and defence, and a very open glower to make sure Brenecia wasn't starting shit.
Lindt herself cut a fine figure in a suit. She was built for it, strong-shouldered, jawline like a cliffside. Green eyes that could probably melt glass, or see through a dress.
Photo ops were limited. A terse handshake, a nod, a purposeful stride towards private quarters.
"You know, the Queen offered a private--"
"That won't be necessary," said the Margravine, brusquely. "You know that."
"Allow me my little joke, Margravine."
Lindt smirked, just for a second. Then it died away. "We're here on business."
"Of course."

The next four hours were, surprisingly, not the most excruciating experience of Bardsley's life. In fact, they were well behind being waterboarded.
Brenecia and Nephara had always had a symbiosis; one built on wool and meat. Nephara had her own mines, but the entire reason for their arrival to 'liberate' the place had been the rich, verdant and poorly-defended farmland. The Treaty of Westpike had set these things in stone, until it had been in the Brenecian interest to scrap it. The Brenecian interest to scrap it hadn't lasted long. The country was fucking broke.
"But too proud to beg," as Lindt pointed out. "I can respect that."
Eventually, they came away with some kind of accord. Some kind of mutual respect, and Bardsley convincingly pretending that they weren't over a barrel and they totally had other options. Of course, a tense meeting behind closed doors wouldn't salve everything. Specifics still had to be hammered out.
But hey, at least nobody had been shot this time.
