I feel it's more about how fasces were originated in Rome as a mark of authority.

I don't get it. Trump's suggesting that the US and Italy are both part of Rome's political legacy, which is a rather common historical position (though I don't agree with it, as America's political heritage is more Anglo-Saxon England and less imperial Rome).

Well, not just that, but the Roman empire was arguably the founder of modern western civilization. Architecture, religion, language, philosophy, the very alphabet we're typing, all and more have their origins in Roman, and one only has to look at the structure pf the US government and its infrastructure, down to the buildings that houses it, to see that in many ways we tried to emulate them, and we're hardly the only nation to have done so.

But then somehow the person who had to say all of that had to be Trump, and so the internet takes it in hand and runs.

"The United States and Italy are bound together by a shared cultural and political heritage dating back thousands of years to Ancient Rome..."

So is he saying that the heritage goes back over 1,000 years or that the US and Italy have been bounded together for 1,000 years? It seems rather clear its the former.

While it is true that the Founding Fathers liked to LARP as Romans, I don't know how true this is. Protestant Christianity, Anglo-Saxon civic-mindedness, and the English Civil War had a much bigger impact on the US's political structures.

Protestant Christianity traces its roots back to the Christianity that was adopted and formed by the Roman empire and its society. And I'd argue that Anglo-Saxon/English culture was just as much aspiring to be Roman as the rest of Europe at the time was.

The Roman Empire had an effect on cultures far beyond its border. For centuries it was the founder culture that Europeans/Westerners looked up to.

Rome has carried a certain element of cultural prestige, but there have been many political and cultural movements that involved severing times with Rome, with the underlying desire to create a new society independent of the Roman legacy. We saw this in the Protestant Reformation.

No, it's because he's a criminal who keeps doing crimes and corrupting the power of the government to avoid being brought to justice.

I don't want Trump politically weakened. I don't want him voted out of office in 2020. I want him impeached, removed from office, convicted of his manifold crimes, and sent to a serious fucking prison to live out the rest of his miserable life in a 10x10 with a cot and pot.

I want this not for political advantage, or even because of Trump's policies - abhorrent as they are, and insofar as he has any beyond his own personal aggrandizement - but because if he's allowed to get away unpunished after his blatant corruption of the office of the Presidency, America is doomed. And simply voting him out of office like he's some kind of legitimate office-holder isn't enough... we need to send a serious message that this shit don't fly.

(And I've hated Trump way longer than 2016. I hated him when he was just a con man and reality TV personality with no connection to anything I gave a shit about. But that was just an abstract, detached kind of hatred, the kind of hatred you might have for broccoli, or reality television. Since he conspired with a foreign power to subvert the American electoral process, corrupt the Presidency, and literally kill people for the sake of his bloated ego, it's become a much more directed kind of hatred.)

But I guess none of that matters, because Trump is doing the only thing that's important to you: Continuing to do absolutely nothing to bring down Castro.

(Seriously, have you noticed that sixty years of hard-line Cuba policy has accomplished nothing whatsoever, beyond grinding the Cuban people ever-further into the dirt, but in the rest of the Soviet bloc, where we pursued more moderate policies, all of the communist regimes collapsed decades ago? A few excerpts you can all read the rest from Politico:

"Impeach Trump."

They held signs that read "Trump Makes America Hate" and chanted "hey, hey, ho, ho Donald Trump has got to go." and "Impeach Trump."

A day after Donald Trump's election to the presidency, campaign divisions appeared to widen as many thousands of demonstrators — some with signs with messages declaring "NOT MY PRESIDENT" — flooded streets across the country to protest his surprise triumph.

From New England to heartland cities like Kansas City and along the West Coast, demonstrators bore flags and effigies of the president-elect, disrupting traffic and declaring that they refused to accept Trump's victory.

Los Angeles demonstrators also beat a Trump piñata and sprayed the Los Angeles Times building and news vans with anti-Trump profanity. One protester outside LA City Hall read a sign that simply said "this is very bad."

There were other Midwest protest marches in Omaha, Nebraska, and Kansas City, Missouri.

They held signs that read "Trump Makes America Hate" and chanted "hey, hey, ho, ho Donald Trump has got to go." and "Impeach Trump."

I rest my case.

I am a native born Cuban and American citizen.

The eternal revolutionary Cuban Military Mafia regime, can democratize Cuba western style today right now if it wants to, it trades with 99 % of all the nations of the world, receives over 4 million foreign tourists per year. Receives Cuban American Family remittances $ and care packages from Cubans all over the world including food, medicines and toilet paper.

The Cuban regime trades with Canada, the EU nations and all European nations, President Obama tried to improve economic, political, cultural and tourist relations and it does not work for obvious reasons, they do not want too democratize Cuba western style, the carrot does not work with these people.

The real embargo against the Cuban people like my family still in Cuba is the Cuban embargo against the Cuban people. Foreigners can invest in Cuba through the Cuban regime, but my family in Cuba cant invest in Cuba even if I send them the money. The Cuban regime can allow the Cuban people, Canadian and European corporations total economic freedom and transform Cuba within a year, but they do not want to do so for obvious reasons they loose control over the Cuban people.

The Cuban regime controls the exports and imports of the Cuban economy, a form of control over the Cuban people.

Voltaire the Rich upper class Padrino of my family in Cuba, a member of High Society, once told me, we were ready, willing and able to help Fidel, but he turned against us and nationalized all our businesses. Fidel and Raúl's family live like rich capitalists:
https://www.nationstates.net/nation=mia ... /id=926659

My family in Cuba was middle class, we had farms, houses and a Hotel Bar and Restaurant all nationalized by Fidel, but Voltaire was the rich upper class Padrino of our family in Cuba, a member of High Society.

I have former Cuban political prisoners in my family and friends, my next door neighbor is a former Cuban political prisoner for 13 years, he says I did not put a bomb anywhere, I did not kill anyone, I just spoke out against the revolution I disagree with.

As my guy Cousin who also emigrated from Cuba legally the right way, told me be careful what you say about our family in Cuba, because if the Cuban government finds out who you are they can make life hell for our family still in Cuba, when I showed him and told him all about NS.

That is the nature of the people we are dealing with in Cuba, as Raúl and Miguel Diaz-Canel and the eternal Cuban regime say, we are the continuity of the revolution, the carrot does not work with these people.

For obvious reasons.

As long as the Committees for the Defense of the revolution CDRs exists in Cuba their cant be any real democratic change in Cuba, as Fidel once said, the main job of the CDRs is to be the legs, hands, arms, eyes and ears of the revolution.

For obvious reasons.

I used to live 3 houses down from the head of the CDR in our neighborhood.

The Cuban regime trades with Canada, the EU nations and all European nations, President Obama tried to improve economic, political, cultural and tourist relations and it does not work for obvious reasons, they do not want too democratize Cuba western style, the carrot does not work.

Voltaire the Rich upper class Padrino of my family in Cuba, a member of High Society, once told me, we were ready, willing and able to help Fidel, but he turned against us and nationalized all our businesses. Fidel and Raúl's family live like rich capitalists:

My family in Cuba was middle class, we had farms, houses and a Hotel Bar and Restaurant all nationalized by Fidel, but Voltaire was the rich upper class Padrino of our family in Cuba, a member of High Society.

I have former Cuban political prisoners in my family and friends, my next door neighbor is a former Cuban political prisoner for 13 years, he says I did not put a bomb anywhere, I did not kill anyone, I just spoke out against the revolution I disagree with.

As my guy Cousin who also emigrated from Cuba legally the right way, told me be careful what you say about our family in Cuba, because if the Cuban government finds out who you are they can make life hell for our family still in Cuba.

That is the nature of the people we are dealing with in Cuba, as Raúl and Miguel Diaz-Canel and the eternal Cuban regime say, we are the continuity of the revolution, the carrot does not work.

For obvious reasons.

Trump committed an impeachable offense. He literally broke the law and may have ordered Giuliani to do illegal things and get an ambassador fired.

Is Cuba the only thing you care about because it sure comes off that way?

Trump's not that subtle, never has been. He's reading something someone else wrote and he always sounds fake when he does that.

Oh you mean monotone queue card Donnie?

Yup. He still manages to get his tells in to flag nonsene.

Miami Shores: They hate you and most Democrats here and across the nation hate you, but they have a right to hate you, but they hate you since the first day of the 2016 election results, that is why they are trying to impeach you and weaken you politically during an election season.

Many wanted the electoral college electors to vote against Donnie in states he won.

Not my president:' Trump denounced in protests across America
https://www.politico.com/story/2016/11/ ... -us-231165

A few excerpts you can all read the rest from Politico:

I rest my case.

why do you keep writing that? What part of it is ILLEGAL to solicit dirt from a foreign country on a political opponent to you not get? This is much bigger than just the phone call.

If Giuliani is truly innocent why where two of his associates arrested and why is he under federal investigation?
