I suppose it depends on how many terrible people I had access to for consumption. Like if the area had a few hundred child molesters and robber barons, then I could feed for awhile and see how I like vampire life. If I need to feed so often that I have to kill decent people to survive, then I'd probably let Buffy turn me to dust.

Try and find an avenue of feeding that would not require me to kill innocent or good people, so stalking and feeding on criminals, bandits etc, also vampires are not driven to just kill people, its to feed on blood, which in many literature and non literature based sources can also involve animals and not killing someone in the process of feeding.


Guess i would set myself up as a vigilante then and try and organise some form of guard for where ever my hideout/crypt will be. Given im a noblewoman that would involve some kind of castle or manor house, hire better guards than the sods who ran off and just sit tight when im not killing fuckers.

Suicide isn't as clearly condemned in the Bible as murder. What Jesus did could technically be considered suicide, and that's celebrated. Sacrificing yourself for others is considered the greatest sign of love, and that's the greatest commandment.

Your guards were supposed to protect you but they run away after being threatened by the mob. They decide "you know what, this isn't worth it."

You attempt to buy off the gang members but this only serves to antagonise them because they are less interested in being rich themselves than in destroying the rich to make a political statement. In fact, they are offended that you would "patronise" them in this way.

As you scream out for mercy and help... the gang attacks you, and quite violently assaults, batters and kills you. There are many bystanders but they do absolutely nothing, some of them even watch from a distance.

As a result of a magical red ruby necklace that you were wearing being combined with your noble and pure blood and the power of a rare "crimson sun" (an occult event once every century), you are resurrected as a vampire.

However, you find that revenge has not brought you the peace that you thought it would bring.

At this point you realise that you have become a threat to humankind because of your insatiable urge to kill for human blood. However, your survival instincts are up and you may not have the strength to end your existence.

You also question whether or not there is a moral duty to end your existence given your threat to humanity.

There is also the possibility of using your powers for "good" and act as a sort of vampiric vigilante.

Please discuss what you would do and provide a moral justification. Remember, you have an urge for human blood that is tied to the act of murder, it can never be satiated to any acceptable degree unless you're actively killing... so as long as you exist, you are a literal danger to bystanders.

1. There IS a moral duty to destroy myself (for the good of humanity). I would destroy myself to protect the innocent.
2. There IS a moral duty to destroy myself but I do not have the strength to carry it out, I will continue to live (wrongfully) but I will try my best to use my powers for "good."
3. There is NO moral duty to destroy myself because I have no responsibility over my actions (it's just vampire biology) and everyone has a right to life, I will continue to live, be a witness to history, and use my powers for "good."

I think I would probably go with Option 2. I think that rationally there is a duty to destroy myself in this hypothetical but I will lack the strength to do it. It is possible that over the centuries my mindset might eventually turn to 3 but for a few centuries, I will probably be a brooding, miserable, self-loathing vampire.
