How am I moving the goalposts when you explicitly said "fair pay"?

Did you forget how this debate started? I responded to this post:

Notice how he is not saying they should have the right to reparations. He's saying it was owed to their ancestors by right.

You decided to pile on without actually reading what I was responding to.

Except, y’know, we as a society have decided that there is a right to a day’s pay for a day’s work, which didn’t exist at the time provided that the workers were black. But the right was decided afterwards, and the debate is not so much whether they had that right as it is-well. A lot of other things.

Oh, look at that. No mention of fair pay anywhere.

Oh, look at that. No mention of fair pay anywhere.

So you were disagreeing with something irrelevant?

Ifreann (the one who I was actually debating with) was asserting that people have a right to a fair day's pay for a fair day's work.

Whether or not people have a right to compensation for their labor is irrelevant to that.

Honestly, this is my fault for letting myself get roped into your red herring.

Individuals? Hell no. That's how the mess starts. Right into school districts and the cities that host them.

The problem is that some of these school districts gets tons of money thrown at them, all the money and education in the world won't matter if the children don't want to learn.

There are a multitude of policies we could put in place that would be beneficial to African-Americans more than reparations would ever be. It's a matter of asking ourselves, do we just throw money at impoverished communities or change the structures that perpetuate this poverty?

The fact that this is even debated is absolutely absurd. So, the federal government is going to force people to pay reparations for a practice that ended almost 160 years ago, to a group of people who are so far removed from the actual event, all because a bunch of bleeding hearts feel sorry because they're white and a bunch of radicals secretly want money? I'm sorry but no, screw that, and screw anyone who thinks its a good idea. My ancestors fought for the Union in the Civil war, and their names are on the memorials at Gettysburg. I even have their bibles, powder satchels, and rifles, so a big all FUCK YOU to Booker, Harris, Coates, Glover, and anyone else who preaches reparations, if you feel so guilty, take it out of your own money, not mine.

Nothing builds racial harmony more than forcing one race to pay money to another race regardless of facts.

Incidentally, does Elizabeth Warren pay for reparations or get reparations? I mean, she lied about being Native American to get into Harvard but if she identifies as Native American...

Well.she actually is 1/8 Cherokee (or smaller but nevertheless, she's part Cherokee). Also, I don't think the bill wants individual white people to foot the bill, so it won't be 1 race paying another, unless they're only gonna take white taxes to pay for this, well then Houston we have a problem.

On the history of Lehman Brothers:
In 1844, 23-year-old Henry Lehman, the son of a Jewish cattle merchant, immigrated to the United States from Rimpar, Bavaria. He settled in Montgomery, Alabama, where he opened a dry-goods store, "H. Lehman". In 1847, following the arrival of his brother Emanuel Lehman, the firm became "H. Lehman and Bro."With the arrival of their youngest brother, Mayer Lehman, in 1850, the firm changed its name again and "Lehman Brothers" was founded.

During the 1850s, cotton was one of the most important crops in the United States, and nearly all cotton was produced by enslaved people. Alabama, including the Montgomery area, had one of the highest reliance on slave labor in the United States. Capitalizing on cotton's high market value, the three brothers began to routinely accept raw cotton from customers as payment for merchandise, eventually beginning a second business trading in cotton. Within a few years this business grew to become the most significant part of their operation. Following Henry's death from yellow fever in 1855, the remaining brothers continued to focus on their commodities-trading/brokerage operations.

tl;dr, Lehman Brothers came into existence as a commodities brokerage, specializing in cotton futures in 1850s Alabama.

Especially if the tribe she claims to descend from was a slaveholding tribe.

Bullshit, her DNA test proves she's not 1/8 Cherokee, she's 1/1024th Cherokee at best and most likely lying about that too but she rode that gravy train for preferential treatment, no doubt at the expense of actual Native American students. I'm probably as Native American as she is and my ancestors came over here in the 1890s from Poland.

Ironic, considering the Cherokee owned slaves.

So then it's just going to be taken from everyone's taxes and then given to those of African American descent? I still see this not at all improving race relations.

Wait, how does this work for mixed race families? Like, will my mother have to pay reparations because she's White, but not my Hispanic dad? Just who's footing the bill here?

Wrong. Tribe membership is determined by the tribes, not DNA tests.

And besides, her test proves that she is less Native than most Americans are.

So I guess that means she has to use the money she gets from reparations to pay her own reparations.

Also are we really going to consider someone who is 1/1000th native American the same as actual full blooded natives? That alone is ludicrous. Does this mean those white people who are 1/infentismalith amount black are therefore entitled to reparations as well?
