Welcome to the 74th Cup of Harmony tournament, hosted on behalf of the WCC by the...

HOSTING COMMITTEE

...Please do not post in this thread unless explicitly invited by Cosumar and Mriin

Bid | History | Rankings | OOC Discussion

Another cutthroat World Cup Qualifying campaign has come to pass. In a vast multiverse filled with hundreds of football-mad nations, there will always be worthy teams left out of the dance. The Cup of Harmony is an invitation-only tournament for those select few who proved their mettle in Qualifying and caught eyes with their guile, steady improvement and admirable effort despite falling short. The best of the rest! Though it is not the World Cup, this tournament has a long and prestigious history in its own right (see link above). Sides that go all-in for a Cup of Harmony run can enjoy a deservedly competitive and potentially glorious end to their cycle... and set themselves up for better odds of qualifying for the next World Cup.

The Fiefdom Soccer Federation (FSF) of Cosumar and Mrii National [Football] League of Mriin are proud to be hosting the Cup of Harmony once again. It is an honor to have your teams competing in our dragon-infested lands. Every measure will be taken to ensure that it is an enjoyable experience for all involved. This is the Everything Thread, meaning all IC content relating to Cup of Harmony 74 should be posted here (Rosters, RPs, Scores, etc).

General Information
Mriin is a modern, liberal direct democracy. The first thing most visitors will notice is the majority population of satyrs (which in practical terms are Humans, But multicolored and with various goatlike features), known for frolicking in the islands' nigh-tropical weather.

The nation is largely split up along the lines of its three main islands, each with their own distinct demographics and culture. Groups A and B will find themselves on the largest island of Easthold, locale of the capital and the best beaches. Group C will play on the central island of Seastone, a volcanic chunk that has been hewn into stunning (if impossible to navigate) city and center of learning. Group D will head to one of the tamed corners of Westhold, the one island still largely wooded thanks to the forest-dwelling dryad people. Local detail can be found below, and any and all questions about Mrii environments and temperaments are welcomed via TG or Discord.

Maal || Group A
The glamorous megacity capital. There's a difficult choice to be had when visiting: Do you fly into Maal International Airport, in the heart of the urban sprawl with its ease of access to the rest of the island via light rail? Or to sail into the old city's harbor, a Mrii cultural landmark and still one of the most bustling parts of the country. The old city's narrow streets wind through stucco neighborhoods draped with cheap strings of multicolored lights, filled with anything from clubs to traditional restaurants, and leads out to the famous seaside bazaar. It dominates miles of the coastline with hundreds of independent merchants hawking any goods they can get their hands on from the ships that float by night and day, horrible fried concoctions that’ll shave years off your life, and an endless array of tourist tat. A little further towards the modern city center is a half-ring of ethnic neighborhoods if you've got a particular taste for Banijan, Equestrian, Farf, or Qadian cuisine. From there the skyline balloons into the skyscrapers of modern business dotted by the occasional theater or museum district to break things up. Games will also be played in two 'suburbs' that have been partially-conglomerated into the greater mass: Kaalen, a ludicrously expensive upscale neighborhood to the south, and the pleasant family-friendly Andü to the southeast.
Haven 65 000 || 1v4, 3v1
The MNL’s flagship stadium, hosting all of the national team, perennial league contenders Angels, and their historic archrival Dæmons. The sleek and modern structure was carefully placed so that you could walk in right off the bazaar, to enjoy many amenities hard to find elsewhere in the old city like non-claustrophobic bathrooms.
Public Park 25 000 || 4v3, 2v4
Often voted the best place to spend a sunny day, Public Park is an enormous complex Andü puts great effort into maintaining. A dozen pitches for the full range of semi-pro to youth play, track & field provisions, and even one of the few proper baseball fields in Mriin. And in one corner is a very open, low-profile stadium that hosts the Andü Volunteers as they ping pong between the Upper and Lower divisions.
Aerodrome 45 000 || 2v3, 1v2
Located just on the Kaalen side of Maal International Airport, which is typically seen as the border between the two cities. The expansive and heady seating is an impressive sight to behold--until you realize it’s largely empty as their second-rate local team can barely fill a fraction of it. Seeing the ‘drome sold out is one of the most anticipated things among Mrii sports nerds, many of whom have never experienced ‘nosebleed seating.’

the Farmlands || Group B
Taking up much of the northeast quadrant of Easthold are vast plains of wheat and barley, with the occasional town sprinkled in. The area provided much of the food that helped fuel Maal’s meteoric growth, but now the metropolis’ demands outstrip their production. Laws were passed subsidising the import of foodstuffs from elsewhere in AO to disincentivize brutal growing techniques that could damage the island’s ecosystem, so now the farmlands mostly consist of ‘gourmet’ growers catering to city dwellers with more money than sense. The very most northeastern point features Easthold, one of the three ancient draconic castles that the islands are named after; of which great lengths have been taken to mitigate the echoes of oppression they represent.
Wyvernscrest 35 000 || 1v4, 4v3
Built in the shadow of a redstone ridge important to local folklore--involving the mythical creatures named ‘wyverns’--Wyvernscrest tends to be regarded as the most scenic football stadium among Eastholders. It’s otherwise surrounded by the rolling plains just outside Northbrush, the slightly larger and more prestigious of the two ‘brushes. Their team--also named Wyvernscrest--has continued to rub salt in their rival’s wound by putting up consistently stronger, if still mediocre, results in the MNL.
Wyrmstone 25 000 || 2v3, 2v4
Built around a curious rock structure important to local folklore--involving the mythical creatures named ‘wyrms’--Wyrmstone tends to be regarded as the uneasiest football stadium among Eastholders. Southbrush authorities ensure the eponymous stone is completely secure and that the slight wobbling it seems to do is merely an optical illusion. The rickety wooden stands don’t exactly instill confidence either, but they’ve passed inspection.
Seagate 50 000 || 1v2, 3v1
Not quite built on the castle grounds of Easthold, the imposing tower still looms over the pitch as waves crash into the rocky shore just meters beyond the seaward stands. As the stadium is a wee bit distant from other population centers, taking a trip to Seagate via boat has become a pastime for both the Maal elite--who enjoy associating themselves with the remnants of the royalty--and the sailing community. But it was the recent construction of a light rail connecting to the ‘brushes that really started filling seats.

Vidial || Group C
It’s not a stretch to call Vidial a college city. But while you can’t throw a rock without hitting one, there’s an unusual concentration in the northern section of the city, where several sprawling campuses border and intertwine with each other. The sandstone spires painted in each school’s colors serve as signpoints when navigating the twisting, sometimes incomprehensible roads. And of course, to go with a college town, the tavern scene is thriving. It's boosted even further by the city’s brewing culture thanks to the largest gig in town being the University of Alchemy. Don’t go overboard with the potions--or do, just don’t be surprised if you get locked up for the night for disturbing the peace. Travelers are recommended to fly directly into Miner's Memorial airport, as the surrounding towns accessible by boat aren't much worth seeing.
Gold Field 60 000 || 1v4, 2v4
A multi-purpose field located in the heart of the University of Alchemy, and a pretty standard one at that--but with an air of no-expenses-spared layered on top. Gourmet vendors, high-brow potions being passed out by roaming vendors, and maroon-and-gold banners draped everywhere.
Flâneur 40 000 || 2v3, 4v3
The chic and intricately designed field well represents its alma mater, the University of Architecture. Walkways seamlessly interwoven into the concourse radiate to all parts of the campus and further to some of the students’ favorite dives, and it even sports this crazy retractable roof to selectively keep out the elements.
the Pub 27 000 || 1v2, 3v1
Unsurprisingly, most regular patrons of the Pub aren’t exactly there for the football. An ever-flowing tap of cheap potions helps distract locals from both the wrongs life has beset upon them, and the abjectly terrible football played by Vidial SC. Having real matches there will be a new experience, and we imagine travelling fans may be in for some new ‘experiences’ of their own. Make sure you don’t fall in the bathroom’s piss trough.

Hosingr || Group D
The oft-forgotten ‘third city,’ Hosingr provides the industrial base that is critical for Maal and Vidial to sustain as much growth as they do. Abnormally low in both non-satyr denizens and income, and having had their own chances to expand resoundly denied as much of the rest of the island are dedicated nature reserves, resentment has been a core part of the Hosingr experience. But they have been gradually opening up as of late, as they quickly latched onto the multiple success stories the MNL has brought, including swallowing the pill that sometimes foreigners can help make things better when applied strategically. Alaki'taru International was constructed recently to separate passenger flights from the grimy industrial ones, though if you like bumming with cargo containers the port is open 24/7.
Iron Alley 55 000 || 1v4, 4v3, 3v1
AFC Hosingr’s stomping ground lays smack between the factory district and a residential district, catching those both on the way to and coming from work. Seats are small and crammed together, and those in the rear rows better be tall to see much of value. The fervent fans always seem to have a good time regardless.
Dockside 31 000 || 2v3, 1v2, 2v4
Located in, unsurprisingly, the shipyard district. Hosts the creatively-named and surprisingly successful Harbor squad. Only slightly less cramped than Iron Alley, but with a nice ocean view through a sizeable gap in the stands along one touchline. The breezes help out quite a bit.

Welcome, Cup of Harmony invitees, to the Fiefdom of Cosumar

Cosumar... a kingdom in the extreme northeast of Atlantian Oceania, past Audioslavia. The current year of our calendar is 1016, marking over a millennium since Cosumarite civilization dawned with "The First 5800" - a motley horde of shipwrecked settlers of diverse, unknown origins. The current population is 900 million. The constitutional monarchy is led by King James II (69), Queen Charlotte (59) and their Royal Congress.
...

CULTURE: Cosumar is known for its wide-ranging civil freedoms (including very liberal perspectives on nudity/sexuality), obsessive space exploration and attempts to balance conservation of nature with technological advancement. According to the WA Census, Cosumar has the best Human Development Index in Atlantian Oceania and is second-most scientifically-advanced. 70% of Cosumarites are atheist, agnostic or otherwise irreligious and the government is entirely secular, but religious freedoms are respected. Of the remaining 30%, many adhere to a Cosumarite variant of Nordic paganism or other ancient folk religions of Cosumar (13%). There are also small populations of foreign religions: Buddhist, Christian, Muslim and Hindus (8% combined). Cosumarites are often stereotyped as high-minded snobs who look down on religion as "primitive mythology", and while that is not completely unfounded, you will find Cosumarites are even better known for being very welcoming of all people because of how we were an ethnic mish-mash from the start. Today Cosumar is deeply cultured, with vibrant art and music scenes thriving in historic urban centers. Ramusok's Renaissance Art and Heavy Metal undergrounds, for example, are internationally known. You can read more about your host city's specific culture below. We're also known for our dragons and weird holidays.

THE VLOO: Endemic to The Western Isles are the Vloo (homo cosumarensis), a sentient humanoid race native to Cosumar. Vloo have pale blue-tinted skin, two small horns protruding from their foreheads, and are distinguished by their surnames, with typically begin with prefixes such as Na', Va' or Vu'. The average Vloo height is about two inches taller than that of humans, and their two-pronged foot structure requires different footwear on the pitch. Vloo evolved in island isolation on The Western Isles from a common primordial ancestor millions of years ago. Cosumarites did not set foot on The Western Isles (AKA "Vloomar") until several centuries into our civilization, after most of our early instability and bloodshed had passed. There were, of course, initial skirmishes and mistrust, but large-scale violence between the two VERY DIFFERENT societies was mostly avoided. Centuries later, humans and Vloo live side-by-side as equal Cosumarites and relations are healthy. Vloo account for about 3% of Cosumar's total population, though they remain most heavily concentrated in the western regions. Humans and Vloo cannot reproduce, but romantic relationships are not uncommon nevertheless. Vloos' voices sound very thin and "clicky", but you can understand the once you get used to it. Their society was extremely collective and selfless prior to integration with Cosumar, with a measured sense of time oddly absent, and many still retain these principles in their communities. A juvenile Vloo.

GEOGRAPHY! TRAVEL! SPACE? Cosumar consists of a large landmass called Cosumarus (for context, roughly 70% the size of Australia) and a smaller landmass called Klyde Isle in its maw to the east. Together, they make a shape that is often compared to an alligator's open mouth and a pear about to be swallowed up by it. The land is divided into 21 provinces, historically known as "Fiefs". The Fiefdom also encompasses several extraterrestrial colonies (we mentioned our obsessive space exploration, right?). Please refer to these maps to observe the various cities and regions of Cosumar. We have a diverse array of landscapes. In general, temperature decreases as you move up diagonally from the semitropical southwest up to the northeastern taiga. Population is the densest on the moderate eastern coast and sparsest in the central desert or Cosumarite Azure Dragon reserve. You can read more about the climate and geography of specific cities below. Travel to population centers is made simple by our world-renowned TransCosumar Hyperloop, a system of high-speed monorails that safely zips around the country at speeds exceeding 700 miles per hour. Your teams' tickets have already been reserved, with private seating.

LANGUAGE: Most Cosumarites have chips implanted in their brain at birth that allow them to understand many of the world's major languages, so communication should seldom be a problem when out touring. Because Cosumar was born from a diverse set of heritages and welcomes many immigrants, this innovation did wonders for helping everybody communicate effectively and bringing peace and cooperation. The default language is English, but Swedish, Welsh, Vloo click-tongue, Spanish, Esperanto, Norwegian, Finnish, German, Latvian, Slovene and Japanese all have regions where they are prevalently spoken. A dialect dubbed "Cosumarite" is also heard here and there, but it is more of a patchwork of English and Nordic tongues than a language of its own.

FOOTBALL/SOCCER: Association Football is extremely popular as both a spectator and recreational sport - first in the Fiefdom in both regards, just ahead of Gridiron Football and Basketball. The 18-club Härlighet Ligan ("Glory League") is the highest level of the sport in Cosumar and has produced multiple UICA champion teams and World Cup Hall of Fame players. Most recent season here. Two additional tiers (the Sekundar Ligan and Tredje Ligan) round out the CosumarLigan entity. Further down, hundreds of clubs compete in regional lower leagues (Lägre Ligan). The national team (in its tenth consecutive World Cup), CosumarLigan and this very tournament are run by the sprawling Fiefdom Soccer Federation (FSF) and its centenarian president, Tomás Navarro.

| RAMUSOK, RAMUSOK FIEF |

The capital city. Home of the royal family, the King's Congress and 14 million others. Epicenter of historic dynasties. Bastion of knowledge and creativity. Young and eccentric, yet clean and elegant. Ramusok is the crown jewel of Cosumar, the pinnacle of a thousand years of Cosumarite civilization. As a multiversal city, people and species of all kinds live here, though the city does still retain a strong Swedish component leftover from the old Albertsson dynasty, evident in many of the place names. Pleasantly moderate for most of the year, though the winters can be chilly.

Tourism: If you appreciate history, Ramusok has much to offer: from the decadent royal palace at Område av Storslagenhet, to the iconic Thomas Street, to the jewel-studded Monolith of Lyra shrouded in ancient mystery. There are centuries-old libraries and museums everywhere. Yet Ramusok also boasts some of the most stunningly abstract modern architecture in the world, coexisting with the ancient in harmonic balance. Just see the all-glass resorts and offices overlooking the water on Azure Lane. Or the Forest of Lamneth - the largest urban nature park in Cosumar. The nightlife is extravagant thanks to the young and "hip" population (Ramusok Capital University and other prestigious universities are here). Make sure to catch some of the live music at night - there are venues specifically dedicated to genres ranging from black metal to neoclassical to indie pop to avant-garde jazz.

Venue: Farris Crowley Memorial World Cup Stadium (105,000) - This shiny new behemoth was built specifically to host the World Cup 78 Final (...and become the first stadium in Cosumar to hold 100,000). Mouthful of a name aside (it's already becoming known simply as "Crowley Memorial"), the stadium is a beacon of Cosumarite architecture. Sleek, simple, elegant, bathed in gold to match the King's own decadent residence just a block away. It replaced the old stadium at The Royal Palace as the home field of OAS Royal FC and the annual King's Cup Final.

| SAMOTATH, PAROUGAN FIEF |

The northernmost host city, Samotath is the last bastion of civilization before the heavily-populated eastern seaboard segues abruptly into the enchanted wilderness of the northern peninsula. It is an important sailor's city, often the first stop for ships arriving from countries to the north like Chromatika, and is also home to the Cosumar Navy. Samotath is known for its harsh winds, as it is the only major mainland that is not shielded from the ocean gales by Klyde Isle. In the winter, these winds become freezing and make it difficult to stay outside for more than 15 minutes.

Tourism: Before Cosumar was unified, four centuries ago, Samotath was the epicenter of many important dynasties in the northern region. Historical sites remain from ancient times such as the famous Lochinvar Castle, nestled stunningly in a rocky cliff face. The primary draw to Samotath, however, is nature itself. It borders the southern edge of the famous Cosumarite Azure Dragon Reserve, which sprawls across most of the northern peninsula. If you can brave the bitter winds, the many hiking or horseback trips around the reserve's border are exquisite amidst the alien rock formations and endless miles of pine, especially if you spot a dragon in the distant sky (crossing into dragon territory not advised because dragons). These dark mountainous forests are thought to have mystical properties and are holy in some old folk religions of the region. The city itself is known for its uniform style of architecture. Most of the large buildings are solid black steel or dark glass. It makes for a rather badass and futuristic skyline.

Venue: Alesund Stadion (60,000) - The home of FC Samotath, Alesund Stadion was completed ten years ago now to upgrade Samo's old crumbling stadium. Its technology and shape were intentionally designed to match the futuristic black-glass feel of the rest of the city. From the walls to the floors, everything inside is black...except for red seats in the lower bowl that spell FC SAMOTATH. It's also equipped for advanced pyrotechnics and has still the largest video screen in Cosumar.

| CRAWFORD, NUMENVERNIEN FIEF |

Located in the tropical southwestern corner of Cosumar, Crawford has 300-days-a-year sunshine. Known as "the capital of the West", it is the only city of at least 5 million west of Cassandra (over 2/3 of Cosumar). The total population is about 7 million, making Crawford the fifth-most populous city in Cosumar. Huge variety of lifestyles here, including the largest Vloo population of any host city and a colorful night scene (literally - neon lights everywhere here) swirling with the sounds of the famous punk rock and blues scenes. Known for having fickle sports fans, however. Crawford City FC winning this year's HL title might change that, however.

Tourism: Have a good of a time on the water at Lake Crawford, which the city sits on the edge of. It's not a large lake, but there are kayaking, swimming, and sailing opportunities aplenty. 30 minutes east of Crawford is Everlong Rainforest, a large swath of preserved jungle and swamp. In case alligators, toucans and sloths are more your thing. If you don't feel like driving/hiking to see the indigenous wildlife, Crawford also happens to have the largest zoo in Cosumar with a self-sustaining population of the rare Numenvernien spotted elephant, from which local Härlighet Ligan club Crawford City FC derives its "Elephants" nickname.

Venue: Orangi Stadium (61,000) - A fun and still relatively new stadium with an open, sunny ambiance that matches its city. Many seats have a view of Lake Crawford beyond. Its primary tenant is Crawford City FC, and the Crawford Comrades of the CFL also play here often.

| AZURIS, SOUTH KLYDE FIEF |

Klyde Isle is divided into two distinct regions: North Klyde Fief and South Klyde Fief. Enmity and cultural differences between the two go back centuries. While Klyde City up north is definitely the most important city on the island, your Klyde Isle experience would not be complete without a taste of South Klyde. As Azuris is pretty much the only major city in the more sparsely-populated southern half, it was a natural choice. Sunnier and more laid-back than the windswept Klyde City, Azuris became an important port because of its position on the southern coast, serving as a gateway into Cosumar's eastern seaboard (like, say, Ramusok) for nations south of Cosumar (AKA most of the region). Azuris is known especially for the remarkable lightness of its azure waters, after which it is named. It is also has a distinct latin flavor, being one of the most Spanish-speaking cities in Cosumar and having a high population from the nearby Western Sunrise Islands.

Tourism: Despite its warm climate and miles of coastline, Azuris is not a particularly great beach destination. Sorry to disappoint! Head to Pelethas for soft sand and tranquil waters. Azurians do know how to party hard though, so head to the city centre for a good time. Speaking of which, Azuris is known for its Spanish-styled architecture in the historic parts of the city that remain intact. Azuris also used to be the epicenter of Piracy back in Cosumar's seafaring age, so be sure to check out Fort Burroughs and hear of the legend of Admiral Burroughs, or Cape Discovery Lighthouse - where early Cosumarite explorers first rounded the corner of Klyde Isle and set foot in present-day Azuris. Azuris also has an interesting cuisine with some uniquely local seafood dishes and spices to try.

Venue: Estadio MasseMord (50,000) - AKA MasseMord Stadium, is the home of some very successful teams. UICA Champions Cup winners and six-time domestic champs Real Azuris as well as recent CFL gridiron champions: the Azuris Anthrax. Real MasseMord is an innovative 4D Virtual Gaming company headquartered in Azuris and has sponsored the stadium since its construction 20 years ago.

The Other World Cup
By Rami Niblick in Emberton

ALEXANDER Sampson's men may not be heading to Apox and Valanora, but silverware is silverware, and the Dragons' latest attempt at winning some will come in the NSWC's secondary competition - the Cup of Harmony. The long-running invitational tournament, which showcases the cream of those teams that failed to make it to the big one, will include Krytenia as one of its participants after the KFA confirmed it had accepted the invitation to compete.

Though the remaining participants are yet to be confirmed, it's unlikely that Krytenia will start as one of the favourites. Among those who failed to qualify are Barunia and Ethane, both of whom were ranked in the world's top sixteen at the start of qualifying. If either - or both - turn up in Cosumar and Mriin, they'll be tough nuts to crack.

For Sampson and his team, though, it's not necessarily about winning. Krytenia's failure to qualify is a problem more of the manager's predecessor's making, and the Dragons have performed mightily in their uphill struggle to qualify. With Sampson's contract only currently lasting until the end of this tournament, you'd imagine he'll be getting the team fired up to go far in the competition.

Later this week, the squad will be named to fly out to the tournament. Hopefully, the twenty-three chosen will share in Sampson's desire to prove himself to the country - and to the world at large. Onward!

OOC note: unfortunately, I will be away from a keyboard for pretty much the entire group stage. Might be able to post something short and poorly-formatted on mobile, but who knows. I will try to get something witty up pre-MD1, this being an RP tournament and all. Sorry! (It's for good reasons though, I'll be having fun.)

Manager: Makvala Tsereteli: Credited with Excelsior Slogda's semi-recent resurgence, she is usually keen on making substitutions and jiggling her lineup.

Goalkeepers:
1. Shobhana Birla (Namiri Forest) (f) (first tournament: Eagles Cup 7)
12. Joel McJakill (Keppal Cosmos) (m) (first tournament: WC80 Q)
23. Paige Daunten (North Sabrefell, Nephara) (f) (first tournament: WC82 Q)

Defenders:
2. Martin Scallop (Keppal Cosmos) (m) (1 goal) (first tournament: Eagles Cup 7)
3. Chevanthi Arokiaraj (Namiri Forest) (f) (first tournament: CoH 72)
4. Subroto Parida (Namiri Independent) (m) (first tournament: WC80 Q)
5. Franziska Schnee-Krull (KF Koflir, Qusmo) (f) (first tournament: Eagles Cup 7)
13. Allison Levi-Gold (Sporting Esper) (f) (first tournament: WC82 Q)
14. Sydney Stefred (Arlington City) (f) (first tournament: CoH 74)
15. Kurt Uehara (Eintracht Trink) (m) (first tournament: CoH 74)
16. Desmond McGowan (Spenson Suburbia) (m) (first tournament: Eagles Cup 7)

Midfielders:
6. Lucas Kukiseso (Spenson Suburbia) (m) (first tournament: WC80 Q)
7. Joshua Twoni (Arlington City) (m) (3 goals) (first tournament: WC82 Q)
8. Marlon Sayle-Bren (Sporting Esper) (m) (3 goals) (first tournament: CoH 72)
9. Ramona Ambaile-Hund (KF Koflir, Qusmo) (f) (6 goals) (first tournament: Eagles Cup 7)
10. Kendra Jover (Ephesian FC) (f) (captain) (3 goals) (first tournament: Eagles Cup 7)
17. Ricardo Valbuena (Ephesian FC) (m) (first tournament: WC80 Q)
18. Micah Angier (Eintracht Trink) (m) (1 goal) (first tournament: WC82 Q)
19. Ione Friede (Canbix Muses) (f) (first tournament: WC82 Q)
20. Satenik Banach (Keppal Cosmos) (f) (first tournament: WC82 Q)
21. Corianne Rogawski (Rovers United) (f) (3 goals) (first tournament: Eagles Cup 7)

Forwards:
11. Gabi Lanius-Sexton (Trebuchet Cham) (f) (first tournament: CoH 74)
22. Kostya Hart-Farm (Excelsior Slogda) (m) (3 goals) (first tournament: WC82 Q)

The most likely starting formation looks something like:

.................________................
..................|Birla|..................
Schnee-Krull.Parida.Arokiaraj.Scallop
............Jover........Kukiseso..........
....................Twoni....................
.......Ambaile-Hund.....Sayle-Bren.....

The parliamentary republic of Zwangzug, an antisocial social democracy now twelve years old (the decimal system is passe) has a long and--dare we say it--checkered history. The original national team competed through World Cup (qualifying campaign)s 33 through 42; a successor team participated in 64 through 69. After a hiatus caused by the country's sudden and devastating retreat into isolationism, a temporary recovery was made, and the national league (the 1./) which had emerged with the second iteration of the NT resumed play. Since World Cup 69, their involvement in the international world has been erratic; they won the 6th Eagle's Cup, and also participated in the seventh edition, where many of these players made their debut. They also participated in the WC80 cycle but were absent for 81.

Colors: White with black stripes. Or black with white stripes. We go for the basics.

More than you probably wanted to know about Zwangzug can be found in our factbook, unless what you wanted to know was...relevant to modern happenings such as the football team/league, in which case probably you're out of luck until the biographer is motivated to go back to work. Don't hold your breath (but feel free to motivate).

If RPing first, please feel free to name goalscorers, injure, and distribute cards to my players at will! You can also godmod events, though I'd appreciate advance warning if you want to take narrative liberties that I couldn't just as easily do to your team (due to being, e.g., an MT, mostly-human country). Put another way, metaphorical "godmodding" is welcome if clever, but I'd avoid the literal sense.

RP permissions: Your RP permissions are mine, short of death and career-ending injuries. If I can send off your players, you can send off mine. If your players can’t be booked, neither can mine. If I can rain a hail of meteors down on the city, so can you. Just make it funny/entertaining, if you don’t mind. ;)

Note: Saltsteadish surnames follow RL Netherlands Dutch conventions on surname prefixes: they aren’t capitalised when used in combination with first names or initials, but are capitalised in all other situations. For example, “Carle de Marħt” is correct, while “Carle De Marħt” is not; however, when the given name is not used, “De Marħt” is proper, while “de Marħt” is not.

Competitive statistics
Overall record:
...
First international: Saltstead 0–2 Loynn (Bellator, DRK; BoF 65 matchday 1)
First win: Finland 0–1 Saltstead (Bellator, DRK; BoF 65 matchday 2)
First loss: Saltstead 0–2 Loynn (Bellator, DRK; BoF 65 matchday 1)
First draw: Saltstead 4–4 Acapais (Bellator, DRK; BoF 65 semifinal)
Biggest win: Saltstead 6–1 Frejo (Port Michael, SOL; WCQ 78 matchday 5)
Biggest loss: Saltstead 0–4 Starblaydia (Maneapolis, EQS; AOCAF LVI matchday 3)

The default Saltsteadish strategy can be summed up in one phrase: “the best offence is a good defence”. The Stallions play a highly opportunistic attack, lying in wait for an opportunity rather than charging head-on. Possession is mostly confined to the midfield, keeping the ball comfortably away from Valeriė Rotsħeud’s goal and close enough to Saltstead’s lone striker Michael d’Angel for him to attack when necessary. Saltstead prefer to play a passing game in possession, while attempting to pry the ball away from the opposition when not, either by intercepting a pass or tackling players. The Stallions will attempt to frustrate and infuriate the opposition through tactics of time wasting, bus parking and—in the most desperate of circumstances—dirty play if necessary to achieve the desired result and are unashamed of drawing games and advancing via penalty shoot-outs.

A federation in the far north, Omerica is a cosmopolitan maritime nation, famed for its environmental beauty, thriving black markets and love of a good drink. Omerica is a federal parliamentary republic with a semi-direct democratic system of governance. An influential country in international affairs, the nation ranks as one of the most politically and socially free states in the multiverse. The nation is noted for having some of the most friendly, compassionate and brash people in the multiverse, who enjoy high rates of economic, scientific and cultural development. The nation is rated as one of the least corrupt and least authoritarian in the world, with low rates of ignorance, obesity, political apathy and preventable death.

About the Incorrigibles
Association code: OME
Team nickname: “The Incorrigibles”
KPB rating: 12.17 (61st)

Just like the history of the nation, the history of Omerican football has been rocky. The nation was one of fifty-six to début in Baptism of Fire 56, where the team made the knockout stage with an undefeated record before bowing out to Lons after extra time in the last 32. The Griffons subsequently floundered for several cycles, finishing below expectations in tournament after tournament and struggling to find their footing. But fortunes turned around during the Campionato Esportiva in the Sarian, where Omerica unexpectedly won their group and made the quarterfinals after defeating Yttribia. Despite falling to runners-up Nephara in a close match, the tournament marked a significant turn in fortunes: a bitter (and, to Osarians, infamous) third-place finish in the World Cup 73 qualifiers, two consecutive knockout stage qualifications and Round of 16 exits and—the nation’s crowning moment of glory—an upset qualification for World Cup 74, where the team scalped Flardania and nearly advanced to the knockout phase.

However, success proved short-lived. After boycotting CE XVI in Falatulu, the Omerican Football Federation found itself mired in a corruption and betting scandal. Combined with a riotous fanbase which had caused numerous bouts of destruction, the scandal dogged the team’s World Cup 75 qualifying campaign and ultimately brought the OFF to an untimely end, ordered dissolved by the Sessions Court of the Metropolitan Arrondissement and liquidated to cover the fines issued to its executives. In the aftermath of the scandal, the republican football associations, which had predated and existed parallel to the OFF, formed the United Republican Soccer Federation to take over the OFF’s functions and opted to indefinitely pull Omerica from international competition. Half a decade later, a new national team emerged to contest the Independents Cup and, after much internal debate, the World Cup with little success.
Staff
Manager: Anne-Sophie Groothuis
Now approaching the status of a minor deity to Omericans after being the first manager to lead the nation to a major tournament final at the sixth Independents Cup, where the Incorrigibles took perennial IAC bridesmaids Drawkland all the way to penalties. Prior to her time with the national team, Groothuis led Club du 28 Mars to local success on the regional and national stage and comfortably sealed the New East Flemish side a berth as a founding member of Ligue.A. A flexible and disciplined tactician, Anne-Sophie is known to favour a moderately attack-minded approach that has brought 28 Mars four New Flemish and two Federal Championships in her stint at the club, but is unafraid to mix things up from time to time in order to keep opponents guessing.

LONG-FORM ROSTER
GOALKEEPERS
#1 - Julia Atherton --- club: Eleven Retinues SC --- when she's not a footballer, she's... a mechanic at a local garage --- virtual age: 24
"It's hard to argue with one goal conceded every 210 minutes," we were told upon Atherton's callup to the squad by Coltfield after the latter's appointment. That figure's about 160 minutes if you take everything all together, which is still not shabby for the world's only professional pub league. :P Is this a case of favouritism? Doubtful - the manager was previously in charge of an even worse club. Beware the backhand, the general attitude, and... well, the rest of the defence, but other than that, you may know what to expect.

#16 - Tealeala noVenaxali --- club: New Lions Club --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a grocery-shop assistant --- virtual age: 29
Although not necessarily the best choice (c.f. Atherton :P) - having conceded barely more than a goal per game, as well as four in the first hour of the Tinhampton Cup final against the FC Tinhampton - he has been foisted onto the squad on the grounds of "well, he won the Megaleague" after obviously-ex-Miners goalie Josh Smith posed as a 19-year-old called Wasim Abdullah and won a place in Saranidia's army. Cheeky bastard.

#23 - Ryan Elliott --- club: Eleven Retinues SC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a bank teller --- virtual age: 27
Wait, you thought Whitbread's callup was ill-advised? Ryan Elliott has conceded an average of eighteen goals per game in his "professional" football career, although this can be blamed on having to replace Atherton for the last five minutes of the Retinues' 3-0 loss to Polaris after her dismissal. He used to play for them when they were still a pretty decent Sunday League team, though, so that apparently counts as a factor when you're a TFA selector.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DEFENDERS
#2 - Evan Morris --- club: Refinery Hills FC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a part-time swimming instructor ("I'm sorry, but Hannah doesn't want me constantly absconding when the kids need it the most") --- virtual age: 26
You have every right to respond to this selection with "Evan who?", unless you frequently observe park kickabouts in Tinhampton, which you almost certainly don't. Mostly because he didn't play in the first MegaLeague and was one of several zillion benchsitters during our campaign, or at least most of it. Regardless, after William Potter was kickbanned from the Miners in the wake of the Concord Heights incident, he has now been thrust front and centre... OK, he's the left-back and he didn't plan on lining up in the first place, but our only other option is a 35-year-old geezer who intends to retire soon.
#3 - Davina Salt --- club: Vertos United --- when she's not a footballer, she's... studying Sports Science at Vertos Campus, Tinhampton University --- virtual age: 19
"HUEHUEHUE," they said; "HUEHUEHUEHUEHUE." No matter what they might seem to think about how shitty the Vertosian defence might be - and this can't really be said for the rest of the back four, to be honest - Salt's hard work appears to have paid off, mostly in being recognised as its best player and partially in being recognised as a first-team-quality Tinhamptonian national team footballer. Well, we are Tinhampton, after all, so such is to be expected...
#4 - Nathaniel George --- club: Refinery Hills FC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a PR guru-in-training --- virtual age: 29
By donating just five dollars to the Centre for Tinhamptonian Missing Children, you can also help us reinvest in child protection systems for organisations everywhere: because together, our present can be their futu---wait, that's a bit of one of his advert scripts, isn't it? How on earth did we forget what he's been up to trying to defend for Tinhampton and actually defending for what was his club for one season before the strike thingy happened? Ah, yeah, that's right, we lost it in all the other paperwork. It wasn't just shipped off to Barker and Warden Advertising, surely?
#5 - Brian Small --- club: Westpark Guns --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a binman operating in the south --- virtual age: 28
Hmmm... is "Small" really the most appropriate name? Despite having been certainly outshadowed against the likes of Brenecia and being almost invisible against certain other teams (Oscioru? At least he got booked there and then, we're talking about other teams here), the man is out to get things right this time. Which, given that the Westpark Guns are an infamously defensive team, is not too much of a tough ask, surely... whether or not he even screwed up in the first place beyond Rozelle is up for debate.
#12 - Steve Andrews --- club: Eleven Retinues SC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... seeking employment --- virtual age: 35
In lieu of... well, Tinhampton City, really (at last), we have managed to convince our resident old-timer would-be player Mr Andrews over here *points* to abandon his proposed slumber and turn out for the Miners for one last time. If at all. Well, it is his first time. He still doesn't really plan on a future here anyhow, so please take your rumours of a Steve quota and shove them next to our... gold medal in whatever, to be fair.
#13 - Harry Porter --- club: FC Tinhampton --- when he's not a footballer, he's... working behind the scenes at Tinhampton's health service, please don't abuse him or you will be immediately escorted from the premises :P --- virtual age: 29
Yeah, or anybody else, for that matter, but the THS wants you to be aware of their rule against it, not that it's been needed very often (this is the bit where I look judgmentally at Priscilla Evans, right?). Anyhow, his fall from grace can be further underlined by noting how he has gone from a regular Tinhampton City reserve to a bureaucrat trying to be somebody, somewhere. On the other hand, he did find %DEITY% in the meanwhile, so...
#14 - Jamie Valley --- club: Midtown Pals --- when he's not a footballer, he's... on welfare --- virtual age: 27
Valley, until recently, represented the archetypical Tinhamptonian defender - play well, concede one (at least), but score one or two (which you'll probably have no involvement in) to help the Miners do something other than lose the game. Regrettably, in light of recent circumstances which cannot be named for legal reasons including, but not limited to, a heightened attitude to defence and... the Concord Heights scandal, poor Jamie has been condemned to the bench for the time being. Whether or not this will last is yet to be proven. Also, Oscioru.
#15 - Peter Wright --- club: Nuclear Geese --- when he's not a footballer, he's... trying to teach English at a local school --- virtual age: 32
Aaaahhh, another player who'se gone threu the ciecle of Tinhamptonian rise and fawl over the months. Inauguraly a Miner from the beginning ?, he has faced meny chalenges as of late, and now had ? a one added beneath ? his normiel shirt numbre. Witch must be pretty embrasing for the poor guy, evedently. ?
Not good enough, whoever wrote this roster. See me at Monday lunchtime with your corrections or risk detention.
MIDFIELDERS
#6 - Mohamed al-Khazr --- club: Nuclear Geese --- when he's not a footballer, he's... selling tickets for the Barrier Islands ferry --- virtual age: 27
Big Mo himself is one of "only" nine survivors from the team that started (and squatted on the benches at Centralis) for Tinhampton's debut - a 1-0 reverse to Electrum on the first day of World Cup 77 qualifying - and our first ever scorer when he came off the bench to net the only goal against Cetheque the next day. We haven't heard from him since... unless you're talking about the countless tackles, somewhat more countable goals and assists, and supposed pushes on Hannah Ranucci that you can count on one finger. Oh, yeah, that and the one he scored against Audioslavia. Wait, I think I've already mentioned that.
#7 - Peter North --- club: Eleven Retinues SC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a north-eastern postman --- virtual age: 28
Dependable, reliable, trustworthy, vulnerable to attacks by watchdogs - words that describe North by his trade and, as it so turns out, by his part-time career that he only took up because he accidentally opened a letter that was intended for Steve Cameron's (now-since-emigrated) younger brother inviting him to join the Eleven Retinues. (No Brenecian defenders have been handed a court order to be destroyed since that fateful night at Kingsgarden, thankfully.) But is he being chosen because he plays for the same club as Whitbread? Nope, absolutely not, nothing to see here...
#8 - Louise Whitbread --- club: Eleven Retinues SC --- when she's not a footballer, she's... an office receptionist --- virtual age: 28
With "permanent" captain Michael Young having been ejected quite a while ago from the Tinhamptonian squad by Coltfield, who better to replace him than... I don't know, some Retinues reserve who started all of six games last season and is probably only getting a start for Tinhampton for some baffling reason probably held inside Gladom Newion President Hazanta MeKonta's personal vault? At least she set up one and scored another, which is either truly impressive or rather shitty.
#9 - Fetakela Manuta --- club: New Lions Club --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a Baron of Bargains franchiser --- virtual age: 27
That "another" was a 35-yard free-kick that should have been ruled out after one of São Perebano's defenders was thrown overboard in the build-up (Julia Atherton was sent off two games later, for the record, not ten seconds). On the other side of the River Tin, meanwhile, Manuta - captain of the former Sochean national football team, which admittedly never played a single World Cup qualifier - scored once against Farfadillis' Avenida Leal, another one against Rozelle of Brenecia, twice more in the Cup Final, and another six in the league proper. Blatant goalscoring ability, pace and agility, dodgy connections to Dave Winner... what's not to like?
#17 - Johnny Holmes --- club: Refinery Hills FC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... a freelance journalist --- virtual age: 31
"But wait a minute!" I hear you cry, "Johnny Holmes has too much of a vested interest in Tinhampton to be playing for us, and he didn't even play in the first Megaleague!" The only legitimate response I can offer is that having a highly vested interest in the city to the point of fighting and dying for it is amongst the criteria for playing for the Miners... and Ruth Ford's son is also playing for the team, so shut up, OK? :P
#18 - Chris Richard --- club: FC Tinhampton --- when he's not a footballer, he's... seeking employment --- virtual age: 26
This is not the "CHRIS AGE 5" who drew Fenwick Tower in Munkchester, as certain worryingly eagle-eyed observers may have noticed. We can confirm that this is, however, the same Chris who missed the penalty that denied the then-Rejects the opportunity to leapfrom Eleven Retinues to second place in the inaugural Megaleague. Which, apparently, also counts as Tinhampton material when you consider his "work ethic" that has been pointed out to us. Only bench material, it must be said. Rumours that Rachel Coltfield can turn flesh and bone into wood and plastic remain unsubstantiated. Rumours about transsubstantiation. How meta-substantiated.
#19 - Aihlo Vatunska --- club: New Lions Club --- when he's not a footballer, he's... literally a janitor for hire --- virtual age: 28
The sweeper experiment was not only pretty shit but also proved that a diamond by any other name is still as shit for Tinhampton, which is why Vatunska now returns to his "home" in defensive midfield, where he occasionally resides in for New Lions Club (when he's not being yellow-carded, that is). 15 Miller Road, Tinhampton, since you asked so politely... that was the last address he gave us, we're told he left a decade ago.
#20 - Reece Ford --- club: Civil Engineers FC --- when he's not a footballer, he's... also a Baron of Bargains cashier --- virtual age: 31
Also one of the last nine to survive from WCQ77 (ten if you count assistant manager Ian Jones), he has been foisted onto Civil Engineers, named as such due to who founded it a hundred years ago or so, for some reason. By which we mean "fielding a team percieved to be a bunch of absolute nobodies is not a good idea." Given how long he's been rotting on the bench for, it appears unlikely that Ford is securely in either area... or in any area beyond TBS. Ruth and Peter would be utterly ashamed, except they're not. :P
#21 - Fred Ball --- club: FC Tinhampton --- when he's not a footballer, he's... one of our many government interns --- virtual age: 30
Did somebody say "nobody?" Ever since debuting for Tinhampton at the arse-end of the World Cup 77 qualification cycle, Ball has not just rotted but virtually superglued himself to the bench, and as a result is famous for almost nothing beyond being a civil servant... or an intern, depending on how you look at it. He's only going on the plane to Cassadaigua (and, if we find ourselves that lucky, the Equestrian States) because nobody else felt ready, which should tell you a lot, really.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

STRIKERS
#10 - Priscilla Evans --- club: Crystal Fair HC --- when she's not a footballer, she's... presumably the only full-time footballer in our squad --- virtual age: 33
If not for late, late stoppage-time drama (as can be perpetually expected from Coldfield, at least), poor Priscilla would have led Tinhampton to two World Cups. Alas! the lady is now forcibly parked in the Crystalline Caverns Crystal Empire when she's not playing for us, after Tinhampton was humilated by no less than three separate teams. At least she can score when it matters, apparently. Apparently. This roster has contained so much rumours and gossip that whoever wrote it is probably going to be libel-lawsuited into oblivion.

#11 - Ian Graham --- club: FC Tinhampton --- when he's not a footballer, he's... earning his coaching badges --- virtual age: 33
Graham remains a respectable figure in the Tinhamptonian squad, with a half-decent strike-rate and an all-around barely-above-average work ethic. Surely not good enough for Tinhampton, surely? Well... of course he is, owing to the fact that nobody else available was percieved to be good enough and he must remain in the squad to avoid a crisis up front. This is the official word of the TFA, and so it has been pronounced officially. Amen. :P

#23 - Ben Williamson --- club: Westpark Guns --- when he's not a footballer, he's... an advocate for the World Assembly --- virtual age: 24
As well as being the grandson of the late, great International Focus Party kingpin Jamie, the TFA were told that Ben was supposedly a good enough footballer to merit entrance onto our 23-man (OK, 19-man and 4-woman) squad yet again, having ironically rotted on the bench for Margaret-knows-how-many cycles after threatening to quit for rotting on the bench at Tinhampton City FC. That being said, he's been deported to the Westpark Guns, so it appears that everything's OK and little Benny will have a space reserved for him on the team for the foreseeable future. Apparently, am I right?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BACKROOM STAFF
Manager - Rachel Coltfield --- when she's not a manager, she's... somehow the only full-time member of Tinhampton's squad --- real-time age: 43
Remember her, the one with virtually zero managerial experience apart from half a season at the Nuclear Geese who took charge of Tinhampton for fifteen almost-disasterous games during WC79? Yeah, that one... she happened to return after Clive Turnbull called it quits, leading Tinhampton to two valiant reverses at Brenecia and Cassadaigua that spearheaded the Miners into their natural place in the hierarchy - the Cup of Harmony. And then again, in a somewhat more dismal and recent manner.
Assistant Manager - Ian Jones --- when he's not an assistant manager, he's... Tinhampton City's accountant --- real-time age: 40
It takes a lot of effort to become Tinhampton's first captain, a player-manager, a somewhat noteworthy cog in the Tinhamptonian midfield, an accountant, and do all that whilst winning more than 100 caps in a row. Regrettably, it takes slightly less work to lose almost all of that - the head of the Tinhamptonian Association of Chartered Accountants doesn't like football in general, for the record - and then get rewarded by being appointed assistant gaffer. Like so many before him (elsewhere, of course), his appointment was made on the basis of his being a star player. And, like virtually everybody else in Tinhamptonian football, not expecting success.
  • Style Modifier: -5 (or whatever is the most defensive style modifier allowed)
  • Yes, owing to a settlement we reached with George Nell to allow the third MegaLeague to go ahead, this is exactly the same 23-player squad that won the 73rd Cup of Harmony in Cassadaigua and Equestrian States.
  • Roleplay Permissions: No deaths (in this squad or elsewhere in Tinhampton), no wholesale changes of the Tinhamptonian squad (as I will define), no firing the manager, absolutely no obliteration of Tinhampton, no injuries longer than two games unless I TG you to the contrary, and no other unreasonable nonsense as I will define. Otherwise, whatever...
TINHAMPTONIAN KIT: Brown shirts with white socks and shorts for home, all-white for away, and all-green for whoever happens to be the goalkeeper now that we have some funds, whoop-de-doo.
During natural disasters the stadium is often used as a shelter. Tenkyo National Stadium is one of the largest stadiums in Kandorith in both size and capacity. It is a national symbol of Kandorese engineering and is also featured on special issued coins.
MANAGERIAL STAFF
Manager: Xander McDrew
The new manager rather failed in the Copa Rushmori but has an interesting set of friendlies scheduled to ramp the team up for the World Cup. With a strong playing career McDrew returned to the team with hopes of bringing them back to the World Cup, something the team hadn't managed to do during his playing career.
GOALKEEPERS
1 – Jacob Jingleheimer-Smitt – Blacklake Blues 92 Caps, 27 Years Old
The starting backstop for the national team has just a few games to go until he joins the ranks of centenarians for the national team. He had a strong run in the last qualifying campaign but did have a few slip-ups in the Copa Rushmori, and many around Taeshan see Esteban Foh coming into the starting XI sooner rather than later.
12 – Elvis Pacabel - Atlantea Hurricanes 3 Cap, 26 Years Old
The third-place keeper on the team Pacabel had a strong season for Atlantea Hurricanes and will look to help out the national team moving forward. He may get a spot start this campaign as Esteban Foh has had some knee issues, and that could be interesting if Jingleheimer-Smitt gets injured.
24– Esteban Foh – X Island Marauders 6 Caps, 22 Years Old
A great campaign for X Island Marauders was marred a little bit by the injures for Foh. While he led his team back to international play he did not do a great job of making starts in every game and that could be a concern for his plans of being the national team #1 in the future.
DEFENDERS
2 - LB, Alex Turniquette – X Island Marauders 115 Caps, 1 Goal, 29 Years Old Vice-Captain
The steady left back is the veteran member of the backline and will look to help sure up a weak performance in the Copa Rushmori by helping a strong qualifying campaign. This may be his last go at qualifying, and with Santiago Santiago biting at his heels regardless he may not get another chance to play in the biggest tournament.
3 - CB, Jamie Fasnacht – Blacklake Blues 88 Caps, 0 Goals, 26 Years Old
The first half of the center back duo spent another pedestrian campaign in Blacklake leading a strong defense that had little offensive output and that makes sense as he heads back to the national team. He may have to international campaigns left to count on, but like many of the past 30 years of Taeshani defenders he may never see a world cup.
4 - CB, Edison Trueblood – Blacklake Blues 88 Caps, 1 Goal, 26 Years Old
The second half of the center duo, Trueblood didn't have quite as great a campaign as his partner. Blacklake may have been competitive but they have also lacked a lot of forward play, and it does not help when one of your strong defenders spends half the season on the bench due to lack of fitness.
5 - RB, Daigo Coshan - Laketown Rangers 24 Caps, 22 Years Old
The new member of the backline Daigo Coshan has probably been the most in-form of the back four. With a strong club, and a strong ability to both defend and attack Coshan may be one of the keys if the Knights can campaign well in this qualifying outing.
14- Seth Green– Knightspurs 7 Caps, 14 Goals, 25 Years Old
Perhaps already surpassed as the heir apparent to the left back position, Green is still the best overall defender on the bench and will see a lot of gametime. He may not be the attacking stalwart Santiago is, but he gets the job done and managers love that in a defender.
21 – Santiago Santiago - Muhlhampstead (Apox) 0 caps, 19 Years Old
A move to Apox has continue the rising trajectory of Santiago Santiago. A strong attacker already he has gained a lot of positional awareness, and that has led to him being an easy call-up now for the national team.
23- Nelson Cartwright – Fadron Flight 7 Caps, 25 Years Old
Nelson Cartwright is the best center defense option on the bench, and while he will not likely see a lot of gametime with the strong duo ahead of him he may see some garbage time and a spot start with concerns due to the ever changing form of the center back duo.
MIDFIELDERS
6- CDM, Randall Abl Bakr – Tintown Terrapins 103 Caps, 4 Goals, 25 Years old
Having reached 100 caps only perhaps halfway into his career Abl Bakr continues to be the key part of the midfield. Shielding the backline is a big part of his job and he does that well. That said the backline has seen better times and he might be asked to do a lot more in the upcoming campaign.
6 - LM, Janson Jewsbury – Laketown Rangers 125 Caps, 7 Goals, 30 Years Old Captain
With Miles Snavely now a bench player Jewsbury has taken over the captaincy and in what is likely his last campaign he will likely push for everything he can from the young squad around him. It however, likely still won't be enough.
10- CAM, Alson Figueroa - Fadron Flight 23 Caps, 5 goals, 22 Years Old
Figueroa has proved a bright spark for the Purple Knights and can definitely do the same things Enrique Fuegahita could. However he tends to do a lot more finesse than his successor and in that way can often be brutalized out of a game in a way that the former player could get around.
11 - RM, Geoffrey Klingenberg - FC Brimstone (APX) 71 Caps, 8 Goals, 24 Years Old
The best starter on the team has finally earned a move and joins a group of ex-pats in Apox. A strong attacking winger, with an ability on free kicks, Klingenberg seems like the next great player for Taeshan. That said it remains to be seen if they will do anything of value even with a strong contingent of players.
15 – Kalvin Talbot – Bayern Phoenix 9 Caps, 25 Years Old
A steady option on the bench.
17- Sahler Moon – Real Atlantea 15 Caps, 1 Goal, 25 Years Old
A great attacking option,
18 – Shiloh Morgenstern - Al Haxire 2 Caps, 1 Goal, 18 Years Old
Perhaps the best option on the bench in midfield.
19 – Nycolas Jackson - MT Ceabring Thunder 2 Caps, 15 Years Old
Too young to do much of use.
20 – Aston Shelby- Los Riosa Monstas - 14 Caps, 24 Years Old
Technical.
22 – Wallace Kepler – Tintown Terrapins 3 Caps, 22 Years Old
Also on the team.
STRIKERS
7 - RS, Aleksandr Denisov – Oldhem Knights (Apox) 88 Caps, 19 Goals, 29 Years Old
Originally deployed as a speedster alongside Miles Snavely, Denisov has come a long way and now tends to be the more technical of the two forwards. He is likely in his last campaign as he strive for his 100th cap.
8 - LS, Abriel Torres - Cloudsedale Flyers (Equestrian States) 8 Caps, 1 Goal, 21 Years Old
From relative unknown to national team starter, Torres is a strong, speedy attacker who likes to slash and dash. He is always a threat, though he like many youngsters lacks the finishing ability of a more experience player.
13 – Miles Snavely - Laketown Rangers 205 Caps, 116 Goals, 34 Years Old
A strong player on the bench, a lot of experience, but not quite the 90 minutes left.
16 – Silian Cantebury – Mierton Manatees 14 Caps, 1 Goal, 22 Years Old
younger option on the bench.
My overall account that I use for P2TM and even for international roleplaying! Dominion of Oberour Ar Moro
National Football Team
Cup of Harmony 74 Roster
Staff
The public and the Ministry of Culture are satisfied with Kadvael Heault and his staff's work over qualifying, despite the uninspiring finish after being officially eliminated from the World Cup. Publically Heault has been satisfied with his results as well. But now the National Team should be looking for a better finish in Cup of Harmony 74 than they did in Cup of Harmony 73. Heault's pared down his player pool to 23, now they need to score goals and win games.
Manager: Kadvael Heault, age 64 (previously Regium Immortal Manager, Antenne Sports studio football analyst)
8 wins, 8 draws, and 5 losses in international competition
Assistant Manager: Guenole Boudin, age 62 (previously Regium Immortal Assistant Manager)
Assistant Manager: Matthieu Augier, age 35 (previously Regium Immortal Assistant Manager)
Goalkeepers
At no point did Laurens Desainctvictori look like his starting role on the National Team was in danger, and he will be between the sticks for the Cup of Harmony. Raphael Friquan and Ivon d'Erblay are lesser talents at keeper, and would be a major downgrade if they were forced to step up. Luckily for Oberour Ar Moro, Desainctvictori has been a consistant presence.
#1 Laurens Desainctvictori, GK, age 28 (KF Poljak (Qusmo))
34 Caps in International Play
#12 Raphael Friquan, GK, age 34 (Invicta)
5 Caps in International Play
#24 Ivon d'Erblay, GK, age 33 (Regium Immortal)
2 Caps in International Play
Defenders
Oberour Ar Moro allowed 37 goals over 18 games in World Cup qualifying, and Manager Heault declared Mission Accomplished for the defense. Margas and du Bourc-la-Reyne were the primary defenders during qualifying, and they retain their posts for the Cup of Harmony. If they can hold opponents to two goals a game and the offense going forward can keep up their goal scoring work, Oberour Ar Moro could be competing for the knock-out rounds.
#2 Gwion du Bourc-la-Reyne, LB, age 28 (de la Charite)
15 Caps and 0 Goals in International Play
#3 Lunen Margas, RB, age 24 (Occident)
36 Caps and 0 Goals in International Play
#14 Gilduin Sireu, LB, age 27 (Meridian)
6 Caps and 0 Goals in International Play
#15 Acacius Thibault, RB, age 28 (Fleuriot)
3 Caps and 0 Goals in International Play
Sweepers
Any one can tell you that the key position on any Oberour football team is the Sweeper. The importance of the role can be seen that the four sweepers from the last qualification effort returned for this roster. The job is too important to give to any amatuers.
#10 Josselyn Pessiere, SW, age 34, Captain (Patrons)
35 Caps and 10 Goals in International Play
#11 Marzhin Petit, SW, age 26 (Fleuriot)
39 Caps and 1 Goal in International Play
#22 Phelippon de Gentilli, SW, age 30 (Altair)
34 Caps and 9 Goals in International Play
#23 Drev Brébeuf, SW, age 27 (Hibernus)
17 Caps and 5 Goals in International Play
Midfielders
While Brevalan Gaspard and Jerian Pellier looked solid, if unspectacular, at their midfield spots, manager Heault was never fully satisfied with his options at Left Midfield during qualifying. Morvan Saurine did not so much win the job as all the other options lost. Overall, Heault would like for the midfield to be more involved in the offense than they have thus far.
#5 Morvan Saurine, LM, age 28 (Altair)
7 Caps and 0 Goals in International Play
#6 Brevalan Gaspard, RM, age 28 (Bourne River (Ethane))
37 Caps and 8 Goals in International Play
#4 Jerian Pellier, CM, age 29 (Invicta)
14 Caps and 0 Goals in International Play
#17 Johannes de Cerisi, LM, age 33 (Regium United)
1 Caps and 0 Goals in International Play
#18 Peterne de Courbueil, RM, age 23 (Patrons)
5 Caps and 1 Goal in International Play (4 Caps and 1 Goal in Under-21 Competition)
#16 Collas Boutier la Reyne, CM, age 32 (Confessor)
3 Caps and 0 Goals in International Play
Forwards
Of all the forwards, Taran Bele has been on the most impressive tear, scoring nearly a goal an appearance over World Cup qualifying and the Di Bradini Cup. Scoring against TigerSharkistan and San Rocca is one thing, he will need to show he can get goals against stronger teams to truly challenge Kerrian Odierne for minutes.
#7 Eneour Pique-Pain, LW, age 25 (Patrons)
42 Caps and 7 Goals in International Play
#8 Ruran l'Ermite, RW, age 26 (Regium Immortal)
39 Caps and 10 Goals in International Play
#9 Kerrian Odierne, ST, age 30 (Cyrene Bay)
40 Caps and 22 Goals in International Play
#19 Jakou Chirot, LW, age 29 (Aris)
5 Caps and 0 Goals in International Play
#20 Selyf Broderesse, RW, age 27 (Myrrh-Streamer)
3 Caps and 1 Goal in International Play
#21 Taran Bele, ST, age 23 (Invicta)
6 Caps and 7 Goals in International Play (4 Caps and 4 Goals in Under-21 Competition)
Legend had it that a team of plucky Sunrisians conquered the world twice, impressing bystanders and shutting down nay-sayers. This isn't a tale of equal standing, but rather, the story of how the distant grandchildren of those men and women came in town, decked in the closest to a set of royal colours possible with the wish to do them better.
HOME STADIUM
Tentai National Stadium
Capacity: 67,150 - Tentai City, Tentai - Tenants: Tentai Astros
Recently built under rule by the Hinodejin Imperial Court, this state of the art venue was built to host games of top tier team Tentai Astros, but more important than that, to host the national team's games at the new capital of the Empire. It's also supposed to represent part of the renovation process spearheaded by the current queen towards this city, once the capital of one of the fiercest enemies of the empire, now acting as one of the jewels of her crown.
RP PERMISSIONS
As you might've noticed, this team isn't entirely human. Just wanted to point out they're still fairly close to being human, just in case and a brief search will give you a good idea of what they look like, plus you can ask me about them if you want. Please don't kill the players. Injuries for large stretches of time have to be informed by telegram, or else they'll get the ignore cannon treatment. Anything else (bar anything that destroys any city of the empire or its' people, just in case anyone gets a bit too creative) is fine by me.
Sajnur to appear at the Cup of Harmony!
The Sajnur national football team has been invited to compete at the 74th Cup of Harmony! While Sajnur was unfortunate not to qualify for the World Cup, the World Cup Committee has invited Sajnur to its other pan-national tournamnet in recognition of Sajnur's meteoric rise during the course of World Cup qualifying. Cosumar is a prominent footballing nation that is currently ranked in the top 20, but Sajnur may receive a frosty reception given that Cosumar had a loss and a draw against Sajnur.
Nation: Sajnur
Trigram: SAJ
Style Mod: +3.0
Typical Formations: 4-3-3, 3-4-3, 3-5-2
Manager: Eliseo Marinon
Prominent Players
Piotr Laghiev has proven once and for all that he is a world class goalkeeper with his stunning performances between the posts helping Sajnur defeat such prestigious opponents as Mytanija, Mattijana, and Cup of Harmony hosts Cosumar, and will be relied on yet again to protect the goal from any mistakes that the line in front of him may make, although the defence has become significantly better over the last season.
That defensive line is marshaled by vice-captain Tomasi Vuierev, who normally lines up in the centre for the national side, but often appears at right back, especially in domestic football, where his all round defensive ability is complemented by his good pace and decent crossing ability. Taulant Haji is Sajnur's premier fullback. and while he has been good in defence, the right back is better known for his offensive abilities, his dribbling, crossing, and wicked pace making him a nightmare for any left back he comes up against, and Haji has developed an accurate pass and a deadly shot as well, thus he is often used as a midfielder or wing back. Indeed, over the past season he has seen time on the left hand side of the field to take advantage of his shooting, long passing, and ability to cut inside with the ball.
Sajnur's newest big thing in the defence is Kahala Murje. A star in the centre of defence or on the left, she has proven herself to be one of Sajnur's best defenders, even though she hasn't yet turned 17. Kahala is able to position herself in the way of even the best and fastest dribblers and if she can't force them to make a mistake she can take the ball off them herself. She does get given the occasional card. but this is a symptom of her general aggression rather than any ill discipline. Offensively, she has an accurate cross, good passing, and the ability to find space on the wing, making her a valuable left back, although her ball control is not in the calibre of Taulant Haji's. She has recently gained a reputation for a powerful and dangerous shot from distance, too, with two long range goals in qualifying, her first helping Sajnur to a shock last second victory over Cosumar, although this may mean that during the Cup of Harmony she may receive a less than harmonious reception from the Cosumarite fans.
Alan Gharici will be the squad's oldest player at the Cup of Harmony, but while he is a veteran in Sajnuran football, he is no longer a starter in Eliseo Marinon's lineup, his place having been taken by the young Murje. Nevertheless, his experience in pressure situations will be of big help for the team.
The midfield is anchored by either Zain Hasan or Kaori Hajat. Hajat generally sits back and uses his strength and aerial ability to protect the defence, and rarely gets forward, instead choosing to distribute the ball from deep. Indeed, he often plays in central defence himself, both for club and for country. Hasan is more of a box to box player, and when he is supported by Hajat he frequently gets forward to support attacks.
Sajnur's playmaker is captain Jessica Siafik. She is arguably the country's best footballer, and if Sajnur scores, she is probably involved. She passes between defenders, around defenders, or over defenders. She finds gaps with short passes, she finds gaps with long passes. Her passing is always accurate. When there are no passing opportunities, she's not that bad at shooting or dribbling herself. Jessica will also send free kicks past just about any obstacle, up to and including anti air defences. She can do just about anything. Except slide tackle. Siafik does not slide tackle.
Sajnur's fastest players are Dario Tule and Ahmed Nazar. The wingers generally have a simple job description: Get forward and whip the ball into the penalty box. Of course, neither player is a one trick pony, and both are able to shoot and pass, with Nazar sometimes found as a second striker. The first striker? Andre Naulo. He scored twelve goals in qualifying with a devastating shot from all distances and the pace and positioning to get himself a nice place to shoot from.
Sian Levici and Rowan Down are more rounded options in Sajnur's attack. Most often playing behind the striker for their clubs, both players have seen action on the wing for their country, their impeccable ability both on the ball and delivering it making them great options out wide, even if they're not quite as fast as Tule or Nazar, although they're certainly by no means slow. Levici has also been seen playing alongside Siafik in the centre of the park to take advantage of his great playmaking ability from deeper, while Down is also an option up front as he plays there frequently at the domestic level.
FILINDOSTAN
National Football Team
Cup of Harmony 74
The Filindostan Football Federation is pleased to present the Filindostan National football team, to compete in the 74th Cup of Harmony in Cosumar and Mriin. The Pula Garuda returns to the Cup of Harmony after a season of absence, having failed to impress the previous edition's hosts in their qualifying campaign for the 81st World Cup. They would have made it two had they prevented their 0-2 defeat against lowly Britaen that denied their hopes of a World Cup finals qualification spot, and will be one of the dark horses to win the Cup of Harmony this time around.
About the Filindostan Football Federation
The Filindostan Football Federation (FFF) was founded after they split from the Filindostani National Sports Commission (FNSC), citing the FNSC's tainted image during the Multiverse Boxing.ccanization boxing tournament and the budget cut the agency suffered. The newly-established federation caters to the nation's footballing affairs and sanctions the selection of the senior, under-21 and under-15 squads. The FNSC will remain the agency for fielding other national football teams that are not sanctioned by the FFF.
The FFF's headquarters are located in San Marco, Filindostan, and is headed by Estrelitta "Estie" Barzagia.
Playing Squad
In Filindostan, people are often called by their nickname. Some players opt to put their nickname instead of the customary last name in their kits. The shirt names for the squad are noted by ALL CAPS. So for example, Alexander Jampang's shirt name in his kit is ALEX JAMPANG. Likewise Antonio Rafael Vera will have his kit name as TONYO.
After Ethel Toh took over the managerial duties, she ordered the change in kit names, bearing the surname of the player and the initials. For example, before the Toh era, Cahya Kartawijaya had her kit name as 'CAHYA', but during the Toh era, it is currently 'C.S. KARTAWIJAYA'. New manager Xavier Rinoso looks to keep the new trend moving forward, with one exception - singular names will be kept singular (e.g. Dwi, Sutikno, Siharto, etc.)
The following players are called up into the national team for the tournament.
The exile of several players under the Ethel Toh regime is over. Several key players return, as most of the players played under Toh kept their spot in the squad, though the only spot which was in need of a revamp was the central midfield. Bar Mordecai, other players slightly disappointed, and the return of the trio of King, Yakob, and Mohd Safri will help them rediscover the form they sorely missed during the period.
A problem that was evident was the lack of clean sheet in the entire qualification process. They only managed to record 2 clean sheets all season, and despite this, Rinoso decided to keep Abram and Cahya and call up only one of Gerry and Tonyo - the manager decided to pick the former for experience, and he will lean on the Perokojak keeper to restore the defensive confidence they somehow lost during their campaign.
The Filindostani Empress of Defence, Dina Satyawan, is rumored to announce her international retirement at the end of the tournament, and it would be a good opportunity for her to end her international campaign on a high with the Cup of Harmony winners's medal hoping to be included in her medal case with the Baptism of Fire winner's medal.
Goals was not a problem this season, though he might prefer the girl power partnership of Yish and Ina over the Perokojak partnership, which he may deploy in some of the matches in the tournament.
Kits
Image
Local kit supplier, No Nonsense, provides the kits for the Pula Garuda. The kits will be used until the World Cup 82 season, where they are expected to switch to a new kit manufacturer. They have used the current kits from their debut in the Baptism of Fire tournament which they won. The home kits are clad in red and are usually paired with black shorts and white socks. For color clashes in shorts and socks, they use their all red kit. Their alternate kit is white, usually with red shorts and socks, but can be black shorts and white socks in case of color clashes. The goalie kit is all black (or in black shorts and socks), but in case of color clashes, a yellow version of the GK kit is available.
Team RP and Permissions
The below information will help teams RP against my team in case they RP first.
Lineups
After Twilight Striker's departure, Caretaker manager Ethel Toh preferred the old school 4-4-2 formation, though she sometimes adjusted the formation of the lineup to a 4-3-1-2 or a 4-1-3-2. She believes in the philosophy of a back four. Incoming manager Xavier Rinoso sees the benefit of the changes as they put up 11 wins during their campaign, though he is not afraid of mixing it up to a usual 3-5-2 or a 3-4-3.
The projected starting lineup is as follows, barring injuries and suspensions, unless noted for the upcoming matches:
4-4-2
C. S. KARTAWIJAYA
R. G. TESSIN -- D. N. SATYAWAN [c] -- K. WEICI -- C. LIKUMAHUWA
J. WEICI -- M. J. L. RIVAS -- H. E. TISANG -- D. CAMBO
M. L. STA. LUCIA -- I. TETERISSA
Play Style
The play style of the team is of a more attacking lineup, looking to score more goal scoring opportunities. The team usually utilize pacey wingers to deliver dangerous balls to the penalty box, usually during coordinated attacks. Filindostani players are usually physical, especially the defenders. Cautions are mostly common due to their physical plays.
Fans
Filindostani fans are double-edged swords - sometimes they are most passionate fans in Filindostan, sometimes, they can be compared to the worst of internet trolls. Around five thousand diehard fans will travel to the host nation to watch their team play - but they usually bring their megaphones and flares with them - they somehow make it past the guards. Some fans are crazy enough to invade the pitch and cause match delays.
Unused Kit Numbers
12 - Reserved for the 12th man (fans)
21 - Unofficially retired in honor of Lorenzo Mark MATIENZO
The Nacional, who twice (but not in a row) almost qualified for the World Cup, losing the vacancy for South Covello in WC80 and for Mercedini in WC82, it is practically the same of the qualifiers. With good performances, Victor Egremont was maintained, and the young Lukas Hiltmann, perhaps stricken by inexperience, leaves the team. The Lisander Football Federation expects a good performance in this Cup of Harmony Edition.
Squornshelan Remnant States Black-and-Reds Roster
Finishing three points behind Pasarga in Qualifying Group 7, the Black-and-Reds will not be taking a trip to Apox and the Eternal Empire. While fans across the Confederacy will have to wait at least two more years for the long-awaited return to the World Cup Finals, another overachieving performance in qualifying has seen the Confederacy invited to once again take part in the Cup of Harmony. This 74th edition of the WCC's Best-of-the-Rest consolation tournament will be hosted by Mriin and Cosumar, and promises to be a very competitive tournament, with a number of highly-ranked sides missing out on qualification this cycle. Despite the high level of competition likely to be found, SCFA President Rijkhard Provorov and national team Manager Bethany Donnell issued a joint press release announcing that the Cup of Harmony would be approached mainly as an opportunity to develop and assess up-and-coming talent in the national team pool. They assured the press that several starters, particularly those who are younger would still make appearances, and that the Confederacy is not abandoning any attempt to advance, but that the importance of bringing young players along, with a view toward successful qualification two years from now, is paramount. Accordingly, several familiar names are absent from the roster this time around, most notably starting goalkeeper Istaro Munib and vice captain center back Tervi Oleb. Provorov and Donnell assured fans that a lack of inclusion here should not be taken to mean any player has fallen out of favor, and stressed that many of them will be back again soon.
A very down-to-earth manager who drills humility and discipline into her players, making sure they do the hard yards and don't get carried away with their status. After she was let go midway through her second year at Northern Union, the SCFA extended an offer based on the promise of her seasons spent at Pikemouth. There, she was able to build a smaller club into a consistent lower-league challenger, and the hope is that she can do a similar job with the still fledgling Black-and-Reds. She is viewed very positively in the Confederacy by both fans and SCFA leadership, having delivered a Round-of-Sixteen appearance in her competitive debut at the 6th IAC Championship, and leading the Black-and-Reds to within three points of qualifying for the 82nd World Cup. The vast majority of Confederates are optimistic about the national team's future under her leadership.
Player Profiles:
Goalkeepers
Club: Bishop (NPH)
Krieven is beginning to come into his prime as an athletic, aggressive keeper, relying on his excellent reflexes to bail him our for any lapses in positioning. He is a solid stopper of set pieces and penalties, but can sometimes be caught off his line by clever attackers. The beginnings of his post-Interblag career have not gone entirely to plan, as Bishop hovered on the edges of the relegation zone of the Nepharan Premiership all season long before losing in the playoff. That said, their struggles cannot really be blamed on the young keeper with the woeful goal support he received. With the youth movement prioritized for the Cup of Harmony this year, Krieven will get his first opportunity to be the top choice keeper, and will be looking to emerge from Munib's shadow.
Club: Lublova Reds
Joining Lublova from Arkintoofle United one year ago, Povarnin has seen his star rise rapidly, and he already seems to have passed by Slater Jant and Kinner Mustahil in the eyes of the SCFA. Lublova, traditionally an all out attacking team, put up their best defensive effort in years, thanks largely to Povarnin's acrobatic performance. Whether he can catch Stovar Krieven remains to be seen, as the young starter's as of yet unblemished record will be tough to match.
Defense
Club: Foxchester Raiders (STB)
Dzarkin's lack of offensive contributions limited his ability to contribute in Lopal Daror's system, which depends heavily on wing backs pushing forward, but something in his form has impressed Donnell, who has him ahead of Geladi on the depth chart. Dzarkin is a dependable defensive presence on the wing, and does an excellent job of closing off potential lanes for crosses.
Club: Lublova Reds
As by far the most experienced center back on the roster for the CoH, Raktsov will have to take on the leadership role normally filled by Tervi Oleb. This should present him little trouble, as it is the role he plays for Lublova. The Molvanian is strong in the air, and will occasionally be a threat from attack set pieces. Lublova's performance fell well short of expectations this year, but their defense was uncharacteristically strong, largely due to Raktsov's leadership.
Club: Jaglan Royals
Like Oleb, Dalso was the anchor on a team tied for the fewest goals allowed in the league this past year. Now coming into his prime, Dalso looks like a prime candidate for the future of the national team. While the contributions of his club teammate Suharto should not be discounted, Dalso's play at a fairly young age has been impressive.
Club: Jinja City (BNJ)
In somewhat of a surprise, it was Ulcviecel who drew the highest transfer fee during the last window, earning 4M for Interblag on his way to Jinja City. He is probably the fastest player on the roster. His pace allows him to surprise attackers who may think they have him beat, as well as to run right by defenders who misjudge his acceleration. Overlapping runs are a specialty of his, and while his crosses are not always as accurate as one might hope, he is unquestionably a valuable weapon.
Club: Algolia AC
Delu has definitely seen his star rise along with Algolia's strong play. Whether it's entirely his own development, or due in part to the Suntigers' additions in attack, he has made strides in developing his play going forward. While he is still not the dynamic force that Ulcviecel provides, he is a dependable right back, known particularly for keeping his calm under pressure, and a more well rounded player than he was a year ago.
Club: Damogran FC
One of the first women to make an appearance for the Black-and-Reds, Acuff's strength is in her athleticism and technique. Though it may give fans heart attacks, she is adept at dribbling her way out of tight spots, and taking the ball off defenders with fairly minimalist tackles. In a word: finesse.
Club: Traal Athletics
Nakhutin, who has had the privilege of developing under the wing of Tervi Oleb at Traal, is another center back entering his prime, who has a definite shot at national team play in the future. He is built in the classic Squornshelan mode for center backs: tall and lanky with excellent aerial abilities.
Club: Damogran FC
After escaping from relegated Golgafrincham a year ago, Torluk was a major part of the defensive revamp that helped Damogran achieve a fourth-place finish. While not quite the towering presence that some of the other center backs on the team are, he is a dependable player and excellent man-marker.
Midfielders
Club: Brantisvogan FC
Ruoho will the the latest candidate to attempt to fill the hole vacated at left mid by Jzeovak Vladcik's move to forward. The Brantisvogan attack, which also featured Girma Mikhulat, Keshav Rallitaitis, and Fedrea Quazin was one of the league's most dangerous last year, and missed out on the championship by just a few points. Ruoho, like Tambura opposite him, is more of a distributor than a pure winger, and will range into the middle on occasion.
Club: Tekstil Ibon (MYT)
Tambura was again a huge factor in Athletic's good performance, propelling them to promotion into the new Super League, but unlike last year, he won't be back, as he has been sold to Tekstil of Mytanija. In contrast to Zonde, Tambura will readily range into the middle of the field, playing shorter passes and supporting the ball carrier. While he remains second on the normal depth chart, Zonde will be sitting out the CoH, leaving Tambura as the first choice at right mid. He also filled in capably at left mid during qualifying.
Club: Traal Athletics
Team captain and leading scorer, Damot will once again be the focal point for the attack. As he is at Traal, he will be the primary distributor of the ball and the main set-piece taker. His small stature, only 5'9" (175cm), gives him a low center of gravity, allowing him to quickly make multiple direction changes and cutbacks to open space for a pass or shot. His accuracy from long range means goaltenders need to be on their toes any time Damot has the ball in the attacking third.
Club: Megabrantid SC
Teklu signed with MSC this off-season hoping to help them build on their Confederacy Cup winning season. She'll join a talented young midfield, and should be a valuable addition with her field vision and passing skills.
Club: Algolia AC
While he's been on the radar of the national team selection committee for a few years, Stolp had a breakout year with Algolia coordinating their midfield and distributing the ball to their new attackers. At just 22, he has a lot of developing left to do, but the chance to learn from Damot as part of the roster for a tournament like the CoH will be a great opportunity for him.
Club: Emerald Coast AC
Signing Naqvi, who has shown to be a capable winger is a potential steal of a signing for ECAC, as she was also being pursued by much larger clubs, but ultimately chose to play for her hometown team. She is known for pinpoint crosses, and not being much use in defense, something she can hopefully improve upon going forward.
Club: Megabrantid SC
Takala is MSC's other young midfield standout, and the other 22-year-old midfielder on the roster. Takala's clutch performances were a huge factor in MSC's run to the Confederacy Cup final. He is here for the same reason as Stolp. As a potential midfield centerpiece of the future, this will be an important tournament for showing management what he can do.
Forwards:
Club: Lublova Reds FC
Vladcik has done everything to justify the faith put in him by both club and country at a very young age. His latest test will be to adapt to a shift in position. While Lopal Daror did employ Vladcik as a winger with free reign to ranger forward, Donnell seems ready to go one further than that, and has been lining the youngster up as a left forward. The transition was fairly seamless at the Independents' Cup, so we should expect to see Vladcik lining up at left forward for the foreseeable future.
Club: Olympic Thessia (MYT)
Jzvanic is not the tower of strength that Ajao is, but is more active as a striker. While Ajao tends to remain inside acting as a target man, Jzvanic will readily drop back or slide out to the side in order to give the ball carrier a shorter passing option. When playing as a second forward, he tends to slot in slightly underneath the other striker, and play more as a false 9 than a striker. Over the course of last year's international matches, he took firm hold of the starting striker role, though if Ajao should be subbed on for one of the wing forwards, Jzvanic will most likely slide over to allow the big man to occupy the center.
Club: Unioneers (EUR)
With strength and wiles beyond his years, Ajao spearheaded one of League 1's highest scoring attacks at Chalesm. He has struggled, however, to consistently bring that type of play at the international level. Aside from the obvious aerial threat he poses due to his size, he usually has a knack for playing flicks and otherwise distributing the ball to players making late runs. Undersized center backs will have difficulty marking him, but a defender who can negate him in the air will be able to frustrate him all day. His club elected to sell him during the recent window, as they are in dire need of a complete rebuild, particularly in defense, and he will be lacing them up for Unioneers.
Club: Jaglan Royals
Gerstlauer is a wild card. She signed a contract with Royals mainly on the strength of her play in an Algolian women's semi-profesional league, where she was by far the dominant attacker. More controversial is the assertion that Royals were also swayed by her massive social media following, where her videos of trick shots, juggling and dribbling moves have attracted millions of views and over 100,000 subscribers. Supporters are sharply divided over what some see as a solid signing to address Jaglan's anemic attack, and others decry as a publicity stunt. Gerstlauer's inclusion in the national team pool would seem to tip the scales toward the former, but we'll have to wait and see.
Club: Algolia AC
Rebljeten was part of an infusion of new talent for the Suntigers a year ago, and was very effective playing as a false nine behind Nepharan striker Hansi Westerlow. He has proven to be an excellent distributor of the ball, though he is sometimes prone to hopeful passes forward when it would be more prudent to drop the ball and reset the attack.
Club: Damogran FC
Gryspos has flown somewhat under the radar on the fringes of the national team pool until recently, when his club form for Damogran has elevated him somewhat. Gryspos is more a technician than a target man, and Damogran's vastly improved possession numbers have allowed him to show his quality a bit more.
THE SQUAD
Image
Marcus WASHINGTON
Age: 29
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Ousevale Borough
Washington's cat-like reflexes are the stuff of legend. Don't let the fact he's only 5'11” fool you.
Image
Thomas SCOTT
Age: 28
Position: Right-back
Club: Emberton Reds
More of a wing-back than a full back. What he lacks in pure speed is made up for in intelligence.
Image
Christopher JOEL
Age: 27
Position: Left-back
Club: Mercia Bromham
Built like a sprinter, and able to move the ball at speed. Doesn't shy away from the tackle, either.
Image
Gareth BRANNAN
CAPTAIN
Age: 26
Position: Centre-back
Club: Ashton Olympic
Built like a boulder. Not the fastest in the world, but when he challenges for the ball, you'll know about it.
Image
Matthew GRAY
Age: 28
Position: Centre-back
Club: Emberton Reds
Tall and rangy, Gray complement's Brannan's strength with wiry speed. Perm would be reminiscent of Colin Ulvæus if it wasn't the wrong colour.
Image
Roberto JULIANO
Age: 30
Position: Central midfield
Club: Avidia United
A true midfield general, can pick out the pass and decent in the tackle.
Image
Jake HANSEN
Age: 23
Position: Left midfield
Club: Royal Emberton
Elder of the Hansen twins, by a whole seven minutes.
Image
Joe HANSEN
Age: 23
Position: Right midfield
Club: Royal Emberton
Younger of the Hansen twins, by a whole seven minutes.
Image
Chris NAISMITH
Age: 29
Position: Forward
Club: Ousevale Borough
He's been called the next Alex Sampson; luckily for him, the existing one is helping him hone his skills.
Image
Joshua COQUELIN
Age: 24
Position: Forward
Club: Casuals Osteria
Providing the bullets for The Cock? The Coq, natch.
Image
Selaphiel KENNEDY
Age: 19
Position: Forward
Club: Stanton Town
The Kennedy dynasty continues as young Selly follows in the footsteps of Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel in breaking into the national team. Why this lot are still all loyal to the Dockers is anyone's guess, mind.
Image
Murray SCHWARZKOPF
Age: 26
Position: Central midfield
Club: Stanton Town
The crew cut belies this no-nonsense midfielder's mindset.
Image
Pablo IBANEZ
Age: 25
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Avidia City
No relation. Thankfully.
Image
Malcolm AITKEN
Age: 30
Position: Right midfield
Club: Caledon Simpson
Diminutive but tricky winger.
Image
Will VASSER
Age: 28
Position: Right-back
Club: Casuals Osteria
Agile if not the fastest. Likes to jockey and prevent rather than commit to the tackle.
Image
Freddie HAMES
Age: 29
Position: Central midfield
Club: Mercia Bromham
At ease in the middle of the park or just behind the forwards.
Image
Callum QUIROGA
Age: 24
Position: Forward
Club: Avidia United
Promising talent; expect him to make waves off the bench.
Image
Callum SCOTLAND
Age: 20
Position: Forward
Club: Ousevale Borough
With one descendant of a famous Krytie striker, why not another? Naismith's club team-mate and a opportunistic striker, with a lineage going up to the great Darren Scotland.
Image
Ellis DUCAINE-PETIT
Age: 27
Position: Centre-back
Club: Caversham
Solid centre-back, ridiculous name.
Image
Miguel TORRES
Age: 27
Position: Centre-back
Club: Avidia United
Stocky and solid in the tackle. Suffers a bit with the aerial game though.
Image
John BURTON
Age: 27
Position: Left midfield
Club: Leston Town
A lover of the early cross to the far stick.
Image
Anthony BODZA
Age: 23
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Dereapolis City
Has burst on the scene in no time flat. Will relish a chance if Washington falters.
Image
Hywel AP HYWEL
Age: 21
Position: Left-back
Club: New Cefn Albion
Young intelligent defender, a biggish fish in a small pond. Suffers from having unimaginative parents, á la Mitchell Mitchell.
LIKELY STARTERS
1. Washington
2. Scott – 4. Brannan (c) – 5. Gray – 3. Joel
8. Joe Hansen – 6. Juliano – 7. Jake Hansen
Home/Away Kits
Image
These kits were made courtesy of Red Blackiland
The Polkopian kits that are to be used for the upcoming Cup of Harmony matches are made by Meski Sports who are no longer actively supplying kits, however head coach Zdeslav Tedesco expressed his desire to have his team wear the same kits used by the Polkopian team during the 74th World Cup in San José Guayabal and Valladares, as well as the most recent World Cup. Tradition is well-engrained in Polkopian culture and Tedesco doesn't shy away from it. In fact, he embraces the kit and cites it as some of the reason why the squad performed so well in recent tournaments.
