I guess. Getting back to elections I am starting to get very worried about Florida. I don't get why the Governor's race is so close. There is no comparison between the candidates. What's your take? Do you think Gillum will win? I trust your predictions.

Well, it's close because Florida's a very divided state politically speaking. As for who'll win, it'll be Gillum. When even Republican pollsters have him 2-3 points ahead, he's probably got it. Not to mention a major red stronghold(Panama City area) will suffer from depressed turnout due to the hurricane a few weeks ago.

Wonder what the best solution is, then.

Expensive housing is usually the result of a housing shortage. There's more demand than the actual amount of housing, so people pay more for it. Any government action taken to address this should try to increase the amount of housing, thus meeting the demand and lowering the price for consumers (this is why rent controls are so terrible, because creating price ceilings increases shortages). In California's case, the government should subsidize the housing market in some way. They could give tax breaks or subsidize companies to make housing developments. The government could also directly make its own public housing, but hopefully not in the form of the dystopian Projects made in the 20th century. All of this would of course be a sizable tax burden, but providing housing or making it easier to obtain housing is one of the more important things a state can do.

At least, that's my take on it.

I watched the ad on Twitter and I see no racism. First of all Mexicans aren't a race. Second of all the issue is legitimate. Third of all how can facts be racist?

He's not saying all mestizos are inferior or murderers. He's literally showing a video of Democrats letting in (or wanting to let in) people who admit by themselves they are murderers. How many more would Democrats like to let in?

First of all, this ad uses utterly ridiculous doublethink, claiming the man who killed those cops was illegal but also that was he "let in" by Democrats? Which one is it? If he was here illegally, then no one "let him in", if he was "let in" then he would have had legal status.

The claim that Democrats let him in is also ridiculous. Which fucking Democrats? Congressional ones? Nope. The Dems in California? Nope. The Dems in the city? Nope. Politicians don't let anyone come in or keep anyone out. That's on border patrol and the courts. Such a claim would be like saying that Republicans let al-Queda in in 2001, as if there was someone saying "yes, I am letting you through, I'm giving you permission to be here."

The caravan of Honduran refugees has nothing to do with that guy, and the one guy who supposedly said he was seeking a pardon for attempted murder, there is absolutely no context to this situation at all.

This ad appeals to the lowest common denominator. It's only effective on people who don't think about it.

The population is rising not declining.

The poverty threshold is a national statistic, and it doesn't apply evenly in every state. A person in Indiana just above the poverty line is going to have a better life than a person in California just above the poverty line, since the cost of living is very different. When factoring in what your income can actually buy, California has the highest poverty rate in the nation.

Only using the supplement poverty measure which is total crap. It uses medical costs which can't be measured evenly from person to person.
