[The Cross Islands]

An introduction to football in the People's Republic of the Cross Islands
The People's Republic of the Cross Islands is a socialist unitary state, population 225 thousand, comprised of seven individual islands. They are Keysburg Island; which also serves as the capital; Boneshead Island; St. Matthew Island; Gracias a Dios Island; Abbey Island; North Birkdale Island; and South Birkdale Island. The latter three islands also form an atoll, known as Southport Atoll.

There are three levels of football in the Cross Islands, based around the islands. The top tier is semi-professional, with eight clubs – one on every island except for Keysburg, which has two – funded or run by each island's local government. Players are paid to train and play, but often have second jobs. Players may not move between teams in the top flight except for loans, or if their contract has ended.

There are two groups of four teams each in the top flight, known as the Inter-Island League. Group A always contains both Keysburg clubs, North Keysburg United and Keysburgo del Sur, while Group B always contains the three teams from Southport Atoll. At the end of each season, the other team in Group B moves to Group A, while the lower-ranked of the two non-Keysburg teams in Group A moves to Group B. Teams play 34 league games per season: six against teams from their own group and four against teams from the other group. At the end of each season, the two group winners play-off for the League title. The runner-up and next two best teams by record qualify for the Globe Cup.

The second tier of football, the Liga de las Profesiones, is amateur. Teams are formed based on players' professions on the islands, such as Police, Miners, or students at the University. Players may be dual-registered by a team in both the top flight and the second tier. Players may move teams at any time, but only if their profession has changed. There are 10 teams, who play four time against each other for 36 games per season. There is no promotion to the top flight. The top three teams qualify for the Series B Champions' Cup.

The third tier is the youth level, officially the under-21 age group in the islands. The cutoff date is taken to be the first matchday of the season. There are just six teams at this level: the three islands on Southport Atoll field a single joint under-21 squad. Players may be dual-registered by a team in both the second and third tiers. Players may not be called up to teams' senior squads until the end of both seasons. In the case of the Southport Atoll youth team, players are assigned to their island of residence, and may not be called up by the other two islands.

In all league competitions, the first tiebreaker is head-to-head, followed by goal difference, games won, and goals scored.

There is a cup competition on the islands, known as the Campeonato Nacional del Presidente del Estado, or the State Chairman's National Championship. All 24 teams take part in it, and players who are dual-registered may play for both their teams, except in the case where those teams are drawn to face each other in which case the player will be ineligible for the round. The Qualifying Round involves the ten occupational teams and six youth sides. The Challenge Round sees the introduction of the eight semi-professional teams. These first two rounds are played on a home-and-away basis, with away goals, extra time, and penalties if necessary.

The quarter-finals are played as a best-of-three series, with extra time and penalties if necessary; the semi-finals are best-of-five. However, the State Chairman's Championship match is a one-off final, played at the Keysburg Arena, home to North Keysburg United and the largest stadium on the islands with a capacity of 25,000.

[The Quagpire]

The Quaglands is a region inhabited by Pokemon, featuring the dominant force of the Quagpire and several semi-autonomous states that swear fealty.
Those states share common ground in a unified soccer league, where past differences can be put aside (or bitterly brought back up) on the field of sport.
While there's great biodiversity in the region, only a handful of species are capable of playing soccer at a high level. They can be found in the accompanying figure.

Our preview will begin with the teams that call the Quagpire itself home, in all its rainy, marshy glory.

Quaggen | Shares a name with the capital of the Quaglands and the only incorporated city in Quag-administered territory.
As such they benefit from funding most other teams can only dream of, both from wealthy benefactors and an enormous pool to draw a fanbase from.
Leveraging those funds hasn't always been successful, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Bayou | You ever tried playing soccer in a swamp? It's difficult.
Bayou makes it feel like that, but all the time.
They're the only team that staunchly remains staffed only by Quags; partly because of their dedication to that playstyle,
party because of the rigors of their home pitch, partly because of xenopohbia.

Mudflats | The strongest personification of the laid-back attitude that has come to be the trademark of the modern Quag.
Which is to say, there's a notable lack of effort compared to their competition.
But hey, they're having fun, and that's what matters.

Mantyke Bay | This hopping vacation spot has a level of energy not seen elsewhere
in the Quagpire, and that shines through their Blaziken-powered style of attacking soccer.
It helps that their revenues pull the best Blaziken players away from Sootopolis' academy.

Next comes the teams of Lumineum, whose territory stretches from just below the ocean's surface to the edge of the dark depths.
While the Lumineon themselves cannot play, their ingenious engineers have devised floating "stadiums",
buoyed in such a way to allow both seated spectators and those swimming just outside to follow the action.

City of Light | The star atop the glamorous submerged city, CoL serves an interesting dual purpose.
They represents both its namesake and its deep neighbor, Drowned Crag (who simply cannot host "shallow" species).
This is done through their enigmantic Armaldo keeper and Golisopod striker.

Lumineers | A motley journeying troupe financed by the Lumineon royalty,
the Lumineers strive to provide an entertaining show alongside some competent football.
Result tend to vary.

Then comes mighty Corphica, noted for its exquisite beaches and relative ease of access as a port of call to outsiders.

Shelldock | The metropolitan trade capital of the Quaglands fields a suitable metropolitan team, featuring a league-high five different species.
They're also the most cutting-edge, using their broad base of experiences and even some tactics lifted from the mythical "outside world".
Currently employs a 4-4-2.

Blasting Beach | Commonly considered the discount Mantyke Bay, both in scenery and in soccer.
They bring the boom boom just as well, but reclusive crawdaunts and discerning quags--most of the quality defenders available--aren't biting.
So, it's a bit of a sieve at that back. But hey, goals!

Daunt's Den | It's always a rough road trip down the dank Corphican caves,
and that's even before you risk getting your legs broken by unscrupulous crawdaunt defenders.
Mostly they're just lashing out because they can't score for shit.

Last, and arguably least, comes the still-torn Cinder Barrens.
While outright conflict has been left in decades past, tensions between the blaziken and grovyle still run high.
The jury is still out on whether soccer rivalries are helping or hurting.

Sootopolis | Undoubtably owns the best academy system in the Quaglands--and while that's not saying much, it's still pretty good.
Unfortunately, the team has a difficult time holding onto their brightest talents, both for want of pay and for want of living anywhere else other than Cinder Grove.
The sales still make them a pretty poké that's hard to find elsewhere in the Grove, which at least keeps them competitive.

Weeping Willow | The only Grovyle-run team in the league, and thus the poorest.
But they have a creative scrappiness that sets them apart and has started attracting fans from the other non-Quag regions.
The tide may finally be turning in their favor?

Ashmark | Both the team and the city have always lived in Sootopolis' shadow,
mired in the Grove's historic struggles that feels like a choker on any developmental effort they try to put forward.
Until they find a way to make themselves unique, it's unlikely they'll attract talent of any sort.

The Tropical Trophy is a seasonal competition between the Vilitan Stellar Division Champions and Vilitan Cup Champions. There has been some controversy as to whether it is a "Season Ending" event or a "Season beginning" event, though it has tended to be closer to the start of the new season, then the end of the previous one.

For this seasons Tropical Trophy, the defending Vilitan Cup Champions (Jungle Strike FC) faced off against the defending Vilitan Stellar Division Champions (Lonngeylin Coast).

Starting in Season 57, Vilitan/Turorian Dual National referee Nuliko Meteorik officiated the Tropical Trophy from a press box at the Tivali Ring Stadium with a suite of action cameras and video reviews to be used in competition to a degree never before seen. The Football Association of Vilita is based at the Tivali-Ring Stadium in the capital city of Alikki-Corra, Vilita and many National Team training sessions take place on the grounds of the Tivali Ring. The Football Association regularly schedule matches at arenas throughout Vilita, especially bigger matches as many of the stadiums that host Stellar Division and UICA competition matches have expanded far beyond the capacity of the National Stadium at Tivali Ring, which is used only for the National Team, and, for the Vilitan Cup Final and Tropical Trophy matchup. In addition to its World Cup matches, 'The Ring' hosted the 40th UICA Series 'B' Champions Cup Final. The stadium was constructed as part of the Vilitan bid to host the World Cup 14 Cup of Harmony as a replacement to the former National Stadium in Lopinka that was destroyed during a regional conflict.

**First Season in Stellar Division

THROUGH MID-SEASON:

With the government of Schottia interfering and shutting down the Schottia National Team, many young Schottian prospects in the Vilitan League including Mliona-Lpaka's teenage duo goalkeeper Ed Lorrey and defender Bonnie McGillivray faced an uncertain sporting future. Makosile United made a splash in the offseason signing Banijan midfielder Okonkwo Okparro from Bunyoro RSC in an attempt to finally secure promotion back to the Stellar Division. Tropicorp Lower League side turned heads with their signing of Raiden Kojima from Project Patriot Snake Zanzibar, Kojima rumored to have been trained as a Hinojdean Assassin. Other new additions included Cosumarite prospect Samothias Odwyk who made the switch from Real Azuris to Eastal Lunar, Vanorian Center Back Eivind Strømmen who also joined Eastal Lunar, doing so from the Dwile Warriors in Apox, and The Filindostan defender Kartio Weici who joined Tivali City from Perokojak kota Jakulta.

The defending Champion Lonngeylin Coast would put themseleves in a hole on the opening matchday being held at home by Turoki United 1-1 as they looked to become the first three-time repeat Stellar Division champions since cross-town rivals Jungle Strike FC accomplished it from Seasons 45-47. Things would continue slow for the defending champions when they travelled to Cednia Park and were held after a fine display from Turori National Team goalkeeper Wiyauw An'maude as Cedniavella took home their first win since earning promotion 3-2 over Lonngeylin Coast.

A struggling Eastal Lunar side took a big step towards righting the ship and climbing back up the table on Matchday 10 with a 3-0 thrashing of Relegation threatened Lonngeylin City thanks to goals from Lunar Shadow, Samothias Odwyk and Nindethana Nindethana who was also the star of the match.

After building on their lead from the Season's halfway point, the Yeaddin Owls went into the Turoki Community Complex on Matchday 16 with a 3 point advantage over the Tide in a true top of the table clash with major championship implications. If the Owls could go into Turoki City and defeat the Tide, the would leave the Complex with a six point lead atop the table as they searched for their first Stellar Division Title of the modern era. If the Tide could use the home fans to will them to victory then the two teams would leave the day tied on points atop the table. The Tide would start strong taking a 2-0 lead into half time after Vilita National Team midfielder Cavuna Aquafek converted from the penalty spot late in the first half after a foul from the Owls young defensive starlet Rojara Tiones. The Owls would pull a goal back in the second half through Turorian Daliora Toru'u but it was not enough to get them back in the match and Poloax Torerun ensured the victory for the Tide with a late goal.

The prime time result would even things up atop the table which looked a perfect mix of the modern stars and the names of yesteryear with the Turoki Tide and Lonngeylin Coast representing the modern era in 1st and 3rd, Jungle Strike FC representing the all-time greats in 4th and the Yeaddin Owls and Marine Coast United representing the Stellar Divisions history, two sides that combined to win fifteen of the first sixteen Stellar Division championships but have not won a single title since sitting 2nd and 5th in the table.

Heading into the final stretch there were many interesting storylines brewing in the table. With a 1-0 victory at home Lonngeylin Coast had pulled within one point of the Turoki Tide as they searched for their third consecutive Stellar Division title. Eastal Lunar had strung together a series of wins to climb out of the mid-table mess and challenge the Yeaddin Owls, Marine Coast United and Jungle Strike FC in the battle for third and the final guaranteed UICA Champions Cup place. Just behind them the four Turorian teams were separated by just four points in the battle for the guaranteed Turorian slot in the UICA Champions Cup.

Turoki United's 33 season stay in the Stellar Division which included 3 titles and many top-half finishes finally came to a crashing end as the Silvers lost all capability to score goals and had won just one of their first 22 matches, having matches th clubs all time record for defeats in a season at any level with still four games left to play.

The Turoki Tide dropped points on the road at Cedniavella on Matchday 23 giving the field a chance to close in but the Yeaddin owls and Marine Coast United played a classico to a goalless draw keeping the duo at arms length from making a run at the title.

The Turoki Tide eliminated all but the defending champions on Matchday 24 with a convincing 3-1 victory over Rammsissil at the Turoki Community Complex but had room for a mistake as Lonneylin Coast were held themselves to a 2-2 draw at the Lonngeylin Coliseum by cross-town rivals Jungle Strike FC. Perhaps the most consequential match of the day, however, took place at the Cednia Beach Center where the Coconuts blasted a pair of goals past Turori National Team netminder Wiyauw An'maude to secure a 2-1 victory and move Cednia Beach level with Mliona-Lpaka atop the three Turorian clubs. In Sile, Marine Coast United got a goal from Fishtii Blikala to secure three point over Colonial Sile to move the Mariners level with the Yeaddin Owls for 3rd place and the final guaranteed spot in the UICA Champions Cup.

Longeylin City were confirmed for the drop on Matchday 24 being unable to catch 12th place Colonial Sile while 9 points back with just two games to play.

The Top Amongst the Top 5 contenders most took care of business on the penultimate matchday with the Turoki Tide giving themselves the best shot at the title with a 2-0 victory over a resurgent Eastal Lunar, quashing the Astronauts aspirations of a Top 5 finish and forcing Lonngeylin Coast to keep pace. Goals from Methuselah Tregajorran and Sipke Tarala allowed Lonngeylin Coast to do just that setting up a grand stand finish on the final matchday with Lonngeylin Coast one point behind the Tide with the title on the line.

While the top two teams would avoid each other on the final matchday, their opponents couldn't get much more difficult as the Turoki Tide were at home to 4th place Marine Coast United while Lonngeylin Coast, needing a win and for the Tide to drop points, would be traveling to the Lirai Asku Castle to play 3rd place Yeaddin Owls who would be fighting to defend their place in the UICA Champions Cup from Marine Coast United and Jungle Strike FC.

Sipke Tarala netted their fourteenth goal of the season for Lonngeylin Coast to put them temporarily atop the table but the Turoki Tide would fight back in their match against Marine Coast United scoring just before half time to re-take the lead in the table. Cavuna Aquafek had a chance to double the Tide's lead on the hour mark but the excitement hit a fever pitch as the normally reliable midfielder missed from the penalty spot, giving Lonngeylin Coast extra hope. In the end, however, both matches would end 1-0 in favor of the championship chasing side giving the Title to the Turoki Tide by one point, re-taking the title from the side that had stolen it from them two seasons prior.

Incredibly, all of the results on the final matchday went entirely to form and no places changed hand in the final table with the Yeaddin Owls securing a return to the UICA Champions Cup with their 3rd place finish in the table. While they had begun the second half in first place, the top 3 finish was the Owls first in over 30 seasons.

At the halfway point of the Declasse Season the table had been dominated by the two teams that had been relegated from the Stellar Division one season prior: Inland Peaks FC and Arcticala Inlet. The former top-flight duo had built a four point cushion with Inland Peaks in particularly good form despite three defeats, having scored nearly double the goals that any other Declasse team had talled up to the seasons mid-way point. In the promotion race, the nearest challenger was Makosile at six points back while the Terrarokka Spirit were putting together a consistent season with just one defeat in the opening thirteen games to find themselves 8 points behind the promotion cut line.

At the other end of the table, Jlinal Cove were at risk of a first ever Vilitan League relegation expulsion as they hovered just clear of the Crosaibi Locals in the relegation zone on goal differential. With just one win in thirteen matches Sporta Eelandii propped up the midway table.

Willing to try anything to avoid the drop, Sporta Eelandii made headlines signing a former super soldier of the Hinodejin Empire's Project Jack the Ripper, the man-machine hybrid Raiden Kojima from the Crosaibi Rovers in the Tropicorp Lower League.

Atop the table, the two leaders Arcticala Inlet and Inland Peaks met on Matchday 21 with a true six point swing on the cards. In the end, however, the top goalscoring team and the best defense in the league cancelled each other out in a goalless draw that maintained the status quo and allowed the pack to pull within four points.

That would be as close as the field would get, however, as Arcticala Inlet and Inland Peaks ensured that their stays outside the top flight would be brief, bouncing straight back up with fourteen wins a pieces. Inland Peaks led the league in goals scored while Arcticala Inlet posted the best defensive record. At the other end of the table there was a battle to see who would join Sporta Eelandii in the Tropicorp Lower League next season with Jlinal Cove, the winningest all time club in the Declasse Division staring down the barrel of the Tropicorp Lower League a full three points back with just one game to play. Luckily for Jlinal Cove the one match was against a team, Laiotia AFC, that was exactly three points ahead of them in the table. Factoring goal differential the Jlinal side knew that a victory would be enough to allow them to overtake Laiotia. It was a tense match at the Jlinal Cove Complex but the home side eventually got the goal they needed for a 1-0 victory and another season of safety, avoiding a first ever season outside the Vilitan League for at least one more cycle.

The two Semi-Final pairings offered a lot with one of the two promoted sides from the Vilitan Stellar Division facing off against high flying Yeaddin Owls looking for their first silverware of the modern era. The first leg took place at the Lirai Asku Castle in Yeaddin and the two sides, knowing how big a spot in the Cup Final would be to their franchises, played out a nervous 0-0 draw in the first leg. Inland Peaks continued playing with nerves in the second leg but the Yeaddin Owls were playing with urgency as they saw the Stellar Division starting to slip away from them after leading at the halfway point, and would put together a big performance with a pair of goals each from Tenziki Kulakao and Jung-bok Tarak to send the Yeaddin Owls through to their second consecutive Vilitan Cup final.

The second Semi-Final was even better on paper with the top two teams in the Stellar Division squaring off for a place in the Vilitan Cup Final. Both teams would take advantage of their home field advantage winning 2-0 in front of their supporters and sending the fixture into extra time at the Turoki Community Complex in the second leg. In the end, ten rounds of penalties wer needed with the goalkeepers on deck before finally the Turoki Tide's last field shooter blasted a shot wide of Cilamara Issah's goal and the Fishermen were through 9-8 on penalty kicks.

Vilitan Cup Final:

The two starting goalkeepers for the Vilita National Team, soon to be crowned champions of World Cup 81, met on the pitch for their final match before heading off to Banija and the Free Republics for their memorable World Cup campaign. The experienced veteran and mentor, Cilamarah Issah, who had been a leader who helped bring Lonngeylin Coast to the top of the Vilitan footballing pyramid, led their team out of the tunnel along side the mentee, Vilita's star goalkeeper looking to do the same for the Yeaddin Owls, Mako Canopii.

The Owls were still searching for their first silverware in the lifetime of most of its players while Lonngeylin Coast were trying to end the season on a high note after missing out on the Stellar Division title by a single point on the final matchday.

The Tivali Ring Stadium was packed to the brim hoping to see a better match then one season prior when a different Lonngeylin based club, Jungle Strike FC, defeated the Yeaddin Owls on penalty kicks after a 120 minutes of scoreless play. The fans would get what they sought - goals from open play, when the Nepharim attacker Methuselah Tregajorran scored just three minutes into the match. It looked as if that would be the only goal of the half until Inamari Altariiz, the veteran Turorian striker who would lead the Turorian National Team to the World Cup Semi-Finals for the first time, also made an impact domestically doubling Lonngeylin Coast's lead at the stroke of half time.

The Yeaddin Owls would not go down without a fight pulling a goal back on the hour mark and pressuring Cilamara Issah's goal throughout the second half of play but Issah would stand tall and in the end, the Owls would have to wait yet another year for a chance to lift Silverware as the full time whistle blew and Lonngeylin Coast had won 2-1 to claim their second ever Vilitan Cup title.

One of the most highly anticipated Tropicorp Lower League matches took place on the final matchday of the qualification table season when Sokattack Mliona hosted the Cednia Rovers with Cednia holding on to the fourth and final place in the table which would have advanced them to the Tropicorp Cup. Sokattack Mliona had other ideas however and would win convincingly 3-0 over their Turorian foes to leap into the Top 4 and qualify for the Tropicorp Cup.

FC Almintora topped the table with twenty wins while Kiiarana City led by Vilitan goalkeeper Vernasa Sanamun finished second in the table for the second consecutive season. The way the draw played out for the Tropicorp Cup it was guaranteed that exactly one Vilitan Team and exactly one Turorian team would advance to the Tropicorp Cup Final and guaranteed Promotion to the Declasse Division for Season 59.

Kiiarana City claimed just the third piece of hardware in their history with a Tropicorp Cup victory over FC Almintora. The two sides who were the class of the Tropicorp Lower League Season would dispatch of their national opposition in the Qualification Round to advance to the Final and secure a place in the Declasse Division for Season 59. The lone meeting between the two teams during the League Season ended in a goalless draw. The focus in the final was on the matchup between Turori's Under-21 prospect striker Nua'oma Aikiki playing for FC Almintora and Vernasa Sanamun, the Kiiarana City goalkeeper serving as third choice for the Vilitan National Team.

At the end of the day, it was Sanamun who kept a clean sheet and lifted the Tropicorp Cup at the end of the match.

History and Tenants :: Tropicorp Park is home to the Tropicorp Cup, the four team, 2 day grand-finale of the Tropicorp Lower League. The competition has served as an outstanding warmup to test the hospitality available at Tropicorp Park, and was critical in the build up to the decision to allow the finals of the Eagle's Cup V competition to take place in Tropicorp, the first major international competition of any kind to be held in Tropicoast. Tropicorp FC, members of the Vilitan Declasse, also play their home matches at the park.

Tropicorp Park hosted the 54th AOCAF Final that saw Cosumar break through with a first ever regional title over Eshan. The stadium was also the final site for the AOCL XXIII contested between Mâ Âlâmëómë of Farfadillis and Blades ex Magnaeus of Mertagne with the Farf side being victorious on Penalty Kicks; and for AOCL XVII which saw Jungle Strike FC defeat Fligsive FC 3-0.

Tropicorp officials are continuously looking to expand the portfolio of events held at the Park and feels it is ready to add a UICA competition to its repetoire. Tropicorp officials are not being complacent, however, and continue to take advantage of the opportunities to showcase their hospitality including branching beyond Footsport. The first ever Tropicorp Bowl was recently contested on the gridiron with Raynor University defeating the university of Iqaluit 27-14.

Location :: Cocoabo Park Arena is located at Cocoabo Park in the Cocoabo Forest. The Cocoabo Forest is a Cocoabo Preserve built on Calanian lands formerly held in trust by the Atlantian Oceania Regional Defense Organization (AORDO). More information on the Cocoabo Forest and the developments at Cocoabo Park can be found here.

Stadium History :: Cocoabo Park Arena was created at Cocoabo Park to develop Cocoabo for the Cocoabo Enrichment & Enhancement Program (CEEP) as well as to attract future sporting events to the Tropicorp-CPS collaborative education, enrichment and entertainment destination on the shores of the Cocoabo Forest. Construction of the Arena was completed with temporary grandstands for the Eagle's Cup VI final in order to test the arena's viability to host future events.

The Eagle's Cup VI final at Cocoabo Park Arena was open to the public with any admission to the Cocoabo Park. In addition to the Eagle's Cup final, visitors were be able to learn about the Cocoabo, ongoing Preservation efforts at the Cocoabo Forest and see Cocoabo in their re-constructed natural habitat. The success of this event proved the viability of the arena both as a sporting venue and destination location for visitors. Cocoabo Park Arena also served as a primary venue during the 54th AOCAF competition.

The first International Club Final held at the Cocoabo Park Arena was the 66th UICA Globe Cup Final which saw the Turoki Tide defeat Cazadores Cathair 2-1.

Primary Tenants :: Cocoabo Park Arena has no permanent club tenants. Other uses for Cocoabo Park Arena may include events and shows for Park visitors included displays by trained and skilled Cocoabo as well as one-off international caliber sporting events. The Cocoabo Forest team in the Tropicorp Lower Leagues plays at nearby training fields due to low projected attendance and the opportunity cost of hosting taking the arena away when it can be used for Cocoabo Demonstrations in association with Park Attendees.

Silly season has come to Blaneuan football as the Cup of Harmony campaign came stuttering to a premature end, leaving the citizens of Blaneu without any football to spectate on. With the international transfer window still shut and nothing to watch instead baseless speculation and wild plans from over-eager club presidents have abounded.

The big news so far this cycle has to be Defi Rovers, much as it has been ever since it became apparent they were heading for insolvency. Their transfer listings have been going up rabidly as the board seems set to sell anything not tied down in order to start the re-building of the club. First out of the door are Leslie Driscoll and Luke Smith, both gone as free agents in order to cut the wage bill. Leslie Driscoll has a poor season for Defi, but it remains surprising that he isn't being sold, rumor has it that it may be an attempt to prevent another Blaneuan club snapping him up in the process. Meanwhile, Luke Smith is less surprising, with only five goals over the last season he hardly lit up the stage given the opportunity. Soon to follow them are Dyfed Elron, Aaron Starkey, Euan Fitzstephens and Gethin Powell. These four are not only four of Defi's very best, but they're also some of the best Blaneu has to offer as well. Their transfer fees alone should clear Defi's debt.

More interestingly for Defi is who will be coming through to replace them, as after a landmark court ruling last month Defi will be able to recruit female footballers into their squad. Currently Defi are holding open trials and are rumored to be close to making offers to 5 female footballers. This would be a first for the Blaneuan league and many other clubs seem to be waiting to see how this move works out for Defi, although only Old Regisonians have put out a statement on the subject, where they confirmed that they were reviewing whether to allow former female students to join their side.

Elsewhere and those sides benefiting from prize money and UICA related TV deals look set to go out and splash. Bedha English, the surprise package of last season, have been linked with a loan move involving an older foreign player play-maker, although the deal remains, for now, shrouded in mystery. They've also been linked with a potential move for Portside forward Harry Norbitt and a potential lunge for East Cape's Rhodri Apnest, although it isn't yet certain whether their parent clubs are willing to sell.

Of the other big sides West Cape Wanderers obviously stand out as those ready to whack out the wallet. Their squad was strong enough to walk over most sides last season, but they will certainly be on the look out for new signings as two of their key players, Ojo Navarro and Lucas Sparks, seek greener pastures abroad. Navarro is the more obvious loss, 5 goals clear as top scorer in the league last season and the national sides star man, West Cape will search far and wide t find a winger to fill his shoes. Sparks is a less obvious loss, but his defensive solidity and intelligence going forward was brilliant last year, if un-show-y. As yet it isn't obvious that they've lined up anyone.

Finally, Bay Road FC have signaled their ambition to bring in a new play-maker. As a side they had an odd season, their front-line was absolutely stuffed with talent, however they scored the third fewest number of goals in the league, whilst maintaining the best defensive record. Going forward they may well be losing their best defensive talent in James Jones, meaning they will have to re-focus on their attack, making the addition of a playmaker vital to their chances going forward.
