There are many people in this game who are trying to use the Latin language on their nation page, but a group of Latin words does not make a Latin sentence. Since grammatical errors in Latin on the internet abound, I thought it would be useful to correct mistakes here if I could.

Hic scribere licet (anglice et/aut latine) quam sententiam in pagina civitatis velis. Quidquid mihi des pro latinitate diligenter corrigam.

Here you may write (in English and/or in Latin) what motto you would like on your nation page. I will do my best to edit whatever you give me for good Latin style.

Libertas, Arbitrium, Felicitas
(This is a hard one because of the poverty of Latin vocabulary - normally the Romans would have used libertas for independence in the political sense, but libertas is also the most common word for freedom. I've used arbitrium as freedom here - it carries with it connotations of freedom of choice, although its primary meaning has more to do with judgment or decision.)

(Assuming you're addressing someone in the plural, and that it means "submit to" rather than just "bend." )

I'm going to argue here that capto should just take the accusative, and the 'for' part is a casualty of the translation into English rather than a dative of... er... advantage? So,

I'm a graduate instructor teaching Latin I and II - so this is good practice and review over the summer. (And makes that first mistake pretty embarrassing... is it too late to pretend I did it on purpose?)

Funny you should mention that... just before the first class I ever taught, I found out that one of the NSers I'd been chatting with on IRC for a couple months was going to be my student. Within a matter of 20 minutes, we went from knowing nothing about each other in RL to finding out we lived in the same state, in the same town, went to the same university, were part of the same general program... and that sure enough, I was teaching his class starting the following week. That was a fun first day of the semester, let me tell you...

Sorry for the question, but couldn't you use the Hortativ (don't know if it's the same name in English) to express the "shall" a bit better? I'm just a student myself and am currently preparing for a test, so I thought I should ask this.

"Shall" in this instance is just the future tense. The hortative/hortatory subjunctive would be translated, "Let us not rest" and would use a ne for the negative.
