The Electoral College does work for its intended purpose, and it does work overall. The UNHRC doesn't really... do anything? Except for sending more strongly-worded letters to Israel, which isn't really helping anyone nor accomplishing anything.
Other parts of the UN at least do things, even if they don't do them very well.
It does function.function: fulfill the purpose or task of (a specified thing)
And what intended task would that be, and how is it -actually- fulfilling that? As in not just "well it feels like it's working because it's doing what I want".

To achieve a compromise between state-based and population-based government. The House of Representatives is based on population, while the Senate is based off of statehood itself. The EC was intended as a compromise between these two concepts, while being (mostly) independent from the Legislature itself. This is, after all, why the electors assigned to each state are their number of Representatives in the House plus two for their two senators, flooring the number of electors a state can have at three, which means every state has at least a little bit of importance in the election.

To be fair, the House does a crap job of representing the population. Afaik, dems need to win the House vote by 6-7% to actually win the House.
Wrt the electoral college, I actually get it but the state's votes should be distributed proportionally (e.g. 33% of the vote in a 3 EC vote state gives 1 vote) It makes no sense that losing a state by .1% gives as many EC votes as losing it by 100%.

Everyone’s got their own recurring nightmare—naked in class, teeth falling out, whatever. For Donald Trump, that nightmare is that the world is laughing at the United States, and on Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly, the nightmare came true.
The president’s public remarks are littered with warnings that America is, or might be, the butt of the globe’s jokes.
“In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any other administration in the history of our country. So true,” Trump told the UNGA on Tuesday morning. It’s a standard Trump line, which he usually delivers in front of two primary audiences: supporters who believe it, and reporters who just scoff and shake their head, knowing it’s not true.
The delegates at the UN were neither so supportive nor so jaded, and they openly laughed at him. Trump rolled with it. “Didn’t expect that reaction, but that’s okay,” he said, eliciting another round of chortling. Still, the reaction had to sting.
Conserative Morality wrote:"It's not time yet" is a tactic used by reactionaries in every era. "It's not time for democracy, it's not time for capitalism, it's not time for emancipation." Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

The world has been laughing at America since 2016. Nice that the president is aware of that now.

The author there got it wrong, really. Trump's worst nightmare is that people are laughing at him. He cares for the United States only insofar as it reflects his success, his greatness. His rolling with it only shows that he can actually master his temper in a public venue. I would not want to be on Air Force One on the flight back to DC and have to handle a raging Trump. *shrug* I could be wrong, maybe he didn't care about the laughs in the audience. We'll see what the tweetosphere shows in the next couple of days.

Members of the Council are selected by a secret ballot vote by the UN General Assembly, and decisions within the Council are also taken by a vote, Saudi Arabia just having one. They were once elected to head the Advisory Panel, but there again they have just one vote, despite leading proceedings. It is not ideal, but having Saudi Arabia as a voting member doesn’t discount the entire body. They have done some very good work over the years, and their reports are invaluable in the international fight for human rights.
