Your motto (or anything else) in Cilnotuzian

Postby Qlumez » Sun Sep 05, 2010 5:43 pm

Inspired on this thread.

Cilnotoäm or Zècvou Cilnotoamu is how the language calls itself. It is the official language of Cilnotuz and their former colony, Qlumez.

It's not nearly as good as Tavan or Katothwa Re, but it doesn't hurt to try, right? :(

I can translate mottos or other stuff, as long as it's in English (or parsed to English from another language).

As an example, I'll translate the mottos of some of my other nations:

Laserna - "We're the weaponless generation"
Cùm mibim u valu%úi mab ulbum. Lit: "We are the generation without weapons"

Dainer - "Flamma metuenda tyrannis" (Tyrants shall tremble at the sight of these flames)
Û pemnu samnum rwubum, im nalucim nlabalúi. Lit: "At [the] sight of these flames, the tyrants will tremble"

Ultima Escolha - "Your last resort is our first option"
Mou òznebu amrizwu à cimmu dlebaelu id%úi.

Mondragor - "Whatever."
Koa maxa. Lit: "May [it] be"

Whosoever dies for the people shall live forever.
Note that this is a somewhat liberal translation. The live part actually means that they will be reincarnated as opposed to simply staying alive. Also, if your language lacks a "who" case, it would be best to use the neuter plural, as the sentiment would not apply to the translator.

Oh, and uomewheune specifically means the interest of the people, as opposed to sacrificing yourself to save another's life directly.

It is left lowercase when referring to an individual organism or a biological characteristic.

Koab billa dazi dipi, piznulù û pesu - Lit: "Who dies for the people, will return to life"
"Dipi" means specifically "people" as in "the people of a nation". I decided to use a poetic equivalent of reincarnation instead of translating "live forever" directly, it makes more sense to me.

That was a tricky one to translate. I suppose that, if "intelligence", in that phrase, means "wisdom/clearness of mind", instead of "cleverness/knowledge", you can substitute Ecnazeväcreu (intelligence) for Muqasileu (wisdom).

Our motto:

Some sort of delicious biscuit
Welcome to 1938.

I thought ten thousand swords must have leaped from their scabbards to avenge even a look that threatened her with insult. But the age of chivalry is gone. That of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is extinguished for ever.

Wonderchicken wrote:Actually, both Ecnazeväcreu and Muqasileu are fitting, and a Cilnotuzian-speaking Wochik might just use both. 8)

Good. I was afraid I'd bust my first challenging translation.

Hodoran: "Senga da Iji"
English: "Freedom is Strength"

Zeqalsusa à Til%u
Pretty straightforward.
The % is a unique letter to Cilnotuzian. I use a percentile symbol because I'm too lazy to type an accented R (or a schwa) every time I need it.

Our motto:

Some sort of delicious biscuit

Ob nedi sa qemrieni sazereimi - Lit: "One type of delicious biscuit"
The expression "ob nedi" is a lot less specific than "one type" is in English. conveying the same meaning of undefinition that "some sort" has in the original motto.

"Scientia Victoria Est, Fiat Iustitia"

in English: Knowledge is victory. Let there be justice.

Ricwirebacni à penìleu. Koa maxa taenu xomne%u - Lit: "Knowledge is victory. Let be made justice"
"Koa u xomne%u maxa taenu" (Let the justice be made) would be closer to the common usage, but for a Latin motto I figured out a native Cilnotuzian speaker would use poetic order.

Dil Edward, dazu England a dil Múi George! ...a ao pio unelul obu tzarwu ci izwi sa koab semrilsul!
Lit: "For Edward, for England and for St. George! ...and I will stick an arrow in the eye of who disagrees"

(that was surprisingly hard, because I didn't quite set a rule for translation of all country names yet. I suppose that "Englanallu" would be a good approximation of what Qlumezians might call England, if the country were relevant for them)

My motto: "The nation endures!"

I'l give two possible translations.

U cu%úi dalsolu! - Lit: "The nation lasts!"

U cu%úi lamemna! - Lit: "The nation resists!"

Sure thing.
Ue sim koa múi mùqeim u maom dlìdleim izwim a dlosacnam u moum dlìdlei pemnu! - Lit: "Woe of the [ones] who are wise to their own eyes and prudent to their own view!"
"Ue" literally means "ouch" XD but it has a meaning very similar to "woe" when used together with prepositions in that kind of context.

Morosi: En tera, marin, o ari, sovridamos
English: In land, sea, or air, we prosper

Ab nallu, ùvou io ul, dlimdalubim - Lit: "At land, sea or air, [we] prosper"

German: "Mossat, unser Vater"
English: "Mossat, our Father"

Mossat, cimmi Due
Yeah, straightforward.

“Bringing clarity to your world”

Nlujacsi rzulaju dulu mao bocsi - Lit: "Bringing clarity for your world"
I assumed "clarity" was not used in the literal sense of "brightness"; if that's the case, switch rzulaju for rzulesusa.
