It is the beginning of a new age in the world, though not one familiar to our histories. In the West, the sun rises over an unfamiliar land, but a familiar environment. The Concert members of Europe have grown distant in the years since the defeat of Napoleon, and have all but abandoned their duty to maintain the peace. While the Great Powers consume themselves with their petty squabbles, discontent fanned by the suffering of the masses takes hold. As poverty and hardship become ever more common, the question is not if a revolt will occur, but when. The Eastern Mediterranean has seen the once glorious Ottoman Empire enter its terminal decline, with opportunistic powers waiting eagerly to carve riches from the once great state. The Commonwealth looms over all, with vast armies and even vaster resources shackled only by its own internal divisions. How long even these will keep them in check is uncertain.

The New World finds itself between the great powers of the East and West, and profits from lucrative trade with all. Freedom and liberty find purchase and primacy here, with Wu colonized Fulang and the Iberian based American Union leading the way to a bright new future for many. Following capture by England in the colonial era, Brazil has evolved into a prosperous agricultural state, though this prosperity has come with a cost, with slaves making up much of the population. Taventinsuyu also stands strong in South America, an Empire that survived as a tributary of Wu to emerge as a solitary native state, alone against the ravages of time.

In the East, the lands of the former middle kingdom lay sundered, but many remain great nations in their own right. Yue and Min maintain vast colonial holdings in Indonesia and the Indian Ocean, and have grown rich off of the luxury commodities they produce. Wu holds much of the Pacific, with holdings as far as Hawaii allowing merchant ships lucrative trade with the New World, while a disciplined and professional army rivaling the best forces of Europe protects her interests on the mainland. North of all these stands the realm of Qian, an expansive state with aspirations to unite the kingdoms of the South under their glorious rule.

As the world enters a new era of nationalism and imperialism, much change may yet be seen. Gears and furnaces begin to join the familiar din of powder and cannons, promising wealth and power to those who harness these formidable resources and death to any that stand in their way. The siren song of revolution lingers in the ears of the downtrodden and oppressed, with the banners of liberation calling more each day. Will you guide a great power into a new age of peace and plenty? Will you brave the new world to build a fledgling state into a force to challenge the glories of the old? Or will you guide an empire into blood and war for the relentless pursuit of power. The choice, great leader, is yours...

Tales of Two Horizons is a crafted alternate history rp based on the concept of Eastern states that are comparable to the West. As such, the lands of Cathay are advanced, but divided, the distant memory of unification being much like Rome to the West. You are free to craft a story for your chosen nation if you would choose. History is your canvas, though major events more than likely still played out in a similar fashion to real history for cohesion purposes.

Ambassadors Information-

Relations: Britain tries to maintain cordial relations with powers that it is in contact with. However, it does enjoy a somewhat friendly rivalry with Yue, though actual conflict is unlikely. Britain maintains favorable trade relations with several nations, notably Aragon, the Hanseatic League, Persia and the Commonwealth, as well as Military Alliances with Persia and the Dual Kingdom. Britain maintains friendly relations with her daughter Brazil in the new world, as well as the American Union. Britain is mostly ambivalent to other New World nations, though it does maintain concern over the United Provinces' ambition in Columbia.
Population Info
Brief Description of your people: The peoples of the United Kingdom are a very diverse group. Though hardship may be a reality for some, the mentality of the British remains optimistic, with hope that the next day will be better than the last. The peoples of the various colonial holdings are increasingly accepted by their brothers and sisters in the Atlantic territories, with the building belief that all subjects and holdings of the Kingdom are equal in their stature and importance to the Crown.
Religion:Anglicanism holds its place in the sun as the official religion of the United Kingdom, while other Protestant denominations and Catholicism are also present in smaller concentrations. Hinduism remains a major faith in Company territories in India, while Ceylon is generally Buddhist.
Ethnicity: Anglo-Saxon Protestant lovers of Tea.
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Depends on Region, but in most cases this would be the Anglo-Saxon base. Other groups are more accepted in Britannias other lands, especially Columbia, which has seen a large influx of Irish peoples caused by the food troubles in the Emerald Island. This being said, with the incorporation of Columbia as a Grand Duchy Britain also has seen a growing movement towards being a “pluricontinental nation”, and as such is more accepting of other cultures than it otherwise might be.

Other Cultures: Traditionally this would be the groups that aren't of the Anglo-Saxon Protestant varieties found in England. The population is expected to at the very least maintain a veneer of proper Britishness, though in recent years Britain has increasingly been accepting of other culture groups at their base.

Military Info

Army:
The army varies across the vast territories of the empire, but overall it is equipped with modern arms and is drilled by good British officers.

Columbia- 25.000 Troops of good quality and equipment.

East Africa- 15.000 Troops of fair quality and good equipment.

Madras- 100.000 Troops of moderate quality and good equipment.

Scattered garrisons elsewhere on Britain's islands, mostly of moderate quality equipment and training.

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: Britannia enjoys a robust economy, fueled by the fruits of the first industrial revolution and thriving off of the fires of manufacturing. British exports are consumed across the globe, with Yue being the primary (only) current rival to Britain's economic ascension. While industry is centered mostly in Britain with some industries in Columbia (notably ship-building), production of other luxury and exotic goods is undertaken in quantity in the colonies, especially Madras.

Goals:

Maintain the peace in Europe.

Further integrate various colonial dominions.

Possibly expand further into India.

Protect interests in Africa and possibly expand there.

Profit.

And soon, dare I say, the Empire.

History:
Following the intervention of France against Iberia during what came to be known as the “Atlantic War” (Rl Anglo-Spanish wars), England and then Britain enjoyed the lucrative products of Brazil, while trade flourished with the New World and abroad. More entrepreneurial settlers soon found themselves flocking to Brazil to establish agricultural empires, profiting off of vast shipments of Sugar, Dyes, Tobacco, and other New World goods, while settlement in North America was most limited to New England and Newfoundland. British merchants began to be in regular contact and competition with their counterparts in the far East, with a race to develop influence in the Indian subcontinent going on for decades against both Min and Iberia. The outcome of the Seven Years War saw Britain solidify its control over South India and gain further territories in the Caribbean as well as Africa. Britain supported the American Revolution along with France, liberating the Union from Iberia finally in 1783.

The Napoleonic Wars saw Britain fight admirably, notably participating in the naval engagement at Trafalgar, with the final triumph over the French Empire coming at Waterloo in 1815. Britain subsequently was involved in the Congress of Vienna, where it and Saxony successfully lobbied for Bohemian independence from Austria, while Britain also pressed for the continued independence of Venice. Brazil gained its independence following the Napoleonic wars, but remained a friendly trading partner to Britain. Columbia, though it had enjoyed more local rule following the American Revolution to the far South, was granted further status and representation in late 1816, when it was incorporated as a Grand Duchy of the realm.

Britain has since sought to increase its economic and military influence through its own territories and further, with the establishment of a military alliance in 1828 with Persia and the more current diplomacy with both Wu and Yue. Industry continues to thrive in British territories, with factories filling the skies of cities with smog and soot, while steam vessels become increasingly common in the navy as well as in civil use. Plans are in place for possible further expansion in India, seen as a potential bulwark against the possible threat of Yue.

hello there

Yue character | Jyutping transliteration | English name | Translation of Yue

Generic Info
Nation Name: 越 | jyut6 | Yue, Yut | Yue - sometimes, variously - 百越 | baak3jyut6 | Hundred Yue, Bakyue, Bak Yue | Hundred Yue - 南越 | naam4jyut6 | Namyue, Nam Yue, South Yue | South Yue - 大越 | daai6jyut6 | Great Yue, Greater Yue, Grand Yue | Great Yue - 越國 | jyut6gwok3 | Yue nation, Yue country, Yue state | Yue country - or combinations thereof
Symbols: The colour red and other associations with the south in Chinese culture (fire, wet heat, vermilion bird, etc.) and this plummy colour Image albeit more leaning red than blue, and the character for Yue I guess ||| flamingoes (yes pink ones) represent Zhunzu and Hakngon, i.e. Chinese East Africa, unless someone objects
Location: idk --- African colony is Hakngon (黑岸, hei1an4) meaning black coast, Australia is Hungjoeng (紅陽, hong2yang2) meaning red sunlight
Population: probably about 40 million, 30 in the homeland and 10 in the colonies, this can be made exact in future)
Capital City: Jyutdou (jyut6dou1, meaning Yue capital, modern location of Guangzhou or thereabout; see this

Government Info
Government Type: Mohist republic? Mixed governmental republic? Meritocracy, plutocracy, democracy?
Brief Explanation of Government: Essentially follows many tenets of Mohism, although it has one-upped it and removed a hereditary monarch entirely. Ideas such as meritocracy exist in the inclusion of scholars, merchants and other high flyers in the government, with in particular one plutocratic group who are purely there by wealth. The idea of caring impartially and the Confucian idea of the inherent goodness of people has also planted a universal, populist seed wherein there are popularly elected members too. The wide representation of society also appeals to not only Mohist but legalist, Confucian, etc. desire for order.
Ideology: In order of influence, Mohism, Legalism, Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, Islamism
Leader/s: Directorial; the Daaiwui, or Great Assembly, (大會) are all heads of state, government, etc. I'll detail a few key members sometime soon.
Relations Considerable concern over Qian expansionism, aims to check it by guaranteeing and aiding its neighbours in inland China. Regional rival of Wu, over colonies, trade, industry, culture, wealth, etc. Covetous of Min colonies, but protects it as a land buffer against Wu. Relatively friendly with other inland Chinese. Zimsing is essentially tributary. Johore was formerly so, but has recently broke off; great concern there. Ambivalent, vaguely positive with Lan Xang, Cambodia, funds instability in Taungoo to keep it occupied. Vaguely friendly with Korea, ambivalence on Japan. Potential Indian relationships? Probably some kind of relationship with Chinese American states (Chile, Tawantinsuyu, Central America, Fusang) but idk what exactly, probably trying to bring Central America onside in order to build the Guatemala Canal. Friendly rivalry with the UK; competition over colonies, trade, etc. and because of culture, but ultimately similar goals in world stability and free trade - generalised dislike of other European colonial powers in the region for getting in the way, ambivalence about the rest of the world.

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: admixture of Han Chinese and locals, mostly the former; acclimatised to the region
Religion: traditional folky stuff as mentioned above, maybe even arguably areligious; large minorities of Buddhists, Muslims, and much smaller of various Christians, Hindus, etc.
Ethnicity: idk, Yue? in the region you have han, austronesian and tai-kadai, and only the zhuang/liao are relevant outside a wholly yue han (min assimilated to degrees, ping and hakka not a thing)
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Yue, there's a long list of regional variation but who cares, and Liao (which is like Zhuang but not derogatory and bigger; Rauz), fuck everyone else
Other Cultures: Miao? who cares lel, also Malays and Aborigines whatever in the colonies but they're irrelevant in every way and declining

Military Info
Army: like kinda big, mainly defensive, emphasis on infantry, gunnery, mobility, fortification, light artillery, use of terrain; generally ok and ok funded, meritocratic system, uses doglocks, uhhh idk - probably divided into an Army of the East, Army of the North, Army of the West, Army of the South, Army of the Centre. few hundred k, and more reserves though some are a bit isolated and shit, may even use arrows
Navy: Pride of the country; junks are essentially equivalent to onedeckers or twodeckers, and represent unique Chinese seafaring, in addition to watertight compartments to prevent sinking. Artillery used includes carronade type things, arrow cannons, rockets and fire arrows, while there is some development of the use of fabrics as a very rudimentary armour. Lime and incendiaries are still flung at enemies at close range from the bow by ballistic weapons, where an often somewhat ornamental weapon is mounted. A kind of "ship of the line" designation exists for all those ships capable of oceangoing and of fighting in the main battle line; of these ships there are 31. There are also extremely large numbers of smaller ships, for harassing, transport, scouting, and so forth. All of these are managed under a meritocratic agency of Yue, parallel to the army: the navy.

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: one of the most industrial in the world, centred on Jyutdou, has railways but still relies heavily on ships of various sorts esp. riverine, productive in consumer goods especially, free trade oriented, wealthy but mostly not trickled down to the masses, mostly runs off wealth taxes, technologically advanced and innovative, overall doing well
Goals: south china sea mare internum, free trade world, industrial technological etc. dominance, get colonies
History: rip tang, yue establish, goody with song, resisted mongols, king died, colonies; it's in the OP except for Yue being invaded in 1300 and the king getting killed but the mongols being repelled
RP Sample: previous toth

Brief Description of your Economy: Domestic trade vastly exceeded international trade in both value and volume though researchers have little in direct measurements. Ahmed bin Qahtan illustrates the size of internal trade by considering some examples. In 1914 less than a quarter of agricultural produce was being exported the rest being consumed internally. The early 17th century saw trade in Hashemite-made goods in the Damascus province exceeded five times the value of all foreign-made goods sold there. Finally, among the sparse internal trade data are some 1890s statistics for three non-leading cities. Their sum value of their inter regional trade in the 1890s equaled around 5 percent of total Hashemite international export trade at the time. Given their minor status, cities like Jeddah, Edirne, Salonica, Damascus, Beirut or Aleppo being far greater than all three, this is impressively high. These major trade centers, dozens of medium-sized towns, hundreds of small towns and thousands of villages remains uncounted – it puts into perspective the size of domestic trade. Two factors that had major impact on both internal and international trade were wars and government policies. Wars had major impact on commerce especially where there were territorial losses that would rip apart Hashemite economic unity, often destroying relationships and patterns that had endured centuries. The role of government policy is more hotly debated – however most policy-promoted barriers to Hashemite international and internal commerce disappeared or were reduced sharply. However, there appears little to indicate a significant decline in internal trade other than disruption caused by war and ad-hoc territorial losses.
Goals: To establish economic and cultural supremacy as well as to unite the lands of Islam.
History: After the Civil War, Ottoman rulers were expelled and various Hashemites from Hejaz were brought to rule the nation. The nation has been united when various Hashemite dynasty ruled Emirates unified, in response to rapid Saudi expansion.

Alright now I'm just gonna stop ya there. Because there seems to be....several mistakes regarding this.

1. several nations on your list of allies, enemies, and trading partners don't exist nor would want to trade with you. Them being Germany, Italy, Seljuks, Portugal, Russia, and Japan. Japan wouldn't even want to trade let alone with the Ottomans, Japan is isolationist. Germany if you looked at the map is still disunited, Portugal is under Iberia, Russia in under control of the Commonwealth of Four Kingdoms, and not sure why Min would trade with you either.

2. you're going to have to be more specific on your cultures, not just "Balkanese", "South Asian", and "Central Asian" You have to be a bit more detailed there.

3. Your military description is lacking, you need to expand on it. When it asks for branches in the military it's more like military units like infantry, jannisaries, cavalry etc. You also need to expand on their quality because "moderate weapons" doesn't tell me how good they actually are. The same goes for your navy, you tell me how many men are in it but how many ships of certain classes do you have, saying you have "skilled men" doesn't tell me or any of my colleagues anything about it.

4. Your economic section tells me little of the current economic state, don't tell me that these areas were good for economic trade and the likes. Tell me what the country actually does, like how industrialized are they, what do they export, and what they must import, etc.

5. Your history is lacking severely, saying that the country had a civil war and the Hashemites came to power after deposing the Ottomans is 1. highly unlikely due to the nature of the Arab tribes to unite during the current times such as this. 2. Doesn't delve deep enough of any events, just telling us there was a civil war doesn't automatically give you access to something such as this. 3. You obviously didn't use any of the already summarized lore in the OP, I would also suggest using that.

6. Your current RP example is not all that colorful, lots of small short paragraphs and occasional one liners but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt. If you can show promise in remaking your app I will be willing to see if you may join, though I cannot promise anything with my colleagues.

So until you mend these mistakes I am going to have to deny you.

Government Type: Theocratic federal absolute diarchy
Brief Explanation of Government: Rulers are given their position with divine power on behalf of the gods, and wield absolute authority as such. The government is split into two regions, Mayapan and Moskito, the latter of which is essentially a viceroyalty and is equal only in name.
Ideology: Cultural conservatism, environmentalism, agrarianism

Relations Can't do this right now without bugging everyone all night so let's just say afraid of Mexico

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: The people of the nation are highly diverse and the indigenous groups constitute a majority.
Religion: Primarily traditional belief, although along formerly-colonized areas there is a syncretic Catholicism characterized by a local saint known only as the Lady of Death
Ethnicity: Primarily Maya, with Miskito and smaller Chibchans as a strong minority. Mestizos and Criollos exist in formerly colonized areas, and if they refuse to integrate into society as a whole are isolated into reservations where they cannot spread their foreign influences. Hispanicization is highly frowned upon.
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Maya, Miskito
Other Cultures: Chibchan, Mexican

Military Info
Army: The army fights using very traditional structure and methods. The jungle attrition is fully allowed to run its course, with skirmishes involving ambushing armies of up to a full thousand slowly picking off enemy numbers and resources. Full-scale armies exist, but leaders try to control the situations in which these engage to maximize effectiveness in defense. The primary tactic involves a volleyed march. Ranged weapons such as rifles, spears, darts, and slings are used to launch volleys toward enemy ranks, with soldiers moving between shots and reloads. This movement tends to favor traditional weapons, where riflemen often lag behind in the method. The ultimate goal is to weaken the enemy lines enough that a strong, spirited charge with swords, bayonets, clubs, maces, and spears will break the line and cause a rout, at which point many enemies can be captured. If not, then the warriors will enter into sustained frontal combat, with whatever rangers lagging behind still shooting into the enemy's back lines until they catch up.

Organization is tiered. There exists, as the leader of an army, the halach uinik, the "Real Man", who acts as a general in war and a statesman over a number of cities in peace, equivalent roughly to a duke or a lesser king in Europe. Beneath this are his ajaw, the "Lords", who rule individual cities, or small clusters of cities, in peace time, and in war guide the warriors from their city as the field commander. This fulfills the roll of a field marshal, colonel, or major. Alternatively, the ajaw may be perceived as a captain. In general, they represent the higher officers partaking in direct combat. They would be the equivalent to a European count or baron. The lowest officer rank is nacom, often granted to lesser nobles and particularly accomplished warriors. They fulfill the role of historical knights, and in more modern terminology act as lieutenants. Beneath the nacom, there is no formal organization- there is only respect of warrior brothers and those who succeed more than others.

To recap:
State military
Regional cluster
City forces
Divisions of city forces
Common soldier

Navy: The Mayan navy is somewhat weak, and suffers generally. Although attempts to build a much more modern navy to counter piracy and potential privateers has been in policy for decades, there has never been sufficient foreign interest to actually build one of sufficient size. For what it is worth, the small navy is effective at patrolling shallow waters, and would be an apt coastal defense force. However, in prolonged naval combat, it simply does not have much of a place. There is one steam-powered ship in the entire navy, and it's considered a national treasure by the government.

Brief Description of your Economy: The economy is pretty alright I guess I dunno it depends how other people feel. Exports include stuff like sugar and spice and everything nice, while imports include guns and also guns but let's not forget people with skills and equipment
Goals: Survive and maybe modernize a little too but only on our terms >:(
History: Xiu. Kokom. Itza. K'iche. Long ago, the four major kingdoms lived in peace and harmony. Then, everything changed when the Spaniards attacked.

It started off so simple. The people gathered on the coast of Tulum and bore witness to moving mountains of wood, guided by clouds tied down, bearing the force of the wind to move across the great sea. The Yucatec observed with great caution as they drifted by, and eventually made their landing. They were met, and the greeting was cordial in the end. They departed, seemingly never to return.

All was quiet for some time, but then came word- the emperor to the west had fallen, and his empire collapsed. Instead, the strange pale foreigners had taken control, and were increasing the mining and quarrying efforts to such a strong degree, weakening the people in the process, that plague ravaged the land. Some mustered a defense, but they had no idea the horrors that would come. Many arrows rained upon the Spaniards, but it seemed as if only one in ten could kill these glowing men of metal. They came, riding upon stags, and plowed through the lines of warriors. The messages were clear- the gods were displeased, and a new cycle was soon to begin.

August 13, 1521. That is the name commonly used by outsiders for the dreaded day of the dreaded year. The Spaniards had arrived a century before the end of the long count, and had begun to bring destruction. By 1521, they had lingered for years, causing more plague and more warfare. It was a clear buildup to the last long count, starting in 1618, that would bring in a new era by wiping the old clear through elemental forces. Indeed, the next long count would surely be one of strife and of blood, and this preceding century was key to setting the world for such an era.

Even more, August 13, 1521 represented the rebirth of a smaller cycle. A 13-day period under the Serpent began, symbolized by a power vacuum with many struggles between divine beings for the throne. With the collapse of Aztec authority, it seemed all too real to life. The gods, it seemed, demanded more blood from the Maya, and so it would be.

The Spaniards launched invasions, taking city by city. Kings began bloodletting over their whole domains, trying to gain divine favor and protection. One by one, the lands of the Yucatan slowly fell, but the blood shed in battle pleased the gods. The conquests grew slower, more heavy, and by the turn of the year 1600 divine beings began to appear. Talking trees, new saintly figures calling for the end of the cycle, sightings of gods themselves roaming the jungle- the world was prepared for the final long count. The Itza, the stalwart defenders of the highlands and who had thus far resisted every effort against them, were just as prepared.

The calendar turns to a new age, a new long count, and so it was.

The Itza rapidly launched invasions of remaining Mayan cities, offering them protection from the outsiders. Wars were fought, diplomacy engaged, and the Itza knew then that they would control the coming long count and decide the fate of all men. They turned south, land previously ignored, and began fighting for it. First was the war with the K'iche, which lasted 15 bloody years. When their land was captured, sacrifices were offered to every cenote and temple in the land, and by the end of the year the blood of ten thousand people had been shed, largely captives from the war. Then came the conquest of the Miskito, an organized kingdom but nowhere near as developed. The campaign raged on, with skirmishes and battles, but was over in five years. The Itza showed mercy, and spared the Miskito king to rule his nation under the Maya.

The Itza king, B'alumyok, or Jaguar Paw, looked to the Iberian crawl. They were slowed ever more, but never ceasing. He knew that, in time, his warriors would falter, and there could only be so much done by then. Seeing this and feeling his heart heavy, he devised a plan. Once he had finished a series of campaigns against the Chibchan groups of the far south, he sent men disguised as mestizo Easterners to rile up the population of the Iberian colonies. They spread stories of the "talking crosses" and the "new saints" declaring a desire for return to the ancient ways. This would not do alone, however- B'alumyok sent ambassadors to Europe with his new coast in the south, using ships 'legally acquired' from Iberian colonies, to try to find allies.

The first he heard was of the Austrians. They, according to stories told from distant lands and from defectors to his cause, were the lords of the continent. Their dynasty, it was said, controlled everything- even Spain. By the time the ambassador arrived, news likewise arrived of the death of the king of the Spaniards. Although no agreement was met officially, the ambassador provided the Austrian with a jaguar pelt and a live parrot. He then traveled to another powerhouse, France, considered the cultural heart of the continent.

In France, he found a much warmer reception. While commoners and nobles alike admired his exotic clothing and tattoos, the French king met with him as an equal man. They reached an agreement, where the French would provide weaponry and even offered to send officers back to the homeland to train soldiers. The ambassador thanked him profusely, and stated the alliance would be grand. He presented the French king with several pouches of chocolate and vanilla, several spicy peppers, a jaguar pelt, a turkey, and two parrots, and took his leave.

He would learn much of Europe, find a few dictionaries, and return to his Itza homeland prepared for a future endeavor. B'alumyok was pleased enough, but disappointed. He studied the dictionaries extensively, and raised his children learning the European diplomatic language, Latin, as well as the French tongue, alongside their usual languages. Training with rifles greatly aided the Mayan cause, as previously they had relied on very informal use and untrained deployment- ultimately slow and ineffective. With proper training, they saw how damaging they could be. The French officers were showered with gifts by the well-aged B'alumyok, and all was good.

His successor would send ambassadors once more in 1697, when the last Iberian attack to the south went forth. They had, decades ago, shifted their focus northward, and were tiring of their efforts to keep and conquer the southern areas. Indeed, so tired that this last war was a massacre. Using their new training and weapons, the Mayans put up a fierce resistance, and drove the Spaniards off once and for all from any attempts at invading the Itza kingdom.

Another delegation would be sent in 1704, after the outbreak of a new war over the Spanish throne. Here, the Austrians showed much more compliance in the Mayan requests, and offered military aid against future Spanish incursions, as well as their own equipment trade. The French, in a counter to the Austrians and upholding the agreement made prior, began to grant old bombards- great beasts of iron and copper which hurled stone balls to great distances. The Mayans prospered under this new system, and their new "Easternized" presentation of themselves, as educated folk knowledgeable in the European fashions and classics, but exotic all the same, worked wonders to the idea of the Mayans as a civilized nation amidst barbarians.

All would rest calm and easy, relatively speaking, for decades. The Mayans praised this, stating that they had averted the century of strife and bloodshed warned of by the priests a century ago- by their own action, they had once more won the favor of the gods, and they had appeased them enough to once more call off the destruction of man. So it was, these cycles. Even better, opportunity arose as agitation in the Iberian colonies began to peak. The Mayan plants of divine appearances played their role, but the colonial frustration with overseas rule was the dominant cause. This was, as it seemed, a perfect opportunity.

The queen sent her nobles and spies undercover to colonial circles, posed as mestizos, with the goal to implant the Itza agenda into the revolution. As time went, talk of the rights of man, the self-governance of nations, and many enlightened intellectual theories spread through the region- even reaching the queen herself. By the end of the revolution, the ideals of the Mayan revolutionaries and the Itza kingdom had become fully intertwined- the colonies were annexed into the Itza territory, and the queen promised an enlightened rule.

So it was. A decree was set out in Spanish and in the Classical language, outlining the specific rights of citizens- the freedom of belief and the right to bear arms at the top of this list. It did not limit the power of the monarchy, but ensured the rights of her people. Thus it would be, a new enlightened empire.

At the turn of the new century, the dawn of the year 1800, a new decree was made. In the spirit of allowing each their faith and culture, those who wished to remain Iberian in their style were to be granted safe, self-governing spaces to be such- reservations, while those who wished to partake in wider indigenous society were granted free paths to do so. Not much has changed since then, and 48 years later the new queen rules in much the same way as her father and her grandmother did- enlightened, but absolute. Civilized, but exotic. Most of all, she does not forget the sacrifices made to keep the world going, those of the past and those she must do to uphold this status.

Government Info Federal Republic, in the middle of a big constutional change
Government Type: Federal Republic
Brief Explanation of Government: The Dutch Republic is a federation, with far-reaching autonomy for the ten provincies. Holland, Utrecht, Frisia, Groningen, Drenthe, Overijssel, Gelderland, Brabant, Limburg and Zeeland all have their seperate provincial parliaments, called Provinciale Staten. The provincial parliaments are elected by a number of people with voting rights. These can be inherited or connected to a prestigious position such as mayor of a big city. These provincial parliaments elect provincial governments, called Gedeputeerde Staten, and have the right to elect the members of the National Parliament, called the Staten Generaal. The Staten Generaal are, formally, the highest entity. Their secretary, the raadspensionaris, weilds a lot of political power and is the de facto head of government.

The de jure Head of State is the Raed van State, a council of wise men elected for life by the Staten Generaal who have the right of veto with regard to new laws. De facto, the Orange family has held the prestigious position of Stadholder of the most important provinces - Holland, Zeeland and Frisia. The Stadholder is the head of the Provinciale Staten. This position is passed on in the Orange family in the case of the three provinces mentioned - in the other provinces, the Stadholder is elected by the Provinciale Staten.

A large movement of liberal citizens is striving for a more modern design of governmental structurs. They want to introduce a nationally elected Second Chamber. This chamber would serve as legislative body and would be elected by anyone paying enough taxes (around 1.6% of the population). The current Staten Generaal would become the First Chamber, and would be stripped of most its power. In the proposed structure it would be allowed to veto any law proposed and passed by the Second Chamber, but it not to initiate laws or to amend them. Will revolution be necessary to implement these changes, or will they be passed gradually and willingly by the people in power in the acceptance that the old system is not fit for survival in the future?

Ideology: The two main factions in the current political context are the Orangists, who strive for more power for the Stadholder - and the Statists, who desire a powerful Staten Generaal. Other major factors currently outside of the political process are radicals, liberals and christian-democrats.

Leader/s:De Factor Head of Government: Raadspensionaris Jacob Hendrik van Rechteren van Appeltern
De Jure Head of Government: The Staten Generaal

De Facto Head of State: William VII of Orange-Nassau, hereditary Stadholder of Holland, Frisia and Zeeland, elected Stadholder of Utrecht, Brabant, Overijssel and Limburg.
De Jure Head of State: Raed van State

Relations
The Dutch are hostile to Belgium, that has declared independence only a decade ago. This was an outright disaster for the Dutch, as for decades the Dutch had invested millions in fostering and growing industrial infrastructure in Belgium. After the independence, the Dutch were left devoid of 95% of their industry. Belgium has its independence guaranteed by Great Britain and France.

The Dutch are especially bitterly disappointed that the British, which they helped defeat Napoleon at Waterloo, turned their backs to the Dutch.

Historically, the Dutch regard the French as sworn enemies. After initial friendly relations, the French - envious of Dutch wealth and success - attacked the Dutch Republic in 1672 in what the Dutch call "the Year of Disaster", together with Sweden, Cologne, Münster and the United Kingdom. Somehow, the Dutch managed to defeat all these enemies - but the betrayal by the French King Louis XIV was never forgotten, and the Dutch have since participated in almost every war against France. Napoleon managed to defeat the Republic and chase out the Stadholders. With English help, they regained their titles and side by side the Dutch and English fought Napoleon at Waterloo. The occupation of the Netherlands during the French times was disastrous for the Dutch position as major trade hub and effectively ended its prominence in Europe. For this, the French are deeply resented by higher and lower class alike.

The Netherlands has warm ties with the United Provinces of Kolumbia, a country that shares a common history and heritage with the Dutch Republic.

Politically, the Dutch are left without real allies in an increasingly dangerous Europe. They hope the neutrality they have declared after losing Belgium will hold, and in order to safeguard Dutch interests military spending has been increased significantly over the last years. With regard to trade, the Dutch have managed to keep trade lines open with most of the biggest world powers. It is the only source of income that is still intact. Their days as the leading trade nation of the world have long past, though, and are not expected to return any time soon.

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: In the West and North, the Hollanders and Frisians are tradesmen, seafaring people. In the South, the Brabanders focus mainly on agriculture. The same goes for the people of the East: the Gelderlanders, Twentenaren and Drentenaren. Fishery is a main source of income for all coastal provinces. The Dutch are known around the world for their directness, openness and rudeness. This especially applies for the Hollander.

Religion: Roman Catholics (majority, especially in rural areas), Calvinists (upper class, religion of most state leaders), Protestants, Jews - and a couple of Humanists, Anabaptists, Atheists.
Ethnicity: Germanic, mixed with a lot of different ethnicity due to a long history as the worlds biggest trade hub.
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Dutch, Frisian
Other Cultures: N/A

Military Info

Army
The largest part of the Dutch army is not particularly well-equipped, and lacks proper training. A few hardened regiments that participated in the battle of Waterloo, where they played a major part in the defeat of Napoleon, are the heart of the Dutch army. These elite regiments are called the “Blue Guard” (Infantry), Scottish Grenadiers (Infantry) and the “Orange Household Guard” (Cavalry). The Netherlands has a few other professional infantry, cavalry and artillery regiments of lower stature; with less quality of equipment. The professional soldiers do receive a decent pay.

To fill up the rest of the army, there is a system of conscription, which works via a lottery system. When ones number is drawn, one is forced to enlist for two years. The system allows for number-trading, which caused a lively market in undrawn numbers. As a result, only the poor serve their country as conscripted soldiers against a meagre pay. The upper echelons of the army are packed with aristocrats. When the country is in peril general conscription is a possibility. Whether the Dutch would have enough weapons to equip recruits in that case remains to be seen.

Militia
During war time, the Dutch can count on their “weerbaarheden” – units consisting of students, who train in their spare time. These units are incorporated in the Dutch command structure and headed by trained officers during war time. The weerbaarheden have around 1,500 members.

Navy
In the past, the Dutch fleet won spectacular victories against Spanish, French and even English fleets and it has never been defeated at its own shores. After the devastating occupation by the French, not much is left of the Dutch fleet. Dutch shipwrights continue to be among the best in the world, however, and slowly but surely a Dutch navy is being rebuild. The Dutch have an abundancy of skilled sailors because of the huge Dutch merchant fleet, and are known for their almost unmatched skills in navigation. Because of this, in the shallow waters that surround the coastline of the Netherlands the Dutch fleet could still best much larger fleets. It has little heavy ships, relying on light vessels and the manoeuvring of its captains and sailors mostly.

Other Info

Brief Description of your Economy: Dutch economy has collapsed since the loss of Belgium and the loss of almost its entire industrial capacity. The Dutch are glad to have secured the treasury during the war, and are able to make some investments to build up an economy of their own. The current economy resolves around trade, fishery, the export of naval and water management knowledge, the banking sector and some minor textile and tobacco industry around the towns of Tilburg and Geldrop in Brabant. Ambitious plans to turn the small city of Enschede in Twente into a major industrial hub are in the making.

Goals: Build an economy, maintain independence and neutrality (short term), reestablish control over Low Countries, become a major trade hub (long term)

History: The Dutch Republic came into being after a time filled with turmoil in the Low Countries: Reformation, Counter-Reformation, Beeldenstorm.. After eighty years of fighting, the Spanish sued for peace and allowed the Dutch to leave.

The Dutch became the first big federal non-merchant state Republic in history to flourish. The absence of a despot drew bankers, jews, traders, artists and tradesmen from the entire world to hubs as Amsterdam, Haarlem, Rotterdam and Zwolle. From the 1550's on, the Dutch Republic had the highest GDP per capita in the world. The peak of its prominence was in the 17th century, when it owned 50% of the worlds merchant fleet, in which it managed to burn the English fleet in its own harbour at Chatham and defeat a combined French-English fleet at Texel in 1672 and in which it survived despite being attacked by all of Europe. After the Glorious Revolution, in which a Dutch army defeated the English King and sent him into exile, the Dutch entered a personal union with England.

Though this strengthened the Dutch diplomatic position, it turned out to be disastrous for the Republic in the long run. The friendship with England was most pleasant for the English, who no longer had to fight the Dutch fleets for control over the North Sea. The English became the prominent force on the seas, and only when it was too late the Dutch realized their role was played out.

The Fourth Dutch-English sea war, over Dutch support for American revolutionaries, ended in a defeat, though the only major naval battle of the war could be considered a draw. The Dutch defeat at the hand of French forces and the subsequent occupation of the Netherlands was the final blow for all Dutch aspirations to be more than an insignificant backwater.

After the Vienna Congress, the Republic was granted control over the former Austrian and Spanish Netherlands. The imposing of language laws, making Dutch the only accepted language, and the heavy taxes of the rich Southern Netherlands created revolutionary circumstances. The revolution was suppressed military, but after diplomatic pressure from Britain and France the Netherlands had to withdraw and leave Belgium its independence. This was a huge blow, both to Dutch morale, Dutch relations with its friend Britain and the Dutch economy that revolved around industry in what was now called Belgium. The Dutch are still recovering from this blow, and hope to rebuild their country to some of the prominence it had twohundred years ago.

Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Brief Explanation of Government: The Shahanshah has the power to exercise total control over the state and below him there is an expansive bureaucracy built to ensure that not major decisions can be taken without his consent. The Shah himself exercises his own measures for keeping his ministers under control by fostering an atmosphere of rivalry and competitive surveillance. And since Iranian society is more meritocratic than other states in the region, successions are seldom made on the basis of heritage, meaning that government offices constantly felt the pressure of being under surveillance and have to make sure they govern in the best interest of their leader, and not merely their own. Below the Shah, the two most important officials are the Grand Vizier, chosen from one of the doctors of law, and the Nazi (court minister) who control the royal household. There has been push from the Grand Vizier who wants a stronger authority on the hands of the Grand Vizier and to put Shah as the symbol and military leader, while Grand Vizier as the government leader. Considering that the Grand Vizier is a chosen profession from the selection of the competent officials while Shah came from successions, though oppositions have been made from the royal household.
Ideology: Monarchism and expansionism are the only too real ideologies of the state
Leader/s: Shahanshah Fariborz Mirza Afshar
Relations Iran has close relation with Great Britain with whom they have a defensive alliance and extensive military cooperation. In return for military advisers and the sale of cheap weaponry, Iran has leased out the port of Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf to the British Royal Navy and has given them exclusive trade concessions within Iran, Iran also acts as a key bulwark against Commonwealth imperialism within central and east Asia, a role Britain is keen to protect. Iran also enjoys mutually beneficial if not especially warm relations with Hellas and the Dual Kingdom due to their mutual hatred of the Ottomans, with the latter providing military aid to Iran although on a smaller scale to that of Britain. Furthermore, Iran's two greatest rivals are the Ottomans to the west and the Commonwealth to the north. Of these, Iran is far more fearful of the Commonwealth which they see as a long term, existential threat to the existence of the state which while distant for the present may attempt to interfere in Iranian affairs at any time. The Ottomans on the other hand are seen as weaklings, whom Iran should cripple as soon as possible with many in Tehran espousing the benefits of a swift war with the Ottomans to take control of the Shia lands of southern Mesopotamia, perhaps in collusion with Hellas and the Dual Kingdom. The only other two states that regularly catch the attention of the imperial court are the Mughals and Qian, which are seen as both possible threats and possible partners, Qian against the Commonwealth and the Mughals against any other more expansionist Indian states.

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: Oh god, this will take awhile. The largest ethnic group in the country are the native Persians who make up a plurality, but not a majority of the population. The next largest group are the restless Pashtuns in the eastern provinces whom are often seen as a threat to imperial stability and suffer bouts of oppression when Tehran thinks they are getting too restless or powerful. Behind them other major ethnic groups include the Shia Afghani tribes, the Caucasian peoples, Kurds, Arabs and Turkmens all of whom are kept mostly loyal to the state, suffering relatively little discrimination, especially when compared to the Pasthuns. The Caucasians, especially those who have converted to Shia Islam, are especially courted by the government as a key bulwark against Commonwealth expansion and often take important leadership roles within the military.
Religion: Shia Islam is the official religion of the state, however with the exception of Sunni Islam, most religions are tolerated and have long been granted freedom of worship
Ethnicity: Numerous ethnic groups are present: Persians, Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazara, Uzbeks, Aimaq, Turkmens, Balochs, Arabs, Kurds, Armenians, Azeri's, Georgians.
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Persian, Azeri, Armenian, Georgian, Tajik, Hazara
Other Cultures: So many little ones like the Lurs and Qashaqai

Military Info
Army: The land forces of Iran are divided between the standing Imperial Army crafted along western lines and supplied with westernized equipment, and the innumerable tribal militias which could be called upon by the Shah should they be needed. The Imperial Army is considered by many to be, with the obvious exception of the Commonwealth, the finest fighting force in the region. Trained and armed by the great powers of Britain and the Dual Kingdom, the regular army of the Shah is thought to be far more formidable that the Ottoman land army, even if some units have not benefited as much from western aide as others and as a whole it is less disciplined and has a poorer command structure than the armies of western and indeed eastern great powers. The Imperial Army is further divided along regional lines with five core commands: The Army of Mesopotamia (130,000), the Army of the Caucasus (100,000), the Immortals (20,000), the Army of the Oxus (50,000), and the Army of the Indus (50,000). Of these the first three are the most formidable, while the latter two have benefited the least from western reforms, showing the emphasis the Imperial court places on the western frontiers. In the event of a war in the east, the Army of the Oxus and the Army of the Indus will almost certainly play a defensive role and rely in large part on regional tribal militias for aide. The Immortals act as an imperial guards unit and are based primarily in Tehran with garrisons in the other major cities of the Persian interior.

It is unknown exactly how many men could be raised by local tribes if called upon, however in general this tactic is avoided due to their poor discipline, lack of formal training and independent spirit. The only militia group that is regularly utilized by the state are those of the Caucasus peoples who are renowned for their ferocity and loyalty to the Shah, other than that call ups are avoided unless the regular army is unable to deal with the threat on it's own.

Navy: With Persia having not tradition of naval power post the Battle of Salamis, the navy is next to non-existent with the only real fleet being in the Black Sea and even this only consisting of a few frigates. The Caspian and Gulf fleets are in reality little more than anti-piracy and tax collecting formations, though there has been push for at least a capable fleet that is capable to defending the ports of Persia.

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: Mainly agricultural but with a similar level of industrialization to the Ottomans in real life, perhaps slightly more advanced to the level of Muhammed Ali's Egypt thanks to British aide and a more strong & stable government than the Ottomans. On the whole, the western territories and Persia proper are more economically developed, while the east in what is now Pakistan and Afghanistan are predominantly rural outside of government strongholds like Peshawar, Quetta and Herat. There are also areas such as the Persian desert interior and Baluchistan that have seen next to no economic development in centuries due to the harsh climate.
Goals: Maintain the cohesion of state, cripple the power of the Ottomans and annexing some lands along the western border, fend off Commonwealth expansionism, establishing a Constitutional Monarchy system.
History:
Foundation of the Afsharid Dynasty: 1736
No civil war after Nader's death and instead his successors are mostly competent: 1796
Crushing of the Pashtun led Peshawar Revolt: 1812
Establishment of military and economic links with Britain, the first British military advisers enter the country: 1828
Reign of Shahanshah Fariborz Mirza Afshar : 1837-Present

I made an addition to adds conflict to the country, mainly a push for the introduction of Constitutional Monarchy, a stronger role for Grand Vizier, and the split of authority powers, where Grand Vizier holds the government authority, while Shah holds the military authority and acts as the symbol of the nation. Also addition to its navy description, I'm aiming for an increase focus on its navy to at least maintain a fleet capable of protecting the ports of Persia.
