It does if the majority of a state's population lives in a select few cities or urban areas. California is more or less a red state in terms of districts, but because of San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego, Sacramento and so on, that turns the state blue. Same situation in New York, only it is NYC that has that state blue.

It's just so hard to look this up apperently.

Doesn't need to. Some regulations on capitalism work almost as well on the municipal level as the state level. What are companies supposed to do, set up shop in some small town in the middle of nowhere?

You've yet prove that people moving to red states somehow correlates with an increase in HDI.

California is only red if you look at land area instead of people, and districts for the state legislature (And congress) are broken down by people not land.

That doesn't matter as much, those are still thought of as Blue states in the popular consciousness because those states go Democrat every single Presidential election and usually have Democrat Senators in the US congress the vast majority of the time. Even though New York looks like a red state at the district level, it is a Blue state primarily because of solely NYC.

An awful lot of New York's economy is concentrated in that one city, so NYC generally speaking, steals all the attention and pork barrel spending from the rest of New York state. They have the most money in that state and so- donate the most money in lobbying and buy the most influence and favors from government.

Housing crises are something cities all around the world need to address. Seize high end and vacant apartments, create more public housing, curtail urban sprawl, etc.

I agree with that completely also place rent control and rent stabilization for everyone ands you'd solve the problem but its too simple so politicians wont do it.

People always want to seize things that don't belong to them.

And public housing has been and always will be a disaster.

Anyway, housing market is too expensive and San Fran is losing people.

With all the selling, prices will fall and people will move back.

They didn't vote for Trump so therefore they are bad people to some. They could do the solution I gave in San Francisco which is Rent control or rent stabilization for everyone and stop building luxary housing for rich people. and the housing problem would be solved easily. Politicians always have to make things so complicated

The problem is that property developers want to build luxury housing. You can't stop them.

I meant for the military. Slash their budget and use the money spend on ships and planes we don't need and invest in public housing.

Yes you can. Simply don't approve the permit to build. That simple.
