Kita-Hinode (HIN) final site bid
Series B Champions’ Cup 66: Tenkaichi Peak View Field, Kamandu (capacity: 20,000)

Image
Home of recently promoted Reaper Kamandu, the Tenkaichi Peak View Field is one of those infamous football stadia that take pride of being located in the mountains, very much like the city of Kamandu itself. Considered to be an even bigger opponent than the team itself for anyone that dares to visit this field, there are some whispers inside the Imperial Hinodejin Football Association that someone picked this one for a bid for the giggles.

AWARDS
Silver Boot (Goals Scored): Winona Bedullin (ACS) - 26
Silver Ball (Player of the Year): Yonas Rasmussen (AZN)
Silver Heart (U-21 Player of the Year): Liesl Vanzanto (DIS)
Silver Star (Domestic Player of the Year): Susaeta Etxeita (AZN)
Team of the Year: Beyer (AZN); Hammesfahr (ACS), Melkmarsson (HON), Vanzanto (DIS), Lael (AZN); Rasmussen (AZN), Radcliffe (GRC), Coxswain (ACS); Aurtenetxe (AZN), Bedullin (ACS), Kvist (HUS)
Manager of the Year: Rocco Gaffory (AZN)

Aznavour OSC romped to a second straight premiership, though they almost choked on the final match, convincingly beaten 4-2 by the Hussards. Despite losing Lux Siravoi, their other young Askari talents, Aurtenetxe and Etxeita, only improved as a tough, artisanal squad yet again had the right mix to succeed against the odds. Yonas Rasmussen, meanwhile, truly came into his own this season, and better still committed to a contract extension at the end. Also worthy of note: Aznavour is the first Legaskari team to win an international tie, beating FC Asvard 5-4 on aggregate. 1093 Club de Atlantea of Taeshan proved too strong for them in the first round, but even then they were held to a scoreless draw on these shores.

Dinamo Sainati ran Aznavour close. For the first time, their success relied on a hard-nosed defensive spine - Woodloe Cash returned from a long-term injury and was partnered by the Cosumarite loanee, Liesl Vanzanto, who replaced him early last pre-season. There was, however, some controversy, as they were able to squeeze in marquee Islander Diogo Melo under the foreigner cap after he naturalised. A rule was quickly put in place to prevent such loopholes in future, and Diogo Melo will count as a foreign player next season largely ‘because the authorities say so’. Even so, with a physical, uncompromising approach and largely the same squad as last season with only a switch of goalkeeper of note did well for them. They would have won on the final matchday, too, if not for a familiar Winona Bedullin goal en route to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of their bitter crosstown rivals.

It was fitting revenge for AC Sainati, who had to avenge the abject humiliation of a staggering 8-0 defeat to Dinamo earlier in the season. That was, however, an aberration in a solid, if unspectacular, season, though there remained the sense that Winona Bedullin was papering over many, many cracks. New signing Elaine Coxswain did her job, which was to feed Bedullin at all opportunities.

The mighty Hussards did what they did best - they attacked, of course! A flashy Llamanean goalkeeper in Kovacic and stolid Brenecian leftback in Hitchcock were exchanged for … a flashy Llamanean goalkeeper in Martin and stolid Brenecian leftback in Kouros, but the stars remained young, flashy winger Huyton on the right and lethal marquee Soren Kvist on the left, the latter continuing to dominate at this level. Martin, perhaps, did not impress as much - and the Hussards conceded the second-most goals in the league.

SSC Honneur lost Destin Chaplin in the offseason and with it, seemingly, their cohesiveness. Bustinza in particular had a massive form drop, but fortunately they could lean on Otto Rush, the marquee striker formerly of FC Samotath, for an edge going forward. Greg Reid and Estanche, too, proved a formidable central midfield bloc. But, at the end of the day, there just wasn’t the fire in them... unless they find form in the finals, of course!

Grigio Calcio scored and conceded less than a goal a game. And yet, despite the loss of many of their veteran players, including flop marquee Axel Yohannes, the struggle going forward was rough as they simply lacked any creative influences, at all. The young Huxstrom brothers in the heart of defence were their stars, though Arleta Radcliffe certainly justified her latefound marquee status.

SSC Crespoli, too, managed less than a goal a match as sadly time just seemed to run out for their marquee midfielder Morgan Kendall. Mediocre foreigners, the acrobatic Samara and the incisive Raihani aside, cost them dearly.
FC Elan continued their policy of solely Semar players and while Torsten Muller massively improved on a poor first season they were badly undercut by a collapse in defence. Change in the air at a club that has struggled to justify its league place.
Stade-National continued to underperform, with the flamboyant marquee Mazza, the workmanlike Sandoval and the mediocre Colline just not clicking up front. Radokzi made a valiant attempt to keep the ship from sinking defensively, but it wasn’t quite enough.
Duredain Barricade continue not to pull up stumps, but performances of pride, strength and discipline were enough to content its parochial home fans. Cosmo Coppellian amused many with four red cards across the season, each largely unnecessary, while Stefan Lindersson was a dismal failure - Jane Martiez, however, continues to quietly impress up front.
LSC Dunelan could not repeat last season’s heroics, and promoting Korhonen to marquee status appeared to backfire as the pressure got to the young winger, while Odovacar Ely was no substitute for Aspen in goal. They did little of note.
Gaillard were poor enough, yet again, to raise the question among fans if they really do enough to justify their place in the league. Dianna Shakir was their lone bright spot.

PRELIMINARY FINALS
AC Sainati 0-2 Grigio Calcio
Hussards 2-0 SSC Honneur

Grigio stunned Sainati with two well-worked set piece goals, as Arleta Radcliffe twice found Sepp ‘Iron Head’ Hobson drifting away from markers. He may not be much of a playmaker, the way Grigio tried to reinvent him, but he’s a devil for headers like this. The glorious Hussards, for their part, trashed a dismal, even pathetic SSC Honneur, and a mere 2-0 was a mercy.

SEMI-FINALS
Aznavour OSC 0-1 Grigio Calcio
Dinamo Sainati 3-4 Hussards

Who’d have thought it? Hobson at it again, running late into the box to find Cosetta Marian’s cross with that powerful forehead. As for the Hussards? They visit a high-flying Dinamo, and… oh, no! Tragically, they fall 3-1 behind at the break, with Diogo Melo, a player who, frankly, Dinamo should not even have, dominant in the centre of the park. But despite the extremely bad Dinamo’s fluky lead, it’s ripped utterly in half when justice is served, and Woodloe Cash’s homicidal challenge on Sabbadin is justly rewarded by a red card! Suddenly, the gaping wound in Dinamo’s spine is torn apart, goals from Sabbadin, Huyton and Bisset demolishing them in a breathtaking finish.

GRAND FINAL
Hussards 1-1 Grigio Calcio (2-1 AET)

Oh, but there could only be one winner. Grigio don’t score through Hobson, this time - it’s Farina Martinet that wins them their goal, falling over a trifle easily after Brandt administers the merest of clips to her ankle in the box. I lied. Hobson takes, and scores, the penalty. But apart from that single bastard Nepharim, the absence of any goal threat from Grigio is well-known, and the Hussards easily dominate the rest of the match. It is only a subconscious sense of mercy, surely, that makes Sabbadin miss an open goal from six yards late on, or Huyton fire straight into Salvatici’s chest when through on goal. Emeraude Tanner gives the Hussards a deserved goal in the 89th minute, and it’s Tanner that slips in her countrywoman Huyton for the winning goal in extra time! A richly-deserved victory for the mighty Hussards, once again!

The Euran Football Association’s Euraleague
Recap on Season 33

Despite Eura’s run to the 78th World Cup final the summer before and the return of big fees to the transfer window ahead of Season 33, hype was not high for the season, especially given how many top players left the league in an unusual summer exodus. However what transpired was one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory as Spartangrad captured the title in a close race with Revolutionaries, Ulsa and Bastion that only concluded very late in the season.

Revolutionaries had led comfortably on goal difference into the final matchday only to throw it all away with an uncharacteristic failure to score away at lowly Workers Union. Their 1-0 defeat courtesy of a controversial Grif Hales winner (allegedly handled on the edge of the box before he fired home in the 67th minute) allowed Spartangrad to win the title by seeing off Holdenberg City 3-1 at home thanks mostly to an inspired Nicolas Moran and Lucan Palmisano. Ulsa and Bastion fell out of the running due to defeats on the penultimate matchday.

Falourr and their impressive multinational lineup were the stars of the season achieving an unexpected fifth place finish, largely courtesy of their immense defensive partnership of Schottia’s Stephen Paul and Nephara’s Ryan Theuer, the formidable midfield of Euran Gael Tobin, Electrumite Anthony Ho and Audioslavian Eduardo Giuffrida, spearheaded by Allejo and the young Morgan Fox. Directus had a disappointing season down in sixth while Holdenberg and Lajuno failed to progress. Brigham’s decline became even more marked as they slumped to ninth without Oscar Coltrane driving them. Farrenton also had an underwhelming season as they rounded out the top half.

Arrowsmith, Hornchurch and Holdenberg City all enjoyed comfortable mid table finishes complete with good performances while Blackfields had to be content with 14th due to the continued gutting of their team, with Unioneers suffering similar problems after losing talisman Liam Armstrong. Dangerford exceeded expectations in surviving and Workers Union saved themselves on the last day with their unexpected win to deny Revolutionaries the title. Dartmoor and AFC Mayville put up a fight as they sank under, Real Oakwood less so. Despite the exciting breakthroughs of various young players and more established names, the standout contender of the season by far was Lazar Eleonora, a superstar in the making who took 15 goals and 19 assists.

In the National Cup, Ulsa won out after being saved from embarrassment against Arrowsmith by a last gasp Craig Sinclair equaliser, going on to win 3-1 on penalties. Euran teams were disappointing for the most part in UICA competition; Spartangrad made the quarter finals of the Champions Cup before being knocked out by Blue Coast 1981, while Revolutionaries were defeated in the Globe Cup semi-finals by eventual runners up Dí Maozöxê.

Notable Retirements

The summer saw the retirement of several big names in Euran football, and three of them were among Eura’s most famous defensive unit. Andrew Watson dominated the left back position for Eura for many years (with brief interruption by Anthony Cotra) and was endlessly solid for Directus, eventually retiring at 37 when they finally found a replacement for the still quite fit player who sadly was off the pace at the international level years ago. Weylon Churchilli came out of retirement (originally he hung up his boots several years ago) to try and fail to save Oakstone, but he did retire having helped return them to the big time. Mark Rogers has not been a consistent starter at Revolutionaries for several seasons but he refused to retire, always confident of his ability to contribute with a wealth of international experience and World Cup winners medal.

Victor Larsen, the ‘Polarian Lamppost’ as he was known in some parts, has retired after a phenomenal twenty year career that he will look back on proudly after ending it by winning the title as Spartangrad’s veteran super sub. Despite being well past his starting number 9 prime it was a season to remember for Victor indeed. Another leading man from the ‘Greatest Generation’ of Sameban’s is gone too – Michael Sarado retires after a prestigious career, along with fellow Sameban greats Roman Mayalla and Eugene Sabattini. Euraleague cult hero Wocjeck Gruber finally hung up his boots after continuing to contribute at the top level well into his late thirties for Brigham, where he will always be remembered fondly for his role in their famous title win. Samuel Salquist was another hero for many Euran fans. The Vermark centreback is an Old Boys Club legend but much loved by other fans as well despite his tendency to crock the players of their teams. Albin Oslograd and Joe Caffin never quite set the world on fire for Eura but certainly did their part, the former having been part of a World Cup winning squad. Other veteran icons of Gold League to go were Phil Gulliver (the mediocre striker who never quit), Tono Morson (remarkably never capped by Farfadillis) and Mason Blake (once briefly the best goalkeeper in the country).

Ceni (CEN) final site bid
Series B Champions' Cup 66: Millennium Stadium, City Centre (capacity 60,000)
Image
City Centre is Ceni's second city and home to 3.6 million people. The city does tend to vote extremely liberal in elections due to its economy, which used to be heavily dependent on chemical manufacturing; however, the city has now mostly switched to becoming a high-tech, green manufacturing center, and labs in City Centre have produced some of the most modern innovations in renewable power and energy efficiency technologies. Unions, unlike in other countries, are very strong here in City Centre. Besides its historic manufacturing, City Centre is notable for its libraries and literature, hosting some of Ceni's most famous authors. City Centre also boasts a thriving gay community. However City Centre is less culturally refined than many other cities in Ceni, such as New Oxford and Cenial. Nonetheless, it does boast its fair share of tourists, who come to visit the playhouses and aforementioned libraries. Like Cenial, it is located along Lake Cenial, and the two cities merge to form one big megalopolis; the city of New Oxford also abuts it to the south, forming a good portion of Ceni's urban population.

The Volatus Millenium Stadium is home to Ceni's best club, Tir Snake Strike, and routinely draws its full capacity of just under 60,000. The stadium is known for its modern curves and structure designed with lots of glass and its 'high tech' appearance, earning the stadium its name of 'Millennium' - the stadium's design reminds people of a new era in stadium construction. The Millenium Stadium is very open to sunlight and has a great temperature when the conditions are just right. Nearby are the indoor tennis courts that host the Volatus Open, in the run-up to the Cenian Open. Again, the stadium is well-connected to public transport, but visitors coming from Cenial might have to spend a little bit of time getting to the stadium, perhaps half an hour away from the center of Cenial by subway.

The Isles of Avon (AVN) final site bid
Globe Cup 66: Gateway Stadium, Stratosphere City (capacity: 75,000)
Image
Stratosphere City is the Isles of Avon's largest city, home to the portal that links Rushmore to the world of Sonnel and Drawkland itself, which owns the Isles of Avon. With a large, cosmopolitan, and diverse population, it is Avon's primate city and home to a large proportion of its population, as well as the largest center of footballing passion in the nation. The name of Gateway Stadium reflects the city's status as a gateway to Drawkland (for Rushmoris) and a gateway to Rushmore (for Drawkians). Glowing and modern, the Gateway Stadium features the most modern advances in everything imaginable, from spotless restrooms to gigantic jumbotrons. Glassy to let in natural light, the stadium also has a large gateway reminiscent of an older train station to let spectators know they have arrived in one of the most up-to-date stadiums in the world. The stadium is also environmentally friendly, built to reduce carbon emissions and water usage across the stadium, with solar panels on the roof, and the stadium is designed in such a way that spectators have unparalleled visability for a stadium of this size. The seating is comfortable and spacious, with many luxurious premium boxes available, as well as a skywalk and a viewing area near the top of the stadium. When it is not hosting matches, the stadium is also a hub for the community, hosting many shops and restaurants.
