The New Toola Times

NEW TOOLAN MONARCHY RECEIVED WARMLY BY POPULATION AS NATIONAL TOUR CONTINUES

Image
King Winston II and Queen Consort Helena Montgomery-Laveau have continued their national tour in Napoli

NAPOLI - The national tour embarked upon by King Winston II and Queen Consort Helena Montgomery-Laveau continues to draw thousand of New Toolans onto the streets in celebration as they continue to make their way across the country. The monarchy has most recently swung through the largest city in New Toola, Napoli. The monarchs were received warmly by the people of Napoli who came out in the thousands to welcome the monarchs to their city in a parade of enormous proportions.

Despite growing national unemployment and inflation, the reception of the monarchs comes much to the relief of the Palmer Ministry and the Crown. Fears of potential backlash towards the monarchs over their decision to mount a national tour in the wake of growing tensions around the country and growing dissatisfaction with the Palmer Ministry were prevalent among advisers and pundits alike. The potential security nightmare has seemingly been able to resolve itself as the NTIS has reported that there have been no credible threats on the lives of the monarchs since the tour began.

The apparent success of the national tour appears to be a testament to the continued faith in the New Toolan Monarchy by the general population. The institution that is the New Toolan Crown remains beloved by the people despite national tension on the political front. Efforts in the past to deviate from a constitutional monarchy towards a republic have had momentum in the past but the success of the national tour has squashed those efforts. Polling conducted on the issue of the opinion of the New Toolan Crown shows an overwhelming 89% of New Toolans holding a favorable view of the Crown with only 11% holding a negative view.

This is not based on measuring success by human competitiveness for wealth, possessions, influence, and fame, but adhering to God’s standards of truth, justice, humility, service, compassion, forgiveness, and love.” - Jimmy Carter

Sinyrus to finish pipeline from Chemensia to Sinyrus
Image

Sinyrus has finished construction of a new pipeline between Chemensian drilling locations to refineries in Sinyrus. The pipeline is named the Kazorija-Marovski Pipeline, named after where the Pipeline starts in Chemensia to where it ends in Sinyrus. The pipeline will give more oil to Sinyrus and continue business with Chemensia, but Sinyrus plans on making it's own drilling plants located in the newly discovered Chernograd Oil Field in northern Sinyrus. A part of the pipeline located in southwest Sinyrus is controversial due to it heading near a park, they had to move it around, and construction continued and is almost finished now.

President Zemlić meets with Yosijan President Omar Darmić

ImageImage

Selsen, Turkidan, Yosija- The President flew a helicopter yesterday morning to Selsen, the capital of Yosija. He is continuing his trip around Yosija and will end his trip in Kadradko. The 2 nations have had a dark past and have a 700 year old rivalry. The most recent confrontation in the 90's in the Kadradkijan and Svetostigrad Wars, both of which President Zemlic fought in. The meeting yesterday between Darmic and Zemlic were mainly to lower the every so slowly increasing tensions in the Kadradko area. For the past year, tensions have rose after the removal of local autonomy from the Camiskijan Republic. This was also the reason for the deadly Svetostigrad War. The meeting began at the Selsen Federal Palace. The public meeting between the 2 leaders was held just before noon. They discussed the Chemensian-Yosijan tensions that flared last November. President Zemlic said that if tensions would flare like they did in 2016, the threat of Camiskijan rebellion would almost be inevitable. Zemlic also said that increasing Camiskijan local autonomy from the Yosijan federal govt.'s control would ease the tensions slightly. However, the President also added that the GGOS militia group would still be a threat. Zemlic said that the GGOS group has one goal; secession from Yosija and for all Chemensian people to be under one Chemensian government. After this they ate at a private lunch in the Federal Palace. After eating, they held a 5 hour long private meeting. Once that was over the leaders and families went to eat at Selsen's most famous restaurant, Regic's. After this, the President went flew back to Svetostigrad and slept preparing for today. Today the president mostly went around and visited Svetostigrad's famous landmarks and also went to Crnigrad, where a memorial stood for the troops that died there on July 5th through 7th, 1994. President Zemlic said that he knew the men behind some of the names inscribed onto the memorial. Tomorrow the President will go to his final destination in his Yosija trip in the divided city of Kadradko, another place President Zemlic was deployed to in the Kadradkijan War. Tomorrow's trip is said to be mainly about creating peace between the Camiskijans and GGOS and the Yosijans and the PMM.

Alien Documentary Implicates Eikangaardi Government

A recently released documentary, Project Darkcell, directed by amateur film-maker Clyff Welsen has officially inplicated the Eikangaardi Government in a massive cover-up tied to the abandoned military base, Fort Sevrd. According to the Documentary, the Eikangaardi Military was involved in a secret, government-sanctioned program to develop and deploy "super-soldiers" to engage in clandestine warfare against "threatening persons or organizations." It is stated that this program involved the kidnapping, forced-internment, torture, and execution of teenage boys and girls, and involved the administration of psychedelic drugs to remove or alter memories, or to imprint subconscious commands into these subjects. Further it has claimed that the Eikangaardi Military is in possession of "advanced, potentially alien technology" recovered and appropriated through covert actions against multiple foreign powers.

The documentary contained multiple eyewitness testimonies by people reportedly involved in the project, either those carrying out the experiments or the subjects themselves. It also further involved the usage of forensic analysis in multiple locations reported to have been part of the project, including Fort Sevrd itself, as well as video evidence of forced-evictions of the camera-crews by Eikangaardi officials at some of these locations.

While initially, the concept of such a program may seem outrageous, but other conceptually similar programs were undertaken by the military in 1977. The most famous (or possibly infamous depending on your perceptions) is Project ALBATROSS, which was a research program intending to test the effects of psychedelic drugs on volunteer soldiers. The goal of ALBATROSS was to determine the effects of these drugs on the combat effectiveness of these soldiers. the program was shut down after a year of operation in 1978 and was declassified in 1994.

While the initial reaction by most Eikangaardis to this documentary and the evidence it provides is one of dismissal, there have been numerous Access to Information Requests made by regular citizens and special-interest groups to the eponymous Project Darkcell. The filmmaker has taken to social media in support of these requests, stating that: "The Government is hiding something, and it's up to us to find out what it is." As of this time, the government has not responded to any of the requests or issued a statement regarding these claims.

During the parade, the remaining Chemical warhead ICBM's were displayed before they were taken for partial decommissioning in a move by Calvas leader Magnus Göransson to lower the global percived threat of Calva whilst still remaining to have active Biological and Chemical deterrents.

Tropical Storm Joshua

A storm the likes of which Pantorrum has not seen in 23 years may be headed our way. The Pantorran Weather Service predicts that Tropical Storm Joshua, which formed yesterday afternoon, will make its way to coastal Pantorrum. It's far to early to know for sure if it will even head in our direction, or where at all it might strike. But the PWS did predict that the storm will go through rapid intensification over the next week as it cruises over warm ocean waters. The storm's growth will be unchecked due to higher than average ocean temperatures and an almost complete absence of wind shear, a key factor that can weaken a Cyclone significantly. The storm has sustained wind speeds of 51 miles per hour, but by the time it makes landfall it could be a powerful Category 3 Hurricane with wind speeds up to 129 miles per hour as it makes its way over 987 miles of warm water.

If the storm hit Pantorrum, it would be an exceptional event. Hurricanes rarely strike Ventismar, due to its more temperate climate. Pantorrum, however, is one of the continents southern most nation, and actually possesses a subtropical climate. Even still, a hurricane heading in our direction is very rare. The last Tropical Cyclone to hit Pantorrum was Tropical Storm Eric in 1994. The last Hurricane to actually hit Pantorrum was in 1956, when Hurricane Allison made landfall as a Category 1.

The threat of major disaster looms over our Southern Coastline, as cities like Cormyr lay in the crosshairs of the deadly storm. Due to the rarity of such an event, the Pantorran Emergency Management Agency said they are not prepared for a system of this magnitude. The storm could cause up to 12 Billion Pantorran Dollars in Damages should it reach category 3 Status before land fall. We can only hope that the storm makes a sharp turn, sparing us from the tragedy of natural disaster. The PWS thinks, however, that such a godsend is unlikely. They've pointed out the strange pressure system, which seems to be lines up perfectly to deliver the storm right into our homes.

Terror Plot Foiled

The PIA, along with local, state, and federal authorities, prevented a terrorist plot aimed at Trinton's historic Sky Tower. The skyscraper was the planned target of a massive terror attack, utilizing Thermite to weaken the building's support so that they could bring the building down with a large B787 Dreamliner. The thermite was in the process of being placed by maintenance workers in the building when they were surrounded and arrested by police forces. The arrests wouldn't have been possible without valuable information provided by PIA agents working inside the cell. The group, known across the country as APANT, is a terror organization aimed at undermining and destroying our government, claiming it to be an 'evil and vile entity bent on global domination and suppressing the freedom of its people.' The organization has made more and more threats against National Security in the last 3 months.

Perhaps the biggest question of the whole ordeal, where did they get the Thermite? Thermite is a well kept incendiary material with unique properties, used only by the Pantorran Military and in industry. The PIA is currently investigating what it would only say as "several individuals within the Pantorran Airforce" who are expected to be collaborating with the terrorists. The group, estimated at nearly 1,200 members strong, considers itself a revolutionary order meant to bring what it considers freedom to Pantorrum. The PIA has insisted that APANT is a small group that presents no serious threat to national security, saying they have eye and ear's everywhere and that we are safe.

Despite these statements, many citizens have showed serious concerns on the matter. The fear of a major attack on civilian targets has driven many Pantorran's into action, petitioning the government to take military action against a growing cell in a first world nation.

William Pearce Re-Elected in Landslide

President Pearce won a colossal victory in last week's Presidential Elections, securing an impressive 53% of the vote. It marks the first election in 21 years that any candidate has actually achieved a majority of all votes cast with 4 candidates on the ballot. The nearest competitor, Derek William's, secured only 33% of the vote. Voter turnout was higher than average, as energized Conservatives showed out in huge numbers. 68% of all registered Conservatives voted in the election. The President also won a more independent voters than any other candidate, all but guaranteeing his victory in what has long been a predicted election.

Pearce secured a 2nd term, guaranteeing another 3 years of Conservative Party rule in the Executive Branch. His victory was no the only one for Conservatives, however. They also took 4 Senate Seats and 35 House Seats, giving them 27 and 235 respectively. That's a 52% Senate Majority, and a 53% Majority in the House. This is the first time in over 39 years that a party has controlled an outright majority, and the first time in 84 years that a party has held a Majority in both houses of Congress. If we go further, this is the first time in 96 years that any party has controlled the Presidency and both houses of Congress. The historic election represents what many call a 'Conservative Revolution', which comes on the heels of what is about to become an Economic Boom, fueled by several new trade agreements and the severing of corporate tax rates.

Oil Prices Sky High

Prices at the pump jumped again this weekend, reaching a new historical high at P$ 2.91 a gallon. Diesel rose to over P$ 3.00 a gallon for the first time in history, too, settling at P$ 3.11. The sudden jump alarmed many officials at the Department of Commerce, who said that the nations Oil Supply is at an all time high. Ina free flowing market, the massive Surplus in Oil would drive prices down. The inverse affect, according to the Chairman of the Social Union Party, a party that advocates for Socialism, is caused by Liquiplex. The massive company controls virtually all Oil Production and Oil Distribution in Pantorrum. It is, by Market Capitalization, one of the worlds largest companies by far. It holds more land than the Federal Government and employee's more people than live in the City of Alton. It's Gross Annual Income surpasses P$ 900 Billion globally, meaning it may actually be the biggest and most powerful company in the world. Unfortunately, no statistic exists on that.

Some have raised questions about how big the company is, and they're now calling on the President and Congress to break up Liquiplex into 3 smaller companies, as to allow room for smaller Oil Producers to breath in the market and to brew competition. They've also called for the Federal Government's P$ 0.25 Gas Tax at the pump, to help bring immediate price decreases. Some are even demanding that a cap of P$ 2.00 per gallon be set on Gasoline Prices. The last demand, according to the Chairman of the House Commerce Committee, will never see the light of day. However, he has promised to work on a bill to repeal the Gas Tax.

As for breaking up Liquiplex, the issue may find itself in the Supreme Court next week. Months of legal battles and massive public outcry since July have elevated the case through the lower courts all the way to the top. The Chief Justice has not said whether or not they will take on the case, which sues Liquiplex for gouging prices and violating Anti-trust and Anti-Monopoly laws. The plantiff, a former Social Union Senator, is requesting that the company be broken apart and forced to comply with federal monopoly laws. In June, the 114th District Court ruled in favor of Liquiplex, and the Senator appealed the decision to the 2nd Circuit Court. When the 2nd Circuit Court also ruled in favor of Liquiplex after a remarkably short trial, the Senator appealed the case yet again, which the Supreme Court has yet to accept.

Should Liquiplex meet with a bitter end, 3 large but controllable companies would be created in its wake, leaving a market wide open for competition and growth from smaller, lesser known oil companies. Given the decisions of the 114th District Court and the 2nd Circuit Court, the Supreme Court is unlikely to see the case any differently. For now, it would seem we are stuck with high prices from Liquiplex that we have no choice but to pay. The Company truly has grown so large that it can no longer be controlled by the Federal Government. Or can it? That remains to be seen.

PARTIES DIVIDED OVER THE STATE OF THE NEPTORIAN CONTINENT FOLLOWING CALVA MILITARY DISPLAY

Image
Foreign Affairs Minister Frank Landon responded to reporters following remarks on the current state of the Neptorian continent

CAPE PERUSIA - Major political parties were extremely divided in their response to questions regarding the state of the Neptorian continent following a recent military display by the nation of Calva. The divide in reaction to the actions of Calva highlight the growing partisanship between the Federalists and Whigs within the country.

The Federalist Party and the Palmer Ministry has attempted to alleviate the concerns of New Toolans across the country over the recent military display. Foreign Affairs Minister Frank Landon responded to the recent actions at his weekly press conference by highlighting the fact that the Calvan government made efforts to begin efforts towards decommissioning their chemical warhead ICBMs and urged calm for those arguing that New Toola should respond through a military display of their own. Prime Minister Harold Palmer also commented on the recent actions and similarly urged calm while also expressing his wishes to seek an open dialogue with the Calvan government to establish official relations and to potentially address the preservation of Neptoria's environment and other issues that face the continent as a whole.

The Whig Party has overwhelmingly responded negatively to the recent efforts to "intimidate" the people of New Toola. Whig Party Leader and Leader of the Opposition David Watson condemned the Calvan government over their recent military display and called upon the Palmer Ministry to respond with a military display of its own. The conservative wing of the party was even harsher in its criticism of the recent military display with Shadow State Minister Beverly Vane and Shadow Defense Minister Edward Prescott releasing a joint-statement calling upon the Palmer Ministry to seek the support of the international community in condemning the recent actions by Calva and potential sanctions if aggressive posturing continues.

The populace of New Toola has shown a collective distrust of Calva in recent polling but polling regarding how the government should respond has fallen mostly on party lines. Registered Federalist polled show that 87% support the response by the Palmer Ministry while registered Whigs show extensive opposition with 92% in opposition to the government's response. Whigs divided further between those that support David Watson and the liberal wing of the party with 52% of registered Whigs supporting his statement and 48% favoring the statements made by members of the conservative wing of the party.

An issue that both sides showed strong support for, despite the divided polling on the response to the military display, was the issue of defense spending. New Toolans in general have been skeptical of recent efforts by the Palmer Ministry to shave off what they refer to as excessive expenditures within the defense budget. Support for increasing the defense budget and the production of new missile systems increased from 47% to 66% following the military display in Calva. The Palmer Ministry has yet to comment on the issue of the defense budget but Whigs have increasingly begun to pressure the government to address the issue within the Representative Assembly through harsh critiques of the defense cuts undertaken by the government.

Vesvaian Homeland Union (VHU) Wins General Election, Ruling Party Retains Majority

Image

The results are in. The majority-holding Vesvaian Homeland Union (VHU) party secures its position as the ruling party in Vesvai. Victory was arguably achieved by a landslide. VHU earned 56% of the vote cross-country. Unsurprisingly, the biggest rival of VHU was the Alliance for Independent Tomorrow (AIT) opposition coalition and came in second with 32% of the vote. Other parties in the race collectively earned 12%. The entire controversial, passionate and scandalous campaign was a large stand-off between VHU and AIT mostly. It is no surprise that the final confrontation at the ballot box would have them at the forefront. In the end, VHU came out victorious, even with all the talk of the ruling party loosing voter confidence and people’s support. The voter turnout is said to have been the biggest in a decade. The Governor–General of Vesvai congratulated VHU with victory and did not hide his personal sympathies towards the party. He also once again called for national unity. PM Matthew Praeterit celebrated victory for his party and said that he would remain in the position as the Prime Minister of Vesvai. PM also stated firmly that Vesvai would continue heading in the same course it has chosen.

First Post-Election Law: Vesvai Leaves Defunct WeSTO, Focuses Entirely On ROVAA

Hours after the election results were announced, the Parliament had held its first new session. Rather than celebrating and calling it a night, the government decided to pass a new resolution instead. It was said to be a unique way to celebrate victory of the Vesvaian Homeland Union (VHU). Passing a new resolution symbolically showed that VHU was still active, still in control and that the government loved its job. But the symbolic inaugural resolution was not just any regular or small law. Vesvai’s government decided to settle a dilemma that has been an elephant in the room for Vesvai for quite some time now. The resolution concerned Vesvai’s membership in WeSTO.

WeSTO officially remains existing as an organization, but practically does not function anymore. PM Matthew Praeterit called it an unfortunately dead organization and said that other members, including founder Aznazia, are mostly in agreement with this. The government’s position is that Vesvai should not be stretching itself thin or wasting resources by being in a defunct organization. That is the case especially when there is a functional organization like ROVAA where all the focus should be going. Because of that, the government said that Vesvai should leave WeSTO. The Parliament authorized withdrawal process. The fact another departure, this time from Vesvai, might be one of the nails in the coffin of WeSTO and that was recognized. Last minute hopefuls in the government said that maybe it was a bad idea because WeSTO was one of several organizations making Vesvai closer to its allies. Leaving WeSTO might be misinterpreted as a hostile step. PM Praeterit repeated that even the founding member Aznazia agreed that WeSTO was factually over. PM said that Vesvai is in constant dialogue with allies and they know what Vesvai’s brotherly intentions are. WeSTO served its purpose and in case Vesvai’s withdrawal will lead to WeSTO’s full collapse, Vesvai will do everything to instead focus on ROVAA. A foreign policy priority for the government will be to make sure how to make that organization stronger and best it could be.

Oddly enough, the parliamentary session where WeSTO withdrawal was decided on, was not attended by members of the Alliance for Independent Tomorrow. They had once again decided to boycott the session. Members of other parties that lost the election, also did not show up. PM Praeterit called the move by AIT irresponsible, because the coalition won 32% and now play a big role in the Parliament. It was also seen as out of character for the Opposition. The government imagined that the opposition would be enthusiastic about a vote to leave a Dogmanan-centered organization that they did not support joining. With WeSTO out of the picture, Vesvai still remains a proud member of ROVAA and the Rhodeve Commonwealth.

Nationalist and anti-nationalist protesters in Janza.

Janza, Chemensia- Chemensia's far-right powerhouse, the National Fascist Party, are currently holding a rally to protest violence against the NFP. Former Minister Sendiko Teskavic was found dead in his car last week. Since then, the many Tujevic supporters held small protests against the killing. The rally was started by General Nikola Popovic and NFP leader Marko Ljujizanocic. Popovic was the first to give a speech on the killing. "I knew Sendiko, I knew him well. The man loved his people, his country, and his god. This man was not evil, he was not the incarnation of death. He was a man like you and I." He spoke out against of the rising hatred towards the NFP as the party has began a slow growth since the election. "We are not killers, we are patriots, we are nationalists. We believe in the protection of the Chemensian people and the protection of Christianity from outside threats who seek to murder and wipe us off the face of Sunalaya. We may have so-called "extreme views", but they are just ideas. If we are not allowed to think what we want, it leads to tyranny. Tyranny is something nobody in Chemensia wants, as we have experienced it's terror, from the killing on non-monarchists under King Radko II and to the mass suppression of freedoms with Premier Borovic." A group of activist anti-nationalist protesters also showed up, but Janza and Capitol Police were able to keep them away from all except one confrontation, where 19 people were injured, including 2 police officers. The rally is supposed to end at midnight. Janza police say that their riot control units have been able to stop violence. CNNN will keep you updated on any development at the rally.

Tropical Storm Joshua has gained significant strength since yesterday afternoon when the Pantorran Weather Service clocked in its 1 minute sustained wind speeds at 51 miles per hour. As of 5:00 pm today, Tropical Storm Joshua now has sustained winds of 68 miles per hour and it has moved well over 100 miles. The quickly growing system is predicted by 7 out of 10 models from various firms and agencies to strike the central region of Pantorrum's South Western shoreline. In all, 9 out of 10 models predict the storm will hit Pantorrum, with one outlier predicting it will move west and hit Corentia's Northern shore. The bright red line represents PSW's prediction, which is mostly supported by several other models.
The storm, should it follow the PSW Projection, will make landfall as a Category 3 Hurricane, wrecking colossal damage to the coastal area. The Secretary of State had to correct her cost projection yesterday, with the storm now predicted to make landfall in a much more densely populated area than was previously expected. The State Department now predicts that damaged will be between 45 and 60 billion Pantorran Dollars. PEMA gave us hope that the storm could still change course. Beyond 5 days, the margin of error in their predictions grows significantly. It is challenging to predict where a storm will make landfall 7 days before it arrives. Regardless, they are still fairly certain that the storm will hit somewhere in Pantorrum, at least as a Category 2 storm.
The storm has already begun to take beautiful but terrifying form as it spirals toward our shores. From space, one can see its small but clearly defined eye. In the coming days, forecasters say the storm will become much larger and develop a more distinguishable eye. The pressure inside the eye of the storm has already reached 994 mBar. "We will continue to monitor the storm closesly," said PEMA Director Thomas Kain. "This weather system will develop into a catastrophic hurricane eventually, and our response will depend on where it turns in the next 3 days. If it turns toward us, the President has made clear that he will declare a state of emergency and order the evacuation of the costal region in its path 4 days in advance." We will keep you posted on the storm.

APANT Strikes in Alton

Last night 12 masked gunman performed 3 different attacks simultaneously across the city of Alton. They wore what appeared to be black, almost SWAT like armor as they paraded down the streets. They were armed with AR-15's and M-9 Pistols. They carried grenades and drove in 2 black Humvee's, likely the same Humvee's that disappeared from Fort Callahan last month. On their shoulder, a patch with a flaming Pantorran Flag and 5 bold letters spread across the bottom: APANT.
In all, the horrifying assault on innocent civilians and police forces claimed 76 lives across the city. Police struggled to respond to 3 mass shootings in various locations across the city, dispatching SWAT teams and Patrolmen who engaged the APANT forces. At first it seemed as if the heavily armed soldiers intended on escaping with their lives, but the suicidal nature of their mission was revealed when one of the Humvee's rammed into a SWAT van, exploding in a fiery ball of flame. The shoot out would continue well into the night, the police eventually killing the remaining APANT gunmen.
The engagement with police forces and the terror that surged through the countries 12th largest city shook the President into action. The first major attack by APANT, even if successful by their standards, did not go without a response. The President spoke strongly on the issue, promising the people of Alton Justice and military action against the domestic terror organization. he delivered an address to the nation this morning.
"These attacks are horrific. APANT stepped on the line when they attempted to take action against the city of Trinton. Now, firing on innocent civilians and engaging in what can only be called battle with police forces is well beyond that line. The men, women, and children killed in Alton last night will be avenged. We will not stop until we've hunted every last member down and chased them to the very gates of hell. I will use every means of security to find and eliminate any threat to the good people of this country, I promise you that. I will deploy the Army to various cities around the country, and employee PIA information resources to locate and destroy APANT facilities. I have already spoken with Congress about authorizing combat drone usage in Pantorran Airspace, and as of now we are classifying all APANT members and supporters as non-citizen combatants. The time for terror is over, Justice will be served."

We've already seen mobilization as the Army deployed elements of the 32nd Infantry Division into Alton shortly before sunrise. 900 personnel entered the city and began collaborating with police forces to locate the local cell. We will continue to bring updates on this story whenever a change occurs.
I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again- Etienne de Grellet du Mabillier

Rapid Expansion Of High Speed Rail- Where And When
(OOC: I was gonna make a map, but then I got lazy and tired, so that never happened)
High speed rail is the latest trend in the evolution of rail transport, with many nations, including Belantica, are constantly expanding and improving their systems. In Belantica's case, the most recent expansion was to continue the Ventura Line, currently running between Albany City and Elkingen and New Albany. This line is expected to be fully completed and in operation by late 2018, transporting passengers between the two cities at speeds of 200+ MPH, while costing less than flying the same route. In fact, many transport experts and analysts say that the high speed train will take the same amount of time as flying when you factor in waiting times and the trip to and from the airports. This of course, give the train a huge advantage, as instead of traveling outside of cities to get to the airports, the trains go directly from city center, to city center. Another advantage is that the trains will have less delaying factors, as these will adhere to Belantic Railway Group's strict timetable, which operates on intervals of 30 seconds to ensure timeliness. But the Ventura Line is not only one getting expanded, as the proposed Highland Line between Montego and Fairton, and the Shin Nippon Line between Fairton and Niishiba-Sutsume, have also received the green light from BR and the MOT to begin construction, linking the cities to the ever-expanding high-speed rail network. It is estimated that the Highland Line will be completed in 2025, and the Shin Nippon Line in 2023, as several tunnels and viaducts have to be constructed according to the standards set by BR for high-speed trains. As for the proposed First Republic Line running between Center City and Fairton, it is still up for vote, but inside sources say that this line will also be approved for construction. Currently BR, under it's regional subdivision companies, operates a total of 5 high-speed lines, all of which have been proven successful and by far, the safest way to travel in Belantica, as BR staff is rigorously trained to make sure operations are safe, on time, and enjoyable. There is still no words from BR or BR West about expanding high-speed rail to the western states, as certain political and demographic factors are not in favor of such a rail system, but BR West says that in the meantime, they will attempt to start offering more conventional express train services (Max. speed of 125 MPH) to help improve transport in those regions.

Combined Naval-Air Drills Date Set: October 2nd
Today, the Ministry of Defense announced that on October 2nd, the RBN and the UQAF will be coordinating naval and air exercises in southern and western waters around Belantica. According to the press release, the purpose of these exercises to primarily deter any cartel activity, as well as to make sure that both forces can respond to national threats in a timely and organized fashion. This is to show that Belantica will not tolerate it's sovereignty and security to be jeopardized by any opposing force, as well as to put pressure on cartels that the navy will start to hunt down their vessels to eventually stamp out their activities within the Belantic Sea. As per USA Resolution 104, various representatives from around the world the USAPK will be observing these exercises, as it involves roughly 17,000 pilots and sailors in total. This exerciser is also looking for ways to collect data for the next generation of military aircraft and watercraft, citing that "in a world that's constantly evolving in therms of technology, we have to keep up or risk falling behind, which in a military sense, is a risk we can't afford in these uncertain times". The exercises will last 48 hours, afterwards, the data collected will be analyzed by the MoD to help determine some of it's future needs.

The Crown Stolen!

Image
Queen Diana's Royal Crown

This night, there was a break-in at the Kingstown Musée de la Royauté, or the Kingstown Royal Museum. The museum, which houses artifacts from around the world has a vast collection to be worth somewhere in the hundreds of millions of Rhodes. But, even with so many jewels, and valuables to choose from, the only thing so far discovered to have been taken is the present Falah no Telah; the current crown of the monarch. The crown, made from the bark of the Soul Tree, located in the Imperial Palace, and the symbolic heart of Rhodevus, also contains rare green opals from the Ile du Fleurs. The full crown has an estimated worth of at minimum 350,000 NSD.

The crown itself has been on display in the Kingstown Royal Museum for nearly a year while Queen Diana has been on maternity leave. It is the only one of its kind, as each reigning monarch receives their own crown, with the previous one having its jewels removed and the wood burned, upon the death of the monarch.

At this time, there is very little evidence of whom might have stolen this precious item, aside from a single security camera which had not been deactivated by the thief prior to the robbery. It is yet unclear if the man left this singular camera on, on purpose or not. What can be seen from the video is that the man stands roughly 5 feet 7 inches, has dark brown or black hair, is Caucasian and has no beard. At the time, he wore dark blue pants and a dark blue shirt which contained the flag of Pantorrum. Again, it still remains uncertain whether or not this man is from Pantorrum or not.

The police and the royal guard have closed off the entire museum and are preparing for a long documentation of every item in the museum, with the help of the museum curators and staff.

"This theft was a very well-planned and well-coordinated attack on Rhodevus and its royalty. Of all the items to steal, this one alone has been taken. We in the Kingstown Police will be working in tandem with the Royal Guard and the Kingstown Royal Museum staff to find out if anything else has been taken. If so, then we can work on discovering a pattern to the items. If not, then we will work with what information is available to us. Until such a time that we have collected all the evidence that we can from the crime scene and surrounding area, the Kingstown Royal Museum will be closed." Said Captain John Ahab from the Kingstown Police Force.

"This is the first robbery in over 50 years for this museum. We have always kept a close and watchful eye on all artifacts; modern and ancient alike, to ensure their safety. This break-in, which may have been either a solo-act or one done by a highly-trained team shows our defensive weakpoints. Following the investigations by the police and royal guard, we will be conducting our own to find holes in our systems, and sharing the fixes and updated security measures with other prominent museums around Rhodevus and the world." Said Dr. Mara Swing, the lead curator for the Kingstown Royal Museum.

As of yet, there has been no named witnesses or suspects.

Post-Election Protests In Vesvai

Image

Vesvai is once again in protest. In the aftermath of the general election, the city streets have seen the growth in demonstrations and protest marches. According to unofficial sources, the number of participants ranges from thousands to millions. Official sources have yet to count and report the number of protesters. That is because the protests are a very fresh development, starting overnight and continuing now. The protests are happening not just in the capital, but also in major cities around Vesvai. The reason for the protests is the result of Vesvai’s general election. The election was won by the Vesvaian Homeland Union (VHU) party led by PM Matthew Praeterit. VHU held the majority before and again remains the largest party in the Parliament after the election. VHU holds the majority, while Matthew Praeterit remains Prime Minister. The Alliance for Independent Tomorrow (AIT) opposition coalition made significant gains, but is still secondary to VHU. Other parties had mixed success. But the demonstrators believe that the general election results have been rigged, voter fraud was involved and results were simply made up.

Currently the theory is that AIT has rallied up the protests, being power-hungry and dissatisfied with legitimate defeat. The supporters of AIT organized protests before during the campaign, so it would not be surprising that they are responsible once again. The government suspected in advance that AIT had planned unrest in case they lost the election and suspicions proved to be legit. What is more, leaders and members of AIT were later seen marching in the crowds along with the protesters. They did not even try to hide their presence and participation. After this information was found out, PM Matthew Praeterit said: “Now I know why they were not present in the last parliamentary session. We all found that odd, because we thought that the opposition would be interested in what we were voting on. But they declared boycott once again. Now it is clear that there was no boycott. They were busy orchestrating a new crisis in our country. What a shame.” But the theory that AIT is entirely responsible for the protest is disputed by one fact. The protests also involve the participation of other parties in the election, ones that collectively gathered 12% of the vote. The supporters of those parties are marching in the crowds. Members of those parties are also marching in the crowds, just like members of AIT. In fact, other parties were also not present in the last parliamentary session like AIT, but the reason was not disclosed. The government is not surprised about that too, because the defeated competitors have come together to hinder and blackmail VHU. AIT is still seen as the driving force behind the scheme, while other parties serve as sidekicks.

The Governor–General of Vesvai called for national unity yet again and warned opposing political leaders to respect Vesvai’s democracy. PM Matthew Praeterit called on VHU’s opponents to accept the reality, while also calling for national unity. The Head of the Government said that there should be no worries about what is happening right now: “We knew that this was going to happen from the start. It is natural in every democratic country. One party or leader wins and the defeated ones rally supporters to protest. They think that it might somehow help them bend things their way. But we have law, we have a constitution and we have a system. The election happened, the results are fair and clear, and that’s the end of it. The allegations of electoral fraud have no proof and unless that proof is found, things will be as the voters decided. That proof will not be found because it does not exist. Vesvai’s election are always fair. In this post-election time we have law enforcement to keep things under control and to help avoid banditism. The demonstrators will get their anger out of their system, the politicians will see that their scheme is not working and everyone will quietly move on with their lives. Just give it time. What we should focus on now is how to make Vesvai further prosper. Also, as the people of the Commonwealth, we must not ignore the news that Falah no Telah was stolen from the Kingstown Royal Museum.”

VHU-led government says that protester numbers being from thousands to millions are propaganda of the opposition. Until official state sources report the number, opposition-spread information should not be taken seriously. Meanwhile, the protesters say that they are not quitting, but promised that they would not resort to violence. The intention is to keep the protests peaceful as always. Now it is the responsibility of the authorities to not harm protesters either. What is also interesting is that the current protests in Vesvai contain not just anti-VHU and electoral fraud rhetoric, but also strong nationalist, pro-Corentian and pro-MDAA sentiment.

Government Orders Electoral Investigation To Satisfy Protesters, Forbids Outside Involvement

The developing unrest in Vesvai has forced the VHU-led government to give into protester pressure after all. PM Matthew Praeterit announced that Vesvai’s electoral commission, the Supreme Court and other institutions have been ordered by the government to look into electoral fraud claims. PM spoke at the Parliament on this: “The earlier we settle this the better. We know that our government is in the right, but the opposition will hold on to their claims no matter what. We know we have nothing to hide, so if we prove it on an official level, we will disarm the opposition and end this. Also, if we settle this problem on our own with our own investigation, then outside forces and organizations won't have a reason to intervene. Even if there is no faith in our investigation and someone will decide to meddle, I say this now. Vesvai will not allow any observers, investigators or other personnel into our country, without our permission. That applies to the USA as well, not to mention other countries. We will exercise our right to close borders and expel unwanted guests. Vesvai will take care of everything on its own.”

The growing pragmatism of the government is surprising Vesvai’s citizens. VHU has remained tough on its course, but pressure is effecting the ruling party. Every now and then, they had made steps in the opposite direction to their program. It happened in the past, it happened during the campaign, it has happened now. Protesters have said that they will not be taking this gesture as a bone thrown to them. Demonstrations will continue cross-country throughout the investigation and beyond. AIT member and opposition politician gave his response from a protesting crowd. He spoke with independent journalists out of concerns of media censorship that could happen: “This investigation announcement is nothing. We already know what is going to happen. The colonial and loyalist government will make it look as if they gave into people's demands and launched this investigation. And you know what is going to happen? It will be work in progress for an eternity. Even if they will be forced to conclude it, they will just present us with a result they had made up. We will have no way to prove it. So yeah, we disregard this investigation because it is a facade. The only thing we agree with the government on, is that outside organizations and countries should stay out. Vesvai will deal with this on our own. The people will manage this uprising. We will not stop protesting, we are calm, we are unarmed. We will not give the government a legit reason to crack down on us.”

The Bohin Orders Molenston to remove Commonwealth and Allied Soldiers

In the recent round of hopeful peace talks between the Bohi and Malesti leadership, the Bohinian government has issued an ultimatum to their counterparts in Molenston. The ultimatum declared 4 main clauses:

  • Pass new legislation banning nation and international companies from building dams on the Sivier
  • Grant full custody of the Bauer Basin to The Bohin, along with its salt mining rights
  • Dismantle at minimum 1 Commonwealth military base and halve the number of active Commonwealth soldiers in the country
  • Force all allied ships to leave Molenston's territorial and fishing-waters

Other points to mention in the ultimatum regarded the size and strength of the Molenstoni military along their shared border, as well as oil drilling and fishing rights along their maritime border.

At present, Molenston has agreed to the first two demands and has stated that they would discuss the fourth demand. They did publicly state that no COmmonwealth bases will be dismantled, nor would they move their military from the Molenstoni-Bohi border until this is also done by the Bohin. As for drilling and fishing rights, Chieftain Bwubba told the press that many new rights and privileges were granted to The Bohin in 2016 during the peace talks to end the stale-mate and cold-war between the countries which had begun in the 60s.

Creperia adopts new Constitution: Provisional Assembly takes over government

Creperian referendum has said yes to a new Constitution, snap elections to be organized

Image

Creperians have said yes to a new Constitution. The referendum has passed with 62.17% being in favor, while 26.43% voted against and 11.4% were undecided. A decent turnout was registered. The majority of the National Assembly and supporters of the new Constitution rejoiced, while President Alcc Laēta and opponents were less enthusiastic. Still, they had accepted reality and were not too bothered by the transforming outcome. The new Constitution would change Creperia from a presidential republic to a parliamentary republic. The new system is presented as more democratic and decent for a federal country like Creperia. After the referendum’s result, the National Assembly voted to adopt the new Constitution and President Laēta later gave his approval and recognition of the new Constitution. Following that historical procedure, the President then dissolved the National Assembly, declared his own resignation and then proclaimed the Third Federal Republic of Creperia. Power over the country was then turned over to the Provisional Assembly. Former Creperian President Ress Fēlicit, who enjoyed a good reputation during his rule, became the Chairman of the Provisional Assembly. Snap elections were announced to be on the horizon for a new government. President and Parliament would be elected separately from now on. Many of the same officials from the National Assembly had already confirmed that they would be joining the race. All major parties and new parties will join the parliamentary race, while also promoting their candidates for the separate presidential race. Former President, Current Chairman Ress Fēlicit said he was considering to run for President again, because he is still allowed 1 term. Freshly-resigned President Alcc Laēta also considers running, also eligible for 1 more term. Former President Jerr Dēlecia is undecided, but interested. The upcoming races for for President and Parliament are attracting new faces, old faces, have many former presidential hopefuls, present-day parliamentarians, former Presidents, former parliamentarians, other politicians and other social figures expressing interest. Participants for both races are already planning their campaigns, which predicts interesting Creperian elections.

Sunrisia Ends Lethal Support For Azovskayan Federation Forces, Konetyan Forces And Pergen Confederation Forces, But It Might Not Be Forever

Sunrisia's Minister of Security Armăs Fórtídâ has laid out recent military moves and developments in a press briefing. This comes in the aftermath of President Nóv Fáustîtár and the Convet deciding to end active military support to Federation rebel forces in Azovskaya, Konetyan forces and Confederation forces in Pergen, having concluded that the situation has now changed and requires a different approach. However, the government emphasized that Sunrisia has not ended military support forever and it might be relaunched, if the situation changes and there is a necessity. The National Defense Council has approved of this strategy, which the President had consulted th Council on, before taking the decision with legislative bodies like the Convet. Minister Fórtídâ has stated the following:

We have concluded that the situation in Azovskaya, Konetya and Pergen has changed from when we had originally launched our military support to particular forces in these countries. We haven't been hearing new developments from Azovskaya, so we have concluded that the active state of civil war has ended in that country, once the Konetyan situation had reached the conclusion that it did. There does not seem to be an active confrontation hapenning between NVRSKSO and pro-Federation forces in larger Azovskaya anymore and the loyalists of the Federation have seemingly concentrated themselves within Konetya. In that case, we do not want to pour gasoline into a conflict that had cooled off by trying to encourage an uprising in larger Azovskaya. As it currently stands, the illegal NVRSKSO junta of the Azovskayan Union is victorious and in power. Their plans to annex Azovskaya into Ophioneus will likely prevail and there's not much we can do right now. However, in case the Azovskayan people do decide to rise up to not only defend their democracy, but their statehood, they can look to Sunrisia for help. As I have emphasized, our support does not end forever. For now, the Sunrisian government is preparing individual sanctions on NVRSKSO, but that is something that the Department of International Relations will talk more in detail about.

In terms of the Konetyan situation that I had already briefly mentioned, it might remain ambiguous, but de facto it's resolved. Peace treaty might not have been signed and NVRSKSO hasn’t offered recognition to Konetya as an independent state, but there is a cease-fire and the Union forces are no longer advancing. Attempts were made by NVRSKSO to sabotage the Konetyan election, but ultimately the election has successfully taken place and Konetya is in the process of forming a government. Now, talks are taking place about rebuilding Konetya. During Konetya’s independence struggle, Sunrisia has also provided lethal support to Konetyans and continued to provide it after the Union forces stopped advancing, in order to strengthen Konetya’s defense capabilities. True, we had limited access channels because of the USA peacekeeping mission, but our necessary tech had managed to reach Konetya through other access points. Now, Konetya can start thinking about recovery and statehood. In case there will be a need for more military help, Sunrisia can be counted on and defense assurance for Konetya from a resumed NVRSKSO offensive is also something that we will be discussing with our allies like Pantorrum. Right now, in this calm moment, we will be taking an opportunity to think about a different type of help to Konetya and that is recovery. The humanitarian role of the Sunrisian military is an option. That is also something that the Department of International Relations and the administration spokespeople will tell you more about. Many options are being explored and in case the Sunrisian Defense Force will somehow be involved in the rehabilitation by the government’s decision, then it is something that I will be able to discuss more in detail with all the media.

In Pergen, the civil war has also seemingly cooled down. We think that the Pergen Force (PERFOR) peacekeeping contingent did contribute to that positive development. Their mandate has not yet ended and they will continue working. Traditionally, a peacekeeping force should be neutral and since Sunrisia partakes in the Pergen Force, our country must end support to one of the warring parties, to solidify Sunrisia’s neutral status. It would give the Pergen Force more legitimacy in accordance with international norms of what a peacekeeping force should be like. The confrontation in Pergen between the warring parties is not active anymore, so we hope that Sunrisia can from now on focus entirely on the peacekeeping efforts of the Pergen Force.

In other news:

  • Department of International Relations expresses Sunrisian relief that the constitutional crisis in Creperia was peacefully resolved with a democratic outcome. Reforms strengthening democracy were welcomed in Aestin.

  • Fáustîtár administration hopes the people’s peaceful struggle in Vesvai will remain peaceful. Calls on the government to respect the right to protest and hopes for calm among the masses and the authorities.

  • Sunrisian officials suggest that the Trade Promotion Agreement with Vesvai should be reviewed again over rigged election allegations in that country.

  • Sunrisia has not ended financial donations to the USA, despite not being a member of the organization. Sunrisia works as an external partner of the USA, believing in the important role that the organization plays for global stability.

  • Sunrisian and Ederi intelligence conclude that Oculus terrorist group is no longer active and does not pose a threat to Edereon or internationally.

  • Sunrisian government says it is monitoring the climate situation and natural disasters around the world. Early precautions are in preparation, in case Sunrisia and neighbors are affected. Relief aid to already affected countries is being offered.

  • Can non-USA countries contribute to USA peacekeeping missions overseas?

  • Sunrisian political analyst: “The Pudikov government in Aznazia looked to Sunrisia after our government’s self-coup and establishment of the Second Republic, because Aznazia was one of the last traditional republics being left in the world. Sunrisia seemed to have transformed back into a traditional republic, so maybe they hoped for ideological solidarity and support? Maybe they got nostalgic for the handful of cooperative times we had historically? Whatever the case, I think our choice in course and foreign policy was the right one.

  • The Department of Security reaffirmed continued support for Dogmanan countries against local terrorism. Spokesperson states: “It is for humanitarian and security purposes and it is where we meet half-way.

  • Military official: “Too early to conclude if Ophioneus would not resume the geopolitical role of the USJR. We are on our watch.

  • President Nóv Fáustîtár demonstrates electric guitar skills in Ucinda, during a festival celebrating the city’s birthday. The President played 1 song with an alternative rock band on stage.

Sunrisia And Pantorrum Agree On Konetya’s Rehabilitation Efforts

Image

Sunrisian and Pantorran governments are in dialogue over how to rebuild and then provide security for the world’s newest sovereign state - Konetya. The Presidents are exchanging phone calls and using other communication channels, while defense ministries, foreign ministries, ambassadors and diplomats, as well as other government institutions are keeping up contact and planning the initiative together. President Nóv Fáustîtár said that Sunrisia is ready to provide funds and personnel to rebuild and rehabilitate Konetya. Following the initial stages of recovery, Sunrisia would then be ready to give financial aid to support the economy of Konetya. Minister of Security Armăs Fórtídâ said that Sunrisia and Pantorrum are agreeing on a defense mechanism for Konetya and early predictions hint that Konetya would be well protected. Meanwhile, the Convet announced that it has approved imposing individual sanctions on NVRSKSO and the bill was sent to the President for signing. The head of state said earlier that we would definitively sign the order for individual sanctions against the regime in Azovskaya, as an executive order or as a Convet resolution. The Speaker of the Convet said that the parliament would approve a Sunrisian recovery and support program for Konetya. In addition to our country, Pantorrum has recruited and engaged with other countries as well, that had offered to help rebuild Konetya.

Aznazia shifts attention to Neptoria tensions
By: Jamie Stern

UPDATED: 12 Pm September 11th

Aznazia formally condemned the military parade by Calva that acted as a show of force towards New Toola last week. The Minister of Defense; Samuel Thompson, stated that "Calva is inciting tension on the relatively peaceful continent. New Toola will continue to have Aznazia's support via economic and defense deals that have stretched back decades. However if Calva continues its provocation, then Aznazia may be forced to look into modifying our relations with Calva". The announcement was widely accepted by many Senators and members of the National Assembly who believe that Aznazia is on the receiving end of "saber-rattling" as nations begin to test Aznazian dedication to its allainces. Some military analysis's suggest that this move was a way for the Chancellor to give into the war-hawks of the Federal Party who have said that the Western Pacifica Ocean has been "deserted" in light of ROVAA drills near Vesvai.

This shift also comes as Chancellor Pudikov begins to wrap up his "Pivot to Corentia" with a speech given yesterday. "Aznazia has repaired and improved our ties with nearly every nation in Corentia besides Sunrisia. I still have a few more nations to speak to, but I am very confident that Aznazia and the nations of Corentia will come out of these deals and agreements stronger than before", said the Chancellor. Over the last few months, the Chancellor has delivered on his promises to reaffirm its agreements with nations like Belantica and forge new ties like in The Seven United. As a result of this relations blitz, Pudikov's average public approval rating has grown from 52% to 63% approval. Political analysis's attribute this to moderate Sapphire Pary votes finding him to be like former Chancellor Livington, who advocated for a more diplomatic approach to foreign relations. He has also seen an increase of support from the right-leaning central Liberty Party for his all round moderate approach to economic and foreign relations. On the other hand he has lost a large number of Bison Party voters who call him a "shadow" of his mother who founded the party on the principles of populism, isolationism and economic protectionism with low regulations.

PERFOR Concludes Mission, Begins Withdrawal

Image

The Department of Security has reported that the Sunrisian Defense Force has completed a number of successful humanitarian missions overseas, including that of the Pergen Force (PERFOR). The peacekeeping taskforce has concluded objectives and would now begin withdrawing. The decision came in the aftermath of a snap MDAA consultation called up by Sunrisia. A spokesperson for the Department of Security stated that there seemed to be consensus on the PERFOR question as well, but ultimately it will come down to member states to individually decide on the status of their forces. Whether everyone would be leaving or some would be staying for a longer PERFOR mandate, will be a sovereign choice, but it seems that MDAA members will likely be acting unilaterally once again and withdraw PERFOR fully together. The Department of Security confirmed that the Sunrisian government was informed of the status of PERFOR mission and achievements made, which is why the Fáustîtár administration had authorized the withdrawal of the Sunrisian peacekeeping contingent that worked under PERFOR flag.

Trade To Expand, Experts Caution Against Opening New Markets

An announcement from the Royal Economic Inquiry Board has outlined an ongoing effort to further expand international trade. It has revealed that the Government of Eikangaard is in trade talks with the nations of Rhodevus, Divergia, Capsland, and Umbrellya. It does not however outline any details of these talks, or what it may mean for Eikangaardi businesses.

This comes on the heels of a report compiled by a panel of independent financial experts, which cautioned against this rapid opening of trade. According to the report, they predict that increasing trade will actually result in a loss of approximately 200'000 jobs from the Eikangaardi economy in the first quarter due to increased competition. "Eikangaard's economy isn't organized to handle a massive shock to the system like this." Says Martin Strolbern, a professor of economics at the University of Vaastergaad. "Simply put, the rate at which these trade deals are made needs to slow down or stop altogether if our economy is going to take the strain." Other economists were far less forgiving of the plan, stating that the current trade deals need to be rescinded to avoid an impending economic crash that could leave thousands out of work.

The government has shown no signs of stopping these deals, and is set to follow through on the current negotiations globally. "We need this increase in trade to stimulate the economy and encourage growth." Said Nervan Ilstig, President of the Economic Inquiry Board. "We can no longer rely on our internal markets what with our growing population and our growing lack of employment opportunities. The trade won't stop, and it will provide greater opportunities to our people."
