Cool, definitely adds a big pro to starting at Cave 1 than. With that, I think I'd have to switch my support to starting at Cave 1, with an emphasis on getting supplies and reinforcements down to secure a supply line to, and establish the MOB at, Cave 2 as soon as it becomes possible to do so. While Cave 1 doesn't have the natural defenses of Cave 2, it is much more isolated and the area around it is so completely barren that enemy forces would have to traverse a large area with no cover whatsoever, leaving them extremely vulnerable to artillery and aerial attack. While having to largely rely on air support isn't ideal, the fact the Voeld is a barren planet means setting up proper supply lines is going to be critical to the survival of anyone stationed there, and Cave's 2 natural defenses, while helpful, won't be able to keep the clones from running out of ammunition or starving to death.
