New to NS Sports? Here are some tips for you.
(Shamelessly copied from the amazing intro to BoF LX hosted by Valladares & Eura)

First of all, if you are new to the NS Sports forum, you really should read the Guide to Sports Roleplaying. This guide presents you a general idea on what to do and how tournaments in NS Sports work. In case you have any additional questions, feel free to ask on the Discussion Thread (again, linked above) or send one of the hosts a telegram.

Now that you have already taken that step, you should start thinking in a roster for your team. A roster is -in its simplest form- a list of the 11 players in your starting lineup, their positions, manager/head coach, and also the players in your bench or reserves. Some participants often include some other information aimed at enriching the RPing experience and opportunities, for example, additional information on their players, coaching staff, their backgrounds, clubs, style of play, strengths and weaknesses and anything else deemed to be of interest or anything you want others to know about your team. There is no limit regarding the number of players you can include in your roster, and there's no gender- or species-based restriction of any sort, either, with several past World Cup champions and other established nations currently competing or having competed with all-male, all-female, mixed-gender teams, teams comprised by monks, and also teams made up of elves, sentient bears and ponies, among several others.

Next up, you may want to include a style modifier for your team in your roster. A style modifier is a number ranging from -5 to +5 which will be inputted into the scorinator and will also serve to give others an idea of your style of play. Teams with negative style modifiers tend to be more defence-focused and will concede (on average) fewer goals at the cost of having more trouble at scoring goals. On the other hand, if your team is more offence-focused, then you should choose a positive style mod. Teams that play offensively tend to score more goals on average...but also tend to concede more goals in return. For those of you who would rather a more balanced style, a neutral style mod of 0 is also available. Teams will also be assigned a style mod of 0 if they don't state a style modifier.

Okay, so you already have a list of players and have chosen a style mod for your team. Good. Now pay attention to this part, because this is one of the most important things to include in your roster as it will have an effect on your opponents' RPs. Ladies and gentlemen, now we present to you the RP Permissions Box:
Code: Select all
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes/No
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No

The box above will be the tool enabling you to tell your opponents what you are willing to allow them to do, as well as what you are not allowing them to do. Please copy and paste it somewhere into your roster indicating your preferences as well as any restrictions for every option. Now let's review the meaning of each of these options:

Choose my goalscorers allows your opponents to choose which player(s) score your team's goal(s), should they RP the match before you do. Almost everyone allows this option since the most common form of roleplay in this forum is the traditional match summary/report, and it would be really difficult to write one of those without identifying the goalscorers. Godmod scoring events enables your opponents to RP goals that are scored in an unrealistic way or not likely to happen in reality.

The RP injuries to my players option is pretty self-explanatory: it allows your opponents to injure your players. However, most participants who allow others to injure their players will also set restrictions on the severity and causes of those injuries, thus retaining some extent of control on how badly injured their player is and future consequences and impacts of that injury on their teams. Just like "Godmod scoring events" for unlikely/unrealistic goals, Godmod injuries to my players refers to your opponents RPing injuries on your players but caused in less common and/or unrealistic ways. This option is generally used for more drastic injuries than those of the standard injury option, ranging from rendering your players unable to play the remainder of the tournament, ending their careers, or even killing them. That causes this option to be restricted by most players.

Yellow cards and red cards are an important part of the game, as yellow cards are handed out to players who aren't following the rules of the game as a warning, with red cards being handed out either after a second yellow card or as a result of a particularly severe violation of the rules or unsportsmanlike behaviour. Those players that are shown a red card are sent off the field, forcing their team to continue the remainder of the match with less players. Basically, if you choose "yes" to any or both of those options, you are allowing your opponents to enact such disciplinary actions against your players in their RPs. However, you can also set limits on the number of those cards if your players are less prone to carrying out actions that cause them to be booked and/or sent off.

Finally, Godmod other events refers to other unrealistic and/or unlikely events not related with goals or injuries. This can include from severe weather conditions, events by fans in the stands, to the opening of a portal to another dimension at the center of the pitch in the middle of the match. There are several things that can fall into this option, therefore you might deem it appropriate to set some limits for your opponents.

Welcome to Spaam!

Image

Spaam was once a massive empire, but was destroyed in a cataclysmic war. The remnants escaped to a neighbouring region and refounded Spaam on three islands about a hundred years ago. Now a thriving, yet small, nation, it has started to make its mark on the multiversal community yet again, qualifying for the World Cup on its first try in almost two centuries. The Baptism of Fire will be held in four cities: the capital Paatukar, a thriving metropolis of over 4 million people in the north of the main island, Skaganes, a beautiful city on the south of the main island that lies on the great Lake Galaxy, Nilmenas, a city with elven influences in West Spaam, and Highbay, a small harbour city of around 800 thousand in East Spaam. Spaam itself is a cheerful nation that is passionate about its sport, with a proud elven and human heritage, though society has become more segregated, and very devout in its following of Margaret. As long as you follow the laws and respect the beliefs and customs of the people, you are sure to have a great time in Spaam.

Paatukar (Group A)

Paatukar is the capital of Spaam and its largest city, with over four million people calling it home. Situated on an isthmus, it has a large harbour to the East and a busy port to the west, and will be the first port of call for most people, whether they are coming in by boat or flying into Paatukar International Airport to the North of the city. All Group A games, the Group A vs B quarterfinal, Spoon semifinal and the third placed match, will take place at Paatukar Football Stadium, which is in the centre of the city, and within walking distance of the Royal Palace and the Paatukar Night Markets.

Where to stay: There are many hotels, most of which cater to international guests. The best and newest hotel is the Queen Oruzaadov Hotel, named after the late monarch, known for its opulent decoration and decadent restaurants.

What to see: The Royal Palace, home to the monarchy of the Disunited Kingdom of Spaam, the Spaamanian Parliament Building, Paatukar Harbour, and the Temple of Margaret, are all the best known sites in Paatukar. There is no lack to entertainment and sights in the heart of the nation.

What to eat: Paatukar is known for his multicultural and cosmopolitan cuisine. The Night Markets has food from all over the multiverse, served to you in street stalls from passionate cooks. The biggest hotels hold the best restaurants, each one specialising in a cuisine from another nation. The national dish and specialty of Paatukar is, however, waffles on waffles, which you can get at any local dining hall.

Image

Highbay (Group B)

Highbay is the biggest city in East Spaam, but has less than a million people. Famous for its harbour, the city revolves around it, including the stadium. Highbay Arena is actually on the water, and can seat up to 40 thousand people in the stands. The only big buildings in Highbay are on the water's edge, and the rest of the city sprawls out from it. Highbay is known for its quite traditional human Spaamanian people, and quite strong devotion to Margaret, small temples dotting the city. Its primary industry is fishing, which doubles as its favourite cuisine.

Where to stay: There are a number of bed and breakfasts just a little out of the city, and a number of small motels just back from the water, mainly catering for sailors. If you want comfort, you can stay in the Highbay Imperium, the main hotel in the city, or if you want flavour, you can try and find a room in a water-side inn.

What to see: The fish markets are an incredible sight in the early mornings, while there are some exquisite temples throughout the city, each trying to outdo each other with their fervent devotion.

What to eat: Seafood. Highbay does seafood well, and the chowder in black bread bowls along the waterside are the most authentic cuisine. Of course, you can get fish and chips pretty much anywhere in the city, each shop with its own special and unique sauce to accompany it.

Image

Nilmenas (Group C)

Nilmenas is the third biggest city in Spaam, home to over a million people, and has the highest pure Elven population in the country. It is known for its organic architecture, multicultural flavours and passion for sport. West Spaam is known for its welcoming and accepting population, with refugees tending to find its way to the southern city. Nilmenas Football Stadium is one of many sporting grounds throughout the city that cater for the many different sports played in West Spaam, and caters for fifty thousand spectators. If you and willing to embrace Elven and Spaamanian culture, just ask any local and they will be more than willing to give you (in their opinion) the best advice.

Where to stay: There are a number of unique hotels throughout Nilmenas, each reflecting a specific Elven subculture, or you could stay in someone's house, as quite a few families have put their hand up to host visitors to their city for the Baptism of Fire. Of course, if you want traditional, there are some beautiful tree houses to the South of the city.

What to see: Elven architecture, temples and art are everpresent in the city, so just walk around if you want an experience. If you are interested in magic, then take a stroll through Nilmenas University, where many wizards attend classes in advanced magic, or watch a game of Quidditch which is the most popular sport in West Spaam.

What to eat: Elven cuisine is known for its creative use of vegetarian produce and can be partaken in of the many communal food halls in the city, where the grandmothers and grandfathers come to cook for everyone. There are a number of inns known for its wizard patrons, that have quite exotic flavours if you enjoy that sort of thing. You can also walk down Church Street, and pick up a Flobberworm Fritter, the local delicacy.

Image

Skaganes (Group D)

Skaganes is the second biggest city in Spaam, situated on the South of the main island, in between the ocean and Lake Galaxy, a large inland lake. A fairly traditional city, it is known more for the beauty around it, than anything that stands out. Skaganes Stadium holds ninety thousand spectators and is the second biggest sporting ground in Spaam; it will also host the Group C vs D quarterfinal. Skaganes is sporting mad, and there is a heated rivalry between them and Paatukar, with the capital city usually having the advantage in everything except Quidditch.

Where to stay: Skaganes has a number of good hotels, but the guest houses on the lake are the best places to stay, with gorgeous scenery and comfortable accomodation. If you want traditional, then stay on a houseboat! Many captains will be happy to give up their homes during the Baptism of Fire.

What to see: If you came down from Paatukar via road, you would've gone past the mountains and Lake Galaxy, and know what you want to see. The pristine environment around the city is incredible, and Skaganians are proud of how they keep their surrounds. The other sight of note is the giant statue of Margaret on the waters-edge: at a hundred metres tall, it is the ultimate tribute to the cruel goddess of chance.

What to eat: Skaganians love their hearty, slow cooked meals, so try some stew with freshly cooked bread. You can find this both in street stalls and in food halls. To be truly authentic, ask for the 'Surprise Stew'. Just don't ask what's in it!

Welcome to Drawkland!

Image

Drawkland, despite being new to the realm of international sports, is still a rather old nation, and like the Spaam of old, is a truly huge Empire which stretches into the reaches of space. In its first foray into the World Cup Cycle, their team made 3rd place in Baptism of Fire 64, and managed to qualify for World Cup 77 on a last-matchday miracle. For this side, Drawkland will host using 4 of its famous cities, outside of the “Big 2” of Metropolon and Drawk City. These cities selected to host are Kayo, the territorial capital city on a small peninsula on the eastern reaches of Drawkland and around a large lake; Bellator, the territorial capital on the other side of the nation situated at the base of a larger peninsula in the plains; Cove Port, the large northern harbor city which is renowned for a colder climate and its tough citizens; and Archifel, the district capital of a large tropical archipelago off the southern coast which is known for its laid back atmosphere. Of course, mainland Drawkland is very large, encompassing a continent, and the host cities are referred to often as “The 4 Corners,” as they're the largest cities at each corner of the land. Thus, free transportation will be provided for teams who have to travel to another city for the knockout rounds. Drawkland’s citizens are full of national pride, and the love of music, physical activity, and food stems from this. And they strive to impress tourists, which means they'll be accommodating for almost all guests they meet.

Kayo (Group E)

Kayo, while only the 3rd largest city in Drawkland, and largest outside of the Iarocavian sprawl, is still home to many millions of people. Situated on an easterly peninsula bordering Queen's Lake, and surrounded by Kandar River, the city is the capital of Kanyoet, the western territory of Drawkland. The downtown area is famous for being a massive symmetrical circle cut into 12 divisions with a large and beautiful pink Castle in the center, and the surrounding sprawl is mainly geared towards the waterfronts and filled with friendly and/or sketchy people. All of Group E's matches will be held at Kanyo's Pitch, a large stadium which houses the Kayo Queens of the DLK and overlooks the lake on one side and downtown on the other. The exterior of the stadium was built to make it look like a castle, similar to the one gracing the center of the city itself. It will also host a Round of 16 match and the Grand Final of Baptism of Fire 65.

Where to stay: Being a major urban and suburban center of Drawkland, Kayo obviously has a multitude of high class, low class, futuristic, traditional, high rise, and single-story hotels. Really anything that suits one's fancy. However, if you really want to experience the city's culture, you could splurge and get a rental lake house for the tournament. We'd steer away from those creepy bed and breakfasts run by crazy cat ladies, though.

What to see: There's really no shortage of attractions in Kayo. However, the big ones would have to be the city center castle, some of which is open to tour, a skyscraper resort near the center of town, all the various sort of activities you'd expect to see at a tourist trap lake, and of course many museums and galleries. The most popular ones are the history, art, and history of art museums (all separate and unaffiliated of course). One of Drawkland's biggest animation studios also has their headquarters in town, which you could check out if you'd like.

What to eat: As both a large city and one with several harbors (on the lake and river) and near several harbors (the Oreme Ocean is not far), Kayo is filled with many cultures from around Sonnel. Thus, almost every food imaginable is within a decent drive. The locals, however, have a penchant for seafood. The most popular dish is shrimp or crab, served atop a heaping helping of pasta.

Image

Bellator (Group F)

Bellator is the 5th largest city in Drawkland and home to millions. It was borne in days past as a city where various tribes and eventually kingdoms would come to trade and as as hub for the occasional rogue rangers. A jewel of the western plains, Bellator is the largest city that's closest to the westmost point of Drawkland, being at the base of the peninsula which juts out in the Navis Ocean. While it doesn't have a massive downtown urban center, it sprawls for miles into the gentle golden plains, and more than a few rivers cross, combine, and cut away through the city limits. Hosting all of Group F's matches, the Pitch of the Plains also hosts the Bellator Riders in the regular season of the DLK. It's a monolithic bowl-style stadium which is known to be windy at times, as it's on the outer reaches of town where there's still untamed plains on the horizon (and also where there's a lot more space for parking). It also will host a Round of 16 match and the Fork Semifinal.

Where to stay: Being a hub for rural travellers since its inception, Bellator is no stranger to the bed and breakfast, as well as the quickstop motel with complimentary breakfast in the morning. Those joints are by far the most numerous, but you can still find a few higher-end hotels in the semi-urban area of the city. There's also a few more economic hotel choices towards the outskirts of town, especially around the stadium.

What to see: Bellator is known a lot for its horse culture, so the stables and equine competition centers scattered around town are a must-see. A lot of the natural beauty of Drawkland's west is within a day's travel, so the plains, the western mountains, even the deltas of the peninsular southern coast, are all places that would be great to see. Other tourist favorites include the downtown elevators which span across buildings and go several directions besides up and down, and the neighborhood which is mainly comprised of pyramid-shaped buildings.

What to eat: Being of the plains, dry carb-loaded foods like various sorts of bread are local specialties, and pretty much any sort of non-exotic meat is everywhere to be found. If you'd like, there's even some farms where you can get some Drawk meat (Of course, only ethically-sourced Lesser Drawk species, Grand Drawks have been and always will be off limits)!

Image

Archifel Capital (Group G)

Archifel is the name of a large-ish archipelago off the southern tip of Drawkland. Its main city, Archifel Capital, is the 18th largest in all of Drawkland, and is by far the largest city on all of the islands. It has its fair share of beaches and other tropical island must-haves, but it's mainly known for being the urban center of the islands, the more bustling side of the Archipelago which keep it ticking and keep businesses there. Still, to everyone else in the nation, it's still thought of as a tropical haven where everything is more laid back. Archifel doesn't have a professional soccer team in the Drawkian League, but they still constructed an all-purpose stadium awhile back for ... well, any purpose! Archifel Capital Stadium will play host to Group G's group stage matchups. It's a slightly smaller stadium (for Drawkian standards, that is - it still seats 50k), and its glass and light colored exterior is recognizable to many. It will also host a Round of 16 and Quarterfinal match.

Where to stay: Archifel is of course renowned for its tropical resorts, and if you can imagine that, many tourists will use this tournament as an excuse to stay at one. Of course, as a tropical tourist destination, it has its fair share of modern hotels, with pools and everything else a vacationing family would desire. Of course, you could rent a beach house on another island or even a secluded getaway, but while that might be more relaxing, it'd pose a challenge logistically to travel to matches.

What to see: Do we even need to say it? Beaches, resorts, ocean attractions, you name it! Archifel's dozen or so main isles and hundreds of small or minor ones contain your classic summertime vacation destinations, boasting 3 separate amusement parks, more beaches than you can shake a stick at, some small tropical jungle-type areas, cruise ships, seaside industry, resorts, and most everything else you can think of. Whether you want to get with your natural or your modern side, Archifel's isles have the thing for you.

What to eat: It's all about seafood in Archifel. Tropical delicacies run wild across many kitchens, and the most popular spots are the restaurants which feature chefs cooking food right in front of a small party, or ones with the balconies and patios going right out into the water. Shellfish, regular fish, and salty starchy sides are the move around here.

Image

Cove Port (Group H)

Cove Port is Drawkland's 11th biggest city and the northernmost population center. Being just enough south to make sure the harbor isn't frozen in the winter, Cove Port runs most of the sea-based trading for the north of the nation. With mountains on one horizon and the cold waters of the Oreme Ocean on another, Cove Port might be considered the polar opposite of Archifel. Hahaha. The biggest feature of the city would be its precious harbor, as well as the corresponding shipping centers, but that's not to say there isn't a fair share of busting big city there too. It is one of the nation's largest for a reason! And don't fret on how cold it can get. This tournament is during the summer, which means it'll be just a bit under temperate. Home of the Cove Port Cruisers, Max Hallor Pitch (named from the founder of one of CP's biggest shipping companies) will house the matches of Group H. To shelter the occasional bad weather, the stadium is roofed, but in the summer that's more of a moot point and the retractable top will usually be retracted unless it's raining. It will also host a Round of 16 and Quarterfinal match.

Where to stay: Cove Port technically has some Mountain or alpine lodges a bit outside of town, but being the summer and those being logistically far, we'd advise against those. Instead, we'd select one of Cove Port's many fine hotels within the city limits, especially some of the luxury modern highrise ones downtown which overlook the bay. Can't go wrong with those!

What to see: Lots of shipping companies give tours of their facilities by the harbor, but that's not necessarily a highlight. Some tourism companies do offer rides around the bay and surrounding areas, mainly to sites surrounding the Starkian Conflict, Drawkland's first war as a united nation millenia ago. If you're not adverse to a long trip and maybe missing a game, you could travel to the small nearby island nation of Starkian Towers by boat, or perhaps to one of the Northern mountains where there's a cap of snow year-round to ski or do other snow ventures.

What to eat: Cove Port isn't exactly known for its food, but locals love their cold sea fish on occasion. Hot soups, drinks, and bread are common to most local joints, as well as the various types of classic Drawkian food (savory meats and carb food, and perhaps what some foreigners would describe as "pub food").

KEL ASSUK BOARD OF SPORT
National Team Selection for the 65th Baptism of Fire

The Amalen, the proud people inhabiting Kel Assuk, have a long history of competition through sport, including several native forms of wrestling, camel racing, and spear-throwing. But the Amalen have only been introduced to football fairly recently, with the 1970s and a wave of internationalization spreading through the land, and the sport has not been popular in the nation, due to the nomadic nature of the Amalen's traditional lifestyle being unable to sustain much participation in the sport, but in 2008, a fledgling league began to take off, with 6 sides from the nation's three cities, and the sport began to grow in popularity. Now, in 2017, the KASB has decided that its team is ready to compete internationally in the Independents' Cup.

-----
MANAGERIAL STAFF

MANAGER: Image Eric Desmond Desmond is a bit of a wild card manager. Young (for a manager) and ambitious, he stuck with Kings Park of Schottia for several seasons and did well with them, but a poor start last year sealed his fate and he was let go by the club. Although his lack of experience compared to other managers may be his downfall, he is flexible and adaptable; the KABS considered him the perfect candidate to manage their fledgling, underdog side.

ASSISTANT MANAGER: Image Amezwar Sellami, 38 Sellami is raw and inexperienced but energetic and eager. Currently a manager with the nation's best side, Axxuten Adel Bagrou, the KABS has appointed Sellami as an understudy and assistant manager to provide the young manager with an opportunity to study from a more experienced hand as well as an ability to give manager Desmond a perspective on the strengths and weaknesses of his players.

-----
FULL INTERNATIONAL SQUAD

Starting XI
1. GK Karim Khattabi (C), 31 | Image Axxuten Adel Bagrou
Khattabi is solid, if not spectacular, as a goalkeeper, reliable and consistent. However, his reflexes aren't what they used to be, and they were never like those of August Ozuna or Eliot Horn to begin with. Nonetheless, Khattabi will serve for the team, as he's the best they have.

2. RB Usem Ouyahia, 28 | Image Tamadalt IT
One of the more experienced backs in Kel Assuk, Ouyahia, left-footed, is the clear choice for right back, having been playing in the league on an amateur basis since it was founded 11 years ago. He enjoys the game, and he's motivated to work hard, too.

3. CB Ziri Neqrouz, 23 | Image FC Marandet
Neqrouz complements his partner Othmani in a couple of ways; he's left footed while Othmani is right footedm and a more defensive focus as opposed to a more offensive focus; Neqrouz is quite speedy as well. This means that the centre-back pairing of the two is quite effective, as it allows the team to be more flexible when defending to achieve their aims better.

4. CB Amanar Othmani, 22 | Image Amalen Ijida
Othmani, while complementing his partner Neqrouz, also maintains excellent passing accuracy and a good rapport with the midfield, so he can move the ball up the field if it's necessary, and he's very good at keeping an eye on the field and figuring out what's going on so he can position himself in the best place. Most importantly, he has a strong relationship with his partner Neqrouz, and they help complement each other's strengths and weaknesses.

5. LB Massin Azergui, 25 | Image Tin Hinan IT Abalessa
Azergui, as a left back, has the tendency to move up to support the midfield, particularly Ait Ahmed, who plays right footed on the left like himself; nevertheless, he has proven himself to be pretty adept at the man-to-man defense proposed by manager Desmond, and his stamina allows him to make both offensive and defensive moves, giving him a modicum of versatility.

6. DM Anaruz M'Hidi, 29 | Image Armed Forces FC
M'Hidi, a former Army colonel, has the attitude, and presence, of an army veteran; of the national team, he has the highest stamina and physical fitness. That's why he's a good fit for the defensive midfield position, which requires him to move quite a bit around the pitch, holding up the midfield from any stray attacking runs.

7. CM Mohammed Hasnaoui, 26 | Image Armed Forces FC
Hasnaoui is a credible backup to Ait Ahmed, but his partnership with M'Hidi at Armed Forces has really blossomed; when he's not heading into the attack as a semi-playmaker, most often acting to get the ball to Ait Ahmed or Khalej, he's working to patrol the defense with M'Hidi, giving the defensive lineup a bit more bulk.

8. CM Seyni Ait Ahmed (VC), 27 | Image Axxuten Adel Bagrou
Ait Ahmed is the key to the entire strategy of the national team; he is the center distributor and playmaker of the team, and he holds the team together in the midfield. He has a natural talent; on the mental side, some steely composure and a good wit, as well as a good story or two for when the team is traveling or in downtime.

9. AM Saden Khalej, 19 | Image Longtails
Khalej is a hot prospect, recognized by all who know him as a potential superstar. The only problem is, Kel Assuk is probably not the best place for him to develop as a player. He has typical characteristics of a star attacking midfielder: good passing, dribbling, and shooting all around, except that he needs a lot of development. To that end, he moved to the Cenian side Longtails, which he could hope to facilitate some improvement.

10. ST Tariq Arazi, 22 | Image Tamadalt IT
Arazi's best aspects are his longer-distance shots and his passing; that makes him the better of Kel Assuk's two strikers, and often the initiator of 1-2 moves with his strike partner Feraoun. His stamina is also pretty good, which allows him to go through defenses and create openings for Feraoun and Khalej to get in and score.

11. ST Omar Feraoun, 23 | Image FC Marandet
Feraoun has a play-finishing instinct, an ability to be in the right place at the right time to just get the ball in the goal. He's an effective punch in the 1-2 play or the 3-man play, with Arazi, Khalej, or Ait Ahmed as the play starters; however, his passing and dribbling could be improved for a more effective striker.

Substitutes & Reserves
12. GK Aksil Saidi-Sief, 21 | Image Northampton
A close second to Karim Khattabi, Saidi-Sief has strong reflexes and a good court coverage; only problem, he's not Khattabi, and as such, has been relegated to second-string goalkeeper. He will be a solid replacement once Khattabi retires, however, or if he goes abroad to get some more experience (which he has, moving to Northampton recently, but the KABS is still waiting to see if that move is a success).
13. RB Anir Selmi, 25 | Image Amalen Ijida
14. CB Talharqa Zbiri, 29 | Image Armed Forces FC
15. CB Igider Bahari, 31 | Image Amalen Ijida
16. RB Marin Adhoui, 30 | Image FC Marandet
17. DM Anaruz Taher, 26 | Image Armed Forces FC
18. CM Mahmoud Salek, 24 | Image Tin Hinan IT Abalessa
19. CM Badis Al-Ouaer, 22 | Image Tin Hinan IT Abalessa
20. AM Ali Bakoura, 23 | Image Tamadalt IT
21. ST Ashur Ben Hassi, 20 | Image 1860 Azoth
Has the potential to be a star, just needs some international-level training to be more competitive (hence the move to 1860 Azoth).
22. ST Isula Azellay, 19 | Image Northampton
Has the potential to be a star, just needs some international-level training to be more competitive (hence the move to Northampton).

FORMATION AND TACTICS

Style: +3.0
Formation: 4-3-1-2

Image

Generally, Kel Assuk plays with a slightly attacking formation, with Ait Ahmed and Khalej being the main conduits and attackers for the attacking drives, while Arazi and Feraoun often help to finish off the ball into the net with their one-two strike partnership. Defensively, the team tends to play man-to-man defense to help lock down on defensive errors.

Löptsegl National Football Team

The Free Territory of Löptsegl, an island nation situated in the North Atlantic, is not an ideal location for playing football; mainly due to the cold temperatures during the Autumn and Winter seasons. Football is thus not a very developed sport in Löptsegl, only recently having developed beyond the various recreational leagues in the southern islands. Bandy and Ice Hockey are far more popular in Löptsegl proper, as well as on the island of Austland. However, football is rapidly spreading further North through the archipelago as a summer sport. Many in the nation, a collection of anarchist communes and towns, approached the idea of a national team with skepticism. First of all, not many people played it, and it would be hard to organize along the lines of anarchism and democracy. Eventually they decided on a democratic process to select the best football players. Each township that decided to participate would hold tryouts and vote on who they thought was best. This would keep going with tryout cycles until the best players were picked by the elected manager and assistant manager. Now in 2017, Löptsegl has decided to participate in its first international tournament, the 63rd Baptism of Fire!

Islana Lunigo, a happy little island of 5,500, resides itself within the eastern depths of Esportiva, the mightiest region of modern NSS. Allying itself as the right-hand nation to the magnificent Qasden, the community boasts itself on having one of the happiest citizen rates of the Qailpyme Orginization.

Every year, the capital city of Moaria is flocked frequently by lovely ignorant tourists for their star-stunning beaches and spectacular cuisine, not to mention an extensive list of aquatic recreation centers. On the far side of the island, rural sprawls of luscious rain forests and water falls fill the void uninhabited by the native Lunigans, whom are of the only few peoples allowed south of the center mountain, Mt. Sutu. Like its cat-loving companion, Islana culture enjoys the partaking in various sports, including (but not limited to) beach soccer, archery, tennis, volleyball, and even baseball. Internationally, Islana made its greatest prominences in the World Baseball Classic and Beach Soccer World Cup. While terrible at the multiversal scale, Islana baseball had participated in approximately 3 tournaments, more than many other Qailpyme teams in any tournament. At the 12th Beach Soccer World Cup, the Dragonites managed to reach the semifinals before balling out to the fiery San Jose Guayabal team.

But sand isn't the only flooring where Islana plays the beautiful game on. The island is home to Moaria FC, an association football club currently partaking in Qasden's tier-2 league, FP League. The national team itself has made its way to 2 appearances at Campionato Esportiva, both ending miserably. After much debate prior to the unveiling of the 78th cycle, the Qailpyme Orginization Department of Athletics announced plans for the island's team to join the Vans on the bigger playing field, aka, the World Cup Qualifiers, for a chance to travel to Cosumar and/or Bonesea for the proper. More importantly for Lunigo is the Baptism of Fire, the same competition that Qasden placed 4th in not too long ago ('63). In Skaganes, Spaam, the Islana squad took on Kecrazia, San Regada, and Allahakbarium in the group stages with only one idea in mind, to win. Unfortunately, that idea was quickly murdered, as within those 3 games, the Lunigans failed to surpass the Regadans, eliminating them before the fun even started. Enraged, Kopur and the Dragonites travel back home as they prepare for an onslaught of opponents in the WC qualifiers. With Spaam and Drawkland qualifying right away, could Islana be the next to be straight outta BoF?

For the duration of the World Cup 78 Qualifiers, matches held on the island will be played at the Grand Westportiva Park in Moaria. GWP, named by a local of West Moaria despite Islana being on the east side of the region, is the main tenant stadium of Moaria FC, Islana's sole club in the Qasdonian league. With a maxcap of 50,500, the park holds several amenities, inside and out. Inside, multiple concessions and a few restaurants stand, including big local names like Orico's Deli and White Dragonite. In the parking lot, it is almost commonplace for at least 10 tailgates to be there. Wex Street, an area known for its plentiful variety of shops, is only a 4 kilometer walk from the stadia, while the harbor is about 8.

Playing Style

The Elgish national team plays with a strong emphasis on defense and a very conservative 5-4-1 Sweeper formation. In the majority of cases, the team opts to hold onto its structure when playing on defense rather than shift to adapt to the attack. The sweeper is the anchor point of the defense and ultimately who is responsible for positioning the defenders ahead of him. In the event of an opposing them attempting to strike hard and move quickly past the defensive line, it is his job to meet this threat. To prevent these situations from occurring, the defense stays back further than the average team might. The defense also rarely moves forward when Elgenstad is on the attack. The center defensive midfielder will venture fairly far forward to attempt to lock down opposing strikers and force turnovers in the attacking half of the field. The left and right midfielders do the same on their sides of the field. The center attacking mid and striker are the two true offensive players in the lineup. The striker generally stays as far up as possible even when Elgenstad is defending. The center attacking mid generally does not venture below the Elgish box in order to make himself available for attacking. Most Elgish offense comes from the counter-attack. Upon forcing a turnover, the ball will be fed to the left or right midfielder who will move the ball up the wing with the help of the center defensive midfielder. The ultimate goal is the move to ball up and in to the center attacking midfielder who will then give a cross or through ball to the striker. It is the center attacking mid's job to follow up on the striker's shots.

Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Part 1

They Rose from the Desert
Chapter 4: Visiting the Two Sides of Marandet (Part 2)

Only a wadi divided the two sides of the Marandet - the old city of Araouane and the new city, Marandet, but the divide could not have been more stark. On one side was a gleaming new city with shiny new skyscrapers, a product of Kel Assuk's oil boom and the associated desire of all the prominent oil corporations to flaunt their newfound wealth by throwing up extravagant new buildings. On the other side of the wadi, the bustling old city still existed, although it could not contrast more with the new city. Araouane, with its different name, hosted souks and bazaars, narrow, winding alleyways, and the squat mud brick architecture of the ancient Amalen trading kingdoms. Araouane also served as the home of historic buildings that drew small but growing crowds to mosques, palaces, and fountains of olden days.

Eric made his way across the gleaming Amnay Toumi Bridge, a wonder of modern engineering: a cantilever spar cable-stayed bridge with one large carbon-fiber pole holding up the entire enterprise; with money as no object, the Toumi Bridge looked like it had come out of a science fiction movie. Continuing the science-fiction metaphor, if the main city of Marandet was the gleaming city-planet of Coruscant, then Araouane was the desert town of Mos Eisley - the contrast between the two sides of that wadi was extremely evident. Instead of the clean glass windows of Marandet, Araouane featured dusty mud brick huts on the outskirts, near the Toumi Bridge, but as Eric progressed further into the city center, the huts gave way to larger buildings, and the streets only grew narrower and narrower.

Eric found himself jostled by passers-by and made a mental note to constantly check for his wallet and cell phone in case of pickpockets, and as he neared the souk in the center of Araouane, the crowd only grew and grew, while the space available only lessened, so Eric felt even more cramped than before. Not only was the souk unpleasant for the body, it was unpleasant for the ears, too, as a cacophony of sounds rang out of the large market - from the beat of the traditional Amalen tende drums, accompanied by the amzad, which has been compared to a one-stringed violin, to the vendors hawking everything from trinkets to traditional Amalen food to imported electronic goods, basically anything one could think of.

Eric reached into his pocket to make sure his wallet was still there and found a crumpled yellow sheet of paper in his right pocket. On it, he had scrawled a list of something... but Eric couldn't remember it, and since his handwriting was so bad, he was having trouble reading what he had scribbled out. Plus, the fact that some of the words were in Amalen didn't help matters. Then it hit him. He had mentioned to his team that he was planning on going out to Araouane, and he asked them for recommendations on street food since they had a better idea of what the culture was like and what was good. In response, they had given him a list of their favorite Amalen food - and some had given him their favorite Western food.

Karim Khattabi, the oldest of the bunch, had explained that his favorite food was tajine, made in a specific type of pottery with a circular bowl and a cone-shaped cover. Although tajine was fairly diverse, the common thread among the types was the pottery and the fact that the meats are slow-cooked over a charcoal fire. Karim himself said his favorite was lamb tajine served with prunes, almonds, and olives, served with a dash of paprika and the traditional taguella. Seyni Ait Ahmed liked mechoui - a type of lamb barbecue - and told Eric where his favorite place within the Araouane souk to get it. "I don't like the Marandet mechoui," he proclaimed. "They don't do it right there." Anaruz M'Hidi, who spent several years in the military, told Eric that he was raised on millet porridge, a cink, and that he had a bowl every day. "Satifies my hunger every time."

The younger of the bunch were a bit different in their culinary priorities, although it was a pretty even split between traditional Amalen offerings and more modern, international foodstuffs. Saden Khalej, the star of the team, said his favorite food... well, drink, was eghajira, a thick, sweet drink only served at special occasions, like weddings and funerals. Ashur Ben Hassi prefers Mediterranean food... a lovely gyro with tzatziki sauce, olives, and feta cheese (although come to think of it, that's not all that different from Amalen cuisine). Isula Azellay enjoyed a warm bowl of Tharsatican goulash. All of this thinking of food was making Eric hungry, and he shelled out a few dinars for a heaping portion of merguez, a spicy lamb sausage, from a nearby street vendor, and filed away the name of a small street cafe to eat dinner at before heading to the list of sights to see for the day.

Newly fortified with his merguez, Eric trekked around half a kilometer to see the Great Mosque of Araoaune, a masterpiece of early Islamic architecture. The building was visible from many miles away, on account of its large and imposing minaret. Inside the mosque, Eric viewed the magnificent vaulted prayer hall, with gargantuan chandeliers, and admired the walls, finely decorated with colorful geometric patterns and intricate calligraphy. Outside in the courtyard, Eric marveled at the gorgeous tiled mosaic patterns and fountains. Again, these first few days of his visit to Kel Assuk were changing his perceptions about the country; he now held the Amalen people in much higher esteem than he did before his trip, and was deeply looking forward to learning even more about their culture.

Eric exited the mosque and wandered through the souk, taking a look at all the finely woven textiles, smelling several different spices, and looking over gold, silver, and bronze tchotchkes like lamps, medallions, coins, and archaeological relics, resisting the urge to buy things. He finally gave in to his urge to buy some taguella bread, which he had enjoyed at his lunch, to tide him over until dinner. Before he ate, though, he visited the Palace of Tin Hinan, the first queen of the Takrit Empire. Originally serving as the palace of the Amalen king (or queen) and the location of his (or her) court, the palace had since been converted into a museum, displaying artifacts relating to the Takrit Empire, as well as the two other Amalen empires. Eric wandered through the palace and admired the tangible artifacts of the Amalen empires' presence in the area and remained in awe of their efforts. He then heard his stomach growling and tried to finish off the palace, but failed, and made his way to the streetside cafe recommended to him. He sat down at the local dive and ordered the house specialty, and, while waiting, thought about his plan for training Kel Assuk's national team. They would have a lot to work on to become competitive, and they would have to work hard - would they have the willpower and stamina to do so? He would just have to wait to find out, and in the meantime he mulled over what he was going to do to make them a true unit and make them a team...

The gray stone of Hovedstad Stadion blended in with the cloud that seems to permanently hang over the city of Byen. The turrets and gargoyles reaching into the air but hardly differentiable from the gray sky and the Gothic arches revealing nothing but gloomy clouds. The stadium will likely stand forever, being built with stone from the mountains surrounding the city as were most of the buildings in Byen. All of them similar shades of gray with the occasional red or brown. The architecture is in a beautiful neo-Gothic style. The buildings seemingly grew straight from the ground as if they had been part of the landscape for millions of years. In a way, they had been.

Byen is far back in the mountains of Elgenstad and connected to the only other city, Havnen, by a rail line. Now a respectable city of 1.5 million people (three-quarters of the country’s population), it was not always so. The first settlers of the country ventured into the mountain range in search of metals and precious minerals and moving enough building material from the coast was not an option logistically, so they just started quarries and built the city out of the stone around them. Hovedstad Stadion was one of the first major projects after the city began grew and really established itself.

Byen has never been an international city and Elgenstad has just started to open up to things other than trade. In seclusion for so long, Hovedstad Stadion has not seen much activity outside of the sporadic league match. The stone arena stands as its own headstone. But today, it had some life.

“Lars, please don’t run so far ahead,” a flustered mother impatiently requested. She held another child of about 2 years of age in her arms. “Paul, please do something about your son.”

The father jogged ahead to grab his 6-year-old who was practically sprinting towards the gates of the stadium. Somewhere along the way he dropped his beanie on the ground. Paul picked it up as he trotted up behind little Lars. He plunked it down of his head and grabbed his son, deftly scooping him up and seating him on his shoulders. The two continued on to the gate to wait with a growing group of other Byeners.

A smiling usher wearing a hat bearing the logo of the Elgesk Fotballforbund sauntered up the gate brandishing a set of keys. He grinned at the crowd and thanked all of them for coming out early in the morning. Unlocking the gate, he swung it open and gestured down the tunnel that would take the day’s spectators down to field level.
Paul hung back to wait for his wife and other child. Young Lars tugged on his ears and pleaded, “Dad, let’s go. We aren’t going to get a good spot if we don’t hurry up right now.”

“It’s a big stadium and there aren’t very many people here yet. It’ll be fine. Just bear with me and wait for your mother.”

Once Paul’s wife, Lovise, caught up with them, they walked together down the tunnel behind the rest of the spectators. They were invited to take a seat in the first couple rows of the stadium for the day’s events. For the next half hour or so, more people filed in through the tunnel and took their seats until the spectators. The anticipation built up until there were probably a little over a thousand people on the wooden bench seats of Hovedstad Stadion.

A gentleman in a tracksuit wandered over to the sideline with a microphone and gave a wave to grab everyone’s attention. The murmurs hushed as he opened his mouth.

“Good morning, everyone. I want to thank you for coming out so early in the morning on a Friday. I know the kids just got out of school and a lot of you grown folks in the audience are trying to get to work or maybe took the morning off to be here. To start with, my name is Thorvald Rasmussen and I’m the head coach of the team we’re sending off to the Baptism of Fire. The team and I have plane to catch early this afternoon so I’m not going waste any more of your time and I’ll just bring them out for you. I know they’re about as excited as a kid playing hooky on the first day of hunting season.”

The players for the national team began to file out onto the field with big grins and waving abound. About half of them in the home colors of gray-blue and black numbers and the other half in the plain white away get-ups. Taking a moment to hop up onto the rail separating the stands and field, the twenty-three of them took their time to
shake hands and greet the fans who had come out for them. They ran out onto the field and Rasmussen tossed a ball out to the center circle.

“We’re going to go ahead and run a little scrimmage for all of you who were kind enough to join us today. Immediately following, we’ll give you all a chance to have some face-to-face time with the team before we fly off to Spaam.”

Rasmussen blew his whistle and Lauritz Ostenstad, the starting striker, tapped the ball to get things officially underway.

Lars leaned over to his dad, “Thanks for making me get up this morning, Dad. This is really cool.”

Paul threw an arm over the back of his son’s seat, “Of course, buddy.”

The Football Show

Hello viewers, and its a big day for the Kyrjasmark national team. The last day of training before the start of the Baptism of Fire.

The Baptism of Fire is a tournament for new nations to the World Cup.

The Kyrjasmark have competed before in a World Cup, back in World Cup 73.

But the rules for entry are that the team must never have competed in a Baptism of Fire before and must be unranked. Ranking points nay last for three editions, so any points the Federation picked up have now expired.

Which makes us eligible. Our team will compete in their new uniforms too, for the first time. Let's have a look at them.

Our home kit is purple and white checks, nothing could be more Kyrjasmarkian. The away kit is a black shirt, purple on the shoulders. I really like this one.

The goalkeeper's kit is black with the world tree superimposed on it. In the event that clashes, they'll wear plain white.

Let's talk about the home kit. A great choice to represent Kyrjasmark, given the royal coat of arms is purple and white checks.

Yes, and I hear Queen Dagmar herself approved the design.

We can't confirm that, but the uniform definitely has those royal connections. There is a lot of history behind the simple pattern on these shirts, and to help explain it, here with me is historian Dr Freya Torvaldsonn. Dr Freya, welcome.

Thanks, Ragnar, good to see you.

Dr Jorgen, where does the purple and white check begin in Kyrjasmark history.

This is right at the start of the Kyrjasmarkian monarchy, in fact before the existence of Kyrjasmark itself. So in the year 860, a king with the great name of Oddmund the Unsteady died. He ruled for most of the ninth century, had a dozen children, and the oldest was a daughter named Gry. Now Gry had her own army, she'd been leading raids in her father's lifetime, and her soldiers had purple shields.

So in 860 Gry becomes queen, and about 5 days later, during a feast at Ust, she is murdered by her two oldest brothers. Those brothers convince the council to declare them kings, and split the country in to two - so Valmark, which basically covered what is now Thudvangr, and Jalor. Gry's son is cut off from the throne, and he flees to found a new country, Kyrjasgard, and the city he builds there is the capital Freyrhold. So he takes his mother's arms, a plain purple field with a white "thorn" rune, which was the symbol of Oddmund and his father, and that becomes the arms of the royal house of Kyrjasgard.

So for 95 years Kyrjasgard is at war with the other two nations, and then Sigmund the Great wins the battle of Valgrind. Now he's the king of Kyrjasgard, and at this battle he defeats Queen Reginleif of Valmark and Jalor, and become King of the whole of Valheim. Reginleif's arms are white, with a black thorn rune. To solidify his claim to the throne, Sigmund marries Reginlief's sister Soja, and combines their arms: His purple, and her white. We lose the thorn runes, and we have the purple and white checks that have been used by every monarch since.

So this pattern has over a thousand years of history embedded in it?

That's right.

Thanks, Dr Freya, and if you want to know more, you have a new show on channel 3.

That's right, it's called "The Crown" and we're looking at the history of the Kyrjasmark monarchy and how the kings and queens grew the country really from a small nation to this vast empire.

Thank you Dr Freya. Well, after the break, we discuss our national team's favourite foods whilst on tour. Don't go anywhere.

Acapais' Admission into the Baptism of Fire Raises Eyebrows

The Acapais National Football Team has entered the first and only Baptism of Fire tournament and it met with some stern opposition from other nations. Because this isn't Acapais' first attempt in the World Cup Qualifying rounds, the team's entry into the tournament for nations lack football experience on the world stage is met with suspicion. Sporting officials around the world have noted that because Acapais has been in the World Cup in the past and have been crowned champions of The Cup of Harmony, Acapais are is ineligible for the inaugural tournament of this World Cup session.

The hosts of this year's Baptism of Fire, Spaam and Drawkland, nor the World Cup Committee have released official statements, however both have indicated in public forum it is not a concern and if indeed Acapais had been ineligible, they “wouldn't had been given a spot in the tournament.” Opinions in other international football associations vary. Newly promoted Vice President of the Alpine Football Association, Bhaltair Mac'Ill'Fhionndaig, is on record saying Acapais should "not be accepted [into the BoF] for they have competed in past tournaments." Atticus Cothric, a Bonesfolk official in The Fellowship of The Greasy Churn, angrily said in interview with a Boldsport correspondent that the squad be "banned from the upcoming tournament and all future tournaments" although retracted his statement later when the head of the World Cup host’s football association, Professor Kett, said, "Acapais have not broken any rules.” Cothric, had also stated the legal paperwork for filing a suit against the new BoF entrants, however, after speaking with members of the World Cup Committee, no such documents have yet been filed only days away for the opening match.

In addition, there is a precedent for this questionable entry. Five-time World Cup Champion, Starblaydia, entered the Baptism of Fire despite having two world championships to their name. No official action has been taken regarding the incident, and at the time of this writing, no investigation is taking place.
Despite the distractions, Acapais manager Andrew Jennings says he’s ready for Match day 1 saying at a press conference on Monday, “I’m honored to be the manager for this tournament and have a large responsibility to make the citizens of this nation proud. We’re going to ignore any criticism regarding our eligibility get ready Sunday’s match against Kaidou.” When asked about Cothric, Jennings replied with a large smile, “no one can put a fork in our road. We’re going to put a fork in Group G!” The answer, referring to Acapais drawing the “Fork” groups and matches in Drawkland, was met with a collective eye-roll from the journalists in the room.

Acapais midfielder, Matthew Watson, was asked about his selection of eggs and bacon as his favorite food and refused to comment further citing privacy during a “difficult time.” Theories on social media using the tag #difficulttime, include a recent landscaping disaster at the captain’s place of residence and that Watson, allegedly, found out he wasn’t human.

TVEIDALEN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

The Tveidalener Football Association has decided to send the national football team of the Theocracy to the World Cup qualification, with the team of Tveidalen being completely new to World Cup football, it has been invited to the baptism of fire in order to gain some experience to play against bigger challenges in the competition. With miserable failures on both Copa Rushmori and the Global Cup of Soccer, Tobias Horn's managerial position is in jeopardy however a fresh and well prepared Tveidalener side is ready to face all odds with the target being a Baptism of Fire win and a big boost come the World Cup qualification stages.

The team:

Starting Lineup:
GK:Asgeir Olhouser(Age 29)
CB:Ola Spillum(Age 31)
CB:Peter Årud(Age 22)
LB:Stig Oliversen(Age 26)(Vice captain)*
Description: Stig Olversen is quite frankly one of the most offensive left backs on the planet. He's extremely high up that he may sometimes be confused as a winger. However his speed and strngth on 1v1 can do their trick whenever needed. He was given the vice captain spot after his heroics in both failed tournaments.
RB:Lauritz Strand(Age 21)
DM:Severin Ostberg(Age 30)
RM:Haakon Hummel(Age 33)(Captain)*
Description: Hummel is the star player of the team, he controls the whole play of the right side of the pitch, which is the strongest side of the Tveidalener squad. His passing's quite accurate as well.
LM:Valter Frank(Age 29)
AM:Petter Solberg(Age 27)
CF:Per Strand(Age 24)
CF:Josef Rasmussen(Age 20)*
Description: Being a fast and agile forward, with a deadly finish, Rasmussen is needed in pretty much all of the team's attacks. He's got the potential to destroy whole defences in the blink of an eye in the right conditions.

Changes:
GK:Ingolf Gulbrandsen(Age 23)
CB:Elias Anthonsen(Age 26)
CB:Bertil Amundsen(Age 29)
LB:Otto Vilhjalmsson(Age 30)
LB:Alf Simonsen(Age 23)
RB:Niklas Storstrand(Age 26)
RB:Ivar Haakonsson(Age 28)
DM:Knut Naess(Age 20)
RM:Storm Vollan(Age 30)
LM:Truls Jakobsen(Age 31)
AM:Dan Nass(Age 27)
CF:Fritjof Sørensen(Age 20)

Coach:Tobias Horn(Age 49)
Description: With his position in jeopardy, Tobias Horn is using the best of the most offensive tactics found in Tveidalen. He's an impatient coach and a perfectionist. If a Tveidalener attack doesn't go as planned, he loses his cool instantly.
Assistant Coach:Hugo Salomon(Age 51)
Assistant Coach:Andor Axelsen(Age 68)

The tactics:

Tveidalen is well known for its outrageously offensive and counteroffensive tactics. Most of the team's players are fast and agile which cover the fact that the team's got a pretty weak defence. If the offense goes right, it will keep going no matter what. Tveidalener players know how to pound the ball into the opposing team's net, no matter what the situation is.

This story is about Nemes Márkó, a sympathetic fifteen year old striker who reached interstellar form this year. We follow him as he arrives in Kayo, Drawkaland.

1. The plane to Kayo

06:31, Chailanka national airport, Krasznokvajda.
He was feeling sleepy, of course he was. He left his bed at about 4 o’clock in the morning and he hadn’t slept very well. But besides all this, he was really excited. The season had come to an end and he was the second best scorer in the league and carried his normally below average side to a 9th place. But he knew that the Baptism of Fire would be difficult. ‘But’ he said to himself ‘if we play well, we will put our nation in the spotlights and I can maybe get a transfer.’ He was early and now some players and fans started to flock in. About a quarter of an hour later, the whole squad arrived and quite a big amount of fans started to appear. He took a few selfies with fans and he went to the coffee shop to get a new cup of coffee. After he had finished his coffee he went to his family that just had arrived to wish them goodbye before he boarded the plane. At this moment he realized how loved they were in their home country. He made himself comfortable in the plane and he left Chailanka behind.

10:24, somewhere above the Indian Ocean.
‘Attention, you could experience some shaking in the near future, don’t be scared this is just turbulence and you will be all right if you fasten your seatbelts. Thank you for your attention.’ Said the speaker above him. Although he felt the most comfortable on a boat, he flew quite often and he knew what turbulence was as he fastened his seatbelt. He had been asleep for at least three hours and he felt delighted. He started his computer and began to watch a film when the airplane started to shake. Not vigorously but quite hard, he saw some players just relax on the plane and some were scared. He decided to go asleep again and he relaxed. But he couldn’t so he just watched the movie

15:42, Kayo
The plane had just landed safely in Kayo and he was delighted, it was a beautiful day and it was certainly not too hot. He didn’t know where he should go in Kaya. For his standards, the city was pretty big and a mess. After all the official documents and visa were received he was keen to go to a beautiful part of town. He went on a tram to a quieter and peaceful part of the city, not too far from the lake and he ordered a refreshing drink and he decided that he should see the famous castle.

19:57,in a hotel in a village not too far from Kayo
He arrived in a hotel in a peaceful and quiet village and he was happy, he had just ordered some fish and it was delicious. Although his favourite food was still grilled watermelon. He watched some videos of the Lusitanian football team and he felt like it would become a lucky day tomorrow.
