How did you find out about NS?
For me, I was doing a Google Image search for 'throne rooms', and I came across a Forum Post with players sharing what their nations throne room was. I decided to investigate, and made an account.

Ive admitted to it before but....

Max Barry was hiding in the bushes as I walked to school one day - it was a tuesday.... I was wearing red (I know right? Red? Pffft!).

When I passed him, he jumped out behind me and opened his trenchcoat with a triumphant, "LOOKIE HERE!" echoing from his lips. When I turned around I could see a strange bald man with his back to me wearing a trenchcoat without pants. He was, however, wearing pennyloafers - I thought that was a poor fashion choice.

As he began to glance around confusedly I tossed some change down on the ground and resumed my walk. I was thinking about pastrami for lunch.

"You WILL love me!" He cried, scooping up the $.37, "Nationstates will rue the day when I deliver unto them one he who shall not be named - the chosen one! Are you that one?"

"Eh?"

"Are you that one?!"

".... I mean...."

"THE ONE! IT IS YOU!!! WOE UNTO YOU!"

".... uh huh... I'm gonna go this way now. Kbai."

But it wasn't over. The memory of Max haunted me wherever I went. The disturbing visage of the doughy and clammy texture of his skin; the pungent odor of days old perspiration and unwashed body; and the maniacal grin spreading across his face - all of this paled in comparison to the manifest horror of the words spelled out on his bare hairless chest with pepperoni slices - -

Nationstates.

I was huddled in a puddle of my own fear induced vomit and urine three days later before I finally found the strength to google the term.

I can never leave now that I am here. He won't let me.

An on-line friend started a region and linked it to a thread about it on a scam site I used to frequent, I made a nation, joined his region and the rest as they say is history...Also I can almost guarantee I am the last nation from that particular group still playing.

I was looking for nation/map/world building programs and wasn't finding anything, after I was just about to give up, I clicked on NS and decided nah, just then a hand came out of my computer and grabbed onto the neck of my shirt, I got a good look at the figure and it was this weird bald guy with Australian accent saying "You will join."

I was searching for non-canon Star Trek material and came across a nation based on an alternate version of the Federation. The idea of the site piqued by interest, and voila, my first nation was born. That was more than two years ago, and I've since moved on to other nations (this one being the most thoroughly established, and hopefully my last main account), but I'll never forget the sense of wonder that I experienced during my first few months on NS.
