And largely we are not that stupid any more, thought some pricks remain and continue to cause shit each year, thankfully they are dwindling in number as younger people really cannot be fucking bothered dealing with it.

Brussels is willing throw it's own member under the bus and restart the troubles just to fuck with Britain for leaving.

When the negotiations take place, I think Ireland will tell the EU to go to hell and ask for a soft border. The Republic and the 6 counties do A LOT of trade and many families are separated by the border. Northern Ireland already voted on the referendum and overwhelmingly they chose to stay in the UK, and I don't think they are going to change that now just because of Brexit.
Well, Scotland and NI voted stay in large part because they wanted to stay in the EU. Then Brexit happened.

This... This is why all these countries are petitioning to leaving the EU.

The Common Travel Area between the UK and Ireland has existed since 1923 - long before the EU was so much a gleam in someone's eye. Brexit has nothing to do with it. In fact it's actually the Republic of Ireland who have advocated greater border control, since 1997, again with nothing whatsoever to do with Brexit.
The CTA pre-dating EU membership does not preclude it's removal in any way nor does it prevent the need for a hard border between either the island of Ireland and GB or the Six Counties and Ireland (both of which would increase the Republican cause). Ireland has an EU responsibility to police a border between the EU and a non-member state. To avoid doing so would place us far too heavily under British influence.

NI voted in their referendum 1996 to stay - 98% in fact. Are you telling me that NI voted back in 96' the way they did because they thought Brexit couldn't happen? During the actual Brexit vote, 44% voted to leave, so I am preeeetty sure that they are going to stay. http://www.bbc.com/news/politics/eu_referendum/results
And Scotland may have expected to stay in the EU, but by voting to stay in the UK they acknowledged that they are willing to take the chance of leaving the EU.
