Another good season for Bishop. Spurlock's hard-running, tight-pressing side managed another comfortable midtable finish, and the expectation is that there will be more to come next season following some expansion on their occasionally blunt front line. Casarine, a decent and spirited 30-year old centreforward, was released along with the experienced winger Barker. That said, Bishop didn't quite reach their targets for replacement, and 31-year old Jaspenner and the inexperienced Milligan were, well... not quite the calibre desired. Even so, this is a good team they've brought together.
They should play some decent football, as well - Spurlock's playstyle is hard-pressing, hard-running and deadly on the counter, and they now have a finisher to add meat to their threats. The back is pretty solid, Scannell an acrobatic and proven shot-stopper at this level while the silk of Project +90 graduate Rosenbauer and the steel of the hulking Crinion kept attackers at bay - a bit of asymmetry on the wings was sometimes problemativ, with Farlane older, slower and more conservative than the lightning-fast and adventurous Kresinger. The midfield, once a strong point, has reverted to the mean somewhat - the excellent captain Monica Cunnington remains one of their best assets, but at 34, Pennyfeather's unable to keep up with Premiership pace and Rosenberg has never quite managed to be better than just average. On the flanks, Milligan is all pace but yet to find her final ball, while Dragana on the left is arguably the team's best player - when Bishop are on the front foot, she combines with Kresinger to terrifying effect. Up front, Olenna Jaspenner can float back and link up the midfield when it suits the team but is entirely happy to just be the finisher as well. The depth might be stretched in places, especially with uncertain midfielders like Fletridge and Joanson, but 31-year old Theresa Wintergren (once of Brinemouth) is an electrifying impact substitute. So all in all, Bishop are a decent side that will stay up comfortably... but they're unlikely to be involved at either business end of the table.

Something of a rebuilding year for the Dockers, perhaps - as others around them smash transfer records, the Dockers opt instead to offload the old and invest in youth. They aimed to get Bereveskos early in the window, but found themselves outflanked by Sabrefell Athletic. That forced their hand in buying... probably a better player, in Kyron Bartley, the main addition to their starting lineup. Morales, now 19 and already a staple in the Ceni national team, is the goalkeeper for the future. The best news of all? After a protracted saga, reigning Premiership player of the year Konrad Gosforth agreed to sign a new four-year deal. But sacrifices had to be made, with Rachel Sable's transfer request ultimately granted reluctantly (it sees her join the Phalanx project in Ceni), Bottlegreen returning to Zozi, Juquinho and Beckcamp trying their hands in Cosumar and who the hell is Karel Jonason anyway? Well, he's gone from third-choice at the Dockers to backup in the First Division, anyway. The academy's had a somewhat barren run of late, but Exarchopolous and Silkemark might just break that mould.
But they're not to be trifled with - this is still a powerhouse of a side. Brinemouth always is, especially under Stephen Frew's strong leadership, and they retain their emphasis on flowing attacking football so dedicated to outscoring the opposition that it'd make a Farf pro- well, not flip channels, anyway. Between the posts, Matt Vintner remains indisputed starter, for good reason giving his sweeping, shot-stopping and set-piece stifling prowess. One very silky centre-half in front of him in Gianluigi Calabrese often starts the counterattacks with big sweeping passes, while Nkembe, though not quite fulfilling the promise he was initially hyped for, is a fearsome prospect to come up against. Homegrown Danijel Brymora and Farf international mainstay Roenoujya may be at opposite ends of their career, 20 and 30 respectively, but they're very much in the same mould of bloody-mindedly aggressive fullbacks who look more like wingers at times. Brymora's the quicker, stronger and dirtier of the two, but Roenoujya's the equal of many attacking midfielders in his technical skillset. Bosetti anchors playmaker Candelo and rampaging war machine Gosforth to form what was once called the Valladar Connection but with Locke gone is now usually referred to as the Bosetti Triangle. Up front, Bartley, Scafidis and Silkman - internationals all - are a free-flowing, energetic and interchangeable front three, though Scafidis' aerial prowess lends her to linger in the box. The defensive depth is great, with Rosewood, Finnan and Bayliss all hardened successes at this level, but further forward can the likes of Winter and Mytaras step up if needed? The jury is out - but if the Dockers want to be serious title contenders, which they do, they need a clean bill of health.

The end of an era. The Otters' run was glorious while it lasted, but maybe a little too glorious, as Gerhard Thunder takes the managerial vacancy everyone knew he would at the club his status remains legendary at - Sabrefell Moths. But they picked a replacement well - Matilda Heisenberg, the mind and voice behind Crisisbless United's remarkable rise and long-delayed fall. Much more rise than fall, really. The Otters had an incredible season last time, ending in 5th and scoring freely, but they look... ill-equipped for war on two fronts. So Heisenberg's gone to patch up what she can - defensive holes filled by experienced Llamanean international Ynoa and Siegrist, Armstrong's start performer over the last two seasons in Chilton, a former Treason winger in Schwarzer, a highly-rated centre-half in Vannatter and whoever le Sueur is. They've lost... well. Rivers and Carragher, both internationals, while Carradine, Karassalidis and Cirrincione were all solid veteran performers. But what hurts most of all... yes, it was his time. Hadrian goddamn Belfast hangs up his boots at last. And immediately takes up a coaching role at Sabrefell Athletic.
So what does Heisenberg have at her disposal? Well, she's sticking with the 4-4-2 she was handed for now - but there will likely be changes next season. For now, the experiment involves... a few of last season's key players, but much of the veteran spine is missing. They'll still be expected to play fast, attacking football, of course, as they take their splendid vapourwave kits to UICA. Rook Alphonse played out of his skin last season, great distribution and seemingly unstoppable between the posts at times - will he regress to the mean? Without a clear replacement, that's a key question. At least the redoubtable Haubeck and classy Emily Ynoa will be a good defensive basis for them. The fullbacks, Siegrist and Heitinger, are in the same mould - very quick, attack-minded and diligent, with low centres of gravity and a fondness for crosses. Dimitar is a battler who can't pass - 32-year old former international Kestrel can play about nine different positions, but excelled in particular last season as the side's primary central playmaker, a role that Tanya Chilton can also play very well. Schwarzer is an excellent right winger who was transparently too good for the second tier in the past couple of seasons, but Whiteforest... bluntly isn't quite her match, especially at 30. But diligent Malakai Curtis and the ruthless Loeher don't need great service - they'll make the best of any chance between them. In terms of other options? A handful of unspectacular players, Chilton aside. This side, for all its virtues, will struggle to fight on multiple fronts - expect a bounce after their Globe Cup elimination.

Chatswood are in dire straits. Three very strong teams come up from the First Division and, West Brinemouth excepted, there's no obvious candidates for the bottom four. One of those candidates is... Chatswood. They did pretty well to come 16th last season, but that was before selling their best two players (both young, homegrown and vital parts of their survival), letting three forwards leave, seeing four full internationals out the door in total and, hell, for good measure, Rook Keenan refused a one-year contract extension to turn out for the Terracotta Army in the second tier. But, thankfully, in the dying hours of the window they were finally able to throw their money at important new forwards in Nketiah and Mavididi. Issue is that there was no money left over so basically everyone else they brought in is a kid. Rashkin is better than he looks on paper - a 23-year old who impressed for relegated West Hook and unsurprisingly refused a new contract - but the youth products are pretty ordinary.
Anyway, Elrik Raskine's got a pretty good first XI still - and he's thrown them into decent order. The old white-line fever is gone, though, and the side looks... weirdly fragile. Not for want of trying by Helena Middlesbrough, though, a decent and unremarkable Premiership goalkeeper, or the rock of the defence Devane Miller. But Miller's 35 now, Strauss alongside him isn't amazing, Vlahos... won a couple of caps somehow but his development's stalled a bit, and Chaplain, at 29, is losing her pace. They'll be shielded capably by the midfield, Gareth Flynn is Osarian by blood but a pure Nepharim bruiser in style while Archer, Corsie and Sabitzer are all very technically proficient players. Corsie's even shed a few pounds lately, miracles do happen! Up front, Nketiah and Mavididi are a deadly partnership... and that partnership is crucial, they've never been as good apart from each other. Is there a relationship there? That's up for the tabloids to decide. On the bench things are, uh, not pretty. Guys like Rashkin, Thorn, the Beresfords and Schuster who just aren't that great, Ilsander who might be too young and Matheson who's found himself out of favour and, at the end of the season, contract. If Chatswood stay up... they need a clean bill of health. As it stands, this side's been gutted.

The Harriers did nicely for themselves last season. They came up, they made a nuisance of themselves, their lack of depth wasn't exposed too badly and, importantly, their big purchase in Peta-Gaye West banged in sixteen goals, six assists and just generally linked up nicely with the rest of the team. Aidan Brosque proved tactically versatile and generally made substitutions that mattered. This does not look like the yo-yo side the Harriers were infamous for being! Over the course of the window, five backups leave, while vulnerabilities in defence and goal are patched up - the depth, meanwhile, receives help in the form of the versatile Monica Bairstow who can play basically anywhere around the centre of the park.
One thing's for sure - improvement is expected at the back. Markus Sheffield is a Llamanean international with a reputation for extreme aggression, athleticism and for saving penalties with the help of some serious mind games. His name even sounds Nepharim! He was born for this league, and will do nicely sweeping for the defence. 32-year old Everheart shifted across to centre-half in the offseason, not his first position but one he's capable in, and he's the ball-player to Dimitri Evans' more standard bouncer. On the flanks, U21 international Crowe and Bekkwaters will provide width going forward. The platform in midfield is provided by Mirzayev, who was technically adept but struggled a little with the pace and physicality of the Premiership last season, and 33-year old captain Somner, who was a good leader but also a little physically under-par. Still, their relative weakness is compensated by the fluid attacking unit of Feist, Weber and Barthez (with the versatile Bairstow as the natural backup), three quick technicians who'll give any defence pause for thought, while the Aquilani West proved a ruthless finisher. The depth still looks dangerously weak in defence, but there's some good young talents ready to take chances if provided. So, then... more of the same, please?

It was meant to be a quiet off-season for Coret as they consolidated and basked in their new upper-midtable status, but it was never going to be the case - almost immediately, Tarashaj was subject to a 10-million bid from AFC Treason. Off went Tarashaj, and stalwart squad players in Latchford and Godsflock followed him out the door (albeit to less exalted locales). In came a new figure, Jenny McDonald - a midfielder of remarkable talent, but there's just one awkward elephant in the room. Port Christopher's league, while of surprisingly high quality, is notoriously short. The Premiership is notoriously long. Will the Hawks' new marquee have the stamina to keep going? No such doubts over Sasha Christener, of course, a veteran of the league with 116 Nephara caps to her name.
The Hawks, that said, look a strong proposition going into the new season. Anna Cliving prefers 4-4-2, though she's flexible when it makes sense to be, and the core is rock-solid. Cormak 'the Brigadier' 'Spider' 'Tiny' Lethbridge between the posts, the Cosumarite flier having adapted fantastically to this level and taken up the vice-captaincy, with Neustadt and Valkanis impenetrable ahead of him. The fullbacks will be trusted to add a lot of thrust this season more than last, be it the guile of Christener on the right or the blistering pace of the highly-promising 19-year old Jeurissen on the left. Bickermann exists entirely to make room and kick people for Jenny McDonald in the centre of the park. The wingers are fantastic players in their own right, of course, with Draxler an outside bet for Nephara caps and Montague a constant in Chromatik squads - both similar in terms of their pace and willingness to drift inside and cause problems. Up front, Gabriella Antonio is the main outlet, and the flamboyant 24-year old Fletchclair will get his chance to prove his worth with regular starts. Plenty of options too on the bench, just how Cliving likes. She has experienced, defensive fullbacks in captain Beckett and Brenecia international Duffy. She has a dedicated box-to-box midfielder in Manning, a big striker in Kuepper, and a crap goalkeeper in Ellery. All in all? It's a dangerous mix, and sides who felt like comfortable Globe Cup candidates will need to watch over their shoulder.

Largely unexpected, Corvette manage a promotion in emphatic fashion, overhauling the Dragons on the last day to win the title. While they managed promotion largely through their overpowering attack, manager Leo Santander recognised the need to sharpen up at the back - step forward Lukas Sparr and Lara Silverstein, both players with a fair amount of experience at this level and the talent to come back. Further forward, 21-year old Nikolaidis is another who impressed at this level and Đurić, 20, bears high hopes in Pasarga of developing to an international standard. Sciberras is called up after a decent season in the reserves to add to the depth lost as a series of depth options are sold or let go - the most painful of all Rainer Hildebrandt, a colossus during the promotion campaign but at 37 probably not good enough for the Premiership anymore.
The Maulers are a side with traditional values. Specifically, that they attack, hard, in search of victory. This kind of approach tends to need a very good goalkeeper - Lazaridis was alright, sure, but while the official word is that Sparr was brought in to 'compete' for the starting role preseason matches and plain common sense would seem to indicate the acrobatic goalkeeper's won that. Silverstein is the classy, intelligent gem in a very ordinary defence - Karoy, Rainwall and Laursen are just pretty good First Division players, and lack Premiership experience. Things get better going forward - Vassall is the murderer that allows the main playmaker Mateus and the exceptional, diligent young Nikolaidis to shine. Up front? Even better... if Đuric can shine at this level, and it might be worrying that her 23-year old companions have no Premiership experience. But Dani Harper is a mosquito up front, lightning-quick and great at finishing and that's about it - Ankergren is a more elegant presence. The weak point? Depth, in places - the backup striker is chronically mediocre 33-year old Harry Robertson or the teenaged, piebald Patches Rathbone, and the backup defence looks extremely fragile, but in other positions the likes of Plutarch and Heller - who played big parts in the promotion campaign - will stand up and be counted. Of the three promoted sides, it's the champions that look the most likely to go down - even so, they should be safe, as long as they can avoid a string of injuries.

Wanderers come straight back up in imperious fashion, and the vision of tactically-astute Levan Kyprianou has shifted the team from the Route One hoofball boys that went down (though they would probably have flattened West Brinemouth had the promotion/relegation playoff been introduced a season earlier) and installed instead a confident, muscular, pacey side that prsses high and forcefully evaporates their opponents. Of course, this means that many of the old guard - marginalised in the promotion run - have been shown the door, with Premiership veterans Rook, Westerveld, Conagher and Roebuck all released. And while they've signed a few new players, the one everyone's kinda staring at is Tobias Clarke. Yes, THAT Tobias Clarke. THE Tobias Clarke.
Granted, Clarke is now 35, so the ten guys around him are going to be pretty important. Former U21 international Luna Castelen, now 27, truly seized her chance last season between the posts, an agile and acrobatic shot-stopper who worked to bulk up and be a tougher prospect in the air than before. Her distribution is fantastic, as well, with big sweeping diagonal balls to the flanks adding to the Wanderers' threat. She has the rock-solid partnership of Jantzer and Kearney ahead of her, and they are proven at this level. On the flanks, Pietersen and Salone are both good, fast fullbacks who contribute well to the attack, but cover their tracks well. Bismarck is a classy technician while captain Behan keeps things calm in the centre of the park. Sunshine Rayne offers traditional Islander pace, flair and improvisation on the right. On the left? That's Clarke's territory - maybe a little further back than he's used to, but Salone will run for him to leave him free to drift. Up front is a mixed bag. Gareth Teixeira tore the First Division apart last year and harbours ambitions of a callup from his Guayabalense grandfather's birthplace, and he has the muscle, pace and finishing to be the natural target for Clarke's crosses. But who to pair him with - the giant but unprolific Scuffett, or the tall, elegant but delicate 21-year old Heron Kendall? The depth in the side is pretty decent - Payne did well for them last season as a regular starter, Diebeck is a capable rotation option to rest Behan's legs while former Brinemouth leftback Cheney Ralston is still going strong at 30. In a very strong cohort, the Wanderers should stay up... but it's going to be a close-run thing.
