The main battle tank of our Nation is the RS-1N, a variant of the Leopard 2A6 (shown below). Our version is equipped with a small nuclear fission reactor instead of a combustion engine, making it lighter, faster and more powerful, as well as circumventing the constant expense of fuel. The main cannon is also rifled, employing ERFB ammunition to maximize range and impact. Much of research and development is going toward improving the armor and reducing heat and noise.

Mäuse. And I hope you're kidding.

Even if they got them into service, it would be at the tail end. To little, too late. Remember these two words: Allied Bombing.

Doesn't mean it wouldn't be epic to see just 1 or 2 Maus' fighting off a soviet division before they ran out of ammo and were destroyed.

Oh, and did I mention inventing the whole sodding thing?

Cavalry should still be on horses *mumblegrumble*

French tanks were actually better from 1917 to 1940, followed by Russia in the interwar period.

If only the 2nd world war started a biiiitttt later we would have seen the TOG II in action :,(

Ah, but Britain developed mechanised doctrine with the Experimental Mechanised Force, and if the Matilda 2 had had a better engine it would have been as good as any tank of 1939-40, it nearly threw back the Germans near Arras. Also, Liddell Hart and Fuller influenced the German Panzer geniuses.

Welcome to 1938.

I thought ten thousand swords must have leaped from their scabbards to avenge even a look that threatened her with insult. But the age of chivalry is gone. That of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is extinguished for ever.

Searching this thread, T-72 came up 4 times, T-90 came up 11 times and M60 came up 40 times, as opposed to the Challenger's 77 times, Merkava's 95 times and Abrams' 463 times.

I'm starting to like that picture. Especially how the commander/gunner periscope and hatch has windows on either side...that look at nothing but the inside face of the guns. And how it's articulated tracks are too far apart, and could easily cause it to be stuck on terrain. And how it has no co-ax or commander's weapons.

And they've removed the missile pods from that variant. How sad.

A vague concept of what Ramset Tanks would look like under the Imperial Refugee Fleet.

Designed for shock assaults or boarding against vehicle-scale enemies (Tank battle in a docking bay, anyone?) Ramset Organic Tanks are self-aware and alive, requiring no crew, and capable of hibernating between uses. They are brutally loyal and dangerously protective of their creators and Imperial Marines, and will do all in their power to ensure their survival, even if it means taking shots intended for their smaller companions.

Since they require no crew, these tanks are barely as large as standard motor vehicles or tankettes, this allows them to be easily transported between ships, and enables them to be easily constructed. They have a life span of approximately 23 years of activity, with functionally infinite hibernation time between.

They are armed with two sets of six-round 'mosquito' missile launchers, four forwards-facing anti-infantry needler weapons, and two starship-grade Plasma projectors.

Due to how they are made, they are remarkably fragile to initial damage, though capable of functioning after much more abuse than their technological counterparts. Their turret is only capable of 200-degree rotation around the frontal arc, and approximately 90 degrees elevation, though each main weapon can be elevated independently and engage separate targets.

The M551 Sheridan, I think, was the latest airdrop-capable tank in service. It had aluminum armor, that, really couldn't stop much and an alright gun. I'd probably choose an LAV-3 or LAV-25.

I'm thinking a LAV might be the way to go, but can it take out MBTs?

The LAV-III MGS fires much the same rounds the Abrams does, but downsized to 105mm. The armor wouldn't stop most MBT rounds, though.

You could go with the M8 Buford/ Thunder bolt but it never actually entered service and its role has now been taken over by strikers whicha ren't fully air dropable

Russian alternative would be the 2S25 Sprut-SD (or at stretch the BMD-3/4 airborne IFV).

There are several light AFVs in the sub 20ton range including light tanks and armoured cars that might fit the bill but none of them have been specfically designed for airdropping.

Of course for any kind of protection at this weight class aluminium is pretty much a must.
