It's this name-calling attitude that continues nudging the common folk towards far-right.

I have a different perspective on that. Namely, that the far-right, lacking the scruples of the right and centre-right, has no qualms with taking people's legitimate concerns and fueling them with a simplistic paranoid narrative, one that provides voters with emotionally compelling and simple answers and solutions.

A couple of years back, my nation had massive countrywide protests against a potential attempt by our incumbent president to reform the constitution and run for a third term. The thing is... the incumbent president never even implied that she would pursue such a thing, and neither did her coalition. It was all the product of a fear-mongering campaign led by right-wing politicians and mass media.

The local left had nothing to do with it. They did not start it all by suggesting that the president was so good, and the far-right was so evil, that she should stay for a third term. It was all about the right-wing and its corporate allies taking people's legitimate concerns (many felt that the president was an "authoritarian" populist) and fueling them with a simplistic paranoid narrative.

I feel that the rise of the far-right in Europe is somewhat similar: Immigration has caused problems, and people do have legitimate concerns, but it is not the left's response that drove people to the far-right's arms, but the far-right itself working hard and tirelessly over several years, even before the refugee crisis, to create a complete, emotionally compelling, simplistic narrative from a complex, often downright chaotic series of problems, both real and fake.

The left caused the immigration problem by starting 3rd world mass-migration, and escalated the problem by rejecting any and all solutions other than insisting on maintaining course full-speed ahead. The left's refusal to accept responsibility for having started the problem only serves to show the nationalists and far-right have been right the entire time in asserting the only way to stop the 3rd world mass-migration problem is to stop doing it. Britain taking control of its own borders is a good start, and hopefully the rest of the EU as well.

Question to Leavers... Do white, totally not Muslim Argentinians still get to dream of a life in rural England? Or should I start flirting with the Irish?

I'm going to confess something to the board right now, I'm depressed. Quite seriously depressed, the only thing I get up for each day is to go to work in a fish factory.
I get up to go to this fish factory, and nothing else, honestly, nothing else - so that I can afford to pay for the Master's degree I have to part-fund.

I have to part-fund it because I was depressed when I completed my undergrad degree, and missed out on the required grade for my fees to be waived. This wouldn't have been the problem, I'd saved up, but my fees came back two grand more than I'd expected.

I'd hoped that, now I've finally amassed the money to pay off this debt, I'd be able to finish my Master's degree, complete the pieces of coursework that I've simply not done because, well, I literally haven't left my bed except to go to a fish factory since February, and hopefully graduate to a doctorate.

But this... I think my future is honestly fucked. I'd semi-joked about it, but...
I'm honestly not sure how much I have left to live for. It rather depends on what state things are in, in one year's time.
I suppose there's a year for things to improve but... I don't know if I'll make it that long.
