I agree and don't: utility for the sake of it can be found in any field, but it's hardly germane to the goal of understanding each caster and respecting their expertise and how they might better handle a situation. That said, and the varied permutations along with the schools regarding magic, I suggested a conclave rather than simply divulging information."
Sandy turned to watch Anais speak, his smile changing from a general warmth to the recognition of a kindred spirit. In tone and usage, Anais sounded like a fellow academic. Perhaps she was one, perhaps her magic was also a scholarly pursuit, or perhaps some former training earlier in life involved formal discussion and dispute. Regardless, Sandy felt like he was on familiar, shared ground with her.

Looks like Amanda called it: whether from being petty nobility or from being one of the few supers in a mundane world, Baron Primordial suffers from the arrogance of power, and believes he has the right to call the shots. It's not for him to demand information from spellcasters nor say who organizes a conclave or how.
Sandy shook his head, lips pressed into a tight, thin line. He tried to match Anais' measured words, but couldn't manage: he was irritated, despite his otherwise bouyant mood. "You will organize it? Do I get a voice in how this proposed conclave is to be run? Does Anais, who proposed it? How about Sterling, or any of the other magic-workers in the Building? I think there are plenty of people who might want to help set the conclave's agenda."
Sandy's tone softened slightly as he tried to find an academic speaking rhythm. "I'm finding myself in agreement with Anais: whatever your intent, your approach leaves much to be desired. I'm afraid I'm left with the distinct impression that you think you are the decision maker for the Building's magic-workers, or least first among equals for us. If that's not the case, you're going to have to try something different."
With that off his chest, Sandy was finally able to get collegial tone he wanted, and his prior cheer returned. "Allow me to make a suggestion: we should set up a small organizing committee, for instance, you, Anais, and one or a few other people. They'll canvass the magic-workers, see who is interested in a conclave, and find out what the interested people want a conclave to do for them. It wouldn't surprise me if there people among us who want a notional conclave to do specific things, and others who want it to avoid certain things. There may even be people willing to or insistent on organizing part of it. They should all be heard out, and then the committee should try to put together an agenda that will satisfy -- or just mollify -- as many of us as possible."
