Artie was finishing up his fifth form (and he was signing it, too) under the supervision of the Board of Sporting Conduct when the door burst open.

"Ah, hello there, Chairman."

Artie turned, shocked.

"Coach?"

"Not now Art. Now, Mr. Thornburg, why the hell are you detaining one of my players on the eve of an important game? The doctors gave him the greenlight to play this morning."

The Chairman raised an eyebrow and sniffed. "Kyle Smart. I thought we had a good coach on our team. No wonder we're so inconsistant."

It was all Artie could do to avoid flattening the bureaucrat on the spot.

Kyle raised his own eyebrow. "Whatever your opinion of me is, the fact is, yeah, I am the coach. So I still demand an answer as to why you've removed one of my players on the eve of a critical game."

"His blatant misconduct...'Coach'. It's fairly clear."

"I wasn't notified. If I recall the paperwork I was briefed on, you have to clear this sort of thing with me first. You are required to have my signiture prior to removing one of my players during an in-progress competition. The World Cup of Hockey counts as an in-progress competition, Mr. Thornburg. So why was I not notified?"

Thornburg looked horrified. Artie wasn't sure if it was because he knew he was trapped, or it was dismay that bureaucratic procedure was being used against him.

Possibly, Artie mused, amused, he was horrified that bureaucratic procedure had been disobeyed.

"So, I believe I'll be taking our defenseman back with me to QoD."

"Ah, but you've been notified now."

Kyle snorted. "Tha's not how it works, and you know it, you brown-nosed bureaucrat. You have to start the entire process over. Without taking Mr. Weiss here away prior to gaining my approval. And I can guarentee you, during the Cup, you do not have my approval. You can be absolutely positive about that, Mr. Thornburg."

"We have other means of getting this approved."

"Of course. But that takes much longer, now, doesn't it?."

"Yes. But then we'll be able to grill you as well."

"Bring it on." Kyle pointed to the door. "C'mon, Artie. We've got a game to win." Smiling, Artie followed him.

Caleb Admele's Journal Entry Day 1510.

What a screw job by that Fanyboyist referee. 6 consecutive cross-checking penalties, in the 2nd period gave Teinohikira basically a 10+ minute 5-on-3 power play and they scored 3 goals. Granted it's my job to stop thier shots, but seriously 10+ minutes of 5-on-3 wears down everybody. The 23 shots during that time I stopped won't get mentioned at all, but all they'll talk about is the goals i gave up. Good that Hannah scored to make it 4-3 late after Greg (Thompson) and Issac (Maynerd) gave us a 2-1 lead, before those penalties. But dammit, its not cross-checking if the guy takes a dive.

No more news on the homefront, as the Qazoxian embassy isn't there anymore. Coach has been sending out feelers with othe nations embassies (notably Newmansistan, Taeshan and even Sarzonia's); but no one has contact with Qazox.

After 2 crappy perfomances, one by us and one by the referees, we have to face Toiletdonia and Delaclava next. We need to win at least one of those to advance.

Then - Expect this team Virabi to be much weaker here than in their Olympic second place run. Thus It'll be very unlikely that this team even gets out of the group stage, and if they do it'll be as a third place team and even then getting past the play in round will be almost impossible. Now sure, Hockey may be the biggest sport in Virabia and our fans will be in Toonmar doing their thing but, we're just not that good enough to make it past the first round. Yet.


Now: With victories against each of the teams above them, Virabia has by far out done what many people thought they'd do. These victories, combined with two wins against Canamala have propelled Virabia to second place. However, that standing is frail, and only goal difference separates Virabia, Kelssek and The Fanboyists. However, even if they are not able to hold onto second (or improve to first) Virabia will still likely wind up in third, and from the way things are looking, they would be good enough to make it through the play in rounds, and break on through to the other side.

The Fanboyists (12) - Then: They will probably do a little worse than their finish by seed. Likely dropping a vital game against Septenrionia, which will send them down to a close third. However, they will end up among the top four third placers and end up in the play in, where they will most likely make it to the knockout round.

Now: The Fanboyists have played a strong tournament so far, however, a few crucial losses including one to Virabia have placed them in third. However, with three matches to go they are likely to improve on form and end up in a close second, which could easily end up going to Virabia.

Septentrionia (15) - Then - While they are the 15th seed, we're thinking that they will have a relatively strong run, and will have a suprise win against Kelssek, but this could possibly be countered by a game dropped to Virabia. Still they will probably finish second, but they could very well finish third.

Now - Every tournament has it's dissappointments, and here that is Septenrionia who we initially predicted to be a force in the group. However, they fell far short of this standard and so far have only been able to garner two wins (including one against Virabia). After their most recent loss (2-4 v. Virabia) they have now been mathematically eliminated from being able to advance past the group stage, surely a dissappointment to fans in their homeland.

Kelssek (5) - Then - Expect Kelssek to be the juggernaut in this group. They will likely win against everyone at least once, and some teams they will go 2-0 against. Either way they will be going through in first and will probably get deep into the playoffs.

Now - They were supposed to be the feared ones, kings of the group and don't get us wrong 5-0-2 is still a respectable record, however their throne is shared with both The Fanboyists and Virabia, and due to tiebreakers they sit at third. However, they will probably improve to take the group. Still, their in one nasty clusterfuck for the lead and they will need to play their top game everyday if they want to make it into the lead.

Tarrentum - Then - They are unranked, and thus will have a tougher time winning some matches due to a lack of international experience. However, they will be a suprise team in this cup, and end up having some close wins. They will be Virabia's biggest rival for 4th and which order they fall in could be determined by one or two matches.

Now - For a first time nation Tarrentum hasn't done too poorly, however, there have been numerous reports of the team playing too selfishly. Still, overall the team has done good for a debut performence and look to place a safe and solid fourth place.

Canamla - Then - This is the team that WILL finish at the bottom of the group, and they could and are likely to go winless. Don't expect much from them except for them to be an easy six points for everyone else. However, given Virabia's performance in the World Cup (of Football), it wouldn't be out of character for Virabia to draw them.

Now - With only a draw to their name it's pretty clear that Canamala have been written out of any chance of success, and like we said they were the obvious candidate to be the cellar dweller, a role that they've fit quite well so far. However, in their remaining games they can still have an impact in sorting out the affairs of teams at the top of the group.

All and all, this group has not transpired the way any one thought it would. However, perhaps it's for the better as every game now has a huge impact, which makes every game out of Toonmar exiting to watch. Still, there is still three games left in the group phase, and in that time who knows what could happen. However, we do know one thing. If the things that happen aren't good for Virabia, you can expect a few fights.

And with that I'd like to present our panelists: Mike, the famed commentator. Aleshka, the member of the SSF, who was watching the World Cup of Hockey, and blogging about it. 'The Pessimist' - our most bashful commentator on the boards. He was the first to coin the phrase - "Shofercian hockey team ain't the SSF - they're the exact opposite". Alena - a Desantnik instructor. And of course Ozerov - Shofercia's best sports commentator and analyst bar none. And here is the question: is international hockey good or bad for Shofercia - let's hear you're initial statements."

Aleshka: "I don't see why it has to be good or bad. I don't think we participated enough to decide. Which is exactly why we should go to the next round. We need more experience."

Alena: "I pretty much agree. It's tough to win right off the bat. But I also think they need training and team cohesion. They're making a debut. And quite frankly, it is exciting to watch. Defeat, draw, VICTORY, draw, draw, defeat, VICTORY should be next!"

The Pessimist: "I don't see why it's needed. Hockey is well established in Shofercia. We don't need international exposure. There is a growing isolation movement. If you think about it, we can survive on our own..."

Moderator: "Look bitch, this isn't a forum for discussing your political views. Shofercia isn't isolationist, we never were, and the Isolationist faction in the National Assembly is a minority. I'm ok with you discussing hockey, but if you want to discuss politics, sign up for another program. We'll gladly give you prime airtime, and put up a good debater against you. We're discussing hockey, not politics, and if you try that shit again, I'll kick you out."

Aleshka: "Can I give him quick flying instructions by levitating him with my fist?"

Moderator: "Can we all get back on topic please?"

(Quick Background: The only hot-topic political debate is whether or not Shofercia should be Isolationist or Interventionist. Most of the SSF are Interventionist, because they have saved countless civilians in their operations. Most of the National Assembly and the King are also Interventionists, but there is a growing Isolationist movement. This would come out in a debate about hockey, so I had to RP it. Likewise, Shofercian moderators are trained to rapidly shut it down.)

Ozerov: "I think it's good. In terms of hockey - we thought we are all that. But that's not the case. And this victory or defeat, will allow Shofercia to compete internationally. I want to see us make the playoffs, because we need, desperately, playoff experience. So if we make the playoffs, even if we lose in the first round, I'll consider it a victory. My goal is to get Shofercia into the Olympics, and to win. In order to get in, we need international exposure. We need these kinds of stuff. Another thing I noticed, is that male and female hockey is integrated. In Shofercia it's not. Maybe we can give the integration a shot? Either way, win or lose, this will produce vital analysis for us. Which I believe, firmly, is a great thing."

Moderator: "What are the odds that Shofercia will make it?"

Aleshka: "We gotta win. We can afford only one more defeat, or two more draws. That's it. We gotta win. We need to go all out. Hit hard, take pucks to the net, score, deke, fake out the goalie, play a solid defensive game."

Alena: "We need to play like a team. If we keep playing like a team, win or lose, we'll learn something. Granted, I have low expectations for Team Shofercia, but I think that if we play as a team, no matter what, we will be the victors. Plus we already won a game, so the naysayers can go and ...."

Moderator: "Thank you Alena."

Alena: "I'm not done. Jerk. I also wanted to say that I like the idea of integrated teams. Maybe Aleshka and I can spar a bit, and if something just happens to hit the Pessi..."

The Pessimist: "What is it with all the hate? I'm just being honest. I don't the team can make it to the playoffs. It's 50 to 1 odds by Qazox. Anyone want to take that bet?"

Aleshka/Alena/Ozerov: "Yes bitch!"

Moderator: "Wow. Perhaps Ozerov can give us the analysis, and we'll go straight to the Shofercia-Antarctistan Game"

Ozerov: "Sure. But I'd prefer to do it after the game, can I give you a pre-game analysis instead?"

Moderator: "Go for it."

Ozerov: "I think we have a good chance to beat Antarctistan. We have had our ups and downs, great games and not so great games. But now we are more experienced, and we learn much faster than Antarctistan. We have have scoring from all four lines. Not to mention that we are mad at them, as we are their only draw. We can do better. Additionally Stolichnuy should be back in the pipes, nice and rested. If we keep our style of play, we should win. And we will be more aggressive, you can count on that!"

Moderator: "And we're back. Honestly that game was painful to watch."

The Pessimist: "As I said - Team Shofercia doesn't just suck, or blow, they are just outright pathetic. They played 2, arguably 3 good games out of seven. That's a victory rate below failing. Good job, sending a tired out team to the World Cup of Hockey. Who comes up with this stuff?"

Aleshka: "If you don't mind, I am going to leave. And watch something better, like ballet."

Alena: "I'll join him. I'd rather hang out with a winner than watching losers play."

Ozerov: "I think we should look towards the long term. I think there's a lot we can still learn from here. From participating. Even though now it's certain that we won't make it. For the next time, I hope we actually pick out hungry college kids, instead of champions. At the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon's commanders weren't hungry, so he lost. You need players who are hungry, who are out to score. And I don't think we're doing our best. Cause, although I disagree that our team sucks, in this game, I just have no words to describe the atrocious play. High school kids play better hockey. Uriev needs to change it to a +3 cause +5 just isn't working."

Tutlingburg ends Teiniohikira's win streak, game ends in tie

After winning 3 games in a row, Teinohikira gives up 2 points in the 3rd period that ended the game in a tie. Teinohikira played Tutlingburg in hopes to win, but didn't try hoping enough. The game ended in a 2-2 tie. Teinohikira's win streak was abolished and ends their chance of getting 4 wins in a row. Though tying, Teinohikira has been placed at the #1 spot in their group rankings! With Qazox getting embarrassed by Tolietdonia 5-1 and Mohawk Clans defeating Delaclava 2-1. The play-by-play went as follows:

Teinohikira gave up 2 goals in the last 1 minute of the game to end the game in a tie. Coach Bilbo of Teinohikira says "We played horrible, we should be ashamed of ourselves." Even though Teinohikira was placed at #1 on their group rankings, Teinohikira was not happy of their preformance. "This is probably the worst we've played, since Qazox last week." says Teinohikira RWF Alexei Borodin. "I'm afraid to play Mohawk Clans tomorrow, we could lose!" Teinohikira's win streak has been ended but their playoff dream is still alive. Teinohikira qualifies for the playoffs along with Delaclava. [Sarzonia]

After a "piss poor" performance in his previous match, Matt Peterson rewarded coach Mark Browers' faith in him by turning aside 47 shots in Sarzonia's 3-2 victory over Toyur.

More importantly, the performance helped restore Peterson's faith in himself.

"I was so disappointed with myself after my last start against Tretskivucia," Peterson said. "Coach wouldn't let me get down on myself. He all but shoved me out onto the ice today."

Peterson was the clear No. 1 star for the Stars, as Cameron Granato continued his point scoring surge with a goal and two assists. Mark Ridley added a goal and an assist and Steven Miller also scored on the power play.

Sarzonia's victory prevented Toyur from opening up a prohibitive lead on Sarzonia for one of the two guaranteed spots in the knockout rounds from the Motor Group. It also drew the teams even with surprising Euroslavia, which officially closed the door on Krytenia's chances to qualify with a 4-1 victory over the Aces.

"It was important that we get out there and assert ourselves against Toyur," Granato said. "We knew what the stakes were. A Toyur win would have sealed their deal. A draw would have done us no favours. This is the only result that would help us."

Meanwhile, left wing Sylvan Turcotte, again blanketed by multiple defenders, said their upcoming match against Western Cuba was vital.

"We lost to them last time out," he said. "We've got to keep the momentum we've gained." After the 1-0 loss to Western Cuba left the team at 1-1-2, the Stars have since rattled off four consecutive victories, thrusting the team back in the thick of the race for the group title.

Meanwhile, the Stars have all but wrapped up at least a moderately tempestuous card berth in the knockout rounds, but the Stars said to a player that was not enough.

"We want to win the group," Ridley said. "Even if that doesn't necessarily help our seeding in the knockout rounds, we want to win the group."

The Iron Tide managed a tie with Tarrentum to keep a top-3 slot in the group, and to tighten their grip on a playoff berth of some kind.

It probably didn't do them any favors that the team captain had to take off the pads and fill in as coach for the game after Coach Kyle Smart was missing in action (apparently back in the Federal Republic, retrieving an errant defenseman).

Dani Andicek and Joe Quinn had a goal a-piece, and Honorius Skmyt and Kristin Maarks each had an assist.

The game started off badly as the Falcons took an early 1-0 lead in the first period. However, in the early second period, Dani Andicek got a setup from Honorius Skmyt and found the pipes for a goal to tie the game up at 1-1. Early in the third, the Falcons manged to score again to once again give them the lead, 2-1. However, late in the same period, Maarks did a beautiful set up for Joe Quinn, who snapped one in past the Tarrentian goalie.

Acting-Coach Maarkus Stahlburg wasn't happy, but he wasn't dissapointed. "We just had to roll with the punches here. We managed to prevent the loss and keep our playoff hopes alive, and that's what really matters. I don't really think we want to win the group, anyway. Anything that'll give us that much confidence risks having us become over-confident, and then it'll be last year all over again. We're not here to choke a second time in the row, gridiron record not-withstanding."

Loss to Sarzonia leaves three-team time at group top

KYNYTHIN, QUINTESSENCE OF DUST (TP) - Toyur went into matchday 8 needing a win to solidify their grasp at the top of the Motor Group in the 12th edition of the World Cup of Hockey. Instead, they are now one of three teams leading the way on eleven points.

'Disappointing for sure,' said head coach Viktor Brandin after the game that saw the Grizzlies throw everything at Stars goalie Matt Peterson, who had struggled in the game with Western Cuba and looked to be vulnerable going into the match between the two of hockey's elite teams.

'He definitely turned it around,' Brandin sighed. 'I'm pleased with our effort because we did a lot of things right. We'll just have to come out hard against Krytenia and Tretskivucia to make sure that we go through.'

Sarzonia's big threat Sylvan Turcotte was held off the scoresheet, but Cameron Granato came up big with three points on the night for Sarzonia. Toyur's best player was Stefan Jansson, who won numerous important face-offs and added two points of his own.

Granato opened the scoring between the two teams in the second period; his shot beating Patrik Dahlin low to the stick hand side. Sarzonia were up 2-0 after Steven Miller's powerplay marker while Niklas Aspelin sat in the penalty box for high-sticking. Toyur drew one back late in the period with a powerplay marker of their own. Stefan Jansson was on the doorstep to knock home the rebound after a Niels Linderoth shot looked destined for the goal before Peterson kicked out his left pad for the save.

Toyur drew level through Petr Rasmussen midway through the third period, taking a nice pass from Olof Knutsson on the point, leaving Peterson with no chance. Sarzonia put the game away with 3:29 remaining on the clock thanks to Mark Ridley, taking a lovely pass from Granato. Toyur dominated the third period of play, outshooting the Stars 18 to 6, but could only beat a sublime Peterson once. The Stars won the contest, drawing level with Toyur on points but still behind on goal differential. Euroslavia are also level on points, but with a much smaller goal differential than both Toyur and Sarzonia.

The Grizzlies finish off the group stage with games against Krytenia and Tretskivucia, both eliminated from further competition in the tournament. Both teams will be looking to spoil the party for one of the top three teams, and Western Cuba is still within a shout. Barring major upsets, however, it looks as though all three teams at the top of the Motor Group will advance to the playoff stage. Toyur will hope to emulate their previous form in their 5-0 win over Krytenia on matchday 4. The game can be seen on TSTV1.

Toiletdonia manager had only one word to say to the players after the game and they were all happy to hear it:

"**** YES!"

Wait that's two. Sorry I'm still a bit drowsy from after the game. It was truly a great moment for the team to come up against the best team in the group and to thoroughly stuff them. 5-1 was a bit mean on a good Qazox. It was a big win after the last 6 games of pure defeat. The Toiletdonian side went into the game knowing that they had a mountain to climb but the captain yelled out the following goo advice:

"Kick 'em in the arse."

The sin bin though stayed empty despite that. Although the first period wasn't a happy one at all. The Qazox side smashed the Toiletdonian team into next week yet due to some emense goalkeeping from Jukiol. He was fuming by the end of the period and the Toiletdonian squad absolutely shattered It wasn't going to be an easy game and they knew that. They also knew that if they didn't win at least one game in the cup they weren't getting paid so the manager lifted the spirits by say the following things:

"You better bloody win this or you'll have to sleep on the street tonight you pointless lumps of mush!"

The team seemed to play better after this and they didn't conceding a single goal. Though Inos got sent to the sin bin by the ref after he smashed some poor Qazoxian defender into the side. He was sent off then. The rest of the team continued well for the next two minutes then he returned from the sin bin with vengeance. He went on to score two goals in quick succession and the Toiletdonian team seemed full of life an we nearly scored another before the interval. The manager was happy and said to the players:

"That was ****in good ya bunch of flippin' fatties. You better not throw this down the bloody drain or I'll ****ing kill you now go out there and win this bloody game!"

The team responded well controlling the rest of the game coming close on several occasions. Then Numin got the puck and skated from the halfway line to the goal area an smashed the puck home. He high-fived the other players and he went on to have a very good match. It wasn't him who scored the 4th goal though. It was me Linko Karros the captain who scored. It was an OK goal. It went in and that all you need to do at the end of the day so I've done my job. Our manager was bouncing up and down in happiness yelling:

"What flippin eejit put salt in me coffee?"

We worked out what it was code for and went on t continue smashing the Qazoxians. The final goal came from the halfway line. It was Inos who scored. It went right through the goalie and went in. Toiletdonia were now 5-1 up. Then it was full-time and we had won which is great. Finally we have taken some points away from a game and our manager was screaming with delight when we were in the dressing room:

"Who ever put the bloody salt in me coffee's going to be sleeping on the street. And well done lads see you at the street party."

Playoffs secured

Plutoni rebounded from the draw against Tocrowkia, beating Tyrrin 4-0 and qualifying for the playoffs. Jofri Spendral scored in both the first and third periods, with Smed Kubalee and Pensban Gamela scoring in the second.

Spendral's first goal came 8:17 in, off a pass from Derram Noklin that Kenneth Friedhold was unable to intercept. Cord Zhenya had a breakaway 13:40 in, but Lilam Ostal sent the puck zooming back up the ice. 5:06 into the second, Kubalee scored, assisted by Amakar Flurian and Turfli Jeamin.

Gamela's goal, at 11:12, came on the powerplay after Eirik Erling was sent to the box for slashing Amy Pilshaft. The penalty was commuted to 1:26, but by then Plutoni were cruising. Spendral scored again 4:24 into the third, assisted by Kubalee and Stefim Kalsy.

Newmanistan, Valanora, Sorthern Northland, and Cassadaigua also clinched today; the first and last of these have secured first place in the Cuboid and Impressionist groups respectively.

"Ahhh screw you Guy!" Treppi shouted at him.

Gianetti got right up into the goalie's face. "Don't think you aren't the only one who's reputation is on the line. You've heard the Supreme President's remarks about showing 'the right face' to the international sports community. As far as we know we could all be out of the PHL and on the street if we don't start winning games again!"

"Get the hell outta my face Paulo." Treppi gave him a shove, wished pushed him into the back of Robért Gradón.

"Hey, what the hell?" Gradón yelled out, his Forrumm accent tinting just a little of his speech. [OOC: If you haven't realized by his name Forrumm (which is in my region) is meant to be France] Gradón took a somewhat playful swing at Paulo, who had righted himself, but Paulo switly moved away and the punch hit Marco Feretti square in the back of the head. Feretti lurched forward and hit his head against the locker shelf.

There was dead silence.

"YOU LITTLE FORRUMM SHIT!" Feretti lunged onto Gradón and began pummeling him.

"FIGHT!" "Fight!" "Get off of him you shit!" The yells drew the attention of Calarone and of General Manager Flavius Florio. Calarone came storming out of his office and kicked Feretti off of Gradón.

"You can fight your teammate like that but you can't lay out one of The Fanboyists! You men disgust me! We'd do better with your wives out there! Now you GET YOUR GEAR OFF AND...." Calarone made a weird face, clutched his heart and began to fall back. Josoni Saru caught him.

"SOMEONE CALL THE EMERGENCY CREW!!! It's going to be okay coach. It's going to be okay." Saru did all he could to keep Calarone awake and looking at him.

Maarkus looked around the lockerroom evenly, speaking evenly, despite his obvious excitement. He was eager to complete the vengence they'd wanted to inflict on Virabia after losing in the last meeting. Not out of any grudge, but simply because he'd be damned if they lost to the same team twice.

"Yup." That was Theodur.

"Absolutely," said Dani.

"You bet." Kristin, there.

"Sure thing." Honorius.

"Yes," added Waalt.

"Got it, bossman," said Joe Quinn with a grin.

Even without a coach, the warm-ups went well. They were a well-practiced team, after all. Vaalhulm and the other goalies rotated taking shots from each of the attackmen. The defensemen helped them run live drills. Everything went exceedingly smoothly.

The pregame announcements were half-over when Coach Smart sidled into the booth. With him was a grinning, familiar face.

"'Ey, y'all," Artie said with a grin. "I'm baaaack!" Maark, Honorius, Dani, Quinn, and Theo all immediately went over to give him a 'welcome back' hug.

Then they all turned their attention back to the ice. There was a job to do.

We were tied at 1-1 when one of those cheating mother****ers slashed my kneecap and I wound up with a minor MCL tear. Luckily i could be back in a week or so, but the way we've played lately, we might not make the playoffs. Enough for now, the meds are kicking in.

BREAKING NEWS FROM QAZOX

Dear international community, the virus that has plagued Qazox for the past 4 years has been eradicated and within the next month Qazox will once again seek to open relations with the international community. While our borders are still closed to travel, our media silence will end starting on Wednesday, June 16, 1982. Our first bit of international news is we did have a Presidental election just after the quarentine and Brianna Ovizy is our new president. She did survive the virus, though her husband and two sons did not. According to our scientists, about 40% of Qazox' population died due to the direct infection itself, while approximately an additional 20% died of complications of the virus. We are still in process of ensuring that the remainder of the people infected are not able to infect others before we open our borders again. Appearently there have been some Qazoxians wandering the world, including our Hockey team, for the better part of the past 4 years and we will welcome them home regardless of their finish.

President Ovizy is scheduled to have a press conference on Thursday, June 17th...

Late Rally Leads To Draw
Tutlingburg Scores Two In Last Minute

Dareb-Tutlingburg continued it's dismal World Cup run yesterday, with a 2-2 draw against Teinohikira in yesterday's group action. After a 7-2 win against Mohawk Clans, hopes were high that Tutlingburg would continue to show it's fighting spirit and try and close the point gap between itself and the group leaders. Obviously this wasn't the case. Tutlingburg has practically eliminated itself from further play. Only a miracle would let Tutlingburg advance beyond the group stage.

Tutlingburg started the game completely flat. Hard Teinohikira fore-check and weak Tutlingburg defence let to multiple turnovers and penalties. Alexei Borodin, scored his fist of the night at 12:46 of the first when the Tutlingburg defensemen coiled with each other on a botched play, and gave Borodin a clear shot at Leblanc. After the shot, the puck skipped over his glove and in to the net. It dictated the next forty minutes of the game. Tutlingburg was lucky to have escaped the period only trailing by only a goal.

Would Tutlingburg come out of the first intermission with vigour and enthusiasm? No, they would not. Although, the defence tightened up, the offence seem to be sputtering on empty. Leblanc in goal, seemed to be fighting every puck, having trouble finding it and covering it or giving up ridiculous rebounds which had to be dealt with by already overworked defensemen. It was on one of these rebounds, that Alexei Borodin scored his second of the night beating Leblanc high glove-side. Tutlingburg seemed lifeless at this point and a loss seemed inevitable.

Tutlingburg Coach Porter must have thought differently, for he yelled at his team for the entire second intermission, in a voice which could be heard across the dressing area. According to several unnamed arena sources who heard the exchanges, players' sexualities were questioned and several choice words were used in the description of the match to that point. What every exactly was said is unknown but the effect it had on the players was very evident. The entire team play with more conviction and began to change momentum in their favour. Teinohikira, however fought with it's customary tenacity and refused to give Tutlingburg anything. Tutlingburg's opportunity came late it the period. With only 0:52 left on the clock and Tutlingburg preparing to take out the goaltender for an extra forward, Charles Worthington scored from a bad angle to put Tutlingburg behind by one. 28 seconds later with Tutlingburg's goaltender on the bench, extra man James Rowley scored the equalizer, and Tutlingburg settled for the draw.

After the game a visibly angry Coach Porter was asked about Tutlingburg's rather poor performance and whether they took their opponent too lightly.

"Teinohikira was who we thought they were! We played like "expletive deleted" and got our "expletive deleted" handed to us, and eliminated ourselves in the process. I am trying everything with these guys, but they aren't in it for the name on the front, they are much more consumed with the name on the back. Most of these players are "expletive deleted" idiots. I am so sorry that this team is disappointing all the hockey fans back home. "

Porter will most likely receive a fine for his colourful use of the English language in his press conference. Tutlingburg's next game is against Toiletdonia, who was beaten 6-1 by Tutlingburg last time they faced each other.

"Good block there man." said Alexei has he slightly hit Jimmy's helmet and skated back to his position.
"Now run the route opposite of Jorge!" Coach Bilbo yelled through a megaphone.
Alexei got the puck, swerved around Giovanni, passed it to Jorge, and shot the puck, which barely missed Jimmy's glove and went in.
"Yeah, VICTORY!!" yelled Jorge in a comedic fashion.
"Good shot man!" said Daylon patting Jorge on his shoulders.
"Now, let's run the defensive plays that you saw in the film study!" commanded Coach Bilbo.
Jorge got the puck, curved left, skated through Alexei and Giovanni, but Connor stole the puck as Jorge tried to get closer the the net.
"Good job guys!, now run the offensive plays we saw in the film study!" yelled Coach Bilbo.
Giovanni got the puck, went to the outside, skated to the left, went to shoot the puck but was blocked by Daylon, getting his stick in-front of the puck just in time.
"Next play!" shouted Coach Bilbo.
Alexei got the puck, skated straight down the middle, skate to the left, then back to the right, as he passed the net when he skated to the right, he shot the puck which went over Jimmy's shoulder and into the net.
"Alright, that'll do!" yelled Coach Bilbo. "Head to the Locker Room and rest up!"
"Good job out there guys!" said Alexei.

Breaking News-Porter Gone As National Team Coach
Assistant Coach Takes World Cup Coaching Duties

Dareb-In a stunning turn of events, Martin Porter is no longer coach of the Tutlingburg national team at the World Cup. A short press release from the Tutlingburg International Sport Competition Committee(TISCC) announced his departure and names assistant coach Melvin Burd as his replacement. No other details were given. What isn't clear at this time is weather or not he was fired by the TISCC or if he left of his own volition. All of this comes a day after a locker room blowout and a very public press conference melt-down.

Attempts to reach the TISCC or/and or team officals were unsuccessful. A source inside the team told a A.S.T. Today reporter that the decision was made from above.

"TISCC was already very unhappy with his and the team's performance at the World Cup. The tournament was coming to an end and they weren't going to say or do anything public, but this little blowout was very unacceptable to them. In their opinion, they gave him a great team and he squandered it. By putting down the team, he put down TISCC. They wanted to teach him a lesson."

Martin Porter is considered one of the greatest Tutlingburgian-born hockey coaches. Porter has been coaching hockey for over 30 years. Porter is the only coach to have coached all the teams in the ASHL's eastern conference. He lead the Tutlingburg Grenades to the best record in the ASHL this season, then lead them to the Silver Cup. Porter is well-loved for his hockey knowledge and passion for the game. The fact he is now gone will not sit well with millions of Tutlingburgians.

"Team Shofercia has recently demonstrated a stunning performance, by drenching the opponent, Mantwenic, 4-0, in their best game yet. If they can keep the tide rolling, they might have a shot at the playoffs. However that possibility seems highly unlikely. We're back in our studio, with "The Pessimist" and Ozerov to analyze the situation."

Pessimist: "I think the main point here, is that Team Shofercia played only three out of eight games well. The first two games at the start were bad, getting crushed by South Lorenya and tying Antarctistan. Then we had a good game against Mantwenic, followed by yet another tie with Eizen. We tied Valanora. We proceeded towards yet another defeat at the hands of South Lorenya, losing to Antarctistan, and now winning against Mantwenic. We have lost more than won, we have not been consistent, and this was one giant disaster."

Ozerov: "I disagree. Our first two games, we had no idea what we were doing. So let's cancel those out. We were getting used to the ice, etc. But then, things were looking well, and we played well. We scored a victory, when few believed in Team Shofercia. We followed up by a draw against Eizen, which wasn't too bad. Then we tied the group leader, Valanora. How cool is that? True, we lost to South Lorenya, again, but that was by a score of 3-2. But it wasn't a bad game. Then came the disastrous game against Antarctistan. I think after playing four decent games, we just lost our head. That game should've been 3-1 in our favor. However a team can blow a game every now and then, and still do ok. And then we proceeded to crush Mantwenic. If you think about it, if we were to play it safe against Antarctistan two games ago, and win, we'd still be up in the playoff race. Technically we still are, so not all is lost. And I would say that with the exception of Antarctistan, our play, after the first two games was somewhat consistent."

Moderator: "What advice do you have for Coach Uriev?"

Pessimist: "Find a better team."

Moderator: "That was a bit uncalled for."

Ozerov: "Play. And play well. Do the exact same things that worked against Mantwenic. And also play Aleksandrov in the pipes. We probably won't make the playoffs, much to my chagrin, but if we play well and get lucky, we still might. Either way, let's give the entire Team Shofercia experience in international competition. And another thing. We need to better integrate. The defensive pair of line one, needs to play with line two, and vice versa, for all lines, to make it so that we can change on the fly, and not lose any team cohesion, or have the need to go offside. I'm still rooting for Team Shofercia. And I'm glad that we're competing internationally."

Teinohikira rebounds, defeats Mohawk Clans

After giving up 2 goals in the previous match against Tutlingburg, Teinohikira rebounds and defeats Mohawk Clans 5-2. Teinohikira extends their record to 5-3-1. Teinohikira keeps their rank at #1 in their group rankings. Teinohikira still has a shot at going to the playoffs and finishing the regular match-days with only 1 loss. This notable is the first game where all 3 attackers scored at least 1 goal. The only other time this happened was with Delaclava last Friday. The play-by-play went as follows:

Teinohikira was impressed by their performance today and celebrated. "We owned them out there." said All-American 3-time MVP Alexei Borodin after the game. "It's good to know you can beat a team if you're a great one!" Teinohikira has named Alexei Borodin the MVP of the team and expects him to do great like the rest of the team. "We played good, and we're proud of it!" says Teinohikira Goalie Jimmy Giles. "We have the playoffs 'in the bag'!" Jimmy Giles also gives a shout-out to Qazox Goalie Caleb Admele, who suffered a MCL sprain in his kneecap. Giles says "Hope you get better man, I also hope your team makes the playoffs, they're good!" Teinohikira's next game is with Delaclava, whom Teinohikira shut-out last Friday 5-0 and lost to Qazox today 5-3.

[The Fanboyists]

Vaalhulm had been helped off the ice after letting through two goals. But it wasn't because of any percieved failure. It was more because he had nearly barfed a lung while that had happened. The game was beeing put off for a few minutes while they cleaned up the mess and helped him off ice.

Maarkus sighed. This was the second year in row one of their goalies had caught the flu. Caitlin last year, Vaalhulm this year...

On the other hand, they'd skipped the second string goalie; he'd remain second string. The young Aandrik Stok was standing between the pipes starting in the mid-second period, with Virabia ahead, 2-1. The one had been threaded in by Dani Andicek, after a setup by Maarkus Stahlburg.

During the second, Virabia took fourteen shots on goal. Aandrik deflected or saved all of them. Meanwhile, with five minutes left in the period, Joe Quinn had taken a pass from Waaltur Braannur and had slapped one into the net to tie the game up. That made it 2-2.

The final period featured 22 shots on goal by Virabia. Stok managed to block them all. Meanwhile, 19 shots on goal turned into one goal, courtesy of Kristin Maarks after a set-up pass by Theo Braannur to give the Iron Tide the lead, 3-2. They'd done their usual mode of celebration, which involved a slightly elaborate handshake and a hug in front of the beaten goalie.

And throughout the whole thing, Virabia's attackers were kept off-balance by a returned avenger.

Artie Weiss was back on the ice. And he was clean. Incredibly clean. Every hit. No trash-talk. Nice and clean. Well, except that one boarding penalty in the first that had led to a powerplay goal for Virabia. Sometimes stuff happens. On the whole, it was an exceptionally clean game for him.

As they skated towards their end at the end of the game, Maarkus called the team over to assemble. He turned around towards them.

"Hey y'all! Guess what!"

"What, Maark!" they shouted happily in unison.

"We clinched!" The team cheered, loudly, as did most of the fans in blue and grey in the stands who had heard him.
