The Teinohikira Chronicle

Teinohikira avenges tie, expands win-steak to 2

Teinohikira avenges the tie from Monday against Tolietdonia and defeats them 3-1. Teinohikira moves to the #2 spot in their group's rankings. Teinohikira is eligible for the play-offs, behind Qazox and in-front of Delaclava, Qazox lost to Mohawk Clans 3-2 and Delaclava beat Tutlingburg 3-2, Teinohikira can now go to the playoffs if they win the rest of their games. Teinohikira has now extended their win streak to 2, beating both Delaclava and Tolietdonia in a row, their longest win-streak in the WCoH. The play-by-play went as follows:

Teinohikira is rolling over team's throughout their group, and look to seek victory over their next opponent, Qazox. Teinohikira is seeking to avenge their only loss and knock Qazox out of the #1 spot in the rankings. If they don't they can still go to the playoffs OR play for the seeded play-in round. "We are beasts!" says Teinohikira Goalie Jimmy Giles. "Nothing can stop us! Except a loss, that's a barrier in our dream." Teinohikira also states that they will sign up for the next WCoH which is in a few months. "Our team's one of the best." says Teinohikira's Coach Bilbo. "This is our first time in the WCoH and we're already #2 in the group!" Tomorrow, Teinohikira plays the top-ranked Qazox, who lost to Mohawk Clans 3-2, in attempt to avenge their only loss and seek the #1 spot in their group rankings! The game will be televised at 6:00 TCT on TSPN tomorrow. "We hope to win, and expect to win." says Alexei Borodin, RWF of Teinohikira. "We've practiced hard and are ready to play a tough and hard-played game."

REID LEADS ROCKETS

High Jessieville, Quintessence of Dust- A player we haven’t talked too much about so far during this World Cup, or the prior one either for that matter is goaltender Michael Reid. Part of the reason for this is to meet the demands of the NGU, or the Newmanistanian Goalkeepers Union. It all started in World Cup 40 of the football/soccer fame when The Rocket Report did a piece on then goalkeeper Kevin Dalton. In his next game after the piece, Kevin allowed four goals and was never really the same. Hockey goalie of years ago Marty Bronstein was also once highlighted and then found himself struggling. Chris Kusler and Stanley Salone, also football keepers, also have their own stories, especially Salone in that one Di Bradini Cup. What was it, number 9 or 10? Anyway, doesn’t really matter. The fact is that the NGU, which was founded by the aforementioned Dalton, has requested that we and other media do not pay any special attention to the play of netminders during the competition. We have been respectful of that, and we asked Dalton for his blessing to talk a little more about Reid in this report. Kevin was skeptical, but allowed us this one chance, as long as we do not go overboard with it. Thanks, Kevin.

In a World Cup that has seen Rockets players get a little too distracted, with the latest infraction being a bar fight between John Bordeleau and a fan from Loudon, Newmanistan in which the fan got the worse of it (and that should not surprise you), Reid has been highly focused. At 28 years of age, he should be in his prime right now, and he has played like that with the Olympia Gladiators; earning a return trip to Quintessence of Dust. During practice and warmups, he is the last to leave the ice, standing in front of the net until the last shooters heads off the ice. Usually, that is something you may see of a backup goalie instead of the regular, but that is not the case with Reid. Michael insists that he does this at the request of the skaters who still like to warmup and practice with a goalie in front of the net, but then confesses that he does it for himself, too; saying it as if it was something he needed to apologize for. “On gamedays, I like to face as many shots as I can before the game. It helps me get my mind into it a lot more then going over game tape. That’s something that I do the night before, but on game day, I like being out there, in full equipment, and facing shots. In Olympia, my teammates love it and appreciate it, and I have noticed the same is true here. There is no replacement for on-ice game preparation.”

That is an attitude that we wish also carried over to other players on the team right now, with the charges to Bordeleau the latest act on indiscretion. Bordeleau, like Jean-Paul Parentaux who was dismissed from the team a few days ago due to the DUI charges against him, also plays his domestic hockey for the Pocono City Capitals. According to witness reports, Bordeleau was approached in a bar by a Newmanistanian fan from Loudon. Those who don’t know should be aware that the Pocono City Capitals and Loudon Leopards are absolute bitter rivals on the ice. Witnesses say that the fan insulted Parentaux to Bordeleau, and then made it an anti-Pocono City rant. It lead to a loud shouting match, and the fan shoved Bordeleau. John responded with a punch in the face to the fan. While many would say that the fan probably deserved it, it was the repeated punches from Bordeleau that got the incident out of hand, and he needed to be pulled off by the fan by other bar patrons. Charges were not filed, and the extent of non-team related punishment here is a direct order to never return to the bar again. Coach Robert Hennessy declared that Bordeleau would sit out the next two games, but would not meet the same punishment given to Parentaux. Center Casey Vernace of the Loudon Leopards promised that the incident would not create a Pocono City-Loudon division within the locker room. Casey is the only Leopard on the team. Captain Jacques Carpentier, also a Captial says he is very disappointed with his teammate moreso because he should know better at his age (30).

As for the hockey game, it was rather entertaining as far 1-0 games will go. Quintessence of Dust, hoping to get a big result in front of their home fans were eager to play a wide open style, and they controlled the early action. This is where Michael Reid was at his best, stopping six shots in the first three minutes of the game, twelve by halfway into the period, and seventeen by the end of the period. But it wasn’t only the Quodites getting the scoring opportunities as Newmanistan was also skating well, putting fourteen shots on John Romkema, with one finding it’s way into the net. With a bunch of bodies in front of the net a Kevin DeWolf shot from the point hit traffic and bounced in front of the crease. In the mad scramble to get to the loose puck, Ryan Spencer was the first to spot it and get a stick to it, sliding it between the legs of Romkema just enough to cross the line for a goal. It was close enough for the video review team to want to take a look at it just to be certain, and it cleared the line by about an inch, which was more then enough. At the time you would have been crazy to say that was going to be the only goal of what was a wide-open game, but it would hold up until the final buzzer.

Quintessence of Dust had a tense moment early in the second period when Romkema appeared to be shaken up after a hard collision between him and Brett Stuart as defensemen Kaarlo Hautaniemi tripped up Stuart on his rush to the net, sending him into the Quodite goalie. Stuart was also a bit slow to get up. To be on the safe side, Sebestyen Szöllôsi opted to make a goaltender switch and bring in Edvard Bošnik, which got a standing ovation from the crowd. Perhaps Szöllôsi had well-considered that fact that bringing in Bošnik, who plays for the local High Jessieville Cuboids would be the big spark that his team needed. It actually did provide a spark as soon as Bošnik made an impressive glove save on Trevor Anderson less then a minute after the switch. The Quodites fed off this, and took control of the game, and peppered Michael Reid with shots. It would have been a nice story for Bošnik to have rallied his team to a win, but someone forgot to tell Michael Reid about the part of the script where he was supposed to allow a goal or two. Reid made 18 more saves in the second, and 16 and the third to finish with 51 total. Bošnik did his part, stopping all 20 shots the Rockets managed on him, and was named the games second star behind Michael Reid. In the end, again, Newmanistan gets the result. It wasn’t a thing of beauty, but what is attractive is the 5-1-0 record and 3 point cushion over Taeshan.

Septentrionia fought back. Such was the opinion of the team Captain.

They'd even taken the lead at the beginning of the game. 1-0, as the first line's left-wing managed to weave one by Aandrikson. That had been an unlucky shot, really. Not entirely his fault. Granted, he was still expected to stop it, as he was any goal, but...still.

After that, Vaalhulm was on fire in a way they'd never seen before. Rather than simply use his bulk to deny Septentrionia goals, he actively caught, deflected, and fired away errant shots.

He had watched as Dani Andicek had taken a pass from Honorius Skmyt in the middle of the second period and had tied it up, snapping the shot by easily.

He had also watched as Joe Quinn had a break-away, skating down the ice quickly to backhand a shot in shorthanded in the early part of the third period.

Maarkus Stahlburg got the only penalty, which was a boarding minor. Which, as it happened, led to that shorthanded situation.

Clean, physical play, he knew, had been the difference maker. And it'd need to be more of the same against Tarrentum and Kelssek.

Goals galore

Sorry for the downtime yesterday--moving servers. Looks like we have things under control for now, we'll keep you posted otherwise.

The national ice hockey team, anyway, cruised on, following up their 6-2 victory over Sibirsky that closed out the first half of the group stages with a 7-0 crushing of Churchma to start the second half on a very high note. Both games featured hat tricks; the first from Mirsh Atzin, and the second from Smed Kubalee.

Pensban Gamela began the goalscoring against Sibirsky 4:52 into play, and Atzin followed that up with a goal in 6:58. After an Amakar Flurian shot was denied by Sibirsky, Amy Pilshaft poked in the rebound at 14:21. Sibirsky finally cracked the scoreboard 9:03 into the second half, only for Atzin to score twice in the final ten minutes of the period, with Mukwal Kuyem and Stefim Kalsy assisting on the first of those goals and Pensban Gamela on the second. Mack Chase tacked on the sixth goal, 5:30 into the third period, although Sibirsky would score again with four minutes remaining.

And even that offensive showing was dwarfed by the Churchma rematch. Kubalee's first goal came just 2:57 in, and the rest of the game was little more challenge. Matthew Wroder and Kuyem had both scored before the period was out, while Dave Strand assisted on another Atzin goal 12:04 into the second period.

Kubalee scored unassisted on a power play 4:55 into the third period, and Jofri Spendral's 6:08 goal would have made it Plutoni's highest-scoring victory of the tournament. But the action wasn't done; Pilshaft passed to Kubalee for the 11:09 goal that completed the hat-trick and the rout; it's our largest margin of victory, ever. Plutoni's goal differential is now greater than that of Cassadaigua, the only other 6-0-0 team.

Catherine Kingston was just going in to see her boyfriend when she got a text. It was from Len Rogerre. "Talk to him about Teinohikira and Tutlingburg." Kingston took her boss' order into account as she walked in.

"Ben," Catherine said, smiling.

"Catherine," Coach Ben Paktur said, smiling. "What brings you here?"

"I was just coming to see you, but Len Rogerre wanted me to talk to you about something."

"Yes, what is it?"

Just as Catherine opened her mouth to start, her phone buzzed again. It was another text from Rogerre. "Just remembered you two. Drop it. I'm going to be right there."

"Never mind then," she said, returning her phone to her pocket.

"What was it?" Ben asked, confused.

He was about to find out. Len Rogerre burst through the door right then and there. Disregarding the normal greetings, the DOC president immediately shouted at the hockey coach, "What the hell do you think you're doing?"

"What did I do?" Paktur asked politely.

"You know damn well what you did! Playing the B squad against Teinohikira AND Tutlingburg."

"I'd like to mention that we still beat Tutlingburg," Paktur said, rolling his eyes.

"It was 2-0 with two minutes to go, it took a damn miracle to win that one!"

"I just knew how to exploit Amselik on the front line. He did get all three goals. National team record, it was a span of a minute and 19 seconds!"

"That is COMPLETELY beside the point! We lost to Teinohikira 5-0! You fucking underestimated them, didn't you?"

"That's entirely possible..." Paktur muttered.

"You've now jeopardized our position in the group! We're third place in the group!"

"Wait, how? We won, they can't have moved ahead of us!" (OOC: QoD, I didn't see the tiebreakers anywhere in the OP, what are they?)

"Don't ask me how, but they did! We're competing for wild cards now, for god's sake!"

"Look, I know they're strong, but they're a fluke! We will get past them!"

"They better! If we're not at least in second by the end of this stage, you're out of a job." And with that, Len Rogerre stormed out.

"Yikes," Catherine said. "He doesn't make idle threats."

"They're ahead of us on a fluke and an unknown tiebreaker. My job's fine."

"You ready for dinner tonight?"

"I'll see you there," Ben said, and he and Catherine kissed before she left.

[Sarzonia]

A funny thing happens when you piss off a Sarzonian national team.

They get focused and play with any intensity they might have otherwise lacked.

Euroslavia found out the hard way when Sarzonia avenged its opening loss to their former allies with a 5-1 victory that moved Sarzonia back into position for a wild card berth.

"I was very pleased with our effort out there," coach Mark Browers said. "They only got one goal after Matty [Peterson, Sarzonia's goalie] made three point blank saves. Otherwise, we were flying out there and hitting hard."

Sylvan Turcotte scored once and assisted on both of Mark Ridley's goals. Peterson turned aside 17 shots as Sarzonia outshot the Chromas 27-17. Turcotte was given the number one star.

[Cassadaigua]

Andrew’s Space

Much to our surprise, the Secristani team was wearing a normal uniform prior to the game. It really made all of us grateful, because let’s face it, the SDOS got their point across in the first game in which they had to play in their underwear. Things can get old, and I bet that ratings were starting to go down a little bit, and we all know how important that is to Secristanis. Their goalie had been playing well, and had three consecutive shutouts coming into the game. Hopefully, our 5-1 victory against them will not have them go back to the old uniforms, or lack thereof. As a team, we knew that a win over Secristan would all but officially punch our ticket to the playoffs. It’s not over by any stretch of the imagination, but six point lead with just four games to go over third place, knowing that they will have head-to-head matches with one another, and that there is room for some third place teams to make the playoffs with the best of the rest spots, this victory should see us through. That said, of course we went to keep winning to ensure the highest possible playoff seed. I had a reader ask me what the atmosphere is like in our locker room given that there are teams out there that seem to be having issues within, whether it is players in the newspaper headlines for the wrong reasons or unexpected starting goalies for teams. A lot of times, those stories are exaggerated, but I can say that nothing of the sort exists with us. As the captain, I make sure of it, but the great group of people that we have wearing the pink and black makes that part of my job very easy.

Against the Millionaires (though it’s hard to actually think of the people we are playing as millionaires), we played another great game. We wanted to begin playing a wide open offensive style of hockey. The reason for this is that we thought that the Secristanis might not be very physical in the opening moments, because they might feel a new level of comfort with their jerseys, and that could mean that they may not be as tough as they had to be in order to survive my only playing in their underwear. We also thought that it might make them sluggish at the start as they got used to it. Our plan worked as Meghan Stafford broke out of her mini two-goal goalless streak with a goal at 2:08, and not too long later, my sister fired home a shot from the top of the slot to make it 2-0. I had an assist on the second goal, it’s always great when I am able to do that on Sammi’s markers, and she thinks the same about mine. At 14:27 of the period, Danielle Castleberry made it 3-0, with Meghan Stafford and myself assisting. Then on the power play in the second, it was Brian Zuchovitsky with the goal as the second unit got their name on the scoresheet. Secristan’s Kyle Zappia broke the shutout bid late in the second, but we were still feeling in control of the game. Stefanie Hughes put the game to bed midway in the third to finish off the 5-1 win, putting us at 6-0-0 overall. Next up will be Silver Beach, followed by South Norwega. They have been the group bottom feeders so far.

Caleb Admele's Journal Entry Day 1509.

We lost today. Big deal. After the news we heard from Qazox the other day, I'm suprised we all showed up to the game today. Appearently our coach got through to someone realtively big in the QSF (Qazoxian Sports Federation). We're not going home. Well we might, but it might not be home when we eventually get there. According to coach's source, supposedly over 70% of Qazox has died due to the virus that caused the quarentine. While the source didn't get into specifics, according to him/her most of us on the team have almost no family to come home to.

If all of this is true, and we all are praying that it isn't, then why even bother trying to win this tourney then? If no one we care about will be there to see us come off the plane with the WCoH trophy, does it make this almost irrelavant?

No. Not to me it doesn't. If it is true, and the virus has burned it self out by the time this tourney is done, what wouldn't be better than to bring home Qazox' 3rd Hockey title? The celebration could help bring a sense of normalcy back to Qazox. But that doesn't excuse our loss today.

While we all played horribly today, especially me, who gave up 3 goals in 2:03 in the 2nd period, to #89, #11 and i think #76. But we did manage to scrape our way back into it in the 3rd with goals from Shawn (Quentin) and Brian (Charles). But there was almost no way we were winning tonight. Hopefully we can get our heads back together and quickly as Teinohikira, who sit just 2 points behind us in 2nd place have looked good the past few games.

Mysteriously though, one of our equipment managers last night tried to contact Qazox through the embassy, and the connection was terminated from the Qazoxian side. I think that the government is tring to cover up the deaths, but that's idiotic. I mean what's to gain by not telling the world that 70% of the nation has died? We need international medical help if it were that bad. I hope that the contact was overstating the death figures. Nothing kills 70% of a population nowadays, unless it was meteor or something like that.

Artie was stretching, pulling on pants when the door to the room was knocked. A heavy rap.

He glared at the door. "Who is it?!" He made no effort to conceal his irritation. He pulled a t-shirt over his head, and cracked his back. Popped his shoulder and neck. Stood up.

"Federal Sporting Commission. Here to see an Arthur Jordan Weiss." Artie rolled his eyes as he heard this.

"Shit." He sighed. "Alright. Comin' right over!"

He walked over, aching and mildly disoriented. He glared at the deadbolt, as if this was its fault. He yanked it back, dislocating it from its bracing. He pulled the door open. Even disoriented and concussed, he was still very strong. The door swung back hard.

"Hi." He said it angrily and blearily. "What can I do?"

The agent of the FSC was a young man of middling height. The unfortunate man was starting to lose his hair, and his nose protruded somewhat garishly. "Hello. I'm James Sharps, Federal Sporting Commission. I'm here to issue an order for a hearing to be held regarding your recent conduct."

Artie listened stoicly. Well, until the end, at least. The bit about the hearing had him bug-eyed, clenching his teeth and fists. "Why?" he growled through clenched teeth.

"Your conduct. The blatant assault against other players. The racial slurs and other slander said around the ice rink. All of this has drawn attention in regards to your role in representing our nation."

Artie glared at him. "Shit, man. That's not right. Myself an' others do that all the time in the domestic league."

"You don't represent our nation there. Out here, you do. As does everyone else on the team. But I digress. That's for the board at the hearing to decide and such."

The agent paused for a moment. He looked at Artie, and pulled out a sheet of paper. "Oh. And you need to sign this form to state that you recieved the summons." Artie gave him a dirty look and signed in the space indicated. The agent pulled out a second piece of paper. "And here."

Artie sighed, and signed in the space indicated.

"Alright. So you'll be there tomorrow? There's a ticket provided in the envelope. I'll wait at the airport to escort you back to the Federal Republic."

Artie nodded, despondent. He'd miss the game against Kelssek. That game, more than any other, was important to him.

"Oh, and I need you to sign this form, too."

"How? How?"

"Sorry."

"Wasn't it obvious?"

"I'm sorry."

"Not good enough, not good enough."

"Well I didn't know."

"We should have figured it out."

"How didn't we realise that a six year old couldn't skate and the defenders didn't even give a damn!"

1-0 game "a delight" according to fans

Voters on the popular sports blog He's Had An Absolute Holocaust rated the Rockets-Grey Hawks encounter from Matchday 6, which ended in a 1-0 loss for Quintessence of Dust, as the most entertaining match the home side have played so far. In a tournament that has seen prodigous scoring throughout, including high scoring draws and huge blowouts, only one goal changed hands during sixty minutes in High Jessieville, though not for a lack of trying as the sides rained in close to 100 shots. Newmanistan claimed the lead on a goal line scrabble from a screen, which Quintessence of Dust have always historically struggled to defend. "[HHL] sides don't screen much," explained poster MetaNarrativesFTL after the game, "And this is definitely a liability at the international level."

Romkema to sit out Taeshan encounter

Despite it being perhaps their best chance to seize momentum after the loss to Newmanistan, the Grey Hawks coming encounter with Taeshan will not feature star goaltender John Romkema, who was substituted out of last night's game after taking a knock in a freak accident. "John is fine, we are simply resting him to give Edvard [Bošnik] some time on ice after he looked strong last night," explained captain Dietrich Harmann. Role for women ruled out

Despite the recent success of Cassadaigua's predominantly female team, and the disparity in performances between the men's and women's teams at the recent Winter Olympics, the QHF says it has no intention of admitting women players to the national team. Lawrence Sarmiento Memorial Trophy announced

WCoH12 organizers have announced their intention to award a one-off Lawrence Sarmiento Memorial Trophy to the best international goaltender at the tournament in Quintessence of Dust. The Trophy honours the memory of Dancouagaran goaltender Sarmiento, who had the best GAA (0.9) of any goaltender during the World Cup of Hockey 11 group stages. There are plans to raffle tickets for the awarding of the Trophy, with proceeds going to the Victims Of Unspecified Huge Fuck-Off Spatial/Temporal Whatever Nation Destroying Vortex Things Support Charity.

TOONMAR - From the above interviews it becomes clear hockey is a tradition in Virabia, one at the heart of many families, and one that is celebrated with in them. From today's interview I also gained insight into their view, which tends to be that they are doing great and that they think they are perfectly justified in everyday for doing what they do.

Off tape, I had asked how they had felt about their actions, and I had gotten quite a surprising answer, and they both said that it was ok, and they didn't see why it wouldn't be something that wasn't even more accepted world wide. This piqued my curiosity and I've decided to send out to international news outlets to see if there is anything like the Virabi Maniacs in the present or in history.

Another intriguing thing is that after looking at the two's background their responses in the interview were actually quite interesting. Outside of hockey, Jimmy is a mild mannered Radiology Tech. Did I mention he's bhuddist, and outside of watching hockey he rarely, if ever drinks.

As for Pedro, he's closer to his hockey personality but even then, with in his family, he is known as El Pazdre, as he often ends up being the one who tries to stop family affairs from boiling over. Now, these two may not be the entire Virabi Hockey Fanbase but, the two other people who were slated to be on this show were also quite similar. A brute in the stands, but a gentle peaceful person outside of games.

Now, the obvious question to this is, how do these sometimes peaceful people change into lunes who do harm to other people, for that (in part four) I will enlist the help of psychological and physiological tests done to a random selection of fans. This will include brain wave analysis and hart rate monitoring on the physical side, and simple interviews and brainwave analysis on the psychological side of things. Hopefully, in a couple of days I (along with two experts in behavioural science) should be able to report on it.

Every day, as I dig into this issue more I find, that it's not a simple problem and to ccover it will take much time. Thus, these early days will be lighter on the analysis side. Still, I aim to uncover this issue and make it clear why things are the way they are.

We're of a different stock since we are already a power in the sport and think to care we need to make deep runs in the tournament. It is the price of success, just like with the football team and the domestic clubs when they enter the Champions Cup."

"True enough I suppose. With five points separating us from Shofercia and only four matches left in the round robin, we're pretty much secured to make the next round. So how do you think the side will do once the knockouts start?"

"Well if we play up to our potential, there is no reason not to think that the side should not win its third title. Saying that, this sport has shown to be more viotale than football when it comes to the knockout stages, so I expect a semifinal appearance and then see what happens from there."

"It would certainly make the VSC happy if we were able to bring home another title. Probably happy enough to let us have a parade in Raynor City instead of Stormguard this time."

Teinohikira prepares for Qazox

Teinohikira is practicing hard for their next game against Qazox in hope to avenge their only loss and gain the #1 spot in the group rankings. Teinohikira started practice an hour ago and practiced for Qazox and more importantly Qazox's Goalie Caleb Admele. "Caleb is a tough guy." says Teinohikira Goalie Jimmy Giles. "He's fast and ready to block any goal that comes near him." Teinohikira hopes to win and enter the playoffs or the seeded play-in round. Teinohikira has only 3 top players and they are: Alexei Borodin, Jimmy Giles, and Connor Sakillai.

Teinohikira signs up for WC52

Teinohikira has signed up for the World Cup 52 and in hopes of doing great in that competition. Teinohikira's roster and coach for the WC52 have been TBD. It is unknown of who is on the Teinohikirian Team or who their coach is. Teinohikira expects to do poorley in this like as they did in WC51. Teinohikira is positive that this will happen and they will be humilated as always. No other info has been recieved from this and will be updated when info is given.

And with that I'd like to present our panelists: Mike, the famed commentator. Aleshka, the member of the SSF, who was watching the World Cup of Hockey, and blogging about it. 'The Pessimist' - our most bashful commentator on the boards. He was the first to coin the phrase - "Shofercian hockey team ain't the SSF - they're the exact opposite". Alena - a Desantnik instructor. And of course Ozerov - Shofercia's best sports commentator and analyst bar none. And here is the question: is international hockey good or bad for Shofercia - let's hear you're initial statements."

Aleshka: "I don't see why it has to be good or bad. I don't think we participated enough to decide. Which is exactly why we should go to the next round. We need more experience."

Alena: "I pretty much agree. It's tough to win right off the bat. But I also think they need training and team cohesion. They're making a debut. And quite frankly, it is exciting to watch. Defeat, draw, VICTORY, draw, draw, defeat, VICTORY should be next!"

The Pessimist: "I don't see why it's needed. Hockey is well established in Shofercia. We don't need international exposure. There is a growing isolation movement. If you think about it, we can survive on our own..."

Moderator: "Look bitch, this isn't a forum for discussing your political views. Shofercia isn't isolationist, we never were, and the Isolationist faction in the National Assembly is a minority. I'm ok with you discussing hockey, but if you want to discuss politics, sign up for another program. We'll gladly give you prime airtime, and put up a good debater against you. (Quick Background: The only hot-topic political debate is whether or not Shofercia should be Isolationist or Interventionist. Most of the SSF are Interventionist, because they have saved countless civilians in their operations. Most of the National Assembly and the King are also Interventionists, but there is a growing Isolationist movement. This would come out in a debate about hockey, so I had to RP it. Likewise, Shofercian moderators are trained to rapidly shut it down.)

Ozerov: "I think it's good. In terms of hockey - we thought we are all that. But that's not the case. And this victory or defeat, will allow Shofercia to compete internationally. I want to see us make the playoffs, because we need, desperately, playoff experience. So if we make the playoffs, even if we lose in the first round, I'll consider it a victory. My goal is to get Shofercia into the Olympics, and to win. In order to get in, we need international exposure. We need these kinds of stuff. Another thing I noticed, is that male and female hockey is integrated. In Shofercia it's not. Maybe we can give the integration a shot? Either way, win or lose, this will produce vital analysis for us. Which I believe, firmly, is a great thing."

Moderator: "What are the odds that Shofercia will make it?"

Aleshka: "We gotta win. We can afford only one more defeat, or two more draws. That's it. We gotta win. We need to go all out. Hit hard, take pucks to the net, score, deke, fake out the goalie, play a solid defensive game."

Alena: "We need to play like a team. If we keep playing like a team, win or lose, we'll learn something. Granted, I have low expectations for Team Shofercia, but I think that if we play as a team, no matter what, we will be the victors. Plus we already won a game, so the naysayers can go and ...."

Moderator: "Thank you Alena."

Alena: "I'm not done. Jerk. I also wanted to say that I like the idea of integrated teams. Maybe Aleshka and I can spar a bit, and if something just happens to hit the Pessi..."

The Pessimist: "What is it with all the hate? I'm just being honest. I don't the team can make it to the playoffs. It's 50 to 1 odds by Qazox. Anyone want to take that bet?"

Aleshka/Alena/Ozerov: "Yes bitch!"

Moderator: "Wow. Perhaps Ozerov can give us the analysis, and we'll go straight to the Shofercia-Antarctistan Game"

Ozerov: "Sure. But I'd prefer to do it after the game, can I give you a pre-game analysis instead?"

Ozerov: "I think we have a good chance to beat Antarctistan. We have had our ups and downs, great games and not so great games. But now we are more experienced, and we learn much faster than Antarctistan. We have have scoring from all four lines. Not to mention that we are mad at them, as we are their only draw. We can do better. Additionally Stolichnuy should be back in the pipes, nice and rested. If we keep our style of play, we should win. And we will be more aggressive, you can count on that!"

Teinohikira gets revenge, defeats Qazox

After a embarssing loss to Qazox last time, Teinohikira gets their revenge and defeats Qazox 4-3. Though Teinohikira won, Delaclava is ahead of them on wins. Teinohikira is now #3 in the group Rankings and #1 in the best 3rd place teams. Teinohikira is glad to get revenge and now only has to worry about Delaclava on Wednesday. Teinohikira also extends their win streak to 3! The play-by-play went as follows:

Sharps, as it happened, was kept waiting for a bit longer than he would have liked. Almost a full day.

Artie had been tempted to jump-plane entirely, but he figured that wouldn't not be a good career move. So he'd simply dragged out as long as he could. By sneaking over to see the game against Kelssek.

He'd been very pleased. Vengence had been served with a 5-2 score. Theo Braannur had a hat trick on them, and Dani Andicek had had two goals. Maarkus had had two assists, and Joe Quinn had an assist, as did Kristin Maarks. One of Braannur's goals had been a break-away while the team was short-handed after an offsides penalty.

He was also pleased to see that that Sven guy who'd roughed him up last time got a lot of attention from the enforcers. Pretty cleanly, actually. He'd held his own in the one fight with one of the enforcers, but both had been pulled apart after a few moments, and both had been assessed a minor. Of course, Sven also got some attention from Maarkus, who had made no attempt to even be subtle about boarding him at one point to prevent him from getting the puck.

But, he was glad to see, they'd kept focused. And they'd delivered a big-time upset to Kelssek in the process, beating them by the same margin as they'd lost before. Not a shutout, to be sure, but almost as good.

So Artie was rather cheerful as he walked up to the gate where Sharps was waiting impatiently.

"You missed your flight," Sharps said crossly.

"Big whup. You're an agency honcho. You can book another one." He snorted, and made no attempt that the added inconvenience only made him happy.

Sharps didn't even bother to respond, instead simply giving Artie a dirty look before stalking off to book a new flight.

Halfway back to the Federation, Sharps looked over at Artie, who had taken the window seat ("What poor bastard is going to stay in my way if I need to get to the bathroom? You?" he'd said about that) and asked suddenly.

"How was it?"

"Huh?"

"The game. The one you missed your flight for. You were seen in the crowd. Filmed, actually. You were visible on the televised game when they panned the camera around the crowd."

Artie leaned back, smiling contentedly. "It was perfect. Couldn't have done a better bit of revenge myself."

"I notice that that Sven guy who knocked you out last time..."

"Was pulled from the game nursing his leg? Oh yeah. That was pretty nice too. But the score was nicer."

"What was it again."

"Five to two." He savored the words. The win had simply made the Tide's case for a playoff spot, and a good one, at that, that much stronger. Win the group? Nah. But it didn't really matter. Truth be told, that'd relieve him more. They'd be less likely to choke if they didn't have reason to be all that confident going into the playoffs. And that they'd get there now, he didn't have the slightest doubt.

Grizzlies top Motor Group after another shutout, revenge win

KYNYTHIN, QUINTESSENCE OF DUST (TP) - Toyur has started the second half of the group stage of the World Cup of Hockey brightly, after a pair of games where the Grizzlies once again shut out Western Cuba, this time 3-0 instead of 5-0, and reversed the early 5-2 loss to Euroslavia with a 5-2 win of their own, with both victories coming at lovely Finntasia.

Toyur are now in the driver's seat in the Motor Group, two points up on both a surging Sarzonia, and a fading Euroslavia. Sarzonia also got their revenge against Euroslavia on matchay 6, setting up the upcoming matchday 8 showdown between the top two ranked teams in the group. A win would almost guarantee Toyur a spot in the next round, a loss would mean that the Grizzlies would have work to do against both Krytenia and Tretskivucia.

A goal in each period saw off Western Cuba on matchday 6. Mattias Nylen opened the scoring in the first period for the Grizzlies, tipping in an Olof Knutsson point shot past the Western Cuban goalie. Toyur doubled their lead on the powerplay in the second period, with Niels Linderoth doing the goalscoring honours in beating the goalie for Toyur's second. Alex Samuelsson finished off the scoring for Toyur midway through the third, a rare goal for the usually defensive-minded winger.

Toyur rode a strong second period against Euroslavia, breaking a 1-1 tie early on in the period and going up 4-1 after two periods. The teams traded goals in the third, with Toyur winger Jakob Hjerstedt getting his third of the night into an empty net. Despite the scoreline, the game was fairly even for two of the three periods.

Toyur now go into the game with Sarzonia knowing that a win will greatly increase their chances of moving on to the next round. The game can be seen on TSTV1.

After coughing up three goals on just 15 shots, Matt Peterson had a simple comment.

"I fucking sucked."

Fortunately for Sarzonia, the rest of the team was able to rally. Sylvan Turcotte was held scoreless, but Cameron Granato stepped back into the spotlight by scored twice. Ray Olendorff added a goal and Mark Ridley scored the winning goal with 13 seconds left to give Sarzonia a 4-3 victory.

Peterson skated up to coach Mark Browers and made a very simple request.

"Start Kieran tomorrow," he said. "I just don't have it right now."

Browers was blunt.

"Don't be silly."

Of course, the fact that Sarzonia's next match is against Toyur might have something to do with that. All the Stars knew the stakes. The teams played to a 4-4 draw in their previous meeting and Toyur are two points clear of the Stars in the table.

A victory for either team would go a long way toward sending that team into the knockout rounds. Another draw would favour Toyur.

For Browers, the fact that Granato raised his game with Tretskivucia focusing so much on Turcotte was vital.

"Everyone knows our offence flows most easily through Sylvie," he said. "So we know they're going to focus on stopping him."

Nordics hold on to draw

The national ice hockey team dropped their first points of the group stage, drawing 1-1 with Tocrowkia. While the Nordics attacked consistently throughout the game, their raw ability translated into but one goal, through Karla Stauss with a minute to play in the first period. Stauss was assisted by Hugo Schiller and Leonhard Trompeter.

Plutoni quickly equalized, with Jofri Spendral setting up Amakar Flurian 4:34 into the second period. After that, however, Max Nestle baffled wing after wing for a frustrated Plutoni. When other defensive lines took over, Plutoni had slightly more opportunities, but Adelinda Bopp held up under the pressure.

There was a brief 4-on-4 in the third period, after Audrey Haviland's provocations riled up Matthew Wroder enough for both of them to be sent to the penalty box. They rejoined play shortly after, and Haviland took several quick shots, but most were off-target and Lilam Ostal easily handled the others. Plutoni and Tocrowkia stay first and second respectively in the Teapot Group, and Plutoni haven't lost all vicarious bragging rights; Cassadaigua, the other 6-0-0 team, were also held to a 1-1 draw by South Norwega.

Tarrentum Team Hotel - Conference Room B

"...PURE AND UTTER BULLSHIT! You're playing like shit out there and this is what we have to show for it?" Calarone pointed to the screen where a video showing the final seconds of their 1-1 tie to Canamla was being played out. "A TIE? With Canamla? What happened? We're down 2 - 0 to Kelssek in the first and you revert back to pussyfooting around playing PHL HOCKEY ON AN INTERNATIONAL LEVEL! We're Tarrentians! We are playing for any PHL team! You think I'm going to let your selfish hockey play go without saying anything?"

He looked around the room. His players were acting like men, looking him in the face but he knew they already knew what he was going to say. He still needed to say it.

"DAMMIT GENTLEMEN! We're letting glory slip through our fingers! We were poised to once again show this world how we belong on this international stage! But you're just pissing it away! Now we're going to have practice tomorrow and we're going to go back to fundamentals, back to international play!"

Calarone started to walk out the door.

"And one more thing. Alcohol allowance is out!"

"Arthur Jordan Weiss, please stand." The leader of the panel sitting on the dias looked down at Artie, in a manner he could have sworn was condescending. Like the former street player, the tough guy, wasn't worthy of being in their decision room. Artie, for his part, stood and glared sullenly at them. He rose, but he managed to convey in the motion that he'd really rather not, simply because they'd asked him to. A few signed slips of paper assured of his attendence of the hearing. And of his agreement to the terms of the hearing.

They paused, and he could have swore it was simply for dramatic effect. "We have called you to this special hearing because of reports of your misconduct in your competition. It is not simply here at home, but also abroad, representing this great nation, where your misconduct has cast a pall on the team representing the country. The purpose of this hearing is to examine that misconduct, and to determine the proper disciplinary measures to be utilized against you. Your testimony will be required at times. You will be required to swear an oath of honesty. Do you understand."

Artie sighed. "Yessir."

"You may be seated." Artie remained standing.

"I said: 'you may be seated'."

"If it's all the same, sir, it was a long flight an' I been sittin' a long time, an' I druther stand."

The chairman of the board looked at him, and said dismissively: "Fine. Then let's begin."

The hearing felt like it dragged on for hours. Droning and droning and droning and droning and droning and droning... Misbehavior, misbehavior, misbehavior, blah, blah, responsible.

Artie sighed. It wasn't like he hadn't gotten the exact same talk from the others before the incident. He didn't need another talk after he'd learned his lesson. That was what was called redundancy, after all.

Finally, after a few hours of waiting...

"Arthur Weiss, please rise." He stood up, awaiting judgement. He sighed. He knew what was coming.

"Arthur Jordan Weiss, you are hereby dismissed from the Fanboyist national team for the World Cup of Hockey, are hereby barred from participation in all future international events, and will face a ten-game suspension in the FHL."

Artie nodded, resigned to the fate assigned to him. He sighed. No room for an old-fashioned street player these days, was there?

"Dismissed."

Artie turned around and headed out of the building. Even if he couldn't play, he would damn well go and see things through to cheer on his team-mates. They couldn't bar him from that.

Of course, he'd have to go fill out his paper-work, first.
