Species Name: Khallarae

Homeworld Information: Orbiting the blue star named Shkarrakka is the mountainous planet Alara. Despite its low temperatures, and constant climates it is host to a large, and diverse amount of life. The equator is mildly warm, and host to most of the world's biodiversity. A small amount of non mammalian life thrives in the seas and forests. The farther from the equator the less non mammalian life can be found. Mammals make up seventy five percent of the animal life on the planet. This is due to the planet's low temperature, and largely mountainous terrain. The world is barely tilted on its access, meaning that there are no distinctive seasons. Something odd about the planet is its extremely high amounts of silver. Silver is one of gthe most common elements in Alara, and the lifeforms on the planet have developed to require it.

Species Description (You may use images): The masters of the harsh world of Alara are the Khallarae. Resembling bipedal canines the Khallarae are tall lithe creatures. Their heads are very reminiscent of wolves, but their teeth are flatter and sharper, and their eyes are larger and completely black. Their bodies are completely covered in fur, helping them deal with harsh cold. Fur color can range greatly. Most common colors are white black and grey, but dark shades of green, blue, and even red are not uncommon.

Khallarae have unique blood chemistry. Their blood uses cobalt and silver as a means of transporting oxygen and nitrogen. Their bodies use both of the gasses instead of just oxygen. Khallarae blood is black due to the large amounts of silver nitrate. Needless to say silver is extremely important in the Khallarae diet. This causes a unique problem for them. In order to consume the correct amount of silver needed to survive it is best for Khallarae to consume meat indigenous to their homeworld. It is possible however for Khallarae to survive by consuming silver supplements.

The average height for a male Khallarae is between 1.9 and 2.1 meters tall. Females average between 1.7 and 1.8 meters in height. Males tend to be very strong and fast for their size, but traditionally males are not considered to be very intellectual. Females are not as physically capable as their male counterparts, but tend to be more intelligent. Because of this intellectual things are considered to be effeminate.

Only one in three births are female. It is believed that the lower number of females, and the tendency for females to pursue intellectual paths, is the reason that the Khallarae were almost entirely matriarchal for most of their history. Males do have all of the same rights as females, and they are gaining far more representation within the higher echelons of society.

Khallarae are almost entirely carnivorous. Early Khallarae hunted, but herding has replaced the practice. They still maintain the mentality of hunters though. War and hunting are considered to be one in that same for Khallarae. This has shaped their military doctrine for millennia.

Military service is mandatory for Khallarae in the Alaran Empire. Even those who are considered unfit for service are required to undergo some combat training, making the empire one of the most well defended nations in the galaxy.

History: The history of Alara is long, with many interesting and important stories, but dominating the history of the world is the Most Divine Empire of Alara. For thousands of years Khallarae lived primitive lives. Most were nomadic, following the herds of prey animals, and fighting other clans for control over them. What other species knew as war the khallarae called the great hunt. They believed that if they were to fight other Khallarae it should be to the death, so when two clans fought only one would remain in the end. That was how life was. That is until one clan changed the world.

Two clans began to fight over a particularly large herd of animals. One of them easily dominated the other, but instead of destroying them they allowed their rivals to join them. They continued to do this until their clan was massive. They started to give ultimatums to the clans they conquered. Either they could be destroyed, or they could serve their conquerors. This allowed the clan to create the first professional soldiers Alara had ever known.

The practice of subjugating rival clans caught on quite quickly across the world, and soon many nations began to spring up. One nation rose that would change the course of history forever. A nation began to conquer all of its neighbors. It grew to be massive, and powerful. Eventually the chief clan of the nation began to be called the Imperial clan. Over the course of two thousand years the Imperial clan dominated, and subjugated every other clan in Alara. Over this time the subjects of this empire began to look to the their leader as a divine being. The Empress eventually began to be revered as a sort of demigod.

Something strange happened after all of the clans had been subjugated, and all of the world brought under control of the empire, peace. A great technological renaissance started, and Khallarae were soon exploring the other worlds in their system. Not all was well though. Overpopulation was becoming an extreme problem, so the imperial clan allowed the other clans to go out, and colonize other worlds. As long as the clans still bent their knees to the Imperial clan they were granted self determination. The empire basically became a federated nation with clans ruling how they want under Imperial supervision. This has allowed the empire to exist for a very long time without any large civil disturbances.

The empire, and her clans are aggressive expansionists, and are not afraid to fight over what they perceive as their territory. They ave fought many wars with other races, almost always ending in a Khallarae victory. Many other members of the galactic community generally dislike the Khallarae for their aggressive expansionism.

Technology and Fleet Information (Keep it reasonable): Khallarae technology is most advanced in three categories

The first is cybernetics. All Khallarae are required to have an implant that connects to their brain, and can diagnose medical problems instantly. The implant can be upgraded to serve a massive amount of purposes. Aside from this Khallarae often use cybernetic limbs to aid those with disabilities, but only if the individual desires. An oddity in Khallarae society is the reverence for the disabled, believing the gods made them that way to for a reason.

The second great technological advancement is in magnetics. Khallarae ships move by use of a monopole. Khallarae weapons are also either Gauss cannons, or rail guns.

The final great technology they have access to is the ability to generate, and travel through wormholes.

The Khallarae military is large and powerful. Perhaps their great military success is due to their unique perception of war. Their ships are always pitch black, and there is a great emphasis on stealth. Their ships have no emissions, and do not produce a heat signature, making them difficult to detect. They use railguns to destroy targets from extreme distances. Battles between Khallarae forces can take months. Sometimes even longer than a year.

Their greatest weakness can also be their greatest strength. Believing that stealth is their greatest defense has caused a lack in development of defensive technologies. If an enemy can get close to a khallarae ship things will likely not go well for the khallarae.

when combat gets ground side Khallarae like to use their ships to perform orbital bombardments to blast their enemies in to submission, but when that doesn't work they rely on fast moving infantry strike teams. Khallarae believe that large ground forces are unnecessary when air power can blast away most of an enemy. The ground teams are just their to clean up, and restore order.

Bringing in an oldie, but also changing it

Species Name: Arae

Homeworld Information: In a system they call "Araekireau", the planet is called "Araesala'a" the root word, Arae, is added to each, as each has meaning about the Arae's place in it. It has a comet belt , though the comets are easily passable by most ships of any race. The comet belt is visible in the sky throughout the whole year. The gases in the atmosphere are 50% Oxygen, 20% Nitrogen, 2% Methane, 1% Neon, 7% Argon, 15% Hydrogen, 5% Nitrous-Oxide.

Their home biome somewhat resembles a tundra, though it is immediately surrounded by dense forests. Continuous mountain ranges stretch through the two. Going far enough south brings jungle, with very few examples of actual deserts. Around all Arae settlements is a similar tundra-like terrain, even when surrounded by jungles. The average temperature of these areas, of course, shifts based on the region of the world. The "tundra" appearance comes from a good deal of dirt and very little grasses or trees.

Also of note are crystal fields. These are fields scattered across the planet where massive crystals form forests of their own right. This phenomenon is unknown to any nearby planets,

Species Description (You may use images): There is no definite form for the Arae. They are shapeshifters. If their legends are to be believed, they were once a group of crystals which gained life, and eventually flesh. Though this is called into historical debate, and seems highly unlikely, they skeletons do display an unusual amount of crystalline properties. It has been viewed that they have mastery over their skeletal structure, able to rearrange them to take new forms. Similarly, they appear able to rearrange their muscles and dermis to accommodate the change. They are, however, limited to their relative size. They can, through some microscopic means unknown, change their skin tone and the most skilled can even produce a crystalline exoskeleton. Those two, however, take a degree of skill practically unknown. It has also been reported to be quite painful.

History: The Arae have little known ancient history, as most of their tombs contain little more than crystals in their coffins. Primitive Arae, upon gaining some reminiscence of their current form, appear to have lacked their flesh, or had little, and photosynthesized to gain energy. Over time, they learned to shape themselves, they began to use sharp appendages to drain energy from other creatures. Though this was not as effective, is provided a pleasure to only be described as primitive taste. As this became the more popular form of feeding, the ones who could better blend in became more desirable and could feed more. This started as the ability to change color, but it seemed too artificial. Over a very long period, they gained their current form. Paleness was originally desired so as to have more sunlight intake, but now serves as more of a vestigial aesthetic due to more developed flesh. Now, able to blend with organic creatures, they are free to parasitically feed. It can be implied that this was the cause for the degradation of their surrounding biome into a tundra-like state.

It is unknown when exactly they achieved space travel, and it is likewise unknown how many "dormant" colonies they've laid, archaic Arae of a still crystalline form, surviving on soil and sun, waiting to be wakened.

Technology and Fleet Information (Keep it reasonable): Mostly crystal-based, made from their home which contains an abundance of such. Weapons typically consist of crystalline light amplifiers (CLA), which is basically a laser, as well as "Monoclinic bombs" which are, essentially, big spikey wads that penetrate something, then explode. This is most effective at tearing away armor or destroying hull due to the initial dig-in. There are many types of ships, most sharing the crystalline type. Their color determines what rank it is. The selected type, due to a connective nature of the Arae, is able to morph shape with their effort. This amounts to being able to "close a door" by making it part of the wall. These ships tend to be quite fragile, but are usually unharmed by photon-based weapons like lasers and usually use pirated shielding systems (if such things exist). The ability of the ships to bend light around them provides a camouflage.

The Halaza is the flagship type, amethyst in color, and is the top of 9 exponential ships.

These people were originally crystalline, hence so much emphasis. I've changed them to fleshy to put forth their "parasite amongst us" trait, which was their initial purpose. A fear factor, if you will, to make their original rp interesting. I've kept their basic premise, though. Shapeshifters who cannot change relative size, a curious species. They usually mimic whomever they happen to come upon as a survival mechanic.

Fun fact about their religion: they call the nearby comets "mothers".

I know this may all seem crazy, but I usually wind up having to redo everything if it is too tame

Levis Avara, regarding your IC post.

You are really going to have to work on it. For one, its on the short side, especially for your very first IC post. I would normally tolerate posts of that size later on, but if you are starting with that, I can only imagine the size of later posts. In addition, you need to work on the construction of your post, both in terms of format and grammar. Put spaces after punctuation, and break up your really thick blocks of text into smaller segments.

I expect better next time.

Shapeshifting might become a really interesting mechanic, as Replicators can also shapeshift, in an awfully T-1000y way.
It would be interesting if Arae and Replicator agents were both present, perhaps within the societies of other players, and were trying to root each other out.

Yours was actually of good length. I also thought it was well written, and it certainly was fun to read.

For you other players, Bunkeranlage's first post is a good length to aim for.

I would also care to note that post length won't be all that important later on, when people are interacting all over the place. What's most important is that you be descriptive and that your post be fun to read, or at least fairly easy to get through (i.e. no unbroken bricks of text)

Use your best judgment. I would say no more than 10 major colonies. You can have stations and outposts galore, bot not that many actual systems colonized.
