"Yeah sure it is a premier inn but it better than the rat hole."

"Yeah it was so what are you plans for next game?"

"I don't know I might copy Delaclava's tactics."

"That's a good idea."

"I know they thrashed that other team."

"That was some good play from them."

"What are you going to do to us?"

"YOU PLAYED TACTICS IN THE LAST WCoH YOU PLAYED A GOAL TENDER AS A STRIKER!"

"Oh *sob* it's true!"

"AND YOU WERE A DEFENDER YOU DECIDED TO GO UP FRONT AND ATTACK!"

*Cries*

"AND YOU MANAGER YOU ONCE PLAYED 1-1-2 WHEN YOU ONLY HAD ONE STRIKER FIT!"

"Yes I know but I put that I was trying the player in a new position in my notes."

"NO YOU DIDN'T I KNOW!"

"Yes I did look."

"WAIT BUT I KNOW ALL I'M THE EXILOR I CAN NOT BE DESTROYED BY BRAIN DEAD HOCKEY PLAYERS!"

"So what should we do now?"

"Ah pizza's here."

Andrew’s Space

It seems like only yesterday that we skated off with the World Cup of Hockey, a title that set off a string of great runs by our national teams in other sports. It means that we all have many great memories of Quintessence of Dust. We were a little surprised that the World Cup would come back here but it is very uncommon for the same nation to host two consecutive editions of a tournament that is not by its nature, always held in that country. As a team, we are very happy to be returning to the site of our great win. They did a great job hosting the last event, and now that things are cleared up about the sudden death overtime procedures, I don’t think there will be any problems this time. Most of our team is the same, with the big exception being that Kathleen Doyle has retired from international play. She had been our captain and front line center, and at 32, we thought she would still be able to come back for this one, until we heard the other news. Kathleen is pregnant, so now it all makes sense. Pregnancies can often shorten a sporting career in Cassadaigua, it’s just one of those things about our culture. Most women who want a successful sporting career hold off on it and are on the pill or use another means of birth control, but that is not always the case. And when it is, there’s only so long a woman can wait before finishing off her sporting career and deciding when it is time to begin having a family. Meghan Stafford, who stared in a fashion show at the beginning of the last World Cup will take over Kathleen’s top line spot. At 20, it’s a big role for Meghan, but she played so well for us last year, we are not worried about her picking up the slack. Meghan is also wondering if she can star in a fashion show again here. She seemed to be a hit. For myself, I received a great honor in being named captain of the team in Kathleen’s place. I had been an alternate before hand, and to be the successor is really quite prestigious. Male Equality Now (MEN) has been all over this, making it a point to emphasize that a Cassadagan male can indeed play a large role in national sports. I guess that is cool, and I will be thrilled to work with MEN, and it’s president Phillip I. Grant when I get back, but really right now, I want it to be about my abilities and not just my gender. I have the full support of my teammates and that is very important to me.

Our group should be pretty competitive, and the win we picked up last night against Secristan was important. We know that The Babbage Islands should be very strong as well, just like the Millionaires within our New Cleethorpes group. Also, Ad’ihan is a pretty good team. They don’t usually contend for the title, but will usually make the playoffs, and they can beat anyone on any given night. South Norwega and Silver Beach are the new nations, and I think the four ranked teams in this group will make it very hard on those two to have much success. I was very happy to get that win over Secristan though. Through some kind of communication error, they never signed up for the last World Cup officially, and the former top-10 team certainly wants to make up for that. They fought hard, keeping it at 1-1 until the third period. Adrienne Gaucher got the first period marker for us on a power play and it stayed until they tied it in the second. In the third though, Meghan Stafford showcased her stickhandling skills in getting around the defender, and then firing it past the goalie at the 11:15 mark. A goal by the third line at 14:03 sealed the deal. Allen Johnson delivered the slapper for the goal, set up well by Stefanie Hughes, who is a World Cup of Hockey rookie. The first time nations are our next opponents, and naturally we can’t look past those games and towards Babbage and Ad’ihan.

Hat Trick Much?

That's the question asked to Dani Andicek after a 5-3 opening win over Septentrionia, in which the offenses were prolific.

Andicek accounted for a goal in each period, and was assisted on each by Honorius Skmyt, Maarkus Stahlburg, and Joe Quinn respectively. She also assisted Joe Quinn on the go-ahead goal in the third period. Theo Braannur accounted for the tying, clinching second-period goal. He was assisted by Kristen Maarks.

Septentrionia looked like they had it early, though; they scored two in the first period, and one more in the second to give them a 3-1 lead, which was then shortened to a 3-2 lead by Andicek, then was tied by Theo Braannur's late-period, short-handed goal. Joe Quinn was assisted by Andicek on a breakaway in the third-period to put the team ahead, and Andicek scored one final goal, solidifying their lead.

Coach Kyle Smart was pleased by the game's result.

"It's a great feeling to know there's so many dedicated, talented players here representing this nation. To know that there's players here who bring 110% on the ice, and can score at any time, and who don't back down in a down-by-two situation. Dani's playing was phenomenal, and I was really pleased by the way everyone supported and backed one another up. None of them were selfish out there, and that's really the best thing I saw from this game. They're a real team."

There were two fights, one where Artie Weiss' trash-talk caused two Septentrionian to try to take him on (they lost) and one in which an un-called slashing penalty occured against Joe Quinn. Naturally, he went through great lengths to smash that unfortunate against the boards repeatedly, getting him a boarding penalty, and eventually causing a fight between the two (Quinn won it, too).

[EDIT: Our overly enthusiastic editor misreported that Joe won the fight. Apparently according to him, our players win every fight. I'm fairly sure this is not the case; the fight was actually broken up before progressing very far]

The Iron Tide will face a major test against Kelssek tonight. Kelssek opened against Tarrentum last night, and won in a 1-0 nail-biter. With any luck, the Tide will succeed where Tarrentum failed, and will not only hold their own against Kelssek, but win out in the end.

Maarkus was waiting for Artie as he skated off the ice.

"What the hell were you thinking."

"Wasn' thinkin' nothing. Just like always. This game is instinct, Maark. Thinking is for other places. Not the ice."

Maarkus shook his head as they entered the team-room. "One of these days, the fact that you hit everyone, and fight everyone is going to get us in trouble. You got off with it this time, but what about next time? Or the time after? You can't keep it up, Artie. And even if you don't get us in trouble, what if your luck runs out? You've boasted that you have yet to lose a fight, here or at home. Well what if the first time you do lose a fight, it kills you?"

Artie shrugged. "Then it'll kill me. I ain' gonna change the way I play for anyone's sensibility. It's how I've played since I was a kid on the streets in Northwatch. It's how I played in school. It's how I play now. It's part of me, Maark. I know you've been able to bring that aggressive side of yourself under control, but I just can't. It's too vital to me playing well and being useful for y'all."

Maarkus sighed. "I just wished you'd be a little more restrained. None of us wants you hurt, hell, we don't want anyone else getting hurt, either."

Art sighed right back and looked at him.

"You know the news that came through last night? We ain' comin' back. Not you, not Dani, not me, not Vaalhulm, not anyone that don' refuse to return to the domestic league. I know for a fact that you ain' giving up the Crimson, Honor's not leaving the Saints, Dani's not going to leave the Valk's, and Vaal and I ain' leavin' the Mariners. This is our last chance to win a title. Our last chance to fulfill that dream, Maark. I'm not failing to reach it because I refused to hit someone." Art turned, and walked toward his locker.

"I'm just saying be careful, Art. None of us wants you to miss out on that dream because someone ended your chance at it because of how you play." Maarkus walked over to his own locker, and started changing.

"Jesus Christ look at the rack on that one!" Lenny Quagmire said as he adjusted his sunglasses. He and his Kouhawg Shenanigans teammate Pietro Gryphon had just walked into a local diner near their hotel hoping to find someplace serving alcohol in the early morning hours. Upon walking in they noticed a large crowd had gathered already, many of them talking about the upcoming games.

"Wait...she looks familiar...in fact all of these people do...Oh shit!" Gryphon's jaw dropped as recognition hit him.

Quagmire and Gryphon had stumbled into a bar full of Eizen Hockey Supporters, many of whom had learned of the team's accomodations over the internet, and knowing the drinking habits of their favorite players many of them had staked out this bar and grill in advance hoping to get an early morning glimpse of their heroes.

It was a mad stampede towards the front as autograph seekers and puck bunnies rushed forward in an instant. Gryphon and Quagmire thought they were going to be buried underfoot when a loud booming voice screamed "HEY JACKOFFS!"

Everyone instantly turned, shocked to find that somehow fellow teammate Defenseman Mack Matthews had discretely made it behind the bar. Clutching a bottle of what looked like poor quality tequila, he raised the glass bottle to his face and bit the cap off, the glass making a crunching sound in his teeth.

"You fuckers want to party or what?"

Four hours later

Almost the entire city block was on fire, Eizen hockey fans were pouring away from the area in droves, many of them with deep cuts hoping to get to the stadium and watch the game before the local authorities would discern their identities. From the burning wreckage of what was once a 24 hour bar and grill, Coach Oglethorpe stepped through the smoldering wreckage of a walkway with his trio of players in tow.

"Are you morons done?" He angrily demanded.

"Coach let me explain we..." Gryphon tried to stammer out before he was bitchslapped by the enraged coach.

"ANSWER THE QUESTION. ARE YOU DONE?" The three players all simultaneously nodded, not saying a word. "Good," the coach said.

"Then bust your fucking humps over to the stadium now, and any of you three are worse than a plus-one on the stat sheet I am going to stick tape you to the hotel elevator and push the buttons to every floor, and on every floor I will be waiting, having taken the stairs myself, and I will punch of each you in the face TWICE. Once for this bullshit just before a game, and another time because I will be PISSED that I had to go up the stairs!"

GOALIES
Brian Duborny (Vickery)
Extremely solid, veteran goaltender. Has a tendency to come out of the net to play the puck.

Jean-Claude Gorges (Burnaby MLHC)
The type of goalie who seems to get better the more shots he faces.

Joseph Akin (Dinamo Lupinissia)
Good flexibility and positioning, excellent glove work, but has a tendency to cough up unfortunate rebounds.

DEFENCEMEN
Sven Stefanovic (Neorvins Wolves)
A very ungentle giant equally prized for his fearless shotblocking and his "sandpaper" factor; gets under the skin and invokes frustration amongst opposition forwards, but also has a reputation as a dirty player.

Rob Fletcher (Kirkenes Dragons)
Hard-nosed and hardworking, doesn't hesitate to block shots and clear the brush in front of the net.

Stephane Lefèvre (CS Val d'Argent)
A fast and skilled player who can make great breakout passes and quarterback the powerplay.

Frédéric Arnal (Colwyn HC)
Scrappy offensive defenceman who comes out of the corners with the puck more often than not.

Colin Calderwood (Internationale Latrobe) A
Hard-hitting stay-at-home defenceman who camps out on the points waiting to unleash his wicked slap shot.

Josh Mulroney (Mazinaw Knights)
Skilled and quick defenceman who doesn't hesitate to join an offensive rush.

Louis Guillemot (Olympique Langlois)
Technically sound and doesn't often let opponents get past him, but has a tendency to take undisciplined penalties.

Kevin Sheridan (Breton Emeralds)
Young and exciting defensive player with good speed and a quick release shot.

FORWARDS
Neville Keanes (Neorvins Wolves) C
A grizzled veteran power forward, one of the country's most respected players, known for his leadership and ability to come through in the clutch.

Laurent Oberforsky (CH Outineau)
Playmaking skill forward who likes to dump the puck and set up plays from behind the net.

Pierre Dubois (Burnaby MLHC)
Uses his good hand-eye coordination to lurk near the net trying to score deflections.

Phillip Adams (Dinamo Lupinissia)
A great puckhandler who skates circles around most defencemen. Doesn't have the best shot, however.

Gary Bavarillo (Internationale Latrobe)
A physical player, he's quick to pounce on rebounds and it's not easy to clear this guy away from the net. Enjoys trying to wind up the opposition goalie.

Séverin Jeanne (CH Outineau) A
Sporting and determined, the heart-and-soul captain of one of the KHL's most history and tradition-laden teams. A deadly sniper as far as shooting bits of rubber is concerned.

Harry White (Kirkenes Dragons)
Occasionally impulsive, as his running off during a previous World Cup to get married to one of the Secristan ice girls shows, but a solid and reliable two-way player.

Ben Connaught (Internationale Latrobe)
Young playmaking forward who uses his skill to deke past defenders.

Marko Russlund (Jokerit Arvika)
Intimidating presence on the ice, his size belies his excellent technique and grasp of the tactical aspects of the game. Can thread tape-to-tape passes through forests of legs and sticks.

Denis Roche (CH Outineau)
Rough and tumble player who likes to forecheck and pressure the breakout pass.

Sydney Crawford (Red Star Clayquot)
Exciting young star with franchise player potential. Fast, skilled and deadly accurate with his shooting.

Shaun O'Leary (Partisans Clayquot)
Deceptive shooter who can often fool the goalie with a quick release or a backhander.

Leigh Blunt (Olympique Langlois)
A pretty boy who reels in his share of puck bunnies, but isn't afraid to battle through bigger and tougher defenders to get to the net.

Evan Chong (Burnaby MLHC)
Another young 'un with much potential to fulfil, widely tipped for a breakout year anytime now. A complete package, he shoots, passes and checks well.

Most teams eagerly wait in anticipation, as the final roster is announced. Not Shofercia. We know our final roster as soon as our tournament is over. Here's how it works in Shofercia: Each region has a hockey team of 17 players, 3 lines of five and two goalies. There are 100 regions in Shofercia, divided into two conferences, each with five divisions. The teams play 2 games with their division mates, and 1 game with other divisions, totaling 58 games, with a game ever other day, and with the number of teams playing, there's plenty of hockey to watch :D

Then come the playoffs. The top 64 teams make it. The playoffs consist of 3 game series, which last about a week. Game 1 is friday, game 2 is sunday, game 3 is tuesday, and the teams rest until next friday, if they make it to the next round. 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, and the finals, for a total of 6 rounds. The semi-finals are also known as the conference finals.

Additionally, each team has a top line, filled with five of the best players from their region. The top lines of the top four teams make it to the Shofercian National Hockey Team. The two teams who make it to the finals become lines 1 and 2, (champion and first loser respectively,) while the team whose conference-mate won the finals, becomes line 3, and the other, becomes line 4. While the finals are going on, teams 5-8 also play, with the winning team's line being given a chance to play as the substitute line.

Additionally, the winning team's goaltender is recruited into Shofercia's national team. Two other goaltenders, who did a damn good job, are also recruited. The winning team's coach is recruited into the coaching staff, as are two other, best coaches as selected by the Shofercian Hockey Association.

Hockey is huge in Shofercia, both men's and women's hockey. Hockey is first introduced as a co-curricular activity in elementary school, which have their own, small and local competitions. By the time one makes it to high school hockey, one can see the scouts entering the massive, 20,000 capacity high school hockey stadiums. The region's stadiums average out to have a capacity of slightly over 100,000 seats. They stadiums can also be converted to other sports, or for shows, when the team's not playing. Shofercia's biggest hockey stadium, in preparation for the Pan-Slavic Olympics is under construction. It is rumored to have a capacity of 200,000 - but those are just rumors, for now :P

Roster:

Line 1 (Torpedo):
LW Pashka Bren
C Sergei Sergeev
RW Lev Koper
D Dmitri Turchinsky
D Oleg Harding

Style of play: power forwards!

Line 2 (Rockets):
LW Frolik Aleksandrov
C Dat Pashkov
RW Afi Maksimov
D Mark Andreev
D Mark Danilov

Style of play: passing, passing, passing, GOAL!

Line 3 (Tigers):
LW Sam Ivanov
C Phil Tigrov
RW Slavik Milikov
D Ivan Markeev
D Artem Ushatik

Style of play: Start out in own zone, lure the opponent in, and counterattack!

Line 4 (Waves):
LW Cake Adamov
C Gordo Bomb
RW Charlie Shen
D Rob Smit
D Rob Kashpirski

Style of Play: tough on defense, hitting for turnovers, trying to intercept the puck, stretch passes

Goaltenders:
Victor Stolichnuy - had a 96% overall saving percentage, faced a lot of shots. Team lost in the semis, as they couldn't score
Basil Catnip - despite the humorous surname, Basil's team, the Rockets, took second place, in a large part due to Basil's 92% overall saving percentage. If Basil could play with stability, he would rival Stolichnuy, as his talent surpasses Victor's, but he's still young.
Erema Aleksandrov - Taken as a sub-goaltender, because his team, the Torpedo, won Gold. His 90% average saving percentage is not the best, and considering his defensive support, it should be better.

Head Coach: Steve Uriev
Manager/CEO: Ivan Moneybags
Domestic Clubs: Torpedo, Rockets, Tigers and Waves (Yes, there were a lot of jokes in Shofercia when Torpedo defeated Rockets in the finals.)

The team sat in the locker rooms, Larry standing in front of them. " What the hell was that piece of shit you just played!?" You guys are supposed to be the best in the Clans, have the best scorer or goalie and we get 0-5 score. What a disgrace! Practice, everyday, here at 6. Don't show up and I'll kick you off the team"

Caleb Admele's Journal Entry Day 1503.

Man we dominated Mohawk Clans. We even heard their coach chewing them out in our locker room. I had 17 saves on 17 shots against. Stopped two breakaways by #11 on that team. He might give us trouble next time. Greg (Thompson) and Issac (Maynerd) each had a pair of goals in the 2nd period and Tiffany (Paulsen) added a fifth in the third period on a 3-on-1 breakaway.

We asked the referee, one Johann Franzen of Tocrowkia, if he had heard any news about Qazox lately and he could only tell us that there hasn't been any communication with Qazox since the declaration of that quarentine. The rumor, according to him was that everyone in Qazox is either dead or dying from the virus, but we don't believe it at all. Hell not even Dolphin Pox or Elboa was 100% fatal.

Well up next for us tommorrow is Teinohikira. They and Toiletdonia drew 2-2 in a very phsyical match that took place about an hour after match. Jimmy Giles, who'll be my opposite number, looked very good in net. But Alexei Borordin has a tough backhand. i can only hope I'm up to the challenge as the road ahead gets tougher.

"If there's any more of these people, my hand's gonna fall off," Theo whispered to his opposite number in the formerly-unlikely duo. "I mean, c'mon! We're not that good. Not good enough to be giving autographs to groups of fans."

Kristin sighed. "That's not the half of it. The number of rubber chickens he buys, Plexco is half-considering offering Maark a sponsorship or an endorsement deal."

Theo shook his head, puzzled and chuckling. "I still don't get what's with the chickens."

"Don't ask. It's safer that way."

The answer was somewhat off-putting, but at this point, Theo had learned to keep quiet if Kristin said he shouldn't go prodding at something. They both trusted each other's judgement and relied on the other to back them up.

Kristin then added: "I saw my picture on a photo of a mural back home. I thought you had to be an actually interesting person to be on a mural."

He took a moment to get a look at the small mob of fans (almost a hundred people, Theo guestimated), figuring out where they were from.

To his surprise, he didn't see a whole lot of Skraeling or Allamunnic faces (though the latter was iffy; almost anyone could pass for Allamunnic, given the amount of racial and ethnic mixing that occurred in that group). Instead, there were a lot of Quodites. A few Septentrionians (not many) and a couple of Kelssekians (probably scouting out the opponent, as much as their opponents meant business), and a few Tarrentians and a few Virabians and, even more to his surprise, a few Cassadagans. Not many but a noticable bunch, mostly focusing on Kristin. She must have seemed as the dominant member of the duo to them. She certainly seemed that way to Theo; he was the one that tended to get himself into fights or penalties, or set up or assisted, while Kristen bailed him out or took the assist to score.

Their relationship, such as it was, was somewhat muddy; they were very good friends, but it was difficult to tell if it was strictly platonic, if there was a little bit of mutual attraction there (probably a little, even if it wasn't overwhelming or a major factor), and probably a fair amount of spiritual adoption; they had both increasingly started treating the other as a brother or sister. Plenty of banter, a level of familiarity that might have bordered on telepathy in some cases (in terms of being able to predict or guess what the other was thinking), and a certain amount of unthinking inclination to protect the other.

Kristin sighed. "Good grief. There's more," she whispered.

Theo groaned. Then there was a welcome sight.

Artie Weiss and Maarkus Stahlburg, along with Joe Quinn and Honorius Skmyt and Waaltur Braannur. Alone, Artie or Maarkus could disperse a crowd pretty well, but add any of the other three and it was a sure thing. All five together was overkill for crowd dispersal.

As it was, they didn't disperse the crowd, but helped them get through the autographing and pictures faster and more smoothly.

As the last fan went away happily, Maarkus clapped them both on the back.

"Gettin' a bit popular, there, eh?"

Theo shook his head, grinning. "No kidding."

Kristin shook her head, too. "Honestly. If we get any more, we won't be able to show our faces in public." She looked more directly at Maarkus and Artie.

"Did y'all fetch us for something?"

"Nah. Just wondering if y'all were gonna join us for the study sesh tonight."

*Snort* "Don't be silly. Of course we're going."

"Walk together?"

"Sure. At least Art can clear the group if another shows up."

"Boys, I'm not at all disappointed in your game today," Started Coach Father, "We lost in overtime against a good team." "Don't hang your heads, we'll get 'em next time, Nick" Coach ended. "Samething tomorrow, okay guys," I said. "Blue Jays on three, 1.2.3. Blue Jays!"

I had a press conference after I got out of the locker room. "Nick, what did the Blue Jays do wrong." a reporter asked, "Nothing, they're just a good team with experience"
I answered. " Who is your blame for the loss?" another person asked, "The team, We should have played tighter defense, goals win games, defense wins championships."

I then left the mic and walked outside. I saw the rental car immediantly. "Rough Game?" Dawson asked, I nodded. "Let's go get some rest." She suggested, "Okay" I replied.

Amselik leads Delaclava to win, lead in tournament scoring

While Delaclava's football team enjoys huge success, let's not forget that we've got some stars on the rink as well.

The hockey Phoenixes opened the 12th World Cup of Hockey with a bang, as Greg Amselik set a team record with five goals to lead Delaclava to a 6-2 win over Tutlingburg. Alex Sevanov, the previous team record holder with a hat trick in the 11th World Cup, added the other goal. The six goals were the most that any team scored in the first matchday.

Amselik also set a team record for the fastest goal at the beginning of a game; at the beginning, Jody Viesel won the faceoff and deked the center. He split the two defenders, whom Amselik skated behind at just the right moment to retrieve the puck and put it past a sleeping Sonny LeBlanc.

Ezekiel Faroza wasn't unchallenged, having to make some tough saves. He surrendered two goals, both by Martin Kunze, but had 25 saves.

"I just had a great day out there," Amselik said. "Jody (Viesel), Jarkko (Temmonen), everyone, they were all setting me up really well, I was picking my shots well, and that's the end result. It's a win for us, and that's what matters."

Viesel and Temmonen each had three assists, as well as Jordan Resnar having three. The 11th ranked Delaclava next faces the 21st-ranked Toiletdonia, who drew debutants Teinohikira 2-2.

Plutoni ice hockey blog: WCoH 12, Matchday 1
Penalties irrelevant in win over Churchma

The World Cup of Hockey began with a comfortable 3-1 win for Plutoni over unranked Churchma. Amakar Flurian scored the first goal of the game 9:02 into the first period, assisted by Smed Kubalee and Stefim Kalsy, with Derram Noklin and Nina Pivas Plutoni's other goalscorers.

Noklin's goal, also assisted by Kalsy, would come 2:33 into the second period. Plutoni killed a penalty that Mukwal Kuyem drew 6:56 in, only to see Churchma score 37 seconds after Plutoni returned to full strength. Lilam Ostal and a Churchma left wing both drew penalties later in the period (Ostal's served by Pensban Gamela), but there were no further goals in the second.

Pivas, a new assistant captain, scored an unassisted goal 4:17 into the final period, deking the left defender. Smed Kubalee almost scored at 16:18 on a power play, but the Churchma goalie made one of twenty saves to deny Plutoni a fourth goal.

Comments:
1. hawkeye: Interesting scorers for goals 2 and 3--Pivas is an assistant even though it's only her second tournament, while Noklin is the only holdover from the second champions not to be an assistant or captain.
2. combatant94: ...Lilam Ostal?
3. hawkeye: You know what I mean.
4. aaaargh: More importantly, Pivas is the shortest and Noklin the stoutest player on the team. Hooray for being in the Teapot group!!
5. icebaby: Great, now Kuyem will get steamed up again.

Teinohikira 2-2 Toiletdonia

Coach Mark Bilbo looked at his team.

"Well, we didn't lose!" he said.

"Yeah, but we didn't win either!" said Alexei.

"We have another match with them on Saturday." said Daylon.

"What about tomorrow?" questioned Jorge.

Well, Qazox had a great game today." explained Mark.

"They beat Mohawk Clans 5-0!"

"We're dead!" Yelled Alexei.

"Well, even If we lose. I still think you guys are a great team!" encouraged Mark.

"Please don't go "GFO" on us tomorrow If we lose!" begged Jorge.

"I'll try to do that Jorge." said Mark.

"Alright, get some shut-eye! We have a big game tomorrow, be here on time and ready to play!"

"Yes, sir!" yelled the Players.

"Bring er' in!" commanded Mark.

The players put there hands on top of the others and shouted.

"1,2,3 TEINOHIKIRA BANZAI!!"

The players and Coach Mark Bilbo left the practice rink and went back to their hotel rooms.

The Vonghurst Star
Virabia emerge victorious....

TOONMAR - For both the Virabi Teams and the fans today was just another day at the office. The rink had that familiar cold feeling, which, to many of the Virabi faithful has become more of a warm and comforting it's almost like a mothers kiss. However, the feeling of familiarity of the rink didn't stop the players from playing well, or the fans from partaking in their usual rowdiness. Speaking of which, today, that rowdiness was a little more than usual. Sure it's no where near the level of the infamous Brawl of Sao Jorge, where the entire audience had to leave the game but, today wasn't great, especially if you were a fan of Canamia, who got off to an early lead and then became another recipient of vHospitality.

The puck was dropped at 14:00 and immediately Canamia started the attack. For the first 10 minutes of the match, they repeatedly drilled the puck inside. This strategy was fatiguing on their offensive line but, it payed off. As 11 minutes into the game Rick Jones was able to slip in a puck off a wrist shot. This goal was quickly followed by a goal from Cody Gonzales, which put the score at 2-0. The rest of the period went by and not much happened, however with one minute to go in the period Bobbers Young and Ben Malkick got into a fight, which ended in a morale boosting win for Ben Malkick who skated over to his penalty box in victory. The Canamia bench and their fans went wild as Malkick had beaten Young who is not the best person to get into a fight with.

However, this was the thing that set off the fuse in some fans heads. Not only was their team down 2-zip but someone had beaten their guy in a fight, so in response they did what the hyper violent Virabi fans always do. They started getting a little violent, and as a result around 20 or so spectators were chucked out of the arena. Along with them went 5 Canamanian fans who ended up going to the hospital so that their injuries could be tended to. Luckily for them the injuries were relatively minor, only a few scrapes and one sprained ankle, which, is better than most who fight Virabi fans can say.

The second period began pretty slowly, but it slowly gained up speed, until Toby Nona scored a power play goal in the 8th minute of the period. Five minutes later this would be countered by a Dallas Sankel slapshot from around half ice. Two minutes after that Toby Nona would score his second goal as he was able to sneak a fast one through Jacob Fredrickson's five-hole. This did become a big problem for Fredrickson as the other two goals he let in (scored by Nona in the 4th minute of the third and Jaxon Pike with three minutes left in the game) were also through the 5-hole. Looking at the game footage, this probably is a result of Fredrickson being a hair too late on executing the trap. However, we'll leave real judgement on that to him and his coach.

Eventually final time hit and Virabia did emerge victorious 4-3. What was thought to be an easy three points turned out to be another battle for the team, and they will no longer be underestimating even the lowliest of teams (something the football team has learned as well. Anyways, next up for the V-Team is 15th ranked, frenchie Seprentonians. The team is expecting a loss, but in a sports world where Rick Roll Land does better than us, anything is possible, and the match could end up going either way. However, it will be one that Virabia would have to win if they want any serious chance at being third in the group. Also, in tomorrows coverage, expect the first part in a series covering exactly why Virabi fams are so average for a Rushmori insane and well violent.

Tutlingburg Embarrassed in World Cup Debut

Dareb
- Many millions of Tutlingburgians awoke early on Monday, to catch the debut of the Tutlingburg national team at the World Cup of Hockey. I am sure many later wished they hadn't. Tutlingburg was soundly defeated 6-2 by Delaclava.

Delaclava began it's domination early. Only ten seconds into the game, Greg Amselik finished off a beautiful play and buried the puck in net behind a bewildered Leblanc. It was the beginning of a long period for Leblanc who surrendered 5 other goals in the first period.

Everybody expected Leblanc to be on the bench for the start of the second, but coach Martin Porter kept him in. To Leblanc's credit, he was solid the rest of the match. Tutlingburg failed however at generating any offence, producing only five shots in the period.

Tutlingburg played much better in the third, outshooting Delaclava 15-7. Tutlingburg City Grenades forward Martin Kunze was the only bright spot for Tutlingburg, playing 26 total minutes and scoring both goals on the powerplay late in the period. After the game, Tutlingburg coach Porter was clearly unhappy with his team's play.

"We can't go out there tomorrow and play like that again. This is the World Cup, not the minor leagues! Delacava played a great game, and we didn't show up until the third period. We made it easy for them, we didn't complete."

Tutlingburg's next game is against unranked Mohawk Clans, who lost to Qazox, 5-0.

The Game's 3 Stars

Second: Jody Viesel-Delaclava

FEELS LIKE HOME
Familiarity with host city gives Grizzlies advantage
by Sven Magnusson

KYNYTHIN, QUINTESSENCE OF DUST (TP) - The Grizzlies of Toyur entered their opening match of the 11th edition of the World Cup of Hockey into a familiar environment. Quintessence of Dust, able hosts last time out, are once again the home of the prestigious competition on ice, yet Toyur were once again to play in the city of Kynythin, this time called the Motor Group instead of that weird A from last time out.

It was perhaps that familiarity with the city that saw the Bears breeze past their opponents, the hapless Western Cuba, who never threatened the goal defended by those wearing green. The arena in Kynythin has been significantly improved over the last edition, with the rather shabby Motor Hall being replaced by the whimsically named Finntasia, a name which incidentally sounds like the name of white tiger Finnistasia from entertainers Sven and Ron in Kristiansberg. The ice was smooth, and the Grizzlies took full advantage over their inexperienced opponents.

Head coach Viktor Brandin did not pull any punches in the team's first game. 'It was important to jump right into the pool, as it were,' Brandin said following his team's 5-0 victory. 'We didn't want to let up or show any disrespect to our opponents. At the same time, we wanted to show the other teams in our group that we mean business.'

'Very pleased with the outcome,' added captain Mats Hölmqvist, who made it to the scoresheet with a goal and an assist. 'We kept them to the outside and they didn't really get any good shots to speak of. Up front, we converted on our powerplay, we cycled well, and generally just gave a solid performance all around.'

The Grizzlies' first goal of the tournament came relatively quickly, at only 6:13 of the first period, and it came off of the stick of Jakob Hjerstedt, who looks as though he hasn't missed a beat since last time out. Hölmqvist added a second goal, shorthanded, at 12:14 of the first. The Grizzlies took a 2-0 lead into the new locker room, complete with large television and muscle relaxing hot tub.

The Grizzlies may have been too relaxed, as they were slightly lethargic in the second frame. Niklas Aspelin's shot from the point was the only puck to find its way into the back of the Western Cuban net, on the powerplay midway through the period. It seemed as though that after the effects of the sauna wore off, the team was blissfully thinking of what awaited them in the second period - a full layout of buiscuts, with five kinds of tea to choose from. The game ended on a high note, with Toyur putting the exclamation point on the game with goals from Andreas Silander and Niels Linderoth.

Toyur take on Euroslavia on matchday two in the Motor Group. Euroslavia were shock winners over last go around's 3rd placed side, the Stars from Sarzonia. Toyur must focus on their opponents, who will be stronger than their matchday one competition, and less on the amenities provided by the fantastic Finntasia facilities in Kynythin. The Grizzlies were paired with Euroslavia in the last edition's group stages as well, defeating them 3-0 and 5-1. The second game can be seen on TSTV1.

Postby Shofercia » Tue Jun 08, 2010 2:29 am

"Welcome to Team Shofercia's dressing room, where the team is eagerly discussing their amazing, 4-1 defeat to Southern Northland. Had it not been for Afi's goal, it would've been a 4-0 blowout, albeit to give the Shofercians credit, the last goal was an empty netter. Why did Head Coach Steve Uriev play Catnip, more like Catnap, in the first game? What went wrong? Why was the goalie pulled when 5 minutes remained? We're going to take you live to a chat with Uriev, right now!"

"Well we played, and we lost. We are very new to International Competition. We have a tough game against Antarctizan tomorrow, on which we must focus. Southern Northland has a great hockey team. We are the underdog. Our plan is to win against Antarctistan, then beat Mantwenic, pull off a miracle in the crucial game against Eizen, and just have fun against Valanora. We faced a very tough team when we started, Southern Northland, who are almost guaranteed playoff berth. As is Valanora. This is why we must play tough against the other teams. Tomorrow, we will focus all of our energy against Antarctistan, and will, hopefully defeat them. *knock on wood* And yes, Stolichnuy will be in the pipes from now on."

"Would you change anything about your game?"
"We were initially not used to the ice conditions here. That's no excuse, we should've arrived earlier and got used to them. Unfortunately our first line didn't perform as well as expected, and our fourth made a terrible tournover. We just have to go out there and play our game against Antarctistan, and at this point, take it one game at a time."

"What do you like best about Quintessence of Dust?"
"The milk here is amazing. It's definetely great for a team huddle, or when we have to move past our defeat, and unto the next game. I remember that Penguins lost to Red Wings, 5-0 in game 5, and came back to win the Stanley Cup. We are the underdogs here, but if we play well, anything is possible. Especially after drinking Moo Maid Milk."

"Do you feel pressure from your fellow countrymen?"
"Yes. They have to realize we aren't the SSF. [Shofercian Special Forces.] We can't just move into any area, and score victories. SSF have two years of training, we've been together as a team for only two weeks. I know Shofercians have high expectations of us, considering SSF's recent victory, and SAFA's [Shofercian Academy of Foreign Affairs] amazing performance, but this is new to us. We're just going to play our game, and see what happens. For once, Shofercians have to realize that we are the underdogs, and just have fun cheering for us. That being said, we're going to win the next game, or if not, we're going to place Antarctistan under a lot of pressure. There's going to be a lot of hitting. There are going to be a lot of shots. I used pronouns until the mods made using wrong pronouns warnable, so I use names instead; if you see malice there, that's entirely on you, and if pronouns are no longer warnable, I'll go back to using them

Excerpts from last night's Hockey Night in Tarrentum Broadcast

Play-by-Play Announcer: Kellese Dressalla; Color Announcer: Ebereth Sundern

"Good afternoon Tarrentum, I'm Kellese Dressalla with my co-host, and always impecably dressed, Ebereth Sundern. Tonight the Falcons take on the Blue Jays from Canamal...Canamelah...Canadama..."

"Canamla."

"Namla? Isn't that the organization that says men--"

"NO! That's NAMBLA. Perverted bastards."

"Anyways, the Blue Jays are coming into tonight's game in after a loss to Virabia. The experts here in Quintessence of Dust have this one as a toss up but, Ebbie, I think this one is all Falcons."

"Too right you are Leasey. The Falcons held their own against the number 5 ranked Kelssekian team and should have an easy time against the Blue Jays in this one."

"Well the action is coming up soon but first we have an interview with star Goaltender Treppi Sama after the commercial break..."

"...Nine minutes left to go in the first period with the Blue Jays taking the faceoff near the Falcons redline after the Delay of Game call against Sama after he flipped the puck into the stands. The puck is dropped. Scooped up by James and out to Daario. Intercepted by Sallai and up to Gradón who's clear of the Blue Jays defensemen! A move to the left. Shot...GOOAALLL!!!!"

"SCRATCH MY BACK WITH HACKSAW!!!"

"A shorthanded goal by Robért Gradón to put the Falcons up 1-0 in the first!"

"...stopped by Fredricksen to negate the Icing call. Kelstrum takes it out. Over to Daario who brings it over the red line. Callista Salamicchi playing hard against him, Daario gets off the pass to James. Nifty move and front and...kick save by Sama!"

"What a tremendous lateral movement by Sama on that one."

...
...

"One minute left in the second, faceoff on the right side of Fredricksen. Saru's told to switch by the ref, Brossimi to take the faceoff. The puck is dropped and...it's kicked out to Saru. Back to Sallai. Slapshot...GOOOAALLL!!!"

"He beat him like a rented donkey!"

"A wonderful goal by Maximo Sallai III with assists to Saru and Brossimi on that bang-bang play."

"Time winding down on the Falcons powerplay. This has been all Falcons all the time tonight!"

"You bet Kellese and I don't think the Falcons are done just yet."

"30 seconds left on the powerplay. Sallai takes it out of the Falcons zone. Up to Brusconi. Brusconi takes it over the blue line and flips it to Saru to lead the charge. Saru at the net, quick pass to Brossimi on his left...GOOAALLLL!!!"

"Call him Johnny Storm, he torched that one in there!"

"Powerplay goal for Brossimi with assists by Saru and Brusconi and the Falcons take a commanding 3-0 lead here early in the third."

...
...

"And...there's the final buzzer. The Falcons win 3 to nothing against the Blue Jays and show the world community that we can beat teams, and beat them hard!"

"I don't rightly know what that means but I agree with you. The toughness and grit showed by the Falcons only furthers proves that we should be here and that we have arrived."

"Until next game tomorrow night against the number 12 ranked Fanboyists, I'm Kellese Dressalla..."

"And I'm Eberth Sundern..."

"Good night Tarrentum!"

With the stunning loss as motivation, Sarzonia's national ice hockey team were determined to take out their frustration on Tretskivucia.

Boy did they ever.

Sylvan Turcotte scored a hat trick, Mark Ridley added a goal and three assists and Matt Peterson made an impressive debut in the 12th World Cup of Hockey by turning aside 18 shots en route to a 6-0 victory.

For coach Mark Browers, the energy the team played with was even more than the scoreline.

"We wanted to show that match against Euroslavia was a fluke," he said. "There's no reason we should have been dominated by a team 15 spots below us in the world rankings."

As for Peterson, one day after he watched his understudy make 35 saves, several of them spectacular, he turned in a workmanlike performance that didn't include anything highlight worthy. But for Peterson, that was enough.

"I don't give a flying fuck about highlights," he said. "The only thing I care about is getting the 'W', which is what we got tonight." However, Peterson was quick to heap praise on Kieran Barker.

"He did a great job," Peterson said. "There's a reason he's on the team. He's got all the potential to be a great goalie for us in many World Cups to come."

Sarzonia improved to 1-0-1 before their match up against WCoH 11 surprise team Toyur. Turcotte said the team's record was "far from ideal" with Toyur lurking in the background, but added that the team would give it their all.

"They're a quality team, but so are we. It should be a good match," he said.

Andrew’s Space

Prior to the game and after the morning practice, I had a sit down chat with Phillip I. Grant, the president of Male Equality Now. I guess there has been an outpouring of mail that he has received from men throughout the country who want me to serve as one of the leading spokesman for the organization to improve men’s rights throughout Cassadaigua. I’ve never looked at myself that way though I know I have always been a player that young boys can look up too. I have gotten e-mails and letters from kids who see me as their idol and I do everything that I can to try and encourage them to pursue their dreams. Being a man in Cassadaigua isn’t easy, but there are many good things about it as well, and all young men should be proud of their gender here in Cassadaigua. A problem is that they see these other national teams, many of which bring only men and no women, or others that maybe have a couple women on their team, but it is predominantly male. It makes them wonder why they cannot do it themselves. I know that there are some tremendous male athletes here, and all young boys should have the same opportunities to succeed. I have always felt that those opportunities were there. They were there for me, and for my male teammates, but after talking to Grant I can understand now that my story is more the exception and not the rule. So, after this conversation with him, I have accepted the job of being a spokesmen for MEN, but not first without talking it over with my female teammates just to make sure they were comfortable with me doing that kind of thing. That was for piece of mind more then anything else as they were all very supportive and I thank them for it. It is an honor to be the first male captain of the hockey team, and of any team, really, and I will look to do more for this great nation.

None of that detracted from our play on the ice against South Norwega. If I thought it would, I would have never done any of it. Naturally, we had to win this game, and felt that we should. There is no excuse to be losing to them, but this group is pretty strong, and they know that they will serve as a spoiler. Upsets can happen on any given day, like we saw with the Euroslavia stunner over Sarzonia. After a couple shifts, we could see that South Norwega was nervous and trying to do way too much against us. It was making their passes sloppy, so with that we didn’t feel as though we needed to play an aggressive style of play. We sat back conservatively, and let them make mistakes. They took two penalties, which most would consider a lazy penalty (such as hooking the man from behind after he had already beaten you), and on both power plays were got the puck in the net. I picked up an assist on the first one, at 6:05, scored by Danielle Castleberry. She was in front of the net, and deflected the shot from the point by my sister to make it 1-0. As I dumped it back to the blue line to Samantha, I got the second assisted. Then later, at 9:51, we struck again, and it was my line again. Meghan Stafford simply beat the goalie with a nice wrist shot over the blocker to make it 2-0. I got myself another assist, and Danielle (Castleberry) picked one up as well. The checking line powered one into the net with just 38 seconds remaining in the period to give us the comfortable advantage. Stefanie Hughes got the goal, assisted by Allen Johnson and Brian Zuchovitsky. From there, we just played smart hockey with the lead, getting a goal in the second and in the third to finish off the eventual final score of 5-0. Meghan Stafford got her second of the game in the second with my sister and Adrienne Gaucher assisting, and in the third period Rachel Castelli scored from Megan Sommerville. In all, we outshot South Norwega 47-17, getting a big cushion after the 25-3 first period onslaught. We were 2-for-6 on the power play, and they were 0-for-1. Melanie Roy gets the shutout, and they can never be taken for granted, so great work by her. It was a great win, and we are good form right now, and I expect it to continue against Silver Beach.
