Gaining adulthood is an application process, not one that happens automatically with age. The reason for this is that the Lunas Verde government realizes that age does not always dictate maturity. There are 14 year old adults, and 34 year old juveniles (though the latter is quite rare). Any citizen desiring to apply for adulthood must fill out a very in-depth questionnaire that measures intellect, emotional stability, and overall maturity. All those born on the Isle of Nohn or it's controlled territories and registered with appropriate officials are automatically citizens, be they human or syth. All syth can also apply for easy citizenship, if they were not citizens already. Humans must submit an application to the Protectorate Government, and be approved by immigration officials before being granted immigration visas. If after 3 years on such a visa the human has proven themselves a productive member of Nohnic society, they are allowed to apply for citizen. In practice, this is a mere formality to appease the sythen governments, as the Protectorate Government is greatly interested in increacing human immigration to the isle.

33-What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? Anyone deemed a threat to the stability of the government or the reconstruction of the Isle. Furthermore, anyone with a criminal offence in their home country is usually denied entrance unless they've been pardoned.

The Protectorate Government is allowed a great deal of influence over the media, and many stories critical of the regime and it's policies are encouraged to turn their criticisms elsewhere. Journalists and reporters are often denied admittance to many government events, and the military monitors the location of all such professionals very closely so they do not wonder into areas restricted to the media.

Syth are encouraged to live within the Tribal Pronvinces and away from the major cities of the Alsten Protectorate via tax incentives and greater rights and freedoms to practice their own traditions and laguage, leaving Alsten free for human colonization.
Syth also have difficulty getting jobs in Alsten and the other human-dominated regions, as due to racial quotas promoting a balance between syth and humans, most companies need to hire several more humans before they can even consider hiring syth, or face tax penalties.
Humans are encourage to settle only within the Alsten province, as laws and practices in the Tribal Provinces make them very hostile to human businesses and ventures.
Syth have three genders, compared to the humans' two, and it's difficult for most humans to tell them apart at first glance. Generally, humans refer to a syth as “she” until told otherwise.
Syth mageknights are considered by the various Tribal governments to be above and outside the law, as the incarnation of their clan's honour and station. Insulting a mageknight's honour is enough justification for them to request a duel to first blood, or to the death if the insult was grievous enough. As a mageknight could consider even inappropriate body language an insult, generally, humans stay as far away from mageknights as possible.
The bearing of traditional sythen weapons in public by all other than mageknights, warlocks, and shamans is illegal, and the bearer is subject to fines.
Sythen clans are distinct entities, and should not be confused with one another. Make such a mistake at your own risk.
