Even though WAR #208 now alleviates most of the need for any of this stuff, we'd still like to make an application.
Short name of country (NS or RP): Libraria and Ausitoria
Region or Continent (doesn't always have to be the NS region you are residing in): Decis
Nominated representative(s): Lord Frank Whittler
Central Bank/Monetary Authority (the one that issues banknotes or sets interests rates, etc.): The Royal Banks of the Imperial Commonwealth plc*
Is your country a member of the UN/WA?: Yes
What is your dominant or most thriving industry? (doesn't have to be what the NS page says if you RP a different or better industry): ICT, Financial Services
What is the current ideology and type of government in your country?: Socially and Economically Liberal Capitalist Constitutional Monarchy
Is slavery abolished in your country or is slavery being abolished within the next 12 months?: Abolished.
Does your country have product/food safety standards legislation? (feel free to describe): Pretty much as follows: If it [is reasonably deemed to inadvertently/is reasonably deemed to be capable of inadvertently/is reasonably deemed to have been designed to] infringe anybody's natural rights without that anybody's approval it's illegal.

*De-jure a jointly-owned platform of the Royal Bank of Libraria, the Royal Bank of Ausitoria, and the Royal Bank of Apraecia, which issue interchangeable currency.

To clarify one point of the constitution: Although you've banned trading slaves, we hope - to be entirely precise - you haven't banned the following?
Libraria and Ausitoria wrote:
Norsklow wrote:
Et alors? It still remains a medium of exchange. The legality thereof is completely beside the point.

"Ooh, interesting concept," commented a financier in Alexandria monitoring the more mundane aspects of the WA. He ran off to the stock market to set up the initial trade in slaves. Promisory notes were issued within seconds. Hedge funds followed within minutes. 'Slave re-creation options' promising cash in the event of the legalization of slavery were issued. Rights to buy slaves from potential markets were bought and sold. A joint-stock limited liability investment company 'Slaves inc.' acquired potential options on tens of thousands of slaves - pending legalization of such options. The price of a slave rose and fell. People borrowed slaves that didn't even exist yet to short-sell and acquired negative slaves and rights on selling slaves and options on financing the buying of slaves.

The price for slave futures quickly stabilized as people remembered that nothing interesting would happen until something happened about the legalization of slaves. Nevertheless, slaves were generally agreed by all involved to be a worthy inflation-proof investment, and subsequently rapidly gained the status of a reserve currency, as all slaves could produce things and so earn interest. Even when they didn't exist, everybody knew the options on them would still be worth something tomorrow.

And the financier? He had made a nice little some of money from setting up the slave trade without anybody being enslaved. The perfect sort of slave trade.

We think it's probably not exactly a 'slave trade' as the RIMT describes it. Certainly no real slaves are involved. It just happens to be a useful new way of making inflation-proof money.

To:the mind of Charlotte Ryberg

The Democratic Republic of Libereco en Azio would like to join the Ryberg Institute of Mutual Trade. We will be glad to comply with all of the clauses, we will not create any tariffs, as we tend to dislike taxes. We are not a member of the World Assembly, since we do not agree with all of their laws. My nation sits in the region of Europeia. Libereco en Azio's most thriving industries are furniture restoration, wood chip exports, and uranium mining. My nations ideology is that of a right wing utopia, and it's type of government is a Democratic Republic. Slavery will be outlawed as soon as possible, and food or product safety laws will go into effect soon. Thank you.

Hello, it sounds like there is still interest in the free trade project so I may continue to have this up and running as a "background program". I'll go through the applications and start approving them according to the criteria. I will also be reworking the member list to make it easy to edit.

Proposal for new clause

Postby Charlotte Ryberg » Fri Jan 02, 2015 6:08 pm

Hi,

I am proposing to add this clause so that ACTA/SOPA-like stuff should not drag down the institute: after all this should be a simple free trade organisation. We will still be able to help member countries enforce intellectual property law within their borders, as long as it doesn't unnecessarily hamper freedom of expression or creativity.

PART E:
5. The Institute will not dictate the intellectual property laws of member countries.

Later, I will be proposing a clean-up of the constitution's language to make it more understandable, and reflect my country's current roleplay parameters, and then clean up the membership list of clearly inactive members.

I'm against this because we shouldn't have to put all these clauses saying what it won't do. Simply don't do it; you don't need a clause to tell yourself not to do it. It just bogs the constitution down. If there really must be a clause, then have something simple that just says the RIMT will minimize (though, not necessarily eliminate) its role in regulating commercial laws in its constituents.

Edit: I like the idea of not having those intellectual property regulations in place, but the way we go about it is what I disagree with.
