We had thought that this resolution would serve as a blocker against more radical legislation jeopardizing the unborn's right to life. The passage of the misnamed "Reproductive Freedoms" resolution proved this wrong. Therefore, there's really no reason to keep this resolution on the books. It may as well be repealed, with the hope that "Reproductive Freedoms" will in turn be repealed.

This issue will not go away until this Assembly realizes it is not competent to legislate on this matter.

And the repeal is off to a bad start. Too early to call, but so far, so good.

Remember: We need to keep this if we want to keep any chance of ever getting 'Reproductive Freedoms' repealed.

Or, we need to keep this - and Reproductive Freedoms - to ensure that women across NationStates have the right to take care of their own reproductive matters as they see fit.

Why is anyone voting against this, "Reproductive Freedoms" does everything that "On Abortion" does and more, deeming "On Abortion" unnecessary. Infanticide Abortion will still be legal even after this passes. I'd recommend that everyone actually read the resolution before making a decision.

Yes, as the argument in the resolution says. It's almost as if most people aren't foolish enough to believe that's the reason it's being repealed, though. Curious.

Because we need to repeal Reproductive Freedoms first.

This is precisely why I wish this repeal had waited for submission until after the best repeal resolutions for Reproductive Freedoms ("RF") had been voted on. :palm:

With RF in place to ensure individual rights, the flaws in On Abortion ("OA") are exactly what the author says they are, personal views and alleged ulterior motives be damned. Champing at the bit to put this repeal through means level-headed ambassadors are much less inclined to vote for it, since we still haven't tested just how repeal-proof RF is. For the record, I think RF will turn out immune to the currently-queued repeal; but I'm not positive of that outcome, given this Assembly's past volatility. We are FOR the eventual repeal of OA for the very reasons stated herein; but only under the overarching shield of a battle-tested RF; without that condition, the comparatively marginal improvements granted by this repeal cannot possibly be worth risking a total lapse in abortion rights in some-to-many WA nations. We therefore, and pretty disappointed about it, vote AGAINST.

I'm new to this whole World Assembly thing, so I'm not 100% sure what the rules are, but it seems to me that this law doesn't need a full repeal for the reasons you listed, but rather a proposition to have some of the minor details of the document changed some more. The thing about surgeons though was just you being pedantic :p
