A part of China's plan to catch up to America :

You first decrease your size of your population. Then you stabilize the size of the population enough so that you can continue to create a stable market for goods/labor force while also allowing for higher GDP per capita. All the while claiming you have improved your human rights.

I don't know what to say aside from those people in Beijing certainly knowing how to use all options at their disposal to achieve their goals.

This is good. I expect more easing of it later on. China's about to suffer a huge demographic crisis due to the lack of young people and the overwhelming amount of old people it's going to get.

They aren't. The problem is that their means have not caught up to the scale of their needs.

Also, while the easing of the child laws is a good thing, they really need to crack down on the male-preference that is common in Chinese culture.

While I think the one child policy is stupid and has screwed up their current generation, I think easing the law at this point may be just as bad as they'll have a much larger population that will be harder to manage and harder to feed.

A Mars program would create a great number of new jobs in various sectors, not to mention spin-offs. There are three major returns from space programs, the first is progressing to the point where evntually not all of Humanity will be trapped on this rock, the second is the expansion of human knowledge, and the third, which in my view justifies the cost more than the other two is Spin-Offs. And Spin-Offs of Spin-Offs, and things that aren't Spin-Offs taken up by the space program and improved before begin spun-off.

Good news about labor camps (which I feel is the most important thing here but has somehow been overlooked). The one child policy was always daft - If every couple have only 1 child then within 50 years you have a vast elderly majority being looked after by a young minority and within a generation your population will have halved.

Yes, they are. China has well over 1,349,585,838 citizens. Which even though they have a large land area, they still put a huge strain on their ecosystem and that increases their dependency of imports from foreign nations to bring in food and other supplies needed for the increase of living standards. Not to mention that their high population density is causing new diseases to pop up from overcrowding and pollution..but that's for another topic entirely.

Due to the current rise in population ALL nations should have population laws to limit to 1 child to avoid overpopulation to have more than 2 kids is irresponsible.

I agree that labor camps should be suht down but I can't agree with easing child laws. China has population of 1.35 billion people, they seriously must try to keep this under control if they don't want to have situation where people don't have enough food to eat. There is no need for situation like North Korea has where most people are 1.40 tall because of undernourishment and have serious disabilities which prevent them from living a normal life.

Well it shouldn't be in Europe because population is ageing fast because there aren't enough youngsters.

There are still too many Chinese, I think China's government should only consider doing this after they have halved in population.

The problem is China has too many old people. I say let them have lots of babies but the old need to be culled to ensure the prosperity of the young

Good on China. The one child policy is a bad-old days policy born from shortsightedness and anal-compulsiveness. How it's been horribly implemented and managed is also a factor.
