English. And usually, that's it.

I find English SO bland. Honestly, IMHO it sounds like gibberish when spoken and has no 'personality' when sang.

Dutch is like the more lovely and sexy version of it.

Meh. Written Bulgarian and Hungarian sound rough. Yet when sung, they sound sublime.

Pretty much my reaction to Russian and Arabic music.

Turkish sounds good too. I'm not much of a fan of Russian. Greek, I'm conflicted.

Most languages are beautiful in their own way when singing the songs of their nation.

Personally, I think many of the Central Asian languages (particularly the Turco-Mongol ones) sound very nice when sung.

I'm having a hard time really accepting that there's really universalizable textural traits to any given language. I don't think you can really say any language inherently sounds "harsh", or "smooth".

Just compare "99 Luftballons" by Nena with "Tanz Mit Laibach" by Laibach.

It's the double ll's and gh's/ch's mainly, and yeah, it does have a sort of throatiness to it.

Whereas in Dutch all that sounds like you're having a major throat seizure or you're hacking up yer lungs...

I don't see what's so ugly about velar and post-velar fricatives.

Weird vowels with a throaty element, ok, but the consonants? Meh.

I used to drive to work innocently listening to some music station when they'd put on a cover some American (what have you) rock song...in Dutch. The first that happened I nearly drove into a ditch. The second time nearly into the rear end of another car. The third time I did it on purpose to piss myself off when I had a particularly shitty meeting to go to.
