That's not what I'm saying. I was using an example.

And it's easier to understand one kilometer instead of 0.621371192 miles.

It's a really bad example.

Uh, how about "It's 1 kilometre down the road"?

Most major American roads are spaced out 1 mile apart.

It was a shit example.
Don't be deceived when our Revolution has finally been stamped out and they tell you things are better now even if there's no poverty to see, because the poverty's been hidden...even if you ever got more wages and could afford to buy more of these new and useless goods which these new industries foist on you, and even if it seems to you that "you never had so much" - that is only the slogan of those who have much more than you.

It's easier to say 'sure thing mate, just down the road, like literally there' *points at destination*.

Human logic and common sense beats both.

Why is Britain not coloured as "not using the metric system", given the fact that it's essentially a hybrid of metric and imperial? It's hardly fully in the metric camp.

I think it's there to say "Come on lads, even the bloody Brits are more logical than you!"

Time to move all the roads in the US to metric distances apart. Massive infrastructure projects are need and this only gives me an excuse.

That isn't what I was saying. At all.

What I'm saying is that every signpost doesn't have to be located so to match a direct miles to kilometres conversion.

Jk, I do find the metric system to be more logical as well (Scientific measurements, and I use the metric system for temperature, even though for everyday things I'm too used to things like miles and pounds).

Metric is inherently better.

Metric is better, but not because the only major country that doesn't use it is one you hate for some reason.

It's better because it's infinitely more rational. That's the only reason.

Pretty much this. It is way more rational, which means combined with their policies, we can safely say they are irrational. ;)

I bet they aren't all exactly one mile apart either.

Here, in Western Canada, we measured using the Dominion Land Survey, dividing the areas into one square mile sections. So, our roads are about a mile in rural areas, but they are off by a few hundred meters (although accurate for its time).

It's the ISO standard for time so they conformed to that to improve their economic prospects.

And when they're not, do you specify fractions of a mile when asked for directions? If I were looking for something 1.63 miles down the road, would you say "Yeah, 1.63 miles down there, mate" or "About a mile and half that way"?

If you have to, use both.

I use imperial because it makes sense to me. If America were to suddenly switch to Metric and ditch Imperial, I could see a lot of errors happening. Errors that could be detrimental to the nation's economy. Errors that America as a collective unit cannot afford! (Literally!)

They go to a mile and a half or a mile and five-eighths which are reasonably close. The problem is that the roads rarely do that unless it's to dodge a river or swamp.

The conversion to metric may be a bit tedious in the US, but it will make life easier.

So instead of some one-off costs, you'll incur the cost of conversion for as long as you continue to exist.
