You know, I've seen this before, and the big complaint the right seems to level is "PEOPLE DIED!"
...ok. Yes. 4 people died. 4 people died violently. That's a tragedy.
...what of it?
Now I'm not being cruel. I'm not being flippant. 4 people DID die, and that's a shame. But..you get that in September 2012, this particular country was in the middle of a fairly violent civil war, yeah? People were dying every single day, right? you understand this, yes?
So while yes, people died and that's a shame, how is this in any way the President's fault? And I'm serious here, I really want to answer this, because from where I stand "4 people die during midst of sectarian violence and civil war" that's...well that's kinda what happens in sectarian violence and civil war, right?
And again, this is sorta what diplomats, you know, do. That's the job they signed on for. To go into the dark and dangerous corners of the world, and try to make them a little less dark, and a little less dangerous. Diplomacy is not an easy game. It's not a safe game. And it's not a game that people who willingly enter into do so blindly.
So, and really, I'm really, TRULY asking here, why is "four people died during a civil war doing a job they knew would be dangerous, and agreed to do anyway" really all THAT big a deal? Yes, people are dead and that's sad.
But 4 people dying during a civil war, doing a job they knew was dangerous and decided to do anyway...forgive me for being a bit callous, but...so? Why is this something we really care about? People die violently every single day, most of them NOT in situations that they willingly agreed to, knowing what they were getting into. Why are we so concerned about 4 who did?
Oh, right. The black thing. Carry on then.
Benghazi was a cover-up. Chris Stevens even told his Deputy over the phone that they were under attack. His Deputy then alerted the state department and updated them throughout the night. He even chartered a plan so that troops could be sent in to help them, only to realize that the troops were given the order to stand down and not to go. Also, the CIA had it right the next day. The original talking points said that it was a terrorist attack, but the State Department and White House changed them to blame it on a video which obviously had nothing to do with it (You don't bring mortars and rocket propelled grenades to a spontaneous demonstration).
