From the perspective of the crew that's trapped in the turret with it is there any difference?

Tungsten is also a heavy metal and will give you just as much poisioning as DU will, if things get hot enough to ignite DU or tungsten then a bit of heavy metal poisoning is the least of your worries.

Poisoning and burns don't make the public panic as much as cancer.

Seriously thou what do you people think of my idea of having the carousel armored in some way and closed off from the rest of the turret? Do you think it would be a valid safety measure or just a death trap?

There's also the unpleasant-sounding scenario in which you may now have depleted uranium penetrators on fire.
This could of course be mitigated by greatly improved containment and fire-suppression than was available to tanks in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

I think it may have been Kyiv who came up with that layout (or at least, he was the first person I noticed to discuss it).

Don't know if Kyiv uses it but I know Sumer does in the MCA-7. I have a variant of it in the Jaguar II but I only keep APFSDS rounds (sans propellant) in the fighting compartment, no explosives. Instead, the propellant charge for the APFSDS rounds are double-stacked in the bustle, along with the full-size HEAT-AMP rounds and GLATGMs. It reduces capacity relative to double-stacking all of the propellant, but given the existing ammunition capacity I felt it was an acceptable middle ground.

Purpelia wrote:From the perspective of the crew that's trapped in the turret with it is there any difference?

Yes. A fire can be suppressed by a firefighting system. An explosion cannot be, and will be actively trying to push shrapnel into their bodies at great speed.

Poisoning and burns don't make the public panic as much as cancer.

The resulting brain damage and birth defects will make the public BAW anyway.

I still think it'd look cool with a T-55 style turret.

My new "Pigzilla" main battle tank.

Something I hope that looks like it can compete on the battlefield with the average NS-tank.

I was wondering about the new Military Ground Vehicles of Your Nation-topic. Will we first have the mk. VI before we get the mk V?

Should the Pigzilla encounter a tank that can withstand a direct hit of it's M126 155 mm Howitzer, the Pigzilla can also have up to two good sized rocket launchers installed at the cost of ammunition storage. (They fold out. You can't tell if it is equiped with one or two launchers when they are not deployed. The other pictures had those rockets as well. Folded in.)
You could drop a tactical nuclear missile on his butt. Or better yet, a quarter of a mile from him because he probably had some sort of anti missile system as well.

I know the Pigzilla has them.

Why not use a GLATGM, and avoid the expense of having the extra 'pop missiles in and out' system?

It can have different launch systems installed. Also SAM missiles for instance.
Some rockets like those on the picture are to big for a gun system. Some rockets work better when fired in salvo's. Some are not compatable with Gun Launched Anti-Tank Guided Missile systems. (I think.)

But between you and me, I did it cause I thought it was cool. Most Pigzilla's will have no rocket launchers at all. It takes up precious space needed for the M126 155 mm Howitzer shells. This tank can also be used to provide Beyond-Line-of-Sight fire support. That takes up a lot of shells.

Having those missile launchers installed or not depends on the mission profile. I think this way the tanks are more adaptable.

I needs an APC/IFV which is very non-oppressive looking, not cutting edge, wheeled, and still capable.

Can anybody help me?

i would need more specific information. How capable would you like it to be? What will you use it for? (What scenarios?)

Why does it need to look non-opressive and what do you mean by that?

That's an enormous modification though. It's not something you can easily just slot in and out unless you simply remove all the armor in that section permanently.

GLATGMs can be used in an anti-air capacity. You can much more easily make a modular system if you just stick a box-launcher on it, but if you're firing missiles that big, you may as well use a dedicated launch platform, since a whopping two missiles isn't much of a salvo.

As capable as possible.

What will I use it for? The sorts of things you'd use an APC for - getting your commie paramilitary close to the Fascist paramilitary so you can obrez dem mo'fo's.

Why do I need to make it look non-oppressive? SO it doesn't look oppressive to civilians.

What do I mean? Not big and scary looking.

You can if the tank is designed for just easily slotting in and out missile launch systems. I don't see why not.

Well. I thought it was a cool idea. And I still do. It might not be terribly practical but this is a tank designed for it's aweness factor. (If it has any.) These sort of mega tanks are impracticle anyway. Still doesn't stop many NS armies of having divisions full of them.

I'm liking this idea. Paint it grey with a maroon stripe down the side...

Any more suggestions? ENemy currently uses MOWAG Piranah and MOWAG Eagle.
