Sorthern Football League, 2043 season

Shield

Twice previously have these two teams met in this triflingly pointless occasion of a season opener, twice previously have Lispole Strand won those two clashes. They might be a not very good Division Three team but the form-book suggested it would be three in a row for Strand. So naturally Daniel Bennett went and scored a brace and won it for Heathfield United. All involved had a neither jolly or unpleasant time and everyone went home generally apathetic.

Division One

Corcaigh, having finished third last season, returned to the top of the pile to claim their sixth SFL title. They had to work harder to achieve that than on previous occasions though, spending the majority of the season outside of even the TQCC places. A 3-1 win away to 17th of October for Corcaigh combined with Heathfield United's 2-0 victory over then second placed Snowspire, and then top team East Reading's 3-1 defeat away to James Connolly SC on matchday 37 saw Corcaigh go top, having previously only been top for one of the previous thirty-six matches. They may only have been top for a fraction of the season, but they were there when it counted.

Elsewhere in the division Beningrad's fans may well be coming to accept that they aren't quite the biggest team in the land after surviving relegation only on goal-difference. Frankly though, any team that loses 9-2 at home, even if it is to the defending champions, deserves to be relegated, so it seems apt that the team to lose out on goal-difference to Beningrad were Fenians Sport Club who managed to lose 9-2 at home to Heathfield United.

Meanwhile the terrificly exciting fair play table that people only look at if they're extremely bored, already looked at exciting stats such as goal average or actually want to play in the Aeropag Football Invitational. Sorthern Northland's last representatives, Snowspire, went and qualified for the TQCC so they clearly didn't want to again, though it is understood they were rather pleased with the goody bag they received for taking part. Anyway, Rothsbere Athletic were the cleanest team this season, though Oblast Rangers were accused of 'undermining the spirit of the game and fair play tables' having been top of the fair play table going into the final match and then seemingly deliberately managing to pick up fourteen bookings and three red cards in their 2-1 away win over Felland Marsh.

Division Two

A reasonably comfortable championship for An Blascaod Mór, and whilst a team representing a micronation winning a championship and promotion to a top tier might usually be easy pickings for a journalist looking to write a cliché ridden “Isn't it wonderful what this small club has achieved? And look how small and backwards they are! Tea served in proper mugs!” type article, the Division Two stories of the season are to be found with their fellow promoted teams.

St. Patrick's, perhaps slightly surprisingly for a team renowned for it's development of future Sorthern internationals from their academy, revolves around their three foreign youngsters who led them to success. The first two, the Candelarisarian pair of Ryan Gordon and Noah Garrett were already familiar to Pats fans and both increased their familiarity by spending a second successful season on loan from CMSC side Port of Clotaire. Whilst the pair didn't provide the same attacking force as last season, where Gordon topped the Division Three assist charts and Garrett scored eleven goal, they were still hugely influential prompting manager Lewis O'Hara to declare “I'd love to manage them again, but they look ready to play a part for Port of Clotaire now and I hope they perform as well for them as they have for us”. With former St. Pat's player and current Port of Clotaire captain Alan Cooper seemingly loosing his marbles more every week next season, for Garrett in particular could be a big 'un.

At the other end of the pitch the influential figure was Stanley Henderson. Having caught the attention of Lewis O'Hara during the Cup of Harmony playing for West Pocono, Henderson was picked up on a free by St. Patrick's and the ~~Poconoan~~ ~~Poconoian~~ Poconi international had a first season to remember after crossing the border, as he scored twenty-two of St. Patrick's sixty-four league goals and picked up the clubs Player of the Year award.

Little Greece meanwhile have never been a team keen on adventurous football, so it was little surprise to anyone when they announced they had hired a Yaforite manager prior to the season kicking-off. What was a surprise however was that said Yaforite was all round legend and man whose previous football experience doesn't include coaching, Cinna the Poet. Even with a supposed lack of football management knowledge he managed to get Olympia playing in a fashion that delighted their fans and bored everybody else's to death. It might have been boring to watch, but you really do have to sit back and give a respectful nod to any team who can score less than a goal a game and still achieve promotion.

At the bottom of the table previously big clubs Locomotiv Shingon and Swinedon Town went down alongside Sundol Town. We're not laughing at Swinedon's demise and you can't prove anything.

Division Three

Albion Athletic and Tioka & Weybridge go up at a canter, Marx-Stadt eventually decide they'd like to go up as well and win promotion on the final day in probably very exciting circumstances. Porthdun Celtic go down at a canter, Asisnusford City and Hightop Hill join them in what was no doubt a very exciting final day (though Hightop would've needed results to go their way and to overturn a seven goal deficit in terms of goal difference on Workers United to stay up) and this reporter needs to take a trip to the gents and really can't cover this division in much more detail. I do apologise to the masses of Div 3 fans reading this who are inconvenienced by that.

Division Four

Isn't that much better? Right then, now that we're all refreshed let's have a look at Division Four shall we?

Now that's winning the league and going up at a canter. Matchday 32 was when Bannabridge wrapped it, a 3-2 away win over Euskara Portuezki putting all nineteen team below out of reach. They still went and did it the fun way though. With both of Euskara's goals coming in the first half, Bannabridge spent most of the match trailing and it wasn't until the eighty-seventh minute that they got on to the score-sheet, two more goals in the remaining three minutes (well, about six actually what with the injury time) and the celebrations were under-way. The two teams to eventually make their way up in Bannabridge's wake were Tiletston Rovers and ~~Hingtingsdon~~ ~~Hungtingson~~ Huntingsdon Athletic, with Athletic's promotion in particular drawing heavy amounts of apathy in Taeshan for some reason.

A two round play-off this season after both Conerlia Industrials and Loddon Accies both were knocked out of the SNFA Cup in the fifth round as the final remaining non-League teams. Conerlia won a tight semi-final and went on to give Durness Pottery a scare, the League team only avoiding extra-time following an injury-time winner in the second leg.

Oast took the Dreyher title back from Huntscove, though fairly comfortably in contrast to the close finishes of the last couple of seasons.

Sorthern Cup

Another year and another Sorthern Cup falls into the grubby little mitts of a captain of a non-Division One side. Not since Corcaigh beat Snowspire 2-0 back in 2039 has a top tier team won the Cup, whilst in the last two seasons 17th of October have twice fallen to lower division opposition in the final. They might've been hoping for third time lucky, but alas a 6-5 defeat to Rode Ster Amsterdam in the fifth round (which is really the fourth round) saw those dreams dashed. Instead it fell to Heathfield United to take the role of top division team humbled in the final, having beaten the likes of Corcaigh and East Reading on their journey to the James Connolly Stadium they must've been confident of winning the trophy. It wasn't to be the hands their captain, Matthew Robinson which would lift the trophy though, but those of Jamie Reid, captain of second division Reading Town, thanks to a reasonably comfortable 3-1 win.

(OOC: Well, I didn't want to post this, but I have to. I'm afraid I won't be able to complete this season, because my computer broke down and is preventing me from acceding to the scorinator. Hopefully, my computer will be fixed before the end of TQCC 20. So, OOCly, this is the reason for not to scorinate and/or post a report this time. ICly, the league was cancelled due to the assassination of a referee. To sort this out, the VFA decided to send teams for international competitions according to the standings until Matchday 10.)

Using this criteria, the first placed team in the standings (Metropolis Alligators) will take part in TQCC 20 alongside with Fontvielle Impact (Apertura champions). As for the Globe Cup berths, teams placed from third until fifth, after MD10 (Tannenberg FC, SC Caimanes and Slateport Bulls), will be taking part in the next Globe Cup. AS Bezieres, as sixth placed until MD10, have the first option to take part in the next Aeropag Football Invitational, if the hosts allow it. And AS Vaud (18th placed in the Overall Standings), Alejandría SC (19th) and FC Lili (20th) were relegated to the B-League.

The teams that hopefully will replace these relegated teams in the next Super League are Nacional (1st placed in the B-League), Cardenales FC (2nd) and AC Tallin (3rd). These teams, along with Olympique de Fontvielle (4th -without promotion-) will participate in the next SBCC.

Season Capsules: 2053/54 Apertura, 2054/55 Clausura

Short and sweet versions because the intern who was responsible for posting these decided to not do it until 5 AM on the day of the tournament entry deadline. Waaaaugh.

2053/54: Apertura

After the last few seasons had all come down to the final matchday with multiple championship scenarios in play, Lakeport decided all that excitement was really unnecessary and set about to wrapping up the title early. Leading by eight points with three games remaining, they'd essentially clinched. A 2-0 home win against Teknika confirmed it, and the club was able to parade the trophy for its home fans with two games still to play. Of note was Port Royal's rise to fifth in the table, thanks in part to the preseason purchase of World Cup midfielder Yori Takada from King's Eleven.

The TakilQuip journey was a short one; although Eastport got past Corcaigh, they were wiped up by the Neurologists by a 7-1 aggregate. Kalinsk were ousted immediately, and Teknika finished third in its group. Suffice to say, the TakilQuip has not been kind to Dancougar.

However, the Globe Cup saw Sporting Lakeport fight their way from the Selective Stage to the final, becoming only the second D-League team to play for a major world club title. In the same season in which they captured the title comfortably with 14-point cushion over Grandborough, the team somehow found the energy to slug through four qualifying rounds, a group stage, and four knockout rounds to challenge Albrecht FC. This was precisely what the club's management had in mind when it brought the McAllisters on board, but they envisioned a different ending -- a 4-3 loss in the penalty shootout ended a magical run through the international field.

2054/55: Clausura

Lakeport midfielder Jerry Reisner retired following the championship season, leaving the team with a hole that was quickly filled by splashing money on the dynamic Maria Klecha, a product of CF America's system. Kildare were forced to re-arm, too, after Zach Ledain's retirement. They grabbed Nicholas Iacono from Stoneridge in what was seen as a major coup for the club, which was threatening to return to mediocrity despite opening a shiny new stadium only a few years before. The other major move of note was Sargossan international Ricardo Osorio's transfer to Grandborough FC.

Eastport United picked up their first crown in 17 years -- and fourth overall -- on the final day of the season. Fittingly, they sat level with their rivals from across the Kishin River Delta, Port Royal, on 80 points, and both were scheduled to play home games which kicked off at the same time. It was a party atmosphere throughout the entire region, but it was to be the Eastport side which celebrated hardest. Their 2-1 victory over Super Dimension was more than enough when Port Royal fell 1-0 to Grandborough.

International Qualifiers

Sporting Lakeport's monster Apertura and Eastport's Clausura title saw them finish 1-2 in the aggregate point standings. But then Port Royal and Shuukyuu Kishin were tied at 147, so it went to aggregate goal differential. There, the Royals pipped the last TakilQuip slot. It was to get even wilder when deciding the Globe Cup slots. After Kishin, three teams -- Yuki City, Teknika, and Grandborough -- were tied at 138 points. So, it went to the next tiebreaker. Teknika came through at +49, but then Yuki City and Grandborough were tied at +43. Seriously?! We have to go to aggregate goals scored?!

Trams Union United become the champions of the Weegie Premiership after an unfortunate performance from The Thistle, who were oddly inconsistent considering they are more or less the same side as last season, except for the addition of The Distillery's athletic striker Andy Harris, joining The Thistle because of his dissent at The Distillery. And indeed, The Thistle's strike force was second to none; but their defense was not up to scratch this time around. Some will blame the loss of Scobie and Pedersen, defensive stalwarts, for much of the campaign. But even granting that, the defense performed poorly, and now Mackintosh Thistle Celtic will not be in the TakilQuip Champion's Cup; Robin McCue is quite probably dead in the water, especially after a disastrous 5-1 thrashing at the hands of a poor Mackintosh Armadillos side, the Thistle's deadliest rivals who haven't had this kind of thing to cheer about for years. Surprise package Schialtas Niaghuan get a Globe Cup spot, as do Lylia Foresters, whilst The Distillery grab the second TQCC place. On the other hand, Jamestoun City, after so long in the top division with nothing to show for it, finally succumb to relegation, along with the underwhelming Aigh nas Raidhraillinan. The Nae Dangers never looked comfortable, although they have more or less the same record as Jamestoun City.

Hanover go straight back into the Weegie Premiership after only a brief absence; they're joined by another side that had a considerable history in the top flight, Soothside City. The Longshoremen find themselves unlucky yet again. The Second Division gains Pittingstown and Nortkirk, whilst recently promoted F.C. Aberdunkirk and Rossiemannock Rose find they have done just enough to stay up this time, although their squads will need to be strengthened if they are to continue to survive in the First Division.

The Weegie Football Association have submitted a bid to host the Series B Champions' Cup final. The stadium submitted, for the second time, is The Dear Green Place. This stadium, located in the capital city of Mackintosh on the island of Weegia, is the home of Weegie Premiership champions Mackintosh Thistle Celtic and seats 73,211. It is a rectangular, all-seater stadium, built in 1928 in a handsome art-deco style purpose-built for association football matches. The conversion to an all-seater stadium cleverly managed to keep the original art-deco facade.

The most recent stand was completed before the beginning of the most recent season, built to replace the smaller-capacity Portside End. It is currently known by the fans as the "New Stand", and is yet unnamed. The board of Mackintosh Thistle Celtic have decided that if The Dear Green Place does win the hosting bid, they will name the stand after the nickname of the losing team, as a slight consolation. The other stands are the Jamie Smith Stand, Keirlie Side, and the Cromlie Street End.

Jus’ sticking this in, ooer, before I disrupt the flow of the TQCC and whatnot too much. Aren’t I a sweetheart?

Matchday Thirty-Three… The maths (or math, if you prefer, you poor ignorant soul) was refreshingly simple. An Albrecht FC victory would leave Green Island knocked out of the title race regardless of their result at home to NAPPC. An Albrecht FC victory coupled with a MarquezOW victory would leave the naranja two points behind the Scorpions going into the final weekend; the same, naturally, would apply for two draws or two defeats. An Albrecht FC defeat coupled with a MarquezOW victory would see Blanco da Cruz’s men and woman move to the top of the table for the first time all season.

At the bottom… it was more confusing. So let’s just ignore it.

Now, at this point, it might have been instructive to do the Candelariasian thing. We quite enjoy doing the Candelariasian thing when we’re in the right frame of mind, and it’s not even as though we happen to have an awful lot of other pressing calls upon our time right at this minute.

Sadly, however, the three big matches were spread throughout Saturday, though at least Albrecht played last to ensure that things wouldn’t be completely anti-climatic on the penultimate and – potentially, like – all-important weekend.

We start in Onwere, then, with Albrecht Turkish warming up for a CMS Cup final at the Escalera Naranja with a trip to, er, there, to face Marquez’s finest. There was still plenty at stake for Turkish – fourth place was still just about on offer, and they had an outside shot of beating MarquezOW themselves to the diddy bit of pot rather laughingly offered as the Clausura trophy – but it was still a pretty makeshift side that took to the field as Mannasuch continued to experiment. Considering they’ve only lost two games during the second half of the season, the kids (and other assorted newcomers) would appear to be, as they say, alright.

For all that, Marquez-Onwere clearly had the impetus but started very poorly indeed. Though no spring chickens themselves; Robinson and Werner seemed quicker to every ball and, alongside Randjelovic and Sànchez, began to dominate. Their opener on thirteen minutes was entirely deserved, with captain Titenburg poking home a Randjelovic corner, and MarquezOW looked pretty much clueless.

Blanco da Cruz made two half-time changes, bringing on Diego Fernando Pappas for his own countryman Gómez and putting Luís Sáez up front alongside Bas Smit in place of Joãio. It smacked horribly of desperation, with the manager giving up on everything that had worked all season, and the new formation duly fell even flatter as the game progressed. The final straw was the club’s second red card in as many matches – Chris Stewart this time the ‘victim’ after an entirely unacceptable foul on Calabrese on seventy-five minutes. Soon after, the nine men and one woman crumbled – Randjelovic scoring a brace as Turkish ran out three-nil winners.

The home side’s title bid was still far from over, but a couple of hours later it was Green Island’s turn – with a victory utterly vital. Their Nethertopian opponents needed three points themselves to secure another top-flight season in the Candelarias, but their chances of getting them looked over once Jhanna Young had put a fine, curling shot past Laurent Balabon, NAPPC’s Pocoan number two, after five-and-a-bit minutes.

Four minutes later, the Peregrines went and buggered up the script by equalising.

Green Island were plainly the better team throughout the first half, Balabon steadily reaching hero status in place of the injured Javier Meléndez as he fended off shot after shot, and even the withdrawal of Young didn’t appear likely to stop the GIZ from eventually going back in front. Marco de Opper duly brought va Drake down soon into the second period, Anwamanë put away the penalty, Brittany Prescott limped off (girls are just pathetic, ain’t they?), and the scene was set for… for…

For an NAPPC comeback, funnily enough. A second equaliser from González Rodríguez was followed soon after by a fine finish from Francisco Cuesta, and Green Island knew their hopes were all but shattered. They pushed on for an equaliser that never came, but even that wouldn’t have saved them – and the GIZ relinquished the title after three straight seasons.

(Yay!)

It was left to Albrecht FC to mop up, with victory over MN Smith – hardly the most exacting of challenges – all they required to take the title. They went behind after ten minutes.

Um.

Happily for the MSS faithful, assembled for what they really, really hope was the final league game at that particular stadium; Albrecht FC – and Adam Kouakou Kouamé, a proper academy boy, even if he was born somewhere off in Bongo-Bongo Land – came through for them. Three-one up soon after the second half got underway, the Albrecht weren’t afforded the right of a procession – the Smith were still battling against relegation, after all – but the olés were none the less out in force as the home side were crowned champions and Francois St. Louis lifted another bloody trophy, the get. There can’t be too many more decorated Kelssekians in international sport.

Anyway. Well done to them. We can go back to hating them now.

Elsewhere, various results ensured there were still four teams with a chance of going down after this weekend, so I suppose we’ll focus on that next time out, or summat.

Oh, and Leo Williams got injured.

Matchday Thirty-Four… And so, not before time, the end is here. We could probably do the Candelariasian thing here, too, but the title and all the UICA places are decided, and we did nick the Candelariasian thing from the Kura-Pellandis anyway, so let’s just cut to the chase.

Everything at the bottom really depended on Ironside. On the face of it, this was a solid side that could have done rather better than struggle all season, but they’ve been let down by some terribly cautious play – sticking one up front is entirely acceptable these days, especially if it’s a reliable young goalscorer like Ryan Sheppard, but playing with two slow and old holding midfielders seems a little much – and a bit of youth naivety both at the back and in the dugout. The venerable club’s Pocoan ownership probably expected better, but Ebbrell Klein at least managed to pick up three whole wins during the Clausura to heave themselves out of the bottom three. Now all they needed to do was win their final game and hope that Caires Sports, if they did the same, couldn’t notch up an uncharacteristic cricket score and make up the four goal difference in GD and GF.

Unfortunately for them, that match happened to be against Green Island.

Unfortunate for Caires Sports, their match happened to be in Onwere.

Just a point further back, MN Smith and Turks’ Club lurked – both travelling east, with the Smith in Peregrinus City and Reuben Kennedy’s chaps off to Arrigo.

The first two goals of importance both fell on the ten minute mark; Smudgers right-back Josh Nykvist failing to deal with NAPPC’s Ishmael Van Dyke and Bas Smit getting up beyond Sifmir K’latris to head home José María Gómez’s flighted cross for the naranja. As it stood, Ironside were safe. Being utterly pounded by the GIZ, granted, but safe.

Six minutes later, a journeyman striker by the name of Kyle Jones turned everything right on its head. Kennedy’s decision to start Jones in favour of former Portuguese man William Lacamoire certainly seemed bizarre at first glance, but the former Kura-Pelland international is nothing if not a flighty character and might well have crumbled in the face of fifty thousand baying Arrigons, who never really took to the striker despite his years of service and were less than chuffed to discover late last term that he’d been cheating on them with a bunch of pointies for years. Instead, it was left to Jones to grab this rare chance by the scruff – and his well taken shot from the edge of the box suddenly thrusted the Khatib-Gassett side to safety for the first time all season.

Six minutes later Harry Oughton equalised; three minutes after that Greg Innisvale put Portuguese in front. Meh.

Elsewhere, MN Smith’s bunch of kids, random Nethies, and plainly disinterested Quodites were being politely taken apart by NAPPC, who went two-nil up through that man Van Dyke inside the half hour. The Knights continued to cling onto a one-goal deficit in Onwere, and all eyes drifted back towards Talinger.

Slowly but surely, Ironside were beginning to get a foothold in the game against Green Island, thanks largely to the former GIZ benchwarmer and Pasargian international Illés being all anchory in the centre of the midfield, and a nil-all draw would most likely be enough to keep them up.

It didn’t happen.

Illés went and scored.

His hit-and-hope effort on fifty-five had Ironside soaring up to the heady heights of thirty-one points, leaving the bottom three trailing in their wake. To the credit of the rest, however, they entirely failed to crumble. Turks’ Club equalised, Caires Sports equalised, MN Smith pulled one back… but it would avail them all to naught as long as the scoreline in central Candelaria stood, and they knew it.

It didn’t, as it happens. Green Island aren’t one of the multiverse’s most feared forces (?) for nothing, and there was honour at stake if nothing else. Espy va Drake himself stepped up to the plate on the ninetieth minute to sweep in from an Aldren corner, but the damage was ultimately minimal. Ironside stayed up, the others didn’t.

For Caires Sports this is clearly an utter disaster, one that really is simply inexplicable. When you look at how they outplayed the Errant Knights in their own castle just a fortnight ago, you cannot help but be baffled by how they’ve ended up going down for the first time since XXV. Having a manager who can’t dress himself properly and spends most of the match shaking the fourth official warmly by the hand and complaining of being thirsty can’t have helped, but it’s not as though the poor old boy actually had any real power, was it?

Was it…?

Anyway, it goes without saying, but we’ll say it anyway, that the entire first team will be transfer listed. Fans will now just have to hope that Aiza doesn’t take his money and run at this point, but if they can hang onto most of their current squad players they should be alright. Ditto the other two, actually, who have both got more than enough talent to ease through the CMSC2 without having too many players likely to be snapped up by top-flight clubs at home and abroad. The Smudgers might have to rely on their next generation in some departments, but with midfielders Connor Phillips, Harry Vine and Phelan Jones O’Caomhain all looking like serious talents, it doesn’t look like they’ll have too much to worry about. So everyone’s happy, really. Yaaay.

As for the final day; no-one in the top six actually ended up winning, though Turkish’s point at home to the Marbles was their thirty-seventh of the Clausura and enough to secure that particular trophy, as if anyone actually cares. The only change in the table from the previous week saw Mayo Valley dip below McDonald after a home defeat to Alvintzi’s side – leaving Mayo on thirty-nine points for the third consecutive season. They’re nothing if not consistent, out west…

After much ponificating, gesticulating, and getting the CEO of Cygnus Technologies to pick a ball out of a large bowl, it has been decided that the final of the seventeenth Cygnus Series B Champions’ Cup will be held at The Dear Green Place, Mackintosh, The Weegies.

It has also been decided that the final ot the twentieth Cygnus Series B Champions’ Cup shall be held in Krytenia, with a further announcement to follow in due course.

Well, it's been an interesting day for O-League fans...and CMSC fans too.

First, Anthony Swann announces, just minutes after choosing the SBCC final venue, that manager Bob Matthews has left the club "by mutual consent". This after the club finished second in the league. Before fans of the Midlanders had time to gather their pitchforks and torches, however, Swann reveals his replacement is none other than the man who has just won the World Cup, veteran Candelar boss Andy Le Lan. Cue placated fans - they're fickle like that.

Then, Ousevale Borough chairman Trevor Spencer reveals that three new players have passed medicals, and will be revealed to the press in a few hours time.

Not to be outdone, Swann then sends out a press release, revealing the venue chosen for the final of SSBC20: a brand new, 105,000-seater stadium on the outskirts of Bromham, to be called Cygnus Park.

Stanton get in on the action; having sacked Stephen Hiden last week, they reveal that Matthews is to be the club's new boss. That'll be interesting when they travel to the Mercian capital.

Back to Ousevale, and the three players are revealed: SLANI full-back I Gûg-ho (or Lee Guk-Ho, as Krytenia's differing Romanisation system translates him) and his number twenty shirt; Jono Plunkett, World Cup winner escaping relegated Caires Sports, in shirt number seven; and Rennidan international Drunn Deleks, who has been given the number ten shirt. Wait, isn't 10 Roshanak's number? The hell?

Camberley Town soon clear that one up; Roshanak is now the first coach of a Krytenian club to be either Starblaydi or female (ooh, a two-for-one!) as she joins the O-League two side.

And then, the icing on the cake. To hell with buying players, old Swanny's bought something else. A football club to be precise. Radyukevich CSC (David Wolverton used to play for them, you know) are now under Krytenian ownership; quite what this means for the relationship between them and Mercia Bromham is as yet unknown.

With all that in the space of four hours, who knows what tomorrow will bring?

Una Serie 6 is just around the corner and the question on the lips of every football fan is whether Royal Khaldoon can be beaten. The mega rich side from the capital look unstoppable, acquiring new faces over the break where nearest rivals Pythons have lost star striker Enrico Dossena to Cafundeu.

This year could easily be the most one sided in history – however one team in particular look equipped to take it to the champions, Almondvale have invested a large amount of the cash they made through sales on Akbarabad international Samin Akbar. They’ve also nabbed Queer Poco internationals Petr Ollic and Karim Zaki for absolutely nowt. Shrew business by former Skyte manager Daryl Ferguson.

Not looking so clever is Pythons manager Mark Sloan, whose lack of expenditure coupled with the sales of key players over the last few seasons is starting to turn the fans against him – the same fans who quite easily forget he brought them 3 league trophies, back to back.

Looking nervously towards the foot of the league will be Villa Ortiz, Real Minanda, Salaga and new boys 1860. Real may be best equipped to stave off the possibility of relegation whereas newly promoted 1860 may be well and truly out of it come the mid season. Salaga F.C have lost former international Ugo Stowell to the bright lights of non-league coaching, where he is embarking on the next chapter of his career.

The mid-table scrap could be the best in years with everyone looking pretty much even, Globe Cup qualification could be the most hotly contested outcome from the word go. Most bookies are backing Jonastown United to keep up their rise through the league and comfortably finish 4th, maybe even push for third.

Run Down, the 12 teams going toe to toe for the league title... it's unlikely it'll be that even.

Royal Khaldoon – Did the double last season, strengthened the squad and look damned good to pick up the league title in style.

Pythons – 2nd last year, maybe cutting it close this year sans Dossena. Sloan needs to pump some cash back into the team or see his legacy crumble around him.

Augustus – have a new crop of talent coming through the youth system, could see a return to Trofeo Royal glory.

Jonastown United – Rocked and Rolled to 4th and look even better this year – a strong cup run would cement their position as Una Serie main-eventers.

Almondvale – Ferguson got them out of their rut and back to winning ways – expect a good run for the cup and strong competition throughout the season.

Skyte City – Panzer (Ferguson’s successor) has a strong defence but lacks some attacking bite. Midtable is a good result for Skyte but the fans expect more.

Ridgemont Town – without Le Tissier, Wilhelmson’s men fell apart in the league but made a run to the final of the Trofeo Royal – expect a change of tact this year.

Athletic Khaldoon – average does as average is and 8th place was wholly deserved on last season’s performance – expect much of the same this time around.

Salaga F.C – Finished well above the relegation scrap, much to everyone’s surprise but with Ugo Stowell having packed his bags and Van Dyke on his last legs, the game could be over.

Villa Ortiz – Could’ve done with a few faces, heaven knows they have a little money to spend, but Rowley has faith in his men to drag them further up the league.

Real Minanda – A real shit storm hit Minanda last year and as the old legs gave way and the giant stadium remained empty Minanda came within a point of relegation. Bon Voyage signs at the ready.

1860 Flumineiro – Deserve a crack at the big time, it’s just whether they’ve got the balls to seize it. Weakest squad in the league and no money for transfers – it’s gonna take a miracle.

Elsewhere, its expected Valengren Kickers will storm back into the Una Serie next year. Ashley Joseph sold the club to a Cafundeu based consortium and they in turn bought a ton of new talent. Romp to glory then shake up the Una Serie the following year. Port Los Renato will be joining the Kickers in League I following their promotion, but are unlikely to challenge for promotion.

Jutense have already taken revenge for their loss to Raynor City in the final of the sixteenth edition, beating the Rockers over two legs in the first knockout round, and will have their sights set on the (replica) trophy that was denied to them on that night in Pasarga.
