Strong attack and defence but a very weak midfield, led by the experienced Tim Chasterty. Average goalkeeper who is great against shots from inside the box but somewhat fails when needing to save a long shot. The Palascions always try to play with flair and entertain the crowd with skill moves.

The lone intern stuck assembling the roster while everyone else is getting shitfaced at the Ministry of Morale office party is pleased to announce the roster for World Cup 63 qualifiers.

Sol Kirkkegaard, the man who guided Polar Islandstates to their place in the sun, begins his third World Cup cycle with the Paladins. He was unable to make his system work as intended during his first Cup at the helm, dropping points left and right on his way to a weak third-place showing. He managed to right the side for a mostly dominant performance in the Cup of Harmony, followed by a spot in the Round of 16 and a loss on penalties to then-World #1 Valanora. Both the Ministry of Morale and Coach Kirkkegaard wanted him to come back for another cycle, and so two years on Kirkkegaard is looking to lead a resurgence after a pair of losses to rival Audioslavia in AOCAF 38, the second one depriving him of the chance to be the first man to win both an AOCAF title and the Copa Rushmori.

Kirkkegaard implemented some fairly sweeping changes to his side at the start of World Cup 61 qualifiers. He replaced the traditional 2-6-2 with a more defensive-minded 3-6-1. He brought the Terns first-ever Captain, and Hall of Fame defender, Niko Marek to improve the team's defense. Marek left the Paladins to coach first-division Polaran club side Northside Diamonds at the end of CoH 53, and make whoever's coaching the Terns look over his shoulder after particularly unseemly losses. Kirkkegaard has elected to replace him with the patrician William St. John de la Ware, who was almost unbecomingly glad to be plucked from a life of gentlemanly leisure and called back to service with the national side. Unlike Marek, he isn't in the Hall of Fame, but he remains the leading candidate for "best centerback in NMS history" (an admittedly low bar) and has never had to worry about earning the respect of the side. Former NMS captain André Vaillancourt-Bosquet, promoted by Kirkkegaard to provide a familiar face to his new side, helped implement Kirkkegaard's version of the midfield-centric, ball-control NMS offense. Vaillancourt-Bosquet's player selection has mostly come up aces, led by international phenomena CMF Fred Nguyen and point striker Hugo Leclercq. Goalkeeping coach Étienne Lajeunesse, a close friend of the recently retired Édgar Thibault, has been retained to try and train up his successor.

William St. John de la Ware picked up where Niko Marek left off in molding a fairly formidable defense. With André Lecavalier having returned to his original position at DMF, de la Ware has brought in Henri-Réné Lavaillère at center-back, and his seasoning in Vilita paid off in AOCAF 38. Rick Andrews has lost a step and been forced to develop into a pure defensive back, but Sheldon Whitby has managed to replace some of his offense on the left side of the backfield.

Only a few reserves have been changed after a mostly successful AOCAF campaign. An already-young midfield got even younger with Mike Gladden being replaced by André Lecavalier at DMF and Sam Flowers holding down the spot he took from Donald Taylor towards the end of WC62 qualifiers. Fred Nguyen didn't quite back up his claims to be the best midfielder in the universe - Laborious Hawk defended his title in the Round of 16 matchup - but he was much closer to the top than most people expected. Fellow youngster Julien Cormier is coming off a less heralded but still spectacular campaign, and has even managed to improve during club play. Meanwhile veteran Fabrice Sévérin has been elected captain to replace the retired goalkeeper Édgar Thibault, the players apparently decided that they wanted another blunt-talking loudmouth with nearly perfect fundamentals at the helm on the pitch.

Trotting out an 18-year-old starter is always a tremendous gamble; Sol Kirkkegaard bet on Hugo Leclercq without hesitation and drew a 21. After two World Cup cycles and three AOCAFs, Leclercq has accumulated 35 goals, and will be at his prime during this Cup cycle. Barring injury, he ought to break Gilles Villeneuve's all-time scoring record for the Paladins.

The High Commonwealth of Silar is pleased to present its football squad. The Chavaliers have a winning combination of a potent star striker, Luther Lewis, combined with a well lead defense. The Chevaliers and their fans back home are excited for this year's World Cup.

Head Coach
Donald Hemlock- Donald Hemlock has been head coach of the Wyverns for the past 7 years. When he was first selected, Coach Hemlock had led the Newport Thunder to three straight National Championships in his time as coach. The man retired two years following that amazing streak, but when asked to coach the international team, gratefully accepted. He has since led the Wyverns on a variety of different runs. The Wyverns steadily improved to an international level, culminating by qualifying in the World Cup 60. Though they lost their first game of playoffs, the team was definitely energetic and ready to return to the scene. Unfortunately, a small recession meant the team received no funding and was unable to operate two years ago. Luckily, the recession came to a quick end and funding has returned. Coach Hemlock has taken the team to a new and higher training regime. Last year's run ended in an amazing draw with Vilitia, the world's best team. The Wyverns are ready to come back and make a run to the playoffs.

Assistant Coach
Tarry Hemer- Tarry Hemer has coached the Wyverns alongside Hemlock for the past six years. Head Coach of the Kellington Shamrocks, he led them to a national championship only six years ago. Hemer had helped Hemlock bring the Wyverns unit into a elite and fast working killing machine. Hemer's style of coaching provides an interesting contrast to Hemlock's own, though it only benefits the team. Hemer is optimistic about the Wyverns chances of making the playoffs this year.

Management
Manager
George Thomas-George Thomas has been manager of the Wyverns for the past seven years. He was picked by Jedi8246's International Sports Committee to help bring the team together. Since his selection, Thomas has helped build the Wyverns from bottom up. His selection of Donald Hemlock was much acclaimed. Prior to managing the Wyverns, Thomas was manager of the Harper Jackals. Thomas is well known for his trust in people he selects, rarely switching coaches until they retire, regardless of whether they win or lose. This strategy has been a key part of the Wyverns, whose staff and players has remained largely unchanged since the creation of the team seven years ago.

Asst. Manager
Robert Godfrey- Robert Godfrey is the assistant manager of the Wyverns. Godfrey is now entering his second year in the position after Mikael Gibbons brutal murder two years ago in the Red Rat killings. Mr Godfrey was chosen due to his sharp management of the Charleston Rangers, who took them from a bottom feeder to a playoff worthy team in a short period of five years. Godfrey has helped Thomas look at players in different ways, helping the team choose it's players more wisely.

The Players

Keepers
Dan Triboult (Starter)- Dan Triboult has been the starting keeper for the Wyverns for the past seven years. Triboult is the three time Pro-Bowl Keeper of the Kellington Shamrocks. Acclaimed for what seems like a sixth sense, Triboult's awareness of what occurs on the field is above average. He always has an eye on the action and is always ready to defend a ball that flies his way. While he is not the fastest player, he will always know how he missed a ball and be ready to make on the spot improvements.

Leontes Guilga (Back-Up)-Leontes Guilga is entering his second year as second string keeper. Leontes is characterized for his brutal style of play. He is not afraid to slam into scorers to stop attacks on the goal, even if he risks penalties. He is the primary keeper for the Dadisman Spartans, where he has helped define the team's playing style of rough play.

Backs
JhorDan Sykes (Left Fullback)-JhorDan Sykes has been a member of the Wyverns for the past seven years as well. He had just finished his amazing rookie season with Dadisman Spartans when he joined the team. Since then, he joined the Spartans in winning a national championship only two years later and has become a well developed player. Like Guilga, he is know for a rough style of play.

Gary Dean (Left Center Back)- Gary Dean has also been a member of the Wyverns since the team's inception seven years previously. Gary Dean plays on the domestic team Newport Thunder. Dean took part in the three time in a row championship team, an elite member at his position. Though he is now the oldest member of the team at 37, he still maintains his skill and finesse, if his speed and physicality isn't what it was. His experience helps rally his fellow backs in tough spots. This is Gary's last year before retirement from professional soccer.

Acacius Fell (Right Center Back)-Acacius is now in his second year on the Wyverns. A fellow member of the backs unit of the Dadisman Spartans, he shares the same philosophy of his teammates. He combines this brutality with a quick pair of legs. Easily one of the fastest men in the nation, he is well known for quickly rushing an opponent, stealing the ball and passing it off to the midfielders.

Quintus Marks (Right Fullback)- Quintus is another seven year member of the Wyverns. He is a member of the Dadisman Spartans, meaning of course he is a rough player. What separates Quintus from his fellow Spartans is his nimbleness. His skill at maneuvering has helped him direct his strength in unique ways. He is easily the most hard to guess player on the pitch.

Midfielders
Fiona Dowell (Left Midfield)-Fiona Dowell is well known for being the first female player of the Wyverns. Last year, the Wyverns have decided that both male and female players should be given a shot at playing on the international team. Fiona Dowell is a member of the Washington Royals and the MVP of the female league. Fiona Dowell started playing in the league as a back, before quickly developing into a faster and more lean type of player. Moving to the midfield position, she shined and helped carry the Royals to the national championship, though they failed to win.

Kris Hutchenson (Center Midfield)- A seven year man out of the Gotham Knights, Kris is an interesting player. Originally he was an artist, but decided to head into tryouts on a whim. Hutchenson discovered his skill and was made a starter only a year later. He has now been in the game for ten years, having helped carry out the Wyverns style of fast play.

Sam Leon (Right Midfield)- Sam Leon has been with the Wyverns for seven years as well. Sam was personally picked by Terry Hemer, who saw the man play in a recreation league. Leon was the only member of the Wyverns to have not played on a professional level, yet that failed to make his ability any lesser. Sam quickly adopted to the Wyverns style of play, considered a secret weapon in that many teams underestimate his value.

Forwards
Manny Hem (Right Forward)- Manny Hem is the oldest member of the Hem brothers. The Hem Brothers all come from the Kellington Shamrocks, whose sharp and swift attack helped carry the Shamrocks to the championship seven years ago. As a unit, they are the sharpest set of forwards the game has seen in a long time. The brothers had been playing together since childhood. The Shamrocks wheeled and dealed to get all three of the brothers on their team. Their familiarity with one another make them one of the most in tune units in the game. They pass to one another with frightening accuracy. Manny is the tallest and has the most reach. He carries the right side of the field and is often the one who scores in the Hem combination.

Nicolas Hem (Center Forward)-Nicolas is the middle brother and the smallest. What he doesn't have in size, he makes up for in speed. He is a extremely fast player, who helps carry the ball between Charles and Manny. His speed also helps him take the ball around backs who would normally pose a threat to his other two brothers.

Charles Hem (Left Forward)-Charles is the youngest of the Hem brothers and the most brutal. If he didn't play on the Shamrocks, many say he would fit in quite well with the Spartans. Charles likes to play rough and hard. He is not afraid to charge any player, regardless of body type. It helps that he is one of the strongest players on the games. He has injured more players than anyone else in the domestic leagues.

Brian Kilkenny (Back-Up)-Brian Kilkenny has played back-up for the past six years. What makes him remarkable is that he seems to be a fusion of the Hem brothers into one being. While he doesn't excel particularly at any of the Hem's skills, he can fill in for any of the Hem's, should they get injured. Brian plays for the Tile Gators in the domestic leagues. The Gators are considered the worst team in the league, though have managed to hold onto Brian who is easily the most skilled player on the team. He has sticked by the team since he signed with them in his rookie year, despite other teams offering him more lucrative contracts. He continues to believe that the Gators can become a championship level team. The Gators were one game away from making playoffs this year.

The number one shot stopper in the country, and will probably have that spot for a fair few more years, judging by his talent and perhaps the dubious talent of those below him. A talented and athletic keeper, he specialises in 1-on-1s and free-kicks

Justin Sniders - 33 - 2 caps - 0 goals - Amzterdam FC

Only had his chance during two of Tim's allocated rest games, he make look like backup, but he is a perfectly competent keeper. He performed well last season for Amzterdam, and will be looking to make headway into the national team

Maria Nifterick - 21 - 0 caps - 0 - Hague PPRC

A new, young keeper in the number 3 keeper spot, she guards the goal for the U21 squad, who play Starblaydia tonight. Talent spotted from school and drafted into Hague PPRCs squad in time for the 2010 season, she's been very successful for the club. This is her first international trip, and will look to take the experience as a learning curve, as opposed to actual game time.

Defenders:

Jennifer Loitzer - 28 - 32 caps - 3 goals - Eindhoven Tigers

Part of the strong, robust back four that keeps the work off Groenewald's shoulders. A strong, yet battle-weary right back, she's seen four world cup campaigns, netting 3 times with her head. Fierce in tackles and relentless in effort, she's a real workhorse.

Olivia Meiren - 19 - 1 cap - 0 - Limburg ACM

Another young, fresh face on the changing squad, Olivia too was talent spotted and drawn into the Limburg squad, just in time to watch them free fall down the ABPD, so as the coach desperately tried to make things work, she got plenty of game time. She impressed the team scouts, and thus got an international call up. Smaller than your average defender, but strong and fast, she makes trouble for any attacker. Also part of the DBC suqad which play tonight

Gregory Lukas: - 34 - 41 caps - 8 goals - Avengers United (Yesopalitha) - CAPTAIN

The most capped and most experienced player in the squad, Gregory has been playing since he was 17, and has never stopped. Tireless, remorseless in defence and in attack, as well as the perfect team player and role model, he makes the perfect captain for the new-look side.

Tjaard Róg - 27 - 4 caps - 1 goal - Amzterdam Wykes SC

Another brilliant defender, but has always stood in the shadow of Lukas, thus only four caps for what has been otherwise a good career. An Orange cup win, UICA football next season, the big man has seen, and will see, all that football has to offer by being included in this squad.

Dewald Pratag - 28 - 13 Caps - 2 goals - Paritzburg City SC

Originally called into the squad ahead of CoH 51 to deal with the large ursine presence of Armed Bears, his name has stuck to the team sheet. A powerful defender, the 6ft 8" man is literally larger than life. Great in the air, can score goals with head off corners, and brutal in tackles. Tends to get booked.

Robin Pieters - 22 - 3 caps - 0 goals - BC Utrecht

Pieters is perhaps more of a defensive midfield player, and will often be able to slot into that role if the assurance is needed in the middle. A versatile and dynamic player, he can function under the auspices of a defender or midfielder, and provide pace both on and off the ball when required.

Edward Mannerheim - 27 - 20 caps - 4 goals - BC Utrecht

Used to be a regular face in the side before the CoH 51, but was pushed off by a more aggressive Dewald Pratag. Sometimes meek, sometimes wild and rash, he can be indecisive at times, but is always a reliable right back. He is Strong and level-headed, and can put out a solid defensive performance

Peter van Jonheere - 30 - 36 caps - 7 goals - Preeta Bay

Integral to Cyborg Holland's game plan of sweeping counter-attacking football; Peter can leap forward to spring an attack, or sit deep and hold out wave after wave of attacks. A constant player and always reliable to do his job, Peter has been a regular starter for years.

The defence is commanded by ageing Captain Gregory Lukas. Along with man-mountains Dewald Pratag, they form a solid defensive pairing. On the wings of the defence, lie the hidden packages of van Jonheere and Jennifer Loitzer, capable of turning defence into attack in a matter of seconds. Solid and reliable most of the time, capable of holding out multiple attacks, and also having that attacking edge which some defences lack.

Midfielders:

Robert de Grapf: - 29 - 40 caps - 13 goals - Hague PPRC

Another old face in the side, Robert likes the best of both worlds in the defensive midfield role. A technically brilliant player and an excellent marksman are just a few of his traits that make him such a key and valuable figure.

Ben Alders - 19 - 0 caps - 0 goals - SV Karbruner

The only player to play for a NatEc 1st Division teams, it is a surprise the affluent youngster hasn't been snatched up by a bigger side. He has the capability to become a key player in the sides future development. He has been a key playmaker for the DBC side, especially in thier 1-0 victory over Dorian & Sonya

Marten Aggarsgard - 27 - 2 caps - 1 goal - Preeta Bay

Has been on and off for the last few seasons, he is too variant and unpredictable to be a regular for the side. But a talented central midfielder nonetheless. Almost rhythmic on the ball and vision to pick out a minute pass may make him one for the near future.

Joanna Levi - 29 - 35 caps - 12 goals - San Jose Sharks (Northern Sunrise Islands)

One of the "Dynamic Duo", Joanna is a brilliant midfield player. Happy-go-lucky, she is always buzzy around the camp and pitch. Her attitude tends to reflect her play; Happy means fast, energetic seeker football, unhappy tends to be a lot more slow, direct, defensive play. Let's hope she's happy this time round.

Helena Rutov - 27 - 37 caps - 15 goals - FC Guingamp

The other half of the "dynamic duo", she has recently completed a $6 million NHD deal to FC Guingamp from Preeta Bay. She plays as the link between the defence and attack, she likes to have control over the game in its heart, and will start the game by setting this straight with an opposition No. 7.

Tor Adralsen - 23 - 1 cap - 0 goals - Amzterdam Wykes SC

Made a solitary appearance as a 20-year old in WC59, Tor does what Helena does, provides a link, but just not as well, hence his 1 appearance. If Helena gets injured, Tor will fit right in to her position. Great at through balls and eyeing the tiniest of gaps, strikers love to play alongside him, and defenders loathe him.

Andrew Sonveringht - 31 - 38 caps - 17 goals - Eindhoven Tigers - VICE CAPTAIN

Skills that pay the bills. Quite literally. Andrew's skill is fantastic, and he is a real crowd pleaser, as well as a genuinely talented footballer. Capable of both long and short shots, as well as free-kicks and penalties, he has many arrows to his footballing quiver.

Full of experienced faces: Sonveringht, de Grapf, Levi, Rutov. All four are in the starting line up for this World Cup. Are they all a bit too old? They certainly had the talent, but do they still have it? On the bench is a plethora of young talent, but will coach Reyes give them time to perform and prove themselves?

Strikers:

Christian Thorsten - 22 - 3 caps - 1 goals - Eindhoven Tigers

The replacement for Phillip Denbradnt who is taking a break from international football for a couple of seasons, Chrisitan has been selected as his replacement. He has a lot of work to do to seal the spot, but he certainly can. He is lethal with his right foot, and powerful with his head, he can score goals in all sorts of ways.

Olver Dressen - 26 - 3 caps - 1 goal - Amzterdam FC

Olver sat in the shadow of Denbrandt, and is now rather miffed that Thorsten got picked ahead of him. Much smaller and lighter than Thorsten, he is nimble and quick on his feet, able to dodge and weave between bulky opposition defenders.

Mary Hasvarg-Lukas - 27 - 29 caps - 15 goals - Eindhoven Tigers

Another big name in the bench this time round, Mary has played her fair share of good and bad. Wily up front, she is more conservative with shots and runs than Denbrandt, but tends to have better success. Endless streams of energy and confidence put her at 100% through the whole game.

Lam van Agarten - 25 - 11 caps - 7 goals - Greeningham City (Osarius)

The replacement for Mary, Lam has waited patiently for a first team starting place. And now she has it, but can she keep it from the wily fox that is Hasvarg-Lukas. Another nimble striker who can link up superbly with both Thorsten & Dressen, as well as make the final runs to finish off a slick move, Lam has a full array of tricks in her arsenal. Deadly in the CoH despite the Dragons not passing the group stages, netting three goals in 3 games.

Rejigged after Denbrandt took a voluntary break, featuring all those who played in the ill-fated Cup of Harmony campaign, which saw the disbandenment of the CHFA. Lam van Agerten and Christian Thorsten, both very similar in thier style of play, will lead the assault. Veteran Mary Hasvarg-Lukas remains in the squad, with the addition of Olver Dressen.

Sol Kirkkegaard's shoes have been tough to fill, but Joachim Schwartz has well and truly earned the right to hold his head alongside his former boss as a top manager of the Terns after emulating his former's greatest achievements by winning the Copa. After his hardline defensive tactical decision in World Cup 62 lead to criticism from all corners despite the Terns' progression to the second round, he loosened things up a bit and allowing the attackers to show their claws a bit more in the Copa held at home, only to see the Auld Enemy once again sneak past the Terns on penalties on their way to a tournament victory at the Nasjonale. Such an embarrassment has been tough for he and the team to bear, and he goes into this qualification cycle knowing that his job is approaching the line if results down turn their trajectory around. Should he fail to qualify, or even fail to make the knockout rounds, he will surely be called in by the FPIFA.

Schwartz is hard-nosed and tough to win over. He values loyalty and hard work more than flair and showboating, so if you keep your nose clean and work hard you'll go far in his estimations. He formerly pushed hard for the inclusion of wingers in the Terns squad, but in his quest to deliver a passing defensive game he has sacrificed them from the squad once more as he seeks to show off his tactical masterplan, the Pythagorean. There are a few players getting a bit long in the tooth this tournament, so there may well be another 'generation change' on the horizon. What he's concentrating on for now, however, is a successful qualification attempt and a good World Cup. That, and a win against Astograth.

After Kirkkegaard left, Schwartz elected to keep much the same coaching and fitness squad intact. Also, with Kallstrom taking on a somewhat more senior role, former Tern and hero of both the big clubs in the capital, Henning Tir is taking on his first coaching role. Between them, they are in charge of the most crucial parts of Schwartz's plan: tactical understanding and discipline, levels of fitness that exploit the natural hardiness and stamina of Polarians, and an in-depth knowledge and analysis of the oppositions' strengths and weaknesses.

From his early days at the U-21s squad, it was clear to all that Jan Rasmus has talent. After several seasons working the penalty area at FC Axel Heiburg and becoming a real goalkeeper you can trust, he finally has the silverware to back up his talents as FC Axel Heiburg took the Divisjon One title for the second time last season, following it up with a Champions' Cup victory. A backup to Gammel for many seasons, this lanky goalkeeper is now the first choice and will be the last line of defence in Schwartz's masterplan. Whether this will be his last tournament for the Terns remains as of yet unknown, but he will be keen to add another medal to his considerable haul.

So often seen bombing down the wing in support of the attackers or simply on a distracting run that defenders have to cope with, Juul has truly blossomed under the new tactical regime implemented by Schwartz, turning from a dependable and solid right-back with an attacking twist into a full-on attacking wing-back. He is fast, a natural leader, has almost single-handedly turned around Jan Mayen Islanders' fortunes on the pitch, and calm and confident on the ball, and will be one of the most consistent performers in the side, week-in, week-out, launching attack after attack up the right wing as required to by the formation being played. With his hundredth cap safely in his pocket, he can now move towards consolidating his own personal place in the Terns' hall of fame.

#3 - DC - Julius Oyen-Spekke - Age 28 - East Franz Athletic - 61 Caps, 5 Assists, 3 Goals
Quietly putting in matchwinning performances isn't easy in the Federation League, where every move is scrutinised and caught on camera, but playing for a club outside the big four has helped. Oyen-Spekke is a young defender upon many hopes rest, and his promotion to the starting XI was once upon a time seen as something of a risk by Schwartz, however daft that may sound now. He hasn't looked back since, and following disappointing results for Resolute Storm he has moved for big money to East Franz Athletic. His agility and ability in the air is almost unmatched, and for sheer athleticism he'll be hard to beat, particularly as he is a huge threat in the opposition box as well.

#4 - DC - Torre Urfstadt - Age 31 - Club ESF (Valanora) - 115 Caps, 2 Assist, 3 Goals
Urfstadt is one of the most exciting players to come from the Torshavn ranks in a long time, and he was a crucial part of their continued presence in Divisjon One and a vital component in their Cygnus Cup winning squad. In fact, they've never quite replaced him since his move to Valanora. Fast, powerful, and one of the shining lights in the Terns' crown, he is a truly formidable defender - the likes of which the Federation hasn't seen since Niko Marek. Expect his 6'8" frame to be a danger in the opposing penalty box as well.

#5 - DL - Kohev Küngas-Vaga - Age 23 - Northbrook Diamonds FK - 28 Caps, 6 Assists, 3 Goals
Impressed as the U-21s captain despite going out in the group stages of the DBC, this defender is well known and trusted by van der Riise, so it was no surprise to see him at the Brevity Challenge Cup. One of only two players to play in each and every match of that campaign, Kohev is a combative and battling left-back, though in truth he can play anywhere across the back five players, and this youthful enthusiasm and adaptability is something that Schwartz will be able to make good use of, I'm sure. Moving to the first team for the Copa as a result of Edvar Folke's hamstring tear, his athleticism was called upon to offer support and attacks from down the left side, and he has now ousted the SK defender from the starting XI.

#6 - DMC - Jorgen Hauge - Age 35 - FC Axel Heiburg - 195 Caps, 27 Assists, 20 Goals - CAPTAIN
Every good national side needs a solid and inspiring captain, as well as a player so full of patriotic zeal and fervour that he will put his body on the line in the name of the team time after time. For the Terns, both of these players is Jorgen Hauge. His marauding hatchet-man presence in front of the defence means attackers can't relax for a second, and Jorgen, who is impressively large even by Polarian standards, has a fearsome international reputation that led to him being given the captain's armband - such is the level of importance he holds for the Terns. If he does his job correctly, it allows others to do theirs more easily, and he sees everything that happens on the pitch. Under the guidance of Schwartz and Kanchelskis he has improved his fitness and his mobility greatly, and as such he operates in one of the two crucial pivot positions of Schwartz's tactical revolution as the fulcrum for the 'defensive triangle'. In defence he is a glorified libero, and in attack he becomes a deep-lying playmaker. Not bad with and from set pieces, either, and perhaps out of sheer longevity more than anything else, his tally of twenty goals for the Terns from defensive midfield actually puts him in the all-time top ten Terns scorers. Moving back from Zarbli to finish his career in the Federation, Hauge will retire from international football at the end of this cycle, and he has no intention of making his swansong a feeble one.

#7 - MC - Niko Lepka - Age 29 - Jan Mayen Islanders - 76 Caps, 40 Assists, 7 Goals
Not many would have expected such an experienced and calm reader of the game to reside in a body so young at the time, however, Sol Kirkkegaard saw the talent this young midfielder has to bring the table, and brought him in in repeated squads as he did with van Sorensen, hoping to see the same results. After a number of short cameos offered mere tasters of what he is capable of, he managed to secure a more permanent position and has since thrived under Schwartz's regime. Playing for Atletik Thessia and RVA before moving to Jan Mayen, he was well experienced and highly thought of in both Mytannion and Erathore before his subsequent move to the Islanders, who utilise his talents in a three man compact attacking midfield. He likes to give as good as he gets, physically speaking, but his real skill lies with distribution, and he is seen as the successor to Demarchelier.

#8 - MC - Marten Cornelius - Age 26 - FC Axel Heiburg - 20 Caps, 8 Assists, 1 Goal
Cornelius comes into the squad having been an inspiring presence for the U-21s in the past, as well as some impressive game-changing performances for Axel Heiburg recently as he was a key member of their Champions' Cup title-winning side. Two assists in his first five caps for the Terns gave glimpses of a fine midfielder with excellent vision, and despite playing a more attacking role similar to Lepka's, we see him in the traditionally 'box-to-box' slot in Schwartz's midfield plan. His inspirational midfield performance against Yuba United in the final of the Champions' Cup, pinging passes left right and centre as the Silver-Blues had no answer to his output, shows us that he's perhaps the closest thing we've got to a replacement for Alexsandr van Sorensen's driving midfield creativity in the face of Vladimir Konovalov's absence.

#9 - ST - Ellis Elmsvikur - Age 30 - Royal Rumiatzi (Astograth) - 83 Caps, 10 Assists, 44 Goals
Imposing and athletic, Elmvikur is the complete package. Fast, nimble, packed with stamina, a dead ball ace, good in the air, and with a lethal shot, he can play as both a poacher or as a supporting striker. You name it, he can do it, has done it, and will continue to do it. Very highly thought of in the Iturributan league, he nonetheless ditched Iturributa for the Astograthi league in the form of Timo Skye's former side, Royal Rumiatzi, and justified his huge transfer fee to the world with some impressive performances since, including scoring the Terns' first ever hat trick in the World Cup finals. Opposition defences will have to mark him down as one to watch, with more than one goal in two for the Terns so far despite their defensive outlook last World Cup, and despite his age he will continue to be a key part of Terns side for a while yet.

#10 - AMC - Alexsandr van Sorensen - Age 32 - AS Bezieres (Valladares) - 187 Caps, 75 Assists, 82 Goals - VICE-CAPTAIN
Shining light of the side Alexsandr is now just turning thirty-two, and at his best he can be devastatingly untouchable. Played a vital role for Jan Mayen before his move to Cafundéu where he played for Petardos S/A after CR Submiria, and is now making waves with Valladar club AS Bezieres in the Super League, winning the Cygnus Cup three times in he process. Suffers from rare brain condition synaesthesia, meaning his senses get muddled up in his head, but manages to not let this affect his attractive attacking play - indeed if anything it appears to help him. Having played as a midfielder for Petardos S/A, Joachim Schwartz has made full use of this natural tendency of Alexsandr's and placed upon his shoulders the other crucially important role in his tactical scheme - taking up the pivotal trequartista role behind the strikers in the 'attacking triangle', and acting as a midfielder when the side has to defend. Almost certainly an all-time legend already, he is without a doubt the Terns' key player at this tournament, and indeed he probably will be until he retires. Speaking of which, at thirty-two years old now, if the Terns are going to use one of the best players in the world (probably) to propel them to a first world title, they haven't got many chances left.

#11 - ST - Diedrich Kvitchenko - Age 30 - East Franz Athletic - 81 Caps, 11 Assists, 28 Goals
With twenty-eight goals in his Terns career so far, Kvitchenko perhaps hasn't hit quite the same forms in his international career as he does domestically. Nonetheless, he is a lethal striker, and is capable of playing out wide left or right and cutting in if required to do so. He is faster than he looks, even at thirty, and likes to use this to surprise defenders - changing direction and making a darting run that finishes in a first-time shot before many are even aware he changed direction. His ability to find space like this has been likened to witchcraft by a few defenders, and though he might not touch the ball much during the match, when he does, he uses it efficiently. His pace was missed at the Copa in the light of Elmsvikur's age restricting his own, with Kvitchenko still seemingly as fast as he ever was - so despite Illich-Svitych's impressive performances, it is Kvitchenko who takes back the starting place in the line-up.

#12 - GK - Piotr Hemjann-Bezelhov - Age 29 - Jan Mayen Islanders - 8 Caps, 1 Assist
Taking over the first gloves at Jan Mayen since Mathias Marek's sudden move abroad had been something of a baptism of fire for the keeper, but his reflexes and speed off his line have kept him right and his performances have dragged the Ospreys back into title contention as a result. Seems to be forever used as a backup keeper for the Terns, it is thought that he may be used in this role even after Jan Rasmus has retired, rather than having everyone on the 'conveyor belt' move one along.

#13 - GK - Artemiusz Korzhanenko - Age 23 - SK Franz Josef City - 1 Cap
After some strong performances for the u-21s, Korzhanenko was handed the chance to make his first Terns cap in this home tournament just as he captured the number one jersey at SK. Nigh on unbeatable when challenging for the ball in the box, he also has a great record in penalty shoot outs, and he will continue the Polarian tradition of tongue-twisting goalkeepers here.

#14 - DMC - Iulian Finnibaturinn - Age 31 - Urbizania Wanderers (Astograth) - 59 Caps, 6 Assists, 4 Goals
Having just left Surtsey to go to Astograth with the aim of bursting back into the Terns team, I don't think even Iulian Finnibaturinn was expecting the speed of his return to be quite so swift. With Einmark up in the air a little at the moment as he makes his own move abroad, the stage was set for the former Surtsey midfielder to steal to the show, and with a series of impressive leadership performances en route to the Brevity Challenge Cup final, that's exactly what Finnibaturinn has managed. An experienced pair of legs to bring on for Hauge if required, having won the Champions' Cup with Urbizania.

#15 - DL - Edvar Folke - Age 30 - SK Franz Josef City - 91 Caps, 4 Assists, 3 Goals
A hugely dynamic presence in the defence, Folke plays his way for SK after starting abroad, and his huge promise impressed Schwartz enough to ensure he kept the starting position over his rival Luka Baalsen for so long, his exciting runs being a particular highlight. Schwartz has kept faith with the SK full back since Kirkkegaard's departure despite a perceived lack in the press of the assists he racks up for his club, taking him back over Vaaraniemi now he's back from injury, and his experience and consistency at the back can only help the side.

#16 - DR - Alexander Hesjedal - Age 22 - Northbrook Diamonds FK - 4 Caps
For another of the young players called up at the Copa through injury to more established players, see here. Hesjedal has been in the Northbrook first team for a while now, and has captured the nation's imagination with some commanding performances at the DBC. Dima Pedersen was be disappointed to have missed out through lack of fitness, but the coaches are sure that Hesjedal is more than a worthy replacement understudy for Zacharias Juul. Known as 'the Snowstorm' to his affectionate fans, he is notable for being albino.

#17 - MC - Eyvindur Sudesval - Age 27 - SK Franz Josef City - 29 Caps, 2 Assists, 2 Goals
Having captained the u-21s in the past, Sudesval came to the senior side with a wealth of experience already in his back pocket. Confident in his own abilities, he lets his football do the talking, and this quiet individual can often be seen practising alone if left to his own devices. Strong in the air and full of potential, his fitness levels are astonishing, able to run end to end for 120 minutes if needed to, therefore making him a perfect payer for Schwartz's system. Boasts a powerful thunderbolt of a shot as well as the ability to control and dictate a match. He's a pro all-round midfielder, which is exactly why SK have brought him back from Saugeais in an effort to fix their lack of weight in the middle of the park. If Cornelius and Lepka prove to be too top heavy a midfield partnership we may well see him appearing from the substitute bench rather a lot.

#18 - ST - Vadim Illich-Svitych - Age 23 - FC Axel Heiburg - 23 Caps, 1 Assist, 9 Goals
Sending both Jagr and Illich-Svitych to Wight for the Brevity Cup saw the latter find his range with explosive style in his first match off the bench, and he was frequently brought on to terrorise defences late in the game after that. He has had a couple of outstanding seasons in the Federation League, quite rightly catching the eye as FC Axel Heiburg lifted the title twice and took the Champions' Cup with them, and this young striker with the dazzlingly good ball skills will seek to continue his hot streak from the bench here. Diedrich Kvitchenko has taken back the first team place for now, but Vadim isn't likely to let that rest. The best way to do that, say his critics, is to score more of the chances created for him.

#19 - MC - Jean-Eric Villeneuve - Age 22 - Northbrook Diamonds FK - 9 Caps, 4 Assists, 2 Goals
Moving back to Northbrook from Cap Nordique in Cotdelapoms, Villeneuve is a creative attacking midfielder in the same mould as Lepka and Demarchelier and, like the latter, he hails from the Rochefroides community in Ellismare. Fluent in five languages, he is incredibly intelligent as far as footballers go, and his range of passing and vision on the pitch is evidence of this. Not the fastest player to have ever hit the turf, he lets the football do all the hard work for him, which can lead to his apparent lack of effort being an easy target for disgruntled fans is results aren't going so well. Fortunately, with Jean-Eric in the side, this is rarely the case, and he had an outstanding tournament at the Copa.

#20 - ST - Felix Saarinen - Age 26 - East Franz Athletic - 16 Caps, 8 Goals
With a series of hugely impressive performances in the Federation League, Saarinen's partnership up front with Kvitchenko has seen the Polarian duo become one of the most feared partnerships in the league. He is fast and nimble, and yet for his age is able to command a lone striker position if necessary. Tall and a dangerous figure in the box, any cameo appearances from the bench against tired legs will be sure to see him make an impact. Twitchers are excited to see just what he can do in the Terns shirt in another campaign after scoring three goals in two appearances at the Copa, taking his international ratio up to one-in-two - and I tell you what, so am I.

#21 - MC - Jorgen-Franz Bru - Age 31 - East Franz Athletic - 54 Caps, 6 Assists, 5 Goals
Despite being East Franz captain, Bru has had spend his fair share of time away from the Terns, whether through injury or by being passed over in place of Emrahn Vik. Ever since, the Vik vs Bru debate has long raged in internet chat-rooms, with people realising exactly what Schwartz has - that playing them both in the same XI is nigh-on impossible given their closely matched talents and roles in the squad. He is a determined leader on the pitch, and is fiercely competitive at all times. There are younger players looking over his shoulder however, like Kirvesniemi and Kaasalainen, so his presence in the future is far from guaranteed.

#22 - DC - Olivier Kindahl - Age 28 - Metropolis Alligators (Valladares) - 29 Caps, 1 Assist
Selected by Schwartz, Mature-beyond-his-years Olivier stepped up to the plate magnificently in the last three games of the tournament when he got his chance, and Twitchers are safe in the knowledge he will always be there to back them up on the pitch if needed. Nearly as tall as the imperious Urfstadt, Kindahl is a terror in both boxes as you would expect, and his marking skills are second to none. His accurate long range passing from the back can often be the start of a devastating counter-attack if the forwards use their initiative, and his experience in Valladares has greatly improved his game. A favourite with press and fans alike thanks to his easy-going nature.

#23 - DC - David Wien - Age 23 - Jan Mayen Islanders - 5 Caps
Thanks to Jan Mayen Islanders' partnership with Liventian team Caernville Seahawks, Wien has already accumulated a significant amount of first team experience; experience that has set him up well as he moved not only back home to Jan Mayen, but also from the u-21s side into the full international side. His leadership and positional knowledge is already at an advanced stage, and his popularity with the other players in the side is noticeable to all. Pencilled in by some in the media as a future captain, he walks the fine line between being popular and being a leader like an expert. Despite this, his short temper can sometimes let him down.

TACTICS: "The Pythagorean" 2-3-3-2
The Polarian game is fast, quick, and physical. They won't give you a second on the ball to think, and they won't hold back in the tackle. In the centre of the park they will play a possession based midfield game, though a defence splitting pass could come at any moment towards the fast and direct attack. Schwartz's tactical plan, a narrow and heavily modified diamond formation dubbed the Pythagorean by the sporting press, is reliant upon two key triangular sets of players that transcend the normal "rows" of player in conventional formation layouts. Oyen-Spekke, Urfstadt, and Hauge will act as the defensive triangle, and van Sorensen, Elmsvikur, and Kvitchenko will counter at the other end as the offensive triangle. Hauge and van Sorensen's roles in this scheme are absolutely crucial, as their job is to support and unlock the other two players in their respective triangles, providing outlets and creativity in abundance. Lepka and Cornelius will be part of a compact and creative midfield that will supply steel or style whenever the situation demands it, as well as partnering up with their respective full backs to form a kind of "bumper" that sweeps the flanks in attack or folds in to protect the penalty area in defence. Fitness of all players will therefore be key to the success of this plan, not least the constant positional changing demanded of Hauge and van Sorensen, but the athleticism of Juul and Küngas-Vaga in particular will be tested to the limit as their roles require frequent attacking. It's not quite a 4-3-3, it's not quite a 4-1-2-1-2, and it's not quite a W-M... its the Pythagorean.

The goal that Holliday scored at the world cup finals escalated the Knights to their first ever appearance in the Quarterfinals, a year after their first advancement from the Group Stage. The goal also manages to haunt the dreams of Eurans everywhere. Over the period since the World Cup though the much heralded Holliday left a dying team and is now available to gentleman club callers. Whilst he waits though he will be scaring strikers everywhere in front of the Knights otherwise empty net.

22 - Jon Obliski - Tintown Terrapins 1 Cap, 28 Years Old
Behind Holliday is a Tintown home grown stud. The most acclaimed Goalkeeper in the Taeshan Soccer League Obliski is a fit back up internationally, but will undoubtedly be a number two for his whole career. Not only is he he only a year younger than Holliday, but is also close to being surpassed by the female keeper Ryleigh Voegael. So he takes what little chances he gets and runs with it.

23- Ryleigh Voegael - Dragoste Dragons 2 Caps, 23 Years Old
The future of Taeshani Goalkeeping. Raised in Antoletia, and still unwilling to leave the team which has brought her to the place she currently is. She will still need to wait at least another year before being the Knights starter, but overall things are looking green for her.

Defenders
3- Jordan Jaffacake (CB)- Moresville FC 43 Caps, 4 Caps, 21 Years Old
The tall defender from Moresville continues to hound strikers in the center of one of the most defensive minded teams in the world. He is a strong center back who shows a consistency not matched by most defenders in the Taeshani league.

4- Peter Fasnacht (RB) - Los Riosa Monstas 0 Caps, 21 Years Old
The new kid on the block, and hes starting. The former Co-Captain on the U21 squad with Jeremiah Longwaters, and the man who was stuck there until the retirement of Vanswoi, he is now starting and will look to show what a fullback does on the field. And him joining the team means that the Fullbacks are now more of a threat to move forward with two true wingbacks threatening the wings.

7- Jeremiah Longwaters (LB) - Gordonopia FC (United Gordonopia) 43 Caps, 1 Goal, 20 Years Old
Now Jeremiah has been reteamed with former friend and teammate Peter Fasnacht, Longwaters continues to show an ability to defend and move forward many fullbacks historically in Taeshan have not held. Now he really will be able to continue on.

19- Lydie (CB) - Moresville FC 43 Caps, 3 Goals, 21 Years Old
The short Center back is far from unable to hold her own in the defense of the Knights. The most resilient, fiery and many times the most capable of the Knights backs Lydie continues to show to the world that size isn't everything.

2- Eddie Styles (FB)- Bayern Phoenix 7 Caps, 1 Goal, 22 Years Old
The assumed heir to the Theodore Vanswoi thrown and the least likely to be happy about getting passed over for one of the new kids on the block. Now he has got to show the gaffer that unlike what he thinks he is the best fullback not starting and that they need to give him his chance.

15- Grant Wetter (CB) - SK Aasiaat Harbour (Polar Islandstates), 4 Caps, 23 Years Old
Surprisingly the oldest of the 7 defensive backs at 23. He brings their overall age up a bit, and he is really killing the idea of the youngest and best defense in the world.

21- Gloria Walters (FB) - Gilley FC (Saugeais) 3 Caps, 22 Years Old
She is the second of the female backs for the Knights, and is a capable replacement on the fullback.

Midfielders
6- Gwyn Juniper (LM) - Olympique de Fontvielle (Valladares) 173 Caps, 51 Goals, 30 Years Old
The only current member of the national team with 100 caps, and only one with more than 25 goals. He was able to skirt the Taeshani retirement age of 30 and may be around for a few years to come. He is getting old, but he is still as strong and clever as ever and perhaps he can break the 200 Cap and 75 goal level before he does retire.

9- Manny Pato (CDM)- Bayern Phoenix 2 Caps, 1 Goal, 24 Years Old
The real gem of the sorthern managers first season under the helm. For most of qualifying he proved unused by the team and and had bouts with the flu. But come the second game of the group stage of the world cup, and boy did he sparkle. He helped the team score goals in the next 2 games and currently has the highest Goal per game percentage on the team. He also is much better than his predecessor.

14- Xavier Ptolemy (CAM) - Bayern-Algaer 16 Caps, 2 Goals, 24 Years Old
Xavier Ptolemy will now be starting at Attacking Midfielder, and boy has that excited the soccer fans of Taeshan. Ptolemy has for 8 years been scoring and assisting goals for one of the most famous teams in Taeshan. Given the chance now to start internationally, he will be able to help the teams forward movement and ball management.

16- Elijah Knickerbocker (RM) - Atlantea Hurricanes 95 Caps, 1 Goal, 29 Years Old (CAPTAIN)
Oh Captain, My Captain. Elijah is the captain, and a level headed man in the middle. He's the man keeping the team together throughout the season, and he also has been known to assist a lot.

12- Andrew Müller (CM) - Unattached 7 Caps, 21 Years Old
Also currently available Andrew is a solid man in the center, and can score as well. Overall though he is a solid midfielder.

13- Tyler Icicle (RM) - Tintown Terrapins 7 Caps, 22 Years Old
The iceman commeth. Tyler is a tall midfielder and makes use of this as a useable third striker in case it is needed. A nice target in the center and hes not to bad as a free kick taker.

17- Aaron Conrad (CM) - Blacklake Blues 0 Caps, 22 Years Old
The second new kid on the block Conrad is a young gun from Blacklake who will really be looking to learn in the next few years. He's not really known outside of Taeshan and he will like to look to get his name out there, and show his worth to clubs around the world.

25- Walter Palisades (CM) - Real Chinchinhua 4 Caps, 27 Years Old
With only 4 caps to show for his first season wearing the purple and gold Palisades still managed to show certain sparks with the chances he did get, hopefully for the Real fans he will get more of a chance as he continues with the team.

8- Ender Wiggin (RS) Dartmoor (FSSO) 72 Caps, 22 Goals, 24 Years Old
Now in a more natural position and with the great passing system behind him Wiggin can go for the scoring record Brian Ying Uing has long held. Long has he awaited the chance to move forward and worry about scoring, and with the move from CAM he will continue the long tradition of strikers who have little help from a backward thinking midfield and Defense.

11- Ryan Portmanteau (LS) Ojian Orangemen 19 Caps, 28 Years Old
Portmanteau may not score a lot, and still has managed to not in a Knights uniform, but he is a master assassin finding men close to goal to score, and he many times does everything humanly possible to get his team to victory.

5- Kyle Laravy (RS) Mt Ceabring Thunder 14 Caps, 1 Goal, 20 Years Old
The youngest of the strikers, and the rawest Laravy continues to surprise with his natural talents at Mt Ceabring. With the new stadium in Mt Ceabring, he may very well one day make it the house that Laravy built.

10- Brian Ibrahim (LS) Unattached 24 Caps, 8 Goals, 22 Years Old
Scoring in a third of his appearances Ibrahim's second year internationally proved to be an interesting one. Now with Wiggin moving into the starting Striker opposite of Portmanteau Ibrahim will continue to be the first man likely to go in. With his new found ability to score, and an adaptable nature to different defenses, than the man will most likely be finding a new position starting somewhere in the world.

20- Brian Kjlestan (RS) Bayern-Algaer 0 Caps, 26 Years Old
The third new member of the team, Kjlestan is another one of the strikers usually at the tops of the Taeshani scoring charts. He is the type of guy to score in bunches and if he gets hot sometime during qualifying i am sure he would be able to scare lots of teams in the coming months.

24- Seth Clapton (RS) Los Riosa Monstas 6 Caps, 27 Years Old
Finally given a chance last season after a brilliant run of seasons as a striker in Los Riosa, 6 caps in the last few years and hes been all together unaspiring in his starts. He still is a good striker in the league, and maybe he can surprise the team and throw some spice in an altogether predictable striking corps.

Arna-Maggra o Wirrenne enters her second campaign with the Bumblebees with high hopes and great expectations. The former Bear-Belles lynchpin has installed the traditional Bears Armed alignment with great success. Matt Chauvin, winner of nearly a hundred caps in the Bumblebees back line, has proved to be a capable and compatible assistant.

Their goal is straightforward: Get to the final and win.

Writer Phyllis Reeves once called the Bears Armed system "a Babbage 4-6 on steroids". It features a full-blown five-player front end, three forwards and two wingers with an aggressive mindset, and an "X" in back with two half backs, two full backs, and the characteristic lynchpin at the centre of it all.

The Bumblebees boast a wide range of attacking options while playing three true forwards and a pair of wingers in the Bears Armed style. After a number of seasons with "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" at Great Falls Cymru, Valentine Armstrong's jump to Celtic-Southland surprised many. He's still the best pure scorer on the squad, although Parisian captain Emily Howell and Bloomfield National striker Bearchan O'Dea also reliably contribute. The two new starters up front, Sergio Flores Cotto and Stefan Gill, mix World Cup experience and comparative youth. Of the newcomers Valdimar Margeirsson is most likely to see significant minutes, possibly at any of the three forward spots.

Saturnino has retired. But Ava Gillespie nonetheless leads a familiar back five, and all is right with the world. Gillespie gets a lion's share of credit for making Arna-Maggra's vision work. As a technician she is excellent, but as an inspiration Ava continues to be without peer. After his embarrassing dismissal in the last campaign a chastened Joey Baldwin returns in the rear partnering starter-at-last Noemi Alba, who was arguably the main beneficiary of Baldwin's fall from grace. Coll Brodie and Mike Ryan will provide aggressive two-way play as half backs, and former starter Dirk Oyler is ready to step in should either falter. Off the bench watch for the two teenagers in the squad to get significant time against lesser lights or late in blowouts. Both Jessica Taylor and Xióng Chízŭ have natural talents, embryonic star power, and bright futures.

In her five previous World Cup appearances Kaitlyn Miller has established herself as the greatest Babbage keeper ever. At 31 she is surely still young enough to start. But her backup, Maria Carrizales, is now starting in one of the world's top leagues and won't be denied much longer. A scheme of alternating starts is quite likely during qualifying and pre-tournament friendlies. Both women have recent championships under their belts for Bloomfield National and FK Maribor respectively, the latter before two major transfers.

Qualifying stadium

The Bumblebees will continue playing all their home qualifiers at a single stadium as they began doing in World Cup 62 qualifying. The U.F.O. (Universal Football Oval) in Cardston, Gibson, is a retractable-roof all-seater facility recently upgraded to officially seat 40,004. It is home to regional league club Cardston FC and the Babbage code team Cardston Space Cadets, and the stadium has hosted top-flight play in at least seven football codes. The city of Cardston is the home of the Babbage space program, and that community identification shows throughout this cutting-edge design. Overseas visitors will most often fly into Wye International Airport on South Island and then connect on One Big Airline to the optimistically-styled Spaceport Babbage just outside Cardston.

OOC: For fair RP bonus attribution, most of the characters included on this roster are from the Doctor Who TV Series (and from a couple of Dr. Who books) and are either real, as in play a part in the series, or just random variations but from the species listed in Dr. Who. Some names will come from the members' list of this thread. For more background info, most of the species should be found on Wikipedia; except for Lazarus, for which you need to search for 'The Lazarus Experiment'. For the Raxacoricofallapatorians, search Slitheen. For Silurian, see 'Cold Blood' or 'The Hungry Earth' (followed by Doctor Who if necessary). For Rory, search 'The Pandorica Opens'.

Manager: Rassilon (Species: Time Lord; the first Lord President of Gallifrey, Rassilon created the Eye of Harmony, which gave the Time Lords their time travelling ability. All in all, he became the foundation of Gallifrey, although that may all be just public relations. He had discovered the secret to immortality, but was deposed by rebellious Time Lords, before going into an eternal sleep in the Tomb of Rassilon, located in the Death Zone. Late on in the Time War, he was seemingly brought back to direct the war efforts, but as he was willing to destroy the Time Vortex and thus the whole of creation [in the Whoniverse, if not all universes], to win the Time War, the Doctor time-locked him and the whole of Gallifrey.)
Assistant Manager: Adam Loftus (Normal human; returns to the national team after a break of a few World Cups, but has basically been the behind the many managers there have been since the creation of the team back in World Cup 49 [OOC: a bit like Stuart Pearce of England].)
Coach: Sameer Ahmad (Normal human, aged 48; is the older brother of Shabeen, and also has one of the higher goal counts, but has been much eclipsed by his brother's success.)
Coach and Team blogger:Shabeen Ahmad III (Normal Human, aged 46; has scored over 200 goals for the EL national team, and is still an inspiration to everyone, nearly taking the team to the playoffs in World Cup 58, which has his first foray into full management.)

This team were all taken out of their respective time-lines by Time Scoop technology, so where some may be dead by this time, they are alive at this point in space-time. And it was the ELFA who did this, with the help of its inventor, Rassilon.

Goalkeepers:

Blon Fel-Fotch Pasameer-Day Slitheen: Species: Raxacoricofallapatorian (family: Slitheen); refer to as Blon. Was caught impersonating MI5's Margaret Blaine in 2005 (Earth time), where she and her family members were planning to instigate World War III and turn the planet into fissile material, ready to sell. With the plan destroyed by a well-timed Harpoon missile, she managed to escape, but was the only one. She then went on to become Mayor of Cardiff, using a nuclear plant and the Cardiff Rift to attempt to escape. She did, but in doing so regressed into an egg, and was delivered to the hatcheries on Raxacoricofallpatorius for a second chance at life.

The Abzorbaloff: Species: Unknown, but related to Raxacoricofallapatorians (albeit despising them); Originating from Raxacoricofallapatorius' twin planet, Clom, this particular one came to Earth and tricked a group of humans who were searching for the Doctor to join him, but eventually absorbing them all to satisfy his hunger.

Outfielders (Basically, this lot can play anywhere on the pitch apart from in goal):

Strax: He was a Commander for the Sontaran Military, but was disgraced for an unknown reason, and then was forced to become a nurse by the Doctor, to settle a debt. Has since become a member of the Doctor's Victorian London detective team.

Reaper: Species: Reaper; Flying bat-like creatures with scythe-like tails, the Reapers are extradimensional beings, who have the ability to materialise in normal spacetime when a paradox occurs, devouring everything in the area to repair the damage. They can be stopped by material barriers, the older the better, but not permanently, and a paradox on the other side of the barrier will let them through quicker.

Madame Vastra: species: Silurian; Is another of the people who the Doctor a debt, in this case, it is for saving her from a life of crime and hiding out in the early London underground, and she in turn became a veiled Victorian detective. Part of the Doctor's Victorian detective team.

Creet: species: Toclofane/Human (from the year 100 trillion and reduced to live inside metal balls); With the universe on the brink of ending, a group of humans were building a means of escape to "Utopia". With the help of the Doctor, they managed to do so, but only found darkness, and then they cannibalised themselves into this shape. This particular one was a young boy who worked in the sanctuary.

The Doctor: species: Time Lord, age: last confirmed to be 1103 (although he doesn't really know himself). Words cannot describe this man's life, but as for football, he's had "plenty" of experience, having played a match for the King's Arm Pub League Football team and scoring more than two hat-tricks in that single match (and now World Cups 59 through 62 alongside Copa Rushmoris and Cups of Harmony). Plays mainly up front.

Captain Jack Harkness: species: unknown (very humanoid though); Jack grew up on the Boeshane Peninsula as a kid and joined the Time Agency, but quit after a few years, becoming a con man with a Vortex Manipulator (basic time travel). After meeting the Doctor during the Blitz, Jack dies on Satellite 5 in the year 200,000, but is then brought back to life by the Time Vortex, effectively becoming immortal.

Rory the Plastic Centurion: species: Auton, created by the Nestene Consciousness; refer to as Rory; Dressed up in full Roman armour, Rory has had a miserable past, one that has included being killed, followed shortly after by not being born, followed by becoming a plastic duplicate with a full human consciousness. However, he is rather hardened by all this, and also has a gun in his right hand which he won't use, but will still throw himself into anything nothing less than fully committed.

Raston Warrior Robot: species: None, it is a machine; This robot has been called 'the most perfect killing machine ever devised', being able to move faster than lightning and to kill a troop of Cybermen in seconds. Its face is featureless, and its weapons are collapsible and miniaturizable, and so concealed. For the purposes of this campaign, its weapons have been remotely disarmed, but it still moves faster than normal humans can see.

Pyrovile: species Pyrovile; A humanoid being made of pure magma and volcanic rock, Pyroviles are vicious (albeit quite slow), not to mention being about 5 times the height of average humans when fully grown. Pyroviles originated from the planet Pyrovilia, but crash landed on Earth after their home was lost. They grew in the bowels of Mount Vesuvius, giving some of the locals the power of soothsaying. They planned to convert the entire human race to Pyroviles, and in turn create a new Pyrovilia. As a consequence of his magma nature, all match balls will be lined with lead to prevent them from bursting.

Jenny: species: Human/Time Lord hybrid; The Doctor was taken by the TARDIS to Messaline, where a war was raging between humans and fish-like humanoids called Hath. The Doctor then had his hand put into a progenation machine, used to produce clones for the war, and out came Jenny. She was later on killed by a commander who refused to accept the ceasefire, but then came back to life, having died in the presence of a terraforming device. She was last seen blasting off in the rocket, looking for adventure, and now she's here.

Modified Weeping Angel: species: Weeping Angel; modifications: only becomes a statue when opposition player with the ball is looking at it; No information known as of yet.

Professor Lazarus: Species: Severely mutated human (completely not humanoid at times), refer to as Lazarus; Professor Lazarus was eighty-odd years old, but invented a machine which could manipulate a person's DNA and make them younger. The first demonstration nearly catastrophically fails, but Lazarus emerges much younger. However, his DNA was since found to be unstable, and it showed when Lazarus changed into a scorpion-like creature that drained the life energy of other humans in order to keep him young.

Dalek Sec: Species: Human Dalek (Dalek that has taken on a humanoid form); After the Battle of Canary Wharf, the Cult of Skaro, now armed with the knowledge that they were the last Daleks in existence, escaped to 1930's New York, where they planned to recreate themselves in a humanoid form, by merging symbiotically with kidnapped humans deemed to be of superior intelligence. The leader of the cult, Dalek Sec, was the first to do so, merging with the businessman behind the building of the Empire State Building to form a Human Dalek. The remaining pure Daleks stopped the program upon seeing a Sec having emotions.

Silent: species: The Silence; The Silence is a religious order that believes that Silence will fall when the first question, the oldest question in the universe, is put to the Doctor, on the fields of Trenzelor, where no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer. They attempted to bring down the Doctor through an abducted part Time Lord child (no relation to the Doctor), and kill him in a still point, thus creating a fixed point. But they failed.

Captain Tybo: Species: Judoon; refer to as Tybo; Is a Juddoon captain who crashed on Earth whilst transporting the Juddoon's most wanted criminal, Androvax the Destroyer, wanted for 12 counts of planetary destruction.

Vashta Nerada swarm: species: Vashta Nerada; The are microscopic organisms, which when swarming are completely indistinguishable from shadows, and being highly carnivorous, this plays into their hands. These Vashta Nerada number about 3,000,000, but are compacted into a humanoid form, for fairness. After a Kinitar player had his leg chewed off, the vashta nerada that played in that cup have been swapped for a vegetarian and pescetarian swarm (so fish people/giant vegetables beware).

Home stadium: Lodger City Memorial Stadium (cap. 150,000)
The national stadium of Eastfield Lodge since it was built not too long ago, it was built on the ruins of the old Lodger City, the former capital of Eastfield Lodge which was completely devastated by a nuclear disaster and floods within minutes of each other. It stands as a symbol of a new life, now even more prevalent after a horrible civil war and what not. But the new city has now become the footballing capital of Eastfield Lodge after some of the biggest teams moved in after Dillvill declared independence.

Because I can't be bothered to make a factbook, information about Eastfield Lodge can be found here, although some of it will be out of date. Including the facts that Dillvill declared independence and went back to normal reality, as did half the country's empire. And the fact that we are now located somewhere in Rushmore (still to be determined).

National Hoofball Team - World Cup 63 Roster

Team History
Hoofball is easily the most popular sport in the Equestrian States. Known internationally as football or soccer, the game has long been a part of the Equestrian sporting identity. However, it was not until just a few decades ago that the first national leagues began organizing in the country, and even younger than the leagues is the Equestrian national team.

Formed prior to the 58th World Cup, the first international tournament participated in by the Equestrian States was Baptism of Fire 45. But despite the team’s decent performance, they were eliminated by the end of the group stage. Looking to redeem themselves, the Equestrians joined Market Cup V. As the tournament progressed, many teams shifted their best teams to the World Cup, but the Equestrians remained invested in the Market Cup. In the end, the Equestrian States would win the Market Cup, but thanks to their neglect of the qualifiers, failed miserably in World Cup 58.

The next appearance of the Equestrian States would come in the first regional tournament in the Pony Lands: Equestria Cup I. Organized and hosted by the Equestrian States, the tournament was not large by international standards, but given the general lack of interest in sports in the Pony Lands, it was a decent-sized competition. After finishing third in the Equestria Cup, the Equestrians looked forward to World Cup 59.

While the Equestrian performance in the World Cup 59 qualifiers was okay, the team and its supporters still felt the agony of elimination despite several upsets including a scoreless draw with the highly-ranked Jeruselem squad. Fortunately, the Equestrian States was recognized for its turnaround and was invited to compete in Cup of Harmony 51. Although the Equestrians went into the tournament with low expectations, they would silence their critics by stunning the higher-ranked West Zirconia and Darmen teams on their way to winning the group. Unfortunately, the Equestrians were drawn against Wight in the round of 16 and fell in a closely-contested match.

After two World Cup qualifying campaigns, the Equestrians were slowly rising higher in the rankings. But despite their increasing successes, few expected the Equestrian States to have a strong run as the World Cup 60 qualifiers got underway. While the team experienced a sluggish start, the Equestrians quickly recovered and upset Western Cuba on the road with a draw as the first half of the campaign came to a close. The second half of the tournament would witness a display of prowess by the Equestrian States not seen since the Market Cup. In the end, the Equestrians would advance to the playoff pods after an upset victory over Western Cuba. Their first playoff match, against West Zirconia, resulted in a surprising victory for the Equestrians and they advanced to face Astograth in a match to decide who would play in the World Cup. It was a close game, but the Equestrians would fall in additional extra time and instead of a stunning World Cup berth, went on to Cup of Harmony 52. Perhaps demotivated by just how close they came to qualifying, the Equestrians performed poorly in the Cup of Harmony. Finishing third in their group with losses to Kiryu-shi and Civil Citizenry, the Equestrians were knocked out of the tournament.

The World Cup 61 qualifiers would also prove to be painful for the Equestrian States. Despite dominant wins against several decent-ranked teams, the Equestrians struggled against several of the lowest-ranked teams in the group and found themselves in fourth place at the midpoint. Having come into the tournament looking to make the World Cup for the first time, the Equestrians knew they were far behind in the race and would have to perform well in the second half to have even a chance at a playoff spot. But cruel fate seemed to be against the Equestrian States in the tournament, and despite surprising draws on the road against both Cosumar and Krytenia, the Equestrians fell just short of advancing thanks to a couple of home draws against the lower teams that robbed the Equestrian States of the precious few points that would have allowed them to advance. To add injury to insult, starting goalkeeper High Soarin’ was unable to play in the last few critical matches thanks to an untimely injury.

Once again, the Equestrians went to compete in the Cup of Harmony as a consolation prize for their valiant efforts at qualification. The group stage was difficult, and with High Soarin’ unable to play, the Equestrians were forced to rely on back-up Mac Stevenson. While the Equestrians snuck out of the group in second place, they ran into a wall against the host nation of Turori. After 120 minutes of hard play, the match was to be decided by penalties. Equestrian fans could hardly watch as Stevenson failed to stop a single shot. Once again, the Equestrian States had come close only to be denied and eliminated.

Making their fifth attempt to qualify in World Cup 62, the Equestrians were drawn into Group 9 and went on the road to start their campaign against expected group runner-up Darmen. But the Ponies stunned the Darmenis, taking home a shocking upset victory by a score of 3-2. However, the team's morale would take a severe beating three weeks later in Qazox, where the Equestrians suffered their worst defeat of all-time (6-2) and also lost goalkeeper High Soarin' for the next few months to an injury. As the qualifiers progressed, the Ponies were handed upsets by both United Gordonopia and the Scandinavian Islands. The team's once considerable lead over Darmen shrank to a mere two points, and the Ponies were forced to keep on winning to stay ahead of the Darmenis. In the end, the group's playoff spot was to be decided on the final match day. The Equestrians played on the road in the hellish wastelands of Gangnam, while the Darmenis faced Qazox. While Darmen determined starters would overrun the Qazian reserves, the Equestrians also managed to triumph over their foe, sending the Ponies to Astograth for a playoff against Jeru FC. The Equestrians fought for the spot in the World Cup to the final minute, but despite their efforts, the Ponies fell short 3-2 to heavily-favored Jeru FC. For the second time, the Equestrians had nearly qualified against a much higher-ranked opponent, only to come up empty-hooved.

Continuing on to the New Montreal States for the Cup of Harmony, the Equestrians hoped to prove themselves with a strong outing. It was not to be. After being upset by Cuboneland in their first match, the Ponies drew against both Jeruselem and Mesoland. The two draws mathematically eliminated the Equestrian States from the next round, making the team's victory over Farfadillis largely pointless. Once again, the Ponies had followed up a playoff appearance with a pitiful Cup of Harmony run.

Now in their sixth World Cup qualifiers, the Equestrians have finally broken into the top 50, and will again seek to qualify for the Cup. There is little doubt that the team has the potential to go far, but so far the Ponies have seen nothing but disappointments in their quest to make the World Cup. Will this be the year that the Equestrian States will reach the multiverse's highest stage? Or will the Equestrians crash and burn once more?

ESSENTIAL BACKGROUND:
Ossidiacqua is a nation coming blinking into the light of the international community. In what seems like mere years ago for most nations, as Oasirica, they sent a team to the Baptism of Fire. Meanwhile, at home, with a terrible disease name la Plaga ravaging the country, the academics of the nation prepared to put up a time wall around the central hospital that would allow medics and scientists on the inside to spend months developing a cure or vaccine for la Plaga, whilst only days passed outside the time wall, allowing the maximum population to be saved. However, it went wrong, and the time wall surrounded the entire nation, cutting off the baptism of fire squad. Months passed outside the wall, whilst inside it, la Plaga decimated the native population, leaving Djocorangan refugees in the nation untouched, ensuring they became the primary caregivers and nation re-builders. This also means that today, 99.9% of all Acquans are black in skin tone.

The time wall eventually dissipated after 270 years, labelled 'The Pause Time' by those inside the wall, revealing the nation of Ossidiacqua to the world for the first time. It was a much changed place, the weather, land, and cities had all changed, and the genetic heritage of the population had shifted from 99% Oasirican and 1% Other, to 97% Djocorangan and 3% Old Oasirican and the paragraphs below the roster go some way to explaining some of what has happened as a consequence. You are also encouraged to read the series of RPs written during Oasirica's BoF, as they will provide a lot of back story that informs this complicated nation:

The Acquan game has been cut off from the rest of the multiverse for 270 years, and as such has developed a unique flavour and style of its own. Short passes, keeping possession, and running are the key to the majority of play, with Acquan teams keen to instil a sense of duty in their players that leads to any of them being able to play or deputise in any other position during the course of a match. The players are very capable with the ball, and have developed tricks and flicks enough to bamboozle any opponent, way ahead of their time as far as the rest of the multiverse is looking at it. However, they have much to learn about the way the rest of the footballing community plays their game, and with the Acquan game developing a far higher tolerance for rough and tumble, even the silkiest of attacking forwards (and in this squad there are four outstanding interchangeable strikers) can find themselves sent off for an illegal tackle that would have been perfectly legal in the Acquan leagues. Therefore, it would be of great help to me if you could RP my team as technically gifted, but tactically naive, and as far as international standards go, incredibly violent. Thank you.

Home Stadium: An archaic stone construction in the centre of Sant'Elia, Il Colosseo. Lit by oil lamps and featuring vast walls of stained glass, it seats 103,450 and is a treasured landmark, being one of the first building built by Acquans following the eradication of la Plaga, as the nation began to reinvent itself during the Pause Time.

Supporters: True to form for a nation whose people are generally scared witless of technology, the Acquans traditionally don't travel in huge numbers. However, that is all to change, and nations preparing themselves to face La Renaissance on the football pitch must now also prepare themselves for the arrival of a fleet of poorly maintained airships that contain scores of rabid Acquan supporters. Airships not being the fastest method of transport however, they may sometimes arrive a bit late. Like, weeks...

Assassins: After he resigned as the Magisterium's mole in the footballing administration to focus on just coaching, Yoann Vega was trailed by a score of assassins during WC62 Qualifying on the orders of His Excellency Grand High Cardinal Giocomo Re. Several botched attempts and many dead assassins later, the manager of the national team Alessio Cardinale was tragically killed by an errant crossbow bolt that was intended for Vega, causing a minor scandal in New Montreal States in the process. Now manager of the team, Yoann Vega is likely to continue being a target of the Magisterium and the wrath of Giocomo Re.

Velasquez: There must always be a Velasquez captaining the national side. It's best not to ask why, there just does. Having fathered a son aged just twenty, the current captain, Ricardo Velasquez, still has a cycle or two left in him before he can hand over the reigns to his son Emmanuel.

FURTHER BACKGROUND:
The land of Oasirica was a large and beautiful one. After suffering the ravages of an unpredictable climate and loss of knowledge during the Pause Time, it has been transformed by the Djocorangan survivors of la Plaga into the Former Oasirican Republic of Ossidiacqua. Consisting of one main island and a handful of surrounding smaller ones, it can be found towards the north-west of the Vatmark region of Rushmore. The capital city of Sant'Elia is by far the biggest conurbation, and it whilst it used to shine with its golden spires and silver domes, it is now a shambolic and chaotic mix of alleyways and squares and piazzas, though the Acquans are making every effort to restore the city to its former glory, even getting the steam powered monorail back up and running, and employing a dirigible courier service.

Clean running water used to flow across the land and around the cities in an extensive network of aqueducts, channels, and canals. The continued eruption of volcanoes in the large Patriarchate of Vul in the east of the country during the Pause Time has affected this however, located over extensive mineral deposits as they were. These deposits included a huge amount of obsidian, obsidian that was distributed through the land in huge quantities, tainting the water, and giving the nation its new name. The water the flows is now nearly jet black in colour, and requires extensive treatment before it can be used as drinking water, leading the Acquans to rely on condensers that extract moisture from the dry air and from boiled off water vats often situated near rivers. These condensers often break, and are fixed by tech-priests who use mainly copycat work and guesses accompanied by some rather frenzied prayer rather than any informed ability to fix and maintain the machines, the knowledge for which died with the rapid spread of la Plaga. The weather is taking longer to recover from the time wall than expected, and the land whilst not particularly hot, is still exceptionally dry. The Oasiricans were a highly educated and cultured race, and the fall and loss of knowledge is embarrassing to the Acquans.

The patriarchate governmental system has moved from the old religion to one offering praise to a mechanical deity of no name, only various titles, with tech-priests and those in the Magisterium holding a high amount of respect. Since the dubious death of the former president, it is the maniacal Grand High Cardinal Giocomo Re who is in charge of the country, supposedly on an interim basis.

Football in Ossidiacqua is the national sport, and support is fanatical, with excitement only increasing in intensity thanks to the recent successful hosting of the Baptism of Fire alongside Iturributa. The Campiocinato continued during the Pause Time as a way to keep spirits up and has been running for 314 seasons as the football league structure in the country, with three divisions, A-Liga, B-Liga, and C-Liga. The league has dominated by the three big Sant'Elia clubs; CA Conquistadores (68 Campiocinatos), Condensadores CD (62), Caballeros CF (60), as well as by Qolo-Qolo (48). Internazionale (23), Atletico Sant'Elia (17), Unión Gimignano CF (17), AS Débardeurs Nationale (11), Magisterio AC (9), Académica di Terrabianco (4), RCD San Marco (1), Clube Cobreloa (1), and FC Sommieres Hibernia (1) are the other clubs to have sealed a title so far. Most big clubs are represented in the selection of players to go to the Cup of Harmony, as they were for the BoF and qualifying campaign, with captain Ricardo Velasquez, descendant of the legendary captain Stefano Velasquez, looking to unite the usually very partisan fans of the Sant'Elia clubs so that they may get behind and support the team.

Kinitaria National Football Team
For the 63rd World Cup Qualification

After three close calls, the patience of the Kinitar Football Federation is waning. They want qualification for this cycle's World Cup as a minimum aim, and the pressure is mounting on the team and staff before a ball has been kicked.

Manager: Kristijan Evinov (age 60)
After a dramatic but ultimately unsuccessful World Cup campaign and a catastrophic AOCAF, Evinov has come in for criticism from some Kinitar fans. Most are willing to give him time, and so is the Federation, but football is a notoriously fickle business, and if Kinitaria make a shaky start to the qualification campaign, Evinov is going to have some work to do to win over wavering portions of his home support.
Tactically, he favours an attacking 4-4-2 formation, which could become a 4-2-4 if necessary, the two wide midfielders pushing up to support the attack. If desperately clinging onto a lead, the plan seems to be one of all out defence, with as much time-wasting and hoofs into the stands as it is possible to cram into the end-game.

Players
Evinov's ageing squad has been given a minor revamp, with some older or less effective players being cleared out to make way for some new talent. (Players numbered 1-11 are considered as the default starting XI.)

1. Costin Petran - GK - age 33 - 1. Maja - 91 caps - 0 goals
Petran is by far the overwhelming choice for the goalkeeping position, having held the #1 jersey almost permanently since the team played its first match. A superb shot-stopper, he is likely to consider each goal conceded as a personal insult. He played a key role in many of Kinitaria's victories in the previous qualifiers, and it is unlikely that he will be ousted from his position.

2. Karl Sala - LB - age 28 - Mi'ato - 74 caps - 1 goal
Sala has been an established member of the team right from their first game. An old-fashioned sort of left-back, he aims to make life hard for oncoming attackers, and will always stand his ground. He has been known to put in some harsh tackles, and this is shown by his disciplinary record, since he's been sent off seven times in 74 appearances.

3. Doran Lupei - CB - age 30 - Litora United - 80 caps - 1 goal (Captain)
The loyal, talented defender is great at marking, sticking closely to his man and breaking up attacks through the middle. He's proven himself to be the anchor of a Kinitar back line which has often been criticised for being fragile, and his performance will likely be crucial if Kinitaria are to qualify for the World Cup. He's earned the captain's armband for both club and country through his loyalty, sticking with Litora United at a time when the club was going into meltdown.

4. Sebastien Sykora - CB - age 29 - AFC Damaciu - 68 caps - 1 goal
Maybe not the most technically gifted of defenders, Sykora has nevertheless established himself as a regular in the national side. He's no stranger to the occasional error, having cost Kinitaria crucial goals on at least two occasions during qualifying, and was part of the Damaciu side which slipped down the league in the latter half of last season. Despite this, he is versatile and can drift into new positions as needed, and he has also been known to notch a few goals himself, mainly headed efforts from corners.

5. Anton Spirlea - RB - age 27 - Mi'ato City - 77 caps - 0 goals
An accomplished team player and capable of performing under pressure, Spirlea is known for his excellent distribution of the ball, able to pick out a team-mate and start a counter attack with ease. He never panics when pressed and prefers to play his way out of trouble rather than hoofing the ball upfield. It's very rare to see him make a mistake and if he does have a flaw, it would be that he tends to let his complacency get the better of him. Expect to see him perform during qualification.

6. Sergiu Vacarestič - LW - age 26 - Avnani Athletic - 74 caps - 15 goals
Vacarestič is now an established member of the Kinitar squad, one of the first names on the teamsheet. He is an attacking-minded winger who slots perfectly into Kinitaria's formation, and he's just as likely to cut inside and have a go at goal as well as sending in a cross from the left - preferring to cross early and attempt to beat the offside trap.

7. Paulo Naoumov - DM - age 31 - AFC Farnworth (LCP) - 65 caps - 9 goals
Having been a divisive figure for many Kinitar fans, he's made a lot of progress towards winning them back with some fine performances for the national side. The versatile midfielder prefers pace rather than distribution, his speed allowing him to beat opposing defenders or get on the end of a cross with ease. In his preferred DM role, the determined Naoumov refuses to back down from a challenge and can often be seen making life worse for oncoming attackers.

8. Kristijan Preda - CM - age 29 - Jan Mayen Islanders (PIS) - 67 caps - 10 goals
Preda is an accomplished free-kick taker and can also head a ball well. After some time in the wilderness, he impressed Evinov in training and has won himself a spot in the first team, and rewarded the manager's faith in him with some fine performances. He might not be able to run a game himself, but his hard work and determination can make all the difference.

9. Lupan Mihalcič - SS - age 31 - Mi'ato City - 80 caps - 49 goals
One half of the greatest strike partnership in Kinitar football, Mihalcič has proven his quality over and over again. His best position is just behind the main striker - typically Sabčot - from which he can both score and create goals. He can time his runs perfectly to cut through the opposing defence, and prefers to hit a first-time shot rather than using a few valuable seconds to bring the ball under control. Certain to be hungry for more goals during the upcoming tournament.

10. Luka Sabčot - CF - age 30 - Mi'ato City -85 caps - 69 goals (Vice-captain)
The man himself. The talisman, the hero, the legend of Kinitar football. Sabčot scores goals for fun, is an outstanding finisher and excellent in one-on-one situations. He's also a bit of a playboy and a joker, and likes to show off in an attempt to impress his many fans. In fact, some might say he's a bit too cocky. But then, with a record like his - which goes for both club and country - then he can afford to be. There's nothing he enjoys more - in footballing terms - than embarrassing a goalkeeper to set himself up for a tap-in from close range.

11. Duska Avramov - RM - age 29 - FC Serenberg - 0 caps - 0 goals
Avramov is untested at national level but is expected to perform well. He is an offensively-minded player, great with crossing, even scores a few, but he's not the most reliable if called upon to defend. He fits nicely into Evinov's system and will be relishing the chance to prove himself in the World Cup qualifiers.

12. Jaren Kozak - GK - age 29 - Mi'ato - 0 caps - 0 goals
Kozak is a decent keeper, he's yet to reach his peak, and he's helped his club Mi'ato to three straight top-two finishes. However, he can't get a look-in for the national team thanks to Evinov's staunch refusal to rotate his goalkeeper. He'll grab his chance if he can get it, but there's a good chance that it won't come this cycle.

13. David Topol - CB - age 22 - Mi'ato - 0 caps - 0 goals
Following an impressive breakthrough in the Premier Division, Topol has earned his place in the national team. He's not the tallest of players, but he makes up for it in determination and technical ability. He's remarkably calm under pressure, but don't expect him to be winning many headers. Definitely one for the future.

14. Milan Beskid - CF - age 25 - Universita Tirinthea - 18 caps - 8 goals
The talented young striker can finish like no other and functions best with a strike partner to spur him on to greater heights. He's not one for spectacular goals, instead, he's a consistent threat to opposition defences if he gets so much as a sight of goal within the penalty area. A reliable backup to Kinitaria's front two, and if they desperately need goals, might be thrown on to make up a 4-3-3.

15. Samuel Costica - CM - age 23 - Inovita - 12 caps - 0 goals
He's made a strong impact on the national team since being brought through from the youths in the 62 qualifiers. Not quite a first team player just yet, but if he does come on, expect him to try to use his pace to beat his marker before spreading the ball out wide to launch an attack. Distribution is definitely one of his strong points.

16. Polin Blanarič - RB - age 23 - Mi'ato - 0 caps - 0 goals
Blanarič was a bit of a surprise inclusion in the squad, but he's well-known to boss Evinov after they spent some time together at Taimanesta. The tricky winger burst into the national consciousness following a run of form - and quite a few goals - in Mi'ato City's title-winning season. Now, after being drafted into the national side, he will be looking for opportunities to make his mark at a higher level. Most observers agree that Halil has a successful career ahead of them, but it remains to be seen if he can live up to the hype.

18. Ciprian Marin - CB - age 23 - Universita Tirinthea - 28 caps - 0 goals
Another former youth team player who has significantly impressed fans and manager alike since being given a chance in the 62 qualifiers. He stands up to onrushing attackers and uses his strength to win the ball. He has a tendency to dive into rash challenges and still has a lot to learn before becoming an established squad player.

19. Cyril Novak - LB - age 30 - Mowling City Tigercats (NSI) - 30 caps - 0 goals
Novak returned from a horror injury to become a solid and capable member of the Kinitar squad. The bruising left-back plays hard but fair with no quarter given to opponents, a great sense of timing allowing him to stop attacks dead with a perfectly executed tackle. He's scored a few goals from headers at club level, but has yet to trouble international goalkeepers.

20. Leon Cantacuzino - LM - age 29 - Litora United - 35 caps - 8 goals
Litora are lucky that they managed to keep Cantacuzino, because he is an effective all-round player, able to score and create goals in equal measure. When he plays, he'll be the team's corner taker, since he can swing in a good ball from either the left or the right. He prefers to stay wide, use the flanks and cross from the byline, and he can do this very effectively to slice open an opposing defence. Kinitaria's super-sub, in a way. He can change the direction of a game almost single-handedly.

21. Vadim Reneiči - CM - age 23 - Mi'ato - 5 caps - 0 goals
The youngest player to be named in this squad, and well known to Evinov from his time at Tirinthea before his big-money move to Mi'ato, Reneiči was part of Yurovič's famous youth team which held Polar Islandstates to a 0-0 draw away in the last qualifiers. Since then, he's shown incredible improvement and was snapped up by the cup holders in the last transfer window.

22. Dalča Nurmanov - FW - age 27 - Fryi Frêndê (FFD) - 5 caps - 1 goal
After being frozen out of the squad for some time, a range of impressive games in the Premier Division brought him back to the squad and secured a big-money move to Farfadillis. If he can maintain his superb run of form, he'll definitely be a contender for a first-team place in the upcoming qualifiers.

There's no denying that Azinovič is a capable keeper, but... what does a third-choice keeper actually do? I think they're just there to take up space. Moving swiftly on...

A purpose-built modern stadium in the centre of Kinitaria's capital, Mi'ato. The Central Stadium hosts all of Kinitaria's home matches. Visiting teams should note that a maximum of 6,000 tickets are made available to away supporters, with seats located in a segregated area in the top of the upper bowl. This is a prime location to throw things at the home fans, however, it's also a prime location to have things thrown back.

Kinitar fans are known for their passion. They're also known for burning down a significant portion of the Tricorn Arena in Wight during the Cup of Harmony, although the FFK has naturally disavowed all responsibility, and supporters' groups maintain that the shoddy construction of the host stadium was to blame. Either way, lighting flares is a part of fan culture in Kinitaria, and there's always the possibility that a Kinitaria goal will turn the air thick with smoke. During the match, the team are typically roared on by 70,000 home fans screaming themselves hoarse non-stop throughout the game, which creates an intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams - although the fact that the aforementioned flares, among other things, are sometimes thrown at visiting players or fans might also contribute to this. The fights which characterise some of the most fierce club matches, such as the cross-capital derby between hated rivals Mi'ato City and Mi'ato, have yet to make their way to international level, although some say that this is merely because they haven't found the right spark yet. The FFK has been somewhat reluctant to take action against such matters, because "it's all part of the game, isn't it?"

Cultural Quirk: Old Guardians have an odd way of giving names, they are given a first name when they are born, and then given a characteristic at the age of seven to complete there name, eg. Steven the Great.

Manager: Ken Rickwright
Bio: Recently retired from international football, Ken is from Apox, a land of peoples who once ruled over the creatures of Old Guard. After a reasonably good showing in the Baptism of Fire, where the team made their way to the Round of 16, they now head into the World Cup ranked a lowly 274th, although, remarkably, this is one rank more than Apox after their Baptism of Fire.
Ken recently stated that his aim was to not finish last in the group, and he intends to stick to that. As a result, he's had to look all around the backwater's of Old Guard to find new talent to boost the team performance slightly.
