Welcome back to Drawkland for edition 43 of the International Basketball Championships!

This is the everything thread, where rosters, RPs, and results will be posted.

All OOC discussion should go to the IBC Discussion Thread (linked above).

FORMAT

48 teams will compete for the IBC title.
They are divided into 8 groups of 6 teams.
Each group will play a double round-robin schedule.
The best 3 teams in each group after 10 games go to the playoffs.
1st place teams get a bye to Round of 16. 2nd and 3rd placers go to Round of 24.
Group stage rematches in the playoffs will only be avoided for the Rounds of 24 and 16.
Round of 24 is a single game, Round of 16 onward to Championship are Best 2 of 3 series.
Tiebreakers/Seeding: Group Placement, Wins, H2H Wins, Point Differential, H2H Point Differential, "Coin Toss"

DRAWKLAND

Drawkland is one of the oldest continually-inhabited nations on the planet Sonnel. Encompassing an entire continent, the nation was founded as a union thousands of years ago when five regional leaders found a diplomatic end to a war between their territories. These leaders become immortal a few decades later, and they dubbed themselves Drawkionels as they refounded their union as a single sovereign state.

The Drawkionels thankfully had the best interests of their people in mind, and this immortal oligarchy developed this fledgling nation into one of the planet's foremost powers. As technology improved to make long-range travel possible, Drawkians were responsible for a great deal of exploration. Drawkland's large continent full of resources could support a large population, and with the priorities of the Drawkionels firmly aligned, the nation became a true powerhouse as Sonnel's civilizations advanced.

With its varying biomes and climates, strong regional identity among its citizens, and wide range of arcane and technological wonders throughout, Drawkland has a lot to offer for visitors. Drawkians take pride in their home, and go out of their way to show hospitality to visitors. What better way to show Drawkland's greatness? Sports tournaments have seemed to become the primary vehicle for this behavior, which is helpful since a large portion of Drawkland's modern population follows or competes in some level of sport.

TRAVEL

Sonnel is a separate world from the one that most NationStates nations inhabit, and thus non-Sonnelian nations can only reach our great world by a couple specific methods. The two main options are by chartered space travel (offered by a couple Drawkian companies), or standard airline flights through the dimensional portal entry in Iarokannet Bay. You can also ignore this if you find it immersion-breaking.

Space flight is the more expensive option, but it's more about the experience than the cost. The organizations responsible for the national teams can charter space flights at Drawkland's expense for their national teams and essential team staff. Additional personnel or fans must pay out of pocket or through funding from your department that handles national team costs. The advantage of these charter spaceflights is that they can land anywhere. Major airports, stadium parking lots, stadium fields, even a big empty stretch of grass somewhere, our ships will be able to land there and pick up your squad. Travel will take several days, but in the meantime your travelers can enjoy top-notch amenities and space tourism during the journey.

If that seems a little far-fetched for your people, then simple airline flights are also an option. Several airports in the standard NationStates Sports world feature large interdimensional portals which link to a large hub in Iarokannet Bay, Drawkland. The main portals are located in Stratosphere City (The Isles of Avon, Rushmore), and Tundra Falls (Newmanistan, Esportiva). There are implied smaller portals in nations like Ranoria, South Newlandia, and Dhemixia. Receiving clearance is easy for major carriers. Your plane would just have to fly to the necessary airport location, dock for a short while, then take a flight through the portal itself. The flight time varies from 1-2 hours depending on dimensional weather conditions (we promise that one 22 year incident won't happen again)! Any plane that can fly at high altitudes normally can take flights through a dimensional portal without additional equipment. Once you touch down in Iarokannet Bay, you can fly anywhere on Sonnel.

Once you're in Drawkland, pretty much any method of transportation is available. Teams are encouraged to use charter flights to get between cities. Fans have a multitude of options for travel, including rental car, bus, train, or airline flights. The cities hosting games are all well-connected, so getting to and from them should be no problem.

VENUES

Yo(care) Arena
City: Intersak / Capacity: 31,250 / Tenant: Intersak Sea Drawks [DBO]
Intersak is the second-largest city around the large Lake Yokare nestled deep in Ellzidan's territory of Drawkland's southeast. The city of Yokare is considered the seat of power in the greater metro area of the lakeshore, but Intersak is home to a couple professional franchises in this small market. The Sea Drawks have never really been a powerhouse in the DBO, but once they landed Basil Thorne in the draft, they've improved tremendously. The Basil Thorne Effect (patent pending) is definitely the only reason this small arena (by Drawkian standards) got the nod for this tournament.
Yo(care) Arena is named for a regional insurance company. The stadium itself is nothing special, with a rather rugged industrial metal look on the outside and standard professional amenities on the inside. Once again, the main reason this venue is included is because the Intersak/Yokare area has gotten a huge boost in basketball interest since Thorne arrived in town.

The Shire Center
City: Shire-Port / Capacity: 32,600 / Tenant: Shire-Port Privateers [DBO]
Shire-Port is city on Drawkland's east coast, surrounding a pretty cove with relatively smooth terrain compared to the rugged jungle everywhere else in the southeastern territory. Shire-Port itself was developed into quite a trade hub, servicing voyages across the Oreme Ocean and throughout the Revoda Sea. It remains the largest city in Ellzidan's lands and one of Drawkland's richest areas. The area was also known for being an occasional safe haven for pirates, so all of Shire-Port's professional franchise sport some piratical nickname. That's not confusing at all!
While the Shire Center is also on the smaller side among DBO venues, that's not necessarily a bad thing. The Shire Center is one of Drawkland's oldest venues built specifically for basketball. As other cities entered a sort of "arms race" building bigger and better arenas for their basketball franchises, the owners of the Shire Center at the time felt no inclination to join in. For a while this was seen as a detraction against the venue, but eventually the Center was refurbished and outfitted with modern amenities while still retaining its historic core. Eventually it reached a more historic status, and is now revered as one of the few "original" DBO venues still in use today.

Sunrise Gardens
City: Ducentu / Capacity: 36,220 / Tenant: Ducentu Sailors [DBO]
The last of the three southeastern cities selected to host games this IBC, Ducentu sits between two rivers. These rivers empty into a large inland sea, mouths a couple miles apart, with downtown Ducentu sandwiched inside. This city serves a major internal trading hub, as one of the major mountain passes to Drawkland's interior lies inland directly west of Ducentu. This turned Ducentu into a sort of crossroads and the largest city in its area of the country. Though their Sailors have been mediocre for most of their existence in the DBO, it's still a historic franchise with a reasonable fanbase.
More semantic fans may actually describe this venue as "Sunrise Gardens III," as this is technically the third venue to hold this moniker in Ducentu. The Sailors have played in a lot of venues throughout the Ducentu area, including a couple stints at Two River Court of Ducentu State University. The first Sunrise Gardens was named after the conservatory/park where it was built, sitting on the coastline of downtown Ducentu. The view of the inland sea is a great place to watch the sun rise, hence the name. The first Sunrise Gardens arena burned down in a huge fire that ate most of downtown. The second Sunrise Gardens was part of a large-scale redevelopment of the area, but administrative and planning mistakes required the redevelopment to be, well, redeveloped a couple decades later. That's how we ended with Sunrise Gardens III, a modern and well-located structure back on the coastline surrounded by a city park.

QXC South Arena
City: Kayo / Capacity: 37,672 / Tenant: Kayo Painters [DBO]
The city of Kayo is one Drawkland's oldest and most historic cities. They also co-hosted the Olympics relatively recently (you can read more about both here. It lies about an hour's drive inland on a peninsula along Drawkland's east coast. The metro area has continued to sprawl and expand throughout the centuries, but city planning has been continually overseen by Kanyo, one of Drawkland's immortal Drawkionels. She's the main reason this territorial capital has developed into a wealthy powerhouse.
This venue is part of the Queen's Exposition Center (commonly abbreviated to QXC). This complex offers a great deal of space for conventions and other large events, but its most frequent tenants are the Kayo 7s (7ball) and Kayo Painters (basketball). Two similar indoor arenas sit at opposite ends of the expo center. As you might've guessed, the more southerly arena at QXC, called QXC South Arena, is the home of Painter basketball. The actually stadium construction of the arena is a little lackluster, but the interior concourses and exterior walls are covered in dozens of murals. These paintings are mostly original works by artists both local and international, including a few pieces by the Queen Kanyo herself.

Bunsen, Inc. Arena
City: Corinth City / Capacity: 44,500 / Tenant: Corinth City Burners [DBO]
A couple hours inland from the west coast, Corinth City has been a haven for academics, boasting more university students per capita than any of Drawkland's 50 most populous cities. It's known for other things of course, but 'having a lot of colleges' is the first stereotype one's mind goes to when thinking about Corinth. By some happenstance, it also has one of the largest basketball fanbases outside of Drawkland's northern territory (which is known for having a lot of sports fans in general). Two major basketball powerhouses call Corinth City home, the Burners of the DBO and Corinth City University's basketball program.
Bunsen, Inc. Arena (named after a local research conglomerate) is one of Drawkland's more iconic basketball venues, hence why it even hosted games back in IBC 21. The arena sits in a swanky area of uptown Corinth City, with a glut of transportation and hospitality options nearby to make things convenient for fans and visitors. With a shiny metal exterior and a modern design sitting atop a small hill, it's instantly recognizable.

Great Tricorner Arena
City: Bellator / Capacity: 46,700 / Tenant: Bellator Redmanes [DBO]
Though Bellator is another city which can trace its history to before Drawkland was founded, it didn't really turn into a metropolis until after the nation was truly united. In those days, the western grasslands were filled with nomadic groups, with few settlements scattered between which mostly acted as seasonal trading posts. Bellator was one of the few places inhabited year-round, standing on the shores of Lake Torral. As Drawkland grew and the nomadic lifestyle wasn't required for survival, Bellator was the main western city to benefit from people settling down. Now it's the capital and largest city in its territory.
Great Tricorner Arena is another easily-recognizable venue in the DBO. Bellator has an interesting architectural quirk: inspired by the pyramid-shaped tents used by the nomads in days of yore, many buildings feature a similar pointy roof structure. This arena took that idea up to eleven, shaping the entire building like a humongous "tricorner tent" and earning its moniker. Despite its gimmicky exterior, the interior of GTA has always been maintained well with modern amenities and a very echoey sound inside.

sNAX Arena
City: Raikennax / Capacity: 48,480 / Tenant: Raikennax Lions [DBO]
The biggest city closest to the center of Drawkland, Raikennax has been a major crossroads for most of its existence. It was a major holding point in the war that led to Drawkland's unification, and its convenient locale made it explode in size once the nation began developing. Similar to Bellator, the decline of nomadic life led to a huge increase in population until it became one of Drawkland's largest. Despite being a city in the western territory, it had a great deal of cultural influence from the north, and thus a big sporting culture emerged in the city as professional sports became commonplace.
sNAX Arena (capitalization intentional) is nestled in the downtown cluster of Raikennax, which is surprisingly the only major venue in the area (the baseball and football stadiums are more towards the eastern suburbs, and University of Raikennax sits out on the west end). The name comes from a chip/snack brand which was locally founded and slowly developed into a national household name. Of course sNAX products are featured heavily within the stadium concessions, but thankfully the arena itself is striking and fashionable. Many people attending Lions (formerly Lionesses) home games give favorable reports for the experience.

Cliffside Court
City: Sadeg / Capacity: 49,000 / Tenant: Sadeg Wasps [DBO]
Birthplace of Iarocav, Drawkland's founder, Sadeg is another historic city. Mostly thanks to Iarocav's influence, the greater Sadeg area developed heavily and became the fourth-largest city in Drawkland. Nestled in a wide valley following the huge Maldhar River, Sadeg is surrounded by cliffs and forests which give it a cozy, almost enclosed feel from the ground. Drawkian culture is quite heavy in Sadeg, and many would say it's where you find the most stereotypical natives in the nation. Naturally, heavy sports fandom is part of that culture. There was a time when one could say that basketball was the biggest sport in Sadeg (thanks to their hometown DBO Wasps and Sadeg State University), but now it's more of a firm second place behind gridiron football. Still, the Wasps have quite a local fanbase.
Cliffside Court is, as you may assume, a basketball court next to a cliff. Sadeg's urban sprawl has resulted in its sporting venues being rather spread out rather than a close cluster, and Cliffside Court is the primary example of this. Located near uptown Sadeg and built at the foot of a 60-ish foot tall sheer cliff face, Cliffside has been around for many years and is reaching reverent levels of historic status. It doesn't look that impressive from the outside, but you can feel the energy when you step into the building. A classic venue, and with Sadeg's size, it's no surprise it got chosen for a quarterfinal in addition to the first rounds.

Sentinel Stadium
City: Drawk City / Capacity: 51,000 / Tenant: Drawk City Sentinels [DBO]
Drawk City is the cultural capital, former political capital, and current largest city in Drawkland. It wasn't necessarily pre-planned, but its construction was commissioned by the Drawkionels themselves shortly after Drawkland's founding. With the five leaders theoretically having equal say in the governing of this new nation, it felt unfair to have any of their home cities host the new capital. Iarocav held the title of Supreme Drawkionel, and while this doesn't translate to additional power within the council, it does designate him as the de facto single leader when such a thing is needed. Thus, this new capital city would be founded in his territory, not far from his hometown of Sadeg and located in an area easy for each Drawkionel to travel to when needed. That was centuries ago, and Drawk City has continually ballooned in size thanks to its location and influence.
Naturally Drawk City was a hotspot for sports interest as they advanced in Drawkland. One such object of this interest is the hometown basketball team, the Drawk City Sentinels. The Sentinels are one of the most storied franchises in the DBO, with many dynasties in their long history. Their home venue has a legacy almost equal to its primary tenant. Formerly known as Sentinel Indoor Stadium, the old arena got a very much-needed upgrade, with most of interior completely rebuilt. Besides the exterior and foundation, almost everything was torn out and redone. The new-look and new-name Sentinel Stadium is back to being a top-five venue in the league, while still retaining a familiar feel inside compared to its original state.

Corps Central Court
City: Drawk City / Capacity: 55,000 / Tenant: Drawk Corps [DBO]
Hundreds of companies and organizations call Drawk City home, and perhaps the most notable of these is the Drawk Corps. This is not the same entity as your Net/Grid/Base Corps. The "corps" moniker is something rather unique to Drawkland. Corps are organizations which operate somewhere between a fraternal order and a corporation. Many are focused on particular industries, hobby interests, or geographic regions. Drawk Corps is by far the largest, with nationwide membership and dozens of smaller companies, universities, franchises, etc. under their umbrella. Their headquarters and flagship university are located in the suburbs of Drawk City, with a very sleek stainless metal/glass aesthetic throughout. It's become a bit of a tourist attraction in itself.
The seemingly infinite coffers of the Drawk Corps allowed them to establish sports franchises. While they aren't the only Corps to have done this, Drawk Corps is the only one to have their sports franchises play and stay at the highest professional level. Drawk Corps basketball plays their home games at Corps Central Court, which is part of the Corps Central Complex. This Complex is part of the wider Drawk Corps HQ, and contains four stadiums (one for each of Drawkland's major team sports) in a symmetrical cross formation. In the center between these arenas is a skyscraper with shopping and entertainment facilities at ground level for Corps members and visitors both. Like most Corps facilities, the sleek futuristic exterior, top notch amenities, and perfect environment for fans are hallmarks of Corps Central Court.

The Ring
City: Metropolon / Capacity: 50,000 / Tenant: Metropolon Towers [DBO]
One might notice that Drawk City was referred to as the 'former' political capital of Drawkland. Much more recently in the nation's history, Iarocav and a couple of the other Drawkionels decided that a new capital might be necessary as Drawk City was getting a little too large, and the old government buildings a little too antiquated to continue practical use. The solution was another massive predesigned city. This new capital took literal generations to realize. Iarocav envisioned a huge and perfectly symmetrical city on an artificial island in a lake a couple hours away from Drawk City. After decades of planning and construction, Metropolon was finally completed. This massive futurist city features the Pinnapex, the tallest building on Sonnel, at its center. The rest of the city's buildings reduce in size evenly, making the city's skyline resemble exponential curves from both sides.
Despite all of Metropolon's population moving in from elsewhere rather inorganically, Iarocav figured that eventually there'd be demand for sports franchises. The city was certainly big enough to justify this, once it reached capacity. Near the center of town, venues for each of Drawkland's major sports were built. These venues are very similar from the outside: rounded and roofed with a bright and digital aesthetic to match the futurist feel of the city. The Ring is no exception. It's named for its circular shape and the raised concourse surrounding its exterior which resembles the planetary rings surrounding Sonnel. Home to the Metropolon Towers (named for the tall buildings surrounding the arena and the tall players on the court), it's certainly a sight to behold, especially for visitors who come from less technologically advanced nations.

Millennium Arena
City: Centivar County / Capacity: 100,000 / Part of Grand Gate Park at the Centivar County Complex
It all started with World Cup 79. Drawkland needed a grand venue to host the World Cup final, and another enormous building project to add to Iarocav's resume. The result was the Centivar County Complex. Before this project began, Centivar County was a rural area almost exactly halfway between Drawk City and Metropolon, almost exclusively home to the manors and grounds of Drawkland's ultra wealthy elite (including Iarocav and his family). A slice of Centivar was obtained for this project, which was originally envisioned as just the stadium and necessary infrastructure and quickly expanded to more. First it was just the football stadium, then the indoor arena was added. A plaza and park was fleshed out to surround the stadia (called Grand Gate Park), and soon plans were finalized for a shopping/hospitality/tourist trap center across the highway and railway. The expansion didn't stop there, as a new amusement park is close to being opened on the other end of the Complex.
Seven Stars Stadium was the flagship structure for Grand Gate Park, a massive 250,000 seat venue designed for large pitch sports like baseball, the footballs, and others. This was built on top of a hill, but the hill was hollowed out and a secondary venue build directly underneath. This indoor venue was meant for basketball, hockey, handball, 7ball, and any other events with a "smaller" surface. It was dubbed Millennium Arena as a nod to the couple thousand years that Drawkland has endured. Both venues were built with a blend of arcane and technological advancements. Amenities are top notch, sound in the arena feels amplified without being damaging to the ears, and the capacities remain perfectly identical even with slight changes in structure to accommodate different sport surfaces. These were built to be the ultimate cathedrals of sporting excellence, and Millennium Arena has already fit the bill with its multiple NSCAA Final Four hosting jobs.

Basketball is one of Drawkland's "Big Four" sports, with huge cheering crowds and near-constantly playing pep bands the norm. If you've never been to a basketball game in Drawkland, you may want to bring a pair of earplugs. Or two. You'll need them.

As you may notice soon, the Drawkian team is pretty tall, as far as height goes. This is perfectly natural for Drawkians, as the national height average is 7'5" (they're not related to humans evolutionarily besides the shape and proportions and such). They also may seem like they're "middle-aged," but most professional Drawkian athletes don't retire until around the age of 50, since Drawkians can live to 120-150 years of age.

After having their best group stage in their history in IBC 24, the Net Corps went on to get annihilated in the Round of 16 for the fifth straight time (once by Royal Kingdom of Quebec, once by Vangaziland, once Abaja, once by Ceni, and once by Banija). Finally, they decided they weren't going to take no for an answer. A decade of playoff disappointment took a heel-turn as the Corps made an unprecedented run to the championship game. Drawkland won the game in convincing fashion to Royal Kingdom of Quebec, and finally claimed the title of IBC Champions.

While they lost in the semifinals of IBC 26 to the team they defeated in the previous semifinals, Newmanistan, they still had the skill to make a deep playoff run. And that they did, by making it to the finals of IBC 27 against Vangaziland. Unfortunately, Vangaziland was the outright better squad and took the series in two straight games. The Net Corps was far from out of the mix, though. Despite the short format and taking a loss in the group stage, Drawkland stormed through the IBC 28 playoffs and defeated Vangaziland by 30 points in the final to capture their second title. Drawkland hoped to go back-to-back with IBC 29, but fell short in overtime to Banija in the semifinals.

The IBC 30 campaign featured a first for the Net Corps ... a quarterfinal loss. This kicked off a new era in Net Corps history, one of floundering in the playoffs. In IBC 31, Drawkland went 2-2 in the second group stage, and had to settle for a "13th place win" against Quebec in the consolation playoffs. IBC 32 was yet another quarterfinal loss, this one against Valanora. Finally, in IBC 33, the Corps did something they hadn't done since their first tournament in IBC 19 ... miss the playoffs entirely. With that, longtime coach Cody Morgan and his staff was shown the door, and the aging Net Corps was collectively given the boot.

Originally, DISC was going to hire a new coach and assemble a new squad from scratch. Then, some "genius" came up with a "better" idea: let the Elite Eleven have a shot! Their IBC 34 campaign went decently. They made it to the playoffs and won a game in the Round of 24 before falling in the next round to Hannasea. Still, their performance was decent enough, and DISC was satisfied. The Elite didn't want to return to a playing position, but a few of them said they'd be willing to stick around as coaches.

The "Elite Eleven as coaches" experiment somehow went better than expected. The new-look Corps didn't have a perfect return cycle, needing last-matchday miracles against Ranoria and Mytanija to advance from the first and second group stages, respectively. The Corps had finally returned to the quarterfinals, thanks in part to the second group stage "skipping" earlier playoff rounds. Once again the Corps would face Hannasea, and once again they would fall, this time by a heartbreaking last-second shot. With their hopes for a surprising playoff push dashed, they slid into 7th place in the classification playoff. All things considered, not a bad performance, but improvement, especially in the group stage, is a necessity going forward. DISC had enough of the Elite Eleven, and kicked them out of the basketball wing of the building.

However, the post-Elite coaching staff led by Vince Donaldson didn't make the steps that fans were hoping for. Sure, the Net Corps made the playoffs relatively consistently, and even won a couple games, but ultimately this is not a squad that inspired confidence in fans or fear in opponents. With four straight cycles without even sniffing a semifinal, there was no reason to keep Donaldson and his staff around.

After another near-decade of mediocrity, DISC once again cleaned house in the Net Corps coaching staff, and are tackling this with another Drawkian coach willing to tank their reputation for the sake of maybe having a miracle run into relevance. In this case, it's the eccentric Domingo Abbott of the Bellator Redmanes, known for his unorthodox approach to coaching. In his first cycle at the helm of the Corps, Abbott led the team to a shock group win in IBC 41 and even advanced in the playoffs - only to lose in extreme upset fashion to Vaishnavaria in the quarterfinals. Thankfully the Corps managed to avoid a quarterfinal exit in IBC 42 ... of course, this was by being the only 3-1 team to be eliminated in the second group stage, not reaching the quarterfinals to begin with. If Abbott can't put a more impressive run on the table at home in IBC 43, he may not be in charge much longer.

Overview

Basketball is the most popular sport in the Republic of Kronbia today. Republic of Kronbia has competitions for basketball, the league (Liga de Kronbia de Baloncesto-LKB) and the cup (Copa Kronbia), There are many young players playing basketball in a competition dedicated to universities. Competitions are also organized for students in secondary schools at every the city.

History

The sport of basketball arrived in the island in 1935, where a group of young people from the rich sons returning from Europe founded a team called El Caballeros Blancos (current Atletico San Rimo) in San Rimo, and then founded a group of young people in the capital A team called El Halcones (the current Deportivo de Halcon), the teams played friendly exhibition matches to spread the game in the cities, after their match in Costa de Palmeras, a group of sons of fishermen (as the Costa de Palmeras was a small fishermen’s city) thought of establishing their own team, and the same thing happened with the railway workers (Locomotora de Kronbia) They decided to establish their own team, in 1936 the four team captains met and decided to start a tournament under the name Copa Kronbia.
In 1938, the government established the Kronbian basketball Federation (Federacion de baloncesto de Kronbia) to organize basketball competitions and team matters.

The tournament continued with the change of the names of the teams and the details of the tournament until 1982, when it was decided to establish a professional league (Liga de Kronbia de Baloncesto-LKB) with a different system,and the cup championship (Copa Kronbia) continues also. To this day, the championship continues to entertain the basketball fans in the island and the world.

PG #3 Kamil Umar. 6'3. 21 years old. The point guard for Aksum State during their NSCAA 16 title run, Umar is a good point guard for a team with a lot of talent- a pass-first, high energy defensive player who doesn't mind the fact that he won't score a lot. He's got a very specific task- and that is to keep Telly, Uchea, and his former college teammate, Danjuma, happy. Getting all three of those guys enough quality shots is this team's biggest challenge, and he will be the floor general to get them there.

While he's certainly going to be scoring in the single digits himself, he's got a dangerous floater.

SG #12 Diango Telly. 6'4. 26 years old. Four year player at Loyola-Istria, including being a starter during NSCAA 16. Loyola's star player then, a do-it-all kind of scorer. While he turns the ball over a lot, he can score at all three levels, create his own shot, and separate himself anywhere in the halfcourt.

SF #14 Dike Uchea. 6'9. 23 years old. One & done player at the University of Moravica during NSCAA 16(went to Cass Tech HS), now plays pro ball in Banija. Incredibly talented, but also pretty raw- we'll see if he can handle lights this bright. He's elite both at the rim and in the midrange, and is a great defender- but at this stage of his career, whether his star potential or not will be realized depends on how well he can shoot the 3 ball- which, at this point of his career, is a project. But on a team full of young players with high ceilings, his is the highest of all- and he won't shy away from that pressure.

PF #23 Galabba Danjuma. 6'9. 24 years old. Two years at Aksum State, lead team to a 40-2 record, and the NSCAA 16 championship. Extremely physical player, known for moving slowly and methodically. Sometimes known as a maniac on the court- his temper is legendary, as is his talent. Guaranteed to lead the team in technical fouls.

C #12 Ezra Ogada. 7'1. 33 years old. He was born in Nyowani Kitara, but he was a refugee as a small child to Banija- hasn’t been back since. Went straight to pro ball. Plays professionally at home. Very much a back to the basket type of center. Known as elite defender. Only starter remaining from IBC 40 & 41.

- We almost always play a 1-3-1 zone defense. It works well with this team, which has lots of size, and is getting faster, especially at guard. Situationally, we will switch to man to man or a box and 1 if the other team's star player is hot, but the 1-3-1 is the base.
- This team does not have a ton of three point shooting, and they will show less 3s than most of their opponents.
- This team will run at almost any chance they get. While rebounding, especially on defense, is the team's weakest link, when they do get a rebound, they are able to push the ball, and so quickly.
- For the group stages, this team's rotation runs 12 deep, as Bartaba will do his best to get all 12 players into the game for every single group stage game. However, they will almost certainly shorten the rotation to 8-9 players come the knockout stages. In the KO stages, he will push Dike Uchea in particular to the limit, with his star SF likely to get 35+ minutes on those nights, and if the situation calls for it, for him to play every single minute potentially in the semifinal and/or final, if the Lions get that far.

Recent History
This is their eighth appearance at the IBCs after an especially turbulent period surrounding the men's national basketball team- moments that are firmly in the rearview mirror. The team reached never before seen heights in this sport, winning 4 titles in a row- an accomplishment that has never been matched in any of the Grand Slam competitions (IBCs, WCoH, WC, World Bowl, WBC). 5 finals in a row, and obviously all of those championships, meant success was the name of the game. But of course, with success comes egos, and with the growth of the financial pot comes issues on how to split it. For financial reasons, and many others, players went on strike after IBC 33- sparked when the Olympic Committee, already facing a myriad of issues, tried to force NT players to play at home. They came back at IBC 36, and are trying to get back to previously achieved heights.

When legendary head coach Isaiah Lavaga decided to leave for club basketball in Quebec rather than strike-break and lead a squad of replacement players to IBC 34, the Banijan men's basketball team could not even send a delegation to the tournament- a stunning fall. They did not resolve the issue in time for IBC 35 either, as players and the Olympic Committee seemed to be in a never-ending standoff over the national team. But finally, shortly before the last Olympiad in the Twin Cities, the players and the Olympic Committee were finally able to reach an agreement.

Nearly half a decade of striking. The senior NT was finally back in the fold. The Olympics were good- falling to Hannasea in the semifinals, and earning a bronze medal, the second ever medal the men's basketball team has ever earned at the Olympiad. And hopes were raised after the AOBCs just went like old times, with Banija cruising to their third regional title.

Oscar Laboto, the new head coach, urged caution with this team. "This ain't the same team we had back in the day." He told reporters. "The IBCs are an entirely different beast. We're back at the bottom of the totem pole, and we're gonna take some real lumps. Fans will need to be patient." Indeed, he told reporters it would be 2 or 3 cycles before the team could legitimately be considered contenders- for now, despite their history, simply reaching the knockout stages would be performing 'beyond expectations'.

And it seemed as if that prediction would be proven at least relatively true. With how top heavy this sport is, Banija has been to the knockout stages of the last two IBCs- winning one game in each(Ro24 at IBC 36, the Ro16 at IBC 37), before getting felled by their archrivals, Quebec- who just won their first ever IBC title just last cycle. But IBC 38, we seemingly broke through. Taking advantage of the double elimination format, we got down to the final 3 teams, and for the third cycle in a row, we were beaten by none other than our archrivals, and the eventual IBC champions, Quebec & Shingoyreo. While in IBC 39, we went out in the QFs to Valanora, in IBC 40 we went right back to form- once again getting felled by the dominant team of the era, Quebec. Our archrivals, eliminating us in four of the last 5 editions of this tournament. That's why everybody came back- could they finally beat that Quebecois sized hump?

Turns out, they could. But they didn't inspire much confidence. IBC 41 was a strange tournament- how could you possibly have the least inspiring IBC team in a generation, and yet, pull off maybe the greatest Banijan upset since IBC 24, in the same tournament? Strange, strange things. The entire IBC 40 squad returned for a single purpose- slay the Quebecois dragon. And boy, it looked as if they would fail. Some brutal losses to bad teams for the Lions saw them barely escape group play in Ranoria, only to run into the monster that we call Quebec- and then stun everybody in Ranoria. Naturally, they lost in the very next round to the future champions, Ko-oren.

Everything called for a reset after IBC 41. Coach retired, full roster turnover- 9 of 12 players were new at IBC 42, including 4 of the 5 team's starters. And what happened? Only a complete resurrection of Banijan basketball. A very strong run, getting third place when many thought that the second group stage was their ceiling. And then, of course- the Olympics. The singular medal this nation has been searching the longest for, we went to Kayo, battled against the best of the best, and this group of players won our first ever gold medal in men's 5v5 basketball. Here we are back at another foray into basketball! I do have a NSSCRA event to show up to as well, so we are going to be definitely very busy for these few weeks and months! There is NSSCRA, IAC, IBC, Chess, wow let no one say that Valentine Z takes a backseat and only participated in small number of sports! Anyway, my meaningless banter aside, where were we? Well, Gwen’s Angels lost pretty hard in the last cycle, getting eliminated at the Quarterfinals to Ko-oren, and then eventually placing 5th after the placement match against the folks from Quebec and Shingoryeo and then Kytler Peninsulae. 5th was – in all fairness, not bad. But you know what the Angels and myself have been going for? The championship itself! The last one was in the 40th IBC, and I believe it’s high time that we get another one! Of course, I must still adhere to the love of the sports and that we will be happy with the outcome regardless of how it might have been. I do agree. I, however, also simply believe that we should have been able to get the second championship. After all, we are currently the first- second now? Bloody hell, 2nd best.

You know the routine by now. The team and the roster will be rotated, and they grow one year older. Standard affair and matter. Oh and yes, I will be visiting and having some fun with Sir Ivo and those folks. This is, by all means, not related to the sports at all, and was just my adventures outside of the sporting events. Do I have time for that despite the NSSCRA and IBC going on? Oh, love, I have all the time in the world! You can tag along and read through the adventures that I will be having, while the Gwen’s Angels will also be doing their own thing with basketball. Other than that- well, that’s about it. Odin Nagy has brought a bit of swagger back to the Dragons, getting the team back into true title contention. Turning to a growing trend in Vanorian national teams, Nagy has decided to select not the best players but the players who are in form while also shifting the tactical philosophy from one that relied exclusively on the three point shot to a somewhat more balanced offense. With a few big players to help level the physical playing field and give some more inside options, it has allowed the Dragons over the last few editions to modify their gameplan going into every encounter and that has seen them refind an edge that had seemingly been lost from the team for a few years. Notes

After a 16 year hiatus, the Republican National Basketball Team returns to the IBC. Their captain "Queen" Thibodeau married Jacque Theriault, son of Pierre Theriault and nephew of legendary Republican National Soccer Team coach Rule Theriault in the interval. The Queen is now the mother of 7 kids, 3 sons and 4 daughters. In the past year, she got herself back into basketball shape for another shot at the IBC title that eluded her. With her prime years and a likely dynasty being lost to the chaos, the Queen now seeks to reclaim her legacy. While the Free Republics now enters all-male teams in many sports, special permission was granted by the Grand Immortal Imperator for a mixed gender basketball team. The other 2 female players on the team are the wives of Judge Mario Pisani of the 205th District Court and Assemblyman Victor Slatensek who were granted permission by their husbands to compete in the IBC.

Coach Leon Alexeyeva returns due to his close friendship with Thibodeau-Theriault with a team of young up and coming players selected in consultation with the Queen. The offense will revolve around its aging superstar when she's on the court but expect Alexeyeva to rely upon his bench to keep her minutes under control. Especially in games where the Republicans are winning by a decent margin. As is the norm in modern basketball, every Republican player is capable of hitting 3 point shots and nobody is a Shaq/Ben Simmons tier free throw shooter.

Traditionally known for its unreliable, safety problems and chronic underfunding, SERTA has recently seen an enormous influx of funding as part of the Grand Immortal Imperator's efforts to make Republican cities safe which has allowed it to sponsor the arena. And few cities needed safety more than the City of Brotherly Wrath which was formerly the murder and drug dealing capital of the Free Republics. But now the infamous open air drug market has been shut down by Federation troops and the government has been speedily executing the local gangbangers. Thus, the city is rapidly gentrifying and property values are skyrocketing in the region. Rensylvania is located in the eastern portion of the Free Republics.

The Venues
This time, Riandera will have three different venues for their home games.

1. Rianderan Arena
The first venue is the Rianderan Arena. It opened to the public in 1995 originally as a sports arena, has a capacity of 19,823, and is located in the capital, Langkamata. The Rianderan Arena changed to a multi-purpose arena in 2001. This venue will be the site of the matches against Zenic on MD1 and The Golden Harp on MD4.

2. Bintang Sports Centre
The second venue is the Bintang Sports Centre. It is located in Peletara, and has a capacity of 19,258. It opened in 2007 with a capacity of 14,972, but closed and underwent renovation between 2016 and 2017. It reopened to the public in 2018, with the current capacity. The Bintang Sports Centre will host the matches against Sangti and the Filindo Isles on MD3 and United Adaikes on MD10.

3. Intell Putralaya Dome
The third and final venue is the Intell Putralaya Dome, with around 18,487 seats. It opened to the public in 2016. Located in Putralaya, this arena used to be called the Putralaya Basketball Arena, but changed in 2024 due to naming rights. The Intell Putralaya Dome will host the match against Ko-oren on MD7.

About the team: The Warkus National Basketball Team goes by the nickname 'the Garnets'. The name comes from the garnets in the northern mountainous part of Warkus, which is the section of the country where basketball is the most popular sport. The people of this region generally have more Nordic-sounding surnames and use some (modified) loanwords from Nordic languages, such as 'ffial' for 'mountain' (from fjall) and 'ffreuer' for housewife (from housefreyja/freyja). The team, however, contains players from many different provinces in Warkus.

The team plays a moderately defensive game and relies heavily on their ability to close out and contest shots from opposing teams. They did pretty well in the last IBC and they're at the top of Pot 3, so they're expecting to make the playoffs at the very least.

Coach: Sean Thrower, 60 y/o

It's Sean's second IBC in charge. He's a 'motivator' type of coach and not really much of a tactician. He's made effectively no changes from the previous team, aside from Amy Pugh taking Max Floyd's place as starting point guard. We'll have to see whether the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach pays off or if it'll be Sean's undoing.

About the Nation:
Warkus is made up of two constituent kingdoms: East Warkus and West Warcus (yes they spell 'Warkus' differently – think of West Warcus as a place where standard Welsh orthography is used and East Warkus as a place where ‘k’ is used instead of ‘c’.) Warkus was historically a land beset by bloody war and conflict, so a strong emphasis on peace and ‘dovishness’ has been a part of the country’s national identify after both kingdoms were unified.

Over time Warkus gradually became what one could describe as a market socialist economy with widespread socialised ownership of capital in the form of a myriad of social wealth funds, traditional nationalised sectors, more autonomous state-owned enterprises, workers’ and consumers’ co-ops and so on. The nation has an incredibly strong, robust and universalised welfare state and high taxes, including some ‘regressive’ taxes like VAT, to boot.

The capital and largest city in Warkus, which is where you'll be playing your away games against us, is Nyareth Newydd (also known as ‘New Nyareth’ or affectionately by locals as ‘New Nyaky’). Nyareth Newydd is roughly located in the centre of the country and is ‘neither eastern nor western’. There’s plenty to do there: check out some huge libraries, go to the theatre, head to a jazz club – basically lots of artsy stuff. You’ll also find the National Museum of Warkus, which runs a massive permanent exhibition on the unification of the two Kingdoms. You can also book in to do a tour of Castell Siôr, which was built by the city’s founder and the first historically verifiable King of a unified Warkus in the late 1700s. It’s also the home of the Senedd Warkus, which is our nation's unicameral legislature.

Story

After a disappointing, sobering showing at the Olympics in Drawkland, the Bobcats return to the crime scene for the IBC 43. They will do so without Kaseem Roberts at the helm. While the previous selection had been instigated at the insistence of the Olympic Committee, this one is a representation of the yet-to-start ABC or Anewkansan Basketball Coalition. While the Republic Cup, the knock-out tournament that captures the attention every year, remains the key knock-out tournament of the season, some representatives of the AMBL (automobile manufacturing basketball league) saw the popularity of football’s Premier League and saw the potential of a more focused, smaller league with representatives across the country. They took their five biggest clubs and managed to butter up enough major clubs to assemble what can be seen as a star collective domestically. While some important outfits are not yet in the ABC, it is fair to say that no other local league can match them in terms of talent and number of clubs at top level. As a kickstarter for the competition, they have gathered an all-star line-up and given Carl Hubbard the duty to turn them into a team. If the Olympics are anything to go by, that won’t be as easy as the ABC hopes it to be.

Starting for the team will be Kason Blackwell, a late bloomer but the go-to guy during the Olympic tournament. He can produce both inside and outside of the paint. Point guard Lopez has a good vision but will probably split time with the more energetic, but less precise, Choi. The surprise of the Olympics was Laguardia, who proved himself a fighter in the difficult, faster international way. Many still see Stephens as the better player but he’s a passer, a director and did not always prove up for the speed. In terms of forwards, the bench has something to offer between strong rebounder Chidinma, the fast-fingered Shepherd and ultimate wildcard Hayoon. Under the basket, Fowler gets a chance to confirm positive signals of last season as the two main alternatives are not members of an ABC club. This forced Hubbard to rely on Carey as a back-up, a humble giant but far too slow to do more than occasional minutes.

International Basketball Championship 43 Roster & Information - Kamijiro

The second-most popular spectator sport in the Lightning Isles is basketball. Association football has always reigned supreme and baseball is a close third. However, this has not always translated to wins at the IBC. If anything, it's been the weakest major sport in the nation's repertoire, especially compared to the other two of the big three, where the Lightning have made some pretty deep runs before. But this team feels like they are poised to turn this around before the bleeding turns into a full-on blood flood. The association finally did away with their antiquated system where they ran a nation-wide tournament and sent the winner of said tournament to the Championship and instead decided to run a full-on tryout for the team. This, of course, led to teams that simply lacked the depth needed to compete at the highest level. Another symptom of a lack of professional leagues in Kamijiro outside of association football. But that's a story for another time.

The jerseys this time around are all-new. Sponsored by Icarus (a sports logistics company) and created by Kami (an athleisure company), these jerseys are likely the best ones the Lightning will put on since the dawn of the national team.

The last edition of the International Basketball Championships saw Aphrilia go one step further than they usually do, by reaching the Quarterfinals of the tournament. And whilst hopes of a title run dissipated as soon as it appeared, it was for many fans of The Brigadiers, a step in the right direction. As Paterno was looking for new clients for basketball uniforms, he saw numerous former clients of NNS also competing in the upcoming IBC tournament. Crastex City (Lv80+ Safety Zone)

XENIX walked around the streets of Crastex City, having just finished upgrading his gear.

The newest update for Spirits of Talonia had just arrived, adding several new areas to explore in the Forbidden South, where Crastex was located. The strongest players were usually located around here, as there is no player yet to hit above Level 100. Usually the developers would add an update for a new area depending on how the players have progressed throughout the game. Though the further they got, the slower they would also progress. That was the nature of these sort of games.

Metaronite is one of the best materials available in the game, and XENIX had some of the best gear that the Knight Class could get. There were many ways to get gear, whether by crafting them, trading, as rewards from special events, or maybe from dungeon clearing. XENIX preferred to get them by crafting and dungeon clearing, the former as he was a veteran from an even older MMORPG game, Runemix, where crafting was a big thing compared to most other contemporary MMORPGs of it's time and largely because dungeon clears still give out a lot of experience points. He usually just joins random parties for it though, as he was a solo player primarily.

Guilds are a big thing in SoT, but the politics involved in them recently has turned him away from it all.

As he was in the city square, XENIX accepted a few quests from the Questboard. Largely to grind standard Forbidden South material such as Bloodflowers and Charked Wood. The other quest was to slay a few Dreadguards, somewhat of a rare enemy but completely doable. The whole southern area of the game had a lot of fire-element enemies, so burn potions were quite literally mandatory, even if there were many other effects just as deadly or annoying to deal with.

As he was about to head out, another player approached specifically his avatar.

There was an in-game private message request, a handy feature really. Sometimes your own conversation would get drowned in the world chat, which is in a flurry today. Gale Force and Water King Unit, the two biggest guilds in the game, were holding their usual guild event of sending out warriors to fight between one-another. This usually takes place in the Colosseum, which was it's own area on a secluded island on the map. But you could teleport to there anytime. XENIX accepted he request, knowing who it's from.

sKyLar_Rie is a close friend of his. The two actually met for the first time during one of the past events that the developers hosted, where it was essentially a full blown multiple-day free for all. You could team up, and that was exactly what the two did, but despite XENIX being experienced, they weren't high levelled enough to seriously challenge then. "what you about to do" was the message that Rie sent, spinning her avatar around as she shoots out wind slashes. She had chosen to be a Mage.

"Jst fnshed upgrd gear, bout td Qs. Wbu?" XENIX asked back, he was sorting through his inventory at this time. His chatting was... Somewhat of an unfortunate habit, as back then, Runemix had a limit on how many characters you could use for a message, so people tended to develop habits to circumnavigate it. While the no-limit chat was something SoT had it good, it has caused a lot of problems in the past. Luckily the game developers were smart enough to figure out solutions to the root problem as a whole.

"can i join, i wanna prep for the upcoming megaboss with you" Rie quickly chatted up. Ah yes, the godforsaken Megaboss. One of the many type of events the developers tend to hold, where in a certain part of the world map, an altar spawns in and you could access it to defeat a 'Megaboss' depending on your levels. In recent times however, the Extreme Difficulty Mega has been seeing less and less victors, largely due to the general skill level of the game decreasing. For many, SoT was a more casual MMORPG and it didn't punish you for being behind the curve for far too long or just playing it in a relaxed manner. Seriously, Aphrilian MMORPGs are batshit insane like that. For XENIX, it's good that MMORPGs have become more casual friendly, which is why the lower levels are more friendly. But the community's skill level did take a drop for it.

And the community has been speculating that this time around, the Extreme Mega will be the hardest the community has seen in a while. But XENIX did see the rewards if you beat it, they were very good. Lots of EXP, some gear that could maybe surpass his current ones, and even access to a new and stronger material. There was a massive incentive to go for the Mega this time around. He was definitely skilled enough to do it, but these Megaboss Events require you to do it in parties. "Sre y nt, I'l jn, rwrds lk gud"

"saw the extreme mega rewards didn't you, seriously, i need a better staff" Rie quickly chatted back. XENIX just responded with an emoji. For now, they've settled on a goal. But no way in hell the two of them will be enough to deal with the Extreme Mega. The last time a duo vanquished such a difficult boss was some years ago during the Wetlands Megaboss Event, done by SoT legends DUN_TASK and VVcavoile. Rie was good yes, but knowing the nature of Extreme Megas, she wouldn't be good enough even with him. He had tutored her every step of the way despite joining around the same time, but there was only so much he could do knowing his lack of knowledge in regards to how the magic system worked in SoT. She would have to go with another strong Mage Class player to learn more thoroughly. "Aye, let's go" XENIX messaged.

And so the two went out with a goal, and a mission. What they want to do, and what they need to do to accomplish it.
