RP, Roster Information
Rosters will be entitled up to 1.5x Matchday RP Bonus. Teeams will only be given their IAC rank if they submit a roster.
Quality and effort of the RPs will be taken into account. Users who are interested in their current RP progress may give me a TG for a rough estimate of their RP bonuses anytime during/after the tournament.

You may start posting rosters/RPs in this thread now! Please do not reserve any posts/rosters, thank you.

For the newcomers to NS Sports, participating in a tournament in this forums for the first time, do have a read at the Guide to Sports Roleplaying, linked above! For more info on how to start a roster, I have linked some information in the spoiler below, explaining about RP permisions, style mods and all.

Before any tournament begins, it is common courtesy to post a roster. A roster may include: Background to your country; Information about your players; Sharing about your football playing style; How your fans interact with out fans in this nation; some of the special information others should know when roleplaying about the match between your team and their team.

In your roster post please include the ever useful RP permissions box to let your opponents know what you're okay with them doing in their post-match RPs. A common template is as follows:
RP PERMISSIONS
If my opponent roleplays first, they may:
Choose my starting lineup: Y/N
Choose my goalscorers: Y/N
Godmod scoring events: Y/N
RP injuries to my players: Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players: Y/N
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Y/N
Hand out red cards to my players: Y/N
Godmod other events: Y/N

You may also include a style modifier which reflects your national team's style of football in the roster. The modifier is a number (typically up to 3 decimal places), between -5 and +5. The most defensive of teams will use a style modifier of -5, while the most aggressive of teams will use a style modifier of +5. Teams who play a more balanced style may use a style modifier of 0. Do note that this will not affect your chances of victory/defeat, it only affects how the final scoreline may be. For instance, looking at a one-goal win, two really aggressive teams have a higher possibility of scoring 7 goals in a 4-3 victory for one; two really defensive teams are more likely to end up having a 1-0 scoreline instead.

Welcome to Poafmersia! The Ministry of Business and Trade (MBT), through the Poafmersian Tourism Board (PTB), has published various guides to Poafmersia, giving visitors from around the multiverse some information about the Poafmersian culture, heritage, and a guide to the various states and major cities in Poafmersia. The guides are often never exhaustive, and depending on the group of visitors and their purposes, PTB often customise these guides to allow them to be more informed prior to the nation of Poafmersia. In conjunction with the Ministry of Arts, Sports and Culture (MASC), the PTB has published this version of the sports guide - for fans and visiting teams coming to Poafmersia for the 18th Independent Associations Championship (IAC).

All about Poafmersia
Poafmersia is a really huge country located in The North Pacific, with a size of 1.8 million square kilometers. Home to approximately 850 million residents, the country is well known for its really idealistic policies and governance system. Many Poafmers consider the nation to be at the forefront of "pioneering government policies", ranging from her environmental policies, her system of governance, as well as building a multicultural society. Even though the majority belong to the Jaffan race, Poafmersia is home to 27 ethnicities in total, according to government estimates. The true proportion of these ethnicities, however, is not official tracked, under the "Ethnic Protection Act" which forbids collection of data related to ethnicity.

Transportation
Many visitors may find themselves unused to the transportation system in Poafmersia. The nation's emphasis on environmental protection has made public transport the main method of transport for Poafmers and visitors alike. While there are inter-city roads that are open for private vehicles, these vehicles are not allowed with many city limits, including Trimidau Island, City of Mancodas, City of Dalaris, Fiskadaha City, and Holhot, among other places. For small groups who require personalised transport, they would typically charter minibuses or electric taxis, which are readily available in big cities. Otherwise, the rail system or the public buses is the main method of travel.

Between cities, there are inter-city railways, as well as cross-state buses, that allow for travel from one side of the country to other. For smaller counties and townships, there are also shuttle train and bus services that serve these areas. Because such places may be out of the place and may not be as well connected, residents in these places may be more likely to own private vehicles. There are rules and regulations in place governing the ownership of these vehicles, as well as the type of vehicles.

For the 39 teams coming to Poafmersia, it would be possible to charter buses for the teams to travel from a city to another for matches. The alternative, however, would be to charter trains - and many major inter-city railways have express tracks for express services, that would allow for quicker travel alternatives. There are also 4 high-speed rail services that serve different parts of the country, namely the Mancodas-Fiskadaha Express (between Mancodas and Fiskadaha City); the Trimidau-Dalaris Rail (between City of Dalaris and Trimidau Island); the Holhot-Fiskadaha Line (between Fiskadaha City and Holhot, with selected stops at major cities such as Sarim, Jackinson and Paishi-jak); and the North-South Railway (starting at Madaris, stopping in the outer limits of Greater Mancodas, Fiskadaha City, before moving on to Georgetown, on the inner limits of the City of Dalaris).

Culture
Poafmersia is very welcoming to foreign visitors who are exploring the country. The people's openness to visitors was something that couldn't be taken for granted a decade ago - when Poafmersia was largely isolationist. Sports has been a major avenue where Poafmers have gained exposure to foreign nations, especially in football, which is the most popular and successful sport in Poafmersia. Other major sports include basketball, hockey (both field and ice hockey), badminton and aquatics, though the skill level of the sportsmen largely varies.

In Poafmersia, racial and gender stereotypes are frowned upon. In many sports, men and women co-exist in national leagues, and gender neutral terms are largely preferred. As such, conversations that crosses the racial and gender lines will probably get you into trouble, so visitors should be careful of that. Care for the environment is something that is extremely unique in Poafmersia. Visitors in hotel rooms would be expected to sort out their waste between recyclables and non-recyclables. At restaurants and dining places, food wastes are chargeable, and diners are reminded to request for smaller portions if necessary. The country has largely eliminated use of plastic cups, cutlery and bags. At shopping malls, people bring recyclable bags or buy paper bags; at drink stalls, people bring their own bottles and tumblers. Visitors to Poafmersia are also expected to abide by these environmentally-friendly guidelines, and there are reminder announcements played at major ports of entry.

Stadium locations in Poafmersia
Image
Poafmersia is split into 10 main states. For this competition, 20 stadiums across all 10 states will be used in various stages of the competition. The list of fixtures at every stadium can be found here.

Bikasta
Located at the north-west of the country, Bikasta is the second smallest state in the country, after Dalaris. The state is home to the second busiest port in Poafmersia, after Georgetown, located in Jottim. Jottim, however, will not host any matches in this tournament. This state will have 1 stadium, namely Stadia Cochin in Cochin.

Stadia Cochin, Cochin (capacity 49,000)
Located in Cochin, the second largest city in the state, Stadia Cochin is home to Cochin FC, a mid-tier club who has been moving between the Apex and the Supreme League. The stadium is one of the few stadiums in the country with an artificial turf (the other being Dreamers Park).

Ramadau Trish
Located at the west of the country, Ramadau Trish is considered to be the agricultural centre of the country. Many of the residents in the state are farmers, working for a number of local agriculture farms. For people interested in taking a tour of animal farms, this is the go-to state, as many of these farms also provide experiential tours to showcase the entire farming process.

Theatre of Light, Kistina (capacity 59,000)
Home of Kistina Galaxy, one of the big clubs in the Apex, the 59,000 seater stadium is one of the best in the country. A retractable roof is just one of the many technological advancements in the stadium. The stadium could be converted for use by track and field events in just under 8 hours, and it comes with automatic temperature adjustors that can change the internal temperature in under 30 minutes.

Hitimatias
A relatively underdeveloped state in the southwest of the country, Hitimatias is a state that is rapidly developing to be one of the country's technology hubs. There aren't many developments and big cities just yet, but Jacquilton, the capital of the state, is being rapidly expanded. The upcoming Yanderian Startup Hub, located in a 30 minutes ride from the capital city, will feature Poafmersia's 2nd technology-based university, Yanderian Technological College, as well as host various tech startups in the country.

Red Mudra Lane, Mudra (capacity 58,000)
Mudra isn't the capital of Hitimatias, but it is the largest city by population size in the state. The home club, Sochra Mudra FC, is a club that often straggle between the top 2 divisions, but the club remains popular in a state which typically does not have many top football clubs.

Forche
Forche is home to an aerospace hub, known to many as the Planar Aerospace Park. Though parts of the Park straddle the Forche-Tikahs border, it is considered to be the main economic zone of Forche. The Planar Park Airport, while not considered a major airport in Poafmersia, is where the aircraft often comes for main repairs, as it contains lots of hangars for the main local airlines - Phoenix Airlines, and Air Poafmersia.

Stadiun of Legends, Didari (capacity 34,000)
Forche is also one of the smaller states in terms of the football scene. The stadium hosts Didari City, yet another one of those clubs who are at the top of the Supreme League, and occasionally slip into the Apex.

Dalaris
Dalaris may be the smallest state per land size, but it is one of the most well developed states in the country, and is a main driver of Poafmersian economy. Georgetown, located on the Dalaris island, used to be a commercial port, but operations have largely moved across the bridge to Bigsorth. Georgetown is a heritage site, as recognised by the MASC, and there are lots of heritage buildings which represents an important part of Poafmersian history. For visitors interested in heritage tours, a visit to Dalaris is something which should not be missed.

Dalaris State Stadium, City of Dalaris (capacity 46,500)
The main stadium in Dalaris, it is home to Dalaris City, one of the biggest clubs in Poafmersia. 10 years ago, it would be absolutely unbelivable that Dalaris City was going to be one of the finest clubs in Poafmersia. But the club's rise has largely been due to their investments in a bigger stadium, better training facilities, and integrating younger players into their squad. In fact, 3 consecutive years of domination at the top is what prompted many clubs to change their strategies towards football, and changed the face of the then PFFA Premier League, now the Apex. Dalaris State Stadium will be one of the main stadiums in the hosting of the IAC.

Sporting Dalaris Stadium, City of Dalaris (capacity 37,120)
This used to be the main stadium in Dalaris, sharing between Dalaris City and Dalaris Sports FC. Both used to be semi-professional clubs, aiming to dominate the Dalaris State League, a very small football league in Poafmersia. As their bigger city rivals moved out, Dalaris Sports FC took complete ownership of the stadium. The rivalry between both clubs is often seen as a battle of thoughts. Dalaris Sports FC advocates the haggling of the ball, aggressive gameplay, as well as defence-first tactics. Dalaris City, prefers a more balanced approach, utilising possession to build momentum and create fast flowing attacks.

Piskn
Piskn is the other tourism hub, considered the big brother of Dalaris. Piskn has lots of tourist hotspots, like beaches, museums. Trimidau Island is not the usual resort island, but there are lots of fascinating beaches that makes it the big brother of Dalaris. Fast crafts betwen Trimidau and Dalaris happen close to every hourly. There is also the underwater rail between Kingsford, the biggest city on mainland Piskn by population, and Rukiya, the capital of the Trimidau Island. Kingsford and Trimidau Island will have 3 stadiums for the duration of this tournament.

Naksa Stadium, Naksa, Trimidau Island (capacity 41,000)
Trimidau Naksa is the smaller club on the island. Naksa, is the more culturally vibrant side of Trimidau, being on the eastern most point of the island. Facing the East Poafmersian Sea, the beaches are the cleanest on the country, and a grand total of 6 beach resorts exist on the outskirts of the city. Many tourists come to Naksa to enjoy water activities, including Snuba Diving, and Water Surfing.

Rukiya Sports Stadium, Trimidau Island (capacity 37,000)
Rukiya is the more developed part of the island, and is home to some clean factories that accounts for a huge part of the island's economic contributions. However, Rukiya is a must-go for its hawker culture, which is the setting up of food stalls by the road side. The intermingling of tall buildings, together with the kampung-like hawker culture, is what makes Rukiya absolutely interesting. Rukiya Sports Stadium, part of the Rukiya Sports Hub, is the home stadium of Trimidau Rukiya.

Offsdi Stadium, Kingsford (cap. 55,500)
Kingsford is the capital city of the state. It is home to Offsdi Stadium, which is the home stadium of the capital's 3 clubs. It is a very populous state and full of lots of good shops and food.

Gikash
Gikash is a smaller city, with 2 huge industrial estates being part of the state. Located on the southern side of Poafmersia, Gikash is largely home to the manufacturing industry in Poafmersia.

Matty Horis Stadium, Dury (capacity 52,000)
Dury FC's heritage lies in the mining community - a group of miners playing football as a community sport during off days. Of course, with Poafmersia no longer home to mines after the last mine was closed, the football club has evolved to what it is today. Fun fact: "Dury" comes from the word "mondury", meaning miners in Pomish. The town, one of the last surviving towns of the mining era, was named Dury, and the local football club took the name of the city. The stadium is named after Matty Horis, the owner who transformed the club to its professional status, and took money out of his personal pocket to build the first stadium for Dury FC when after they first played in the Champions Cup. Matty Horis remains as an Emeritus Director on the club's board.
Matches:

Cochas
Cochas is home to Mancodas, home to the headquarters of many companies, and also the biggest population center in Poafmersia. There are lots of corporate headquarters and branches in Poafmersia. While the official financial hub is Fiskadaha City, there are other companies who have chose to set up their headquarters and offices here in Mancodas. Mancodas is also home the University of Mancodas, the biggest university in Poafmersia (but may be less popular than the Fiskadaha School of Liberal Arts or the Maximus Rochester Institute for Science and Technological Research), featuring faculties in various areas.

United Park, Greater Mancodas (cap. 61,000)
United Park is located around 35 minutes ride from Camp of Power by bus, but there is no direct bus from that part of the city to this part of the outer limits. United Park is home to FC United of Mancodas, the third club in the Mancodas subregion. FC United is unique in that the ownership lies in the fan club, and the fan representatives make decisions on hiring personnel to the various positions, as well as the sacking of the manager.

Mancodas Complex, Greater Mancodas (cap. 60,000)
Image
Mancodas Complex is part of the Mancodas Sports Complex, the biggest sports complex in Poafmersia. Featuring 6 indoor sports halls, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, the Mancodas Basin (which allows for open water activites), Mancodas training ground (typically used for gridiron and rugby), as well as other indoor facilities such as a cycling track. Mancodas Complex is wel connected to the city center of Mancodas, and is home to Mancodas Athletic FC, the oldest football club in Cochas.

Camp of Power, City of Mancodas (cap. 61,000)
Image
Located in the heart of Mancodas, it is the closest to the Mancodas Airport. It is one of the stadiums with the best facilities, featuring a retractable roof and the ability to change the field format for various sports. It is home to Mancodas City, one of the top clubs in the Apex.

Nitrishi-pai
If Hitimatias is the new technological center of Poafmersia, Nitrishi-pai must be the original one. Home of many research laboratories, development hubs, as well as headquarters of the Poafmersian Defence Forces (PDF), Nitrishi-pai is a sprawling state located on the eastern side of the country. It is home to Maximus Rochester Institute for Science and Technological Research, the premier institute for Science and Technology studies, and produces the most Doctor of Philosophy graduates yearly. It is widely considered to be the top university in Science courses.

Bikarish Stadium, Bikarish (capacity 48,000)
Bikarish is a smaller town in Poafmersia, but has the biggest stadium in all of Nitrishi-pai. Home to Bikarish FC, an elite club playing in the Apex. Bikarish is also home a wafer production industrial area, just outside the city.

Davarsi Bria, Holhot (capacity 36,500)
(Stadium Image)
The stadium is home to Holhot City, a mid-tier club that has stayed in Apex for the past few years. The atmosphere here (as well as the Holtin Kash Stadium) is really strong, with Holters (name of Holhot residents) really proud of their local teams and also supportive of football games.

Holtin Kash Stadium, Holhot (capacity 37,250)
(Stadium Image)
Like Davarsi Bria, Holtin Kash Stadium is located in Holhot. Holhot City and Holhot United was formed by a split in the original club, Holhot FC, and this stadium was built much later then the Davarsi Bria. In recent years, both clubs have seem to have repaired their relationship. While both clubs have some form of rivalry, they have came together to cooperate on some matters, including a combined academy (Holhot Academy), looking at shifting the center of power from their northern neighbours (Bikarish) back to the capital of the state.

Tikahs
Tikahs, the center of Poafmersia, home to Fiskadaha City, the capital of Poafmersia, is also the main financial hub of Poafmersia. The most developed state in Poafmersia. Home of many developments, many financial headquarters, and offices. Tourists would mainly want to come to Tikahs for the amusement parks, the casinos. Businessman would come for Tikahs' numerous conventions, the various business meetings. It is also the main entry point into Poafmersia (through the Fiskadaha International Airport).

Potato Villa, Sarim (capacity 56,000)
One of the major cities in Poafmersia, Sarim is home to various gambling dens. The Potato Villa, however, symbolises a connection to Poafmersia's roots, as an agricultural nation, and the original name "PotatoFarmers".

Totalaha Stadium, Takarti (cap. 49,000)
Takarti is one of the smaller cities in Poafmersia, but is home to a rising club Totalaha. The city is very united around their local football club, and are very supportive of any football coming to their city.

Dreamers Park, Fiskadaha City (capacity 60,000)
Home to the capital's only football club, Fiskadaha FC, Dreamers Park is one of Poafmersia's only artificial fields. The use of an artifical field back then, was a first in Poafmersia, and teams used to find the Dreamers Park a difficult place to navigate due to the lack of natural grass. Nowadays, the Poafmersian National Team use this as their main training ground, an alternate to Libira, and also a place for teams to practice playing on artificial grass.

Libira National Stadium, Fiskadaha City (capacity 68,000)
Image
Located in the heart of Fiskadaha City, it is the home stadium of the Poafmersian National Team, and hosts the PFFA Cup finals yearly. The Libira National Stadium is a multi-use stadium which could be used to host other events, and is one of the first stadiums to have the multi-use feature with regards to the field. It will a very specific role in this tournament, hosting the Grand Finals of the tournament.

Bolded Players are the Playing XI

About the Manager

Shane Newman is a Baker Park born, who took the chance to become the first NT boss for Havynwilde with an understanding that he would have time & resources to build from scratch. He was hounded by negative media coverage, the unrealisitc expectations of supporters & the governing body, and no investment to correct the dearth of talent in the domestic league. He was unceremoniously fired while out of the country on holiday. He'll consider his time there a learning experience. Was the chief defensive architect for the BPNT in the first three WC cycles.Aged 49 and married with three children--a boy and two girls--he will look to the domestic league for talent by focusing on technique, pace, and positional flexibility.

#100 Goblin Grundjee (Forward)
Goblin Grundjee who is the first ever non-human sportsperson from Indusse. The Grundjee's are one of the families of the Goblin species that was created by the scientists by DNA Modelling. The scientists created a new race of Goblins through gene editing and combining the DNAs of Humans with certain animals and Algae. The goblin species were divided into three families were Grundjees are one of the major part. The other two families are called Mithys and Auris. The current members of the grundjee family is Colonel Grundjee who is a Colonel in the royal army of Indusse. The gene of colonel Grundjee was created by merging the genes of three colonels of the army with the genes of a eagle and the green algae. The green algae plays a necessary role in getting the green Color of the skin. The other member is Goblin Grundjee who is currently playing for the juniors. His gene was created by merging the genes of David Bekem, a former football and of a wild horse. The green algae is also a necessary part of the composition. The grundjee family has the green composition of skins due to green algae. Whereas, Mithys has a brownish red skin due to the presence of Blue-green Algae with Iron sediments, Auris family has the skin Color of a normal human as there isn't any presence of algae. The skin textures and patterns of the goblins are same as the humans and the color is the only thing that can discriminate it with humans. The scientific community believe that the goblin race will create revolution in the world of science. The creation of Goblin Grundjee was overseen by fellow player Bechun Butea who also played a major role in bringing Grundjee as a experimental player. Well, Grundjee is currently one of the best strikers the nation has seen.

Home Ground

The Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium, is home to the Flocking Blues and is the largest sports stadium in the nation. The Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium can hold 131,561 spectators in normal cases. The most attendance recorded for an event in the stadium was 148,241 spectators. This historical event happened long before the current stadium had been built. The former stadium known as IFA International Stadium had just a capacity of 108,112 and the event was the Sworn-in of Baskar H Kumar as the first president of the Indusse. In other words, the sworn in was also the same as the nation's independence day. The most spectators for a match was recorded as 118,232 spectators for a match between Indusse and Pratapgadh which was once a derby match.
Image

This Stadium was built first by Aditya Varma Kulashekara, the emperor of Indusse at his reign. The stadium was built as part of giving the Indussean Football Association, a home ground. The Stadium at its beginning had a capacity of 62,122 spectators and was later increased to 97,783. The Stadium also in the past hosted the home matches of Royal Hind City FC (Currently, New Hind City FC) and Hind United FC (Currently dissolved). The Hind United FC got dissolved into Royal Hind City FC and the club through enough funding brought some land near the Darbar Halls and built a stadium there which currently serves as their home ground and the nation's secondary home ground. The IFA Stadium was built close to the Hind River and was surrounded by small forests. The place then known to be Kadaathaaaru was chosen for the stadium, the name literally meant to be "Forest River". The stadium continued to host the nation's home matches until the IFA was disbanded after the invasion of the Islamic Conquerors. The Dari Sultanate rulers took over the nation and placed a ban on all sort of native entertainment including music and sports. The stadium was taken under the custody of the Dari Military and was converted into a arena to propagate Dari Propoganda. The Stadium was renamed as Neimat Abdullah Arena and the capacity was increased to 108,112. The Neimat Abdullah Arena also became the public execution grounds of Natives in Indusse. The Dari Supressed Native Freedom Fighters were beheaded, hanged and shot dead at these grounds. After the Independence, the stadium was renamed as IFA Stadium and held the nation's first independence day celebrations. After a few years, it was renamed to Aditya Varma Kulashekara International Stadium and the capacity was increased to 131,561. The Government then also decided to set up a monument for the natives who were killed by the supression. The Divya Azadi Stambh (Divine Freedom Pillar) located in the stadium complex is the so called monument. This Pillar is an important part of the nation's independence day celebrations.

Qual: Unlikely!
note: players are pseudonymously referred to by number only, to avoid legal and diplomatic complications with nation-states. Players are highly likely to commit crimes, smuggle something or abet its smuggling, assist hated revolutionaries, or suchlike. Shiprats have names, but might or might not tell you them and could invent one from whole cloth for their own amusement. Typically these will have some political or cultural significance and/or be fully translatable Sea People names.

Home venue: Admirable Waters Field. Capacity: 600 + ship deck. Elevation: 0. As the Anarchists left the dome back in AO, refusing to participate in the region's administrative responsibilities nor field capitalist "club sides", their only place left to play is a platform that slides out of the starboard side of their Anarcha-Ship the Admiral Waters. Slick! Lifeguards are available for any fans who slip or fall overboard. Concessions include a short rotating menu of cheap and hacky but filling and nutritious multiversal staples, with one of the chefs' specialties like the spicy bean burger, the breakfast burrito, yellow curry, or pizza with vegetarian and hypoallergenic options. Pay-what-you-can for members of anarchist organizations abroad and free for ship rats; affordable for everyone else, but with a healthy margin to fund activities and maintain the Admiral Waters.

Formation: Anarchist total football. Other than keepers, players have primary and secondary roles instead of strict and traditional positions. Play typically begins in something resembling a 3-3-1-3 for maximum flexibility but very frequently shifts. Players unsatisfied with any decisions may vote anyone on the roster in or out of any managerial or coaching position at any time.

Kit: All black bodysuit made of extremely breathable synthetic fibers with enigmatic design and manufacturing, produced in a secret lab presumably below deck or maybe invisible.

Typical Starters
0: GK & current elected Manager, 30ish/F. Long ball specialist, punting, placekicking or throwing. Heavily involved at all times and often facilitates position changes for others. Occasionally menaces the opposing keeper on corner kicks. Takes penalties AET. Also enjoys manufacturing and designing poison darts.
1: Wide Defender, early 20s/M. Progressor and overlapper. Finds joy on either wing occasionally, but can also step up to make the tackle or painful block.
2: CD, mid 20s/N. Anchor and spreader. Keeps possession safe.
3: WD, early 20s/F. Safety and aggressor.
4: Deep Mid, mid 20s/N. Builder and distributer.
5: DM, early 20s/M. Box to box and builder.
6: MF, early 20s/F. Orchestrator and distributer.
7: Advanced Mid & current elected Tactician, mid 20s/M. Creator and box crasher.
8: Wide Attacker, 19ish/F. Wide threat and outlet.
9: Central Attacker, mid 20s/N. Target and finisher.
10: Mixed Attacker, early 20s/M. Unlocker and roamer.

Bench
11: GK, late 20s/N. Sweeper keeper. Enjoys offside traps, watching or doing.
12: GK, mid 20s/M. A calming presence on the field when he's not being a little reckless himself.
13: WD, late teens/F. Safety and progressor. Versatile sub and occasional starter.
14: CD & currently elected Assistant Coach, mid 20s/M. Aggressor and anchor. Defensive sub and occasional starter.
15: CD, early 20s/N. Aggressor and spreader. Comes in to freshen up the defense often.
16: WD, late teens/M. Overlapper and progressor. Hasn't done much but looking to get some action in IAC.
17: DM, early 20s/F. Distributor and builder.
18: M, early 20s/M. Distributor and box crasher. Comes in to freshen up midfield.
19: AM, early 20s/N. Box crasher and creator. Frequent offensive sub, occasional starter.
20: WA, late teens/F. Unlocker and outlet. Frequent offensive sub.
21: CA, early 20s/M. Roamer and target.
22: CA, late teens/F. Finisher and roamer. Very frequently used offensive sub.

English name: Bear Mountain National Stadium
Capacity: 11,569
Location: Port Saint-Jean, Île de Richelieu

The Stade national de la montagne de l'ours has been build specifically for international matches. Île de Richelieu's population is 928, so, with a capacity of 11,569, a little more than 10,000 foreign football fans can attend the games!

The stadium has 3 stands. East Side stand, West Side stand and North Endline Stand. There is a small VIP stand on the south endline and the pressbox is located on the south endline as well. The stadium has lights on the four corners so evening games can be played. The stadium doesn't have a video board, nor a scoreboard.

Île de Richelieu (formerly known as Jan Mayen Island) was discovered by Dutch explorers early in the 17th century and served as a whaling base until it was abandonned. France claimed the island in the 19th century and renamed it Île de Richelieu (Richelieu Island) but the island's jurisdiction was finally given to Norway. The French speaking majority, led by the clergy, declared the independence of Île de Richelieu in 1948.

Île de Richelieu's population is 928. The largest city and capital city is Port Saint-Jean and more than the half of the island's population lives in the city (534). The city have a few upscale restaurants along with fast food restaurants and some local pubs. Beer is largely consumed on the island and Richelois likes to get around at the local pub after work.

The island only have one hotel and it may cause a problem if 10,000 football fans are coming. The only hotel on the island is a 124 room SpringHill Suites by Marriott located in the old Port Saint-Jean and half of hotel will be reserved for the visiting team (players, staff and media) who will have 50 rooms at their disposal. The remaining rooms (74) will be sold at a high price for football fans. The island also has a dozen of guesthouses that ranges from 1 to 8 rooms each. Football fans will have to bring their tents and sleeping bags and camp on the outskirts of the town!

île de Richelieu has a hyperoceanic polar climate with a Köppen classification of ET (polar with tundra), sometimes reckoned as EM (maritime polar). Seasonal temperature variations are extremely small considering the latitude of the island, with ranges from around 6 °C (43 °F) in July/August to −4 °C (25 °F) in February/March. The highest recorded temperature in the summer was 18.1 °C (64.6 °F) in june and the lowest recorded temperature was -28.4 °C (-19.1 °F) in february. Being located inside the arctic circle, île de Richelieu experiences sun light almost all day long in the summer and darkness almost all day long in the winter.

SQUADRA NAZIONALE DI JUVENCUS

Image

Information about Juvencus:
Capital: Pomena
Population: 130,656,702 ethnic Juven, with a total of 150,048,720 including naturalised immigrants.
Demonym: Juven
Country Code: JUE
Football Association: JFA(Juven Football Association)
Nicknames: Gli attaccanti(The attackers), La squadra(The team)
Football philosophy: At this point, to play football in Juvencus you need to understand that no matter who you are, pushing forward is the MOST essential core value you can bring in your game. Both strikers and defenders alike are equally likely to strike from any range at any time. Defense is not neglected, but is not as valued as being a scary goalscorer up front.
Official Record(WCC-Sanctioned only): 372 Games played(203 W - 85 D - 104 L)

La Squadra:

*BOLD & UNDERLINED INDICATES STARTER

Goalkeepers:

This is a spot traditionally given to the players with the fastest reaction times and the grit to withstand the pressure of being the goalkeeper in a team that cares way more to attack than to defend. Despite the shit they receive in comparison to the rest of the team, those are true inspirations on the pitch and are always treated as such by players and other managers alike.

GK:Juan Carlos Ungaro(Age 26)(U.S Scudelli)

GK:Sócrates Wright(Age 24)(AC Pomena)
GK:Bardhyl Imeri(Age 20)(Cordoba FC)

Iago Asputti's absence from the goalkeeper lineup may come as a shock to some, but to those in the know, it was to be expected after several mediocre performances against lower-ranked sides during the qualifiers of the world cup. His replacement is young prodigy Bardhyl Imeri, who proved to be pivotal in Cordoba FC's rise by helping them keep some very important scorelines. Generally speaking, the lineup of goalkeepers screams strong reflexes and youthfulness, rather than experience and should be treated as such. Both Wright and starter Juan Carlos Ungaro are aware of the glass canon that is their position and have proven time and time again to be talented keepers.

Defenders:

The defender's position is always kept for players who are speedy, positionally adept and physically strong for their size and usually either have excellent leadership skills, game intelligence or a hot-headedness and most of a time a combination of the three. It is a position that also lacks the respect it deserves in Juven society, but it is one that is necessary in order to make it easier for the goalkeeper and the team as a whole.

CB:Carlo Callejon(Age 29)(Brattleboro FCImage)(Second Captain) (Captain)
CB:Pau Puig(Age 26)(AS Aguajú)
CB:Carlos Coste(Age 25)(Couno RangersImage)

CB:Giorgio Stafilidi(Age 23)(Herona Calcio)
CB:Ignacio Lopes(Age 21)(U.S Scudelli)

Huge changes in the defensive line as well following Ibarra's retirement from international football, while Lucia Agnelli was pushed off for prospects Stafilidi, the Ampelonian defender is tall and physically strong as well as Ignacio Lopes, whose keen vision and focus in the game as well as reaction time are important assets to uphold. The obvious talent, experience and leadership of Carlo Callejon will be important in maintaining this defensive line, whose spitefulness and speed will be helpful as well. Pau Puig is known to be a boulder due to his sheer size and extreme difficulty to get past while Carlos Coste's serial winning attitude, accurate passing and focus complete the trio of defenders beautifully.

Midfielders:

A midfielder is always a maestro on the pitch and depending on which side of the midfield they are in, their characteristics change. There's no pure centrocampista in Juvencus, instead players play as offensive-minded CDM's in the middle of the field. Those players usually have vision, exceptional passing or crossing and usually dictate the speed of the attack, the most necessary element of this team's tactics. They also fall back to form a bus when deemed absolutely necessary. In the sides, you have wide midfielders who act as supplementary wingers, players with speed who can provide to the wingers or the forwards when necessary. As such, you get to see fast players with great inward crossing and forward passing.

CDM:Giuseppe Conte(Age 27)(U.S Scudelli)
CDM:Félix Sissoko(Age 26)(Kingston FCImage)
RM:Simon Oliveira(Age 26)(Newark ArgyleImage)
LM:Carla Acquati(Age 25)(FC Piluzzi)

CDM:Sara Ponce(Age 22)(AC Serone)
CDM:Raul Viejo(Age 18)(AC Pomena)

RM:Gustavo Alfonso(Age 19)(S.S.C Tipoli)
RM:Paola Cernoia(Age 23)(Cordoba FC)

LM:Joao Peres(Age 21)(U.S Remeno)
LM:Fantasia Bergoglio-Bertolini(Age 24)(Herona Calcio)

As if the pattern has not been obvious by this point, Madeiros has been doing a general overhaul of the team and it is to be seen in the midfield of the team as well. Loads of talented additions and replacements have been found from the up-and-coming clubs of the top division of Juven football, of which Newark Argyle's Simon Oliveira is the most talented at first glance. With his mercurial attitude to the game, highly-accurate passing and generally high conversion rate in front of the net, he is the player to maintain a big lookout on. The absence of Kouyaté is no joke, despite strong performances in the qualifiers, Madeiros felt that his time with the time has to finish unless he improves, with Giuseppe Conte stepping up to replace him, a role not so small for someone not typically a start with this team.

Attackers:

A position held with the utmost respect as it has the most prestige in Juven football. The task to be picked for it is simple, you should know both how to score and how to supply goals. It is a position that has the most competition, as most talented Juven players are up in front and are very known across the multiverse for their prowess in front of the goal. As such, it is a position with a lot of pressure to be in, much like the goalkeeper. Wingers are fast, brilliant technicians who are excellent suppliers and have a confusingly good shooting technique. Strikers on the other, they have a strong finishing touch akin to an unstoppable force on a consistent level.

RF:Joao Pereyra(Age 27)(BrinemouthImage)
LF:Ganymede Garcia(Age 26)(AC Pomena)
CF:Ceferino Audiol(Age 25)(SerrapinceImage)

LF:Carlo Bevilacqua(Age 21)(ChromatikImage)
LF:Edu Coste(Age 26)(AC Pomena)

RF:Gilberto Soares(Age 27)(U.S Scudelli)
RF:Tatiana Vicario(Age 22)(AS Aguajú)

CF:Julio Campana(Age 26)(New Lakeland Soccer ClubImage)
CF:Benedikto Urruchi(Age 27)(Sydberg OlympiaImage)

The most respected spot in Juven football was bound to have several changes following Martell's retirement as well as general struggling during the qualifiers of the world cup. Campana stepping off the starting 11 to be replaced by Ceferino Audiol is a huge shocker, but with the latter's excellent appearances in Kelssek(being Champion with Kirkenes) and big money move to Tumbra it was almost natural to happen. That is not to say Campana is not perhaps one of the best forwards in the multiverse at the moment, but Audiol's form is out of this world and that is hard to ignore. Ganymede Garcia's return to Juvencus has brought several eyes in regards to his performances abroad, especially with the rise of Carlo Bevilacqua, known to be quick, agile and with a shooting technique unlike any other and the recent attention he has been receiving by a lot of elite clubs seems to be showing he is stepping to the right direction.

Main formation:

Image

What is going on? A squad where everyone is under 30 to defend the team's most prestigious trophy won so far? The team is actually living up to the nation's name? Surely this does not spell disaster in the works right? Apparently not to Madeiros, who took a lot of scouting throughout the Campionato and after studying its most talented up-and-coming talent has decided to give a lot of players the chance to represent the nation for the first time in its Independents Cup defence. Of course, a lot of talented "veterans" have remained in the team's ranks to help carry it to gold once again.

Tactically, he wants to create a more sound team that is willing to play more technically instead of only relying to crosses and pushing the team inside the net, as was the case in the qualifiers. The technicality he is giving the Pomenienze is taking advantadge of the youthfulness of the team and their speed with the ball on their feet, as such a more high intensity forward line will be used and swift counter-attacks will be the norm, as always but much in a more rapid way. Whether or not this will bear any fruit is yet to be seen, but as team practice keeps on taking place, some chemistry is getting built between the new internationals and the old ones.

The formation is the typical 3-4-3 marriage ring formation. 3 center backs form the core of the backline, while the two center center backs closer to the sides can have a sort of free role to move to the side to defend but also move up to the midfield to orchistrate any attacks. To join them are 2 of the central defensive midfielders, who tend to hold back when it comes to defence and start position but move up usually with through-balls and crosses to the attackers or wingers. The side midfielders act as secondary wingers, meaning they have the exact same role at a slower intensity, with crosses to the main strikers or long-shots being their strong suit, they are usually the fastest players in the team. The difference between them and the wingers is that wingers play more forward because they usually possess better technicality with the ball on their feet, meaning they are swift dribblers and are a bit more clinical in front of the net, other than that, they help the striker in the first line of offense and defence of the high-line. Lastly, the striker is the main scorer most of the time, usually being fed with crosses and through-balls by the rest of the team, usually with a strong shooting ability and headers being their main source of scoring.

When it comes to penalties, the player who earns it takes it. When it comes to long-range free kicks, a midfielder will take it, while short-range free kicks are to be kicked by any of the wingers.

Choose my goalscorers: Yes but please, for the love of god, if your team is low-ranking, new or whatever try NOT using most of my starting lineup players and instead using my depth, unless it's a knockout game. If your team is high-ranking, still try to use a couple of my substitutes thanks. AKA what I am saying here is, be reasonable and realistic.

The SMSDA Captains made their world debut at- well, out on a soldout Admirable Waters Field in front of 600 sometimes distracted fans. According to my privileged sources, the rumors circulating about at least 90% of the spectators having scammed at least several Gems fans for completely nonexistent 'tickets' are almost certainly true. Never take crime reports with a grain of salt around here! Well, the Caps apparently wanted to show off the exact starting lineup submitted to IAC officials and almost universally inferred by the player numbers. 0 looked unshakeable as a manager and communicator but got lucky when multiple unblooded Gems hit posts and crossbars. 1 was a star on both sides of the nut, delivering several crunching tackles to the raucous applause of suddenly-interested shiprats and fellow travelers, while occasionally tormenting the Gs on the left wing- their weakest. 4 showed off their relative skill at calm decisionmaking and efficient, even intimate passing around a Gems defense that was often adequate but never much more. As expected, the glorified convention center and markethold was unable to field serious competition against the Caps. We took the other guys' names, I'm pretty sure of that and there was definitely a referee or two, but it's pretty much been a game of telephone since then. Better luck next time, nerdbitches!

Familiar Places, Familiar Foes

HUElavia return to Poafmersia looking to return to glory days of deep runs with familiar faces in the group.

Two years have passed since HUElavia returned to the World Cup, after a long 24 year absence that saw the team not even get close to the playoffs all those years. With the appointment of Quebec and Shingoryeo's Lester O'Reagan, HUElavia have gotten back to a grand stage, much like Leonardo Conavacio, the Q&S manager that led to Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos their first IAC title 16 years ago. Despite back to back titles in the 15th and 16th editions, HUElavia has found themselves knocked out in essentially what's been the Round-of-16 in the past two editions, a fact that torments the pride of the players and fans alike.

For the first time in IAC history, the tournament returns to the same host nation as the previous edition, with it being Poafmersia, who becomes the first nation to organize 3 separate editions of the IAC (4, if you count the inclusion of Libira National Stadium as one of the 16 venues throughout 16 nations). HUElavia had strongly considered co-hosting the tournament, but it was opted to push their intentions for another edition in order to assist their proposed co-host in preparations for organizing the tournament.

O'Reagan brings in a mix of mainly veteran players, along with a small mix of young players that have proven their worth these past two years domestically and with international tournaments. Some feel this is a mix of peak players and rising talents that nearly enters a transitional roster, but O'Reagan once more came out to the defense of his selection. "Many of these players may be similar to the World Cup squad I chose two years ago, but I feel these are the best players the country has to offer. After all, the IAC is an obsession for this team and country, and we need the very best to reclaim this title."

HUElavia, despite two relatively early exits in the past two editions, were still ranked No. 5 in the rankings, thus were placed as a Pot 1 team for the Group Stage draw. The team was placed in Group A with the likes of Aquatian, Abanhfleft, Harry Islands, Khoxsa, and Cakranegara. Most notably in this draw, HUElavia and Abanhfleft, the 2nd and 3rd best teams all time in the IAC, will face each other again for the 3rd consecutive edition, in one of the most contentious rivalries in the IAC. There is also a rematch with Cakranegara from IAC 18 Group Stage, and Harry Islands from IAC 17 Group Stage. Either way, the projections looks for HUElavia and Abanhfleft to be contending for the Top 2 spots.

The team intends to give it their all and seek to play at least all players during the Group Stage to give minutes to everyone, but the main players are expected to be the main starters for the more important matches. The fans travel once more to Poafmersia, looking to cheer on the team, doing their traditional act of taking up an entire endzone to drape the end with the colors of Yellow, Blue, and Green.

Here's top hoping we have a strong and emphatic opening match.

FORCA HUELAVIA! VAMOS HUELAVIA! GO HUELAVIA!

The Valentian International Football Association – Happy 19th Independence! Wait, does this make sense?

Image

Yes, our 4th Independents Cup, one that we hope that we can at least put some dent into. We have done a little too poorly in World Cup 94, and we also missed our chance to get into Cup of Harmony. All in good spirit, of course, for we are aware of our own shortcomings. A bit of a disappointing start for the year, but with the Brevity Cups – our very first season in that series – also happening, perhaps these might all be good practice for the World Cup.

Katten en Kittens van De Wereld – The Whiskers – The Second Season Fur-Friends.

Our history can be read here in the previous edition. As fur now, well, we did not have had such a good season previously, but that is completely fine! After all, that was our very first season, and we did manage our best, but the human (and other species) have gotten us beat. Not to mention, I reckon that it was sort of awkward for the lot of them as well, what with having to avoid stepping on us, and we also making sure that we are not tackling them accidentally, for that would be an automatic red card for us! So, now with all the refreshed and revitalized spirits, we are going to show these people that cats also do belong on the football field, more than just licking our bodies.

Imagine the uniforms as one of those little cat clothes that people made cats wear, except now they are in the shape of football jersey in team’s color. Just call us cats, that’s pretty good enough. NO relation to Valentian Kittens.

The Whiskers’ Roster

Team Manager / Captain: The Small en Cute en Cuddly Orange Tabby :3

Current Roster: Formation 1-2-7 / 1 forward, 2 midfielders, 7 defenders, 1 goalkeeper.

Cats age relatively slowly, at the rate such that the ages below are human equivalents on this chart here.

TROLLEBORG NATIONAL TEAM

Nickname: Trolls

Preferred color of the team is green, with white and red versions as second choice. All three was obvious choice, since they all are present at the national flag. Blue color is one that associated with medieval color of arms of the time when Trolleborg undergo a great test of strength. In the crisis that our football is experiencing in recent years, it is possible to use any technology, including attempts to vary the uniform in the hope of finding a "lucky" option.

Image

NATIONAL TEAM

Trolleborg team take part in IAC’s since 9th edition, and right now have on balance 44 victories, 6 draws and 16 losses. Three times our lads goes to final of this tournament, but every time was defeated. After rather disappointing string of defeats and failures fans seeing this IAC like a chance to have redeem their faith in the team’s capabilites.

COACH

62-years old Morten Troghil is a manager of the team since its creation. He brought Trolleborg team onto 25th spot in the world ranks but also preside over steady deterioration of its position almost up to the ante. He also take our lads to the height of IAC tables, but it will be seen, are his best days ahead or not.

PLAYERS

GOALKEEPERS

Morten Kerr (30). This is very skilful and intelligent player, who take a way from the U21 team to the national one by virtue of his reflexes, bravery and clear reading of the game. But he never became the way fans and coaches would like to see him.
Buyo (25). One of the people who migrate into Trolleborg after country open himself to the world ten years ago, he is recent addition to the team. Not tall for a goalkeeper, but very fast, brave and jumpy, he performs consistently well in the championship, but in games for the national team he alternates excellent matches with disastrous ones.
Torben Fingall (25). Prove himself efficient and reliable, he has a great talant of well-positioning himself, and extremely fast in addition. He have some playing time in the recent tournaments, but clearly he is number 3 in the fight for a shirt of national team goalkeeper. Contrary to expectations, Troghil don't take anyone else as third goalkeeper, prefer to have the same set as before.

DEFENDERS

Torstein Bjerkelund (25). Right defender was part of the “Finn Hurps” squad that won Confederations Trophy, in the recent games of international club tournaments he prove that he doesn't get frightened when he has to fight for the ball with stronger and more experienced players. He also prove this at the national team and ready to fight for a spot on the right flank with Schendel – or, being relatively young, sub him after valiant veteran will retire.
Hendrick Haar (25). New face in the line of Trolleborg national team defenders, he is right defender of the traditionally preferred mold – good tackler, fast moving, joining attack when have opportunity.
William Schendel (29). This versatile fast moving defender known for his skillful positioning and man-marking, highly effective in breaking opposition attacks, great in the heading, with incredible high crosses-interception rate.
Joran Du Riis (33). Cold-blooded fighter prove that he more than capable holding his own at the highest level. Agile and fast-moving, but solidly builded and used this for his advantage, he play with composure and responsibility, he was a key player of the Trolleborg defence. He is now captain of the team.
Miran Fizer (31). This very robust player has a nickname “Greaven”, meaning in Trollish language a very strong sort of mountain stone. Miran have a great positioning skills, he fight for every ball, dominant in the aerial game and very tight marker, but he looked like person totally devoid of any constructive capacity. He capable only of limited passing and never goes far forward. His mode of work usually limited to disrupting any activity by the opposing team in his area of responsibility, and once in possession of the ball, he usually sends it wherever direction he face. At least he did what everyone wanted from him recently: he was a key man in the games with Villita and Flavovespia, and, albeit he is rare bird in the starting lineup of the team, maybe he at least found himself at his place.
Kjell Helvig (25). This brave defender shows commitment and hard work in every game, in addition to good positional sense, and prove himself very difficult to beat by opposition forwards. Being very mobile, he frequently moves forward to support attack. He shown noticeable progress in the few last years, and made it to the national team squad. It will be seen, are he will be a man up to the tasks situation give him.
Thomas Heg (26). This versatile defender can play as both central or left defender, but he best suited as a former. His movements are sure and quick, he is masterful when intercepting ball and excellent in the air. He did what he have to do in the recent tournaments, but this did not bring too much luck to the team.
Joos Haankrands (27). Left defender, agile and fast, he have makings of the first-rate star on his position, but right now it was not clear, is he is on the way to greatness. Probably it will be seen in WCQ games.
Joran Rijsager (29). Left defender or central defender as coach see fit, he concedes nothing to rivals and rarely makes a mistakes in local league, but his performance at the national team up to date is not too convincing.

MIDFIELDERS

Anselm Kollimor (28). Attack-minded right-side midfielder. His runs into the box of rival teams is always dangerous. But he will have a tough fight for the spot at the team lineup, since he has to fight for a spot with Jesper Gronholm.
Jesper Gronholm (30). Established member of the team, he was comfortable at the right flank as midfielder and winger, willingly join any move forward, where he pass ball quickly and thoughtfully, and sometimes shot at goal with a very decent results. But at the recent tournaments he was not too convincing, and, most probably, coach give a spot on the right flank to someone else.
Jesper Wolters (28). Quick, skillful and creative, this central midfielder covers a lot of ground, taking part in defensive work and joining attacks willingly. But he has a clear difficulties adapting to the international football recently, lost his spot in the lineup and move to the subs.
Brutil Skrta (28). Very complete player, who posessed ability, stamina, flair, technique and resoluteness in just perfect mix. Shows tremendous accuracy when passing, fine distant shooting skills, he moved very fast and prove his talents brilliantly in the last few tournaments. But he lacked something to be the player like Morten Troll was in his best years
Kenneth Pathmoor (29). This central midfielder can cover a lot of space in the middle of the field and with his pace, agility and an eye for goal he willingly can find net himself or conjure goal opportunity for his forwards.
Torben Scantorp (26). This defensive midfielder ball-winning talents are remarkable. He has a talent of reading game (and some also joking, that also reading thoughts), and is untiring worker, also capable to bring ball forward fast and precise. Head coach give him time at the field and this player is don’t make obvious blunders.
Torben Pangborn (28) Skilful central left midfielder, whose great speed allows him to outpace opponents and break through rival defences. His talents allow him to make a lot of scoring chances for the team, and due to his speed he is very useful in the counter-attacks.
Karsten Gould (28). This versatile midfielder can play as a left midfielder or forward if needed. But his passing much better than shooting skills, so he prefer not to make long shots, instead move into the box very fast and try to make dangerous continuations. He prove himself well in the international club tournaments last season and his chances for a place in the lineup improved as a result of recent changes in the squad.
Casper Sogndal (26). One of the new faces in the team, this left winger clearly try to emulate best performers of our national team, and did real well in the club international tournaments. But it will be seen, if his arsenal of tricks will be enough to earn him spot on the field

FORWARDS

Torben Kranforde (29). Very fast forward, who have special ability to surprise rival defenders. He also posessed a great skill of positioning himself very well, and regularly sent many defenders and goalkeepers into despair with his precise and deadly shots from both feet. He scored many goals for national team, but nevertheless this didn’t help team to win any silverware, and his popularity not rises to the level of his great predecessors.
Morten Kroonquist (30). This fast forward known for intensity of his game, and he is capable to maintain workrate in all 90 minutes. With enviable quickeness he moved very fast, turns very well, constantly pressurized rival defenders, with or without balls, and always trying winning back posession.
Skovdal Kroldrup (27). Quick, direct striker, capable to finding gaps in the rival defence. Technically good, he can shield ball well, but prefer one-touch moves.
Kendall Kerl (28). This power forward proved himself very effective (if judged by recent international club tournaments) in front of goals. Physically strong, so he don’t have need to shies away from collusions, but usually he prefer to concentrate on his prime functions, and he also blessed by great technoque, so scores a lot of goals from just one touch.
Jasper Skjold (25). Player of the U18 Trolleborg team in the times of its debute, he already having a reputation of a great master of avoiding man-marking and put himself where opportunity to put a goal exist. His goalscoring instincts already earned him every year a good place in the league scoresheet.

TEAM TACTICS AND GAME STYLE

With Morten Troghil at the helm team continue practiced attractive attacking game on a fast pace. Usually he use 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 depending on what opponents have on hands. Team always try to use pressing when ball is not on our side.

Unsportsmanlike behavior in Trolleborg is highly discouraged, even – and especially – if in the interests of the cause. National team players are required to meet the highest standards possible, so it is completely impossible to imagine a player of the Trolleborg national team faking injury or begging for a penalty. It is expected that players who have a choice between faked fall and appeal for penalty and try to continue game choice latter without any doubts. Compromises impossible.

Style –5.
No, there was no confusion, team played attacking football on the field, while having negative style modifier for a scorinating purposes.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: No
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but I reserve right to estimate injury severeness.
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes only for a last ditch fouls or two yellows, any other variants must be discussed with me.
Godmod other events: Generally no, but if you have something interesting in mind, let me know and we try to find a middle ground. In accordance with remark about unsportsmanlike behaviour above any insinuations about dishonest behavior of players, fistfights, dirty play, or pressure on the referee on the part of Trolleborg team is counted as Godmod and needed to be discussed.

OUR FANS

Fans is a pride of Trolleborg and almost part of the team. They always are arrived in big crowds when chances to see national team is real, and they are also well accustomed to the Poafmersia, they visited this country almost every year and sometimes even more often, so maybe at the stadiums Trolleborg team will have feel almost as at home.

Greetings, compatriots!
It’s TTV and right now we will have a conversation with our FA Chairman Torben Mortensen – but right now without journalist in the lightspot. We are made a hard choice between having one of the pretty TTV-S presenters as interviewer and just give T.M. air time and decide in favour of latter option. So right now we invite him to do precise that.

Torben Mortensen move himself into the center of stage and begins to speak without looking at any papers or prompter screens
Greetings, compatriots!
In advance I must agree with you all that this time is not the best and greatest one for our football. Despite the obvious pains of football players and coaches, despite the seas of labor sweat shed in training and games, despite the tremendous efforts, our national team ended up last season in the seventh dozen of the ranking of world football countries. In addition, although it seemed that our clubs have perfectly acclimatized in world sports, the last season of their performances in international club tournaments can only be called a catastrophic failure. Even at the time of debute our clubs showed themselves better. Although the tournaments are still going on, we must accept that the second place in the Champions League – which seemed very close and achievable – we will not see at least another season and maybe at least two.

For the reasons for all this many of you will prefer to look for some ill-wishers and the evil will. Not so long ago, I attended a sports film festival, which, as you all know, has now been decided to make an annual event, and there such thoughts in society found their obvious reflection – precisely because this sort of sentiments is on the rise. A whole set of films is devoted precisely to the machinations of some sort of villains, separately and collectively, in the forms ranging from comic tapes, as an example of which I can name a film about a team pulled by their ears for the sake of profits on bets into the first ranks of world football powers, although its players did not even learn the rules of football, and up to the “Server of Disagreement” mockumentary. Whoever hasn't seen it, I recommend to go, at least for the fun, and whoever is lazy, can count on TTV-S, which will surely show samples during the next qualifying company of the World Championship. What can I say, undoubtedly, our country has ill-wishers, some with obvious reasons not to like us, others simply because of their specific mindset (let’s name this so) and arrogance. It is also obvious that world football is a strange, unpredictable place where much is hidden under water and is hard to see, as, for example, undercurrents or radio waves would be hard to see with the naked eye. Nevertheless, the reasons should be looked for, if in this, then not only in this.

I insist that we are taking things too seriously. It is interesting that, although there are strong ideas about world football as a toy in the hands of some conspirators, and about the apparatus of its management as a gang of intriguers, we never got anything like the Electrumite “Turnip”, which discussed such topics without anguish, but in a light, entertaining style, furnishing everthing with jokes. Our athletes have a lot of work to do, but we must learn not to approach the matter with the slogan “win or die”, with understanding that after losing they are must not to break and fall. On the eve of the opening of the 140th League season, I am ready to say to our athletes: we are with you, and we will stay with you, no matter what happens, if you show full dedication. The country – I dare to speak on behalf of the country – does not need self-sacrifice without meaning. Remember, although the fans have great powers, in the history of our international sport, which has seen a lot of undeserved defeats and bitter failures, not a single coach of any team in any sport has been removed. Our citizens will forgive you any failure, give you carte blanche for any experiments, if only you, dear athletes, demonstrate due spirit and perseverance.

This IAC we start as the second team in the rankings, and this is very encouraging. But the last tournament we started first, with all flames extinguished after group stage – and this should also be remembered. The opponents in the group tournament are not easy, it will take a lot of will and effort to defeat them, but this is not bad, because the character is tempered and skill increases thanks to game with serious opponents. This time we will have three opponents that our athletes have never met before, and such a games is almost always great, so I invite all our football fans who have not yet issued tickets to Poafmersia to do so as soon as possible. Let's make this campaign of our national team memorable and bright!

The Archalitian Pirates
STYLE MOD: 0

About the Pirates
The Archalitian football team, nicknamed the “Pirates” in accordance with the Pirate’s Republic, are a fledgling
team in the Football world. Two cycles back, Archalit's Pirates debuted in BoF 80 where they saw moderate
success, taking silver overall, but they proceeded to fall short, staying stuck in the midtable for much of the
World Cup Qualifiers. Thus, they came through to the next cycle with a new roster and a dream, and managed
to go all the way to playoffs only to be brutally defeated in the biggest game of this teams career—Archalit vs
Chromatika. Still, they held their head high after getting knocked out and proceeded to podium in the Cup of
Harmony, going nearly undefeated barring the semifinal against Milchama. Now comes IC-19, and the team is
ready to throw it all back onto the drawing board and think about how we can create a new roster that can
succeed the former.

About Archalit
Archalit is a socialist state associated with The Communist Bloc. After a recent regime change, the nation has begun the radical shift from an oppressive totalitarian state with closed borders to a democratic, socialist state that follows the doctrine of Libertarian Socialism. Because of the push to participate on the international stage, the Pirate's Republic of Archalit began a rapidly developing sports program. They are notable for their unique history with Piracy and complete lack of prisons. The nation is massive and it's population is an astounding 6 billion, although the birth rate is steady and showing no signs of changing. The capital of Archalit is Charkara, the home of the Archalit Olympic Stadium, housing a capacity of ninety-five thousand people.
Roster Information
First and foremost, Kim Jin-Ham and Rayth Lionheart have retired from the National team. With two players leaving the team, two were invited from the youth programs to join the team for IC-19. This tournament serves as an excellent opportunity to test out our roster during the off-season, and see if any tweaks need to be made.

The goalkeepers have simply become a smaller group, having lost a reserve in Kim Jin-Ham. Roland Baker will be sitting on the bench for this tournament in favor of Damien Looke, although it's likely this change is not permanent and will only be the case for the Brevity Challenge Cup. Not much more to talk about in the goalkeeper section.

The midfielders are an interesting story. Back during the first World Cup cycle, Ethan San was still a teenager. At just 18 years old, he was a part of the powerful Archalitian team that took silver in the 80th Baptism of Fire, despite their momentum fizzling out in the proceeding World Cup. However, he temporarily left the main team to compete with the U21's in the Di Bradini cup, and did not come back for the latest World Cup cycle. However, he's back in fitness and ready to play, and he's instantly taken the starting position alongside Terry Yang, Duke Sondas, and August Armburst. This powerful group is the backbone of the team, and they stand behind one crazy developing lineup.

The forwards are still as normal. Cynthia Harmonia and Micha Sooza play on the right and left of Lyndon Nightmare and they'll be on the starting lineup for this match. However, while Micha Sooza is getting older, Minato Gee is starting to look like his replacement. Coming out of the youth team, Minato Gee, sister of one of the original starters Jose Gee, will be standing by as a powerful left-wing sub for Sooza, and it's getting more and more likely that the team will need a new player on the left in the near future.

Note: In the Adabian timeline, IAC 19 takes place from June-July 2046. Age is as of June 1, 2046.

The Adabian National Football Team

Demonym: Adabian (plural Adabians)
Association: Adab Football Association (AFA)

BACKGROUND
Saad Kaykali finds himself presiding over a rapidly aging staff and squad. With the exception of the 59-year-old assistant manager Rashid Abbas, the entire coaching staff is in their sixties or beyond; Kaykali himself is 72. A large part of the squad is in their thirties; Naram-Sin Samanu, at 28, is the youngest. With mounting calls for regeneration within the national team, Kaykali has signified that this IAC will “in one way or another signify the end of an era”; which many take as a hint that a few of the older players, particularly Enlilbani Yargab and Ephraim Orlev, will bow out of the national team before the next World Cup qualifiers. But no one knows for sure what the future holds for this team.

KIT

The national team's kits, designed by Ahmad Enlil (the first President of the Football Association) in 1907, are currently manufactured by Shining Sun Company, owned by Rahman Ashurbanipal, businessman and grandson of Emperor Tizqar III.

STAFF
Manager: Saad KAYKALI - Male – born January 20, 1974 (age 72)
At the peak of his power and popularity following Adab’s recent success on the international stage, some around Saad Kaykali have nevertheless noticed that the manager appears tired and worn out at times, which is not very surprising considering everything that has happened around him. But the idea of retirement has not been floated, at least not publicly. Kaykali insists he is “more than ready and excited to help carry this team forward and achieve even greater success”.

Assistant manager: Rashid ABBAS - Male – born February 15, 1987 (age 59)
Formerly a star player in the island country of Faraby, now an associated state of Adab, Abbas now finally finds himself sole assistant manager to Saad Kaykali. He is determined to do his best in this capacity, all the while refusing to discuss rumors that he has greater aspirations. Currently also manager of the under-21 team.

General coach: Yitzhak BENNETT - Male – born September 20, 1976 (age 69)
Variously described as quiet, active, calm, and attentive, Bennett is very much respected by the players, who admire his work ethic, loyalty to the national team, and willingness to listen to them.

Goalkeeping coach: Faishal AR-RASHID - Male – born August 14, 1978 (age 67)
Regarded, much like Bennett, as a stabilizing influence in the national team and respected by staff and players alike.

Physio: Hamza RIDHA - Male – born January 15, 1983 (age 63)
A longtime friend of Kaykali. Widely respected by fellow staff and players for the understated way by which he performs his job.

PLAYERS
Note: I may reveal the starting lineup and substitutes for the next match(es) in my RPs. Should I not RP or should my RP not contain any information regarding the starting lineup and substitutes, then feel free to decide my lineup. Also feel free to make substitutions. (As a rule of thumb, the first 11 players listed here are the usual starters, but this is not always the case.)

GK: 1 – Satchit CHANDRASEKAR – Male – born February 7, 2015 (age 31) – Colonial Sile (Vilita) – 0 goals
Chandrasekar has now firmly established himself as Adab’s best keeper and, if everything goes right, looks set to retain that status for many years to come. His calm, steady demeanor serves him well as the last line of defense against the team’s opponents.

LB: 2 – Tansu ALTUN - Female – born February 25, 2009 (age 37) - Mosul - 0 goals
Fondly called the "heart of the squad" by her teammates. Kind, polite, smiling, beautiful inside and out, she gets along easily with all the staff and players. Yet her soft exterior hides a hard, relentless, unyielding side to her, which shines through every time she is called to perform on the pitch.

CB: 3 – Shania ENMERKAR - Female – born January 20, 2008 (age 38) - Baghdad City - 3 goals (Vice Captain)
Widely seen as one of the leaders of the “female wave” in Adabian football, observers nevertheless agree that Enmerkar has earned her place in the team by merit, rather than merely by virtue of her gender. The other female players in the squad look up to her as their leader and spokeswoman, and it is she who often goes to Kaykali to communicate the women’s concerns and opinions.

CB: 15 – Sarrugi AKSHAK – Male – born May 29, 2016 (age 30) – Lonngeylin Coast (Vilita) – 0 goals
Made headlines with his unexpected transfer to the Vilitan League, although he has more than proven himself as a capable defender at the Under-18 and Under-21 World Cups. Now Yousif Issou’s international retirement has guaranteed him a place in the starting lineup and he is more than determined to impress.

RB: 5 – Sally THOMAS – Female – born October 5, 2015 (age 30) – Beirut – 0 goals
An instrumental member of the Di Bradini Cup 51 squad, Thomas’ continued good performance with Beirut in the Premier League has earned her an upgrade from the benches to the starting lineup in the national team.

LM: 6 – Emma ARTHUR - Female – born November 18, 2012 (age 33) - Tihon (Chromatika) - 13 goals
A representative of the Anglo-Adabian community, the second-youngest member of the squad. Widely seen as a young prodigy before maturing into one of Adab’s best midfielders. Estranged from her family, traumatized and haunted by what had happened to her and Alulim Sinmuballit, she picked herself up and has impressed many with her performance with Tihon in Chromatika.

CM: 7 – Alulim SINMUBALLIT - Male – born September 15, 2013 (age 32) – Mipojoseon (Quebec and Shingoryeo) - 12 goals
The erstwhile baby prodigy of the squad is now older and much-changed from those halcyon days when he and Emma Arthur were lighting up the midfield and causing controversy with their interfaith relationship off the pitch. Since then… a lot have changed, to put it lightly, but one thing is certain: Sinmuballit is determined to prove he still has a place in the national team.

RM: 19 – Amara EMMITA – Female – born January 19, 2016 (age 30) – Baghdad United – 11 goals
Easily runs circles around her opponents with her slick, graceful style of play. With Ephraim Orlev now in his forties and on the verge of retirement, Emmita has found her way to the starting lineup, providing a fresh reinforcement in the midfield to accompany the likes of Emma Arthur and Alulim Sinmuballit.

LAM/LW: 22 – Kastiliasu AKAPTAHA – Male – born March 27, 2014 (age 32) – Baghdad City – 97 goals
Already widely acclaimed as one of the finest strikers in Adabian football, Akaptaha is expected to lead the offense for many years to come, standing at the forefront the regeneration of the national team as the venerable Enlilbani Yargab enters his forties.

RAM/RW: 10 – Rebekah YISSAKAR - Female – born January 20, 2013 (age 33) - Adab United – 85 goals
Brash, funny, happy-go-lucky, all those words have been used to describe Rebekah Yissakar, but do not let her bubbly, excitable personality distract you from the fact that she is one of Adabian football’s best talents, with a deadly finishing touch that secured her a place at the front three along with the great Enlilbani Yargab and the energetic Kastiliasu Akaptaha.

CF: 11 – Enlilbani YARGAB - Male – born April 21, 1999 (age 47) - Baghdad City – 171 goals (Captain)
Now rapidly approaching his fifties – beyond which he has repeatedly claimed he would not continue playing – Yargab is no longer the threat that he once was, the older striker playing fewer minutes than in previous tournaments before being substituted for Nadje Barzani. With Akaptaha now deployed on the wing, Kaykali now increasingly rotates Yargab and Barzani, if not playing Barzani for entire matches; Yargab understands that the younger players such as Akaptaha and Barzani adapt more easily to the gegenpressing tactics. That Yargab is now slower and more stationary than he used to be is obvious. Nevertheless he still excels in short bursts, conserving his energy for the most pivotal moments of the match and ensuring he remains an important presence in what should be the final years of his career.

GK: 12 – Akurgal SHULGI – Male – born May 15, 2017 (age 29) – Damascus Steelers – 0 goals
Formidable young keeper whose adept, acrobatic defending dragged Adab to the final of the 14th Under-18 World Cup in Xanneria and Starcom.

LB: 13 – Adnan AL-TIKRITI – Male – born July 20, 2015 (age 30) – Damascus Steelers – 0 goals
Dogged defender who brought Adab to the final of the Di Bradini Cup 51. Flies under the radar publicity-wise but prefers to let his achievements on the pitch speak for themselves.

CB: 4 – George HADAD – Male – born February 14, 2005 (age 41) – Assur – 2 goals
Assur’s impressive performance in the Premier League lately has earned its loyal center-back a call-up to the national team, which just a few years ago no one – including the man himself – would have expected. But Hadad is nonetheless glad for this new experience so late into his career, even if he doesn’t see himself being played that much.

RB: 16 – Nadia AL-MALIKI – Female – born October 15, 2011 (age 34) – Baghdad United – 0 goals
Baghdad United’s surprisingly strong performance in the Premier League earned her a call-up to the national team. Al-Maliki’s composure in defense has been widely praised and regarded as an instrumental part in United’s unexpected domestic success.

LM: 17 – Said ANWAR – Male – born April 5, 2014 (age 32) – Beirut – 0 goals
A highlight of Beirut’s rise to the top of the Premier League, Said has now earned himself a call-up to the national team. While he is unlikely to displace Emma Arthur in the pecking order, his presence nevertheless provides a reliable backup should it become necessary for Arthur to be substituted or rotated.

CM: 18 – Naram-Sin SAMANU – Male – born March 29, 2018 (age 28) – Baghdad United – 3 goals
Commands a huge presence at midfield. Alulim Sinmuballit’s return has largely relegated Samanu once again to the benches, but with the staff afraid of overplaying the latter it seems that they will settle on a rotation between Sinmuballit and Samanu, allowing both players roughly equal time on the pitch.

CM: 26 - Kayla KASSAYA - Female - born April 14, 2016 (age 30) - Crossroads (Chromatika) - 0 goals
A late call-up to the national team, Kassaya has impressed with Crossroads in Chromatika's Red League, becoming an integral part of the side and more than justifying their faith in her. The national team's heavy workload has convinced Saad Kaykali and his staff that they need another midfielder and Kassaya is the obvious choice. While primarily a central midfielder, she is a versatile player who can also be deployed as a left and right midfielder, and even in a more advanced role as a winger in emergency situations.

RM: 8 – Ephraim ORLEV - Male – born April 18, 1999 (age 47) – Mosul – 9 goals
That Orlev’s supposed retirement has been constantly delayed is the subject of many a joke in Adab nowadays. But on his good days he is still one of the country’s best – and toughest, not to mention most experienced – midfielders, and his presence is highly valued in the locker room.

LAM/LW: 20 – Dasia KHOURY – Female – born September 15, 2017 (age 28) – Baghdad City – 2 goals
One of Adab’s breakout stars from the Di Bradini Cup 53, Khoury has settled into a starting role at Baghdad City, playing a key part as the great team tries to restore themselves back to the top of the Adabian football world. Her performance continues to impress, convincing Kaykali to call her up to the senior national team.

RAM/RW: 21 – Abdullah SARSUR – Male – born June 11, 2007 (age 29) – Yerushalayim – 0 goals
Yerushalayim’s rise to the upper echelons of the league has brought attention upon its right attacking midfielder/winger Abdullah Sarsur. Brave, unrelenting, and tricky at times, he will provide a reliable addition to the national team.

RAM/RW: 25 – Omar ABBAS – Male – born January 15, 2018 (age 28) – Mosul – 0 goals
Like Khoury he is one of Adab’s players from the Di Bradini Cup 53 that stood out the most, earning legions of fans with his speed and deadly accurate crosses, exuberant attitude on and off the pitch, and unstinting commitment to his profession.

LAM/LW: 9 – Hakim AL-AMIN - Male – born March 27, 2009 (age 37) - Damascus Steelers – 25 goals
With Jushur al-Kufa bowing out of the national team, his Damascus Steelers teammate Hakim al-Amin has been chosen to take his place – albeit it is usually a place on the benches. Al-Amin is one of Adabian football’s best strikers, gaining acclaim for his power, agility, finishing, and calmness under pressure. Everyone agrees he would have found a place in the starting lineup had it not been for the fact that the national team is already overfilled with younger talent at the front.

CF: 23 – Nadje BARZANI – Female – born March 14, 2017 (age 29) – Beirut – 54 goals
Barzani has made a name for herself as one of the Premier League’s best players and one of its most explosive forwards, alongside Kastiliasu Akaptaha, and is making an impact in the national team in a rotation with the seemingly ageless Enlilbani Yargab. But time waits for no one, and as Yargab rapidly approaches his fifties the indication seems to be that Barzani will soon have her spot to herself.

STADIUM
Image

Adab City Stadium, the pride and joy of Adabian football, was completed in 1940. Located in the northern part of Adab City, the stadium was able to accommodate 40,000 people at the time of its opening. Renovations in 1978 made it an all-seater stadium and expanded its capacity to 55,350. Later it increased to 75,000 following upgrades in 2009-10 and then 76,500 after another upgrade in 2019. It is currently home to the Adabian national football team and Adab City FC.

TACTICS AND FORMATION
The team will use 4-3-2-1, the "Christmas tree" formation, with an emphasis on gegenpressing – immediately working to take back possession after losing the ball and launching a quick counterattack before the opponent can take the initiative. Any opposition players with the ball will find themselves swarmed and cut off quickly. The orientation towards gegenpressing has been offered as evidence of Rashid Abbas’ increasing influence as he seeks to modernize the team in his capacity as assistant manager.

Goalkeeper Satchit Chandrasekar is secure in his position as first-choice senior team keeper. Shania Enmerkar finds herself leading the defense, her limitless energy and tenacity – which she has demonstrated both on and off the pitch – making her particularly suited for this role.

At midfield, Emma Arthur finds herself paired up with Alulim Sinmuballit and Amara Emmita. Their agility and teamwork allow them increased coverage of the pitch and domination of possession, which they skillfully use to quickly transfer the ball away from the opposing team and to the attacking trio of Kastiliasu Akaptaha, Rebekah Yissakar, and the great Enlilbani Yargab. At age 47, the country’s greatest player now largely avoids ostentatious displays of acrobatics and dribbling skills which marked his younger days in favor of simple runs towards the penalty box. In a further concession to his advancing age, Yargab is now increasingly substituted or even not played at all from time to time in favor of Barzani. Yargab or Barzani will occasionally drop back to serve as a false nine, leaving a hole in the opposition defense to be exploited by the wingers and attacking midfielders.

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

The sun is nearly set in the capital, Asakote. A tall man in his late 40's is standing in a room which looks like an office. He's over looking through the window while his left hand is playing with his cellphone. He swirl his phone while killing the time. He is definitely waiting for something. He exhale deeply. The waiting have succumb him. His hand stop as he look at the watch on his wrist. It's nearly 7 pm. The knock on the door makes him alert but in a good way. He left out a smile at the edge of his lips as he let the knocker comes in.
"The car is ready, Sir, " said the person who's knocking on the door earlier.
He only nod a little as he walks toward the door.
"Has the Golden Deer left the best?" the man ask with a code. The Golden Deer is referring to the President.
"Yes, Sir. He's on his way to the location," answer the guest.
"Alright."

A little under 15 minutes, the car arrives at the hotel's ballroom. The man walkout from the car and escorted to a special room. The man is none other than Khusni Asmawi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Toluiwa.
"Has all the delegates arrives?" he ask his secretary as they arrive in the room.
"Only one left, Sir, " answer the secretary. Asmawi glance at her while he being handed the draft of tonight's event. "It's Rarungani delegation who's not attending, Sir, " she continue.
Asmawi suddenly stop. He frowned. Rarungan is Toluiwa's largest support in tonight's event and they are the one who's not attending? Asmawi gets suspicious.
"Have they made any contact?" he ask.
"No, Sir, " the secretary answer shortly.
Asmawi look at her with a serious look. "Get information from them. This event is our plan. Us and the Rarungani government. It should be a great reason for them to not attending," he commanding.
"Yes, Sir."
"Now let's meet the President."

The gala dinner which open the extraordinary meeting of the members of The Mandaran Council ended gracefully. All of the delegations seems to satisfy with the feast. But starting tomorrow, everything will turn into a serious mode.

"I can't seems to notice their interest, Mr. President," said Asmawi as he together with the President, Abdul Qadari have a private meeting.
"Patient, Asmawi. They don't know anything yet. Tomorrow we will tell them about our plan," answer President Qadari who's seating leisurely.
"Truthfully, Sir. I'm not very confident with our plan. Uniting 8 countries with different background. It's a hard task," Asmawi second guessing the plan.
"We'll never know until we try," said Qadari while sipping his black coffee.

A few minutes later, Asmawi is in his car on his way to his home. Tomorrow will be a big day as the President will address the plan to enact and speed up the unification process of the countries within the Mandaran Council. Hhmm...I wonder what will happen Asmawi talk to himself. The car drives slowly on the empty road of Asakote. The road that brings Asmawi home.

Chapter 76: The Way It Is

November 13, 2036
Saad Kaykali’s house
Adab City

He sat alone there at the dining table, no one else with him, the chandelier illuminating what a few minutes earlier had been a dark, silent room. His eyes were vacant and emotionless, casting an empty view at the expanse in front of him, all the way to the door at the end of the room. The housekeepers Walid and Nehemiah had to be asleep themselves, Saad figured. Not a surprise at this late hour.

His fingers clicked absentmindedly on the table, nothing but memories to accompany him. He had set his phone on the mahogany surface, not very close, but still close enough for him to reach over and change the song he wanted to play. The last half-minute or so he had spent scrolling through the list of online songs at his disposal, a far cry from his long-gone youth when he had to set up a whole CD player or listen to whatever they were playing on the radio.

For years a leader, a manager, now he was about to be stripped of his post, deprived of his office – or so he sensed. No matter – it would only make official what had been true in practice for some time now. There was no one left to lead, no one to coach, because the current of events had swept everyone away and changed the trajectory of the national team. Depending on how things played out, not only would Saad no longer be manager, his players might no longer even be players themselves at the end of the day.

Ooh, baby, do you know what that’s worth? Retirement wouldn’t be so bad, Saad concluded, though it’s a shame he couldn’t end his career on better terms.

Ooh, heaven is a place on Earth. He looked at the singer’s name on the phone. Belinda Carlisle, right. Memories of 1987 and all that, when he was just a kid, playing football in the academy and on the streets. So long ago.

They say in heaven- And then he heard a gentle knock-knock as the door inched upon. He sprang to his feet at this unanticipated event, pausing the song as Nehemiah’s head appeared behind the half-opened door. “Mr. Kaykali? Ah, sir, there is Mr. Abbas outside. He just came. Should I let him inside?”

“Mr. Abbas? Rashid?” What is going on here? To say that he had a good feeling about this would be a lie. “Yeah, of course, tell him to come inside.” Instinctively he raised his hand to tidy his hair; if this was going to be about something important, he better appear as good as possible at this hour.

When I saw that plane on the screen, I know things had… changed irrevocably,” Rashid reflected, head slightly bowed, clicking his fingers on the table in much the same absentminded way as Saad earlier. The older man could sense the worry in Rashid’s eyes, and in his darkened face. “There is no going back from this.”

“No,” Saad simply agreed.

Rashid’s lips were shut as he moved his jaw side to side. His head suddenly jerked up bringing himself face-to-face with Saad. “Do you have tea, Mr. Kaykali?”

“Of course, sure,” Saad pushed himself backwards on his chair and started to rise. “I’ll get Nehe-“

“Wait, wait, no, no, it’s fine,” Rashid raised his hand to cancel the request, signaling for Saad to return to his seat. Rashid’s eyes were as open as they were since he arrived here, penetrating directly into Saad’s. “Mr. Kaykali, I will tell you this: I am on the players’ side. I do not intend to actually work for that bastard Araqasdah-“

“But you accepted his offer.”

“I need to keep myself close to him. The players are fighting from the outside; I will be fighting from the inside – and no, let me speak for now, sir,” he raised his hand again as soon as Kaykali started to open his mouth. Now he leaned across the table, closer to Saad. His eyes, Saad noticed, were now more tender. Begging, even.

“And I need you, Mr. Kaykali. We need you.”

At that moment he knew; this was what the meeting was about. “Rashid, I just- I just don’t know. I feel like I’ve-“

“With all due respect, Mr. Kaykali, this is not the time to rise above the fray. And if I may say so, I believe I know you at least a little bit, sir. I know you to be a great, decent man, respected by everyone and rightly so. And I know that you hate Araqasdah, and I hate Araqasdah too. We are all on the same side. Everyone looks to up. We all need you, Mr. Kaykali.”

“To be what?” Saad countered, finding a sudden fire in him. “You will be the manager. The players will not accept Araqasdah’s demands. He will fire them no matter what, replace them with new players. The city will riot, will burn, and no matter what happens or who wins there is no place for me. I am finished, Rashid. I am old news-“

“That is not true!” Rashid raised his voice, not out of anger, but pleading. “Araqasdah and the Imperial Palace severely underestimate his and the AFA’s unpopularity. No one who actually loves football in this country will take his side. And in the end this is no longer just about football, or about Arthur and Sinmuballit. Tabira has turned this into a… class war, political struggle, whatever it is!” He leaned even closer to Saad, the tip of his nose almost brushing his. “This is a struggle of justice against injustice, right against wrong. I’m just one person, but I think I’m agreeing with a large portion of this godforsaken country when I say Mr. Kaykali, please, you must be with us. You must lead us. When all this is over, you will be our manager, my manager. The way things have always been.”

No words came from Saad’s hardened face, and Rashid had run out of words. The younger man withdrew to his seat, leaving Saad to lean back on his own chair, each man motionless for a while, until Saad finally found his words again. “If you are sure Araqasdah is bound to fail, then why did you agree to be the manager?”

Rashid gave him a little nod, then glanced back briefly at the door to make sure it was closed. “That,” he turned again to face Saad, “is what I’ve come here to tell you.”
