At the very least it should list the players on your team and a home field for your team to play home games at. Additional coaching staff, player details, and any other info that could be useful for your opponents' RPs can be included.

It's highly recommended you include a permissions box that gives your groupmates guidelines for how to roleplay your matches. Remember that though basketball doesn't have a style modifier, including one can give your opponent a clue as to how to RP. A sample permissions box is provided below:

Code: Select all
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my scorers:
Godmod scoring events:

WELCOME TO SOUTH NEWLANDIA

In a nutshell
South Newlandia is a small Esportivan island with about four million inhabitants, located approximately between the Nova Anglican Admin Zone of Esportiva, Tumbra, and Lisander. South Newlandia is known for democracy, elephants, regulated capitalism and environmentalism, and the friendly population, happy to help you out if you run into any problems.

Overview
In general, you can divide South Newlandia into a Southern and a Northern Part, each consisting of five general areas. You can reach a few of those directly with an airplane, via the airports in Elephant Valley, Walstreim and Newport, but for most of the areas, you will have to take an additional ship or train, or a bus. Fortunately for you, public transport is almost free in South Newlandia, while renting a car can be more expensive.

Your stay at the International Basketball Championships
South Newlandia is a very small country. Therefore, expect that for the average fan, getting a hotel room on short notice will be difficult, and tickets will definitely be in short supply. Remember that re-selling tickets for more than the original price is banned in South Newlandia, so if you see someone ripping people off, alert the authorities by dialling or texting 123.
Even if you can’t get a place in the stadiums (tickets will be divided 40%/40% between the two participating nations, with 20% being available to everyone else), that isn’t that big of a deal. In many spots around the country, opportunities to watch the games on a big screen, often outside, with hundreds or thousands of other fans. The atmosphere at those events is often almost as great as being in the stadium, and in many places, it’s completely free of charge.
If you need any help or assistance with anything, feel free to ask the populace for help. South Newlandians are known to be eager to help, as long as you follow a few basic rules, such as not being an embarrassment for everyone and not being a pain on purpose. If you fail to clear this smallest of hurdles, you probably won’t have much luck getting help from the general public, but you can still get help by texting or dialling 321, where people are paid to deal with you. You can use this number to get all kinds of help and get answers to your questions.

Rules and Laws
If you plan to visit South Newlandia, there are a few things you should be aware of beforehand. Laws on imported goods are rather strict, and things you’d expect to not be allowed to take into other countries are usually banned in South Newlandia as well. Examples for this include dead animals, living people unwilling to enter and bombs of any kind. The same regulations will also apply if you go to leave the country again.
Special note should be made of South Newlandian drug laws. While all drugs, and this means all drugs, including alcohol and tobacco; are decriminalized in South Newlandia; this does not mean you are allowed to deal drugs. Selling or giving away drugs for any reason is strictly banned; this includes, again, alcohol and tobacco. However, you are allowed to take any drugs you want to without punishment, and are allowed to own any that are only for your own consumption. You are probably going to be treated like an addicted person though, so people might attempt to get you professional help to fight the addiction they perceive you to have. This is rare; most people are aware that different customs exist in other countries. In short, you are allowed to take any drugs into South Newlandia as long as you can convince officials that you aren’t addicted to them and do not intent to sell them.
Bribing South Newlandian officials is basically impossible; border control is a very well-paid job in South Newlandia. Otherwise, the South Newlandian legal system is similar to the legal systems of most other civilised places; with the exception that jails and prisons have been outlawed a few years ago.

Travel
Getting around inside South Newlandia isn’t a huge problem, it is often more difficult to arrive in the first place. That’s the case with all islands, but South Newlandia has rather few flights and ships exiting and entering, mostly because of environmental regulations. If you do arrive in South Newlandia, you are likely near the coast or even on an island now; your options are Elephant Valley, Newport, Walstreim, Kinjestad or Ineton.
When you arrive, the probably best options are the multiple high-speed trains that can get you almost everywhere in the country fairly quickly. Unless you want to go to a really remote place, you can probably expect your journey to your destination to take two hours at the very most. If you want to connect between two of the big cities, like from Walstreim to Ratzupalfu, you can expect it to be even quicker. If you don’t like trains, for some reason, there are also busses and cars to rent, but the streets aren’t always in perfect condition, and are far less convenient, to be honest.
Flights inland are banned in South Newlandia. If you want to be mobile within a city, you can rent bikes for free, or you can take the underground if you are in a bigger city and the bus if the city is smaller. There are also busses and rental cars in the bigger cities, but unless you really need to, we wouldn’t advise you to use them. The bus is slower than the underground, and the underground gets you pretty much everywhere within a city. Cars can get very inconvenient because they are banned in many areas, and where they aren’t, there are rarely any parking spots. Seriously, don’t try to drive a car in South Newlandia. Most of the citizens don’t either; a lot of them don’t even have a license.

Weather
The climate typically stays the same in South Newlandia throughout most of the year, with moderate winters and warm summers. In the places where games are hosted, temperatures around 15-25°C can be expected, and although it may rain a bit, there are no big storms forecast during the duration of the Tournaments. Weather extremes of all kinds are rare, too; don’t expect any windstorms or floods or anything like that.

Animals
There are some wild animals in South Newlandia, but they will generally don’t disturb you if you don’t disturb them. Basically, just stay on the outlined paths in the forest and don’t do anything to anger animals, and you’ll be fine. Most of South Newlandias wild animals are friendly, like the elephants, for example; in the unlikely event that you meet a bear, probably the most dangerous animal you could meet in South Newlandia, in the woods, you should follow standard bear safety guidelines. In any emergency, you can call or text the number 123 to get immediate help, or the number 321 if you just need less urgent, but still important advice.

Host Cities and their stadiums
Image

Elephant Valley

General
Elephant Valley, the capital of South Newlandia, makes up about an eighth of the country’s population. The city has relatively few skyscrapers, but is built over a large area instead. The city used to be more industrial, but is mostly focusing on providing entertainment for the rest of the country; most of the biggest media outlets, like the “Elephant Valley Mail” or “South Newlandia One” are having their headquarters here, but there is also a lot of other IT-related industry here. Elephant Valley is relevant for just about every sport.

Sports
Elephant Valley is the centre of South Newlandian sports. They had two elite soccer teams between Elephant Valley FC and the Valley Wanderers, still have two elite baseball teams in the Homers and United, playing in Llamaphant Pro Baseball, and are also the host of most South Newlandian home games in baseball and soccer. Additionally, Gridiron football is bigger nowhere than in Elephant Valley, home of the national team and the NSCF team Elephant Valley University Red Elephants.

Other attractions
Other than sports, Elephant Valley is by all accounts the heart of South Newlandian politics and culture. The South Newlandian government, a common sight to visit, is here, as well as some parts of the administration of the Esportivan Union. Elephant Valley also has multiple large universities, with the Elephant Valley Science Institute and Elephant Valley Sports College next to the aforementioned EVU. Other sights to visit in Elephant Valley include the biggest water park in the nation, as well as a massive statue of an Elephant painted in the colours of South Newlandia.

The people
Like in most of South Newlandia, many inhabitants of Elephant Valley are immigrants either in first, second, or third generation, creating a melting pot of all kinds of different cultures. In recent years, other cities have surpassed the growth rate of Elephant Valley, which has caused a once rapidly shifting city to settle down a bit.

Weather forecast:
Temperature: about 19°C
Chance of rain: medium (~35% on any given day)

Stadiums:
Elephant Multiplex (12,000)
The brand-new all-purpose Multiplex is the biggest pure indoor sports arena in South Newlandia, constructed in large parts for the IBC, although it will be used for other sports and events as well. Expect all the newest bells and whistles, but do not expect cheap tickets.
Round of 24
2x Round of 16
Quarterfinal
IBC34 Championship

Elephant Valley Superhall (6,000)
The Superhall, located near the centre of the city, was built for the Esportivan Sporting Festival just about a year and a half ago, and hosted the final of the Esportivan Basketball Trophy. It’s similar, although way smaller, to the Multiplex.
Round of 24
Round of 16
Quarterfinal
Third Place Playoff

New Colk

General
New Colk is located on the Elephant Island only just off of the coast, but already technically in the Strele Channel separating South Newlandia and Tumbra. New Colk, having a population of roughly 40,000, has a large Grearish population. Although many of them have assimilated with the South Newlandians into one, many Grearish influences remain today, and that is making this city extremely special. Because of this, New Colk is also the city with the strongest cricket presence in South Newlandia.

Sports
The Kinetik Islanders used to take the SNSL by storm, but since then, it has been a bit quieter around sports in New Colk. Recent developments suggest they’re looking to lure a baseball team into the city; and teams from here dominate the small cricket league of South Newlandia.

Other attractions
As mentioned earlier, New Colk has many Grearish influences. This includes rare wildlife, such as the yellow-billed kingfisher and Grearish harrier, as well as, in extremely rare circumstances, black dolphins being sighted from the Island. Other than that, Grearish support, including through the energy drink company ‘Kinetik’, has given the city a massive boost. Among the host cities, New Colk also has the nicest beaches to visit; like every South Newlandian beach, they are subject to strong environmental regulations.

The people
Grearish folks are some of the nicest people you could ever meet, and that is reflected in New Colk.

Weather forecast:
Temperature: about 21°C
Chance of rain: medium-high (~45% on any given day)

Stadiums:

Kinetik Arena (5,500)
Thanks to sponsoring from the well-known Grearish energy drink brand, New Colk was able to construct a brand-new basketball arena for the IBC. The stadium puts on display the friendship between the nations of South Newlandia and The Grearish Union.
2x Round of 24
Round of 16
Semi-Finals

Newport

General
Newport is located on the East coast of South Newlandia, and is the second-biggest city of the country at about 330,000 citizens. It used to be a very industrial city, named after the port that is the biggest in the country today. If anything is getting shipped to South Newlandia, odds are, it arrives in Newport first. In recent years, Newport has been the fastest growing city in the country, as job prospects have quickly attracted people from around South Newlandia and the multiverse.

Sports
Newport has always been an important city for South Newlandian sports. Before the end of SNSL, there were two strong football teams here, Jecken Newport, and Newport United. Newport also has a strong baseball presence, with the Newport Owls and Newport Dolphins in Llamaphant Pro Baseball, and plays a role in various other sports. Additionally, Newport played host to the first three Elephant Chess Cups, the third of which is currently ongoing. (or not, depending on what is more useful for you :) )

Other attractions
Newport has basically everything you’d expect a city to have, including food from around the multiverse, malls, and everything else. Two of the most well-known attractions of Newport are the East-Newport minigolf course, considered the best in the country, and suitable for all ages and skill levels; and the Newport Cineplex, one of the biggest cinemas in the nation, featuring all the currently relevant movies and blockbusters. If you’re more interested in culture, you can visit the highest court of law here, or the Newport College for International Relations, or the Newport Law School, or the Newport Politics Institute…

The people
The citizens of Newport are relatively normal for being South Newlandian, friendly, and commonly welcoming toward foreigners. Of course, many citizens of Newport are immigrants themselves, moving to South Newlandia for job prospects or whatever else. They do have a reputation for being a little bit less open than South Newlandians from other places, but that’s mostly a myth.

Weather forecast:
Temperature: about 15°C
Chance of rain: medium-low (~20% on any given day)

Stadiums:

Stadium against the Tumbran Invasion of the Northlands (4,000)
With this stadium, the South Newlandian government took a strong stance against the ruthless Tumbran invasion of the Northlands. To the surprise of everyone, that has not actually stopped the invasion.
Round of 24
Round of 16
Quarterfinals

Ratzupalfu

General
Ratzupalfu, with a population of 175,000, located near the center of South Newlandia, was always a city trying to work with nature instead of against it, and it works out fairly well for them. The city is surrounded by jungle, with wild animals often not far away, and it will be your best bet if you want to see wild Elephants. Ratzupalfu is located at the edge of the South Newlandian jungle, encompassing most of the central portion of South Newlandia.

Sports
The Ratzupalfu Rhinos used to be a strong South Newlandian soccer team, and although they lost their baseball team due to the reduction through Llamaphant Pro Baseball, they are set to regain new life with the Ratzupalfu University of Nature Egrets set to start playing in NS College Football. On top of that, Ratzupalfu is the team usually on top in South Newlandian basketball as well.

Other attractions
Other attractions, beside the jungle and the animals, include the aforementioned Ratzupalfu University of Nature, as well as many sources of information about South Newlandian wildlife, including the two biggest museums of South Newlandia.

The people
People from Ratzupalfu are more nature- and animal loving than any other in South Newlandia, and are going to tell you about their pets, and want to know about yours. People from here are willing to work together with nature, giving back more than they take.

Weather forecast:
Temperature: about 23°C
Chance of rain: very high (~75% on any given day)

Stadiums:

Jungle Stadium (4,500)
This South Newlandian basketball court is located in a hall that is, otherwise, almost completely surrounded by the wilderness. This can lead to stunning pictures; it is not uncommon for wildlife to be seen outside the large windows.

Round of 24
2x Round of 16
Quarterfinals

Walstreim

General
Walstreim is located on the very South coast of South Newlandia. You probably recognise the name from the club team, but more on that in a bit. Walstreim, one of the drier cities in the nation, has been very industrial in the past, and is widely considered to be the home of South Newlandin football. Having more than 200,000 people, it is the third-biggest city in South Newlandia, behind Elephant Valley and Newport, and that’s largely what it is thought of. Most of the important stuff is in one of those two nations, but there are many important things here as well.

Sports
The Walstreim Lions, home of South Newlandian sports, won the last four SNSL titles, and took the footballing multiverse for a ride when they qualified for the Ro16 of the Champions League on the first venture of South Newlandia into domestic sports. Their youth team later won the Rising Stars Cup, and the Lions also have won a CEdC. There’s also a decent baseball team in Walstreim, the Stingrays. Despite typically being the game of the North, baseball is surprisingly popular down here.

Other attractions
Walstreim, although not the most interesting city, still has a couple of interesting things to visit, such as the largest mall in South Newlandia and a very interesting museum about marine life, or Walstreim Business University.

The people
People from here are honestly rather boring until you get to know them better, which is usually worth it. Also, people are crazy about football here.

Weather forecast:
Temperature: about 25°C
Chance of rain: low (~15% on any given day)

Stadiums:

Walstreim Arena (6,969)
The Walstreim Arena used to be a large warehouse years ago that fell out of use, and was recycled in an expensive effort into a multi-use hall, including being useful for basketball.

Special Note: Nothing regarding COVID, a pandemic, or anything of the sort will be acknowledged. There is no COVID in Ranoria, just like there is no war in Ba Sing Se!

Seriously though, don't be afraid to shoot me a ping if you've got an idea for anything in here!

Here Come The Krauts!

Quick Facts
Image
Head Coach Billy Garrett

Team "Sucess": 7-9
Points For/Against: 1171/1247
Competitions: IBC 32
Head Coach: Billy Garrett, 53 years old

Home court: RANPAC Arena, Ranoria City, Ranoria
Capacity: 18,750
Location: Ranoria City
Demonym: Ranorian

Captains: Reiner Anneliese, Bellator Miller
Best All Round: Reiner Anneliese
Best 3-Point: Daniele Eveline
Best Defender: Julian Viola
After a brief hiatus, the Ranorian Krauts are back and ready for action. The team debuted and managed to not embarrass themselves in IBC 32 after finding an identity on the back of backup Bertolt Hali's mantra: "Defense is for nerds."

Veteran Reiner Anneliese is still the best player on this squad and is more than capable of being a problem at every level of the game. He's in his prime and more than talented enough to at least compete with just about anyone, but he's got some help. Rookie center Alexander Edith is an emerging force domestically, but two other players have really caught the eye of those here at home in Julian Viola and Daniele Eveline. Viola is a new-school power forward, versatile, fast, and capable of contributing on offense while Eveline proved to be lethal in college as a human highlight reel. Both are expected to play abroad in Quebec now that they've left the college ranks.

In terms of other returners, Billy Garrett is of course back as the head coach, nobody else has the audacity to think they can turn this dumpster fire around, and versatile forward Bellator Miller is still slotting in at his position. Dirk Chandler has taken a backseat to the younger Ophelia Carter at power forward as well. And of course the voice of this team's philosophy, Bertolt Hali, is still on the roster...somehow.

Stadium Info: RANPAC Arena, Ranoria City, Ranoria
Capacity: 18,750

A cozy arena located in the largest city (but not the capitol!) of Ranoria, RANPAC arena will serve as the venue for the Krauts for the second consecutive edition that they've participated in.

The surrounding city is thriving with Quebecois-influenced nightlife, restaurants claiming to serve "Banijan" foods, as well as other attractions in Ranoria's largest city. Visitors should keep in mind that while marijuana and alcohol are legal, tobacco and other recreational drugs are not. Not to worry, most offenses regarding such substances will result in nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

Overall - it's worth planning a weekend getaway rather than just a trip to the big game, but either way you'll leave satisfied!

Center: Julian Viola
Age: 20 years
Height: 6'7"
Weight: 230
Best Attribute: Defense

Julian Viola has never played a minute of professional basketball, but he was a stud in his collegiate days and beat out the more experienced Alexander Edith for the starting role. Viola's size and speed create matchup problems with typically larger centers, and he's able to contribute offensively. Averaged 10+ rebounds, 16.6 points, and 2.3 steals per game in his final year of school. Viola's penciled in for the QBL draft as a solid defender, but his first taste of professional basketball will come in the IBC.

Power Forward: Ophelia Carter
Age: 23 years
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 235
Best Attribute: 3-Point Shooting

Carter is one of the more exciting youngsters in Ranoria right now, coming off her first all-star campaign. She's a true threat as a shooter from everywhere and can come down with a good amount of boards defensively. Tendency to have hot and cold streaks - she can put up a ton of points in a hurry or brick away one too many possessions depending on momentum.

Small Forward: Bellator Miller
Age: 29
Height: 6'7"
Weight: 240
Best Attribute: Versatile

Miller's the oldest starter on the lineup and a true veteran. Good defender who's mostly going to try and score inside the paint but is willing and able to pull back for a mid range or perimeter shot if it's open. He's likely not going to wow anyone with his play but he's rarely a liability.

Shooting Guard: Reiner Anneliese
Age: 28
Height: 6'7"
Weight: 235
Best Attribute: Versatile

While it should be noted that he is by no means the best player in this competition or even in that conversation, Anneliese is one of the best to ever come out of Ranoria and can dominate in every phase of the game. Whether it's distributing the ball to open teammates, slowing down elite scorers, or racking up points, Anneliese is the engine that drives this team and he's capable of competing with anyone in the world. If the Krauts are going to pull off a successful run, it'll be on his back.

Point Guard: Daniele Eveline
Age: 19
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 180
Best Attribute: 3-Point Shooting

Daniele Eveline's the best shooter on the squad. If she's left open, she's money from even deep outside the three point line. Decent enough ball handling to occasionally get herself open, but generally needs a good distributor to really take advantage of her capabilities. Eveline's dedicated to improving, and smart to boot. She graduated high school at 16 years old with an associate's degree and zipped through collegiate basketball while showing an outstanding growth curve. Can she keep that up against the best competition the world can offer?

The Peregrine Falcons did not compete in WBC 33 due to war in their home nation, but their showing at IBC 32 has fans excited. The team started a miserable 1-7 before ending on a 6-2 streak, including a win over then-world #39 Mytanija. Even though the Falcons finished 7-9 and did not exit the group stage, the team still is hyped and excited for this tournament. The team hopes to at least make the knockout stage, and that is what they will train and play to do.

INTERNATIONAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 34

NEW CAMPAIGN FOR OUR BASKETBALL AT IBC 34
BY
Danijel Grlić

We are back on the world basketball scene. We are hoping that the return will be in great style. This is the third IBC for the Srednjaci. At the first international basketball competition IBC 31, we finished in 26th place. Even then we saw that we have talented players for great results.

SILVER MEDAL AT IBC 32

In our second big competition, IBC 32 our basketball comes to the greatest success in the IBC competition. In a long and great campaign, our basketball players come to the cecon place and won silver medal.
In the fight for gold, the Banija team was convincingly better and won 79-67. It is the first grand final for our basketball players and the pressure was great upon them. In that game, we didn't offer the best resistance to the world's best basketball team.
Banija managed to defend the title.

MEN'S BRONZE MEDAL AT THE OLYMPICS

After that competition, another great result of our basketball followed.
At the XV Olympic Games, our men's team won a bronze medal. In the semifinals, we were defeated by the hosts of the games Electrum with 74-77. After that defeat, we didn't lose spirit, but our players in the fight for the bronze medal beat the Ioudaia team 79-73. Two difficult and very even games were behind our basketball players in fight for medals, but they managed to climb on the podium.
The women's team failed to get to the medal fight, they were stopped in the round of 16.

IBC 33

Due to the political situation in the country, our basketball association did not submit to participate in this competition. Unfortunately we missed one competition.

INTERNATIONAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 34

Our team is classified in group B. At first glance, we must say that the group is difficult. There is one of the top 10 teams in the group and that is Hannasea. Hannasea has a great team and they will surely look towards the very top and fight for a medal. Apart from them, the New Anglican team is with us. We played against them twice and both times we lost in the IBC31 cycle.
Magnecia could be a team that would create problems, but Raspotochje did not present itself in a bad light at the Olympic Games. The Ranoria team is our group and they will be tough as well.

Group B
(29) Valentine Z @ Poseidon Arena, Melarit
(5) Hannasea @ Basketball Coloseum, Katanija
(UR) Raspotochje @ Sportski Centar, Katanija
(UR) Kyzhurkistan @ Sportski Centar, Katanija

PLAYERS AND STUFF
DANIJEL MATKOVIĆ - 28 year old, KK Torpedo Melarit,PG position-playmaker, one of the best player on that postion in League, three time champion of the first League, twicw with Katanaija Zmajevi, once and actual with Torpedo Melarit.
Fantastic overview of the game, fast transition of the ball and an extraordinarily great shot for 3 points.the most beautiful and handsome in the team, in his free time he is also a model. We recorded several commercials and the most popular singer hired him to appear in the video.
Two years ago he signed a contract with KK (BC) Torpedo Melarit. He also won the championship with that club and is the current champion with Torpedo Melarit.
His calendar for the humanitarian action "Let's Save the Lost Dogs and Cats" on which he is naked was sold in an incredible 20 million copies.

STJEPAN MARKOVIĆ - 27 year old, Club Bisuta Nuova, position SG the best shooter and the best scorer in the league with an outstanding performance from the game. In addition, it has the most enrolled double-double. He plays the position of a shooter and is very fast.Named the league's Most Valuable Player. His services are also sought outside of DR Srednjaci, and the question is whether he will stay at his club this season, considering that offers are coming from all sides. This is his chance to show himself on the global stage.

HANA BELULOVIĆ - 24 year old, ŽKK Čelik Raduč,playes SF position, only women in fisrt team of Srednjaci. She is amazing basketball player and with Club Čelik Raduč she won national championships. She is really tall for this position but her speed and technique are amazing.

DAVOR PARADINOVIĆ Captain- 28 year old, playes PF position ,CLUB Torpedo Melarit, two years ago he was the best player in the league and the South Voytana region. Most of his career has triple-double and triple-triple effects.
He was also called the flying King of Basketball in the media. Great on and off the floor, he leads this team like a captain. He is a favorite among athletes across the DR Srednjaci. He also graduated from the Faculty of Law and plans to pursue a doctorate at the Faculty of" International Relations and Diplomacy".

NIKOLA TOMLJANOVIĆ- 25 year old, Center, Club Katanija Zmajevi,The greatest talent of basketball in DR Srednjaci. Incredibly agile for its 217 CM and 120 kg, agile. He has an extremely high reflection in the jump from a place of as much as 28 cm on average, which gives him an even greater advantage over opponents under the basket.
Another talented player who could go to far stronger clubs outside Srednjaci. His performance of 27.6 points per game is amazing. No center in the league was close to that average. The best jumper in the league with 31.1 rebounds and 9.8 assists. A player who is sometimes headstrong and sometimes on defense loses his temper. Last season he had 3 technical errors which is a lot for one player.

Kriegiersien National Basketball team

For a nation where nudity is mandatory, clothes are always a nice surprise. Kriegiersien comes as always in their black Olympic rags.. jerseys.
Image

This is a combined team of men and women and with a pony (Ivory Fire) and Orcs (Rogbut, Bugezog, Murbol) in the team, the rest of the squad is human.

After arousing matches in IBC 30 and 31 the following championships became a disaster. Missing IBC 32, after the team had lost the regional qualifiers against Bigtopia and Zombiestan, only to realize too late that both teams didn't take part at the IBC and they could haven taken the place, a team of no-names were send to IBC 33, while the Top Players prepared for the Olympics. They ended with only 3 wins in the first group stage at the IBC.

The team dropped hard in the ranking, but at least at the Olympics the men's team won silver behind Electrum in the final.

Gold medal final
Kriegiersien (KGS) 72–96 Electrum (ETM)

Now finally the Olympic teams returned to the IBC, replaced with some new names.

After the implosion of the Ko-orenite Basketball League, the sport (barely) survived on small courts in big cities. Twelve clubs have emerged in a new national league, representing three urban areas. The Capital Cities (Maethoru, Mayara, Gehrenna, Senoren), Aminey (Lunay, Ouleux, Couziers/Linieux, Étouille), and Finisterre (Ferrovente, Miradela, Montelo, Serramonte). Should the league be a success (which, as proposed, doesn't contain three separate conferences but dumps all teams in one table), there are plans to restructure and expand the league. Aided by half the IBC 17 and 20 rosters, Ko-oren is back for a slow ascent up the ranks again.

While they might not be underdogs in literally every game, the rankings pretend like this team has a lot more individual skill than it actually has. The three - by far - most talented players are Canton, Melanson, and Sarmazenindhen, and unfortunately all of them are small forwards. That means you might occasionally see them pop up at other positions, taking over PF or SG, while all three try to have the most time on the court. Our results depend on them linking up despite relying on roughly the same skills. Gunausinthen (PG) is arguably the 4th best player. The Centre position is quite weak, so Bernard (or Runeldherinthen, if a SF plays PF) may take over in some cases. This team will probably lose most rebound battles (but not necessarily by a lot), so it relies on getting the job done before it gets to that - blocks, steals on defence, well-executed plays and accuracy on the first FG attempt per play on offence.

Anders Martikainen - Drafted only a year after Jakob Kaiser, Martikainen is Kaiser's sidekick, destroying defenses with his agility and three-level scoring ability. He is also recognized as the league's best shooter, and is predicted to be considered the BEST shooter of all time once he hangs up the laces. Martikainen has won an MIP and an ROTY award. Martikainen stands at 6'4" and weighs 96 kg.

Aron Andersson - Andersson has always been recognized as one of Tjorl's best players, yet he never had a supporting cast strong enough to contend for the TBA Championship. Excellent at the mid-range, the small forward cannot be left open at any time, or else it is a guaranteed field goal. Andersson is also considered as the lineups best perimeter defender. Andersson stands at 6'9" and weighs 114 kg.

Patrick Teufel - An excellent rebounder, Teufel seems to grab every miss there is. Drafted by the Osterstad Crushers in 2009, he spent 5 years not competing in the playoffs until he was traded to the Konunsfjord Royals, in which he shone brilliantly, leading them to a surprise Championship win in 2016-17. Teufel plays aggressively, and does not back down against who knows how many defenders, thus unofficially gaining the role of enforcer in the team. Teufel stands at 6'11" and weighs 118 kg.

Lorenz Sander - The national squad's tallest player and defensive stalwart, Sander has proven time and time again that defense does win championships, winning with the Afoln Rangers in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Even if his offensive production does not match his defense, Sander has still shown his class in clutch situations, successfully stopping lethal scorers in the final seconds. Sander stands at 7'2" and weighs 122 kg. He has won DPOY twice in his career.

Robert Albertson - Despite the point guard's first-class playmaking ability, he has only made the playoffs a shocking 3 times in his career. As such, Albertson is currently pursuing a trade from the Rasand Beasts. Although he has rarely played in the playoffs, Albertson has provided many iconic moments for the Beasts franchise, including a special game-winner on Lorenz Sander. Albertson stands at 6'2" and weighs 84 kg.

Denis Bachmaier - A respected veteran, Bachmaier has been with the Blades and the national team through thick and thin. Bachmaier was Tjorl's starting shooting guard at the Oatland Basketball Championship, later achieving second place with the squad. He is known for his smart play calling and floor reading, leading to wide open shots. Bachmaier stands at 6'5" and weighs 99 kg.

Gunnar Lewerenz - Lorenz Sander's partner in the frontcourt, Lewerenz is a constant highlight reel, providing the audience with spectacular dunks and acrobatic finishes. He was the Afoln Rangers' star in their dominant championship run in the 2015-16 season. However, a leg injury would sideline him for most of the 2016-17 season, opening the door for the Konunsfjord Royals. While it took Lewerenz quite some time to return to his old form during his recovery, he has provided crucial production for the Rangers in the following seasons. Lewerenz stands at 6'8" and weighs 108 kg.

Samuel Hanssen - No other player embodies the spirit of the Tjorlish capital's basketball team better than Hanssen. A gritty, aggressive, and fierce player, Hanssen is extremely passionate for the game and the team, and is not afraid of any challenges. Hanssen is known for his defense and extreme stamina. Hanssen stands at 6'9" and weighs 115 kg.

Ralf Granerson - Granerson is the lifeline of the Harvik Hunters franchise, pulling them through battle after battle, thanks to his remarkable ability in the post and in the elbow. He is considered to be the Hunters' best player since Mikael Arnesen, who led the Hunters to the Finals twice in the 2000s. Granerson is typically reserved and quiet, and prefers to not speak a lot towards the media. Granerson stands at 7" and weighs 120 kg.

Mats Nystrom - Nystrom is known for his defense than his offense. He has won the steals title twice already in his four-year career so far. Nystrom is quite quick, agile, and has a vertical leap of around 40 to 45 inches. His defensive ability and athleticism has helped the Volanger Valkyries time and time again, including an amazing second-round victory over the Northern Conference's second seed Seidelberg Sparrows, where they won in seven heart-stopping games. Nystrom stands at 6'3" and weighs 94 kg.

Tim Kristoffersen - Czujon's basketball prodigy Mats Nystrom is currently living the dream: being drafted first overall in 2020, immediately helping the Colonels to two straight playoff appearances, and now being called up to the national squad at only 20 years of age. Nystrom is known for his shooting and intercepting ability. Kristoffersen stands at 6'8" and weighs 110 kg.

HISTORY: IBC Debut
IBO RANK: Unranked

The Tjorlish sporting community celebrates as Tjorl announces its participation in IBC 34. This is the first time the national team will be competing against the world's best. Head Coach Vinzenz Hansson said "Yeah, we're elated to be here. We've been practicing here at training camp for quite some time now, and hopefully we aren't going to be completely outmatched. The Orcas were drawn into Group C, along with Valanora, Græntfjall, Lisander, Gatchingerrak Union, Kriegiersien, United Adaikes, Draystein, Deblar, and Atheara. Superb team captain Jakob Kaiser will be leading the national team for the first time. He said "Yeah, quite a busy month for us, we have IBC 34 and the IUBC tournament". Kaiser has recently led the Tjusto Troopers to the 2021-22 TBA Championship, alongside partner-in-crime Anders Martikainen. The fast-paced and entertaining Orcas will be looking to make a statement at their IBC debut.

Kannap | IBC 34

IBC Newcomers
The Kannapian National Basketball Team has been chartered by the Kannapian Sports Federation and comprises athletes from Kannap's top five domestic basketball teams. Coach Erik Bromley, eight time Kannapian Basketball League Champion (Sorenson Sirens 1994, 1996, 1997; Peladia Pirates 1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007) and coach of the Peladia Pirates since 2011, proposed the creation of the team and participation in IBC 34 to David Niven, Director of the Kannapian Basketball Federation. Niven then brought the proposal before the Kannapian Sports Federation executive committee, who voted 31-13 in favor of Kannapian participation in the event.

Erik Bromley was appointed head coach of this new national team and quickly worked to recruit athletes from Kannap's top domestic basketball teams, with support of the Kannapian Sports Federation along the way. The team has spent months getting to know each other better and practicing together. Bromley and his team all feel like they're ready for this event regardless of how they perform. They have the support and pride of the Kannapian people on their backs and their morale is high.

Kannap has found themselves entered into Group E, along with fellow unranked teams from StravaRoos Barrier Islands and Schima Bas. The athletes and their coach don't underestimate this group, which has some strong and well-ranked teams such as the teams from TJUN-ia, Drawkland, and Equestria. The Kannapian National Basketball Team faces a challenge ahead of itself, a challenge they intend to take head-on and excel as best as they can against the odds.

Roster
Starting Lineup
Samuel Bromley - Power Forward - 26 years old - 6'7" - he/him - Jersey #12
>>>Samuel began his professional career at the age of 17, quickly being picked up by the Sorenson Sirens. His first few seasons were largely uneventful but he helped bring his team to victory in the Kannapian Basketball League Championships in 2017, 2018, and 2020. The team finished as runner-ups in 2019 and 2021. The Sorenson Sirens have performed as one of the best two teams in the league in the last five seasons. Samuel is looking to excel on the court on the international level next. He's the son of the head coach of the national team and is the only athlete on the team that wasn't selected by the coaching staff but the director of the Kannapian Basketball Federation, who refused to approve a national team without Samuel on it.

Felix Holloway - Center - 25 years old - 6'9" - he/him - Jersey #21
>>>Felix began his professional career at the age of 15, having excelled far beyond the playing level of his classmates in school. He's the youngest player to have entered the Kannapian Basketball League. He was originally signed on to the Port Stephen Salamanders and played four seasons with them, seeing the team finish 7th in the rankings in their best season. He was then signed on to the Sorenson Sirens and helped bring the team to victory alongside teammate Samuel Bromley in 2017, 2018, and 2019. He's always looking to prove his worth on the court and it shows in every game he plays.

Natasha Willesbarrie - Small Forward - 31 years old - 6'3" - she/her - Jersey #33
>>>Natasha is the only woman in the starting lineup and is the oldest player on the team. She found a late start to her professional basketball career, unlike the rest of the players on the team. She started playing basketball for her university team after the university's coach saw her playing with friends on the court when the gym was open to students. The coach immediately saw that Natasha had skill and talent in the sport and was surprised to learn that Natasha had never played basketball on a school team before. Upon finishing her program of study, Natasha was picked up by the Peladia Pirates at 22 years old. She has consistently been one of the best players on the team and has helped lead the Pirates to victory in the Kannapian National Basketball League in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2021. The team finished 2nd in the league in 2017 and 2018 and 3rd in the league in 2020. She's looking to prove herself on the court as the oldest player on the team and as the only woman on the starting team, seeking to show her worth among a sport still dominated by male players in Kannap.

Archie Scholar - Point Guard - 24 years old - 5'11" - he/him - Jersey #15
>>>At just 5'11", Archie is the shortest player on the team but he makes up for it with his positive energy and endurance. Archie didn't start playing basketball until his first year of university - like his teammate Natasha - and had instead been a cross country runner before university. He finished 7th in the 2015 Peladia Marathon - his best performance in distance running. He continues to run long distance in his personal life and runs marathons for competitive fun. He was signed onto the Montford Monsters at the age of 22, upon completing his program of study, and in his two seasons playing for the team has seen them finish 4th in the Kannapian national Basketball League both seasons. He's not the best player on the team or the best shooting guard in the league, but the coaching staff sees massive potential in his playing style.

Casper Caldwell - Shooting Guard - 19 years old - 6'6" - he/him - Jersey #8
>>>Folks back home are not quite sure why Casper Caldwell was chosen to play on the national team over some other choices the coaching staff could have picked, but the coaching staff seem confident in their decision to pick him for the team. He's the youngest player on the team and a new name on the court, having only played one season professionally for the Feldkirsh Falcons, one which saw him mostly on the bench as a member of the substitute team. However, the times he's been able to get onto the court, he's shown to be able to hold his own against some of his opponents who belong to their starting teams. It'll be interesting to see how he performs at the international level or if he ends up warming the bench like normal by the midpoint of the competition.

Substitute Team
Jasper Flaxmor - Power Forward - 28 years old - 6'7" - he/him - Jersey #25
Jaxon Smythe - Center - 27 years old - 6'9" - he/him - Jersey #22
Mack Mercy - Small Forward - 24 years old - 6'5" - they/them - Jersey #42
Daniella Valdera - Point Guard - 26 years old - 6'2" - she/her - Jersey #4
Victor Hellencia - Shooting Guard - 28 years old - 6'5" - he/him - Jersey #13

DROP IT DOWN!: One Last Ride As...THE TOP SEEDS?!

Postby TJUN-ia » Sat Feb 05, 2022 11:51 am

Image

Name: TJUN-ia
Trigram: TJU
Demonym: TJUN-ian/Jaguar
Nicknames: Jaguars/Hoops-Jags
Governing Body: Basketball Federation of TJUN-ia (BFT/BF-TJUN-ia) - VP of the IBC
Home Colours: Sky Blue with Orange Trim
Away Colours: Orange with White Trim
Third Colours: Black with Orange Trim

One Final Ride. That was the theme emitting from the Hoops-Jags of TJUN-ia immediately after claiming their 4th place in IBC33 two years ago. This team had just come off their best camping by far, ranked #2 and losing only thrice in all - twice to Hannasea, once to Quebec and Shingoryeo - as Banija claimed a 4th crown in a row to establish themselves as the true dynasty of this universe. Was it wrong to feel a bit...disappointed after all we did? We won so many games last time out to keep our #2 status, playing some of the best basketball we've ever seen from this team - but we didn't reach the final even as #2, and that most certainly stung the most out of any defeat we have ever faced as a team. This team, led by a brilliant Basketball mind in the form of Bao Zhou, knew they would have one final chance to try and do something for their country no matter what...but then that job got a whole lot more interesting very quickly.

The group format in place (10 teams, Top 4 + 4 best 5ths advance) is interesting enough, then came some news that would shake us to our very core. The Lion will not be here to defend their Kingdom - and that is fucking scary. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Banija aren't here and Nyowani Kitara are in their place. This means that not only has TJUN-ia got to enter the end of an era as #2...but also as the Top Ranked Team in the whole tournament. That is certainly a lot of pressure on one team's shoulders. WE hope we can do something with no Banija in tow - but if we can't reach the final now? Then we may never do...

Once again, the Unity Centre in Riverside is back and ready to host #2 Hoops-Jags. While the home side can expect more of the same in terms of crowd support, the pressure was mounting by some in the NAU to build a new arena in The Gardens of New Washington in order to help "return the sport to its natural homeland". While the Unity Centre is an icon of TJUN-ian basketball, especially after the upset over Valanora back a few editions ago, the days of this arena being the sole hosts of the national team is certainly numbered, with the expansion finally coming into effect in time for IBC35, after a delay was given to allow the old era of TJUN-ian Basketball to end in Riverside no matter what.

This will be Abanhfleft's twentieth time participating in the International Basketball Championships. It's The End of An Era 2: Electric Boogaloo. Jazz Higgs couldn't win a second IBC, but yet again there's a new generation of basketball players who want to do their country proud after 24 years of waiting. But will it actually happen this time? Or is it just yet more pain and suffering?

HOME STADIUM (The Fleftic Arena, Riuwiee)
Image
Presenting the Fleftic Arena, the largest indoor arena by seating capacity in the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft

Situated in the north of Abanhfleft's capital city of Riuwiee is the National Sports Park, a 140-hectare "special national designated area" in which a majority of Riuwiee's sporting facilities are located. Standing out among the stadia and gymnasia is the massive and imposing structure and flat roof of the Fleftic Arena, officially the largest indoor stadium in the whole of Abanhfleft with its official stated capacity of 100,786 seated spectators for indoor sports. The structure broke ground on September 26, 2009 as part of the capital city's reconstruction efforts following the aftermath of the Holy Catholic Revolution of 2008 which left nearly the entirety of Riuwiee devastated, and construction was completed over three years later in 2012. The Fleftic Arena is the official home arena of the Abanhfleft national basketball team and has played host to dozens of matches during the International Basketball Championships. Aside from that, the Riuwiee Presidents of the Fleftic Basketball Association occasionally uses the Fleftic Arena as its home stadium when it plays marquee match-ups against well-known teams from the league such as the Malabon Black Ops or the Markovsky Red Army, taking advantage of the arena's huge capacity when the capacity of their usual home stadium, the Sterling Arena, is deemed to be not enough for games of such popularity. Aside from that, the Fleftic Arena has also played host to at least four FBA All-Star Weekends since its inauguration and opening in 2012.

As for the stadium's location, Riuwiee is the capital city of Abanhfleft and is home to over 20 million people. The Fleftic people are very crazy and passionate about basketball, and even though their home side the Riuwiee Presidents has been disappointing in the FBA as of late, the fans still come out in droves to support and cheer for their team.

Two years after joining their first IBC, the United Adaikes sends their national team delegation once again. They will try to improve their record from the previous IBC, winning only 4 out of 10 games. However, that landed them fourth in their group and the second-best performance for an unranked nation. Currently, they are ranked 40th in the world.

Part 0 / Roster – Third Time's the Charm?

Image
Image

Just to recap, who are Gwen's Angels? For all intents and purposes, it is an unisex basketball team consisting of 15 Valentian players from all over the world. As the name suggests, they are all under the management of Chief Aviator Gwen Tracer Hepburn “Fate of Existence and the Omniverse” Ellen Trixie Caitlin Foxworthy Avril Verlene Eveline Celinda Sammy Doris T-Rev Oxton Arielle Lindall Leslie Vitesse Allison. The second season for the Valentians - the 33rd season - was certainly a thrilling ride as they saw themselves getting substantial scores and even victories against those that they considered to be very formidable opponents. The team concluded the 10 games with 5 wins and 5 losses, a 50% win rate that they have not seen before in IBC 32, which ended their 16 games with 5 wins and 11 losses. However, the start of the season has been going to be a rather new and exciting venture as Gwen slated that she is going away to other countries for NSSCRA 12 and as a result, would not be around to manage the team all by herself. "We are quite lucky that we arrived just in time for this season," Gwen commented to the media as she sat down around them, making sure not to knock anything over, "The aftermath of the interdimensional war we fought got us set back by 4 years - which we used time dilation - to fix and rebuild our nation. So that part is done, no worries on that. The only problem is that I am still going for NSSCRA 12 as mentioned, which would only mean one thing..." Joshua and Klarke, however, are still available as the team coach and medic respectively for the rest of the season.

Gwen continued on, "Of course, I have absolutely no problem with the Valentians and I love them! I would love one of them to manage the team for me, and if their schedules are free, I am sure they will do amazingly well! Still, I thought I would like to try something new, something unthought of for the Valentians until now. For the very first time in history of international (and interdimensional) sports for us, I am thinking of getting someone from another country in order to manage my team. In other words - we are hiring an external manager!"

The Valentians, of course, more or less knew about Gwen's plans at that moment; it was just a matter of time for Gwen as she made the announcement official for the IBC officials, as well as to the medias of the rest of the participating countries. "You heard it first from me this time! If you are a budding manager and you are very, very interested, please send me an application and we can definitely work something out! We can have an interview, describe the dynamics of my team, and many more other things. I along with the rest of the Valentians are also looking forward to working with you!" [OOC: Send me a TG or Discord DM if you would like to have a manager for my team. I'll RP them to the best of my abilities if I am provided adequate character knowledge about them.]

"Cheers!" Gwen ended off the announcement as she walked towards her team and wishing them luck. The team enthusiastically (though anxiously) send her off back to Valentine Z as she prepares for the final touches of NSSCRA 12, painting and readying up her car. "Don't worry, you guys will be fine! It's a rather exciting opportunity and experience as well, you know? Besides, if all else fails, I still have a contingency."

International Basketball Championship 34
Delaclava Phoenixes

General Information

About Delaclava: The United Republic of Delaclava is a massive democratic republic located in southeast Atlantian Oceania, and consisting of a large mainland with numerous nearby island provinces and overseas territories in the more remote corner of the region. Delaclava is particularly notable for education and scientific development, advancement of culture and music, active lifestyles which see citizens frequently outdoors in public parks and natural forest and mountain areas, and a well-established public transportation system which connects all the diverse major cities and regions of the mainland. Isolation policies have been lifted completely only in the past several years, so modern Delaclava has a larger emphasis on national and regional cultures rather than international and global influences. Citizens have a large degree of personal freedom and expression, but within the framework of traditional social values which reinforce the structures of family and community.

About the program: The Delaclav national team was traditionally a consistent yet unimpressive presence in the early editions of the IBC, recording top-eight finishes at IBC5, IBC7, and IBC9. The Phoenixes also hosted the 7th edition. After returning to international play and putting together respectable qualifying performances in IBC29 and IBC30, the Phoenixes exploded in IBC31, compiling a 12-3 record en route to a silver medal in front of the home crowd, vaulting into the upper echelon of international basketball at a ranking of #4. The Phoenixes have also won a silver and two bronzes in the last three Atlantian Oceania Basketball Championships.

About the team: Delaclav teams emphasize pushing the pace at all times - the fast break, ball movement on the perimeter and through the top of the paint, finding shots early in the clock, and a full-court press on defense. Players are expected to give their maximum effort at all times - if they need a break, they will get subbed out for a few minutes until they are ready to push again. Despite the inclination towards speed and urgency, the tactics are patient enough that a fast break will not start without having properly secured the ball.

When the three-point shooters are finding their stroke, this results in high-scoring affairs. Often, it instead means the Phoenixes have trouble with their accuracy from the field and fall behind early. Their strength therefore lies in continuing to push the pace and wear down the opposition so that they can find layups and easier shots in the transition as the game goes on. At its worst, the team will have a tendency to lose composure against superior opposition, such that entire games simply get away from them.

Delaclav teams are typically undersized, and have traditionally focused more on perimeter movement on offense, and a zone defense to mitigate mismatches at center and power forward. Even the smallest players on the team are physical defenders and enthusiastic rebounders, although this still presents a challenge against true big men. The Phoenixes have upgraded in recent years with the emergence of big men such as Đorđe Zubić and Omar Harris (more information below), so height disadvantages are becoming less pronounced, and the strategy has become more inclined to funneling the ball through Zubić, either at the top of the paint to redistribute, or down low for a quick finish.

Image @AllBanijaSportsMagazine With the basketball players labor strike having no end in sight, the Olympic Committee of Banija finally admits IBC 34 participation is 'impossible' as hosts draw groups for IBC 34. The OCB has come under heavy criticism, as Banija will no longer have the opportunity to defend their title.

Image
Image
Image
Image @OlympicCommitteeOfBanija We have done everything possible to reach an agreement with the BLPA(Banija Lions Players Association). Unfortunately, despite going down to the final moment, the Union has not moved in their stances for a deal. Rest assured, we will continue to work around the clock to reach a deal, and bring the team to IBC 35.

Image
Image
Image
Image @BLPA The time calls for a moment of reflection. It is an extreme disappointment, for both players and fans, that the Olympic Committee of Banija refuses to pave the path for the strongest national team possible. There's nothing we want to do more than hit the courts. But labor must stand together.

Image
Image
Image
Image @AllBanijaSportsMagazine CBA negotiations are broken between the two sides over a number of issues, but the biggest issues are are as follows. #1 Attempts by the OCB to restrict NT players to playing at home professionally rather than abroad, as is current practice. #2 Solidarity with the Lionesses over 'gross mismanagement' of women's basketball in the country. Ironically, money is not a huge issue, as the OCB has largely agreed to bonus increases as requested by the players.

Image
Image
Image
Image @AllBanijaSportsMagazine Also remember, the OCB's attempt to call in replacement players to a training camp backfired spectacularly, as 4-time world champion Head Coach Isaiah Lavaga refused, in his words, to "engage in strike-busting tactics", and resigned, taking his talents to the California City Lakers in Quebec. Combine that with BLPA threatening youth players with future lack of representation as well if they accept a senior NT call-up during a strike, the idea of replacement players is completely dead.

Image
Image
Image
Image @AllBanijaSportsMagazine The question remain. How long will this strike go on? When is the next time the Lions will suit up? What will it take to bring BLPA and OCB officials to an agreement?

DRAWKLAND NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM (NET CORPS)

CHAMPIONS, International Basketball Championships 25
CHAMPIONS, International Basketball Championships 28

Name: Net Corps
Colors: Black with Crimson trim
Denonyms: Drawkian or Drawkish, personal preference
SIXTEENTH IBC, Rank #12
Head Coach: Jaxon Madison

Basketball is an avid sport in Drawkland, with huge cheering crowds and near-constantly playing pep bands the norm. If you've never been to a basketball game in Drawkland, you may want to bring a pair of earplugs. Or two. You'll need them.

As you may notice, the Drawkian team is sorta massive, as far as height goes. This is perfectly natural for Drawkians, as the national height average is 7'5" (they're not related to humans evolutionarily besides the shape and proportions and such). They also may seem like they're "middle-aged," but that's wrong. In fact, most professional Drawkian athletes don't retire until around the age of 50, since the average lifespan is around 150.

After having their best group stage in their history in IBC 24, the Net Corps went on to get annihilated in the Round of 16 for the fifth straight time (once by Royal Kingdom of Quebec, once by Vangaziland, once Abaja, once by Ceni, and now once by Banija). Finally, they decided they weren't going to take no for an answer. A decade of playoff disappointment took a heel-turn as the Corps made an unprecedented run to the championship game. Drawkland won the game in convincing fashion to Royal Kingdom of Quebec, and finally claimed the title of IBC Champions.

While they lost in the semifinals of IBC 26 to the team they defeated in the previous semifinals, Newmanistan, they still had the skill to make a deep playoff run. And that they did, by making it to the finals of IBC 27 against Vangaziland. Unfortunately, Vangaziland was the outright better squad and took the series in two straight games. The Net Corps was far from out of the mix, though. Despite the short format and taking a loss in the group stage, Drawkland stormed through the IBC 28 playoffs and defeated Vangaziland by 30 points in the final to capture their second title. Drawkland hoped to go back-to-back with IBC 29, but fell short in overtime to Banija in the semifinals.

The IBC 30 campaign featured a first for the Net Corps ... a quarterfinal loss. This kicked off a new era in Net Corps history, one of floundering in the playoffs. In IBC 31, Drawkland went 2-2 in the second group stage, and had to settle for a "13th place win" against Quebec in the consolation playoffs. IBC 32 was yet another quarterfinal loss, this one against Valanora. Finally, in IBC 33, the Corps did something they hadn't done since their first tournament in IBC 19 ... miss the playoffs entirely. With that, longtime coach Cody Morgan and his staff was shown the door, and the aging Net Corps was collectively given the boot.

Original, DISC was going to hire a new coach and assemble a new squad from scratch. Then, some "genius" came up with a "better" idea ...

Ranoria Returns To International Basketball Action With Revamped Roster - Preview For Krauts IBC 34 Season

1: Ranoria Finishes Top 3 In Their Group And Cruises Into The Playoffs:

Ranoria finished 7-9 in IBC 32, their debut and the last time the national team was seen on the court, on the back of a few monster performances from our star in Reiner Anneliese. There's been a good deal of overhaul on this roster though with four years between the last two entrances for the team, and that makes it difficult to gauge the quality of this roster. Between the shooting of Ophelia Carter and Daniele Eveline, the team may be at the least better suited for the "defense is for nerds" mentality they took on late in IBC 32.

Some may call it a reach to think this team will go from a losing record to suddenly challenging the best in the world, but we'd absolutely take the over on the wins column for our Krauts.

2: Bertolt Hali Will Come Up Clutch At Some Point:

"Wow now, hold up! He's the worst player on the team!" That's what you're thinking, but Hali is the voice of this team's mentality and approach to the game, and at some point, if you want people to believe in what you preach, you have to practice it. If Hali doesn't throw down a game winner at some point, we here at RSSN will be shocked.

3: Julian Viola and Daniele Eveline Will Flash All-Star Potential:

The two youngsters are slated to play in the QBL and QWBL, respectively, and were the top prospects to come out of Ranorian colleges as of late. Viola is a defensive stalwart with all the athletic tools to develop into a well-rounded threat in every phase of the game.

Eveline is an excellent long-range shooter who's just 19 years old and showed an exponential growth curve in her college days. She's only getting better, and being thrown into the fire against the best competition the world can offer should only offer a catalyst to that improvement.

We don't expect these two to be dominant, not yet, but they will show why they're seen as such hot commodities as prospects, and that's all you can hope for from players this young.

Reiner Anneliese Has An Opportunity To Show He's One of The Best In The World: Can Capitalize?

We know, we know, this isn't exactly a prediction.

This will only be the third time Anneliese has played in international competition. His debut came in NSCAA 12 as part of a 10-20 Cold Hill team that was run over in the first round of their conference tournament, and the second came as the front man of these very Krauts in their debut IBC campaign. He's proven to be a competitor and had three games of over 40 points in IBC 32. Fortunately, he's still in his prime.

Anneliese, 28, likely has a few years yet in him of peak production. And while he's not the kind of guy to ever be called the best in the world, he's may be talented enough to be in that conversation - this slate of games will be the perfect test for that theory.

Defense Is For Nerds, Book Two: The Reckoning
The original defense is for nerds
RANPAC Arena
One Week Before Ranoria's IBC Opener, Julian Viola, Daniele Eveline, and Reiner Anneliese are playing a quick game of 21

Eveline got the rebound out of sheer luck - with two much larger men playing against her, she was physically outmatched on that front, and immedietely pulled up for a three pointer. It was open, or so it seemed, but Julian Viola came streaking over and knocked the ball away just as it left her hand.

He flashed his fellow soon-to-be-rookie a grin, "Gotta be quicker than that."

"What exactly do you think you're doing?" Reiner Anneliese caught the ball when Viola passed it back in, but tucked it under a shoulder rather than checking.

"Uh, playing basketball?" Viola laughed, offering just a confused smile in return.

"Not our kind of basketball," Anneliese sighed, tossing the ball into the stands - he was winning by 10 anyway. "Listen, around these parts, we've come to the appifiny that playing hard defense almost always results in less offensive production, and less offense means less scoring, and do you know what less scoring means?"

Julian Viola's mouth was just slightly agape. There was no way the best player on this team - their captain and superstar - had just said that.

Daniele, while re-adjusting her ponytail, sighed, "Less winning?"

"Precisely. So from now on, I need you to realize that defense is for nerds." He raised a hand in a 'stop' gesture, "We don't do that here."

"But Reiner," Julian countered, "I'm a defensive guy, I pri-"

"A terrible decision, really." Reiner deadpanned him, "If you can't score, we find someone else who can. That simple. Get hip, rook-rook."

Roster

Starters

G #3 Duncan Muir, 6'2, 27 - is a slasher, has great awareness on the court, but can be outmuscled on defense
G #8 Clement Villeneuve, 6'5, 26 - excellent catch-and-shoot guy, has a knack for getting open, driving has improved, but still needs to work on his defense
G #12 Reggie LaPointe, 6'5, 32 - another gunner on this team, LaPointe also overpowers smaller guards and can handle himself on D against 3s or small 4s
F #25 Philip Meyer, 6'8, 26 - absolute grinder down below, cleans up around the net, great rebounder on offense and defense
F #27 Alain Colbert, 6'8, 32 - Colbert is a classic "stretch 4" with a good jumper, long arms harass both bigger and smaller players on defense (temporarily injured until Second Peenandian game, sub in Greg Lindsey

Reserves
G #14 Julian Thornton, 6'4, 22 - bombs away from 3 for this sharpshooter, not much of a defender, but more down to technique than lack of ability
G #35 Simon Moran, 6'5, 25 - came in as 3-and-D kind of guy, but has blossomed into strong all-around player, hard-nosed worker
G #17 Rex McKinney, 6'6, 30 - you might think he's a bit oversized for a guard, but he's slender and quick, annoying on defense, especially against smaller player
G #10 Félix Dedeaux, 6'3, 23 - Quebecois youngster is a pure point guard, Roberts says he's got the highest basketball IQ of anybody on the team, not an offensive threat right now, but a wizard with the ball
F #32 Greg Lindsey, 6'7, 22 - high-flying player reminds many of former Lions star Kelvin Braxton, very athletic, great rebounder, slasher, pesky on D, not much of a jump shot
F #22 Eli Rose, 6'9, 25 - slender Rose is somewhat of a point-forward type, pass-first guy who is excellent at finding the open man, can be dangerous on pick-and-pop
C #48 Danny Cohen, 6'11, 24 - silky-smooth jumper for a big guy, strong on defense, will mainly play if opposing team heavily features a big guy or as goalie in pressing situations

Playing Style

The Lions continue their small ball lineup, with no player in the starting lineup and only two players on the entire team taller than 6'8. They want to spread the floor and force opponents to switch on defense to either create bad matchups for driving past taller, slower players, or shooting 3s over smaller defenders. They run whenever possible, and try to use their superior pace and stamina to wear out opposing defenses. They can drive, but their true strength is outside shooting. On defense, it starts with a 1-2-1-1 3/4 to full-court zone press that attempts to wear down opposing offenses, force them to burn the shot clock before setting up their offense, and to create turnovers. If the press fails, they typically fall back into a 3-2 matchup zone as the basic defense. However, the defense typically changes several times during the game, with the Lions showing a 2-3 against inside teams, a 1-3-1 if they want to trap and cause havoc, a triangle-and-two with LaPointe and Colbert glued to the two best players, a box-and-one with Duncan Muir in the terrier role chasing all over the court, or even a man-to-man if the situation calls for it. They also substitute frequently to maintain the pace of play and adapt their defense to the personnel they have and the opponents' personnel. It's a smart and athletic team, if not a particularly big one.

Where is the Money?

Pemecutan Puri - Basketball is undoubtedly one of the most popular sports in the country. The sport is managed and supervise by Pemecutan Basketball Association (Pemecutan Malay: Asosiasi Bola Basket Pemecutan). Throughout the history until today, the association have had created several domestic competition in order to give the local clubs a place to show and upgrade their skills. Their latest league system is the 3-tier national leagues. But it seems that the same situation that makes the previous system being dismissed, arise again.

Although being one of the most popular sports in the country, but the clubs are losing money repeteadly. The reason behind this is the income from sponsor and gate revenue are far smaller than the expenses.
Sponsors. That is one thing that is quite hard to get. Sometimes we're playing the matches in the competition without any sponsor support. We don't really understand why the sponsor are not that generous to us.

- Putu Alit Darma
Manager of Balun Basketball Club

Some critics says that basketball club tend to headquartered not in a big or major cities which makes it not very attracted to sponsor. In the past 3 seasons, Balun become one of the major club in the league. Despite that accomplishments, the club haven't secure any sponsor for the next season while the city government give smaller fund because they're more support the city's football club, Pesebal Balun.

Interviewed in different place, Oka Satya Prabawa, PNA spokesperson stated that the association's plan for the next season is to shrink the size of the league. And having the current clubs merge each other.
We've seen the same plan is done by the volleyball domestic league. We're aiming to have the same amount of clubs. Around 20 clubs. And the competition will only be held in 4 places to reduce the expense for clubs travel.

- Oka Satya Prabawa

The plan is still an initiation and needs approval from the members club to be run. The association hope that the plan can be applied in two years. This will be another major change in the basketball domestic league of Pemecutan.

Stars withdraw from IBC
Trask: Hoops team 'is not in disarray'

From Staff Reports -- Incorporated Basketball Federation chairwoman and CEO Lynn Trask shot down reports that the Sarzonian national basketball team was in shambles after the IBF withdrew Sarzonia from the 34th International Basketball Championships.

"This team is not in disarray," Trask said. "We raised objections to the organisation of the 32nd edition and the IBC Council did not take those objections into account. We felt naming Chromatika as a co-host so soon after they were chosen as the sole host of the tournament established a negative precedent. We feel as though the IBC completely disregarded our input.

"This decision had nothing to do with the coaching search and the outcome of that. We felt very comfortable with Joy Knight going in as our full-time, permanent manager. This has to do with following an organisational format we objected to previously and were unable to process our withdrawal from in time." Trask also denied reports that four-time defending champion Banija withdrawing from the current IBC played a role in Sarzonia's withdrawal.

Players from the Stars expressed emotions from frustration to anger over the decision to not send a team to IBC 34, with shooting guard Mike West the most outspoken of the players.

"This is an asinine decision on the part of Lynn Trask and the Board of Governors," he said in a press conference. "This decision was capricious, it was immature, it was wrong-headed, and it's a slap in the face of every player on this team."

Trask declined to comment on West's comments for the record other than to say "they will be addressed with the player." Reports circulated that Trask and West engaged in a shouting match, but The Daily Mail was unable to obtain confirmation.

Centre Terry Rutledge said he and the rest of the team were "disappointed, upset, angry" over the decision to not send a team to IBF 34, but expressed the hope the team would be back in IBF 35 "in some form."

"Some of us are likely to retire without Coach Manningham and without playing in IBF 35," he said. "You're going to see a very different Sarzonia team take the court in IBF 35, that's for sure."

Trask described the debate among the IBF Board of Governors that led to Sarzonia's withdrawal as "spirited, and yes, heated," but the Board voted 7-5 to withdraw the team. She declined to say what her vote would have been had the votes been level. She admitted she empathised with West and his anger about the team's participation in IBC 34 being taken out of their hands.

"I understand the frustration and the anger," Trask said. "The decision was one we could not in good conscience allow our team to compete. It's a decision we didn't make lightly, and that was reflected in how close the voting was."

NOTE: Trolleborg became the third nation to withdraw from the IBC after both Banija and Sarzonia withdrew.
